Clint: Niki? Viki? Is that you?
Viki: Oh, God, Niki was out.
Viki: How long?
Clint: A few days.
Viki: Days? Oh, my God. The last thing I remember, I was in the kitchen with you. Oh, my God, we had a terrible fight.
Clint: I know, and I'm sorry. That fight has been haunting me because I've been thinking that might be the reason that Niki came out.
Viki: No. No, no. It's never that simple with Niki, especially not this time around. What about Jessie? Is Jessie ok?
Clint: Well, Tess is firmly in control. She's in the hospital.
Nash: You did it. You fought Jessica, and you won. You're still here.
Tess: Because you were with me. You brought me back. If I had been by myself, I'd be gone right now, maybe forever.
Nash: I don't believe that.
Tess: Well, don't you get it, Nash? Every time we're together, every conversation, every kiss could be our last one, especially if Niki gets what she wants -- Niki and Clint and Viki and the whole crew of them.
Nash: We will figure out a way to keep you here forever. Whatever it takes, I promise you that.
Tess: Well, I hope you mean that because Clint and Niki are trying to do the exact opposite.
Rex: Dr. Miller?
Rex: Meet Linda Yahn, wife of Bob Yahn -- the lawyer who --
Paige: Right, right. Hello. Rex tells me that you might've found my records among your -- your late husband's things?
Linda: Yes, I did, yes. And I took the liberty of reading through them to make certain they contained the information you were looking for.
Linda: In this file, you will find the names of the couple who adopted your son, as well as the name they gave the little boy.
Blair: Thank God you came back to the D.A.'s office when you did.
Spencer: Take a seat, try to relax.
Blair: Do you know what he thinks? He thinks that I'm hiding Todd, that I'm involved in some escape plan of his.
Spencer: It was harassment.
Blair: Yeah, it was harassment. Then when I go outside, there's -- there's all that press there. I can't do anything, I can't go anywhere, I can't use my cell phone. They're staking out my car. All I want to do -- I just want it -- I just want it quiet. I want to be alone, and -- and when I am quiet, all I -- all I can think about is Todd and -- and that plane up there in the mountains and what he was thinking about.
Spencer: Listen, you're making yourself crazy, all right? You've got to try to stop thinking about it so much.
Blair: I don't know how I can do that, Spencer. I close my eyes and I think, did Todd know he was going to die? Was he thinking of me?
Spencer: All right, listen, you got to -- you can't live your life this way. You got to start thinking about your kids, your children, yourself.
Blair: Well, I'm not going to be able to do anything until I know what happened.
Spencer: It's not going to change anything. You have spent so much of your life trying to take care of that man. Now it's time to say goodbye once and for all, Blair, because the truth of the matter is Todd is dead.
Man: Commissioner Buchanan, over here!
Evangeline: My mind is working overtime conjuring up all kind of scenarios.
Natalie: Why hasn't Bo called? Why hasn't he given us any more information about what's going on?
Evangeline: I guess we'll just have to be patient.
Natalie: No, no, that's not going to be enough. I'm going to have to do something.
Evangeline: Like what? What are you going to do?
Natalie: I don't know. Maybe coffee will help. Do you want some?
Evangeline: No. Thanks.
Hugh: Sorry, sorry, sorry.
Natalie: Hugh, that hurt!
Hugh: I'm sorry, Natalie, I didn't see you.
Natalie: What are you wearing in there? Oh, my -- why do you -- why do you have a gun?
Evangeline: Please, God. Please let John be ok -- and Todd. You and I may be the only ones who haven't given up on him yet.
Second man: Just over this rise, Commissioner.
Bo: Ok, let's go.
Todd: Damn it, Mc Bain. This is all your fault.
Paige: Oh, I -- I've waited for this moment for so long, but now I -- I don't know, I just -- I want him to have had a good childhood, a good life.
Linda: My husband was a wonderful man, and he worked very hard to place every child in a good and loving home, so you don't need to worry that your son was -- I'm sorry, I'm presuming to tell you how to feel.
Paige: No, no, no, no, you're not presuming at all. You're -- you're very kind.
Linda: I'm not even sure it's legal for me to be giving you this information, but in my heart I feel it's the right thing to do.
