Woman: Blair, when are you coming back to work?

Blair: Oh, you know what?  I'm not sure.

Man: Oh.

Woman: Ooh, don't tell us that.

Blair: Well, I thought Adriana was taking care of things.

Man: Adriana's run off to New York.

Woman: And your aunt is a bloody tyrant.

Man: Look, please just sign this expense report, please, so I don't have to explain every last aspirin.

Blair: Oh, come on.  It's not that bad.

Woman: She'll be needing more than an aspirin if she condescends to me one more time.

Dorian: Blair, what a pleasant surprise. Why is everybody standing around the hallway?  Back to work.  This magazine is not going to publish itself.  Thank you.

Blair: Dorian, I think you need to work on your managerial skills.  Otherwise, you're going to have a mutiny around here.

Dorian: Blair, those people are used to being coddled by you.

Blair: Oh, really?

Dorian: And as for my managerial skills, they're exemplary.

Blair: Mm-hmm.  Why don't you try a whip and some thigh-high boots next time?

Dorian: If I can run a hospital, I can sure as heck publish a magazine.

Blair: But you can't do it by yourself.  Now, what's this I hear about Adriana going off to New York?

Dorian: Oh, Adriana is going to be back from New York very soon, so don't worry about that, and when she does return, she is going to have one less distraction weighing her mind down.

Adriana: I do want you, Rex.  I've never wanted anything so much.

Rex: God, you're beautiful.

John: Evangeline, it's me.  Look, I left a message on your cell.  Call me as soon as you get this, and stay the hell away from warehouse 28.

Ed: "Warehouse 28" -- now, that's where the D.A. went to go search for Todd Manning.  Why are you going there?

Hugh: All right.  I want to search this place from top to bottom.  Split up.  Go.

Hugh: Police, freeze!

Evangeline: Ok, Hugh.  Just don't shoot.

Todd: Well, here I am, Pop.  And we're together again.  Two sick bastards against the world.  I bet you wouldn't have it any other way, would you?

Ed: You look pretty good for a guy that just survived a plane crash.  And it is good to see you up and about, but you are going to have to do your recuperating somewhere other than this building.

John: Fine.

Ed: And that goes double for an active investigation.  You are to stay away from that warehouse.

John: Look, man, I'm trying to see this thing through, all right?  I was there when the plane went down, I was there when Manning got away, and I -- I feel like I should be there when he's brought in.

Ed: Why?

John: Because transporting Manning was my job and the job didn't get done.  So -- I feel like it's -- it's on me to make sure the people that are out there looking for him are safe. If someone gets hurt, if someone gets shot and killed while he's on the loose, it all comes back to me.

Ed: Because of your father. That's what this is all about, John, right? Your father and his death?

Officer: All clear, sir.

Second officer: No sign of Manning.  If he was here, he's gone now.

Hugh: Where is he?

Evangeline: How should I know?  I thought he was here.

Hugh: What gave you that idea?

Evangeline: I heard over the police radio that Todd had been seen hiding out here, so I came to try to get him to turn himself in.  I don't want to see my client shot by your posse.

Hugh: Why were you running when I saw you?

Evangeline: I wasn't.  This is a big warehouse.  I was just trying to find my way out before I got shot.

Hugh: Yeah.  So, this is how it's going to be, huh?  Defense attorney versus D.A.?

Evangeline: What do you want me to say, Hugh?

Hugh: How about the truth? That'd be a great start.  Were you here with Todd?

[Knock on door]

Adriana: Did you order more room service?

Rex: No.  I put a "do not disturb" sign on the door like an hour ago.

Adriana: Maybe if we're quiet, they'll go away.

[Knock]

Man: Hotel security.  Open the door.

Rex: What the hell?

Man: Rex Balsom?

Rex: Yeah?

Man: Just checking out of room 3005?

Rex: Yeah.  I moved in here this afternoon.  Why?  What's this all about?

Man: You left a little something in the room you just vacated.  We're concerned for miss Cramer's safety.

Rex: Why?  What did I leave behind?

Man: This.

Adriana: Well, what is that?

Man: Heroin.

Blair: You let Adriana go off to New York with Rex Balsom?  Dorian, have you forgotten that he tried to frame you for murder?

