Jessica: Ok, Mom. Well, I hope she lets you sleep through the night.
[Knock on door]
Clint: It's just me.
Jessica: Ok, Mom, um, Dad just got here, so I'm going to talk to you later. I love you. Thanks again. Bye. Hi.
Jessica: Have you heard anything about Antonio?
Clint: I just ran into Cristian in the hallway and there's news -- it's good news --
Jessica: Oh, good.
Clint: Antonio's awake.
Jessica: Ok. Well, I'd like to see him now. That's all.
Cristian: How you feeling?
Antonio: Like I have the world's worst hangover.
Cristian: Well, when you're out of here and home, I'll -- I'll take you out to celebrate, and then we can both have a hangover.
Antonio: It's a nice offer.
Cristian: I guess what I mean is I want my brother back. Is that possible?
Nigel: Will you be having the usual six marshmallows in your hot cocoa, Master Matthew?
Matthew: Yes, please -- you know how I like it.
Renee: And you have to have another cookie. Look -- there are two of your favorites left.
Nora: What in the world--
Matthew: Hey, Mom. You're late.
Nora: Yes, apparently so. Because this -- what I -- what are you -- this has to stop.
Blair: Hey, sweetie. I got your dinner warming right here -- lasagna, your favorite.
Starr: Mom, I'm -- I'm not hungry.
Blair: Did you eat already?
Starr: No, I have no appetite.
Blair: Are you feeling sick?
Starr: Yeah, you know what? I am -- I am sick of living here, I'm sick of missing Dad, but I am finally going to do something about Dad now!
Blair: What do you mean by that?
Miles: Ah. Well, our first family dinner together. I thought it went well. Didn't you?
Marty: It was very pleasant.
Miles: Yes -- except for the fact that Cole didn't say three words to me.
Marty: Let him be, Miles.
Starr: Cole, my dad is in a lot of trouble right now, obviously. And my mom, for a lot of reasons, thinks that Miles Laurence knows how to find him. And if you could find out something -- anything -- it would mean the world to me.
Cole: So, now that we're home, why don't we do something fun?
Miles: What do you have in mind, Cole?
Cole: Oh, I don't know -- we could play, um, 20 questions.
Miles: I've never played it. What are the rules?
Cole: No rules, really. You just think about something or someone, and then I ask you 20 questions to try to get some clues and try to figure out what you're hiding.
Cole: Yeah, yeah, hiding. So, why don't you think of something -- or someone?
Miles: Um -- ok, I have it.
Cole: Great. So here's my first question -- have you ever been to Chicago?
John: I'm listening -- what do you know about Truman's murder?
Dorian: Well, if you would just use your imagination --
John: Spit it out, Dorian. What do you got?
Dorian: I know who killed Spencer Truman, and it wasn't David Vickers.
John: He confessed.
Dorian: David is a very skillful liar -- as you well know. The way I see it, you can settle for a conviction, or you can get the truth.
John: Why would Vickers take the fall for something he didn't do? Now, I don't know David as well as you do -- a fact I am eternally grateful for -- but I do know he wouldn't do this to help anyone out.
Dorian: You're being simplistic and judgmental.
John: Oh, am I? Well, I'll tell you what I also have to do. I'm trying to find whoever bombed the damn hospital, and I don't need some 11th-hour ploy to try to get Vickers' case reopened.
Dorian: If you would just open your mind, you would realize that David would do just about anything as long as he was paid the right price.
Dorian: No, thank you.
John: Ok, what good does money do you when you're in prison?
Dorian: He took a deferred payment.
John: Translate that.
Dorian: He pled guilty in exchange for a lighter sentence. Once he gets out of jail, he is going to be a very rich man. As far as David is concerned, a few years in Statesville Prison -- well, it's well worth it -- to earn $10 million.
Miles: No, I've never been to Chicago.
Cole: Not ever?
Marty: Cole --
Cole: What's wrong, Mom? I mean, don't you want to know more about your new husband? It's not like you know Miles much better than I do.
Miles: Yeah, that is disrespectful, Cole.
