Jessica: Antonio!  Antonio, I need you!

Antonio: Jessica --

Viki: No, please, please don't go in there.

Antonio: Why not, Viki?  She's calling me.

Viki: Nurse, would you call Dr. Jamison, please?

Nurse: Of course.

Viki: Jessica is in a very, very fragile state right now.  We don't want to do or say anything that might bring Tess out.

Clint: If that is our Jessie in there, we can't take a chance on losing her.

Natalie: Kind of late to be working.

Evangeline: I couldn't sleep.

Natalie: I'll bet.  I thought you might want to know that I paid a visit to Statesville.

Evangeline: What for?

Natalie: To have a chat with your client John Doe.

Evangeline: And?

Natalie: He told me everything I need to know.

Carlo: I heard about the sad attempt to take your own life.

Cristian: I never tried to kill myself and you know it.  You're the one who wants me dead.

Carlo: Well, now that you found me out, you might as well know -- what I want I always manage to get.

Cristian: Not this time.

John: I've seen this guy around here before.

Denton: So what?  I'm a reporter.  This is my beat.

Rex: Our friend here works for "The Sun."

Bo: Your boss is Todd Manning?

Denton: Oh --

Rex: Yeah.  He was down at Rodi's mouthing off about a favor he had done for the head honcho -- something about an alibi.

John: Yeah, it's Mc Bain.  I need to put a rush on that tape that I sent down.  Thanks.  We'll know soon enough.

Hugh: Now, tampering with evidence -- that's a serious offense, especially in a capital-murder case.

Bo: If you know anything about Manning's alibi for the night that Margaret Cochran was murdered, I suggest you start talking.

Todd: It's over.  No more Margaret.

Blair: Well, I wonder if the police will ever find out who really murdered her.

Todd: Well, as long as you know it wasn't me.  Thank you for believing in me.  Thank you for -- hmm.  Yeah, I know we' got some other things to talk about.

Blair: You know what, Todd?  I'm through talking.  I think you should pack your things and get out.

Adriana: Hey, Duke, I was hoping you'd still be up.  I know something's going on with your family and I was worried.  Well, I guess I'll talk to you tomorrow.  You know, I think I'll have one more iced tea.

Billy: You waiting for someone?

Adriana: Yeah, I guess I am.

Evangeline: What, exactly, did John Doe say?

Natalie: That he was going to leave me alone -- and Cristian's family, too.

Evangeline: Oh.  So he said that when he gets out, he won't try to see you?

Natalie: Oh, no.  He's not getting out.  John Doe is dropping his appeal.  He's staying in prison where he belongs.

Evangeline: Damn it!  Natalie, you just signed that man's death warrant.

Denton: I don't know squat about any tape.  What would my boss need an alibi for, anyway?

Bo: You tell me.  Our witness here says that you know a lot more than you're saying.

Rex: I heard him loud and clear.  He helped Todd Manning come up with an alibi.  I got a gut feeling it has something to do with the floater case.  You always tell me to go with my gut.

John: We'll know soon enough.

Denton: Well, I -- I wouldn't even know what to do with a tape.  I don't know anything about -- I don't know anything about that stuff, tapes.

John: Is that so?  Look what I got.

Rex: What is it?

Bo: Get over there.

Rex: Yeah, uh-huh.

John: It's this clown's employment record, including three years as a segment producer on a news show.  Obviously, he knows his way around a video machine.  He even lost his job, got fired when the F.C.C. started investigating a fabricated story.

Bo: See, Manning -- he loves to hire people with a past, and that gives him leverage when he wants something done.

John: Like a phony alibi.

Hugh: So besides tampering with evidence and obstruction of justice, Denton's looking at two counts of accessory to murder.

John: I hope you like hard time, pal, because you're going to be doing it.

Bo: Unless you decide to cooperate.

Blair: Todd!

Todd: I did not kill Margaret Cochran.  And I thought you believed me, I thought you understood.

Blair: I don't have it in me to go through the pain again, all right?

Todd: Blair, I have changed.  You know that.

Blair: Oh, yeah.

