Viki: Have I done anything?
Tess: You've done everything!
Todd: Don't you make this about her.
Nurse: Looks like you'll be out of here in time to celebrate tonight. Got any big plans for New Year's?
Nash: Oh, I'm working on it.
Nurse: Mm-hmm, well, just one more trip to radiology and then when the payment goes through, you'll just have to sign some forms and --
Nash: Payment. You know, I don't have any health insurance.
Nurse: No problem. The bill's already been taken care of.
Nash: By who?
Antonio: That would be me.
Nash: Well, well, well. Here I was thinking you'd have Jessica back in Llanview by now.
Antonio: No, not yet. You and I have some business to take care of first.
Jack: Are they going to let daddy come home tonight for New Year's?
Blair: I don't think so, sweetie. I'm sorry.
Jack: Dr. Spencer!
Spencer: Well, hello there, Jack. Hey, buddy. How are you?
Spencer: Good to see you. Happy New Year, man.
Jack: You, too.
Spencer: Blair, Happy New Year.
Blair: Happy New Year. Spencer, wait. Um, Jack, can you hang out here by the angel, because I want to talk to Dr. Spencer just a minute, ok, but stay in sight, all right? Thanks, sweetheart.
Spencer: Was there something else?
Blair: Well, I -- I just haven't seen you since Todd's jury selection and, I don't know -- are you avoiding me? You are, aren't you? Why? Is there something you're not telling me?
Guard: Hey, Manning, you got a visitor.
Rex: Give us a minute, bobby?
Todd: Did you do what I asked?
Rex: Yeah. But you're not going to like what I came up with.
Bo: Sorry, Cristian. I didn't mean to startle you.
Cristian: No, I'm sorry. I guess I'm a little jumpy these days.
Cristian: Especially around cops.
Bo: Well, that's understandable. But you can relax. I didn't ask you to come down here because you're in any trouble. I just wanted to finalize your release from Statesville, get you back to your old life.
Cristian: The only life I want back is the one that can't look at me in the eye.
John: Willard, that report on the Sullivan case was supposed to be on my desk.
Ofc. Willard: Sorry, forensics never brought it by.
John: Well, then get down there and find out what the hell's holding them up.
Ofc. Willard: I thought you had the day off.
John: Change of plans -- I'm here all day, and I don't want any crap.
Ofc. Willard: What's your problem anyhow?
John: My problem? Do you really want to know what my problem is?
Kelly: Hey! You all ready for Asa's big party at the lodge?
Duke: Yeah, Adriana should be here any minute. What's in the bag?
Kelly: Oh, Kevin's stuff.
Kelly: I'm taking some things to the carriage house. The movers should be here next week to get the big stuff.
Duke: You know, it's good to see you two so happy.
Kelly: Yeah, I know. How you feeling about things with Adriana?
Duke: Ah, well, everything's cool. I was probably just overanalyzing the situation anyway after the whole thing with Rex.
Kelly: Hmm. Well, don't be too hard on yourself. I mean, don't get me wrong, I hope that you and Adriana work out, but sometimes we make bad decisions because of wounded pride when things just aren't meant to be. I mean, look at me and Joey.
Duke: Yeah, I hear you. It's just I fought so hard to get Adriana back, you know? I can't just give up now. The last month would be a complete waste of time.
Kelly: It's never a waste when it comes to love. You know, you learn something from every experience, you grow. And you and Adriana -- you know, she's so young.
Duke: I know, I haven't forgotten what you said about her not being so experienced with guys.
Kelly: Yeah, exactly.
Spencer: I just think that it's time I backed off a little bit, that's all.
Blair: Well, I hope it's not on my account. I hope you know how much I appreciate everything you've done for me.
Spencer: I do. Of course I do. It's just that with Todd's trial and everything, the press hounding you, I mean, how does it look having me, an unattached man, by your side all the time?
Blair: Spencer, I don't care what people think. I don't! Kelly and Dorian -- I'm sure they just can't wait to watch Todd fry, but, look, I -- I really need somebody on my side. I really do.
Spencer: You have people, you have somebody. You have Viki, you have your children, and I'm sure Kelly will come around.
Blair: Oh, yeah, yeah, right.