Cole: It's the truth.
Miles: Look, your mother and I are very excited about our future together. We would both like it if you'd be a part of that.
Cole: And if I don't like it, what, am I supposed to just leave?
Marty: No. Of course not. Miles, tell him.
Cole: Hey, you know what? You don't want me here, and I don't blame you, because I know that you're a fake and a fraud and I'm going to do whatever it takes to prove it.
Miles: I will not be spoken to that way, I am your stepfather.
Cole: On paper -- and God knows I'm praying that won't last long.
Miles: Are you going to say anything?
Cole: Hey -- instead of telling her what to do, how about you answer another one of my questions? How much of whatever this is, this fake marriage, has to do with my mom's history with Todd Manning?
Antonio: I don't want to fight, Cris.
Cristian: You're right. You're right, I shouldn't have brought it up. But, hey, I take it as progress that you're not kicking my ass through that door.
Antonio: I'm really not up for that, either.
Cristian: I'm really happy you're feeling better, man. You really had me scared -- we were all scared. If you're ok, the rest is gravy.
Antonio: Yeah. Yeah -- for you. Me, I'm left picking up whatever pieces are left of my life. I don't even know where to start.
Cristian: You know, Antonio, Jessica was really, really worried about you.
Antonio: I'm sure.
Cristian: How do you feel about her now?
Antonio: Like I just spent the last four years of my life with a woman I didn't even know.
Nash: You know, I'm not so sure that seeing Antonio is such a good idea.
Clint: Honey, I don't think you're well enough to be up and about.
Jessica: Well, I'm alive today because Antonio put his life on the line and almost lost it. I want to see him.
Nash: He might not want to see you.
Jessica: Well, he might not. I'll have to deal with that. But I just -- I just have to look him in the eye and thank him for what he did for me, for saving my life -- I owe him that. I owe him everything. So are you guys going to help me get a wheelchair, or am I going to have to do it myself?
Matthew: Mom, what's wrong?
Nora: Oh. "What's wrong" -- look at this, look at this! What, you're being -- sitting here, you're -- you're being treated like some little prince!
Renee: Nora, we are merely having hot chocolate.
Nora: From a silver tea set provided by a butler -- no, no offense. I mean, what are you doing? Getting waited on hand and foot here!
Matthew: Well, don't be mad at Nigel and Renee.
Nora: Oh, I'm not mad at them -- oh, I'm not mad. I'm not mad at you, I'm really not. I mean, you're two of the most generous, big-hearted people I've ever met, really, truly, but this is ridiculous. Where are we? I mean, it's like we're in Buckingham Palace. All we need are those little dogs running around with the stubby little legs and no one would know the difference.
Nigel: Never mind. I'm sorry we've upset you. I'll go and see if we have paper cups in the kitchen.
Nora: No, no, no, no, no. No, stop -- a paper cup. It's not the tea set, it's not that. It's just, it -- oh, I just -- I want our life back and I can't get our life back until we find the arsonist and we can't find the arsonist. The insurance company won't pay out unless I can prove that I didn't set fire to my own house, and it all comes back to we have to find out who did and we're not catching this guy.
Matthew: It's going to be ok, Mom.
Nora: I just want our life back. That's all, I just want our life.
Nash: Well, you're looking better than you did earlier. I'm glad.
Antonio: I've said everything I have to say, Nash.
Nash: Yeah. Uh -- Jessica wants to come talk to you. Doctors gave her permission to come here for a couple of minutes, her dad is pushing her here now. I just wanted to make sure you'd allow it, because if you won't allow it, I could head them off at the pass.
Antonio: I don't want to hear anything she has to say.
Nash: I think she wants to thank you.
Antonio: Yeah, well, I don't want any gratitude, not from her or anybody. Right now, I just want to get out of here and get back to work and take care of my daughter.
Nash: Was that a yes or a no?
[Knock on door]
Jessica: Can I have a few minutes alone with Antonio, please?
Clint: All right, I'll have Nash bring you back. Honey, I'm going to go home and check on your grandpa, ok?