Todd: All right.  I said something to you that I can barely say out loud, ever -- that Margaret raped me.  A year ago, there's no way I would have done that.  I'd have run away.  I'd have left you and the kids before I'd let you be ashamed of me, before you left me because you couldn't stand the sight of me.  And I took a chance and you stayed.

Blair: You were telling me the truth then, Todd.

Todd: Oh, come on.  This is a perfect opportunity for us to move on.  There's no one out there now as a threat to us, making us both nuts.  And we belong together. You know that.  I'm no good without you.  I know how much I've screwed up.  You've got to give me one more chance to make things right.

John: Forget it.  I don't want to make a deal with this guy.  What are we talking about here, 10 to 15?

Hugh: Minimum.

John: Ah.

Denton: I didn't do anything.

Rex: Oh, that's not the story you told down at Rodi's, and I'm not the only one who heard it.

Bo: You did good.

Rex: Oh, Adriana did the dirty work.  You want me to bring her in?

Hugh: Can I talk to you guys for a second?  You realize we can't arrest without an official confession or actual evidence that he tampered with the tape?  We can't hold him forever on suspicion.  We have to cut him loose.

John: I'm going back on down to the lab.

Bo: Ok.  Your loyalty to manning is going to keep you behind bars for a long, long time, Mr. Denton.  Are you sure that's worth it?

Hugh: We can't keep this deal on the table very much longer.

John: Hey, what do you know -- I ran into the tech on my way down.  You're cooked, jerk.  This tape has definitely been compromised.  There's even a couple of prints they pulled off.  They're running it through the system right now as we speak.

Bo: That's all we need, then.

John: Hmm.

Bo: I mean -- right?

Hugh: Yeah.

Bo: You don't want to still cut a deal with this guy because --

John: No.

Hugh: As long as he comes clean before we get the goods on him.  This is your last chance, Mr. Denton.  It's only going to get worse from here on out.  What's it going to be?

Denton: Damn you, Todd Manning.

Todd: You changed me.  You and the kids have changed me.  I'm a human being now.  Only an animal would kill a pregnant woman.  I didn't do this.  You have to believe me.  I think somewhere deep down inside of you, you know it.  I just can't live without you.

Blair: I'm no good without you, either.

Bo: So, Manning had you doctor the tape.

Denton: Yeah, yeah, he did it all.

Bo: Hmm.  Hensen?  Would you escort Mr. Denton down to the interview room and take his statement, please?

Ofc.  Hensen: Let's go.  Come on.

[Phone rings]

Rex: Hello?

Bo: Give me the phone.

Rex: Yeah.

Bo: Buchanan.

Rex: Well, that lab sure is fast.

John: Yeah.

Hugh: "L.P.D. Christmas party 2004."  That's good.  I had a feeling.

John: It was a great party.  I never said it was the tape from "The Sun."

Bo: Thank you.  Bye-bye.

John: Do you want me to handle something?

Bo: No, no, no.  Nora's still unconscious, so there's nothing that anybody can do right now.  That was Michael and Marcie.  They said Matthew is sound asleep.  So I want to make sure that Todd Manning doesn't get away with murder.

Viki: Dr. Jamison, how is she?

Phil: Jessica is back, but struggling hard to stay.  She's resting now, but shouldn't be left alone anytime in the near future.

Viki: Of course not.

Clint: Is there something that we should be doing for Jessica other than just be with her?

Phil: She's going to need intensive psychotherapy.  We have to determine the trauma that caused the fragment.  Then we can start the integration process.

Antonio: Doctor, she's been calling me.  Can I see her?

Phil: Yeah, yeah, it's all right.

Antonio: All right, thank you.

Viki: Well, thank God.  We have Jessica back.

Nash: Yeah, but what about Tess?

Clint: Nash, you heard the doctor.  The goal here is to merge Jessica's two personalities into one.

Nash: I know that.  Is she even going to remember me?

Antonio: I was afraid I'd never see you again.

Jessica: I wanted to get back to you so bad.  But every time I thought that I could get through, I just -- I don't know, I couldn't.

Antonio: It's ok.  All that matters is that you're back now.

Jessica: I need you with me.  You and my family -- all of you keep me strong.