Dorian: Of course I haven't.  No, but Adriana is a grown woman now and she says that Rex is the only man who can make her happy, and who am I to interfere?

Blair: What are you talking about?  You always interfere. You interfered with me and Todd, Kelly and Kevin, Cassie and Kevin, Cassie and Andrew, Cassie and everybody.  What are you talking about?

Dorian: Well, I've learned my lesson.  Because of that, Cassie lives hundreds of miles away, right?  She never comes to visit me.  I've got one daughter living at home, and -- and I've decided to try something new.

Blair: Please.  How many times have we heard that?

Dorian: Well, this time, this time I intend to follow through with it.

Blair: Ok.  Why now?  Hmm?

Dorian: Because recently, I have had the experience of having somebody meddle in my life.  It's annoying.  It's -- it's obnoxious, it's infuriating.

Blair: Hmm. How many times have I told you that?  So, tell me, who's meddling in your life?

Dorian: Ok.  I've had the good fortune to have a certain man re-enter my life.  He is my equal, he is intelligent, he is -- oh -- of impeccable moral character.  He is an honest man and, well -- ahem -- someone is trying to get in the way.

Blair: Who?

Dorian: Who is it always?  Viki.

Clint: All right, this is the last stop.

Viki: I was so hoping that somebody in this neighborhood would have remembered something about Niki or Tess.

Clint: Look, are you up for this?  Because coming back to Niki's hangout -- this could be just what she needs to take control again.

Viki: I can do it, ok?  I can do it.

Clint: Well, you know, Jessie's not the only one with this condition.

Viki: But she's my daughter and I have to help her, and the only way to do that is to find out why she split in the first place.  It's not a question of whether I can or cannot -- I have to.  Sorry.  And if it means, you know, risking letting Niki Smith out, I have no choice.

Clint: All right.  For Jessica.

Viki: You know what?  It's -- yeah, it's also for Tess.  It's for everybody who had to pay for what my father did to me.

Todd: Oh.  Ah.

Todd: You make me want to puke.  I am no ideal father, but I'm not you -- that's for damn sure.  No, no, no, no.  I never killed Margaret.  I thought about it -- yeah, I thought about it.  I thought about it a lot because I inherited your sick mind.  But I couldn't do it because the part of you that was heartless, the part of you that was devoid of any human decency, I was spared that part, thank God. It doesn't matter, does it?  I've lost anyway.  I lost everything dear to me -- Blair, my children, my sister.

Todd: You win.  You win.  I lose.  Victor Lord has the last laugh once again.

[Noise]

Tess: Oh --

Todd: Don't make a sound.

Rex: I don't know where you got that, but it's not mine.  Do I look like a junkie to you?

Man: I don't know.  I don't spend my time hanging out with drug addicts.

Rex: Well, let me help you out -- ahem.  You're looking for a guy with track marks, who has hollowed-out eyes, who weighs about 98 pounds soaking wet.  We'll see you.

Man: We found drugs in your room.  It's hotel policy in such cases to conduct a search of the premises. 

Rex: Do you have any idea how many laws that would be breaking?  There's no way you're searching this room without a warrant.

Man: I have no problem calling the police.

Rex: I told you, that stuff's not mine.

Man: Well, then it shouldn't be a problem for us to check this room for illegal substances.

Rex: Fine, but this is totally nuts.

Rex: You believe me, don't you?  You know those drugs aren't mine, right?

Blair: You are after Clint Buchanan?  You amaze me, Dorian.  After all the years of you railing against the Buchanan men, you finally figured out that maybe you might be missing out on something?

Dorian: Well, Clint and I could be on the verge of exploring --

Blair: What?

Dorian: A whole new plateau in our relationship, but as of the moment, we are still just good friends.

Blair: Well, then what are you bent out of shape about?

Dorian: Because, my darling, if Viki has her way, I won't even be able to have anything more than a -- a passing acquaintance with the man, let alone a meaningful relationship.  I mean, any time I offer him just the slightest display of support or friendship, it throws her into a jealous fit.

Blair: Oh, please, Dorian.

Dorian: She is pathetically insecure, but I am not going to let her issues interfere with something that could be the best thing that happened in my life.

Blair: Well, you're saying that Clint is the -- you know what?  Never mind.  I don't even want to get into this with you.  You know, I guess the upside of it is you're just going to be butting out of my life right now, right?

