Judge: Will the defendant please stand? In the charge of murder in the first degree, how do you find?
Foreman: We the people of the commonwealth of Pennsylvania find the defendant, Todd Manning, guilty.
[Judge pounds gavel]
Judge: Have you reached a verdict in the second charge?
Foreman: We have, your honor.
Judge: In the charge of murder in the first degree, how do you find?
Foreman: We find the defendant guilty of the charge of murder of the unborn child Todd Manning Jr.
[Judge pounds gavel]
Judge: Order! Order!
Judge: We will have order!
Judge: Quiet! Order or I will clear this courtroom!
Judge: Todd Manning --
Evangeline: Just get through this, Todd. It isn't over.
Judge: You have been found guilty of two counts of murder in the first degree. You will be remanded into the custody of the commonwealth until your sentencing hearing, scheduled for February 3. I trust that your time in incarceration will allow you to think about your actions and the resulting loss of life. This court is adjourned.
Bailiff: All rise.
Dorian: Come on, Blair, let me get you out of here. Come on, please.
Reporter: Mr. Hughes, "Philadelphia Herald." Do you have a statement for our readers?
Second reporter: Are you surprised by the guilty verdict?
Hugh: As far as I'm concerned, justice has been served.
Viki: Todd, I'm so, so sorry.
Bo: Manning, I'm taking you back to the station.
Officer: Let's go.
Todd: I need to talk to you.
Bo: No, you calm down.
Denton: Come on.
Todd: Get your hands off me.
Evangeline: Todd --
Bo: You're making it worse on yourself, Manning.
Dorian: You can see how he is. Please can we go?
John: Mrs. Cramer, it might be time for you to leave.
Dorian: Thank you very much. We've got to go. There's nothing we can do here, nothing whatsoever.
John: Get out of the way.
Dorian: Thank you so much.
John: That's enough. That's enough!
Michael: I guess the manning verdict's out.
Michael: Well they've been camped out there for a while. I'm pretty sure that's what it's for.
Marcie: Well, you know, they have to find him guilty. That's all I have to say about that.
Michael: Well, at least I know where you stand on the matter.
Marcie: Well, you know, I've been following the news. I'm sure you have. They have so much evidence against him.
Michael: Yeah, I know. John found the baby, remember?
Marcie: Oh. Michael, I'm sorry.
Michael: No, it's fine. He's been really upset, though. You're right, though, you know.
Michael: They should put him away. The guy's guilty as hell.
Marcie: How many sugars did you put in here?
Michael and Marcie: Four.
Marcie: I remember. You know, you're going to get diabetes.
Michael: So, where you going?
Marcie: Uh -- I have to go somewhere and do something.
Michael: "Somewhere, something." Nice. We're back together a week and you're already keeping secrets on me.
Marcie: No. No, no, no.
Marcie: No, it's not a secret. I'm just -- I'm just a little embarrassed.
Marcie: Yeah. You know, I am -- fine, all right, I'll tell you. I am doing a concert at St. James and I was on my way to rehearsal.
Michael: And you're embarrassed about this why?
Marcie: Because --
Michael: You're a great singer, Marcie.
Marcie: Yeah. Well, I just haven't really sung in a really long time and I'm kind of rusty.
Michael: I doubt it.
Marcie: No, I'm rusty.
Michael: Yeah? Whatever. You know, I'm -- I'm really happy that you're getting back to the things you love.
Marcie: Yeah, so am I.
Matthew: You're worried about your dad, aren't you?
Starr: No. He's innocent. The jury knows that. There's no way that they're going to convict him.
Starr: What, you think he's guilty, too? Oh, wait, is that because your dad's the one that put my dad in jail? You probably think I'm deluded.
Matthew: What's "deluded" mean?
Starr: It's like you still believing in Santa Claus.
Matthew: No, I don't. Not since you told me he doesn't exist.
Starr: Yeah, well, at least somebody tells you the truth.
Matthew: My dad doesn't talk to me about work.
