Bartender: Freshen that up for you?

Natalie: No, I'm good. I'm -- I'm just waiting for somebody.

Bartender: Looks like that someone's here now.

Natalie: Roxy, what are you doing here?

Roxy: What am I doing here? What are you doing here? No, scratch that -- I know what you're doing here. You're trying to hook up with some A.C. wiseguy who's going to tell you who popped John's dad, and I'm putting the brakes on that.

Kevin: You're Dr. Crosby?

Ed: Yes.

Kevin: I'm Kevin Buchanan. You work with my sister Jessica?

Ed: That's right.

Kevin: Yeah. My parents seem to be hopeful that you could be the one to integrate her.

Ed: Well, I'm going to try to give it my best shot. This is going to be a very long, tough road and a lot of it depends on Jessica.

Kevin: Yeah, well, I've been through this with my mother so --

Ed: Well, good.

Kevin: I kind of know what's what.

Ed: Good. If you'd like to talk about this anytime, I'm available. Or talk about anything else.

Kevin: Yeah, talking isn't going to really help what I'm going through.

Kelly: Well, thank you for dragging me to your kickboxing class.

Adriana: You were really into it.

Kelly: Hmm.

Adriana: I thought you were going to kill that bag.

Kelly: Well, I have a lot of frustration.

Adriana: What frustration?

Kelly: Oh, I just have a lot on my plate. So how are things with you and Rex?

Adriana: He's so amazing.

Kelly: Yeah, you seem happy. It's written all over you.

Adriana: We just connect, you know, not the way Duke and I did. I'm sorry. I don't mean to trash him.

Kelly: Oh, you guys didn't work out. Have any idea why?

Adriana: Always seemed like there was something holding us back, like we should be with other people, you know what I mean? Anyway, it's so different with Rex. He doesn't hold back at all. He's completely upfront and honest with me about everything.

Rex: Yeah, you watch. Commissioner will be down here any minute to let me go. You know, he's just teaching me a lesson. There's no way he's going to make this stick. You know, Bo and I are buds! We're friends.

[Cell door closes]

Rex: Yeah, we're friends.

Starr: Dad, you know about mom and Dr. Truman?

Todd: Oh, I know about mom and Dr. Truman I was up at the ski lodge, I saw them there -- ooh, man, they were together. They were together.

[Todd whistles]

Starr: So that's why he left the ring there. Not because he loved you, but because you betrayed him?

Blair: Look, Starr --

Todd: You see, it --

Blair: Why don't we go home and we'll talk about this, ok?

Starr: No, I'm not leaving.

Todd: This is what drove you all along, right? Huh?

Starr: Dad --

Todd: What, can't you look at me?

Starr: Dad!

Todd: Hey! Can't look at me, huh? I know what you did. I know what you did. You want my wife. You got my wife now, right? But you had to do it one way -- get me out of the picture, so you set me up for Margaret's murder.

Kelly: Well, I'm glad things are going so well with you and Rex.

Adriana: Hmm. Wish mom felt that way.

Kelly: Well, he did try to frame her for murder.

Adriana: Oh, come on. Not you, too.

Kelly: I'm just saying Dorian has her issues, but I think she probably wouldn't like anyone who was dating her girls.

Adriana: And I thought it was just the Buchanans.

Kelly: I think it was until Rex came along. Now I think if Dorian had to choose between him and Duke, Duke would definitely win.

Adriana: Well, I'm glad Duke's got you anyway.

Kelly: What?

Adriana: As a friend. What'd you think I meant? I mean, I'm just glad that you guys are close.

Kelly: Well, we're not really that close. I mean, he's Kevin's son, I'm Kevin's fiancee.

Adriana: Hmm, I don't know. I don't think Duke sees it that way. You should hear the way he used to talk about you. I'd be jealous if I didn't know any better.

Kelly: Yeah, jealous. It's just silly. I mean, we're just friends.

Roxy: Rex said that you're chasing some wiseguy, Vincent Jones, as in vinny the viper. Honey, I got to tell you, that's a lousy idea.

Natalie: Ok, well, forget it, Roxy. I finally have a lead on a guy that might be able to help John. I'm not going to let you scare me off. Plus, that -- didn't you say your old gang was, you know, a bunch of pussycats?