Dorian: Oh, that's quite a windfall, isn't it?

Blair: Well, it's something I'm going to have to get used to, that's for sure.  I mean, who's going to keep me away from Spencer and who's going to remind me every day of all the mistakes that I made in my life with Todd?

Dorian: All right.  I've got to ask how -- ahem -- are things with Todd?  Have the police been able to track down the mongrel yet?

Todd: No, hold it.  Jess?  Ow!

Tess: Wrong girl.

[Todd sighs]

Todd: Oh.  Hi, Tess.

Tess: Hey, Todd.  How's life on the lam?  I mean, I know what it's like to be on the run, but never from a lethal injection.

Todd: I don't know.  At the rate you're going --

Tess: Hey.  Why don't you give me one good reason why I shouldn't turn you in the way you did me?

Hugh: Were you with Todd before we got here?

Evangeline: Like I said, I heard he was spotted here in the warehouse --

Hugh: I heard what you said, but I don't buy it.  An eyewitness said he was here.

Evangeline: Well, he obviously left.

Hugh: Come on.  Counselor, you've got to be the smartest, most honest defense attorney I've ever come up against.  It would go against everything you are to harbor a fugitive.

Evangeline: Yeah, you're right, it does, and what you just accused me of -- it's purely conjecture.  You have nothing to back it up and you know it.

Hugh: I'm trying to be a friend.

Evangeline: Really?  Do friends hold each other at gunpoint, Hugh, because that's what you were just doing to me a minute ago.

Hugh: You're looking at disbarment, possible jail time. I can help you, but you've got to come clean right now.  Where's Todd?

Evangeline: If he was here at all, he left before I got here.  Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be leaving.

Hugh: Counselor, stop.  You know what to do.  You're under arrest for the suspicion of aiding and abetting a fugitive.

Evangeline: Excuse me?

Hugh: Go ahead.  By the book, do it.

Officer: Evangeline --

Evangeline: What, handcuffs?

Officer: Turn around, please.

Evangeline: You got to be kidding me.

Hugh: No, I'm just doing my job.  I'm just doing my job.

Evangeline: This is ridic--

Hugh: I will find Todd Manning, with or without your cooperation.

Evangeline: You can try.

Officer: You have the right to remain silent.  Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.  You have the right to an attorney.

John: Look, I'm not talking about my father and this isn't one of our sessions.

Ed: Yeah, but that's part of the problem, isn't it?  If this was one of our sessions, you would've shown up late, left early, and refused to engage while you were there, that's assuming you showed up at all.

John: You know what?  You're giving me a headache, all right?  Can we save this for when you're on the clock?

Ed: Sure.  I got all the time you want, John, you know, but if you -- you really want your badge back, you better start getting serious.  I.A. has got you on their radar and they are just looking for an excuse to get you off the street for good.  You want to spend the rest of your life, your career, being a security consultant?  I suppose that's your call.

John: Do you ever take a night off?

Natalie: Do you?

John: No, seriously, you're not on the schedule.  What are you doing here?

Natalie: I just had to tie up a few loose ends after Cristian's fight.

John: Cris is boxing for real now?

Natalie: Yep, looks that way.

John: Hmm.

Natalie: So, looks like Crosby is still hounding you about therapy, huh?

John: Hmm, he never really shuts up about it.

Natalie: I mean, haven't you jumped through enough hoops for I.A. yet?

John: Guess not.  I'll have to pour my heart out some more if I want to get my badge back.

Natalie: Are you willing to do that?

John: No.  But I need to get back on the job, so maybe I can help somebody, somewhere.

Rex: Hey!  That shirt cost me 200 bucks.  You have to make such a mess?

Man: Quiet, Mr. Balsom. Let us do our job.

Rex: You never answered me before.

Adriana: I'm sorry.  Of course I don't think those drugs are yours.  This whole thing just has me kind of freaked out.  Tonight wasn't supposed to be like this.

Rex: It'll all be over soon.

Man: Whose is this?

Rex: Mine.  Why?

Man: Looks like your little baggy brought friends.

Rex: That's not mine.  You put it there.  You set me up!

Blair: It's not bad.

Dorian: "Not bad?"  It's magnificent.  Now, stop it.  You are dodging the subject.