Antonio: Well, they're all outside waiting to see you.

Jessica: Dad.

Clint: How you doing, honey?  I'm right here.

Jessica: Oh.  Mom, it's so good to see you.

Viki: Well, you can't imagine how happy we are to see you.

Antonio: You've seen for yourself now.  She's got a family, friends, a home, people who want to take care of her.  So why don't you go back to California where you belong.

Nash: Because I belong with Tess.  I love her.  And she has a family here, too, especially if she's having my baby. I'm not going anywhere, Antonio.

Adriana: Thanks.  I guess I'll go home.

Billy: But he just got here.

Adriana: Who?

Billy: The guy you were with earlier, Rex Balsom?  He is the guy you were waiting for, right?

Rex: You were waiting for me?

Adriana: I wanted to find out what happened at the police station.

Rex: Denton spilled his guts.  Thanks to you, I got the cops the lead they needed to break the case.

Adriana: Really?

Rex: You did good, Duchess.  So now that you know, you might as well go home -- unless there was another reason you were hanging around.

Adriana: Actually, there was.

Evangeline: When were you at Statesville?

Natalie: Earlier tonight.

Evangeline: Did anyone hear you talking to John Doe?

Natalie: I -- I don't know.  Maybe the guards.

Evangeline: What exactly did he say?

Natalie: Exactly?  I don't know.  He just -- he promised me that no phony Cristian Vega would ever walk out of there.

Evangeline: Excuse me.  I have to get a message to my client.

Natalie: What's the point?  He doesn't need you anymore.

Evangeline: I don't have time to argue with you tonight.  So hate me if you want, but I'm trying to free an innocent man, and someday you're going to thank me.

Cristian: You know, you're not the only one with allies, Hesser.

Carlo: "Allies"?  Reading those law books have certainly broadened your vocabulary.  But it hasn't put you any closer to getting out of here, has it?

Cristian: Oh, I'll get out.  But if I happen to end up dead first, people are going to start asking questions -- people who get answers.

Carlo: Friends can be a valuable asset.  I have quite a few myself -- inmates, guards. Why, I even consider the warden a close personal ally.  And like your friends -- they watch my back.

Guard: What you got there, Wilson?  A book?  I didn't know you could read.

Todd: Thank you so much.

Blair: Well, don't make me sorry.

Todd: I won't.  I promise.  I'll make you happy.

Blair: Oh, I could use some happy.

Todd: Then let's start right now.  Let's go upstairs and hold each other.  Tomorrow morning it'll be a new world.

Blair: Oh, God, Todd, I hope so.

Todd: Go ahead, go up.  I'll lock everythingP.

Blair: Don't be long.

Todd: Uh-uh.

Clint: Something told me I ought to be in Llanview, and I'm not going to go anywhere else until I know you're ok.

Jessica: I feel better already.  Mom, a y you ok?

Viki: Oh, honey, I'm fine.  Why?

Jessica: Just -- I know some of the things that Tess did to you must have --

Viki: Shh, shh, shh, shh.  That's all in the past.  It's over, ok, and it doesn't matter.  We are just so grateful that you're safe.  And, sweetheart, I swear to you we will get through this.

Jessica: I don't know.  Tess is really strong, and she has a life of her own now with somebody else.

Viki: We know about the baby.

Jessica: You do?

Viki: Mm-hmm.  It's ok, honey.  It's ok.  And if you want to talk about it, we'll do that at another time, ok?

Jessica: Ok.

Viki: Right now it's very important that you get right back into therapy, ok?

Jessica: I just want to go home and spend the night in my bedroom, in my own bed.

Viki: Oh, why don't I ask Dr. Jamison, ok?

Jessica: Thank you.  And I really want to spend some time with Antonio, as well.

Viki: Sure.

Jessica: And -- that guy, Tess' boyfriend, Nash, I -- is he here?

Clint: Yeah, darling, he is here.

Jessica: I just -- I think that I should see him.

[Phone rings]

Todd: Yeah?  Commissioner?  He didn't want me to know he's on his way up?  Thank you.

[Phone rings]

Todd: Damn it, Denton, answer.