Clint: Antonio, I'm glad you're better.
Nash: I'll be outside.
Jessica: I know that you -- you don't want to see me. But I -- I had to come and see you. I just -- I wanted to make sure that you're ok. And I thought that maybe we could talk for a little while.
Starr: Well, I've been --
Starr: Going on the Internet and looking at websites to see if I could help find Dad.
Blair: What kind of websites?
Starr: Well, there's, you know, the missing persons sites and --
Starr: Um, the police department logs. And they have this thing where if people forget who they are and wander around, sometimes you can, like -- you can claim them on the website.
Starr: There's been a lot of different things that I've found.
Blair: Did you find anything out?
Starr: No, but -- but at least I'm trying, right?
Blair: Yeah, yeah. It's great.
Starr: Yeah. It -- it can't hurt, right?
Blair: No. You know what? I found out something today, something that kind of proves that Miles Laurence is up to something.
Starr: Yeah -- what?
Blair: It's probably going to be around school anyway, so I'm going to go and tell you. Get this -- Miles Laurence married Marty Saybrooke, right out of the blue. They went off to Vegas and got hitched.
Starr: Wow, that's crazy. She doesn't seem like the type.
Blair: No. She's not, which means there's more to it than meets the eye.
Marty: Sweetie, why would you bring up Todd Manning, of all people?
Cole: Because the reason Starr's dad went to Chicago and is now missing is this guy. He gave Mr. Manning some bogus clue about his son, and that clue came from -- Spencer Truman.
Miles' voice: You have two choices, Marty. You give yourself up and your freedom and your son, or you marry me and everybody wins.
Marty: The police have already questioned Miles, and they are satisfied that there's no connection between Todd's disappearance and the tip that Miles gave him. Don't you think we have enough to deal with right now without bringing Starr's family into it?
Cole: Oh, yeah. We have enough to deal with all right, because the more I think about it, the more I'm sure that the only way this guy got you to marry him is by threatening you with something, and you two are going to stop lying to me and tell me what that could be.
Miles: Why don't you tell your son the truth, Marty?
John: You know, I almost buy Vickers doing a murder-for-hire. Slicing up his own brother, though?
Dorian: David agreed to kill his brother. Somebody else beat him to it.
John: And he confessed anyway to get the payoff.
John: Payable upon his release from prison.
Dorian: Yeah, and knowing David, he probably got his benefactor to put the money in an offshore, interest-bearing account. That way, it would be worth even more once he was released.
John: How very savvy of him.
Dorian: Hmm. I taught him everything he knows.
John: And now, you're here to turn in the person who hired him.
Dorian: This is about justice. There is a killer running around free, and although I personally think that person did the world a great favor, I simply couldn't live with myself if I let them get away with it.
John: Since when?
Dorian: I've changed. I'm in a relationship with Clint Buchanan and it's made me rethink my priorities.
John: Hey, that's nice. That's really nice. You know, I have a theory.
Dorian: Tell me what it is.
John: It's you.
Dorian: I beg your pardon?
John: It's you. You hired Vickers to kill Truman, and then when you found out he didn't do it, now you want a rebate.
Dorian: If I wanted Spencer dead that badly, I would've done it myself.
John: Either way -- if I find out you're behind this, you and Vickers will be comparing cells from now to the end of time.
Nash: So, really, how's Antonio doing? You talk to his doctors?
Cristian: Well, they think they have the infection under control.
Nash: How about the two of you?
Cristian: Well, he's not yelling at me or kicking me out of his room anymore, so I guess that's progress.
Nash: I am very sorry for having dragged you into the middle of Jessica and I.
Cristian: What's done is done. I mean, I still want to kick your ass from here to Pittsburgh, but what would be the point, right?
Nash: Wonder how they're doing in there.
Jessica: I'm alive because of you. And when I heard that you weren't doing well, it -- it broke my heart.
Jessica: I guess the only good thing that happened during the bombing is we both slept through it, right?