Roxy: I lied. They're all a bunch of lowlifes. They'd sell their own mothers down the river. And yours. And I don't swim so good.

Natalie: Well, why don't you take your little self back home and forget that you ever saw me here? Ok, suit yourself, but do not get in the way of what I'm doing. This is important to me.

Roxy: I get that, but what I don't get is you don't want Johnny back, but you're kissing up to him.

Natalie: That's not what I'm doing. He needs help.

Roxy: So does he know that you're here?

Natalie: No.

Roxy: Ok. So let's say you get what you want and this viper guy ponies up the information about who popped off his dad. You think Johnny's going to give you a medal or he's going to hate you for the rest of his life?

Starr: Dad, what do you mean, Dr. Truman set you up?

Todd: Well, it's like I said up in the mountain. You remember that? You know what I'm talking about.

Starr: I want to know what!

Blair: Look, Starr, I want you to go out and sit in the car, all right?

Starr: I am not leaving dad.

Todd: Starr, I want you to go out in the car, all right?

Starr: Dad, I might never see you again! They're talking about taking you to death row!

Todd: All right, come here, come here. Hey, trust me, right? Huh? Trust me? Have I ever not come back before? I'm going to come back this time. But I want you to go to the car right now. I need you to let me handle this myself. Hmm? Will you do that?

Starr: I love you, dad.

Todd: I love you.

Starr: I believe you and I always will.

Todd: Ok. Ok.

Starr: Ok?

Todd: Hmm.

Starr: No matter what anyone says. I love you.

Todd: I love you, too. Go to the car now.

Spencer: Come on, let's get you out of here, too.

Todd: Yeah. Take her up to the ski lodge.

Oh. Mmm.

Blair: Don't, Todd.

Todd: You think maybe it was the first time they did it? I think they've been going at it ever since the jury said "guilty."

Blair: Just stop it.

Todd: I mean, he's a sly son of a bitch, this cat over here, this Dr. Spencer Truman. He planned this whole thing out, right down to the second. Yeah. I know what you did. I know what you did. You killed Margaret.

Rex: Any minute now,

Rex: Any minute now, the Commish will come walking in here, ragging on me about Todd, telling me he hoped I learned my lesson. Then he's going to let me out. That's what's going to happen. That's what's going to happen! Oh, come on, admit it -- you were worried about me, and you came by to check on me. I'm growing on you.

Bo: Oh, God. I hope Paige can prescribe an ointment for that.

Rex: Do you have any last words of advice before I crawl home with my tail between my legs?

Bo: Yes -- don't crawl. That's not your style. And don't worry because things have a way of working themselves out.

Rex: Thanks, uncle Bo.

Bo: Oh-

Rex: Tell him there's an officer down! Call an ambulance! Oh, God. Thank you.

Bo: Balsom?

Rex: Yeah?

Bo: Do you see the bandage on my neck?

Rex: Yep.

Bo: We might not have gotten Hayes if it wasn't for you.

Rex: Me?

Bo: You did a smart thing when you dropped your watch at Rodi's -- you know, let us know that he had you. Where'd you come up with an idea like that?

Rex: I was thinking, what would Bo do now?

Bo: You know what? You're two seconds away from being a statistic right now and having what brains you possess get splattered all over this parking lot! I will not lose another kid! You see, that was Drew's. Before he was a cop, he -- he kind of lost his way, but he said that that compass always reminded him what direction he should take.

Rex: Thanks. I mean it. I'll take good care of it.

Bo: Good. Manning, that's quite an accusation. You have anything to back it up?

Spencer: They're the obvious rantings of a desperate man.

Todd: Think about the timing. He shows up into town, he immediately begins to worm his way into her life.

Blair: Ok, you know what? Todd, I'm sorry th you found out the way that you did, but not because we did something wrong -- because I knew you would flip out like this.

Todd: Oh, am I flipping out? Sounds like --

Blair: Do you expect me to believe you? That Spencer would actually kill a woman and her child?

Todd: No, but I could? My own child -- I could?

Blair: I tried not to believe it.

Todd: No.

Blair: I tried not to believe it for a long time.

Todd: Oh, but now that you've met Spencer, you do. You do. See, what happened was, he set her up just like he set me up.

Blair: Ok, you know what? I'm not going to listen to any of this. You killed Margaret, and you killed your own child, and now you have to pay for it.

