Rex: Spencer shot himself in the chest to avoid the loony bin. Why would you believe anything he says?
Michael: Answer the question, Rex. Do you know anything about Tommy's birth parents?
Rex: The guy is nuts -- certifiable. He -- he's headed to the nut house, like, today.
Michael: Tell me about my son!
Spencer: Oh, yeah.
Mark: You -- you lied --
Spencer: All right, just take it easy. I know, I'm sorry.
Mark: About everything.
Marty: Hi, I'm Dr. Truman's psychiatrist. We've met before. I'm sure I'm on the list.
Guard: Well, you know, Truman's lawyer might be having a confidential discussion with him. You're welcome to wait if you want.
Marty: It's important that I see him.
Viki: What's wrong?
Todd: You need to help me come up with a plan to make Blair marry me.
Viki: Make Blair marry you?
Viki: You can't force her.
Todd: Well, I want it now, because I'm not giving up until I get her back.
Dorian: Hello. Oh, you look beautiful.
Blair: Oh, you're a liar.
Dorian: I am not a liar. You look beautiful because it's beautiful having you back with us. Now, then, I brought you some presents I know that you're really going to need -- a nice, trashy romance novel. I know you're in the mood for one, and just to make sure you're in the mood, how about some chocolate -- your favorite kind?
Blair: Spoil me, Dorian.
Dorian: You deserve to be spoiled and I intend to see that you are happy for the rest of your life. It's ok, honey. Just let it go. We're all feeling kind of emotional.
Blair: No, it's not that. I broke up with Todd.
Dorian: Oh, no. I do not think that's a good idea.
Natalie: I'm sorry about before.
John: Hey, you know, just forget about it.
Natalie: I realize you're frustrated that your physical therapy is not making you --
John: It's not about that.
Natalie: Then what's it about?
John: Things between us aren't working out.
Natalie: Ok, so what are we going to do about it?
John: Maybe one of us should move out.
Rex: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. No offense, but I think some of Spencer's craziness is rubbing off on you.
Michael: I'm sorry. I mean, this guy's just gotten under my skin, you know?
Rex: Yeah, well, he's good at that -- world-class.
Michael: You still didn't answer my question.
Rex: Look, I -- I can't believe you're even asking it.
Michael: Truman could've named over a half a dozen other people in connection with Tommy, but he didn't. He named you. Why?
Rex: I think I know what's going on here.
Michael: Oh, why don't you enlighten me because my imagination is taking me all kinds of places that I don't want to go.
Spencer: You greet all of your patients that way? No wonder you diagnosed me with paranoid tendencies.
Marty: I haven't seen you since you threatened to kill me. The guard said your lawyer would be in here.
Spencer: Mark Casey -- yes. Mr. Casey -- "Casey at the bat. But there will be no joy in Mudville tonight," no, siree.
Marty: I have no idea what you're talking about, Spencer.
Spencer: Oh, you will.
Marty: If you hadn't have shot yourself, you wouldn't be in pain.
Spencer: Says the doctor to her patient, hmm?
Marty: I'm not your doctor anymore.
Spencer: Is that because I held a gun to your head?
Marty: That would be one of the reasons.
Spencer: Well, don't take it personally. I mean, if I wanted you dead, I would've killed you. I was kind of hoping we could still be friends.
Marty: We were never friends, Spencer.
Spencer: Well, if we're not friends, then -- Ahem -- you're no longer my doctor. What right do you have to be here?
Marty: I have a right to confront my attacker.
Spencer: And I have the right to decline visitors, don't I? I'll have to talk to my attorney about that or maybe I should just kill him, too, huh? I mean, after all, what's one less lawyer in the world? You know, if you really took all of the patients that I've saved through my illustrious medical career and juxtaposed those to the number of patients that I've supposedly assisted up the stairway to heaven --
Marty: Spencer, what are you talking about? What have you done?
Viki: So, I take it you proposed to her?
Todd: Yeah, and she said no.
Viki: And when did you do that?
Todd: Right after she regained consciousness. Yeah, I know -- I should've waited. I couldn't wait. Once again, you're right and I'm wrong.
Viki: Yeah. I told you she needs time.
