Dani: Dad, I really am sorry for the things that I said to you. I know you were trying to protect me. But I don't need protecting from Nate, okay? Dad, he loves me, and I love him.
Destiny: Hey, Nate.
Destiny: You got a second?
Nate: Yeah. Practice just ended.
Destiny: Yeah, I can tell. You reek.
Nate: You mean I rock. Right?
Destiny: You're in a good mood. So is Dani's father any better?
Nate: No. He's still in a coma.
Destiny: You don't seem too broken up about it.
Nate: I'm not.
Starr: I had no idea so many people cared about Dad.
Blair: Well, to be honest, most of the people on the list work at the "Sun."
Starr: Well, I'm still going to thank them anyway. I just wish there had been a change in his condition.
Jack: I was so sure he'd be awake when we went to see him this morning. How long is he gonna be like this?
Blair: I'll be right back. You finish your breakfast. You have to go to school.
Gigi: Shane, eat. You can't be late on your first day back.
Shane: I'm not hungry.
Gigi: If you're afraid that all the kids are gonna ask you what it was like to be suspended, maybe you should have thought twice about stealing people's money.
Manager: We paying daily or weekly rates?
Woman: I'm not sure yet how long I'll be staying.
Manager: Three nights in advance--cash.
Starr: I tried calling, and they said that the line was disconnected.
James: That's what happens when you don't pay your bill. I thought you'd be at the hospital. I was just coming here to get some coffee on my way.
Starr: I was there earlier.
James: Oh. How's your dad doing?
Starr: He was helpless, and Todd Manning isn't helpless. I can't stand seeing him in that bed.
James: They need to catch the guy who put him there. Are the cops any closer to finding a suspect?
John: Any blood results on the shooter yet? Let me know when you do. I thought CSI was done here.
John: What are you doing here?
Natalie: I'm working, same as you, trying to find out who shot Todd.
John: What happened to maternity leave?
Natalie: Today's my first day back, part-time.
John: Is Liam okay after going to the hospital?
Natalie: He's fine, but honestly, if you were that worried, you would have called.
John: I wanted to, but I didn't think it was my place. I didn't want to step on his father's toes.
Natalie: Right. By the way, um, you know who served me this morning at the Buenos Dias? Gigi. Yeah. I think it's great that she found a job so fast after she was fired, right?
John: What's your point?
Natalie: My point is you said you were going to fix things. You can't keep punishing her for things that I did.
John: I'm sorry, but I'm kind of busy here.
Natalie: Okay, but you could have picked up the phone and called her.
John: Natalie, CSI is done. You can go.
Natalie: That was the "B" team, okay? I'm gonna stick around and make sure that they didn't miss anything. You have a problem with that?
Woman: There you go. Um, excuse me. Does this place have Wi-Fi?
Manager: Oh, sure. Only the best around here.
James: Starr, I'm sorry that your dad's not any better. I wish I could have come up with more than just a handful of flowers.
Starr: No, it was sweet. But, James, if you can't afford to pay your phone bill, you should not be buying me flowers.
James: Even if it was just 4 bucks?
Starr: I don't need flowers. It's enough that you're here.
Gigi: It looks like there's enough in here to last you through the day. Here. Put this in your pocket. All right, you're ready to go. Just promise me I won't get any more phone calls from the principal's office.
Shane: You won't.
Gigi: Great, because if you pull something as crazy as last time, it won't be a suspension. They'll kick you out.
Shane: I know, okay?
Gigi: You can't take someone else's money and then try to blame it on someone else.
Shane: Mom, can we just stop talking about it?
Gigi: All right. I want you to be nice to Jack. His dad is in the hospital. It's a really tough time for him. I'm gonna get you some bus money.
Blair: Of course you have to go. What kind of stupid question is that?
Jack: My dad's in a coma. Isn't that a good enough excuse to miss school?
Blair: Jack, there's nothing that you can do for your father right now, okay? Here's your bus money.
Jack: Public transportation? Are you serious? Dad would have driven me.
Blair: Well, you know what? Dad's not gonna drive you, and neither am I, seriously. So go on. Stop giving me a hard time. Listen. Do not give Shane a hard time. He apologized, you know.