Spencer: Blair, I just think that --
Blair: You know what I think? I think you're a real bastard, Spencer.
Rex: I checked around, looked to see if somebody saw something the night you met up with Margaret at the lake or afterwards, before the body washed up.
Rex: And nada. I didn't find squat. Seems like it was just you, Margaret, and a couple other campers who only saw the two of you.
Todd: Well, there's got to be something else. There's got to be. There's got to be a -- a clue, a piece of evidence that they're missing, a fingerprint, a fiber of some kind. I don't know, anything.
Rex: I don't know what to tell you, man. Looks like you're back to square one. And I got to go.
Todd: Wait, hold on. I'm going to get you some more cash, ok, and I want you to work for me because I know you can fly under the cops' radar, right?
Guard: Hey, you working for this dirt bag? Don't you know he's a baby killer?
Rex: Yeah, I --
Guard: Let's go.
Guard: This little planning session's over.
Natalie: Rotten day?
John: Just busy. How's it going?
Natalie: Hanging in.
John: I should get back to work.
Natalie: Wait. It shouldn't be this way.
Bo: All that's left is for you to sign your statement about what went down at Statesville.
Cristian: So that's it?
Bo: Yeah. Well, almost. These are your effects that were taken when you were arrested.
Cristian: Natalie gave me this for my birthday.
Cristian: What's this?
Bo: Natalie had that put out outside of St. Jude's when she thought you'd died, and then last year when you came back she had it taken down. I -- I didn't have the heart to give it back to her. I didn't want her to relive -- you can do whatever you want with it, ok?
Cristian: "In memory of Cristian Alejandro Vega."
Bo: Look, I know there's a lot of your life that's -- that's up in the air right now, Cristian, but you're still alive, so you have a chance to start a whole new life.
John: What do you mean? What -- what shouldn't be this way?
Natalie: It's your day off. You should be doing something for yourself, not hanging around the station.
John: Only place I really want to be is here working.
Natalie: Well, it's New Year's Eve. I mean, why don't you hang out with your brother or call your mom or something?
John: I can't have anything to do with them right now.
Natalie: Look, I mean, I know you're not all warm and fuzzy with your family, but I've never known you to avoid them. Thinking about your dad, aren't you? He was killed on the holidays.
Nurse: You're going to have to finish this argument when Mr. Brennan gets back from radiology. And what you have to worry about is whether those thugs did any long-term damage.
Antonio: You going to tell me who did this to you?
Jessica: Please. Listen, let's not do this, ok? Nash, I'm sorry that we barged in on you.
Nash: You don't have to apologize for anything. Not ever.
Nurse: Ahem. Wheels up.
Jessica: I hate it when you fight with him.
Antonio: No one's fighting, ok? Look, I'm going to go outside, I'm going to talk to the police officers, see what I can find out.
Jessica: Well, great, I'll go with you.
Antonio: I don't think that's a good idea.
Antonio: Because, honey, anything you hear, Tess knows, too, all right, and the last thing we need is Tess using something she hears to her advantage.
Jessica: Well, if anybody should know what's going on, it should be me.
Antonio: Jess, no one hates this more than I do. We'll get you home. We'll talk to Dr. Jamison, Dr. Fox. we'll get you well. And I will take the paternity test and prove once and for all that I'm the father of that baby, and then we'll do whatever it takes to make sure that Nash stays out of our lives once and for all.
Jessica: He's not going to give up on her, Antonio. Nash loves Tess, and he's not going to stop till he's with her.
Antonio: Listen, you got a minute? Can I talk to you about the Brennan case?
Blair: You think you can save my reputation? Come on, Spencer, everybody in this stinking town thinks that my fiancée is a baby killer. My sweet children can't even walk out of the house without some obnoxious kid telling them awful, horrible things. I don't think my reputation could take any more beating than it already has.
Spencer: Blair, you're the strongest, most resilient woman I've ever met. You've survived much worse than this. You'll survive this, as well.
Blair: Minus one good friend. What do you want me to do, Spencer? You want me to beg you to stick around?
Spencer: Blair Cramer --
Spencer: Does not beg, not anybody or anything. I really do have to get going.