Paige: Thank you.
Linda: I'll leave you alone with the file.
Rex: You can do this, Dr. Miller.
Paige: Can I?
Rex: You've wanted to know about your son for over 20 years, right? Now you can finally find out the truth.
Paige: I think I gave myself too much credit, Rex.
Rex: What do you mean?
Paige: I -- I thought that I could handle this. I thought I could face the truth and that I would somehow be a better person for it. I -- now I just don't know. I -- I don't know if I have the strength to find out the name of my son.
Hugh: I'm in a hurry, Natalie.
Natalie: No, Hugh, why do you have a gun?
Hugh: I've had a license to carry a firearm since I was 21 years old -- not that it's any of your business, thank you.
Nash: So, what, the minute you were of age, you ran out and got yourself one?
Hugh: Yeah, that's right.
Hugh: I have my reasons.
Natalie: That's not good enough, Hugh.
Hugh: For God's sake, Natalie --
Natalie: Well, did something happen to you when you were 21?
Hugh: Younger. When I was younger, something happened.
Natalie: You saw someone get shot?
Natalie: What, then?
Hugh: When I was 13 years old, my folks and I -- we were coming out of this store on our way to our car when this punk comes out and jumps us, and he holds a knife to my mom's throat, and he threatens to kill her if we don't give him all our money. So we did. Everything -- money, jewelry -- all of it. And even -- even after we'd given him everything, he punched my dad in the face -- broke his nose, knocked out some of his teeth. And at 13, all I could do was just stand there completely helpless.
Natalie: My God, I'm so sorry, that's awful.
Hugh: Yeah. So, from that day, right there and then I swore that I would never again be powerless to help those that I loved.
Natalie: So at the age of 21 --
Hugh: I applied for a license for a firearm, and six months later I got my first gun.
Hugh: Yeah, I -- I have one that I keep at home, and then this one I keep locked in my office.
Natalie: That still doesn't explain why you're carrying the gun right now.
Hugh: Interrogation is over.
Natalie: Hugh -- you're going after Todd Manning, aren't you?
Bo: John. It's Mc Bain! Fletcher, get the medics up here!
Ofc. Fletcher: Yeah, this is Fletcher. We need medics up here. We got Mc Bain. He's in pretty bad shape.
Bo: All right, spread out. I want you to and Manning. John? Hey, hey, John, can you hear me? Come on. Hey -- John?
Tess: I don't understand this. They kick me out of my room, but I still can't leave?
Tess: I -- you know what? I can't stay here. I have to go and find Clint.
Nash: Tess, we've been through this.
Tess: Nash, you don't seem to understand. If they find out the truth, then they'll tell Jessica, and then Jessica will integrat--
Nash: Yeah, and then Jessica will be integrated.
Tess: And that'll be the end of me.
Nash: You know, you keep telling me that I don't get it, but you won't listen to a word I say. Now, listen to me. As long as you're the one who's in control, Clint, Niki, Viki -- no one can tell Jessica anything. It --
Tess: What makes you so sure that I can stay in control, especially with Antonio hanging around?
Nash: Well, I guess it's a good thing that that fine fellow got his foot caught in a bear trap.
Tess: Couldn't have happened to a nicer person.
Nash: Hmm. I have faith in you.
Tess: Will you stop being such an optimist?
Nash: Right, because pessimism and paranoia is so much better.
Tess: Well, it's always worked for me, ok?
Tess: You're different. You like to believe that there's a good in people, and I know better, ok? I know that they're trying to get rid of me. I'm not fooled into thinking that they all love me -- except you.
Nash: Well, at least you realize that.
Tess: You just have to be realistic here. We have to go and find Clint and Niki, even if it means that I have to go to that awful bar myself.
Clint: I got a message from Nash. He said that she was having some false contractions.
Viki: You're sure she's all right?
Clint: According to the message, yeah, our daughter is fine -- physically.
Viki: Ok. What are we doing here?
Clint: First of all, Viki, I don't know everything.
Viki: Oh, just please tell me what Niki did.
Clint: Niki pretended to be you in order to get Jessica into the car, and when she did, she goaded her into becoming Tess.