Todd: But she didn't say no just until she gets better. She was saying no for forever.
Viki: With you and Blair, nothing is forever.
Dorian: Admittedly, Todd has never been one of my favorite people.
Blair: Huh -- really? You know, I -- I never noticed that before.
Dorian: Blair, you were about to die. A priest was called. Don't make jokes.
Dorian: Nobody fought harder than Todd to keep you alive. I mean, the doctors were telling us to say our goodbyes to you and he refused.
Blair: I heard his voice.
Dorian: And did you hear Addie's?
Blair: It was like I was dreaming.
Dorian: Well, Todd was the one who brought her here to the hospital, because he knew it would be good for her and it would be good for you.
Blair: He still surprises me.
Dorian: He surprises me, too. Honey, you know, my -- my hatred of Rex just about caused me to lose Adriana. My hatred of Kevin pretty much forced Kelly to move to London with her baby so she could be with Kevin and then, of course, there's my sad history with Cassie and -- you know, I've pretty much had a talent for pushing the people I love away.
Blair: Dorian, it's not the same, ok? I don't want Todd in my life.
Dorian: Oh. You're not being truthful.
Blair: No, I -- we're not good for each other, Dorian, and you've always said that. You've always understood that.
Dorian: What about the children? Don't -- don't they deserve to have two parents?
Blair: They have two parents. We just won't be under the same roof, that's all.
Dorian: After everything you've done to get him back? Honey, you love each other.
Blair: Dorian? Love is not enough -- you know that. You learned that with David and now I've learned that with Todd.
Blair: No, Dorian, I'm protecting myself.
Dorian: And Starr and jack.
Blair: Todd has always been a wonderful father. But as a husband, he's poison.
Natalie: I just want you to be better. You just want to be stubborn.
John: You're just as stubborn, and between the two of us, it's getting pretty damn annoying.
Natalie: Well, I don't know what else to do.
John: Well, that's why maybe one of us should leave.
Natalie: Who's going to take -- who's going to take care of you?
John: I can take care of myself.
Natalie: That's where you're wrong.
John: Hey, that's not helping.
Natalie: Fine. Ok, fine, you don't want me? I'll -- I'll pack my stuff and --
John: Hey -- don't take it that way.
Natalie: Really? Well what way am I to take it, John? You don't want my help, which means you don't want me, so I'll go. But I'm not coming back.
Todd: If Spencer Truman was dead, none of this would've happened. Blair and I would be living happily ever after right now.
Viki: He's not dead, ok, and thoughts can't kill, thank god.
Todd: The second that son of a bitch came to town, I knew he was trouble. I should've done something then.
Viki: You didn't. So stop thinking about the past. Think about what you can do now.
Todd: That's all I think about, Viki. She still said no. And if there's one thing I've learned in my pathetic, miserable excuse for a life, it's when a woman says no, you better stay away, even if you know she's wrong. I just -- I still love her, so much.
Viki: Then there's only one thing you can do.
Rex: Truman killed your dad. And then you performed surgery on him to save him. He's not stupid -- he knows that messed you up. He's -- he's just digging the knife deeper, for kicks.
Michael: Why bring you into the mix? It's a little random, don't you think?
Rex: Maybe he knows I'm Tommy's Godfather. He used me to make you nuts. Obviously, he succeeded.
Michael: I don't believe you.
Rex: Michael, that really hurt --
Michael: Enough, Rex. You're lying. Now tell me why.
John: Now you want to break up?
Natalie: No. But I don't want to leave you to self-destruct. I can't -- I can't live with that. You don't understand -- I walk in here every single day wondering if I'm going to find you dead or I'm going to have to take you back to that hospital and watch you die right in front of me. My God, do you honestly think that I want to be a nagging little bitch all the time? I can't even love you the way I want to. It's too risky. And I need to survive. So if I go, that's it. We're done.
John: You know how I feel about ultimatums, Natalie.
Natalie: God. John, my back is up against the wall. I -- I just -- I want things to be the way they were before.
John: Well, the 18-wheeler that plowed over me made that kind of difficult.
Natalie: So what do we do? Huh? We just -- we just split up and go our separate ways?