Denton: This isn't reporting the news. This isn't inventing the news. This is covering up a crime.
Blair: Get the hell away from my son.
Kelly: I mean, I care a lot about Adriana, but she still believes that there's this one transcendent love.
Duke: You really think so?
Kelly: Yeah, every girl wants that at some point. I mean, you watch all these movies where some guy is serenading a girl outside her bedroom with a boom box or something and you start thinking, "well, that's the way it's supposed to be, that's real." Adriana's just too inexperienced to realize it.
Kelly: That's why she keeps on bouncing back and forth between whichever guy she has a romantic moment with. You know, it's not --
Adriana: I was driving by the tailor and I picked up your tux.
Duke: Well, hey, you didn't have to do that. Nigel was going to stop by later.
Adriana: Oh, I'm sure he has his hands full with Asa's party.
Duke: Well, thank you. I better go try it on.
Adriana: You know, isn't it enough for you to make Blair's life miserable? Do you have to ruin mine, too?
Guard: Just caught Balsom down in lockup with Todd Manning, working on a plan to get him out of there.
Bo: Thank you.
Rex: You know, I'm trying to help prove he's innocent.
Bo: Yeah? Why? Balsom, look, you're finally kind of pulling your life together. Why you want to throw in with a guy like Todd Manning?
Rex: You got to make a buck somehow.
Bo: What, you don't make a decent enough living out of Ultra Violet?
Rex: A little extra never hurts.
Bo: All right. I may have something for you, but it goes no further than this room. You understand?
Rex: I'm listening.
Bo: All right, I want you to help me find a baby.
Rex: Any baby in particular or just, you know --
Bo: Yes. A baby that was put up for adoption 26 years ago.
Natalie: I know this can't be easy for you.
John: You know, holidays aren't easy for a lot of people, right, despite all the hype.
Natalie: We're talking about your dad. This is a big deal.
John: I don't want to drag you into my stuff, especially not after everything I -- after everything that went down.
Natalie: Look, I tried -- tried to keep things simple, but obviously that's not working, so maybe we should try something else.
Antonio: Antonio Vega, friend of Nash Brennan's. You guys any closer to finding out who did this to him?
Officer: Look, I can't get into details about a case.
Antonio: I used to be a police officer in Llanview, Pennsylvania, where Nash Brennan's been hanging out lately. I just thought that maybe I could find a link between who did this to him and who he dealt with back east.
Officer: Yeah, yeah, all right. Guess it's worth a shot.
Jessica: Don't worry, I'm not going to let anybody take us away from your daddy.
Nash: Even if the daddy is me? Would you, um -- could you give us a minute? Thank you.
Jessica: Antonio's right outside.
Nash: I'm in a wheelchair. What's he afraid of? God, why is he always pushing so hard? If he thinks he's going to dig up some deep, dark secret about me, he's going to be disappointed.
Jessica: Well, unless you told Tess. Did you?
Nash: Don't you know the answer to that?
Jessica: Well, no, I don't have access to her memories.
Nash: You are stronger.
Jessica: Yeah, I am. It's because of the baby. When I found out that I was pregnant, I was able to talk to Tess, I was able to stand up to her, especially when she was at the clinic. This baby gives me the strength to stay in control. Which makes me believe more than ever that it's not yours.
Rex: So this baby -- does it have, like, a giant inheritance coming or something? Because I'm 26.
Bo: This is no joke, Balsom.
Rex: Is it something to do with a case?
Bo: You don't need any more information.
Rex: I have to ask a few things if you want me to track this kid down.
Bo: This is the baby's birth date and the hospital that he was born in.
Rex: Uh, it would help if I knew the mother's name.
Bo: It's not important.
Rex: Come on, Bo. We both know whose kid we're talking about.
John: What did you -- what'd you have in mind?
Natalie: Look, I can't start this New Year with all of this anger, and neither can you. So, maybe we could just try to start over, before we end up ruining whatever's good in our lives. John, I hate seeing you like this. I hate seeing me like this. You know, that's why at the start of this year, I have to totally be on my own.
John: Yeah. I'm going to do the same, go it on my own for a while.
Natalie: You really scare me when you're like this.
John: Don't be scared.