Viki: Oh, my God.
Clint: We had a snowstorm that night, and later on it got -- it got pretty bad, and there was a car accident.
Clint: Fortunately, nobody was hurt. But Niki and Tess -- they went to this cabin, and by the time we found that out and the roads were clear, we got up there, nobody was there. We didn't know where either one of you were until Nash saw Tess hitchhiking, and he picked her up.
Viki: Tess was hitchhiking alone? Why?
Clint: They had separated because they had a fight.
Viki: About what? Do you know?
Clint: Niki wanted Tess to tell her her secret, Tess refused. They fought. Tess ended up hitchhiking. Niki came here.
Viki: Well, it's a bar, so, I mean, that figures, right?
Clint: Viki, she didn't come here to drink.
Viki: Then why?
Clint: This is the bar.
Viki: What do you mean?
Clint: This is where Niki used to bring Jessica when Jessie was just a little girl.
Officer: Say again -- what's your 20?
Paramedic: Fluids have started, B.P. is stable.
Second paramedic: A couple more minutes and we'd have lost him.
Bo: Is he going to be ok?
Paramedic: We won't know till we get him to a hospital, but he's breathing easily.
Officer: Commissioner, we found the pilot. He's alive, but he's in bad shape.
Paramedic: I'll go check him out.
Officer: This way.
Paramedic: I think he's coming to.
Bo: Yeah, right here.
John: What the hell happened?
Bo: It's ok, you just stay still right now, all right? What happened? Where's Manning?
John: He must've -- he must've cut the cuffs. He got away, Bo.
Bo: All right, that's ok, that's ok. We got some troopers sweeping the area, we've got aerial surveillance, roadblocks. He can't get too far.
John: Help me up.
Bo: No, no -- listen, stay right where you are.
John: Bo, listen to me, Manning's my prisoner. I'm going after him.
Bo: No, no, you're not. You're going to a hospital.
John: I -- I just -- I hit my head, Bo, that's all it is.
Bo: Now, look, right now you're hypothermic, ok? Isn't that right, doc?
John: Listen --
Paramedic: It's possible he might have some internal injuries.
John: Bo, I'm telling you I can -- I can do this.
Bo: No, I'm telling you, Lieutenant, you're going to get medevac'd, all right? It's Commissioner Buchanan. What's the 20 on that chopper?
Blair: How could you say something like that?
Spencer: Blair, listen --
Blair: How could you know that Todd's dead? How could anybody know that --
Spencer: You misunderstood --
Blair: No, I know what I heard, Spencer.
Spencer: All I'm trying to say is that there are two different possibilities. Listen, he was either killed in the plane crash or he was recaptured, at which point they're going to continue on taking him to death row. Either way --
Blair: Yeah, "either way." I know, I know. He's dead. I get that.
Spencer: I'm not telling you this to try to hurt you, Blair.
Blair: Yeah, and all this talk about death is just so comforting.
Spencer: I'm just trying to clarify what the possibilities are.
Blair: Well, you know what? There are other possibilities.
Spencer: Like what?
Blair: He could've survived. He could've escaped. He's done it before.
Officer: I sure could go for a cup of coffee.
Second officer: What do you think this is, a parade or something?
Rex: Aren't you going to open it?
Paige: I can't.
Rex: Look, I know this is none of my business, but the way I see it, 26 years ago, you created a life. And now by just opening that folder, you can finally have access to that person -- the life you created. Why would you deny yourself that?
Paige: Rex, you can do it.
Paige: Yes, you can -- you can go find my son and see how he's doing and report back to me. I'll pay you anything you want.
Rex: No, no, it's -- it's not about the money. Look, helping you track down your son was one thing, but the next part -- going to see him, finding out what he's up to, how he's doing -- has to be you. You're never going to make peace with yourself about what happened if you don't do the next part on your own.
Paige: I'm probably never going to make peace with it, anyway.
Rex: Look, you can't think that way. It's not like -- look, you and Bo seem to be doing really well. Maybe someday you'll have other kids, right?
Paige: It's -- it's not likely.
Rex: Oh. Uh -- sorry.
