Brody: Hey, John. Henderson just told me I'm supposed to redo all my case summaries?
John: For the last 6 months.
Brody: You want to tell me why I'm doing this?
John: The records aren't complete.
Brody: That's bull. We both know why you're doing this. It's Natalie and me. You're obsessed with punishing us.
John: I am?
Brody: You know it's true. Why else would you vouch for Marty to get out of St. Ann's?
John: She's trying to start her life over.
Brody: After she tried to steal Liam out of the hospital.
John: I was there. That's in the past.
Brody: Not for me. And not for Natalie. She tried to kidnap our son. As far as I'm concerned, Llanview isn't safe with that woman on the loose.
Starr: Hey, I'm on my way home. Can you tell Hope that-- what do you mean she's not-- where is she? No, her grandmother's not watching her. She's at the hosp—
Starr: Oh! Honey! What are you doing here? How did you get here?
Marty: I brought her.
John: Brody, weren't you in St. Ann's? You went a little crazy. Shot someone. Put Shane at risk. But the doctors helped you, didn't they? Let you out early. People looked out for you. They took you in. Became a cop. You did all right for yourself. But now Marty shouldn't have the same opportunity for redemption that you had? I think this discussion's over, Officer. I'd like those files on my desk in the morning.
Natalie: Hey, Liam. It's nappy time. Want a story? Looks like I left your book downstairs. Let's try Grandma's paper. Want it? Let's take a look. See if there's anything good here. Will you stop taking your pacifier out? Here. There you go. There you go. Yeah. Nope. Nothing good. Oh, honey. Can't tell you how many nights I prayed John was gonna be your daddy, but... honestly, I don't know that I feel that way anymore.
Téa: John. Why haven't you arrested anyone for shooting Todd?
John: I don't have what I need to make an arrest.
Téa: Does that mean you have a suspect?
[Knocking on door]
Dani: Tomás? Uncle Tomás?
[Knocking on door]
Dani: Hi. I was just wondering if you were hungry. I could make you something.
Tomás: No, I'm fine, Sobrina. You know, I should be taking care of you.
Dani: Oh, no, it's okay. Kind of have to stay busy.
Dani: I tried that. I just keep thinking about Dad. You sure you don't want something to eat?
Tomás: Why don't you come in? I have something I want to show you.
Charlie: I have no excuse. I don't even know if I can explain what happened, but... it's just that at the church... when I found out that Rex was not my son...that hit me. Like losing Jared all over again. I could feel the floor just falling out from under me.
Blair: This is serious. How could you make fun of somebody who has asthma? He could die if he doesn't have this.
Jack: Yeah, but he's not dead, is he?
Gigi: Oh, my God! Shane, no! Shane, no!
Shane: Stop! I mean it. Why are you here? I don't want you here.
Rex: We got your note. We were wondering where you went.
Shane: Here. I thought it'd be colder. It's actually a nice day.
Gigi: Shane, be careful. Please.
Gigi: Please be careful.
Rex: We're not moving, and neither are you. Okay? Just stay put.
Shane: I know what I'm doing.
Rex: We know what happened, Shane.
Shane: No, you don't.
Rex: Jack Manning and his little friends have been torturing you, okay, but we're gonna make that stop, okay? It's gonna stop.
Shane: You can't change anything. Everyone saw me. I can't go back.
Rex: You don't have to. You can transfer to another school.
Shane: It's online. People would find out. It wouldn't solve anything. This will. It's the only way.
Gigi: Shane! No! No!
Blair: You better shut that smart mouth of yours. You think this is funny? Do you? Answer me, Jack. Do you think it's funny?
Jack: You just told me to shut up.
Blair: Oh, God, I can't believe that you would go after somebody who's never done anything to you. Shane is a sweet boy.
Jack: Mom, he's a dweeb. He practically begged for it.
Blair: Shane wanted to be called names? Have you steal money and blame him for it? He asked to be humiliated?
Jack: Mom, there's two kinds of people in the world-- winners and losers. Shane is a loser.
Blair: You--I cannot believe it. You sound just like your father.
Starr: Marty, how did-- what--
Marty: I was released from St. Ann's last week. I went by La Boulaie to see the two of you, and oh, my gosh, she's gotten so big.
Starr: I know.
Marty: I just want you to know that any time you need a sitter, I'm available. I love spending time with her. Just love it. And I know you're probably busy with your new boyfriend.