Jack: In a letter.
Blair: Yeah, and I thought it was very, very thoughtful.
Jack: Hey, Shane. Wait up. Thanks for your letter, man. You didn't have to do that.
Gigi: That was very cool.
Blair: I know. Was that my son? Gigi, aren't you supposed to be working at Rodi's?
Gigi: Not anymore.
John: You want to stay, stay.
Natalie: Gee, thanks.
John: Just try to stay out of my way.
Natalie: Damn it, John. I mean, is this not hard enough without you being cold every chance you get? I mean, could you consider maybe being a little civil?
John: When you lied to me for 9 months, was that your idea of being civil?
Natalie: You know what? If you can't handle me being here, then maybe you should just take another sick day.
John: I can handle it just fine, just as long as we have some ground rules.
Natalie: Like what?
John: Well, it's like I told your baby daddy. We focus on the work. No personal stuff.
Kelly: John, hi. I was just coming by to see how you're doing.
Natalie: Well, so much for no personal stuff.
Tomás: I'm here to see Todd Manning. Is there a problem?
Shaun: Only family is allowed in.
Tomás: I am family.
Shaun: Then we do have a problem.
Tomás: His wife is my sister.
Shaun: I've known Téa a long time, and you're not her brother any more than I am. I'm thinking we should settle this down at the police station.
Tomás: Get your hands off me.
Shaun: After I get you checked out.
Tomás: Wrong answer.
Téa: What was that?
Shaun: You didn't want to do that.
Gigi: So any news about Todd?
Blair: No. He still hasn't regained consciousness.
Gigi: I'm sorry. That's got to be so tough on the kids.
Blair: Yeah. I think Jack is taking it harder than all of them.
Shane: Sorry about your dad.
Jack: Sure you are, wheezy.
Shane: I thought you weren't gonna call me that anymore.
Jack: That was before the other night when you wussed out.
Shane: You weren't sorry about anything, were you?
Jack: You just realized? It makes sense. You're too stupid to even breathe right. But listen, wheezy. You tell anyone that I took that raffle money, and you won't need that inhaler because I'll put you in a coma or worse.
Gigi: I'm sorry Jack has to go through all this, but let me reassure you, I told Shane to not cause any more trouble for him.
Blair: I'm sure it was just a one-time thing.
Gigi: I still can't believe it happened. Shane's been kind of in a tailspin lately. He was really loving having Charlie Banks as a grandfather, and then he found out that--
Blair: And Clint Buchanan's not exactly warm and fuzzy. I get that.
Gigi: Yeah, but I didn't expect Shane to start--I mean stealing and trying to pin it on Jack. It's ridiculous. I apologize for him.
James: Sorry to interrupt. Gigi, I was just wondering if you could tell me if Buenos Dias is hiring at all.
Gigi: Oh, well, they were the other day, but I got the job. Sorry.
James: No problem. Oh, you know, actually, here's my e-mail address. Could you let me know if anything opens up?
Blair: Looking for a job is really tough these days.
James: Yeah. I know. I need to find something really fast, too.
Starr: You will, and that's what the internet is for. Now come on. Let's go. So where should we start?
James: No, Starr. This is not your problem. You've got plenty of other things to worry about.
Starr: And if I keep obsessing over my dad, I'm going to lose my mind, so I figured that I would use this to channel my energy into something positive, okay?
James: Okay. You win. Let's sit.
Deanna: Relationship status: Single.
Destiny: You can't be happy that Dani's dad got shot. Wait. Oh, my God. You're not the one--
Nate: Hell, no. Why would you even think that--oh, because I got arrested when my dad was killed.
Destiny: I'm sorry.
Nate: They dropped the charges.
Destiny: I know. It's just you and Mr. Manning aren't, like, best friends or whatever.
Nate: Dani loves him, so if there was anything I could do, anything at all to make him open his eyes again, I'd do it.
Destiny: I believe you, but that means whoever did shoot him...
Nate: They're still out there.
Tomás: This guy was gonna haul me down to the P.D.
Shaun: He was trying to get inside Todd's room. He gave me some line about being your brother.
Téa: He is my brother, Shaun.