Paige: Me, too. I think that's why I'm -- I'm obsessing about this so much. I realize that my son might be the only child I ever have. But you're -- you're right, I'm just being a coward.
Rex: Give yourself a break, huh? This is a big deal, this is your kid. For all these years you've -- you've wondered about him, worried about him, and now he's about to become a real person. It's not like you're expecting anything from all this. You just want to make sure that he's happy, at he's doing ok.
Paige: What if he's not?
Rex: Well, then you'll help him because that's the kind of person you are. I know -- I have a sense about these things.
Paige: You are so amazing. Thank you so much. I can completely see why Bo likes you so much.
Rex: He does? I -- I kind of got that.
Rex: Did he tell you he likes me?
Paige: He tells me all the time. You're like a son to him.
Rex: Oh, yeah, well, he's like a -- he's grown on me, too.
Paige: I'm sure he'll be really glad to hear that.
Rex: Dr. Miller, you're going to be fine with all this. You're a strong woman. Whatever happens, you can handle it.
Paige: Thank you.
Blair: Oh, Bo. I wish you were here.
Bo: Enjoy your ride. Let's go, guys.
Hugh: Todd Manning is on the loose, and I'm going to help bring him in.
Natalie: You're not a cop.
Hugh: I am an officer of the law. It's my duty to help in any way that I can.
Natalie: You sure this isn't something personal?
Hugh: I prosecuted Todd, put my blood, sweat, and tears into getting him convicted, and I'll be damned if I'm going to let him escape justice now.
Natalie: You don't even know if Todd's alive.
Hugh: I'm not going to take any chances. I owe it to Margaret and especially to her unborn child who never had a chance at life. Todd has to pay for that.
Natalie: I agree. But I still think you should let the police handle this.
Hugh: Chances are Todd caused that plane crash. John Mc Bain could be dead right now because of him. Todd has to answer for that. Don't say anything about the gun -- she'll make way too big a deal out of it, all right? Ahem.
Evangeline: Is everything ok?
Hugh: Yeah. Fine.
Evangeline: You two look like something's going on.
Natalie: It's -- we're -- we're just worried about John.
Evangeline: John is fine. He has to be.
Bo: Evangeline, it's Bo. Look, I don't have a lot of time, but I just wanted you to know that John is alive, and he's being flown to Llanview hospital right now.
Evangeline: Oh, thank you.
Evangeline: Thank you. John is alive. He's alive!
Spencer: I suppose it's possible Todd escaped. So let's say for a moment that -- that he did, that he survived the plane crash. He's still going to be recaptured, Blair. Then what? You said you were ready to move on with your life. Don't tell me you've changed your mind again.
Blair: I haven't changed my mind about anything. Come on, Spencer, I think I'm entitled to be just a little bit upset that the father of my children, my ex-husband, may have died in a plane crash.
Spencer: Sure you're entitled. It's a miracle you haven't lost your mind already. That's why I just -- I want you to try to keep this situation in perspective.
Blair: I don't know if I can do that.
Spencer: Well, that's why you have me. Listen, I feel terrible about what's happened to Todd. I really do. But now it's affected you and the children, and it's so sad and it's unfair, but the man committed murder in cold blood, and now he has to pay the price for it. You, on the other hand, have done nothing. So when are you going to quit punishing yourself for Todd's sins?
Ofc. Wallace: I've got you, Manning. I've got you.
Todd: Yeah, right. My grandmother, she lives in this senior complex.
Tess: Nash, please don't argue with me, ok? I have to go to that bar and stop Clint and Niki.
Nash: You are pregnant. Think about your baby.
Tess: Pregnant women get upset all the time and have healthy babies. I am doing this, and nothing you can say is going to stop me.
Nash: All right. All right, look -- I'm sure that the answer will be no, but I got to ask anyway. Do you want to tell me about it? I think you can trust me to not tell anyone else. Please, come on.
Tess: I know I can trust you. It's not about that.
Tess: I -- I just -- I can't talk about it, ok? I -- I just -- I don't want to. But I do want to go and find Clint and Niki now.
Nash: Wait. There's an easier way to get to them.
Viki: This -- this is the bar?