Todd's voice: "Blair, I am doing what I have to do for all of us.  I'll call your cell as soon as I can.  I love you."

Rex: So, why else were you waiting for me?

Adriana: I wanted to talk to you.  I'm looking for a job, and I was wondering if there's an opening at ultra violet.

Rex: You want to work at my club?

Adana: Sure.  Why not?

Rex: Well, there is an opening, but you can't have it.

Evangeline: Yes, I know it's late, but it's not against the rules for me to speak to my client.  You know what?  Dot bother I'll call back.

Hugh: You look like you could use a friend.

Evangeline: Yep.  Too bad I don't have one here.

Hugh: Yeah, I know we might be on opposite sides of the courtroom someday, but there's no reason and no law that says we can't be friendly out here.  You want to have a seat?

Evangeline: Why not?

Hugh: So, what's bothering you, counselor?  Something tells me it's personal.

Evangeline: Something tells me I shouldn't be talking to you about this.

Hugh: You'd rather be having this conversation with Nora?

Evangeline: Yes.

Hugh: Tough shoes to fill.  Damn near impossible, but I can try and fake it.

Evangeline: I just miss her so much.

Hugh: We all do.

Evangeline: Nothing I can do to help her, and there's nothing you can do to help me.  It's about work.

Hugh: As acting D.A., I guess I can't be aiding and abetting a defense attorney, huh?

Evangeline: Maybe you can.

Natalie: Hey, I was looking for you.

John: Hey.  We just got a break in the Cochran case.

Natalie: Really?

John: Yeah, well, I guess you're going to hear about it soon enough.  Your uncle is about to be charged.

Natalie: Well, Todd was never really my favorite person, anyway.  You know, he -- with everything that Margaret did to him and his family, I'm not really that shocked.  But still -- God, mom -- she's got so much to worry about -- her health and Jessica.

John: How's Jess doing?

Natalie: She's ok.  She's sleeping.  Mom told Kevin and I to take off.  She promised to call when she wakes up.  You know, I just hate going home and waiting.

John: I know you're worried about her.

Natalie: I'm trying not to show it.

John: I recognize the symptoms.

Natalie: Yeah, I'm just trying to be so strong for mom and for Jessica.  I mean, Jessica was two different people for month and no one even knew.  I mean, how could we not see something right in front of our face?

John: Sometimes you see what you want to see.

Natalie: Does that mean that you don't see all of my flaws?

John: What flaws?

Viki: Jessie, I don't really think that seeing Nash right now is a very good idea.

Jessica: I know.  I know that you think that it's going to bring Tess back out, but it's not going to happen with Antonio here.

Clint: Well, I don't know.  I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree with your mother.

Jessica: Please.  It's really important.

Viki: Well, why don't we ask Dr. Jamison and see if he thinks it's all right?

Jessica: Thank you.

Phil: I understand you want to see Nash Brennan.

Jessica: Please.

Phil: Well, it might be good for you to start facing the part of your life you've been burying.

Jessica: So it's ok?

Phil: There's one condition.  I stay here while you talk to him.

Jessica: Of course.

Phil: Mr. Brennan?

Nash: I take it this means you know who I am.

Jessica: We've met a couple of times.

Nash: Yeah.

Jessica: I know that you care about Tess a lot.

Nash: I love her.  I love you.

Jessica: I'm sorry.  You don't know who I am.  I -- the woman that you were with -- she's not real.  She only existed because I was sick, and -- and once I get well, she'll be gone.

Nash: Everyone keeps telling me that.

Nash: You don't know Tess.  She's so alive.  I'm sorry -- I'm just -- I'm having a hard time with this, the whole split personality -- it's --

Jessica: I know. I know.  It's -- it must be weird.

Nash: Yeah.

Jessica: I'm sorry.  It's not fair to you.  And I'm also sorry because I can't worry about that right now.  I need all of my strength to get well, and -- you're making things harder.  When you're around, I -- I get weaker, and -- please, I'm sorry, I'm begging you, just don't try to see me anymore.

[Doorbell rings]

Blair: Todd?  Bo.

Bo: Blair.  I need to see Todd.

Blair: Well, why, Bo?  Didn't he answer all your questions down at the station?