[Phone rings]

Dorian: Excuse me.  When I get off this call, I expect you to answer my question.  Dorian Lord.

Adriana: Mom, it's me.

Dorian: Darling, what's all that noise?

Rex: You put those drugs in my bag!  You know you did!

Adriana: Rex is in trouble, ok?  They found some drugs in his stuff.

Dorian: Rex had drugs?

Blair: Is everything all right?

Adriana: No, you don't understand -- they're not his.  We don't know how they got there.  I need your help, Mom.

Dorian: But are you all right?  Have you been accused of anything?

Adriana: No, just Rex.

Dorian: I'm sorry, honey, but I don't think there's anything I can do.  I'm afraid that you're on your own.

[Music plays]

Viki: I'll tell you, some of these people look like they've been sitting here for 20 years.  Maybe someone will remember something.

Clint: Hold that thought.

Sam: I'm sorry.  I guess I wasn't too clear the last time you visited my establishment, but this time I will be.  You two aren't welcome here.  Get the hell out.

Todd: Now, Tess, you're not still angry at me, are you, for giving you up to Viki?  I mean, come on.  That was months ago.  And besides, you got back at me.  You almost killed her, didn't you?

Tess: That's your best reason for me not calling the cops right now?  Well, I'm sorry, Todd.  That's just not good enough.

Todd: Listen.  Hmm.  I apologize for getting in your way back then.  But this thing I'm going through right now -- it's not your business.

Tess: Todd, look at me.  I'm seven months pregnant -- yeah.  Is this reminiscent of your time with Margaret Cochran?  I mean, she must have been this far along when you threw her into the lake.

Todd: I didn't kill Margaret.  And you don't think I did.  Otherwise, you would've already called the cops.

Tess: Yeah, I gotcha.  Ahem.  I just wanted to pull your leg.

Todd: Oh.

Tess: What, did you lose your sense of humor with this whole death sentence thing?

Todd: So you believe me?  How come?

Tess: Jessica would know if you killed Margaret and she'd hate you.  But she still has a soft spot for you, so that tells me you didn't do it.

Todd: Thanks.

Tess: Hmm. Whatever.  I got my own problems and I don't need to be stuck in the middle of yours.

Todd: What are you doing here anyway?

Tess: Well, I'm leaving town and I came to pay respects and thanks to the old man here.

Todd: Thanks for what?

Tess: Thanks for making me who I am.  Can I talk to you for a second? 

Todd: I never had any reason to do anything but curse him.

Tess: He gave you life, didn't he?

Todd: Oh, yeah.  It was a hell of a life.  First he drops me off, and I'm raised by a sadist, Peter Manning.  And then I grew up.  The rest, as they say, is history.

Tess: Yeah, it's nice.  Really sad. Would you rather have had my childhood or Viki's?  You know, Todd, I really -- I don't care about your father issues.  I know if it wasn't for Victor Lord's rotten legacy, I wouldn't exist, and neither would my baby.  Neither would Jack or Starr, for that matter.

Todd: Hmm.  Where's your boyfriend?

Tess: I don't know where he is.  He bailed.  He left me some letter saying that he loved me too much to stay.  It was a bunch of bull.  And he can go to hell.

Todd: So you're just going to let him go?

Tess: What would you have me do?  Chase him to the ends of the earth?  He doesn't want to be around, he doesn't want to be around.

Todd: You're nothing but a fraud.

Blair: What the hell l are you doing?  You've got to help her, Dorian.

Adriana: Why won't you do something?

Dorian: Darling, I -- I didn't say that I wouldn't help.  It's just I'm really surprised that you would call me with a situation like this.

Adriana: Why?

Dorian: Well, you've gone to such lengths to assert your independence.  I would think that you would want to handle something like this on your own.  Of course you were right to call me.  And -- and I will do everything to help my darling little baby girl, but I hope you realize that I was right to warn you about Rex in the first place.

Adriana: You know what?  Never mind.  Just forget it.  I don't need your help, mom.  Maybe you don't believe me, but I can take care of myself.  I've had to do it my whole life.

Dorian: She hung up on me.

Blair: Well, you're lucky if she ever talks to you again.

Rex: Hey, get your hands off me!

