Jessica: Brody told me what you did. You and Tess. You used me? You used my son?
Ford: I'm his father.
Jessica: You just want his trust fund.
Ford: That's not true. I love my son. I have every right--
Jessica: Please. You know how much I need to hold him right now. Let me see my baby.
Shaun: Hey. You okay?
Natalie: Yeah. Just...seeing Todd in there. Just lying completely motionless. It's like he's playing some sort of sick joke on us.
Shaun: I could see your uncle doing that, but this is no joke.
Natalie: I just wish for once it was. I tried talking to Jack, but I think he just wants to be alone with his dad.
Shaun: Any leads on who fired that gun?
Natalie: No. Nothing solid. How about you? Was there anything unusual that happened around here?
Shaun: Had to pull my gun on somebody this morning.
Shaun: Tomás Delgado. We mixed it up a little bit before I knew he was Téa's brother.
Natalie: What happened?
Shaun: It's all right. I already told John the whole story.
John: What a pleasant surprise. What's going on?
Blair: I had to post bail.
John: For who?
Blair: Yeah. It's a long story, but everything's fine now. But I'm glad I ran into you, because we need to talk.
John: About what?
Blair: Tomás Delgado.
[Playing slow tune]
Dani: That's beautiful, Uncle Tomás.
Jack: Téa thinks you can hear us. And I'm not really sure if that's true, but if it is, Dad...I need to tell you something.
Dani's voice: Shane didn't have his inhaler today. Do you know anything about that?
Jack: I did something. Something really bad.
Starr: Jack? What did you do?
Deanna: A baby? You sure worked fast, James. And there I was thinking you were gonna wait for me. Pretty crazy, huh? Thinking we'd last forever. But your father changed all that. And then you were gone.
Clint: Aren't you getting tired of arresting me and then having to let me go an hour later?
Bo: Not this time.
Clint: You need evidence to hold me. And since I didn't murder anybody, evidence is in pretty short supply.
Bo: Not since you were caught on camera.
Clint: Excuse me?
Bo: Some interesting video crossed my desk. You walking out of Eddie Ford's room the night that he was shot with the murder weapon in your hand.
Ford: Look...Jessica, this-- this whole situation is the last thing that I expected. But when you say I'm using that little boy--
Brody: Are you gonna go get him, or do I have to do it?
Ford: This is my home and my son's. You have no rights here.
Brody: I'm done arguing with you, Ford. Jessica's back, she has a right to her child, and we're taking him with or without your permission.
Ford: I've already been to court over all of this.
Jessica: Ford, I'm Ryder's mother. He needs his mother.
Ford: He needs his father, too.
Brody: You never wanted to be a father. As soon as Jessica found out she was pregnant, you tried to lie your way out of responsibility.
Ford: I was scared. I was wrong, okay? I didn't know what it would feel like to see my son and feel a connection that's stronger than anything I've ever felt. It woke up something in me I didn't even know was there.
Brody: I'm sure it didn't hurt that the kid was sitting on a pile of Buchanan money, did it?
Ford: Forget the money. I wanted the right to love my son. But don't worry. You and Clint Buchanan--you tried to make sure that I stay as far away as possible.
Jessica: And that was wrong, Ford. But please. Don't let Ryder suffer for something that he had--
Ford: I'm not trying to let Ryder suffer. I'm trying to take care of him.
Jessica: I know. You have, because Tess sure wasn't, right? You said you know how it feels to be kept from your son. Don't do that to me. Please. If you have a heart, please.
Ford: I'll go get him.
Deanna: Face it. It's over. I came all this way... spent all my money... for nothing.
Jack: I wasn't talking to you. Or him. I was talking to Dad.
Starr: Well, you were going to tell him something. Why was it so bad?
Jack: I cut school, okay? I went to one class and just bailed the rest.
Starr: That's it?
Jack: Mom's gonna freak. She made a huge deal about me going.
Starr: Jack. I'm sure she'll understand. How could you concentrate? How could we think about anything when Dad is like this? I'm sure Dani didn't listen to a word her teachers said today in class. Dani should be here. I'm gonna give her a call.
Jack: No, don't. Don't call Dani.
Dani: What you were playing just now--what is that called?
Tomás: I haven't decided yet.
Dani: You mean you wrote that?