Bo: Is he here?

Blair: He must be in the kitchen.

Blair: Look, I -- I don't understand.  He was just here and we were fine.  He -- I was waiting for him upstairs.

Bo: Do you mind if I have a look around?

Blair: You're scaring me, No.  What's going on?

Bo: Blair, I have a warrant for Todd's arrest -- for the murder of Margaret Cochran and her unborn child.  His child.

Nash: I can't just leave.  What about our baby?

Jessica: This baby is Antonio's and mine.

Nash: No, you don't know that.  You and I -- ok.  Tess and I were lovers.

Jessica: Look, I told you, I don't even know you.  And I'm sorry.  As for you and Tess, I -- I just think that it would be better if you pretended like you never met her.

Nash: I see Tess in you.  Oh man.  She knows I love her.  She loves me, too.  I don't want to get in the way of you getting better.  I'll go.

Jessica: Thank you.

Nash: But as for forgetting about you -- how could I forget about the best thing that ever happened to me?

Adriana: Why won't you give me a chance?  I have experience.  I worked in the school cafeteria.

Rex: We did make a good team against Denton.

Adriana: See?  I'm perfect for the job.

Rex: I don't think so.

Adriana: Why not?

Rex: Because if I hire you, it would only be to get near you.  And then it would be the same old story.  We'd start getting close.  And then good old duke would walk in the door and you'd throw yourself on him to distract yourself from how you feel about me and I'd feel like crap.  So if you're really looking for a job, you better look elsewhere.  I'll see you.

Evangeline: So I keep calling, but I can't get through to my client, I can't get through to the supervisor.  And I was thinking, as acting District Attorney, maybe you could --

Hugh: Well, the title does come with a perk or two.  What's your client's name?

Evangeline: John Doe, and that is his ID number.  I would really appreciate it, I mean, if you could call right away.  I'm afraid he might be in terrible danger.

Cristian: "Out on schedule"?  They're planning a break.  If Hesser gets out, there's not going to be a way to prove I was brainwashed.  Hey, guard!  I need to talk to the warden.

Guard: You got any idea what time it is?

Cristian: Look, I don't care!  I need to talk to him now!

Bo: How long ago did Todd leave?

Blair: I didn't -- I didn't see him go.  I mean, he was here, we were fine.  Look, Bo, I think you've made a mistake here.

Bo: No, the only mistake was not keeping him at the station.

Blair: But he was at "The Sun" when Margaret was murdered.  He has an alibi.  He told you that.

Bo: Not anymore.  That tape was a phony.  Yeah, Maxwell?  Did you see Todd Manning leave the building?  All right.  I want you to go down to the garage and see if his car is still there, then call me right back, ok?  Thank you.  I bet your doorman tipped him off that I was on my way out.

Blair: Come on, Bo.  He wouldn't murder Margaret.  She's pregnant with his baby.

Bo: Blair, you are the last person that needs a history lesson on Todd Manning.  You know how far he would go to keep a lid on a secret.  And now you expect me to believe that he's not capable of murdering Margaret Cochran after everything she's done to him --

[Phone rings]

Bo: Everything she's done to you, your entire family?  Buchanan.  All right, thanks.  Todd's car is still in the basement.

Blair: Come on.  He wouldn't run, Bo.  He's going to walk through that door any mine, I'm telling you.

Bo: Or maybe he rented a car when he was planning his escape, just to have it ready for a moment just like this.  See, that's what a guilty man does.

Evangeline: What did they say?

Hugh: Well, they're having problems with the phone lines down at Statesville, and they're not allowing any calls through the prisoners until they get it fixed.  Happens there all the time.

Evangeline: Yeah.  Maybe.

Hugh: I spoke to the assistant warden.  He said not to worry, though.  You should be able to talk to your client first thing in the morning.

Evangeline: I sure hope so.

Guard: I'm not going to hassle the warden at this hour.  What's the problem, anyway?  Hey, look, look, you can level with me, ok?  I know your so-called suicide attempt was a setup.

Cristian: How'd you know that?

Guard: Your lawyer, Williamson -- she asked me to watch your back.  She thinks that Hesser's still going through with the hit.

