Adriana: Everyone left.

Rex: Did they?  I hadn't noticed.

Adriana: So what are we supposed to do now?

Rex: I've got a few ideas.

Adriana: Good.  I have a few of my own.

David: Hey.

Denton: What's your problem, Moe?

David: You said something that's got me pretty curious.

Denton: I didn't say squat to you.

David: Sure you did.  Said something about a guy covering a murder he didn't even commit.

Denton: Is this on the record?  What, am I one of your new cover models?  Not that I don't deserve to be.

David: Why would Todd Manning pay you to cover for him if he was innocent the whole time?

Denton: Listen, Pally, I'll tell you the same thing I say to all my employers -- you make it worth my while and I'll sing like a canary bird.

Clint: Sit down, get some weight off that ankle, all right?

Nash: No, there's no time, all right?  I got to save Tess.  She could be out there freezing to death.

Clint: Nash, we've been looking all day.  It is time for us to regroup.  Besides, Antonio is out there with the other rangers and if they find anything, they'll call.

Nash: Tess is out in those woods.  I'm not giving up until I can look her in the eyes and assure her that she's the only woman I'm in love with!

Clint: You know, you may not want to admit it, Nash, but Tess is not the only woman that you have feelings for.

Niki: Hey, look what I found. Isn't this cool?  Man, it's cold in here.  What, you too lazy to throw a log on the fire?  Kid, we're going to freeze to death if you don't keep that fire going.

Niki: Well, trail's all snowed over.  Can't even tell which path goes back to the main road, which one goes to some bear's cave.

[Niki sighs]

Niki: Oh, come on.  You can't just sit there and stew.  You got to talk to me sometime, you know?

Tess: The hell I do.

Niki: Come on.  What, are we going to do this all over again?  "Everything's your fault, Niki.  The reason I'm so screwed up, it's all your fault, but I'm not going to tell you what happened to me.  I'm just going to sit here and keep my whining trap shut."  This silent routine's getting old real quick, you know?

Niki: All right, you can drop the cold shoulder.  I already know what happened to you.

Bo: You said that there was something you wanted to tell me.  What is it?

Paige: I -- I don't know where to start.

Bo: It's ok, because I think I have a prey y good guess what this is all about.  It's Spencer, isn't it?  Look, whatever he did, you can tell me.  You know that, right?

Blair: This isn't right.

Spencer: What, what's not right?

Blair: I know that I told you that I wanted to come here because I didn't think that I would be able to face the penthouse with all of Todd's stuff, but coming here and -- and leaning on you like this, it --

Spencer: Blair, I wouldn't have it any other way.

Reporter: She's over here.  Ms. Cramer, how do you feel about your fiancée --

[Reporters shout]

Blair: Leave me alone!

Nash: Now, this is insane.  First, Tess thinks that I'm falling for Jessica, now you're telling me the same thing?

Clint: I am saying that Tess is a part of Jessica and they can't be separated no matter how much you might want to.

Nash: Not for me.  I barely even know Jessica, all right?  I've a had a couple of conversations with her and once in a while, yeah, I get a glimpse of the woman that I fell in love with, but Jessica is not Tess.

Clint: Nash, you're not listening to me.

Nash: No, and I'm not even interested.  I don't care what you or Mrs. Davidson or the doctor tell me, your Jessie is not my Tess.

Clint: She will be someday.  Integration is inevitable and Jessica is going to keep searching for the truth.  And it may take months, it may even take years, but eventually the real story is going to come out.

Nash: What about when you went through the same thing with Mrs. Davidson?  Did you find it easy to fall in love with her.

Clint: Of course, yeah, I love Viki.

Nash: Not Viki.  Niki.

Tess: So now you know my secret?  What happened to, "I don't remember?"  "I don't know what you're talking about"?  So you've been playing games with me ever since we left Capricorn?  Really?  So, if you already knew my secret, why have you been on my back to get me to spill my guts?  Niki, you're a liar.  You have no idea what happened at that bar.

Niki: Oh, can it!  We both know exactly what happened at the bar.  Some guy went after Jessica when my back was turned, right?  That's it, ain't it?

Spencer: Could you kindly have security remove the reporters from the lobby and from my floor ASAP?  Yes, and another thing -- Ms. Cramer and I do not wish to be disturbed for the rest of the evening.  Understand?  Thank you.  There.  All taken care of.

Blair: I don't know what to say.  I already owe you so much.

Spencer: You don't owe me anything, and you certainly don't have to thank me.  I'm very happy to be here for you, Blair.

Blair: Well.  Here I am.

Spencer: Yep.  Here you are.