Shaun: What kind of brother doesn't show up when his sister is staring down a death sentence?
Tomás: I didn't know.
Téa: Good question. Tomás and I haven't seen each other in a long time. He showed up in my life a few days ago. He and Dani just met each other.
Shaun: Okay, my mistake.
Tomás: Are you a cop?
Téa: No. Shaun is a bodyguard and a close family friend.
Dani: Yeah. That thing he was talking about before--Mom's death sentence? We all thought she was gonna die, but she wasn't really, and Shaun was great to my dad and me. He did everything he could to help us find her. We won't forget that.
Shaun: Any time, Dani. You know you're family to me.
Téa: I hired Shaun to make sure that whoever shot Todd didn't come back to finish the job.
Shaun: I thought you were here to finish him off.
Kelly: I'm running the newspaper while Todd is in the hospital. I'm here as a reporter.
Natalie: Oh. Well, that's great. Did you see that yellow tape out there? It says "Do Not Cross." We actually put it up there to discourage reporters from crossing the line. How come you weren't discouraged?
Kelly: Here's my pass. Officer Jonas gave it to me. You can put it under a microscope if you like.
Natalie: Go ahead. Just contaminate my crime scene. That's great.
Kelly: Well, there's no doubt the shooter was firing from this window.
John: Close to where you're standing.
Kelly: And you were all the way over there in that parking lot when you wounded him?
Natalie: I'm sorry. Is this some kind of new journalism where you print the story first and then ask for the facts?
Kelly: Maybe I should come back later.
Natalie: You think?
John: No, Natalie. You ran Kelly off last time that we were all together. You're not doing it again.
Natalie: You know what? Maybe I'll just leave, then. That way you guys can contaminate the entire crime scene before I get back. I'm gonna be out on the stairwell.
John: So do you have any questions?
John: Do you have one of those little note pads you write things down in?
Kelly: No. No. I keep it all right here.
John: Oh, boy.
Kelly: Do you have any other leads on the shooter?
John: Well, we found blood here. We'll get the panels back from the lab. We feed the results into a computer, and if the shooter is in the system, we get a match.
Kelly: What I don't understand is if your bullet hit someone, wouldn't they need medical attention?
John: I guess it depends on where I hit him.
Tomás: For my sister's sake, I'm glad my brother-in-law is getting special attention-- ahem--although he did almost put me in traction.
Shaun: I think that was the other way around. Where'd you learn how to fight?
Tomás: That was while I was studying at Juilliard.
Dani: I thought that was a music school.
Tomás: There was a karate studio around the corner. It was a great release after sitting at the piano all day.
Shaun: You play piano?
Téa: Brilliantly. Wait. You studied karate? Weren't you afraid it might hurt your hands?
Tomás: I just had to make sure I was better than everyone else. You look tired, parajito. What do the doctors say about Todd?
Téa: They don't. Every time I ask if he's gonna wake up, they don't give me an answer.
Gigi: I hope it's just a phase, but I don't know. I mean, maybe that's why Shane latched on to Charlie so much--because he doesn't have that many friends at school.
Blair: Well, being a freshman can be tough.
Gigi: He never had trouble fitting in before. I am so worried about him.
Jack: Wheezy and I had a nice bus ride together this morning, so I had time to make a few things clear. He gets what a bonehead move it was to try to blame me for stealing that raffle money.
Brad: Pointing the finger at someone else when you get caught red-handed? That's just stupid.
Jack: See? Brad agrees with me. So does the entire school.
Shane: It's because you put the money in my locker. You set me up!
Jack: You're gonna pay for that.
Nate: Starr sent an update about her dad.
Destiny: Looks like he's still unconscious. Happy?
Nate: Come on. I didn't mean it like that.
Destiny: So, what did you mean?
Starr: Just put it out there.
James: What, like, "Hi, everybody. I'm looking for a job"?
Starr: Why not? Someone we know must know someone who's hiring.
Deanna: A job?
Nate: My brother's job-hunting on MyFace. Maybe I can help him out.
Destiny: You got a job for him?
Nate: The Buenos Dias was looking for a server a couple of days ago.
Starr: James, look. You already got an answer.