Natalie: You know, I haven't forgotten one single moment that went on between us. But I didn't ask to be lied to by my husband or the -- or by you.
John: I know. I know, but now we all have to live with that.
Natalie: We don't have to be enemies.
John: I appreciate you trying to help. I do. But right now you ought to -- you got to focus on yourself. You'll be all right. You always are.
Jack: It's ok, mommy. He's a friend of daddy's.
Blair: No, he isn't, sweetie. Come on.
Denton: You ought to be thanking me. I could be in jail myself, some of the stuff your husband had me do.
Blair: Don't you dare speak about Todd in front of my children again. You hear me?
Denton: I'm just stating the facts, babe.
Blair: You think getting drunk and going to the cops, spilling a bunch of lies helped Todd?
Denton: Everything I said to the cops was the God's honest truth, and the sooner you realize that --
Denton: The better off you'll be.
Jack: What's he talking about?
Blair: Nothing, sweetheart, nothing. He's a nobody.
Denton: Whatever you say, babe.
Jack: Can we go home now?
Blair: Yeah. You know what, I'm going to take you and drop you off with Starr. I need to take care of a little business first, ok?
Blair: Ok. Let's go.
Spencer: Yeah, it's me. Oh, there's just one more little thing I need you to do for me so I can ring in the New Year just right.
Officer: That beating Brennan took? I'm thinking it's the work of a professional.
Antonio: Probably more than one.
Officer: You say your name is Vega?
Antonio: Yeah. Why?
Officer: Brennan had you arrested for breaking and entering a couple months ago.
Nash: That baby may be making you stronger, but it does not mean that I am not --
Jessica: Don't say it. I already know.
Nash: Well, I need you to know something else. I never tried to get Tess to get rid of the baby. I did say some unfortunate things about not wanting a family. Look, I found the pregnancy test box in the garbage. When she told me that she wasn't pregnant, I -- I acted relieved. But it was just a gut reaction. I come from a pretty -- pretty screwed-up upbringing. But once I found out that she was, I felt differently. I felt happy. I started to be able to see our future together as a family.
Jessica: Nash, I'm sorry, I -- I really am sorry that you got messed up in this whole thing, but you have to understand that Antonio and I are going to raise this baby.
Nash: Not if that's my child, you won't. There's no way in hell that I'm letting anyone else bring up my kid.
Kelly: What are you talking about?
Adriana: I heard you telling Duke how immature I am, how all I want is to live out some fantasy.
Kelly: I did not say that!
Adriana: You know, I really don't understand you, Kelly. You're my cousin. I thought you'd have my back.
Kelly: I do. I just said that I hope you're not trying to force something that's not meant to be.
Adriana: Oh. You're right. I did try to force something. I dressed up in lingerie and a cowboy hat to try to seduce my boyfriend and it backfired. Because that's not me. I'm not that girl. And if some guy doesn't like the fact that I went to a convent school, if I'm too boring for him, then tough! I don't care!
Kelly: And which guy are we talking about now?
Adriana: Any guy. It doesn't matter, ok? All you need to know is that Duke and I are together and we're happy.
Kelly: I'm so happy you're happy.
Adriana: Didn't sound like it. You know, I'm really surprised. You know what it's like to have your family interfere in your relationship. How could you turn around and try to sabotage mine?
Kelly: Ok, I'm going to go. I think we've said enough. I will see you later. And I want you to know that if I did say or do anything, it's only because I care.
Duke: The tux fits perfectly. Thank you very much for picking it up. Hey, what is it? Did something happen with Kelly? Hey.
Rex: If this baby I'm looking for isn't part of a case and you're determined to keep it under wraps, then it's got to have something to do with someone who's close to you. And who's closer to you than --
Bo: All right, look, you've got all the information you need right now, Balsom. If you want to help somebody that really needs it, then keep your mouth shut, get out there, and see what you can dig up.
Rex: Ok. I'll see what I can find. It's not like I have anything better to do these days . I'll catch you later.
Bo: Hey, wait a minute, wait a minute. What about that young lady that you told me about before? Did you ever ask her out?
Rex: Uh, no, it's not going to happen. We're not even in the same league.
Bo: Well, if you would stop associating with criminals like Todd Manning, maybe you'd realize that you're in a better league than you think you are.