Adriana: Oh, Starr, you scared me.

Starr: I'm sorry. I just needed to get away somewhere.

Adriana: Hey, what's wrong?

Starr: Everything. They found my dad, and they put him back in jail.

Adriana: Well, at least he's ok.

Starr: Who cares? They're going to kill him, anyway.

Adriana: Starr, why don't you let me take you home to your mom?

Starr: No! I hate that bitch. I never want to see her ever again.

Adriana: You don't mean that.

Starr: Yes, I do, I really do. I hate her.

Adriana: What happened?

Starr: She's hooking up with someone else already. How could she do that to my dad?

Adriana: I really think you should talk to your mom.

Starr: What, like how you talk to Dorian? You know what? Just leave me alone, ok?

Adriana: Look, Starr, I can't leave you, ok? Besides, I'm waiting for Rex.

Starr: Yeah, well, Rex isn't coming.

Adriana: How would you know?

Starr: Because I saw him at the police station. He's in jail, too.

Adriana: What? For what?

Starr: I don't know -- something to do with my dad.

Adriana: Oh, my God. I have to go. It's just --

Starr: It's fine, ok? I already told you to get lost. I'm sorry -- just thank you.

Adriana: I'll call you, ok?

Roxy: He was saving you from a major scuz, and you're doing what exactly?

Natalie: Helping a friend.

Roxy: So you'd get your throat cut for his brother, Michael?

Natalie: What do you mean?

Roxy: Well, Michael's a friend, you know. It's his dad we're talking about, but you wouldn't put your ass on the line for him.

Natalie: Yeah, but it's a couple of questions. It's not a big deal, but thank you for caring. It's about time your maternal instincts kicked in.

Roxy: I don't know about that. I'm just worried about my baby. And while I'm waiting, I might as well wet my whistle. Can I have a sloe gin fizz, please?

Natalie: No, you know what? We're not waiting. I mean, Jones' guy said his Boss was going to be here an hour ago. I mean, it's obvious he's not showing up.

[Phone rings]

Roxy: You need money?

Natalie: Hello? Yeah, I'm still at the bar. A little longer. Well, you know what? You tell your Boss that my time's worth something, too.

Roxy: Is that the way you talk to hoods?

Natalie: Come on. It's not like they're going to put a hit on me for that.

Roxy: Look, baby, I don't know much about much, but if you're going to be swimming with the sharks, you're going to be sleeping with the fishes.

[Door slams]

Rex: Bo. Adriana.

Adriana: Starr told m you were here.

Rex: I won't be for long.

Adriana: What happened?

Rex: It's all -- Todd was hiding out at lion's heart.

Adriana: Oh, my God. Was he there when we were?

Rex: Yeah.

Adriana: Oh. And they think you knew he was there?

Rex: Well, like I was saying --

Adriana: But you didn't, right? You didn't, right?

Rex: I knew. That's why I wanted to get you out of there so fast.

Adriana: But why didn't you tell Bo? Why didn't you tell me?

Rex: I couldn't.

Adriana: Don't even say it was to protect me.

Rex: Actually, it was to protect Todd.

Kelly: I was surprised that you called after what you said. I haven't seen you in a while.

Kevin: Yeah, I just needed some space.

Kelly: I know you talked to Duke.

Kevin: Yeah.

Kelly: There's nothing going on.

Kevin: Maybe not on your end.

Kelly: He's just confused.

Kevin: Well, he sounded pretty sure how he feels about you.

Kelly: So, what do you want? Why did you call?

Kevin: I was hoping to give you some good news.

Kelly: About what?

Kevin: I had Spencer run some tests.

Kelly: Oh.

Kevin: And the results came back, and apparently the damage this virus did is reversible.

Kelly: Are you sure?

Kevin: Yeah. He pretty much ran every test in the book, so we definitely can't have a baby.

Roxy: Hey, handsome, can I have another one?

Bartender: You, too?

Natalie: No, I'm still nursing this one. Thanks. Drink up fast, Roxy, because when this guy gets here, you got to go.

Roxy: Well, who's going to protect your back?

Natalie: I need to do this alone. Plus, I don't want you screwing it up.

Roxy: Since when have I ever done that?

Natalie: You want the short list?

Roxy: Well, maybe once or twice, but I didn't screw up tonight. So what's your plan?