Starr: I've been really busy with my family. My dad was shot.
Marty: Oh. Yes, that's right. I read about that, you see. He's still in a coma, right?
Marty: Your dad sure knows how to make enemies.
John: I have leads I'm following up on. Nothing solid.
Téa: I think if you wanted the guy, you'd have him.
John: You don't think I want to catch the shooter?
Téa: I think you'd consider Llanview better off without Todd, so maybe you don't care if--
John: You know me better than that.
Téa: You're right. I do. Which is why I don't understand the lack of progress on my husband's case, John.
Téa: No, thank you.
John: How long were you and your brother out of touch?
Téa: Tomás? Years. I don't know.
John: So if we're being honest... you don't really know him that well at all, do you?
Dani: You did this?
Tomás: That's your mom and your grandfather.
Dani: He looks younger here than in the pictures I've seen. You must've been a kid when you drew this.
Tomás: No. I did it a few years ago, from memory.
Dani: Wow. That's amazing.
Tomás: Wanted to carry them with me.
Dani: You missed them?
Tomás: Yeah. Every day. I want you to have it.
Dani: No. No. I can't have this.
Tomás: I don't need it anymore. I'm here with family now.
Dani: Thank you. So what else do you have in that envelope?
Natalie: Finally you're calming down.
Brody: Your ex-fiancé is a jerk.
Natalie: Shh. I almost got Liam down for the nap.
Brody: Oh. I'm sorry. Hey, little buddy. Sorry. Looks like we lucked out.
Natalie: Yeah, well, if he got noisy again, I was gonna make you read to him for the next half-hour.
Brody: That sounds better than what I have to do.
Natalie: So I'll bite. Why is John a jerk?
Brody: He wants 6 months' worth of case summaries on his desk by the morning. I'll be lucky if I can get through half that.
Natalie: Hmm. And I'm sure it's just him doing his job.
Brody: We got into it a little bit about Marty.
Natalie: About how he's the reason she's back out on the street? If it makes you feel any better, we had it out, too.
Brody: Yeah? I'm guessing that didn't go too well.
John: We're done. You said what you had to say. Get out.
Natalie: No, it didn't.
Charlie: I almost took a drink. I went to Rodi's. I ordered a drink. But I left it on the bar. And I walked out... and I started driving. And somehow I ended up here. Maybe it's because Echo is Rex's mother, Shane's grandmother, and I needed that connection. Maybe it was because Clint had made fools out of both of us. I don't know. All I know is that... I came here and...
Viki: Charlie, that was weeks ago. Weeks ago. Clearly it's still going on.
John: You know about this?
Téa: What about it?
John: It's quite a coincidence, don't you think? Your brother finding this in a flea market in Paris?
Téa: What are you thinking, John--that Tomás had some kind of vendetta against Todd?
John: I'm thinking Todd didn't trust him.
Téa: Because Tomás had looked online, found some things about Todd, and wasn't exactly thrilled about the fact that we were married.
John: Blair said they fought.
Téa: They had an argument.
John: Sounded serious.
Téa: Why are you wasting your time? Huh? Tomás is a painter and a musician. You can't possibly think he had anything to do with Todd's shooting.
Tomás: There's nothing interesting in here.
Dani: Well, thank you so much for this drawing. It's so nice to have a piece of my family.
Tomás: That's how I felt.
Dani: I'm glad you're here for Mom.
Tomás: Me, too.
Dani: Especially with my dad in the hospital. You hate him, don't you?
Tomás: We just didn't hit it off.
Dani: Because of everything you read on the internet, right? It's okay. I mean, I did the same thing, when I found out he was my dad.
Tomás: That must have been upsetting.
Dani: Oh, it was. Seeing all that stuff...
Tomás: Did you believe it?
Dani: Well, everyone who knew him said it was true, so yeah, I did. But he's different now. People change.
Tomás: Yes, they do.
Jack: Yeah. Blame Dad. Because he's the one who taught me how this world works.
Blair: So you think that's how this goes here?
Jack: Look around.
Blair: I've fallen down on my job. You were such a cute, funny, little kid. "Look at Jack. Look at him acting out. Look at him. He's just a real player, isn't he?" We thought it was so cute. I should've known.
Jack: Seriously, Mom, don't make a big deal out of nothing.
Blair: It's not nothing, Jack. You're not just a little toddler here being bratty. You're almost a grown man who's become a bully.