Dani: So you're a composer and a painter and a black belt?
Tomás: You know, I wouldn't be too impressed by that. A lot of people would say that I should stick to one thing. Like your mom. She stuck to the law and now she's a brilliant attorney. But me?
[Plays note on piano]
Tomás: I'm a dabbler. And dabblers never get to the Supreme Court. I'm gonna get a drink. Can I get you something?
Dani: No, thank you. I was actually just looking for Blair.
Tomás: Me, too. Why don't you wait with me? I'd kind of like to spend more time with you. Have you all to myself for a while.
John: You want to talk about Delgado? I believe the last time we did that, you resented some of my questions.
Blair: Well, that was before I walked in on Delgado in Todd's room.
John: Doing what?
Blair: That's what I wanted to know. He said he was just trying to get to know Todd better.
John: That's kind of weird. Especially since Todd's in a coma.
Blair: Maybe he thought because Todd didn't have him up against a wall that he could see him differently. I think I caught him off guard when I walked in and I--I don't know, John. I just kind of got a strange feeling.
John: How strange?
Blair: Is there something that I should know about Tomás Delgado?
John: We ran his name through the system.
Blair: Is there anything in his past that points to him shooting Todd?
Natalie: I know John interviewed you about Tomás. I was just following up.
Shaun: Then you heard about the whole martial arts thing.
Shaun: I never expected to end up on the floor.
Natalie: Tomás knocked you on the floor?
Shaun: So you didn't talk to John.
Natalie: No. John and I really aren't speaking much lately.
Shaun: Sorry to hear that.
Natalie: Yeah, well, I'm sure you know why.
Shaun: I know you guys were supposed to get married and you didn't.
Natalie: Yeah, because he couldn't forgive me for making him believe that Brody's baby is his.
Jessica: I'm so scared. I'm scared I'm gonna start crying and frighten him.
Brody: He's not gonna be scared, Jess. All he's gonna see is how much you love him, and he's gonna be as happy as I am.
Jessica: Hello. Oh, my goodness. Hi, my sweet baby. How are you? Hello, baby. Hi.
Clint: You expect me to believe that the Minute Man motel has surveillance cameras?
Bo: Do you think I'm bluffing?
Clint: I think a place like that survives by not keeping records, so no. They didn't take photographs. Not that night or any night.
Bo: You're right. They didn't. But someone who was shooting an adult film on the premises did, and you walked right through one of the scenes without even knowing. Officer, would you like to do the honors? I'll bet you never thought you'd end up in a triple-X-rated movie, huh?
Deanna: Oh, my God, I'm sorry. Oh, my God. Could this day get any worse?
Rick: Hey, you know, um... it's nothing to cry about. As a matter of fact, I know how you feel. I'm having one of those days myself. But tomorrow's gonna be better, right? Are you coming or going?
Rick: Well, too bad. You're gonna miss that world-famous flan at the Buenos Dias.
Deanna: I only had the pie.
Rick: No wonder you're crying. Unless there's another reason for those tears. Do not tell me that it is over some dude.
Starr: Why shouldn't I call Dani?
Jack: She's not-- she's not really family.
Starr: She's our sister!
Starr: What's going on? Did you and Dani have a fight?
Jack: Not exactly.
Starr: Well, something happened, and you are going to tell me what it is.
Dani: We spent time together. Remember in the car. You drove me to school.
Tomás: You said two words to me--"thanks" and "bye."
Tomás: I'm not blaming you. You hardly know me. And all I really know about you is that you're terribly worried about your father. But what you said this morning to your mom, that you were positive he's gonna wake up? I believed you. And sometimes faith makes miracles happen.
Dani: I wouldn't be too sure about that, Uncle Tomás.
John: Got no priors. Delgado doesn't have a record, at least not in this country.
Blair: So that euro you found at the crime scene--it wasn't important?
John: Could be. For now it doesn't prove that Delgado's involved.
Blair: You still trying to connect him to the crime?
John: I'll tell you what--when we find something out, you'll be the first to know. In the meantime...
John: Maybe... maybe you want to stay away from this guy. Just a little friendly ex-husband-type advice.
Blair: Normally, I would take your little friendly ex-husband advice and tell you to shove it.
John: Yes, you would.
Blair: But unfortunately, the last time you gave me that kind of advice, it was about Elijah Clarke.