Antonio: You can sleep through anything -- earthquakes, hurricanes. Look. You saw me, I'm fine. You don't need to be guilty. Focus on taking care of yourself and getting stronger so you can take care of Bree.
Jessica: No. Antonio, I don't want to lose you. I'm worried about you.
Starr: How do you know about Marty and Miles?
Blair: Well, I was just at John's office and Miles walked in with this, like, stupid grin on his face and he told us, and then Marty walked in.
Starr: Well, how did she look? I mean, how was she acting?
Blair: She looked like a deer in headlights. And then he, of course, acted like he'd won the lottery.
Starr: I -- I don't get it. What does that have to do with Dad?
Blair: Well, I'm not sure yet, but, I mean, it's kind of a bizarro marriage, don't you think? Just another piece of the Miles Laurence puzzle as far as I'm concerned. Guess Cole's probably shocked.
Starr: Oh -- yeah, probably.
Blair: Hmm, mm-hmm. Don't you get any ideas -- I see those wheels spinning there in your head right there.
Starr: Mom, are you kidding me? I don't talk to him anymore. The only time I see him in school is when Britney is leading him around with her rhinestone leash.
Blair: Ok. Well, we'll just keep it that way, because I don't want this to be your cue to go help him. Got it?
Starr: It's not.
Blair: Ok. I just want to be clear with you. Hey, bud. Well, what's -- what's wrong? Why are you out of bed?
Jack: I had a bad dream.
Blair: About what?
Jack: Dad. He called me on the phone. He said he was never coming back.
Blair: Oh. All right, it's all right.
Spencer: Hello, Todd. Surprised to see me? What, no love for the good doctor? Oh, I should be hurt, Todd. But you're obviously already hurting enough for the both of us. [Spencer chuckles] Yeah, they said you had nine lives, but it doesn't really matter because I'll still win. Whereas you may have nine lives, Todd, I have 10.
Marty: Miles is going to give us a good life. That's all.
Miles: Cole, I understand that this has been a shock and -- and for that, I'm truly sorry. And I hope you know that I will never try to be a replacement for your father.
Cole: What? That would never happen no matter what you tried.
Miles: I -- I just want to ask you for a chance. Maybe you'll like me in time. Cole, I want you to know that I love your mother will all of my heart, and I would move heaven and earth to make the two of you happy. I never had a family or a home. Thanks to your mother, it may not be too late. Well, I -- I guess the next thing to discuss is where we're going to live.
Dorian: If David needed money, I would give it to him freely. I wouldn't exact a murder for it. And I certainly wouldn't come here, confess and throw myself on your mercy.
John: Why are you here?
Dorian: Because I cannot stand to see an innocent man rotting away in prison.
John: Well, it took you long enough to come forward.
Dorian: That's because I didn't know who the real killer was until now. Do you want to know or not?
John: Oh, this ought to be rich.
Dorian: You're not going to be so complacent when you find out who it is.
John: Why is that?
Dorian: Because you know her.
Dorian: Marty Saybrooke. She's the homicidal maniac who stabbed Spencer Truman to death.
John: Marty Saybrooke? How the hell did you come up with that one?
Dorian: David told me.
John: David told you? The man who lied about killing someone for money told you who the real murderer was?
Dorian: Marty Saybrooke told him so herself a couple of days ago.
John: Marty went to see Vickers?
Dorian: Yes. She wanted to know why he would confess to a crime he did not commit. How would she know that unless she knew who the real killer was herself?
John: I tell you, this has been the strangest day.
Dorian: Does that mean you believe me?
John: It means I'll look into it.
Dorian: I came to you because you're very smart and you're very good at what you do. And no matter what the crime or who the guilty party is, you will always do the right thing. And I know you are not going to allow an innocent man to rot in prison.
John: But it's Vickers.
Dorian: I don't care what you do to Marty Saybrooke. But please, get David out of that hellhole before something happens to him.
Cole: This is our home, mine and my mom's.
Miles: Although I did consider getting a larger suite at the palace, I realized that, so I thought better of it.
Cole: I'm not moving.
Miles: I'll get my bag.