Starr: You just think that everything your dad does is perfect, don't you? Talk about deluded.
Matthew: No, I'm not. And I don't think you are, either. I just think you need a friend. If I were you, I'd be scared, too.
Starr: Nobody understands what it feels like to think that your dad could just -- you can never see him again.
Matthew: I do. I'm afraid my mom will never wake up again.
Starr: Guess we both need a friend right now.
Reporter: Ms. Cramer, are your children aware --
Dorian: Just back off.
Spencer: Get her out of here.
David: I'm not the valet.
Reporter: Any comment there?
Dorian: She's been through enough as it is.
Reporter: Do you think Manning will get the death penalty?
Clint: Viki, you going to be ok? Listen, I'm going to call the girls. I don't want them to find out about this on the news, all right?
Viki: Jessica loves Todd. They've always been so close. What is this going to do to her on top of everything else?
Clint: Jessica's strong, like her mother, and we're going to get her through this.
Viki: Yes, please do call them. I don't want to leave Todd alone.
Clint: All right.
Bo: Let's go, Manning.
Todd: You're sending an innocent man to jail, bo.
Bo: Jury didn't think so.
Todd: I didn't kill that woman. And maybe someday after they've stuck that needle in my arm and they've buried me, you're going to realize that, and that makes you a murderer, too.
Bo: Let's go.
John: Hey. I'm sorry it didn't work out for you. If there's anything I can do --
Evangeline: There is.
Dorian: Thank you very much for helping me get Blair away from the courtroom so quickly, all those paparazzi swooping in for the kill. Hasn't Blair been through enough?
David: Yes, she has. You all have.
Spencer: How you holding up? You ok?
Blair: Oh. I'm not. How am I going to tell my children what's going to happen to their father?
Spencer: Honestly, I really don't know, but I think you'd better find a way before they hear it from someone else.
Blair: I'm just afraid.
Spencer: Well, I'll be here for you, if that makes it any easier.
Dorian: No, I will be. I'm family.
Blair: Oh, come on, Dorian, it's not a competition. You're as bad as Todd.
Dorian: I'm not a baby-killer.
Blair: I can't believe you said that.
Dorian: I'm sorry. Really, it was uncalled for. I really apologize. It's just if anybody is going to take care of those children, it should be me.
Blair: Well, if you would like to help, you can go pick up Starr. She is with Matthew and Marianne. Number's right there on the desk.
Dorian: All right.
David: I'll -- I'll drive you. You left your car at the courthouse.
Dorian: Oh. Thank you. We'll be back soon.
Spencer: Should I go? Should I leave?
Blair: No, I -- I want you to stay. I don't want to be alone.
Blair: What's that?
Spencer: Just -- uh -- something the kids left behind.
Matthew: Maybe things will turn out ok. Your dad could get free and my mom could finally wake up again.
Matthew: You know, I pray every night for my mom.
Starr: Does it work?
Matthew: Yeah, I think it does.
Michael: You need a hot tea with lemon and honey before you go to rehearsal.
Marcie: How do you know that? I know they didn't teach you that in medical school.
Michael: My mom's a singer. She always has one before she goes on.
Marcie: I totally forgot your mom was a singer.
Michael: You remember, we went and saw her at Capricorn?
Marcie: Yeah, I do. Ooh. Hey, excuse me. Have you heard anything about the manning trial?
Waitress: Oh, let me check.
Marianne: Wait, don't!
Announcer: Llanview publisher Todd Manning has been found guilty of two counts of first-degree murder. Sentencing will occur on February 3, but according to sources, the D.A. is asking for the death penalty.
Marianne: Turn that off!
Starr: I have to use the ladies' room.
Bo: I don't want any press in here! Have a seat.
Reporter: Ms. Davidson, how do you feel about the verdict?
Viki: Oh, no comment.
Reporter: Why didn't your brother just go for an insanity plea given the history of mental illness in your family?
Clint: Get lost, will you!
Bo: I'm going to keep you up here until your transportation to Statesville shows up. Viki.