John: The problem is you do whatever you want when you want to.
Natalie: God -- so do you!
John: Well, that's why we're having this conversation.
Natalie: Fine. What changes?
John: I think you mean who changes.
Natalie: I thought you did when you told me that you loved me.
John: I don't know how to answer that.
Natalie: Ok. Then let me say it for you. You either let me help you with your recovery, or you go back to being your old self and you do it by yourself.
John: You and I have different definitions of "help." In the mirror, John -- past the scars and the history and the doubts. And then maybe you'll find the person that's worth loving, because that's the person I want to share my life with.
Spencer: You know what I've done, Dr. Saybrooke. That's why you labeled me "loony" -- remember?
Marty: And nothing you have done since has changed my mind.
Spencer: Is that why you came down here? To reassure yourself that you made the correct diagnosis?
Marty: I came down here to let you know that your attempt on my life hasn't hurt me, not as much as it's hurt you.
Spencer: Yet I'm still here. You nearly kill yourself and you almost killed me. No, you see, I'm walking out of here. When you leave, it will be in chains. How's that boy of yours anyway? Hum? Cole, is it? Cole Thornhart -- such a great name, handsome boy. You know, I know he's not Todd's, yet they seem so much alike.
Marty: Cole is nothing like Todd!
Spencer: But he attacked Todd's daughter, did he not? Such poetic justice, Marty. I --
Marty: Just shut up!
Spencer: You know what? Starr is also Blair's and nobody takes advantage of Blair or her children, not as long as I'm alive. You understand?
Marty: Starr is fine. Nothing happened.
Spencer: Good. Because if it does, you could lose everything that's
Marty: Is that a threat?
Spencer: Just a simple statement of fact, a comment on how fleeting and fragile life is. John McBain knows all about that. He managed to cheat death once. I doubt he'll be so lucky next time.
Marty: Your problem, Dr. Truman, is that your luck has run out.
Spencer: Pretty pathetic prognosis, princess. Thanks for stopping by!
Guard: Dr. Saybrooke?
Marty: You know, Spencer's lawyer wasn't in there, so you need to pay better attention to your prisoners.
Spencer: Just be patient, Blair, I haven't forgotten you.
Michael: Rex, you have to tell me what's going on.
Michael: Look me in the eye and tell me nothing.
Rex: Nothing is going on.
Michael: Whatever it is, it's huge, and you're terrified of telling me the truth.
Rex: I told you the truth! Truman is whacked out and he's bringing you down with him -- how can you not see that by now?
Michael: Patients lie to me every day. You don't even rate in the top 1o.
Rex: What do you want me to say?
Michael: How about the truth? Think about Tommy, think about Marcie, and I think about how much we love him.
Rex: Hey, I do every day!
Michael: Then if Spencer knows something and you know what it is, you have to tell me because I am going to find out one way or the other.
Rex: You won't find out anything.
Michael: I'll go and ask Truman again. I don't care how crazy he is -- I'll beat it out of him.
Rex: All right -- I found out who Tommy's birth father is.
Marty: Sorry I didn't call first.
John: What's up?
Marty: Um -- can I --
John: Yeah, yeah.
Marty: Thanks. Where's Natalie?
John: She -- she told me what she said to you.
Marty: Huh. Well, you can see I listened very well.
John: Mm-hmm. You ok? What's wrong?
Marty: I -- I went and saw Spencer.
John: One last sanity check?
Marty: I wanted to tell him that I wasn't a victim and that he didn't ruin my life.
John: Which he -- which he did anyway.
Marty: He threatened my son.
John: You go to the PD?
Marty: No. I'm here talking to you because he also brought your name up.
John: Oh, yeah? What'd the little weasel say?
Marty: He said you might not be so lucky the next time you came face-to-face with death.
John: Hmm. And I could say the same to him.
Marty: Look, John, I just wanted to come here to tell you to be careful, ok?
John: He should be in Statesville or a grave.
Marty: No -- no, he shouldn't, ok? You haven't seen him. He is completely insane.
John: No, he's not. He's evil, and there's no cure for that, doc. You either jail it or you kill it.
Todd: Ok, lay it on me. What do I do?