Adriana: Stop it!  Let go of him!  Stop!

John: What the hell's going on?  Get those damn cuffs off her.

Hugh: Jack, take her downstairs, please.  Go.  We found her at warehouse 28, right where R.J. Gannon said Todd Manning would be.  I don't think it's a coincidence.  See, she knows something about Todd, and I'm going to find out what it is.

John: Ah.

Hugh: And until then, we got 24 hours to hold her.

Natalie: If there's anything I can do for you --

Evangeline: I seriously doubt it.  But thanks.

Natalie: Hey, could you just lose the cuffs?

Jack: The D.A. said to keep them on.

John: You know, I don't know what's worse -- believing a word that comes out of Gannon's mouth or cutting a deal with him.

Hugh: Well, it was my call.

John: Yeah?  Was arresting Evangeline your call, too?

Hugh: You're going to need to check your personal feelings at the door.  See, I didn't want to arrest Evangeline, but she's withholding information, so I needed to.

Natalie: John, can we do something about these?

John: Give me those keys.

Hugh: This is not your case.

John: Jack, give me those keys, or you and I are going to have a bigger problem.

Todd: When did you go soft, anyway?  What happened to that nasty chick I used to know?  Got everything, did everything she wanted.

Tess: I am doing what I want.

Todd: Uh-huh.  Well, it seems to me you're acting like a pathetic, whining little girl.

Tess: Oh, keep it up, Todd.  Really, because I'll put you back down on the floor again.

Todd: Oh.  Why don't you prove me wrong if you're such a fighter?  Why don't you fight back?  Why don't you call Nash?  Get him on the horn?  Tell him you've had it with him.  Tell him his letter sucks.  Tell him "if you love me, you'll stick by , and I will stick by you."  And you say "trust me, Nash."  And he'll love that.  That's all he'll need to hear.  No, you can believe me, man.  I lived it.  If Blair had meant it when she said that to me, I might be with her right now instead of running for my life.

Dorian: I did nothing to interfere. I even offered my assistance.  It's not my fault if Adriana refused it.  Oh, I think she's going to have a hard time getting Rex out of this one.

Blair: Hmm. Yeah, and I can see it's just tearing you up inside, isn't it?

Dorian: Well, she'll thank me someday.  Yes, I predict a mercifully rapid end to this relationship, which -- it would have only have caused her heartbreak.  What?

Blair: Are you always this smug and self-satisfied when one of your girls gets hurt by the man that they love, huh?  Because if that's true, Dorian, it's ugly.  It's really ugly.

Dorian: I just want my girls to be happy and healthy and in love.

Blair: With the man that you handpick for us?

Dorian: You're only human.  And human beings make mistakes.  Goodness knows, I've made mistakes. I -- you're certainly not going to blame me for wanting to protect you girls, to -- to share my experience so that you don't have to endure the kind of suffering that I have in my life.  And I'm not going to apologize for trying to protect you girls from -- from pain and heartbreak.

Blair: What happened to the non-interference policy, huh?

Dorian: I simply have let my feelings about Rex be known.  You know?  And I am certainly not going to relinquish my rights to my feelings.

Blair: Ok.  Enough about your feelings.  When have you ever had a positive opinion about any of us lately, huh?  Can you remember back that far?  See, I can't remember one, either, Dorian.  And you're right -- you do have a right to your feelings and your opinions.  But they've destroyed my relationship with you, and I think you're destroying your relationship with Adriana.  So congratulations, you win.  Just too bad you don't have anybody to share it with.

Man: I'm afraid you've left me no choice but to call the police.

Adriana: Wait a minute. Wait, wait.  Look.  You see this?  That is my name, right next to "assistant fashion editor."  And if you call the police, next month we'll do an in-depth expose on this place.  And when we're through, you'll be famous for bedbug infestation and food poisoning.

Man: That would be libel.  This is a five-star hotel.

Adriana: Not if I can find a couple of employees to go along with me.  Shouldn't be too hard if they have to answer to a jerk like you.

Man: Fine.  But you're out of here.

Rex: Yeah, no problem.  We're leaving.

Giovanni: Absolutely not.  Adriana is not going anywhere.

Clint: Now, wait a minute.  You can say whatever you want to me, but not in front of the lady.