Viki: They're taking him there already?
Bo: I'm sorry, but it's the judge's orders.
Viki: Could I have a moment alone with my brother, please?
Bo: Yeah. Keep your cool, Manning.
Viki: I'm so sorry.
John: So what can I do?
Evangeline: There had to be someone else at the lake that night. Todd didn't kill Margaret. I want you to find the person who did.
Rex: Looking for this?
Adriana: Oh, I thought I lost it.
Rex: You left it in the courtroom.
Adriana: Did you look inside?
Rex: I'm a smooth-talking player, everything you should stay away from, but I'm not a snoop.
Adriana: Well, can I have it back?
Rex: Well, depends on what's inside.
Adriana: Rex, can you just give it to me?
Rex: Whoa, whoa, whoa. If you want it, you're going to have to do something for it.
Rex: Not that! You just have to let me show you something.
John: Manning's been convicted. As far as the department's concerned, this case is closed.
Evangeline: What would it take to reopen it?
John: Evidence that doesn't exist.
Evangeline: I don't have any evidence. I have no other suspects, no violations of police procedure or due process, no grounds for appeal. Not one single damn mistake on anybody's part other than my client.
John: I'm sorry.
Evangeline: I don't want you to apologize. John, I don't want you to show up with bad coffee or bad jokes. That's not what I need.
John: What do you need?
Evangeline: I sound like a child.
John: Tell me what you want.
Marcie: Poor Starr. I mean, it's hard enough being a teenager without having to deal with something like this.
Michael: Well, kids are pretty resilient, you know? They bounce back from just about anything.
Marcie: Talking about your dad, aren't you?
Dorian: Oh! Matthew, and hello.
Dorian: Where's Starr?
Matthew: She's in the bathroom.
Marianne: Poor thing's been in there since she heard the news about her father.
Dorian: She knows?
Matthew: She heard it on the radio by mistake. She's really upset.
David: I'm sure she is. You're a good friend, Matthew. You know, sometimes girls need a strong man when times get tough. I know because I'm a strong man.
Dorian: She's gone.
Dorian: She's gone!
Marianne: Oh, she must've gotten out the back way.
Dorian: I -- uh -- I'd better call Blair. No, no, what am I thinking? I can't call Blair. Blair's already devastated. This will absolutely kill her. All right. What are we going to do?
Clint: Pa's going to be real happy that Todd is going away for good. One less enemy for him to worry about.
Bo: Yeah. Hey, does Jessica know about the verdict yet?
Clint: Yeah, I spoke to her. She's with Antonio now.
Bo: Poor kid. I know that she and Todd are close.
Clint: Yeah. She's going to be seeing Dr. Jamison, which is good because he seems to be helping her. She's got a lot more to deal with than just this, but she's going to be ok, I'm convinced of that. It's Viki. She's the one I'm worried about.
Viki: Is there anything at all I can do for you?
Todd: No, just help Blair out, you know? Make sure she has everything she needs with the kids.
Viki: Well, of course I'll do that. And tomorrow morning I'm going to meet with Evangeline. We're going to get started on your appeal.
Viki: No? But I want to do that.
Todd: Look, it's a waste of time.
Viki: Todd -- honey, you're facing life in prison.
Todd: I'm facing death. I think you'd better get used to saying it.
Viki: No, I won't. We're going to fight this.
Todd: No, I said no. What difference does it make? Even if I get through this, I've lost everything that matters to me.
Blair: What's that?
Spencer: It's a sedative.
Blair: No, look, I don't want to sleep.
Spencer: It's very, very mild, Blair. It's just something to help calm your nerves.
Blair: I want to be awake. I want to feel what I need to feel.
Spencer: All right, all right. Better take this. Spencer Truman.
David: Yeah, it's me. Ordinarily, you'd be the last person I'd call about this, but it's kind of a delicate situation. It's Starr.
Spencer: What's up?
David: She went AWOL when she heard about Todd.
Spencer: And where did this happen?