Viki: It's actually very simple, but you're not going to like it.
Todd: All right, I'll take my chances.
Viki: Forcing Blair into anything is not the answer, ok?
Todd: No, of course not. You can't force that woman to do anything she doesn't want to do.
Viki: Exactly. I'm convinced she still loves you and I think underneath it all, she still wants to marry you.
Todd: All right. What do I do?
Viki: Don't take no for an answer.
Todd: I didn't.
Viki: Then what are you doing here?
Todd: So I'm just supposed to go back there on bended knee? takes, yeah. She needs to know what's in your heart.
Todd: Hmm. She does.
Viki: No, she does not. You have spent your entire life walling up your feelings. She knows that.
Todd: That's part of my charm.
Viki: Yeah, I'd call it something else. Don't you see --. T you need to tell her that you won't hurt her again, and you need to make damn sure you don't. And another thing. It's not just what it's how you say it, ok? It has to come from your heart, it has to be in your eyes.
Todd: Ok. Thank you.
Michael: When Marcie and I asked, you said you didn't know anything.
Rex: I did some research.
Michael: You said the documents were sealed.
Rex: They were.
Michael: Then how --
Rex: Back door.
Michael: It's illegal.
Rex: It's Todd. Tommy's father is Todd manning.
Michael: Tommy is Todd's son? No. That's impossible.
Rex: I wish it were.
Michael: When did you find this out?
Rex: A while ago.
Michael: How did you find this out?
Rex: I was tracking Todd's kid. Spencer gave him to an adoption lawyer who died in the tornado. But I got his records and I matched them up with the records that you and Marcie gave me when you asked me to find Tommy's birth parents.
Michael: For his medical history.
Rex: I didn't want to tell you. Every time I saw you guys with Tommy, saw how much you loved him, I couldn't tell you the truth. But then, looking at Todd's kids and seeing the hell that they've been through just for being his -- it didn't seem fair, to anyone.
Michael: But Spencer knew?
Rex: Obviously, he kept track of him. Because everything that bastard does is just some kind of move.
Michael: He didn't say anything all these months.
Rex: At first, I don't think he wanted Todd to ever find his son. It was the last bit of power Truman had over him.
Michael: Now he's facing life in an institution. He's feeling cornered.
Rex: And crazy.
Michael: Is Margaret Cochran Tommy's birth mother?
Rex: Afraid so.
Michael: Oh. When you said she had a history of mental illness, oh --
Rex: I'm sorry. I -- I never wanted to tell you. But I figured it was better coming from me than Truman because he's vicious enough to go straight to Marcie.
Michael: How do I tell her? This is going to kill her.
Rex: Don't tell her. Nobody has to know that Tommy is Todd's son, ever.
Todd: What did you do, Dorian?
Blair: Nothing, Todd. It was me and I al.
Dorian: Sweetheart, I'm going to go get the nurse and have her give you a sedative --
Dorian: Because I think you need some rest.
Todd: Hold on. I want to talk to you.
Dorian: Todd? I need to talk to you outside, hmm?
Blair: It's over. It's over, it's over. It's got to be over.
Todd: What is it, Dorian?
Viki: Oh, baby, I'm so sorry.
Natalie: Mom, I just keep replaying these fights that we had over and over again in my head and I just -- I can't seem to figure out what I did that caused it.
Viki: I know that I was awful to Ben. I pushed him away as hard as I could when I find out I had cancer and I made all of you crazy with the heart transplant.
Natalie: No, mom, you definitely didn't drive anyone crazy. John, on the other hand --
Viki: Baby, he's very proud.
Natalie: You know, I just -- I want to help him. But all he wants to do is fight me every step of the way.
Viki: Let me ask you something. Is he fighting you or is he fighting your help?
Natalie: I thought they were the same thing.
Viki: No. No. Oh. Baby, you love with your whole heart, and that's the way it should be. But John can't be told what to do.
Natalie: Yeah, but he's not -- he won't take care of himself.
Viki: He's a grownup. And even if he should, he wouldn't listen to you.
Natalie: Thank you.
Viki: Yeah. He loves you, sweetheart. He may not love you in the same way that you love him, but I expect it's just as powerful.