Sam: Niki Smith, a lady?  Yeah, maybe on Halloween.

Clint: Well, that's where you're mistaken.  This is not Niki Smith, this is her twin sister.

Viki: Yeah, my name is Victoria Davidson.  We're actually -- we're looking for Niki.  She went missing a while ago.

Sam: Good riddance if you ask me.

Viki: Please, sir, it's -- it's really terribly important.  You see, my daughter Jessica -- she's -- she's very ill.  And we think that Niki may be the only one who can help her.

Sam: How?  She's not a doctor.

Viki: Well, it's complicated.  Jessica suffers from a -- it's a family illness, and the doctors need Niki's medical history.  Look, this could be a matter of life or death.

Clint: We know that Niki was in here asking questions about what happened years ago when she was a regular.

Viki: And -- and we're hoping to follow up and maybe meet some of her old acquaintances, you know?  People who knew her all that time ago, maybe find out where she is that way.

Clint: Look, we know that Niki was not exactly -- well, polite to you.  But now that you know how serious this, can you help us?

Hugh: Go ahead, Jack.  Give him the keys. Ms. Williamson's not going anywhere, not for a while. 

Natalie: Where the hell do you get off?

John: Didn't you get my message?

Evangeline: Uh -- I didn't have a chance to check.  I was indisposed.

[John sighs]

John: I'm almost afraid to ask, but what were you doing at that warehouse?

Evangeline: I think it's best for both of us that I don't answer that question -- or, for that matter, any question along those lines.

John: They hurt, don't they?

Evangeline: Yeah.

John: Hey, it's all right to be scared.

Evangeline: I've just -- I've never been arrested before.  I mean, my mother will be so proud.

John: I'll see if I can keep it off Layla's radar.

Evangeline: Thank you.

Giovanni: Do you have any idea what I had to do to get you invited to this aids benefit?  Donatella is hosting.  Paparazzi are everywhere.  It could make your career.  Hey, you have to go.

Adriana: I already told you, this is my night with Rex, and I am not letting anything get in the way of that.

Rex: It's no big deal.  I get tossed from places all the time.  Just go to the party.  I'll meet you there.

Man: Out, Balsom.  Before I change my mind and call the cops.

Rex: What about my stuff?

Man: Not to worry.  You'll get what's coming to you.

Giovanni: How about it?

Adriana: Yeah, sure, whatever.

Giovanni: Try the shoes.

[Phone rings]

Dorian: Dorian Lord.  Drugs?  Really, what were you thinking?

Man: You told me to separate your daughter from Balsom for the duration of the evening.  That's exactly what I did.

Dorian: I never said anything about planting drugs.

Man: You told me to spare you the details, remember?

Dorian: Listen up, you keep those drugs away from my daughter.

Man: Not a problem.  Ms. Cramer will never see those drugs again.  I'm sure of it.

Hugh: Ugh -- I don't like seeing Evangeline in cuffs any more than you do, but if let our friendship get in the way, then Todd could escape, and we both know what he's capable of.  The next person that crosses Manning might not be as lucky as John was.

Evangeline: Thank you.

John: Yeah.

Evangeline: We should probably be kind of careful about that whole thing.

Hugh: Time to go.  We got your cell downstairs ready.

John: I'll take her down.

Hugh: I don't think so.

John: What's your problem, man?

Evangeline: It's all right.  Thank you, John, but I'm ready.  Let's get to it.

John: Ok.  I'll come check in on you later.

Evangeline: Thank you.

John: You see where Natalie went?

Hugh: No.  You're just losing people everywhere, aren't you?  Left and right.  I hope you realize that I'm going to have to go at Evangeline full force.  I got 24 hours to break her, so to speak.  It's the only way to find Todd.

Tess: Why are you saying all this to me?  You're on Jessica's side.

Todd: That's right, I am.  But Jessica apparently needs you, and so does that baby.  So I have a vested interest in your happiness.

Tess: Whatever.  Thanks.

Todd: For what?

Tess: For giving me hell.  I'm not going to let Nash get away that easy.

Todd: Smart girl.

Tess: Good luck.

Todd: Yeah, you, too.

Sam: Niki wasn't your average barfly.  She got a lot of attention from a lot of different people.  But that was 20 years ago.

Viki: You don't remember anything?