David: At the diner. She said she was going to the bathroom and then she snuck out the back way. Look, I know you're probably going to use this to weasel your way even deeper into Blair's life, but looks like you got to be the one to tell her.
Spencer: I'll take care of it. Uh -- I got to go.
Blair: Well, what's wrong?
Spencer: Just something's come up, that's all.
Blair: Well, what happened? Don't lie to me, please!
Spencer: Blair, I will not lie to you, all right, I promise. I just don't want to alarm you.
Blair: Well, what's wrong?
Spencer: Starr heard --
Spencer: The verdict, yeah. She heard about it.
Blair: Oh, my God.
Spencer: It's ok.
Spencer: Look, I promise I'll find her.
Blair: Well, where is she
Spencer: No one knows.
Spencer: I will look for her.
Blair: You don't even know her!
Spencer: I know her well enough to know how to look for her, all right? I want you to stay here in case she comes back.
Blair: But, Spencer --
Spencer: She couldn't have gone far, all right?
Blair: But --
Spencer: Listen to me -- I promise you I'll find her.
Blair: Ok. Ok, just find her, please.
Spencer: You call me if you hear anything.
Blair: I -- I will. You call me.
Spencer: Don't worry.
Blair: Starr. Damn it! I know exactly where she went.
Rex: It's freezing. Is this really necessary?
Adriana: If you want to show me something before you give me back my stuff, it has to be in a public place.
Rex: You must think I'm a real pervert. Or else you don't trust yourself with me in private.
Adriana: Can we just get on with this, please?
Adriana: "MPIA?" What's that?
Rex: The Mid-Pennsylvania Investigation Academy. I just enrolled.
Adriana: You're learning to be a private investigator?
Rex: I've thought about it for a while. I like working for Bo, so I thought --
Adriana: Wow. I don't know what to say.
Rex: Just don't tell anyone yet, ok? Nobody knows.
Adriana: So why'd you tell me?
Rex: You kind of inspired me to do it.
Adriana: I did?
Rex: I saw the way you took charge at "Craze." You always wanted to be in fashion. All of a sudden you were doing it, and now you're a cover girl.
Adriana: By default.
Rex: The thing is it made me realize that I could do what I want to do, too.
Adriana: Can I have my envelope back now? Oh. The photographer gave them to me for my portfolio -- not that I need one.
Rex: You look incredible.
Adriana: Yeah, amazing what a little makeup can do, right?
Rex: No, it's not just that. It's the look in your eyes. The photographer told you to think about passion and fire. What were you thinking about?
Woman: Rex! Hey! You'd better be at the club tonight. I've got some new tricks to show you.
Rex: She's a magician. Really.
Adriana: Good night, Rex. Oh.
Dorian: Of all the people on earth, you had to call your brother Spencer? I mean, why do you still have any faith left in him at all?
David: This has nothing to do with faith. Somebody had to tell Blair that Starr was missing. He only won by proximity.
Dorian: But why in the world would you leave Blair alone?
Spencer: Blair is fine, Dorian.
Dorian: She -- she's fine? Ok, the man that she loves has been convicted of murder, murdering his own child, and now her daughter is missing! How can she be fine, Spencer?
David: Dorian, calm down.
Spencer: No, I agree with David. After all, this is about finding Starr as soon as possible, is it not? Right?
Spencer: How are you doing, buddy? You doing ok?
Matthew: I'm just really worried about Starr.
Spencer: Listen, did she say anything to you about where she could've gone or --
Matthew: I don't know. We were in the middle of talking about our parents. She said she wanted to get her dad free. I told her she could pray for him like I do for my mom, and that's when the radio went on.
Spencer: Thanks, Matthew. You've been very, very helpful.
Dorian: Well, where are you going?
Spencer: I think I have an idea where Starr might've gone, all right? You two stay here in case she comes back.
Dorian: Oh, aye, aye. Well you going to say something?
David: About Spencer rushing off to save the day? For once I hope he actually does it.
Dorian: Yeah, so do I.