Rex: I'll get back to you.
Blair: Hey, Bo? I need your help. I need to see Todd.
Bo: Well -- well, visiting hours are over, Blair.
Blair: Not now. At midnight tonight, and I need you to make that happen for me.
Rex: Hey, what's up? Glad to see you, too.
Natalie: I feel terrible.
Rex: What's going on?
Natalie: I just -- I tried -- tried to make John feel better, and I think I may have made him feel worse.
Rex: Well, I can't think of anyone more deserving.
Natalie: God, what am I doing, Rex?
Cristian: Stripes or solids?
John: Solids. You break.
Spencer: All right. On my way. Hey, Kelly.
Spencer: Happy New Year. How are you?
Kelly: Thanks. I can't talk right now, Spencer. I've got to get home. I've got so many things to do. I got to pick up my dress and I have to get some food so I don't starve before this party tonight, and I just --
Spencer: Wait, slow down.
Spencer: I just want to ask you a simple question. Ok, take a breath. Ok? How are you feeling since the surgery?
Kelly: Oh. Physically? Fine. It's just that -- nothing. It's nothing. It's girl stuff. You're so not interested.
Spencer: That's all right, I've had my fair share of experience with women. Try me. Go ahead.
Kelly: You really want to know?
Spencer: Why not?
Kelly: Ok, ok. Well, it's -- it's Adriana. I just had a big fight with her. I was talking to Duke about how I think they're trying to convince everyone that they can make this thing work, I mean, including themselves, and she overheard and really took it all the wrong way.
Spencer: Hmm. I see. Well, you know what? I think if she's had enough time to think about it, by this evening she'll realize that you were just looking out for her best interests.
Kelly: That's what I was trying to tell her. That's exactly what I was trying to tell her. But, you know, she has this crazy idea that I'm trying to break them up. I mean, I don't know where she would get that.
Spencer: I can't imagine.
Duke: Hey, did you and Kelly have a fight?
Adriana: Do you think I'm boring?
Duke: Boring? No, what would -- what would make you think that? Did Kelly say something?
Adriana: I don't want to talk about Kelly.
Adriana: Tell me we're doing the right thing. Tell me you want to be with me.
Duke: Hey. Sure I do.
Antonio: It's true, I was arrested, but the charges were dropped.
Officer: Why are you so interested in lending a hand on this case?
Antonio: My fiancée. Brennan's put himself in the middle of her life. She's pregnant. If whoever attacked him comes back, then the baby and Jessica could be -- could be a target, and I need to be prepared to protect them. So you going to help me or not?
Jessica: I can't believe that you want to bring the law into this. Antonio just got -- he just got through with one custody battle. How can I put him through another one?
Nash: Well, Antonio should be worrying about his child. I am going to worry about mine.
Jessica: Nash, this baby is the whole world to me, and if Tess comes out again --
Nash: If Tess comes out again? Don't you mean "when?"
Jessica: Is that what you're waiting for?
Nash: Of course it is.
Jessica: Well, how can you live like this, waiting for a moment here and there for Tess to take control? How can that be satisfying for you?
Nash: None of this is in the least bit satisfying for me. But I'm not going to stop fighting for Tess. I love Tess more than I have loved any other woman, ever. I owe it to Tess and I owe it to myself.
Antonio: What the hell's going on in here?
Bo: I can't help you, Blair, because Todd is not locked up on a traffic charge.
Blair: You know, Bo, I don't need you to remind me why he's in the cell. All I'm asking is I get to spend new year's eve with the man that I love. I mean, you know what happened last year on New Year's Eve. Margaret held him hostage. Nobody knew where he was. I didn't think I'd ever see him again. I had to hijack a news crew, sing in front of a camera, hoping somewhere he might hear me. Now, please, Bo, please don't make me spend another new year's eve like I did last year. Please?
Rex: It's ok, Natty. You didn't do anything wrong.
Natalie: John looked worse than I've ever seen him, you know, like he was in this dark place. And I wanted -- I tried to help him, but it -- I just couldn't.