James: Oh, it's just my brother. I guess he didn't know that the job here has already been filled.
James: That's it? One response?
Starr: Hey, it's only been two minutes. Give it some time. Okay?
Nate: So here's the thing. When I said I wasn't totally broken up about Dani's father, I just meant, it's a relief not to have to be looking over my shoulder. He hates me, Destiny. He shot at me.
Nate: When he caught me and my brother with Dani and Starr, he had a gun. It was fake, but we didn't know. We thought we were gonna die.
Destiny: I can't believe he threatened you, even if it wasn't a real gun.
Nate: I know, right? You got to admit, Todd Manning can be a real psycho sometimes.
Jack: What'd you say about my dad?
Dani: You sound like you think Dad is not gonna make it.
Téa: I never said that.
Dani: Mom, it doesn't matter what the doctors say or what they don't say. He's gonna wake up. We know that. He's going to wake up.
Téa: That's right. He's strong, stronger than all of us put together.
Tomás: I'm sorry. I shouldn't have pressed you for information you don't already have. Do the police have any leads?
Shaun: I'm not sure, but the chief of detectives is on the case, and knowing McBain, the shooter is toast.
Téa: Tomás, what's wrong?
John: Other than Manning, there's no record of anyone with a gunshot wound showing up at the hospital. We're checking with doctors in surrounding towns. If I hear anything, I'll let you know.
Kelly: Thank you. Well, then I will let you get back to your work. Bye.
John: Okay. Hey, Kelly... I think we need to talk.
Kelly: Since when does the original man of few words start conversations?
John: I know. I'm kind of scaring myself.
John: Just, we haven't had much of a chance to talk since Natalie walked in on us.
Kelly: Since she ran me off? Isn't that how you put it?
Kelly: You know, what was I supposed to do--I don't know-- stand my ground? Frankly, I didn't feel like I had much ground to stand on, being half-naked and all.
John: I don't think we were doing anything wrong.
Kelly: That is a matter of opinion, but, yes, it was awkward, and it's over now. So what do you say we just forget it?
John: Hey, would you like to do something together, like maybe do something proper like go get something to eat or see a movie or something?
Kelly: Yeah. I'd like that.
John: See you tonight?
Natalie: Found something.
John: On the stairwell?
John: What'd you find?
Natalie: Well, unless policies have changed, as far as I know, reporters aren't allowed to find out fresh evidence before the chief investigator.
Téa: Tomás, what's wrong? Are you in pain?
Shaun: Not because of me, right? I didn't put my hands on him.
Tomás: No, no. It's not your fault. It's an old injury.
Shaun: Let me go get you some water or something.
Tomás: Thank you.
Téa: What kind of injury is it?
Tomás: Oh, it's just sometimes when I move suddenly, it cramps. I'll be fine, really. It'll pass.
Téa: You sure?
Tomás: I probably just need something to eat. I'm sure you guys are hungry, too. How about if I just take us all to breakfast, huh?
Téa: Ah, no. No, thank you, but Dani has to go to school.
Téa: No. No arguments. If anything changes with Dad, I will call you immediately. Please, Dani, for me, all right?
Tomás: Well, at least let me drive her.
Dani: Really? Yeah. Thanks. That'd be awesome.
Téa: That's very nice of you.
Tomás: I'll tell you what. On the way back, I'll stop for some comfort food. I know it's been a long time, pajarita, but I still remember all your favorites.
Tomás: Come on, Dani.
Nate: Jack, I'm sorry.
Jack: You're talking smack about a man lying in a hospital bed who can't even defend himself?
Nate: I was wrong. I shouldn't have said anything.
Jack: I don't get what my sister sees in you. You want to talk about psycho dads? Look at yours! That guy was insane, and your mom, from what I hear, she's just a whore.
Nate: What the hell did you say?
Jack: You heard me.
Destiny: Nate, it's not worth it.
Nate: What the hell is your problem? I apologized to you.
Jack: Yeah? Apology not accepted. Hey, wheezy, ready to have some fun?