Natalie: What plan?

Roxy: Well, what are you going to say? "Oh, Mr. Viper, did you pop Johnny's daddy?"

Natalie: Roxy, I think I've gotten pretty good at getting info out of people. I learned from the best.

Roxy: Hey, baby, thanks.

Natalie: Not you -- John.

John: Evangeline, it's me again. Look, call me when you get this. Manning needs your help, and I need to -- I need to speak to you, too. Just call me.

John: How's it going?

Starr: Are you serious?

John: I'm sorry. I -- I know that must've been pretty tough on you back at the station.

Starr: Do you see this? It's my dad's ring. He left it at the ski lodge as some kind of sign for my mom to not give up on him. And I thought she kept it because -- because she still --

John: Hey, you -- uh -- you ok?

Star when my dad said that Dr. Truman set him up, did he mean to see Dr. Truman and my mom or -- or something else?

John: Only your dad knows what he meant. Hey, look, you know, you shouldn't be out here on your own.

Starr: I'm not.

John: That's true.

John: What?

Starr: What did my dad mean when he was saying that stuff about the mountain?

John: Well, you know, we -- we were stuck up there together, so well, hell, we said a lot of things.

Starr: It sounded like he thought that you believed in him. Do you? Do you believe my dad is innocent?

Todd: I can't go back there, Bo. I didn't do anything.

Bo: Manning, you gave up your right to appeal, you accepted the death penalty. Now all of a sudden, you want to fight it. What's going on?

Todd: I was trying to make it easier for my family.

Bo: By dying?

Todd: I guess I didn't want them to put their lives on hold, which is pretty stupid, now, isn't it? Apparently, Blair's moved on.

Bo: So this is just about you getting -- getting even with Blair for being with another guy?

Todd: No, it isn't. I don't know how many times I have to say this. Spencer Truman masterminded this whole thing. He set me up.

Bo: Go on.

Todd: All right. I have seen a lease. The lessee's name, Spencer Truman, is for a warehouse out in the middle of nowhere. It's my guess that he used that warehouse to hide Margaret. He leased it the day before Margaret was killed. I've seen the lease. Now, the day she was killed, he had her call me to lure me to the lake, and he knew she'd never see the light of morning again, and he also knew that I'd be suspect number one, right? Ok. Then the trial happens. He pays off Denton -- remember my guy, Denton?

Bo: Mm-hmm.

Todd: He pays him off to lie on the stand, make me look even more guilty. That's how it happened.

Bo: All right. Do you have one shred of evidence, any proof at all?

Todd: I don't have any, you know, on me, but she does.

Adriana: So you lied to me to protect Todd? An escaped killer that everyone we know is out looking for him? They have armed guards watching Blair and the kids!

Rex: Todd would never hurt them.

Adriana: Uh -- he killed his own baby. Ok? That sounds like a guy that would do just about anything.

Rex: For once, would you stop acting like such a Cramer?

Adriana: What did you just say?

Rex: Just because your mom hates Todd, doesn't --

Adriana: Because of what he's done to Blair!

Rex: Ok. Here's the thing. How many man have been sentenced to death row for something they didn't commit? They're being exonerated all the time. And those are just the ones who didn't get executed. Now, I care what you think, Adriana. Ok? But I am not going to let an innocent man get executed for something he didn't do, if I can help stop it.

Todd: She knows that -- I'm cool -- she knows the truth. She knows I didn't kill Margaret.

Bo: Is that right, honey?

Paige: I told you what I think.

Todd: You obviously haven't told him anything!

Paige: Because I don't know anything.

Todd: You came to me in that prison! You said that --

Paige: Bo knows all of that.

Todd: You said you knew -- she said she knew I was innocent. That I didn't kill Margaret. And when I asked her for proof -- when I said I want proof, you said he -- he was too smart to leave any.

Bo: Who's "he," Paige?

Todd: Tell him! Bo, Spencer Truman killed Margaret.

Spencer: You know, I have studied a little psychology. Enough to know, as a matter of fact, that sometimes, the guilty parties will try to transfer the guilt to someone else. Now, obviously, in Todd's mind, I took what belongs to him. Therefore, I am responsible. For everything.

Blair: Well, unfortunately, Starr feels the same way. She's so much like Todd. I mean, she always has been.