John: So maybe you're gonna listen to me this time?
Blair: I'm gonna give you this. This is a photograph that Tomás said that he found at a flea market in Paris.
John: The one he did the portrait from. Let me ask you something. How does a photo of you and Manning on your wedding day end up in a flea market in Paris?
Blair: I don't know, John, and I don't know if this is gonna help you figure out whether Tomás shot Todd or not, but you are welcome to it.
Shaun: I guess I was hoping that things between you and John weren't as bad as the woman made them sound.
Natalie: What woman?
Shaun: Phyllis? Is that her name?
Natalie: You watch "Access Llanview"?
Shaun: Hell, no. But Destiny, she never misses it.
Natalie: Destiny. Right. Right.
Shaun: Natalie, some people know what it is to go the distance. But you and McBain seemed like a good fit.
Natalie: Yeah, I thought so, too. Now he's seeing Kelly Cramer.
Shaun: That's not good.
Natalie: No, it's not.
Shaun: I'm sorry. I really am.
Jessica: He's changed so much.
Brody: He's beautiful.
Jessica: He's grown. And I missed it. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry I left you.
Brody: Jess, Jess, don't. Don't.
Jessica: He must be really confused, you know, after seeing Tess for weeks.
Brody: I don't think Tess spent a whole lot of time with him.
Jessica: I missed so much. She stole it from me like she always does.
Brody: Hey. We're not gonna talk about Tess. She's gone. And starting now, things are the way they're supposed to be. Our life. Our dreams. Yeah?
Jessica: I promise I will never leave you and our baby again.
Brody: Let's go home.
Jessica: Did you hear that? We're gonna go home.
Ford: Wait a second. You're not taking my son anywhere.
Starr: Come on, Jack. What are you so mad at Dani about?
Jack: It's not really her. It's her boyfriend.
Jack: Yeah. Your lame brother.
James: Okay, Jack, tell me what he did.
Jack: He talked trash about my dad.
Jack: In school. In front of everyone. Dad's in a coma, and his brother's saying all this crap.
James: I'm sorry, Jack, but Nate...
Jack: Oh, like you wouldn't say the exact same stuff.
James: No. I wouldn't. And whatever Nate said, I'm sure he didn't mean it.
Jack: The hell he didn't.
Jack: He meant it. He hates Dad. And so do you.
Deanna: I didn't break anything, did I? That's all I need, is to have to pay for something else.
Rick: So far, so good, but let's just make sure. So who's the guy?
Deanna: What guy?
Rick: You know. The heartbreaker. What'd he do? Did he cheat on you?
Deanna: Not really. But I thought he was gonna wait for me. We had all these dreams.
Rick: You can still have dreams. You don't need him to make them come true. Don't give up now.
Deanna: Why not? He obviously did. So nothing's broken, right?
Rick: No. I guess I'm good.
Deanna: Then I'm outta here.
Rick: I see you don't have your portfolio with you. Did you-- did you leave it in the car?
Deanna: My what?
Rick: Obviously you're a model. Did you think I wouldn't notice?
Starr: James didn't do anything, so why are you attacking him?
Jack: Dad was so right. He wanted to keep you and Dani away from him and his brother, and I totally get why. Why did you even bring him here, Starr? You know Dad wouldn't like that.
James: Jack, I don't think anybody knows what your dad--
Jack: Shut it! Obviously, the only time you can stand up to someone is when he's in a coma.
Jack: I mean it. Get out. The last thing my dad needs is to have people in here who don't give a damn if he ever wakes up.
Dani: When my dad came out of surgery, I could've sworn I felt him squeeze my hand. Like, squeeze it. I thought it was the beginning, you know? That he'd do a little more every day and he'd get stronger and stronger, but it never happened.
Tomás: That doesn't mean it won't.
Dani: When I told my mom I knew my dad would wake up... I think I only said it because... I don't want her to be sad. Of course, that's... that's not gonna help her if he never wakes up.
Tomás: You don't know what's gonna happen.
Dani: No. I don't. All I know is that the man in that bed... is not my father. That man can't hear me. That man can't hear any of us.
Tomás: How can you be sure?
Dani: Because if he could hear me, he would wake up. My dad-- he would never put me through what we went through when... when we both thought that my mom was never coming back.