Bo: So what's Spencer done now?  He do something that upset you?  Hmm?  Ok, if you don't want to tell me, I'll find out . Where is Spencer?

Paige: No, no, no.  Don't -- don't go to Spencer now, please.

Bo: This is about the baby, isn't it?

Paige: The baby?  How -- how do you know?

Bo: Well, how does Spencer know about his son?

Paige: His son?

Bo: Well, your son.  The baby we're looking for now, or, what, is there -- is there some other baby now?

Spencer: You know, we don't have to stay here.  We could -- we could go out someplace, get a bite to eat, take a drive.

Blair: You kidding?  I don't want to go out there, all the whispering.  I just want to stay inside, someplace safe, where no one and nothing can get to me.

Spencer: You're not the one who's in prison, Blair.

Blair: I know.  It's ridiculous.  I'm not completely helpless, but right now I'm afraid to walk out the door.  I mean, look at me.  I'm a complete disaster.

Spencer: Perfectly natural reaction for someone having to go through something that no person should ever have to go through.

Blair: Couldn't even face my own kids.  Had to send them off to some ski resort, sleepover.

Spencer: Look, you sent them away so you could regain your strength for them, all right, and also so you could be strong for whatever comes next.

Blair: Well, I can tell you what's going to happen next.  I'm going to have to tell them.  And I don't know if I can do it.

Spencer: I think you can.  You have me to lean on.

Paige: Please, Bo, don't -- don't ask me any more questions right now.  I just -- I need a moment to think.

Bo: Ok, all right.  Just take your time and start at the beginning.

Paige: It's not about my son.

Bo: Ok.  What is it about?

Paige: Spencer called me in to, uh -- to deliver a baby.  It was a boy, and the birth was difficult.  We weren't sure if the mother and the child were going to make it.  But they are.  They're fine.  They're going to be fine.

Bo: Good.  Good.  But what's got you so worked up?

Paige: Well, Spencer -- he said things to me.

Bo: Things that made you think that he knew about your son?

Paige: It was just my imagination.  Really, it was my mind playing tricks on me.

Bo: Yeah, but, see, you know what, I hate it when he does stuff like this, I mean, even if it's unintentional.

Paige: Bo?  I love you.  I love being with you.  And I just -- I'm scared that this, um -- this thing is going to come back and hurt us somehow.

Bo: Ok.  You think that if we find your son that's going to affect us?  You know that I will support you, and that's whatever you want.

Paige: I do, I know that.

Bo: I just don't -- I don't like it when all of a sudden Spencer's mucking around in your life, just like he's doing in everybody else's life, seems like.

Paige: What do you mean?

Bo: Well, I talked to Manning after the sentencing.  He's sure that Spencer's up to something.

Paige: And what -- what do you think?

Bo: I agree.  I just -- I don't trust the guy.  But as long as he doesn't try to put you right in the middle of something, I -- I'll be all right.

Adriana: Under the shirt?

Rex: Yeah.

Adriana: But over the bra?

Rex: Or under.  It's up to you.

Rex: Careful, it's sensitive.

Adriana: Can't believe you're taking classes to learn how these things work.

Rex: Well, not classes, more like seminars -- Snitch-Wiring 101.  Can't get my P.I. license without it.

Adriana: Um, I guess I need a seminar, too.

Rex: Need help?

Adriana: Yeah, I do.

Adriana: Now I can be your eyes and ears.

Rex: You can be my everything.

Denton: Go on.  Make me an offer I can't refuse.

David: I'm between engagements.

Denton: That's a shame.  You're passing on a powerful source of information here, Pally.

David: You said that you had employers, plural.  I know you don't work at "The Sun" any longer -- though I can't imagine why.  Who do you work for now?

Denton: I work for myself.  But listen, Pally, no pay, no say.  The only thing I will say is this -- Todd Manning is definitely on his way to meet his maker, whether or not he iced that Cochran broad.  I'm telling you something, Pally, powerful forces are at work here.  There's something rotten in the state of Senmark.

David: Oh, I smell something rotten, all right.

Paige: I'm sorry I lost it like that.

Bo: It's ok.

Paige: Please don't say anything to Spencer.  I -- I just reacted because, I don't know, when I saw him there with that baby in his arms, it was -- it was like I was seeing him with my son, and that's something I swore I would never let happen.

Bo: Well, it's understandable, though, under the circumstances.

Paige: Can we just forget about this whole thing?

Bo: We sure can.

[Phone rings]

Bo: If that's what you want to do, we sure can.  It's the department.  I got to take this out there, ok, because this might be about Viki and Jess.

Paige: Ok.

Paige: Oh, God.

