Nora: Barber's attorney is downstairs with him right now, ready to press charges against Marcie and Rex.

Bo: Yeah, they crossed the line.

Nora: "Crossed the line"?  They stomped all over it.  For God's sake, Bo, Marcie might well have driven him right over the edge.

Bo: The guy's crazy.

Nora: But not legally insane.  At one point, he did know right from wrong.  But with Marcie taunting him and bringing up traumatic events in his childhood and Rex there throwing fuel on the fire -- well, he might be having a psychotic break.

Bo: You don't think the guy is faking it like he did in court this morning?

Nora: Oh, I did hear he put on quite a show for the judge.

Bo: Oh, you should have seen him.  If I had known better, I would have thought he was a candidate for the funny farm.

Nora: Well, he'll probably be playing bonkers right up through the trial.

Man: My client isn't playing anything.  Hayes Barber is clinically insane.

Nora: Oh, he is no more insane than I am.

Man: Well, with all due respect, counselor, you did marry a homicidal, self-loathing gay man.  So you might want to refrain from comparing my client's sanity or lack thereof to your own.

Nora: You be very careful what you say to me, counselor, or you might find yourself with a new girlfriend -- me.

Rex: Hey, did you get Barber to talk?  Did he say where Natty is, huh?  What's your big hurry?

Man: My client doesn't know even where he is, much less Ms. Vega.

Rex: "Much less"?  We're talking about my sister here.

Man: And any hopes that you ever have of finding her may be gone, thanks to you.

Evangeline: No!

John: We need to stop this.

Evangeline: No, stop!  Please -- please, don't knock me out again, please.  I won't give you any trouble.

John: Bring her out of it.

Evangeline: I won't.

Travis: Evangeline, I want you to take a deep breath.  I want you to pull back from this experience, just like you're watching a movie, and just relax for a moment.  Now, look, I know you're worried.  She's almost there.  Just give me a couple more minutes.  Now, Evangeline, I want you to look at the picture and tell me what you see.

Evangeline: I see myself lying in the back seat of a car.

John: You said something about a map.  Can you tell me about the map?

Evangeline: No.  He's watching me.  I see myself trying to stay awake, but it's -- it's hard.  He's making threats.

John: What did he say?

Evangeline: It sounds like Hayes.  Hayes is out to get me, me and Natalie.  Hayes -- Hayes is going to burn us alive.  I'm scared.  I'm so scared.  I don't want to die.  I got to get out of here.  I got to get away.  I got to find something, anything.  I got to look around.  I got to find something.  No.  I don't want to die.  No.  That's it -- wait.  That's it, that's it -- on the pocket of the back seat, that's it.  That can help us find Natalie.

Natalie: Help.  Help me.  Help.  I need help, I need help.  Can you hear me?  Somebody, help me.

Antonio: You have a -- a split personality?

Jessica: Dissociative identity disorder.

Antonio: What your mother had.  So this -- this personality -- Tess -- what do you know about her?

Jessica: Well, very little, except that she -- she hates you.  I'm so sorry, Antonio.  I'm sorry.

Antonio: No.  No.  No, you don't have to apologize for anything.  Why didn't you tell me sooner?

Jessica: Well, I tried to tell my mom, and Tess came out.  She gave her a heart attack.  I could have killed her, Antonio.  I never know when she's going to come out.  She could come out right here, right now while I'm sitting in front of you.

Antonio: I would know.  I would know it wasn't you.

Jessica: No, she knows exactly what to say, and she told me not to tell you about her, and I just did.  And she wants to kill you.  And I can't stop her.

Nash: Tess would love that.

Antonio: Look, your alter can't do anything to me, but she's hurting you, ok?  Baby, you're the one we have to take care of.

Jessica: No, you don't know, Antonio.  She tricked you into thinking that it was me before and she'll do it again.

Antonio Not anymore, now that I know.

Jessica: Antonio, she was just here.

Antonio: But she's gone.

Jessica: But she's trying to come out again and she's trying to get rid of you.

Antonio: She hasn't, has she?  She's not here, Jess, ok?  You've won this one.

Jessica: I thought I could do this alone, right?  I guess not.  It's weird.  It's like waking up from a dream that I don't remember a thing, I don't remember where I've been, what I did.

Antonio: Well, why don't we find out?

Jessica: How?

Antonio: Well, you -- Tess -- gave that building over there as an address for your job interview across the street.  Talk to some people, find out where Tess is staying, what this Tess is all about, and then figure out a way to get rid of her.

Nash: Oh, this is perfect.  She'll love it.

Woman: Lucky lady.  What's her name?

Nash: Tess.

Woman: We could have it engraved.

Nash: Oh, no, there's no time.  She's meeting me.  Can't keep the lady waiting.

John: Does she know where Natalie is?

Evangeline: It's something.  I see it.