Clint: Yeah, this is the place that Jessie started to tell us about under hypnosis.
Viki: Where Tess first came out.
Viki: Oh, my God, what happened to her here?
Clint: Something unspeakable.
Viki: We have to find out what it is.
Nash: Mr. Buchanan, it's Nash Brennan. Did you get my message about Tess?
Clint: Yes. You said she was ok.
Nash: Yeah, yeah, she's fine. Actually -- that's not entirely true.
Clint: Well, what's wrong with her?
Viki: Who is it?
Clint: It's Nash.
Nash: Well, physically she's -- she's ok, but she's -- she's very upset about you being at that bar. That is where you are, right?
Clint: Yeah, I am.
Nash: How about Niki? Did you find her?
Clint: Yeah, I did. She's Viki now.
Nash: Oh, that's great, great. Did you find out anything about Tess?
Clint: No, nothing yet.
Nash: They're at the bar, Niki's Viki, they haven't found anything out.
Tess: Let me talk to Viki.
Nash: You sure?
Tess: Tell Clint to put her on the phone.
Nash: Tess would like to talk to Viki.
Clint: It's Tess.
Viki: Thank you. Tess?
Viki: Look, I'm -- I'm very, very sorry for what Niki put you through. Thank God you're all right.
Tess: Do you really mean that?
Viki: That I'm sorry? Of course I do.
Tess: Then turn around and come home -- now.
Natalie: Something's wrong, it's way too quiet.
Evangeline: That could be a good thing.
Hugh: They're airlifting John from the mountain. The staff's probably out waiting on the helipad for him.
Natalie: Maybe --
Natalie: You don't even know what I was going to say.
Evangeline: "Maybe we should go upstairs and wait for the chopper." Am I warm?
Natalie: I wouldn't have said "chopper."
Evangeline: We need to stay put, ok? It's enough that we're here.
Natalie: Well, did my uncle say what kind of condition John's in?
Evangeline: I told you -- he said that John's alive and that's it. I mean, he's in the middle of a manhunt.
Hugh: Excuse me, I will call Bo and see if I can get any more information, ok?
Natalie: Thank you.
Evangeline: It's deja vu -- the two of us sitting around waiting for news.
Natalie: Yeah, it is.
Natalie: What if our luck has run out? What if -- what if John doesn't make it?
Evangeline: That's not even in the realm of possibility.
Natalie: Yeah, it is, Evangeline. People die. No amount of positive thinking is going to change that.
Evangeline: John's not ready.
Natalie: So what?
Evangeline: So everything. Can you picture the world without him in it?
Natalie: I just don't want John to die thinking that I hate him.
Natalie: What the hell?
Evangeline: Natalie, John knows you still love him. Everyone knows.
Natalie: What is that supposed to mean?
Evangeline: You and I? We're not very good at hiding our feelings -- except from ourselves.
Bo: Make sure you document all of this, ok? Thanks. This is the Commissioner. I haven't heard from anybody for a while. What do you got for me?
Officer: Well, we swept the west and the south access road. Not a sign.
Second officer: The pilot's stable. We just got him medevac'd out.
Officer: Commissioner! Commissioner, this could be something.
Bo: Oh, yeah, that's definite something. This is from Manning's prison fatigues. Get a dog -- here you go, fella, here you go. Take a good sniff of that, all right? Now, I want you to find me the guy that was wearing this.
Blair: You're right about all of it. I think we should just -- we should go back to before.
Spencer: "Back?" What do you mean, "back?"
Blair: Before we found out about the plane crash. Before I -- I wasn't feeling so conflicted. Spencer, I'm just so, so tired. I'm tired of -- of being alone. I'm tired of being angry. Why aren't you saying anything?
Spencer: I just want to make sure you really mean it this time.
Blair: Well, if you don't believe me, maybe you'll believe this.
Paige: You can do this.
Natalie: Dr. Miller --
Evangeline: Is there any news?
Natalie: We heard he's been airlifted.
Evangeline: John? Thank God.
Natalie: He's going to be ok, isn't he?
John: You should be a psychic.
Natalie: A psychic?
John: You said something bad was going to happen.
Paige: All right, out of the way, please.