Gigi: I kept telling myself these past few months that Shane just needs time to adjust to a new school, new teachers, new hormones, whatever, but after he stole that money, I had to face it. He's in trouble. He used to hang out with friends and have sleepovers. Now no one ever invites him to anything.
Blair: Well, it won't last.
Gigi: Maybe this started when Rex and I split up before.
Blair: Gigi, stop it. Don't do this to yourself. No matter how good a parent you are, you can't stop your kids from going through what they're gonna go through. Shane will come through this on the other side. You'll see.
Blair: Yeah, really. Look at my daughter over there. If I told you the stories about her growing up, it would make even your hair curl. Now you look at her. She turned out all right, and Shane will, too. You'll see.
Starr: All of these jobs require a college degree.
James: I know.
Starr: Aah! Score.
James: Where? I don't see it.
Starr: A garage is asking for a mechanic.
James: No. I called them already. You have to have certification, and I don't have any.
Starr: What kind of certification?
James: Proof that you went through auto repair training.
Starr: Well, you did at your dad's shop.
James: Doesn't count.
Starr: And some stupid piece of paper does? Why don't you just have them call the guys that you used to work with?
James: Because those guys are either in prison or still boosting cars like I used to do. Gosh, when I left Dayton, I thought that was it. Just leave it all behind, but suddenly, here it is, all back and smacking me right in the face.
Jack: Hey, Coach, did Ms. Wilson find you?
Coach: Was she looking for me?
Jack: Well, she came in asking where Coach was.
Coach: She didn't say which coach? I'll go to the office and check. Start working the drills till I get back.
Jack: Don't just sit there, Morasco. Fetch.
Brad: Whoa, who taught you to throw, princess?
Jack: What do you say, guys? Let's give wheezy a chance to practice his skills.
Boy: Ooh, ha ha! Where you going, whee? Where you going? Come on.
Boy: Oh, ho ho!
Boy: Ha ha ha!
Kelly: It's okay. I was leaving, anyway. I'll see you later?
John: Absolutely. Okay. What did you find?
Natalie: Something in between the floorboards.
John: Hmm. It's a euro.
Natalie: Mm-hmm. You think this belongs to the shooter?
John: I don't know. I dusted for fingerprints, only got partials, but my guess is, this does belong to the shooter. He was either just coming back from Europe or on his way there.
Tomás: I'm not coming back to Paris, not now. No. There's security on him. Don't worry. He isn't talking, and it's beginning to sound like he never will.
John: Then it's a good thing you decided to do another sweep.
Natalie: Yeah. I'm glad I could help.
John: You're a good investigator, Natalie.
Natalie: I had some really good teachers. Are you heading back to the station?
John: I think I'm gonna swing by the Buenos Dias and see if I can clear things up with Gigi.
Natalie: That's great. That's really great. I'm gonna stay around here. I just want to keep looking around, make sure nothing fell through the cracks, literally. Heh.
John: Okay. Hey... it's pretty cold in here. You might want to zip up that jacket.
Téa: I hope I did the right thing, making her go to school.
Shaun: Sure. Keep things normal.
Téa: Yeah. Yeah. She thinks I did it so she wouldn't have to see me thinking about Todd. She said that he did the same thing when they thought I was dying.
Shaun: Those were some rough days. I never thought I'd see Todd Manning like that. I don't mind saying it. I was scared for the man, and now I'm scared for you.
Téa: Oh, I'm fine. I'm really fine. It's Dani I'm worried about. It was such a short time ago that she thought she was losing me, and now to have to go through it all again thinking this time that she might lose--
Shaun: It's okay. I know you can't say it to Dani, but you can say it to me.
Téa: What if he never wakes up? What will happen to Dani? Oh, God, Shaun, what will happen to me?
Destiny: We were just talking about you.
Nate: I told Destiny I didn't think you'd make it to school today.
Destiny: I'm glad you did. How's your dad doing?
Dani: Um, the same.
Destiny: How about you? How are you doing?
Dani: I kind of had a weird morning. Shaun almost shot my uncle.
Destiny: What uncle?
Dani: My mom's brother showed up a few days ago out of nowhere.
Destiny: Why did Shaun almost get into it with him?
Dani: Well, Shaun thought that my uncle was the guy who shot my dad.