Tomás: You're too young for this.
Dani: He'd never do that.
Blair: Get your hand off that child.
Natalie: Hey, what's that?
John: Just something I got to check out.
Natalie: What, are you in a hurry? Oh. Plans with Kelly. Well, I'd hate to think that I'd get in the way of that. Dad? What's going on?
Clint: Maybe you should ask your uncle.
Natalie: Why is my dad under arrest?
Bo: For the murder of Eddie Ford.
Ford: It's not up for discussion. I'm not letting you take my son.
Brody: If I have to go through you, I will.
Ford: Morgan, it's Robert Ford. I need you to call me. I need to talk to you about the custody case.
Brody: Jessica's back. There is no custody case. No court on earth is gonna take her son away from her.
Jessica: Let us go, Ford.
Ford: I'm not letting you take my son.
Brody: Who are you calling now?
Ford: The cops.
Brody: You think they're gonna arrest one of their own for reuniting a mother with her child? Man up, Ford. Let Jessica take her son home.
Ford: Do you seriously think you can pull this off, Jessica? That you and Brody can go home and everything is forgiven?
Jessica: What are you talking about?
Brody: He had sex with your sister! She's raising his baby! You can't live with that. It's why you left.
Dani: What's wrong? Uncle Tomás was just trying to comfort me because of my dad.
Tomás: I didn't mean to upset you.
Blair: Listen, I--I'm sorry. I overreacted. I just--I'm really worried about your father, too, sweetheart, okay? Listen, when your mama was sick, I promised her that I would look after you, and I just--you know, I just didn't want you to feel that you had to turn to somebody else for comfort right now.
Tomás: She was waiting for you. I was just filling in till you got here.
Blair: What? You want to talk to me about your dad?
Dani: Actually, I came here to talk to you about Jack.
Blair: What about Jack?
James: You are wrong, and you're out of line, buddy. I don't hate your dad.
Jack: You're such a liar.
Starr: Jack, what's wrong with you?
Jack: Me? What's wrong with you? Dad warned you this guy was gonna hurt you, and you're too stupid to listen.
James: Whoa. Hey, hold on a second.
Starr: Stop. Stop. Stop!
Deanna: Right. I'm the next Naomi Campbell. Does that line actually work for you?
Rick: Hey, it got you to smile. It's not a line. I'm in the business.
Deanna: Fashion photography?
Rick: Feature films.
Deanna: Seriously? Anything I've seen?
Rick: Probably not. But I have a small but loyal following. I'm transitioning into more mainstream stuff. You'll be hearing my name one day.
Deanna: Okay. I'll be on the lookout back at the multiplex in Dayton, where I can actually afford a ticket.
Rick: Ohio? What's there?
Deanna: Home--the last place I want to be.
Rick: So don't let some dude chase you back there. Stay here and start over. Who knows? You stick around, maybe that heartbreaker will finally come to his senses.
Clint: It's not true, Natalie. I didn't do it. I swear.
Natalie: Does Uncle Bo really think that my dad killed someone? I mean, what motive would he have? He didn't even know Eddie Ford.
John: Yeah, he did. Eddie was part of his scheme to get back at Bo and Nora, and your father coerced Inez into trying to seduce Bo. He then made a deal with Eddie to kidnap Nora. To cover his tracks, he killed Eddie Ford.
Natalie: That's insane.
John: Yeah, it is, but it happened.
Natalie: Kidnapping and murder?
John: Hey, look, I'm--I'm sorry, Natalie. We didn't have the evidence, but we've suspected Clint for a while.
Natalie: We? You knew my dad was under investigation for murder and--how long?
John: What does it matter?
Natalie: How long, John? When did you find out?
John: Clint's been a suspect since some time before we were supposed to get married.
Natalie: And you decided not to tell me?
John: We didn't have the evidence. I had no reason to upset you.
Natalie: How about the truth? But you kept it from me. So lo and behold, I'm not the only one who was keeping secrets on our wedding day.
Brody: Jessica, do not listen to him. He's just trying to stop us from--
Ford: He doesn't want you to remember, Jessica. He doesn't want you to remember, but what's gonna happen when you see Natalie? What's gonna happen when you see Natalie's baby, when you see how close Mommy and Daddy got while you--
Brody: Shut up, Ford!