Natalie: Ok. Wish me luck.
Viki: Oh. Oh, my honey. Always, always, always, always. Oh.
John: Oh, wake up. He almost killed you!
Marty: Yeah, I know, and that is a part of it, but his -- insanity, it's -- it's not It's just -- it's just not something I have ever experienced.
Officer: Hey, I thought you were gone.
Todd: Are you rooting for my team?
Dorian: When I finally saw your devotion to my niece.
Todd: And this is news to you?
Dorian: You haven't exactly been a supportive partner to her over the last few months or even years.
Todd: Yeah, I've been stupid.
Dorian: Hmm -- you're not going to get an argument from me on that.
Todd: So what changed for you? Dorian: When she was so sick, you willed her back to life.
Dorian: No, no, no, no. Just, just -- just -- Blair doesn't work well with pressure. She doesn't like it and she's exhausted right now. She needs some rest and -- and then you can talk to her, ok? So, please, just let me go get the nurse and get her a sedative, ok? I'll be right back.
Rex: Michael, I am really sorry. I have nightmares about this.
Michael: That bastard. He knew. He knew the whole time and he laughed at us.
Rex: It doesn't matter. As far as I'm concerned, Tommy is with his real parents.
Michael: Who else knows?
Rex: Adriana, but she's not going to say anything. She knows what's at stake.
Michael: What about Spencer? I mean, how do we make sure he doesn't talk?
John: I mean, your psych talk means nothing to me. The bottom line is this guy shouldn't be walking around.
Marty: You know, I was so proud of myself for facing him down, but, yeah, I guess I should know you can't get the upper hand with a sociopath.
John: You want the upper hand? You lock him up, you throw away the key.
Marty: Yeah, well, we're just going to have to agree to disagree.
John: For what purpose?
Marty: Are you still angry with me because I didn't tell you who I was when we first met?
John: I'm angry at you for telling the judge Truman was insane.
Marty: Ok, fine. You know what? You could be angry with me, but would you let a felon walk the streets if you --
John: You know something, lady? As a cop, I don't have the luxury of playing hypothetical games with people's lives. This is about justice for all.
Marty: Mm-hmm, right. Whose justice? Hmm. You know, you don't have much respect for me, do you?
John: As a shrink? No. But I do owe you, you know? You stopped me from killing Truman and you kept your mouth shut. For that, I'll always be grateful.
Marty: Well, like I told you, it was because of the drugs -- medication you were taking and then the heavy doses, taking yourself off cold turkey. You were just as mentally unstable as Spencer was.
John: Oh, no, I wanted him dead. I still do.
Marty: Hmm. Well, I think you're going to have to get in line. Did you tell Natalie?
John: Uh -- about the incident with Truman? Yeah. About your involvement? No.
Marty: Why not?
John: When it comes to this, I'm not so sure I can trust her anymore.
Rex: I'll take care of Spencer.
Rex: I'll figure something out.
Michael: And what am I supposed to do in the meantime?
Rex: Forget about everything we talked about today.
Michael: Yeah. No problem.
Rex: Ok. You have to try, mike -- for Marcie, for Tommy.
Michael: Rex, this is huge. Now, I can't just -- this is going to kill my wife.
Rex: That's why you have to keep quiet.
Michael: You mean lie, which might just kill me.
Rex: What are you going to do? Mike? Keep this quiet. Save your family, Michael.
Dorian: Give her time. She'll come back to you.
Todd: Yeah, that's what Viki said.
Dorian: Much as it pains me to admit it, sometimes we do think alike.
Todd: Hmm. And the world didn't come to an end?
Dorian: Hmm. Surprising, isn't it?
Todd: Not as surprising as you campaigning for me.
Dorian: I finally saw how much you do love her.
Nurse: She should sleep through the night now.
Dorian: Thank you. That's good news. Shall we?
Todd: All right.
On the next "One Life to Live" --
Spencer: Todd can't marry you. I found you first.
John: She wants me to change.
Marty: She said that?
Nash: Was it the Tess part or the Jessica part that wanted to kiss me?
Marcie: You better tell me the truth or I will get it out of Michael.
Michael: There's something I need to say to you.