Cole: Whew. This is so not right.
Marty: I'm going to go clear some space in the closet.
Blair: Hey -- hey, it was just a bad dream, ok? Because your daddy -- he's ok, and he's going to come back. You know that, right? And he loves you and he misses you with all of his heart. You know that, right? [Phone rings] Oh. So come on, buddy. Let's put you to bed.
Starr: Hey, what is it?
Cole: I tried to get some stuff out of Miles about your dad. It's not going to be easy.
Starr: Don't give up, ok?
Cole: I won't. I promise.
Starr: Thank you. Really.
Cole: Hey, Starr, wait. Don't hang up yet, please.
Boy: Well, what do you know? You ain't dead yet.
Nigel: Master Matthew, would you like to challenge me to a karaoke sing-off? I've been practicing "my humps" all day.
Matthew: You're on.
Renee: Oh. Oh, ho, ho, ho. I am -- I wouldn't miss this for all the tea in china. I'll see you a little later.
Nora: I'll be down to join you in -- in a minute.
Nora: Oh, my gosh.
Clint: Hey, Nora.
Clint: Where is everybody?
Nora: Hi, Clint. They're -- they're upstairs practicing "my humps."
Nora: Never mind. How's Jessica?
Clint: Oh, yeah. She's -- she's better, knock wood. [Clint knocks on table] is Antonio. Ahem -- for a while there, it was a little dicey. Jessica was talking to Antonio when I left the hospital.
Jessica: I don't want to lose you as a part of my life, as my friend.
Antonio: We're not friends, Jess. We never really were.
Jessica: That's not true.
Antonio: Just what do you want me to say? "So you slept with a guy, let's not let it affect our friendship"?
Jessica: So you're right. You have no reason to want anything to do with me.
Antonio: Huh. We wouldn't even be having this conversation if you hadn't gotten sick. You would have been off with Nash, starting your life over. And I would have been starting over. Would have been a clean break. We don't share a child.
Jessica: No, that's not true. Jamie means the world to me.
Antonio: It would be too confusing for her to keep seeing you.
Jessica: I miss her so much. Ok. Ok. Fine, I understand. But like it or not, I have a part of you inside of me that's keeping me alive. You risked your life to save me, and that links us forever. So we're going to have to find a way to deal with that.
Antonio: So you think we'll have some kind of emotional connection because you have a part of my liver?
Jessica: Is that so far-fetched?
Antonio: Yes. The transplant is over. So are we.
Jessica: Ok, but with time --
Antonio: All I can hope for is that this hurts a little less.
Jessica: I told you I loved you before the surgery.
Antonio: You said that because you thought you were dying, wanted a clean slate.
Jessica: No. I meant it. I tried to make our marriage work, I swear I tried. I'm a different person now, though. And there'll always be a part of me that loves you.
Antonio: Yeah. I love you. I just don't like you.
Starr: My mom knows about your mom and Miles.
Cole: I'm sure the whole town knows by now. I wouldn't put it past the guy to take an ad out in the paper.
Starr: Is he there now?
Cole: Oh, yeah. Yeah, we just had our first family dinner together.
Cole: Yeah. It gets worse -- he's moving in.
Starr: Cole, I am so sorry.
Cole: My mom has lost her mind. But she swears she knows what she's doing.
Starr: That's what all crazy people say.
Cole: I don't know, I just can't seem to get through to her. But I'll keep trying to get some information about your dad. At least I'm doing something.
Starr: Cole, you don't owe me anything, you know that.
Cole: It's not about owing. I'll -- I'll call you again, if -- if that's ok with you?
Starr: Yeah, it's ok.
Marty: Everything ok?
Cole: No. Nothing is ok.
Marty: Sweetie, I wish -- God, I wish I could make this easier for you.
Cole: You can -- stop lying to me and tell me -- tell me why you married a guy you hardly know.
Marty: Someday you will understand.
Cole: "Someday." Well, that doesn't do me any good now, does it?
Miles' voice: Marty Saybrooke is now my lawfully wedded wife.