Ford: I mean, what did you think they were doing the whole time? I'll tell you what they were doing. They were looking at their son and remembering the night that they made him.
Ford: I'm not telling you anything you're not gonna see for yourself, but you know--you know Natalie's gonna whitewash it for you. She's gonna tell you that John left her and that she had nobody to turn to, and why wouldn't he leave her? I mean, he doesn't want to raise somebody else's kid, especially--especially after your sister lied to him all these months.
Brody: Jessica, we're going.
Ford: So then Natalie turns to Brody, and he's more than happy to oblige, but he was too busy with baby Liam that he never once decided to check up on Ryder. You can't deny that.
Brody: We were in the middle of a custody case! I had to wait for it to play out.
Ford: A father who cares doesn't wait! He keeps trying. But you were so busy with your whole other family--you and Natalie and--
Brody: Jessica. Hey, Jess, it's okay. Once we get out of here, everything's okay. Do you hear me?
Jessica: Get your meat hooks off me.
Jessica: What the hell is going on here?
Brody: Jess, no, no. Please. You have to come back.
Tess: Who are you calling "Jessica," bonehead? Take that thing. Jeez, it's naptime.
Brody: Please. Please, Jessica, I'm begging--
Tess: Get your hands off me! I am not gonna tell you again.
Brody: Every word he said, he's just trying to turn you against me. Jessica, please. You did it once. You can do it again. You fight. You fight your way back to us. Please, baby.
Tess: "Please, baby, please." God. You sure do know how to make a girl's stomach turn.
Brody: I love you, and I know you're in there. I know it, Jessica.
Tess: Sorry. Jessica's gone, and I've thrown away the key. She's locked up. So you can hit the road.
Brody: Not without you.
Tess: Touch me again, and you will live to regret it.
Brody: You did this, you son of a bitch. She was here.
Ford: I did what I had to do for my son.
Tess: Sorry, Bro-Bro. Me and Bobsey over here are gonna play house, so you can get going. Why don't you play house with Natalie and old little what's-his-name, okay?
Brody: Jessica, I'm not giving up on you. I never will.
Tess: I slipped for one little second, but she is not coming back ever.
Brody: Yes, she is.
Tess: All right, whatever. Suit yourself. See you later. Bye, Bro-Bro. Bye-bye! Whoo! Nice job, killer. You ripped Jessica's mushy little heart out. I have to be honest with you. I am kind of turned on.
Natalie: Treating me like crap for lying to you, yet it turns out that you've been doing the same damn thing.
John: Not the same. Not even close.
Natalie: You were going to marry me knowing that my father was under investigation for murder, and you thought I didn't deserve to know.
John: Like an idiot, I was trying to protect you.
Natalie: Yeah, well, you know what? I was trying to protect you, too. When I found out that the baby was Brody's, I didn't--I didn't want to break your heart.
John: Too late. And those are two totally different situations. There's no comparison.
Natalie: Oh, okay. So you think that it's fair that you and my Uncle Bo were doing everything that you could to put my father in jail, and you didn't think I should know.
John: Hey, I was gonna tell you as soon as we had the evidence, but you were never gonna tell me about the baby, were you, Natalie?
Natalie: Oh, now who's making an unfair comparison?
John: You would have let me go my whole life thinking Liam was my son! I think that beats waiting a few weeks to give you some bad news.
Natalie: What is this, a contest?
John: No, not to me.
Bo: Well, I'm sorry, Clint. You leaving Eddie Ford's room with a gun in your hand--the same gun you planted at Inez's apartment. You're not gonna get away with it this time. I've got you.
Clint: I'd like to call my lawyer.
Bo: I understand you want to protect your family. Your daughter already seems pretty upset. I'm sure you'd like to spare her and Joey and Jessica the pain of dealing with a trial that's bound to end up in a media circus.
Clint: What are you trying to sell me?
Bo: I'm offering you the chance to avoid putting your family through hell.
Bo: Confess. This is Commissioner Buchanan. It's March 29, 2011. The next voice you hear will be that of Clint Buchanan.
Blair: Did something happen? What happened with Jack?
Dani: Today in school, all of a sudden, Jack comes running out of the gym with a bunch of his guy buddies, and he looked--I don't know. He looked like something was going on, so I tried to ask him about it, but he ran out of the place like it was on fire.