David: Hey, you got a minute?

Paige: No, David, I don't.  I don't have any time for you, so just get out of my office and get out of my life.

Spencer: Sure I can't get you something else?

Blair: No, this is -- this is good.  You know, I want you to know that I haven't always been a basket case.  Believe it or not, there was a time that I used to take on the world.

Spencer: Oh, I think you probably still can.

Blair: I remember when nothing would stand in my way of what I wanted -- not family, not friends.  If I saw something I wanted, I just reached out and I grabbed it.  When I met Todd, I met my match.  Drove me crazy and -- I couldn't turn away from it, though, you know?  Seems like no matter what anyone told me, I knew that no one would ever see me the way that Todd saw me.  He knew I was bad, but he loved me anyway.  I think he loved me because of that.  We were the same that way.  But I don't know about now.  If I were in Todd's position, would I be able to kill that woman?

Spencer: I don't think you could.  It's not your nature.

Blair: Yeah.  Something really dark -- really dark inside Todd, and he just can't escape it.  But I always thought that there was something in our love that was strong enough to overcome anything.  But I've never been so wrong about anything in my entire life.

Clint: You know something?  My situation with Viki was way different than yours.

Nash: I don't see how.  You're in love with half a woman, just like I am now.

Clint: I fell in love with the original woman.  You fell in love with the alter.

Nash: Yes, the original, but she wasn't integrated, was she?  So tell me, was it easy for you to fall in love with Niki Smith and all these other alters who were running around your house?  Because after all, they were other parts of Viki.

Clint: Nothing about it was easy!  And how dare you talk about my marriage, which you know nothing about.  Niki Smith put me and my family through absolute agony.  She used me and plotted against me, and all the while I was trying to save the woman who gave me the best years of my life.  Viki and the kids were everything to me, and when I lost them, I lost a part of myself that I've -- I've never been able to get back.  You talk about how much you love Tess, and that is all well and good.  But it's not the same.  Viki and I had a relationship that lasted for years.  We had a marriage, we had family, a life.

Ranger: Mr. Buchanan?  We found something.

Tess: You think you have all the answers.  You don't know a thing.

Niki: I got this answer, kid.  Look, I know all about where this, you know, sickness that we got, where it comes from.  It's repeated sexual abuse.  You're talking to the expert, remember?

Tess: I am not about to discuss this with you.

Niki: Yeah, well, you don't have to because it don't take a degree in psycho mumbo-jumbo to know that sometime, somewhere some creep went after Jessica.

Tess: Shut up.

Niki: Come on.  What'd he do?  What'd he do?  He touched you, kissed you?

Tess: Please stop!

Niki: Did he tell you he'd love you if you keep your mouth shut?

Tess: Stop it.

Niki: Oh, yeah, that's it.  Some son of a bitch went after Jessica and tried to rip every last bit of little girl out of her.  Same as Victor Lord did to me and Viki.  And the only way to survive it is to make sure it happens to somebody else, you know, somebody who can survive it.  That's you, Tess.  That's me.  That's us.

Tess: I told you, you don't know anything.  You think you know what happened to Jessica?  What, you think that some jerk got his paws on her and suddenly she started to split?

Niki: That's about the size of it, ain't it?

Tess: Wrong!  That's not what happened.  What happened to Jessica, what happened to me -- it's a hell of a lot worse than anything Victor Lord did to Viki.  It's a hell of a lot worse than anything that you could possibly think of.  You think you know where I came from?  You don't have the first clue.

Tess: That's because it's the truth.  What happened to Jessica, what happened because of you is way worse than anything you could possible imagine.

Niki: Wait a minute.  Wait a minute.  You mean because of Viki.

Tess: No!  I mean because of you.  As far as I'm concerned, it's all your fault. You know, and I know that you'd really like to blame Viki for all of this, but she's not here now, is she?  No.  She's deep inside, isn't she?  And I sure do know what that's like.  She's struggling to get out, fighting to break through, to breathe again.

Niki: What the hell do you think I've been doing my whole damn life?  More to the point, what do you think Miss Victoria was doing?  You know what she was doing?  She was walking around pretending to be the perfect wife and mother.  All the time she's blacking out, losing time, and she doesn't tell anybody.

Tess: So what?

Niki: "So what?"  She should've been protecting her kid!  She should've looked after you, saved you from all those monsters out there.

Tess: Monsters you turned me over to!

Niki: No, kid, not me!  I was doing back then what I was born to do, and that was to look after me, myself, and Viki!  I was the first line of defense, ok, the bench player that gets brought out soon as the pressure was too much, and back then that was a full-time gig.  Last thing I had time for was to look after them messed-up brats of hers.