David: Think I owe you an apology.
Dorian: Too little too late.
David: It's not about leaving you at the altar. I know you're never going to forgive me for that.
David: A while back, I took Todd's side. I tried to see things from his perspective. Well, he destroyed Blair's life. Now Starr's missing and two people are dead. As usual, you were right.
Dorian: Being right never felt so horrible.
Viki: Don't do this! Don't give up your entire life for a crime you didn't even commit!
Todd: You still think I'm innocent?
Viki: Yes. Yes, I do.
Clint: Todd has twisted Viki around for years. She always takes him back, no matter what he does.
Bo: It's family loyalty. You know, I mean, you should be able to identify with that.
Clint: Yeah, I do . Doesn't mean I have to like it, though. You know, with this, Viki is going to need somebody to turn to. Unfortunately, it can't be me.
Bo: Why not? You know, I think you two have as a good a relationship as any divorced people I know.
Clint: Well, we've been on opposite sides of some arguments lately. It's --
Bo: Oh. And that's all I'm going to get out of you, right?
Clint: Afraid so.
Bo: Yeah. All right, look, I got to meet Matthew. You want to join us?
Clint: No, I think I should stick around here for a while, if that's ok with you.
Bo: Yeah, sure, make yourself at home.
Todd: If you believe me, why can't Blair?
Viki: I don't know. I think that trust has always been a big issue between u two.
Todd: So you saying that it's not because of what she thinks I did, it's because I lied to her? Except I didn't lie to her.
Viki: I don't know what Blair is thinking. But, I mean, you've been in this situation before and you've always found your way back to each other.
Todd: This feels different.
Viki: Todd, what about Starr and Jack? My God, if you don't fight this, those children are going to spend the rest of their lives believing that you're guilty. Is that a legacy you want to leave for them? Please, you have to let Evangeline fight this conviction, for your children, and for Blair. I think it's the only way you're ever going to win her back.
Dorian: Coffee, please.
Waitress: Sure. How do you take it?
David: Cream for me, not milk, and one sugar. Not the blue, pink, or yellow stuff. 100% pure cane sugar. And the lady takes it black. I didn't forget everything when I moved out of our house.
Dorian: My house.
David: I didn't forget that, either.
Dorian: Good. Thank you. Oh, yes. I don't forget anything.
Bo: Hey there, mister.
Matthew: Hey, dad.
Bo: I got it from here. Ah.
Marianne: Ok. I'll see you tomorrow night.
Bo: Thanks a lot.
Marianne: What a day. Thank you.
Bo: So how you doing, son?
Matthew: Not so good.
Matthew: Starr's dad was found guilty. She ran away.
Bo: Starr's gone?
Matthew: Yeah. Dr. Spencer's out there looking for her. Even Dr. Mike and Marcie.
Matthew: You think she's going to be ok?
Bo: I think she's a smart kid. I tell you what. I'll bet she just needed some time alone and she needed to think about things. But if she doesn't turn up pretty soon, I'm going to go look for her myself. Is that all right? All right.
Matthew: Am I deluded?
Bo: Ahem. What?
Matthew: Everyone keeps saying mom's never going to wake up again, but I think she is. So am I deluded?
Bo: I'm not going to lie to you, son. Things, medically speaking, don't look real good right now. But that's because a coma is a mysterious thing. The thing about mysteries, they always keep you guessing. So, no, you're not. What you are, you're being hopeful. There's a big difference between the two.
Matthew: Are you hopeful, too?
Bo: Always have been, always will be. What you got there, anyway?
Matthew: It's a joke book. I was going to show it to Starr, but she went to the bathroom before I had the chance to show it to her.
Bo: All right. I could use a few smiles. Go ahead, give it your best shot.
Matthew: Ok. "What does a witch say each night when she puts her broom away?"
Bo: I don't know.
Matthew: "Time to go to sweep."
Bo: Where did you get this thing?
Starr: What are you doing here?
Spencer: Same as you. Came to ask for God's help.