Doctor: He's hypothermic, Dr. Miller, but his vitals seem to be ok.
Paige: Are you in pain?
John: No, not now.
Doctor: No indications of internal injuries so far.
Todd: If you don't believe me, ask Spencer Truman's ex-wife, Paige Miller.
John: Paige Miller?
Todd: Yeah, that's right. She came to Statesville tonight, and she said she thinks I've been set up.
John: By Truman. Truman killed Margaret.
Bo: Freeze, Manning! Over here! God, it's Wallace. He's still alive. Come on, give me a hand with him. Let's get him to the hospital.
Officer: I'm on it, Commissioner.
Bo: All units, be advised -- Manning is now wearing a Marshal's uniform. I say again, Manning is wearing a Marshal's uniform.
Paige: Well, your vitals are normal, so there's no cause for any immediate concern, but we are going to continue to monitor you. What you really need now is a lot of rest.
Paige: Dr. Corrigan is going to stay with you, and I'll be back soon.
Natalie: You don't know how good it is to see you.
Evangeline: Are you in any pain?
John: No. I'm just kind of out of it. Head's spinning, and I'm a little cold.
Evangeline: What about Todd? Did he survive the crash?
John: Yes, he did.
Evangeline: Where is he?
John: I don't know.
Hugh: You better figure that out, Mc Bain. Because if Todd Manning isn't caught -- and soon -- I'm going to see to it that you're held personally responsible for his escape.
Tess: If you do care about me and you're not just saying it, then you'll leave the bar, you'll come home now.
Viki: Look, Tess, we need to find out the truth.
Tess: I don't want to hear it.
Viki: But it could help you.
Tess: Either you love me or you don't. That's the way I see it. And if you love me, if you care about me at all, you will stop digging into my past.
Viki: She wants us to drop this, leave here.
Clint: What do you want to do?
Viki: I think we should. I mean, we know where the bar is now. If the truth is here, it'll still be here when we come back.
Clint: Yeah, but I'm afraid the longer that we wait, the stronger Tess will become.
Viki: Well, Tess is our daughter, too. And I really think that right now we should just do as she asks.
Nash: Well, what do you think Viki will do?
Tess: All she's ever done is let me down. I don't know. I can't see it being any different now.
Nash: Maybe she'll surprise you.
Tess: Hmm. Yeah, maybe.
Nash: Hey, you're feeling better, right? No more contractions? No more --
Nash: No? Well, what are we doing hanging out in a hospital?
Tess: Let's blow this joint.
Nash: Let's! Let me see what I can do about getting you out of here.
Natalie: Hugh, I think John has been through enough for one day, so why don't you back off?
Hugh: There's a sociopath out there. A dangerous, murdering sociopath.
Natalie: Ok, yeah, we know, we know, we know, we know, we know, we know --
Natalie: But you're going to shut up, ok?
Natalie: You owe me on this one, don't you think?
John: It's ok. Let him do whatever it is he has to do. I take full responsibility for what happened on that plane.
Paige: It can't be. I already know him.
Nash: Excuse me, nurse? What are the chances of me getting her out of here now?
Paige: My son is standing right over there.
Natalie: Look, don't worry about Hugh. He's just talking to hear himself talk.
Evangeline: Just concentrate on getting better.
John: Could I have a phone, please? I need to speak to Bo. It's important.
Bo: All right, everybody has a description of what Manning's wearing.
Bo: I want updates every 10 minutes. Buchanan.
John: Bo, it's me.
Bo: John, what are you doing?
John: There's something I have to tell you. I should've told you earlier, but I was kind of out of it.
John: It's Manning. He's convinced he's -- he's convinced he was set up.
Bo: Yeah, I know -- he's been saying that all along.
John: Yeah, but he's also saying Paige has proof.
Blair: Help me. Help me let go of Todd. Spencer, just help me move on.
On the next "One Life to Live" --
Cristian: Is John ok?
Rex: Well, see for yourself.
Evangeline: It isn't as if you let Todd go. You're so sure he's a cold-blooded killer.
John: What if Manning didn't do it?
Paige: Blair, it's Paige Miller. We need to talk.
Blair: My God, it's Todd.