Niki you can hate me all you want.  You can do it now because you get the whole split-personality thing, but I want you to think back, ok?  You're 5 years old and you're in a bar.  Some guy comes up to you and he does whatever the hell he did to you.  Who you mad at, kid, huh?  Who are you crying to help you, to take you home and get you out of there?  Me?  No, it was your mother, Viki.

Adriana: So what about this part?   How does this work?

Rex: Oh, it's very complicated.  Here, let me show you.

Rex: Advanced earpiece.  It's a whole nother semester.

Adriana: I think it's really great that you're doing this -- becoming a P.I., I mean.

Rex: Really?

Adriana: I always thought you were cut out to do something important.

Rex: I need to go do something real quick.  Don't go anywhere, ok?

Adriana: Ok.

Rex: Ok.

Adriana: You know, it's not just that you're doing something amazing with your life, helping people.

[Music plays]

Adriana: And it's not just the way you look at me or how all I want to do is fall asleep in your arms.  On second thought, maybe not sleep.  I've never felt so safe and so confused at someone all at the same time, like anything could happen and it'd be ok.  You start think I'm really lame standing here talking into this microphone.  I'm sure the only reason I can say these things is because you're on the other side of the club and I don't have to say them to your face or look into your eyes.

Rex: It's ok.  You don't have to say anything else.  It was perfect.

Blair: I can't do this.  I got to do something.

Spencer: Can't do what?  What are you talking about?

Blair: I just feel like I'm here drowning in my own life.  I need to do something.

Spencer: Well, just tell me, Blair.  Anything you need, whatever it is, just let me know.

Blair: I think starting with a nice, hot shower.

Spencer: I can accommodate you with that.

Blair: Ok.

Spencer: Come on, this way.  I think you will find everything you need inside.

David: I think you should just go ahead, let it out, whatever it is.  If you can't unload on your ex-brother-in-law, who can you unload on?

Paige: You know I can't.  Could you tell me about the -- the photograph that I heard you and Spencer arguing about?  No, because Spencer is pulling our strings and ruining our lives, and I'm sick of it!  I'm so sick of it I could just scream!

David: Well, not any louder than I could.  Look at us.  This is ridiculous.  We're a couple of intelligent people, aren't we?  I mean, you're a doctor.  You're chief of staff at a hospital, for crying out loud.  And look at me.  I'm -- I'm an adult male sharing the same chromosomes.  Right?

Paige: What is your point?

David: We've got to stop frustrating one another.  Tell me what it is that Spencer did.  We'll put our heads together, we'll come up with some sort of plan together.  We'll beat him together, all right?  So tell me, secret for secret, what did he do?

Nash: Yeah, it's Jessica's.  Have you shown it to Antonio?

Ranger: Vega's on the east side of the area.  We found this in the northwest quadrant.

Nash: All right, I'm going back out there.

Clint: No, you are not going anywhere, Nash.  You're no good to anybody with a bad ankle.  You're staying here.

Nash: I can't just sit here and do nothing.

Clint: You're going to have to.  We can't afford to lose somebody in the snow, all right?  I know how much she means to you.  I'll keep you posted.

Tess: No way.  Viki's not to blame for any of this.  This is all you.

Niki: That's bull.

Tess: Viki's not the one that threw Jessica in that car and dragged her to that bar over and over again.  She begged you not to take her there.  She hated it.  She hated it so much that she blacked out the second she got there and I had to take over.  If you had just listened, if you had just given a damn.  That's the problem, isn't it?  You're so selfish.  You want what you want no matter what the costs are.

Niki: You're damn right I do.  Because I got a life to lead.  So do you.  What the hell was I supposed to do with a kid?  The only reason I took you with me is because she stuck me with you.  Like I was supposed to babysit?  Damn it, I was there to have fun.  And why wouldn't I?  I had little enough chance to do it.  I spent most of my life dealing with Viki's bad news.

Tess: It should've mattered to you that there was a child involved, and don't give me that "I'm an alter" crap because I'm an alter, too, and it would've mattered to me.

Niki: Ok, wait a minute.  I have a memory coming back.  Ooh, it's one of Viki's memories.  Last year, R.J. Gannon's apartment, huh?  You're smoking a cigarette, you set the place on fire, you almost killed Bolonio's brat!  Did a child matter to you then?

Tess: That was different.

Niki: Oh.

Tess: That was different.  I didn't -- I didn't understand what it was like to be responsible for another life.

Niki: Right.  You didn't understand it then, I didn't get it way back then.  Don't you get it?  I was not born to be a mother!  I was born for one reason and one reason only -- same as you, kid -- to look out for number one.  Because Viki and Jessica couldn't do it.