Starr: I came here to tell god that he's a fraud. Praying doesn't help anymore. Everything still sucks.
Spencer: Well, you're not really mad at god, are you, Starr?
Starr: He's innocent. I don't care what my mom thinks.
Spencer: It's ok, you don't have to. But I can tell you your mother is very, very worried about you and she needs you home, and whether or not you want to admit it or not, I think you need her, too. And your dad -- well, I'm sure he would want you home, be there for Jack. He's really going to need to have a big sister around. So what do you say? Let me take you back to the penthouse?
Starr: I'll never stop believing in him.
Spencer: Nobody says you have to.
Starr: Good. Because I'm going to pray that they find that murderer. And when they do, I hope he rots in hell.
Todd: Knew you'd come.
Blair: Is Starr here?
Todd: Starr? No. She missing?
Blair: She ran away as soon as she heard the verdict. I figured she was here with you.
Todd: Who's supposed to be watching her?
Blair: Todd, I'll find her. You shredded her life when you did what you did. But I will find her and I will help her pick up the pieces of her life so she can move on.
Clint: Viki, come on, I'll take you home.
Viki: Uh -- actually, I don't want to leave until Todd leaves, please.
Clint: All right, then I'll stay here, take you home a little later.
Viki: Thank you.
Todd: How did this happen? How could you lose so much faith in me after all we've been through?
Blair: No, I'm not going to talk about this with you.
Todd: Who can you talk about it with, Blair, Spencer?
Blair: Yeah, Spencer Truman.
Todd: Son of a bitch.
Blair: You know what, you have no right, Todd. Only thing I'm guilty of is leaning on a friend's shoulder in a time of crisis. You killed your own son.
Todd: I didn't do anything. I'm innocent. Blair -- you love me. You know you do. You always will. And I'll never stop loving you, Blair. Never.
Evangeline: I don't want anything from you. Not anything you can give me, anyway.
John: Try me.
Evangeline: I appreciate you trying to be my friend, but it's not working for me.
John: What makes you say that?
Evangeline: I'm confused. I really appreciate you being here for me. I do. You let me cry in your arms the other night. It's taking everything I've got not to do that again right now.
John: You do what you got to do. It's ok.
Evangeline: No. No. It made me feel really good for a few minutes, but after that I started thinking about everything I lost. And I got way too much of that on my plate right now to add any more.
John: No one could've done any -- any more for manning than you did. I know you put your heart into this case.
Evangeline: Yeah. Well, it doesn't always get you what you want, now, does it? So if you'll excuse me, I'm -- I'm going to get back to work. I have to find a way to make sure that Todd doesn't get the death penalty for something he didn't do.
Michael: I haven't been to a church in a long time.
Marcie: I went to the water's edge forgot I couldn't swim I went to the water's edge all ready to jump in I saw the water shimmer I heard the wind howl I saw my own reflection I just can't see it now they say it's the way of the world to somehow coexist that eventually life unfurls a path to happiness so I whisper your little secret and repeat it under my breath I'll save it for you in my heart in case we both forget oh, I wish you could wrap yourself around me I am gripped by a loneliness oh, I wish you could wrap yourself around me d be released in your tenderness I'd be released in your tenderness
Marcie: I went to the water's edge and saw my life eclipse I went to the water's edge and then felt myself slip I dreamed that I was floating just coast until I grew fins I want to catch and feel you again oh, I wish you could wrap yourself around me I am gripped by a loneliness oh, I wish you could wrap yourself around me I'd be released in your tenderness oh, I wish you could wrap yourself around me I am gripped by a loneliness oh, I wish you could wrap yourself around me I'd be released in your tenderness I'd be released in your tenderness
On the next "One Life to Live" --
R.J.: Today I'm going to ask Lindsay to marry me.
Rex: I want to be the guy who made your dreams come true.
Bo: John, something's eating at you. Everybody's noticing it.
Cristian: We had so many dreams.
Natalie: And they all died when you died.
Cristian: I'm not dead.