Jack: Oh, come on!
Blair: No, you're gonna take responsibility for this. This garbage has got to stop before it goes too far, you hear me?
Rex: Shane, stop! Please! We'll find a better way!
Shane: Just forget it!
Gigi: We love you, Shane. We can't forget it. If we had known what people were writing on your MyFace...
Shane: How do you know what's on my page?
Rex: We looked.
Shane: When? What did you see? That's private!
Rex: Shane, you left us a note telling us good-bye. You didn't say where you were going. We wanted to find you. We really don't want you going anywhere except home with us.
Gigi: We're so sorry we didn't know what was happening. We're so sorry. Now we can fix it! We can make--we can stop it.
Shane: How? By coming to school and making a big deal about it? That'll just make things worse. Like I'm a big baby that needs his parents to protect him.
Rex: Okay, what would help, Shane?
Rex: There's gotta be something.
Shane: I tried! I tried being nice to people, but nobody cared. So then I tried ignoring it, but that didn't work, either. So I figured...I don't know.
Shane: Maybe this would work. Maybe when I'm just a big splat on the front steps-- maybe then they'll care!
Starr: So are you feeling better?
Marty: Oh, much better. I'm still seeing a doctor, of course. I've got a lot of work to do on dealing with loss.
Starr: That's hard for anyone.
Marty: Yeah, I just seem to take it harder.
Starr: I think you've had more than most.
Marty: You're a good person, Starr.
Starr: I don't know about that.
Marty: Well, I do. I do. You're the reason I had a breakthrough. When you brought Hope to see me, that's when I realized that Liam was John and Natalie's baby and not mine.
Starr: You mean Natalie and Brody's.
Brody: You want to talk about it? What happened with you and John?
Natalie: Not really. I never asked you what happened with Marty after I left.
Brody: I made it very clear that if she ever comes near you or Liam again, she'll answer to me.
Natalie: I'm guessing that didn't go over very well. What'd she say?
Marty: You're such a good father.
Marty: You seem so devoted to Liam and to Natalie.
Brody: Nothing worth repeating.
John: Do you know where... Tomás has been for, say, the last 10 years?
Téa: Traveling. Playing music. Painting. I'm not sure where he's been living.
John: He's had a lease in Paris for the last few years.
Téa: You're investigating my brother. You're running background on Tomás because he had an argument with Todd?
John: We found a euro at the gunman's perch.
Téa: Euros are the official currency of Europe, John. They're not that rare.
John: No, probably not. Unfortunately, Natalie couldn't get a print off it.
Téa: Natalie, huh?
John: Yeah. We're still working together here.
Téa: That's a start.
Charlie: It's my fault. I was gonna tell you all about it that very first time, and then when I got home, Jessica was gone. Tess had already taken over. John and Natalie were missing. I-- I just didn't feel that I could do that to you. Just throw my mistakes on the pile.
Viki: So you came back to Echo. Why do you always do that when you're in trouble? Why do you turn to the bottle or to Dorian or to Echo? You turn to anyone but me, and I'm your wife.
Charlie: I know. You're right. I just--I don't turn to you, and I know I should.
Viki: Then is it me? Do you not trust me?
Jack: Mom, we played a few pranks, that's it.
Blair: Jack, I saw the video. It was no prank.
Jack: Hey, I'm not the only one that posted it. There are tons of kids who tease Shane.
Blair: You were the ringleader, all right?
Jack: Mom, we're not criminals! I hope Dad can hear this. When he wakes up, he'll tell you to back off. He'd understand.
Blair: Oh, you're right, he would, because he knows what it's like to be a leader of a gang that attacks people who can't defend themselves. He knows how it feels to go too far.
Jack: What, you mean the Marty Saybrooke thing?
Blair: Thing? Your father and two other boys raped Marty.
Jack: She says. She was probably asking for it.
Shane: Don't tell me that those kids aren't worth it, and don't tell me that I'm better than all of them.
Gigi: It's true, Shane. We love you so much!
Shane: You're my parents. You have to say that.
Rex: You think we're the only ones?
Gigi: Yeah. There's Moe and Noelle and Viki and Charlie and--
Rex: Your grandma Echo.
Shane: Yeah. Adults love me. Great.
Gigi: Kids are cruel, Shane. They are. And I know that sucks.
Shane: Yeah. No kidding.
Gigi: And it feels like forever, right? Like it'll never end.