Blair: Gigi, while you were in the parking lot, did you happen to see anything that might help us find out what happened to Todd?
Gigi: No. Sorry. I was pretty much a wreck, but John has got to be closing in on someone by now.
Blair: I hope so.
Gigi: You would think.
Tomás: You heard anything?
Blair: You know what? We were just talking about that. Actually. This is Gigi Morasco. This is Téa's brother Tomás Delgado.
Gigi: Nice to meet you. Got to get back to work.
Tomás: I'm gonna order some food for Téa.
Blair: Well, I bet you if you tell them who it's for, they will throw in two of everything.
Tomás: My sister is really lucky to be surrounded by so many caring people.
Starr: Look at how much you have accomplished. You are living with your brother, and you finished a semester at college.
James: And I'm with you. Can't get much further from Dayton, Ohio, than that.
Starr: Well, there is one thing that still hasn't changed from your past.
Starr: Um... your "relationship" status. Single?
James: Well, I guess I better fix that, huh?
Starr: No time like the present.
James: Is that better?
James: Oh, I got a message from Bobby. "Kudos on the relationship status, but you really need a phone." Oh, wait. He's got to work. He wants to know if I can baby-sit Ryder. "On my way."
Starr: Do you think Tess'll be there?
James: All I know is, Langston definitely won't be.
Starr: I can't blame her for having to bail. He's married now.
James: But not like he wants to be. It's complicated.
Starr: Can you just promise me that things will never get that complicated between us?
James: Never. I promise. I got to go.
James: All right. Bye.
Tomás: So how are you holding up?
Blair: I'm fine. I'm just worried about my kids, especially Jack. I mean, he can be rough, even on a good day. Todd seems to be the only one that can handle him, and if he's not around, I just don't want Jack going off the deep end, you know?
Jack: What's wrong, wheezy? You feeling okay?
Shane: Come on, Jack. Give it.
Jack: For free? No way. You got 100 bucks, I'll think about it.
Jack: Sorry. Come on, guys. Let's get out of here.
Destiny: So who's more ticked, my uncle or yours?
Dani: No. They cleared everything up. I mean, it seemed okay when I left.
Nate: What about you? You don't seem so okay.
Dani: I didn't catch much sleep last night.
Nate: Well, I don't have class till later. I was gonna go see Bobby and the baby, but I'll stick around.
Dani: No, no. You go ahead. Des and I will hang for a while.
Nate: All right. Remember, I'm just a phone call away.
Destiny: He's really worried about you.
Dani: I know.
Jack: Let's get the hell out of here.
Dani: Wait, wait Jack.
Dani: Wait. What's going on?
Blair: Listen, Tomás. I know that Todd is not your favorite person, but he is--
Tomás: Doesn't matter what I think. I know how much he means to his family. Good-bye. Do you want to come to the hospital with me?
Blair: Sure. Let's go over and tell Starr.
Blair: Sweetheart, you remember Tomás--that's Téa's brother-- and this, of course, is my beautiful daughter.
Tomás: Nice to see her again. I do wish we'd run into each other in happier times.
Starr: Me, too, but I know that Dani is really glad you're here.
Blair: We're gonna head over to the hospital and sit with Téa for a while, all right?
Starr: Okay. Will you tell her that I love her and tell Dad I said the same?
Blair: Okay. We're going.
Natalie: Hmm, John left.
Kelly: I know. I came here to talk to you.
Natalie: Oh, well, I only have one thing to say to you, Kelly. When this is all said and done, John is coming back. John is coming back to me and our baby.
Blair: Hi, John. This is Tomás, Téa's brother.
Shaun: How long have you and your brother been out of touch?
Téa: A long time.
Shaun: Do you know what he's been doing to keep busy all this time?
Téa: Playing piano, painting. Why?
Shaun: I've done time, okay, and I've been in more than a few fights. Your brother is not just some professional artist. I'd say he's a pro fighter, too.
John: Hey, how you doing?
Tomás: Hi. I was just taking Blair back to the hospital.
Gigi: Oh, oh, good. I'm glad I caught you. You gave me foreign money by accident. I recognize this from when I was in Paris. They're Euros, right?