Travis: Ok, Evangeline.  I want you to relax a little bit deeper, take a deep breath in, and breathe out and just close your eyes and relax.

Evangeline: It's there.  I see it.

John: What?

Evangeline: Oh, my God.  What if he can tell?  Stay calm.  Stay calm.  Stay --

John: What's going on?

Travis: Look, she was under the influence of chloroform while she was in the back seat of that car, and this is the first time she's going to access these memories, so she's going to experience some fear and some panic with this. Evangeline, what's happening now?

Evangeline: He's driving again.  And I'm still -- I'm trying to look at the map, but he keeps turning around to look at me.  There must not be any place to pull over because he keeps driving.

Travis: Evangeline, I want you to focus your awareness.  Is there anything you can tell us about the map?

Evangeline: It's -- it's -- it's strange?  I can't figure out what -- I got to get it out of the pocket.  But he keeps turning around, so I'm afraid if I move, he might see.

John: Ok.  Did you ever get a look at the map?

Evangeline: I'm trying.  I'm trying.  I need it.  I know, I need it.  It's just --

Travis: Evangeline, relax.

Evangeline: I'm trying.

Travis: Relax.  Now, I want you to tell me what's important about this map to you?

Evangeline: There's something on it, something.  It's -- it's writing, circles.  Circles.  He's circled parts of the map.  And one of the circles has an x on it.

John: Where was the x?

Evangeline: I don't know, but there's writing.

John: What did it say?

Evangeline: It says "this is where whoever Mc Bain picks dies."

Todd: Bl-- Blair -- Blair?

Antonio: Jess?  What's the matter?  Don't you want to find out what Tess has been up to?

Jessica: I tried to find out about her before, and it didn't help.  I couldn't -- I couldn't stop her from taking over.

Antonio: But it's different now, ok?  You're not fighting her alone.

Jessica: Look, I love you for wanting to help, but --

Antonio: She can't hurt me, Jess.  All right?  And the more you know about her, the more it gives us the upper hand.

Jessica: I just -- I don't want to be anywhere around Tess.  I don't want to be anywhere around her life.  I just really don't think that I can handle it.

Antonio: Ok.  Ok.  Then we won't go there, not now.  Let's just get you out of here, get you back home.

 

Fred: Nash.

Nash: Fred, my man.  What is going on?

Fred: Well, you tell me.  How did things go with Dennis Hunt?

Nash: Uh --

Fred: Nash?

Nash: Yeah.

Fred: Focus.  How did things go with that money guy I set you up with?

Nash: We are talking, he's interested, and I may be getting my winery after all.

Fred: Yeah, I'm glad things are finally breaking for you.

Nash: I'm telling you, between this and my lady, things are feeling good.

Rex: Look, whatever I might have done to Hayes, that freak deserved it.

Man: Oh, he deserved to have the last shreds of sanity driven from him?

Rex: Isn't that what you wanted?  Makes this case a slam-dunk for you.  You can make partner in your firm, make your wife and kids proud that my sister might be dying and you don't give a damn.

Bo: Balsom.  I'll handle this.

Man: Please.  By all means, do something about him.

Bo: Him?  He's Natalie Vega's brother.  I'm her uncle.  If I'm going to do anything to anybody about this, it's going to be you and your client.

Man: Mr. Barber has suffered enough abuse at the hands of you and the others that you let harass him.

Bo: Do you want to talk about abuse and harassment?  Then talk to Balsom here.  He can tell you all about how Barber almost killed him and Marcie Walsh both.

Man: Listen, if you don't want a mistrial, I suggest you put a leash on Mr. Balsom.

Bo: Put him on a leash?  I want to lock him up in the cell with Barber and let him do whatever he wants until he gets barber to tell us where Natalie Vega is.  And if you have a problem with that, I'd take it up with D.A. Hanen, ok?  But I'll bet you don't get far, because you're not making a lot of friends around here.

Man: I've said what I came to say.  I want to see my client.

Bo: Be my guest.  You do remember where we keep the bad guys, don't you?

Rex: Hmm. Thanks for backing me up.

Bo: How much longer am I going to have to bail your butt out of trouble?

Rex: You know the answer to that.

Bo: Yeah -- till we find Natalie.

John: Are you sure we should go on?  We can end this.

Evangeline: "This is where whoever Mc Bain picks dies."  I don't know if that means, I don't know what he's planning, but I have to find out where it is.  It's important.  I know it.

Travis: Evangeline, would you like to go further now?

Evangeline: I have to.  I have to get the map out of the pocket.

John: Did you get a look at the map?

Evangeline: Yes.

John: Ok, can you see where the x is?

Evangeline: I've got it.

John: You can see where the x is?

Evangeline: Yes.  No, it's hard to tell.  It's -- it isn't a road map.  It's a topographic map.

John: Ok.  That's good.  Did you get a look at the terrain?  Maybe a valley, a river?