Spencer: Yeah, which is why it's probably going to take her a little longer to come around.

Blair: What if she doesn't?

Spencer: She will. Because she has a mother that loves her very, very much, who will always be there for her to catch her when she falls. And she knows that.

Blair: What if that's not enough, Spencer?

Spencer: Don't you know by now that you make everyone around you stronger? You make us all better people.

Blair: I've made a terrible mistake.

Starr: Do you? Do you believe my dad is innocent?

John: I don't know, Starr.

John: Look, I don't know a lot about this, but the people around me -- they keep telling me that, you know, you got to talk about your feelings, and you got to get them out in the open and all that.

Starr: How do you do that? No one would understand what it's like to get their dad taken away from them. Possibly forever. And knowing that there's nothing you can do about it.

John: Actually, I might know something about that. You feel like you should be able to do something. And if you don't, you let them down.

Starr: So what do you do? How do you help them when no one else cares and everyone is telling you to just give up?

John: You don't listen to the you keep asking questions. You keep looking for the truth.

Starr: Is that what you're doing?

John: Yeah, I guess I am.

Natalie: I don't even know what this guy looks like.

Roxy: Well, I do.

Natalie: Why didn't you say so?

Roxy: Why? I mean, I don't know him, but I know the type. You know, a black shirt, shiny white tie, big belly, lots of gold chains, one of them Rolodexes. And he's got a pinky ring with a rock the size of Jersey.

Man: Natalie Buchanan? I'm Vincent Jones.

Kelly: I had no idea that you were having Spencer run tests.

Kevin: I didn't want you to get your hopes up.

Kelly: I would have gone with you.

Kevin: While I was waiting for the results, I was walking around, and I ended up in the nursery. I saw all the new babies and the new mothers. How happy they were. And I couldn't help thinking that -- that that should be you. You know, you -- you deserve that. And at that moment, I -- I would have done anything to give you that. Even stolen a baby.

Kelly: Kevin --

Kevin: No, I'm just saying that for the first time, I -- I finally realize -- I understand how you felt -- before with ace.

Kelly: It made me crazy.

Kevin: And it's making me jealous of my own son.

Kelly: I know, and -- Duke and I -- there is no Duke and I. It's -- it's silly for us to even talk about this, so let's not. Let's just focus on us. Ok? You and me.

Kevin: I -- I can't give you what you want. You know, Duke can. He -- he can give you the world.

Kelly: I don't want the world. I want you. I want you.

Natalie: You're Vincent Jones?

Vincent: Vincent Jones. And you are?

Roxy: Miss out of here.

Natalie: Um -- I'm sorry about that. We were just Both surprised. I was expecting --

Vincent: I know, I know, I know. You know, I love to see the look on people's faces when I show up. The element of surprise can be a powerful thing.

Natalie: No, I wasn't surprised that you --

Vincent: What? African-American?

Natalie: No, I was expecting someone older. The thing I need help with happened over 25 years ago.

Vincent: Yeah, you were expecting my father. He died a few months back.

Natalie: He died?

Vincent: Yeah. But everything that was valuable to him, he passed on to me. I may be able to help.

Natalie: Maybe. Does the name Mc Bain mean anything to you?

Ed: Oh, hey.

John: You -- you got a minute?

Ed: Yeah, yeah. For you? Come on in. Come on in. Take a load off. Well, I heard they brought Todd Manning in, huh?

John: I -- that's why I had to leave before.

Ed: I figured as much.

John: That's not why I'm here, though. I'm here for somebody else.

Ed: Believe it or not, I've heard that one before. Ok, John, what's going on? Lay it on me.

John: Look, I don't usually like to get involved in these things, but it's -- it's Manning's -- it's Manning's kid. I -- I don't know the clinic term, but she's a mess. You know, the mother's already with somebody else, the father's committed murder. She's sure he didn't do it.

Ed: Well, that's -- that's not abnormal for a child to feel that way about their parent.

John: That call earlier was from where Manning was holed up, all right? He had a -- a gun on himself. And he wanted to speak to me. He thought maybe I could help, that maybe I could get him out of it.

Ed: How did you feel about that?

John: Hey, look, you know, he -- he had a fair trial, the jury convicted him, and he waived his right to an appeal.

Ed: Sounds like he got what he deserved.

John: But there's something else.

Ed: What, John?