Tess: Viki was sick.  She's -- she was sick.

Niki: Mm-hmm.

Tess: She just let her alters destroy her daughter's life.

Niki: I'm sorry, kid.  I'm really sorry.  I know you've been holding a grudge against me your whole life, but, you know, you've been barking up the wrong tree.  If you want somebody to pay, you go collect from your mother.

Paige: You don't understand, David.  This isn't just about me anymore.  Bo is involved now.  He's involved in it, too.

David: Exactly.  That's why if we tell the chief of police about this murder we've been hiding for 20 years, he can help us get something on Spencer.  Wow, that's a really bad idea.  I'm sorry, Paige, we're going to have to think of something else.

Paige: Look, I appreciate your wanting to help, I do, but I need to figure this out by myself, and if I come up with something I will call you, I promise, but right now I think we need to handle it on our own.

David: This has something more to do than just the murder and your son, doesn't it?  You've got Bo involved.

Paige: I'm sorry, I can't say.

David: Paige, it doesn't have to be like this.  If you change your mind, you know where I am.  Actually, maybe you don't.  I'm at the angle square hotel, between the ice machine and the alley.  Ice machine hasn't worked in over two weeks.

Bo: What was Vickers doing here?

Paige: Bo, I'm -- I'm scared.

Bo: About what?

Paige: I'm afraid that this -- this baby will destroy us.

Bo: No.  Oh, honey.  Look, whatever happens, wherever your son is, whatever kind of a man that he's grown up to be, we're going to be ready.  It's not going to come between us because nothing can now.  All right?  I promise you.

Spencer: Hey.  Feel better?

Blair: A little.  I actually hoped that I could wash the courtroom or Statesville off of me, but no such luck.

Spencer: I think your expectations were probably a little bit too high.

Blair: Yeah.  Seems like every time I close my eyes, I would hear the gavel pounding, hear the judge, and my chest always just seemed to close up on me.

Spencer: Yeah, it's going to take some time, but all those memories will fade away.

Blair: I don't want to waste any more time.  I just want it over.  But you can't make that happen, can you?

[Music plays]

Rex: So you really liked the party?

Adriana: Of course I did.  Why wouldn't I?

Rex: I don't know.  I wasn't so sure you'd be big on the idea.  That was some lecture you gave me about not getting involved in your --

Adriana: I thought we were dancing, not talking.

Nash: Hey, did you find her?  Because, look, my ankle is fine, it's good to go!  You point me in the right direction, I'm there!

Clint: I don't think we need to go looking anymore.  I think we found them.

Nash: Where are they?

Clint: We went on the trail where they found the bracelet and there was this chimney in the distance and smoke was coming out of it.

Nash: Did you go in?

Clint: No, we couldn't get to it.  There's a landslide.  We're going to need equipment to get it out of the way and we can do that tomorrow.

Nash: I'll get over the rocks.  Look, where there's smoke, there's fire, right?

Clint: Wait, Nash.  At least we know exactly where they are.

Niki: Look, it ain't like I got no heart, ok?  I feel for you.  I really do.  Obviously, you went through some kind of hell.  If I were you, I sure would want to crucify the person who put me there.

Tess: I thought that's what I was doing.  But now that I know what the real deal is, I know exactly who to hate.

Niki: Victoria.

Tess: Victoria.

Bo: I'll see you at home?

Paige: Yeah.  See you there.

Spencer's voice: Is it worth ruining Bo Buchanan's life?

Blair: I'm so tired.  I'm afraid to close my eyes.

Spencer: Here, close your eyes.  Just -- just try it.

Blair: Oh, Spencer --

Spencer: Come on, it's ok.  Just for a minute.  You know, Blair, I wish that I could erase all of the things that have happened over the last few months from your mind, but I can't.  All I can do is try to comfort you and be here for you and hope that when you close your eyes tonight to go to sleep, you'll wake up in the morning and realize that the whole world is not against you.  You know, I remember so vividly the very first time I laid eyes on you, and it just seemed so -- so familiar, as if I had recognized something, if I recognized all of the qualities that I could ever desire and hope for in a woman -- resilience and inner strength, integrity, outer beauty.  All those things wrapped up in one perfect person.

Spencer: Those are the things that I see when I look at you.  And I always will.

On the next "One Life to Live" --

Cristian: You got past all the stuff with John, huh?

Bo: What did you want?

John: My job back.

David: You don't even know Todd that well.  Why are you taking this so personally?

Todd: I don't want to appeal.

Evangeline: If we don't appeal, you're going to die.