Shane: You have no idea.
Rex: Tell us.
Shane: I can't.
Rex: Yes, you can! Just talk to us about whatever you want. Just start.
Shane: Don't you get it? You can't help.
Rex: Then we will find somebody who can, okay? Just let us help--
Blair: Jack. I'm scared to death for you, son.
Jack: I'm fine.
Blair: You're not fine... because you're not getting something--something very real here. Listen to me. Listen to me, all right? Marty Saybrooke did not ask to be raped. Shane Morasco did not ask to be bullied.
Blair: Don't. No "whatever." Listen to me! You cannot get out of this. Are you sorry?
Blair: You don't seem the least bit sorry for what you did to that boy. Do you realize that you could have scarred him--scarred him for life?
Rex: You're still here. That's good.
Shane: No, it's not. I don't want to be here.
Rex: What do you want?
Gigi: Please, Shane. Please tell us what you want.
Shane: I just want to be happy, normal. I don't want to always be the sick kid that has to always go to the doctor with asthma or cancer. I don't want to have to sit out while everyone else gets to have fun. I don't want to have to make up friends in a comic book because I don't have any real ones. I don't want to live like this.
Gigi: We get it.
Shane: No, you don't! You can't. You were a jock, and you were a cheerleader. You were both popular.
Gigi: Until I got pregnant when I was 17. That wasn't so cool. People pointed at me and whispered behind my back. My parents threw me out. None of my old friends wanted to know me.
Shane: So I ruined your life.
Gigi: No! No. I mean, it seemed that way for a while. I thought my life was over. I thought it was over. No future, no plan, no clue what I should do. But then, Shane, baby, you were born, and I took one look at you, and I knew that you were the best thing that ever happened to me. In one second, it changed like that. And you've made me happy every day of my life since then.
Shane: Not when I was sick.
Gigi: Especially when you were sick, Shane! Do you think I would trade one minute I've had with you? I love you! Please, Shane, I need more minutes! Please! We need more minutes. We need more minutes. Please.
Marty: Of course Liam is Natalie and Brody's. I'm not confused. I--I--it's just that he was supposed to be Natalie and John's, and when you came to visit me, that's what everyone still thought.
Starr: Sure. So what--how have you been? What have you been up to?
Marty: Oh, well, I've been trying to make amends. I apologized to Natalie for everything that I had done to her. Natalie wasn't really hearing it, which I guess I understand. The next person that I need to apologize to is you.
Marty: I blamed you for what happened to Cole. You know, I said that if you hadn't been running around with James--
Starr: Marty, I didn't start seeing James until after--
Marty: No, I do. I know that now. I know that now, and I understand why you had to move on.
Starr: I'm sorry.
Marty: Don't be. You know, sometimes, problems for a couple are too big for the relationship to survive.
John: No. No, not the lecture again. No.
Téa: I just want to say one thing.
John: No, I already know. You forgave Manning, and everything turned out really great, and you're all really, really happy.
Téa: Till he was shot. The fact is, Todd could die, okay? Don't, all right? That is not my point. We never know what's gonna happen. That's my point. You think you have forever to be bitter, to get over it and maybe work things out. It could all be gone like that. You could wake up tomorrow and realize it's too late.
Natalie: He always kicks the blanket off.
Brody: I do that, too.
Natalie: There you go, sweetie. Did you hear anything about my dad when you were at the station?
Brody: Not since he was taken for his arraignment.
Natalie: Oh, God, I just can't believe that my dad could go down for murder.
Brody: Your dad's pretty tough. He can take care of himself.
Natalie: You know, I'm not so sure that I can.
Brody: Hey, hey, you're pretty tough, too.
Charlie: It has nothing to do with you. It's me. It's just that I can't--okay, when I first met you and you were Viki D, I could tell you anything, and you were always able to bring out the best in me, and you still do. But I think that's maybe it, that when I am... really low... I just can't bear to have you see me like that, and that's not blaming you.
Viki: Thank you. There's only one person to blame for this. It's Echo. She manipulated you into this meaningless affair. Charlie, she used you.
Charlie: No, she didn't. Um... Viki, I never meant to hurt you, but Echo and I... it meant something.
Marty: Can you forgive me?
Starr: Of course I can forgive you.
Marty: Thank you. It means a lot because I really need you to be okay with me, you know, because even though you and Cole aren't together anymore, I'd really still like to be able to spend time with Hope.