John: I think the kid's right. Manning's innocent.

Adriana: All right, look, if Todd is as innocent as you say, they won't kill him. His lawyer will prove it.

Rex: You can be so naive sometimes.

Adriana: Oh, and you just love being the bad boy. You knew where Todd was hiding out all this time, and you covered for him!

Rex: I didn't know anything. We went to lion's heart, and Todd was there. It wasn't premeditated.

Adriana: I thought you had changed. I thought you were going to play by the rules now, that you cared enough about me to be good.

Rex: I do. Not the convent school drink Kool-Aid good. It's the "think for yourself, do what's right" good. There's a big difference. You know that.

Adriana: What I know is that a jury convicted Todd on two counts of cold-blooded murder, one of which was his own child.

Rex: That doesn't mean he did it.

Adriana: Unbelievable.

Rex: I'm not the only one who thinks so! Evangeline Williamson agrees. Even Bo is having his doubts.

Adriana: Then why did he lock you up in here? He trusted you, Rex. He believed in you. How could you do this to him? How could you do it to me?

Rex: It had nothing to do with you.

Adriana: Look, you don't know Todd. What he's done to Blair, to our family.

Rex: You sound like your mother.

Adriana: I am not her. And you know what? Sometimes, she's right. She is about this, and maybe she was right about you.

Rex: Adriana! Adriana, come back! Adriana! Oh!

Todd: You're not going to say anything? How you know Spencer's behind the whole thing?

Paige: I can't say that. I have no proof.

Todd: Why is everybody so afraid of this guy? Anyway, she knows I'm innocent. So does Vickers.

Paige: David -- David said that?

Bo: When did you talk to Vickers?

Todd: All I'm saying is he knows. Why don't you ask him?

Bo: Keep an eye on him. Come with me.

Bo: All right -- ahem. We've waltzed around this enough. Now, if you do know something, you have to tell me right now. Is Manning telling the truth? Did Spencer kill Margaret and her baby?

Vincent: Mc Bain's a pretty common name.

Natalie: This one -- this one was a cop. Killed back in the early 1980s. Back alley somewhere here in Atlantic City.

Vincent: What's your interest in this?

Natalie: Why do you have a Bodyguard?

Natalie: This is an article on the shooting. They never found the shooter. Ring any bells now?

Vincent: Are you a P.I.?

Natalie: No, I'm not a cop, either. This is personal.

Vincent: A relative?

Natalie: Somebody else's. A friend.

Vincent: Oh. A friend you're in love with?

Ed: You've got a dilemma.

John: Yeah, I got a dilemma. And I don't have any proof that Manning's innocent. And the case is already closed.

Ed: It's got to be one of the toughest things a cop can face. Criminals walk. You know, lack of evidence and proper procedure. You hate it, but you keep your eye on the perp, hoping he trips up next time so you can nail him again. But when the reverse happens --

[John sighs]

John: It's rare. But I don't want an innocent man facing lethal injection.

Ed: And you got to ask yourself if you can live with that.

John: I've been saying that a lot lately.

Spencer: What mistake, Blair? What are you talking about?

Blair: Starr and I -- we've always had our issues, but we always have been close. And I promised her, I would never, ever lie to her. I used to get on her all the time about her lying. And here I am -- I'm the liar. Spencer, I should have just -- I should have just been honest right from the get-go and -- I should have been honest and told her when things started to change for us.

Spencer: You were just trying to protect her. You didn't know how she was going to react.

Blair: I at least would have been able to explain it to her. Now she thinks that I've betrayed her. And she hates me. And she's never going to accept you.

Spencer: She doesn't hate you. I know that for a fact. She loves you very, very much. That's why she's so conflicted.

Blair: Yeah. If I could believe that --

Spencer: And she knows you love her, as well. Right? She's just -- I mean, look, she's just really hurting right now, that's all.

Blair: Well, I thought I was doing the right thing. I thought, you know, if I -- now I sound like Todd.

[Blair sighs]

Spencer: Listen. Sometimes, we have to make difficult choices. Sometimes, we have to do things that from the outside looking in, don't necessarily look right.

Todd: Bo, I'm innocent. She knows it.

Bo: Do you think that Spencer's capable of killing someone?

Paige: Yes.

Todd: She knows Truman did it! Truman did the whole thing!