Rex: Look, Natty, listen to me, those two jerks did not just break your heart, ok, they practically destroyed it. So do not sit here and feel bad that you're not trying to make them feel better. You should be stomping all over them and leaving them to clean up their own guts.
Natalie: Know what, you're right, you're right.
Rex: That's better.
Natalie: You know, you remember when we took those -- those paper airplanes and threw them out the window when we wanted to prove that we were over Jen and Cristian? Well, I meant it. And damn it, I want a divorce, I'm going to get one.
John: Nice shot. Didn't remember you being such a pool player.
Cristian: If it wasn't for this lousy game, things would be totally different right now. You might still be in the F.B.I. Natalie and I would've never gone to Vegas. We might even have a family by now. But you had to come along and take advantage of Natalie's game, and here we are two years later.
John: Hey, you know something -- you're not the only one who lost something. All right, I'm not happy. Evangeline's not happy. Natalie sure as hell isn't happy.
Cristian: Yeah, but you see, she would be if her head wasn't all twisted up.
John: Because you and I both lied to her. Look, maybe if we would've given her more space when you got out --
Cristian: Look, I know how Natalie is. When she's hurting, she lashes out at everyone around her. Thinking doesn't work for her. She has to listen to her heart.
John: Whatever. I'm out of here.
Cristian: Like hell you are. Everybody looks good with a purple moustache.
Antonio: Want to tell me what went on in there?
Jessica: It was nothing. Just, you know, I just want to go home and celebrate New Year's with you, me, and the baby.
Antonio: Ok, let's get you home.
Nurse: You're all set, Mr. Brennan. Your friends paid everything in full.
Nash: Give him back his money. I pay my own way.
Nurse: Oh, I think you'll change your mind when you see the bill.
Nash: I need a ticket to Llanview, Pennsylvania. No, one-way. Yes, I know that it's New Year's Eve. I don't care what it costs. I got to be there by midnight.
Todd: Ahem. Hey.
Todd: Oh, don't let this jury mess get you down, ok?
Blair: It's not that.
Todd: It's tonight, right? New Year's Eve? The second year in a row we've been apart.
Blair: I can't. I just can't. I want to be here with you at midnight tonight. I'm going to do it. I'll find a way. Just wait and see.
Spencer: You know, I wouldn't worry too much about Duke and Adriana. I mean, they are so young. When you're young, everything seems like the best and the worst thing in the world all at the same time, you know?
Kelly: What would you know about young people?
Spencer: I know what it's like to be that age and be in love. I do. Listen, just give Adriana a little bit of time. You know, I mean, I think by this evening, this whole incident will be forgotten.
Kelly: Well, I can't think about it anymore. I have so much to do.
Spencer: Yeah, right.
Kelly: And Asa has a real thing about his family being on time, so I have to go. See you later. I can hardly wait.
Spencer: Neither can I -- despite the fact that I wasn't even invited.
Bo: Yeah, Paige, I'm almost finished here. Oh, the neck's fine . I didn't even have to take any of those pain pills today. Hey, listen, about the other thing -- I've got some people following up on some -- some leads, and if your son's out there, we're going to find him. You, too. I'll see you in a little bit.
Rex: All right, you know what you got to do. Get Cristian to sign those divorce papers and keep giving john a reason to wear black all the time. Come here. Now, I know it's not the same as a husband or a boyfriend, but whenever you need one of these, the door's open.
Natalie: You, too.
Rex: Wish that was enough.
Natalie: You and me both.
John: You know, Cris, I've always tried to do the right thing, even when circumstances made it impossible. I always felt like I owed you for Vegas.
Cristian: That debt was paid up at Statesville.
John: So where's that leave us?
Cristian: I don't know.
John: I don't know, either. Look, you're a good guy. You've proven that much. But understand that I can't just step aside and pretend I don't have an investment in all this. Natalie means something to both of us.
Cristian: All right, one more shot. I make it, I win.
John: Yeah? You miss it, I make it, I win. It's all just one big crap shoot. Think about it.
On the next "One Life to Live" --
Cristian: There's something else I want you to do for me.
Clint: Niki knows something that could help Jessica.
Niki: Whoo-hoo! Just in time for New Year's!
Spencer: Let's just say the Buchanan’s are going to have a New Year's Eve they'll always remember.