Blair: And you don't know why?
Dani: I was with Destiny, and we heard a noise from inside the gym. And you know Shane? He was lying on the floor having this really bad asthma attack.
Blair: Oh, my God.
Dani: It was so scary. He couldn't breathe. He didn't have his inhaler.
Blair: Where was it? Why didn't he have it?
Dani: That's what his mom was asking him when she showed up. She said that Shane had it with him before he went to school, so I started wondering if--
Blair: No. Do not say what I think that you're gonna say.
Dani: Blair, I'm sorry, but I think Jack took that inhaler. I'm worried about him. You believe me, don't you?
Shaun: Jack, I was this close to coming in there before. Why were you yelling?
Jack: Starr's stupid boyfriend. Just get rid of him.
Shaun: For what?
Jack: You're getting paid to guard my dad, not ask questions. Just do it, okay?
Shaun: I would if I thought it would make you feel better, but it won't.
Jack: Then what will?
Shaun: Other than your father waking up? I wish I knew.
Starr: Hey, looks like someone we both know has found a job possibility for you. Check it out.
James: Let me see. Oh, yeah.
Deanna: Even if I wanted to, I can't stay here without a job, and I don't think there are a lot of opportunities around here. I can barely pay for a room at this dive. Even my--my ex is having a hard time finding something.
Rick: I'll tell you what. You give me some time, I might be able to hook you up.
Deanna: With what?
Rick: We'll talk opportunities over that flan at the Buenos Dias. After.
Deanna: After what?
Rick: After you decide not to give up on those dreams and let this dude run you off, all right? Think about it. Think about showing him and everybody else what you're made of.
Deanna: Okay, James. Maybe there's still a chance for us.
Brody: Natalie, what's going on?
Clint: This is Clint Buchanan, and I'm going to keep it short. I confess that I did not kill Eddie Ford, and my brother the commissioner can go straight to hell.
Brody: Arrested? Natalie, I'm so sorry. Are you okay?
Natalie: Yeah, I'm fine. I was just gonna ask you the same thing. Is everything okay with Liam?
Brody: Yeah, Liam's fine.
Brody: It's Jessica. She came back.
Natalie: What? That's incredible! That's great news. When did--
Brody: It didn't last. She's gone now. We came so close, and she was in my arms, and she was there, and she was Jessica. And then we went to get Ryder. He was our son again, and I was gonna get my life back, and then...
Natalie: What happened?
Brody: Ford. He started to say things--all this stuff that made Tess come out in the first place. He made it sound like we wanted her out of the picture so that we could be together.
Natalie: That bastard!
Brody: And then I turned around and I looked in her eyes, and the light was gone and Tess was looking back at me... and I wanted to die.
Ford: I didn't rip Jessica apart to turn you on. I did it to keep my son.
Tess: Well, thanks for the cheap thrill, but now that it's over, you're the same old disgusting pig you always were.
Ford: I don't care what you say to me. I care what you do. Until we get custody of Ryder, you stay put. You don't go out with Cutter or any other guy you got the hots for. Are we clear?
Tess: I don't take orders from you. Are we clear?
Ford: Listen, I just hurt a perfectly decent woman, and it felt like crap. You better make damn sure I didn't do it for nothing.
Blair: I know that you and Jack have never really gotten along, and I do know that he can be trouble. But the problems that Jack and Shane have had recently--that was Shane, not Jack. And actually, I saw them together this morning. They were fine. They were getting along.
Dani: I mean, it's possible that I'm wrong, but--
Blair: I think that you are. I mean, Jack can be a lot of things, but he would never deliberately put somebody's life in danger. He wouldn't.
Dani: Yeah, I know. I just thought you should know. It was bothering me.
Blair: Sweetheart, I think what's going on with your father is bothering you, too, and if Jack was acting a little weird today, I'm sure it was for the same reasons. I mean, this is really, really tough for you guys. It's tough for all of us. You know, hey, it makes us all do things that we wouldn't normally do or say things we wouldn't normally say.
[Tomás playing piano]
Natalie: Brody, I am so sorry. You shouldn't have to go through this.
Brody: I'm sorry, too. I'm sorry for you.
Ford: How's my man, hmm? How's my little man? You're up and ready to play, hmm?