Starr: You're Hope's grandmother, and you will always be a part of her life.
Marty: That's great. That's great. Gosh, our little miracle baby.
Starr: Cole and I are so lucky. Come on, honey. You thirsty? Yeah, okay. Come on. Let's go. Bye.
Marty: Yeah, you are lucky. It's too bad John and I weren't so lucky. Or John and Natalie.
Brody: I should probably go get started on those files.
Brody: Yeah, I got a long night ahead of me.
Natalie: You want some help?
Brody: That's okay. There's no reason for us both to suffer. Good night, young man. You know, it's hard to stay mad when I have that little guy to come home to.
Natalie: Yeah. Yeah, he's pretty amazing.
Brody: He sure is.
Natalie: See you later, Brody.
John: Look, I, um--I appreciate the nice sentiment. I'll keep you posted on the case.
Téa: "Nice sentiment." Okay, you don't want to talk about Natalie and the baby, that's fine. I got to go. I have a child who needs me. So do you. He's your son if you'll have him. And chase some real leads on Todd's shooter.
Tomás: I swear, your mom used our cat as a witness.
Dani: Stop. No.
Tomás: She argued that I couldn't miss curfew because our cat would have howled when I snuck in.
Dani: And your dad really believed that?
Tomás: Hmm. I think he just admired the effort. When he went to punish me, your mom turned on a dime and pleaded, begged, argued for mercy, even if I was guilty.
Dani: That's so Mom. How old was she?
Tomás: I think she was 8. I was her first case.
Dani: Okay, so what else?
Tomás: What do you mean?
Dani: I want to hear more stories.
Dani: Yeah. You've been keeping my mind off my dad, just for a little while.
Tomás: I'll do what I can.
Dani: You know, I'm glad you're here for me, too. If it was just me and my mom...
Tomás: I hear your dad's a survivor.
Dani: He's almost died before. He needed so much surgery once, he had to get a whole new face.
Tomás: I heard that.
Dani: But you're right. He survived. So if there's any way he can get better, he will.
Tomás: He's got a wife and beautiful kids to come back for. That's incentive.
Dani: And he will want to hunt down the person who shot him.
Blair: You think your father would be on your side and that I'm not on your side?
Jack: You've made up your mind that I'm wrong.
Blair: No. This is not about me, and you're the one that's wrong about your father, because he would be on my side on this. Jack, this is--this is so serious, and there are gonna be some serious consequences.
Jack: What's that supposed to mean?
Blair: That means you're grounded.
Jack: For how long?
Blair: Until I say, all right? Yeah. You don't get to go out on weekends. No weeknights. You're gonna come home straight after school. The only phone you're gonna use is gonna be a phone, a regular phone--no Wi-Fi, no internet, until I say so.
Jack: So I can't do homework.
Blair: Oh, no. You can do your homework. You can use my computer while I'm standing over you, and guess what. You know that MyFace account of yours? That's officially canceled.
Jack: Come on.
Blair: Yeah. No. Your bullying days are over, young man. Over.
Viki: So this affair is--is not an affair?
Charlie: It's more than that.
Viki: Do you love her? Oh, my God. I can't do this.
Woman: There was a time I'd dip my feet and it would roll off my skin now every time I get close to the edge I'm scared of falling in 'cause I don't want to be stranded again on my own when the tide comes in and pulls me below the surface there's something in the water I do not feel safe it always feels like torture to be this close I wish that I was stronger I'd separate the waves not just let the water take me away innocent, they swim I tell them no they just dive right in but do they know? It's a long way down when you're alone there's no air or sound down below the surface there's something in the water I do not feel safe it always feels like torture to be this close I wish that I was stronger I'd separate the waves not just let the water take me away
Rex: Your mom's right. We just need more time. Shane, you have so much to live for. Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey! Look, the roof will always be here. Just give us another chance, okay? You are so much stronger than those jerks making your life hell. You said it yourself. Asthma can't beat you. Neither can cancer. We just need a little help with the creeps right now, okay? But we will find it. I promise. Give us a chance.
Gigi: You said you loved us in your note. Do you? Then come home with us now.
Rex: Come with us, Shane.
On the next "One Life to Live"...
Matthew: I killed someone, Mom.
Nora: Oh, Matthew.
Viki: I just found my husband in bed with another woman.
Starr: Did you hit Jack?
Rex: Come with us, Shane.