Marty: I know how this must look. It was all very sudden. I don't know how to begin, but I -- I know you're the person I have to tell because you're going to -- you'll know what needs to be done.
Jessica: Ok, I don't expect you to like me. But I don't want to be the reason that you leave your home and your family and your friends. I don't want to see you go.
Antonio: What you want doesn't matter anymore. Only Jamie does. I realize this is her home. You've hurt her enough. I'm not going to let you drive her away from everything, everyone she knows.
Jessica: That's -- that's good.
Antonio: You're dead to her, Jess. I'm not going to allow you to damage her any more.
Jessica: I -- I still love you both so much.
Antonio: You know I hear those words but they have no meaning?
Jessica: I know.
Antonio: Not anymore.
Jessica: I know.
Antonio: I look at you, I see the woman I fell in love with. Then I realize she's gone -- and I miss her.
Blair: Well, I got your brother back to sleep. Hey -- we're going to find your dad, all right? Ok? You want something to eat? I'll get it for you.
Blair: Is that your phone?
Starr: Uh --
Blair: Or is it mine?
Starr: Yeah -- no, it -- it's mine. It's -- it's Langston.
Boy: Guy was right about you -- you just don't want to die.
Miles: Where's Cole?
Marty: In his room.
Miles: Sulking, I'm sure.
Marty: And that amuses you?
Miles: Oh, no, I just -- I think he's a typical teenager.
Marty: He's not a "typical" anything. He is a great kid. He is sensitive and he is intelligent, which is why he knows this entire marriage is a sham.
Miles: He'll adjust, and I'll help him with that. I meant it when I said I wanted a son. Marty, I'm sorry the way things worked out. But I love you, and I'm going to spend the rest of my life proving it to you. Everything's going to be fine. It's all going to work out.
Marty: Why are you smiling?
Miles: It's our wedding night. I can't wait to make love to my wife.
Clint: Feeling better?
Nora: Chocolate always works that way, it does. Mmm. No offense -- I don't want Matthew getting used to this.
Clint: Nora, I understand that, but may I remind you of something? Matthew has got a good head on his shoulders.
Nora: He's not even a teenager yet, Clint.
Clint: That young man has lived four or five lifetimes, you know. Matthew's going to turn out just right. You and Bo have a way of bringing him back to earth.
Nora: Yeah, you're right. It's just -- it's pretty grand around here, you know -- a lot of family and fun -- and I'm just afraid he's going to like living here so much, he's not going to want to come back to the simple life with me.
Nigel: I tried to stop her, I suspect you know of whom I speak.
Dorian: Oh -- excuse me. [Dorian laughs] Thank you, Nigel.
Dorian: I -- I'm sorry. Am I interrupting something?
Clint: Oh, of course not.
Dorian: I should've called first. I beg your pardon.
Nora: I'm -- I'm actually going to head up, I'm a little tired.
Dorian: But, Nora, you look wonderful.
Nora: Thank you, Dorian.
Dorian: I'll call you, and we'll have lunch soon.
Nora: Ok. That would be great, I'd like that.
Nora: Excuse me.
Dorian: Oh, of course.
Clint: Good night, Nora. Is everything ok?
Dorian: Actually, it isn't. Clint, I heard something very upsetting and I wanted to tell you about it before it became public knowledge.
Clint: All right. What is it?
Dorian: Asa hired David to kill Spencer Truman.
John: Yeah, this is Detective John McBain with the Llanview P.D. Look, um, I was told that Inmate 14073, David Vickers, had a couple visitors recently, and I know one of them was Dorian Lord. I didn't get the name of the second visitor. Can you check that for me? Thanks. [John hums] Saybrooke, first name Marty? Thanks. No, that -- hey -- actually, do me a favor. Get Vickers into the visiting room. Yes, tonight. I know it's late, but I need to speak to him tonight. Thank you.
On the next "One Life to Live" –
Tate: You're not suspicious of me now, are you?
Miles: I'm going to make you happy in every way.
Marty: What are you going to do -- rape me?
John: I know you're lying, Vickers.