Cristian: Look, some of the prisoners are planning to bust out.  If I can't talk to the warden, at least let me see his assistant.

Guard: It's too much trouble, all right?  You shouldn't be seen talking to him.  You give me what you got, and I'll take it to the assistant warden tonight.

Cristian: I don't know.

Guard: Hey, I'm on your side, all right?  And your doing this -- you're doing the right thing.

Cristian: That was written for Hesser.  Wilson did it.

Guard: Don't worry.  I'll take care of it.

John: Want to grab a quick beer at Rodi's?

Natalie: Uh-uh.  Actually, I was just at Rodi's.  Ran into Evangeline.  She about bit my head off for going to see her precious client.

John: Yeah, what'd she say?

Natalie: That she's still defending him, even though he doesn't want to have his appeal.  And then she said the strangest thing.

John: What was that?

Natalie: She said that everything she was doing for John Doe, that -- that one day I would thank her.

[Phone rings]

Natalie: Excuse me.  It's mom.  Hi.

Viki: Sweetheart, hi, it's mom.  I thought you might want to know that Jessica is back and she's awake.

Natalie: Oh.  How is she?

Viki: She's better.  Antonio's actually driving her home right now.

Natalie: Ok, well, I'll be at Llanfair and I'll leave right now.

Viki: Natalie, darling, listen.  She's going to be relying on us all over the next days.  You know that.  And I think maybe tonight she really needs to get some rest.  I think the less excitement, the better for her.  And I think maybe you should get some sleep, too, hmm?

Natalie: Ok, are you sure?

Viki: Absolutely.

Natalie: I guess I am a little tired.

Viki: Go to sleep, and I will tell Jessie you'll see her in the morning, ok?

Natalie: All right, mom, thank you.  I'll see you tomorrow.  Jessica's coming home from the hospital.

John: That's a good sign.

Natalie: Yeah, yeah, mom insisted that I take the night off, which is just as well because I'm exhausted.

John: You too tired to grab that beer?

Natalie: Mind if we just go to bed?

John: Not at all.

Clint: Doctor, are you sure that it's ok for Jessica to be going home?

Phil: As long as she has someone with her at all times, she won't be a danger to herself or others.  In fact, being in familiar surroundings might be helpful at this point.

Viki: And her therapy can begin in the morning?

Phil: Oh, we've already scheduled a time.

Viki: Well, I thank you very, very much.  I know that Jessie has a long and very difficult road ahead of her, but thank heavens at least she's on the road to recovery.

Jessica: It's hard to believe I'm actually here with you.  I'm so afraid that this is all going to be just a dream and when I wake up I'll be trapped inside Tess again.

Antonio: Hey, let's not talk about that right now, ok?  Please.  We're together now and that's the way it's going to be from here on out.

Nash: So that's the first flight you got to San Francisco tomorrow morning?  Yeah, all right, I'll make the reservation on the card you got.  Yeah, yeah, an hour before.  Thank you.  Can I get a glass of Grenache, please?

Billy: It's red or white.

Nash: Just let it sit on your tongue.  Feel the layers of textures fill your mouth.  All right, now swallow.  What do you think?

Tess: I think I'm getting it.

Nash: Red.

Tess' voice: "Nash, if you're reading this, then the worst has happened and I'm gone -- maybe for good.  I can't make it without you.  You gave me a reason to exist.  But please know that I will never stop trying to find my way back to you.  I love you.  Tess."

Bo: This is the commissioner.  I want an A.P.B. put out on Todd Manning.  This is for a double homicide.

Todd's voice: I don't know how to thank you.

Blair's voice: Yeah, well, you better not make me sorry.

Todd's voice: I won't.  I'm going to make you happy, I promise.

Todd: I got to explain to her.

[Tires screech]

>> On the next "One Life to Live" --

Nash: I am not leaving until I speak with the woman who wrote that letter.

Blair: You knew that Margaret stabbed Todd, that it wasn't an accident.

Kelly: Todd told us that he was going to set Margaret straight.  He meant that he was going to murder her.

Todd: Oh, my God, Jessica.  Jessica!