Evangeline: He's stopping the car.  I have to look fast.  No.  Don't.

John: What's going on?

Evangeline: He's going to chloroform me again.  I got to get it.  I've got to get another look at the map.  I've got to get another look at the map.

John: Did you?

Evangeline: Everything's going dark.  It's like I -- I'm underwater.  The map, I don't know -- I can't see.

John: Hey --

Evangeline: I can't see.

John: It's ok.  It's ok.  I'm right here, all right?  She's told us all she can.

Travis: Ok, slow down, Evangeline.  Just take a deep breath and breathe out.  Just relax.  Are there any other details about this experience?

Evangeline: Yes.  There's something else.  It's about the map.

Fred: Look, let's get out of this rain.

Nash: Hey, look, I'm supposed to meet Tess here any minute.

Fred: Ok.  Look, we go back how far?  I have never seen you this whipped.

Nash: "Whipped"?  No, no, no.  Nobody is holding a gun to my head, all right?  And those are not lash marks on my back, buddy boy.

Fred: Well, she must be something.

Nash: She is something and a biscuit.

Fred: So, this one could actually last for more than a month or two, huh?

Nash: Give me a little credit.

Fred: That is giving you credit.

Nash: All right, so I haven't actually met "the one" yet.  I mean --

Fred: All right, so -- so you're saying this girl is?

Nash: If she'll have me, yeah.

Fred: All right.  So what's the word on her?  Where's she from?

Nash: I don't know.

Fred: Well, where'd she go to school?

Nash: I don't know.

Fred: Does she have a job?

Nash: No.

Fred: Zero out of three.  So, you know, why bother getting to know each other when you're living together?

Nash: You know, it's a funny thing. I mean, I feel like I do know her.  I mean, I don't know about her, but I -- I know who she is.  Hey, look, why don't you stick around, all right?  I mean, she's coming and you can see for yourself how amazing she is.  She's amazing.

Fred: No, look -- look, I got to run.  Maybe we can hook up later.

Nash: All right, let's do that.

Fred: Ok.

Nash: I'm not going anywhere and neither is my Tess.  All right.

Antonio: Do you want to talk to Dr. Jamison?  Do you want to call St. Ann's?  Because if you're that worried about Tess coming out, then maybe we should do something to keep it from happening.

Jessica: What, like lock me up?

Antonio: Well, if that's what you think will work.

Jessica: It didn't before.

Antonio: Ok.  Ok, so what do you think you should do?

Jessica: I'm not sure.  I really -- I don't know what makes Tess come out.  But I think -- I think that she is afraid of you.  I think that she's afraid of how strong our love is.

Antonio: Well, then I'm here.  Ok?  I mean, if I'm the reason that Tess stays away, I'm not leaving your side.

Jessica: Even if it means you're putting yourself in danger?

Antonio: Listen, we were together all that time at the coffee shop and the entire drive back, and she still hasn't come out.

Jessica: No, you're right.  She didn't at all.  I don't even feel her inside me.

Antonio: Then it's just us.

Jessica: I missed you so much, Antonio.

Antonio: I missed you.

Jessica: I love you.  And nothing, no one is going to change that.  No, I can't.

Antonio: What's the matter?

Jessica: Antonio, we can't make love.  I can't.

Todd: Ha --

Margaret's voice: I know you can get very mad at me.

Margaret: But you would never kill your own baby.  You can't have two families for one man, so, well, what could I do?  We're just going to have to eliminate one of them.

Todd: Agh --

Natalie: You came through for me, John.  And now I'm letting you down.  You know, you tried to save me from burning alive, and now I'm going to die here.  I don't want to die.  I --

Natalie: It's time to say goodbye.

Evangeline: I see myself struggling with him.  I see myself struggling to stay conscious.  I'm about to pass out, but right before I do, I see it.  I see it.

John: What did you see?

Evangeline: It's a map of Llantano mountain.

John: Are you sure?

Evangeline: Positive.  That's where Hayes is going to take us -- me or Natalie -- whichever one John chooses.  Hayes is going to take us to Llantano mountain to die.

Todd: Uh -- ah!

Bo: Now, Viki, we may have a lead.  It might tell us where Natalie is.  Ok.  I'll keep you posted.  Do you even know how to knock?

Rex: What's going on with Evangeline?

Bo: Why do you want to know?

Rex: I saw her earlier.  Something's going on with her and Mc Bain.  Aren't you going to check on her or anything?

Bo: Whatever's going on right now, I'm going to let it play out, ok, because if I go in there, I could screw it up.

Rex: So, Evangeline knows more than she was letting on?

Bo: More than she knew herself.

Rex: What are we talking?  Hypnosis?

Bo: Why would you jump to that?

Rex: Because there's a hypnotist in there with her?  I've seen them on TV.

Bo: Who's the cop here?

Rex: Look, just tell me.  Do you think Evangeline knows where to find Natty?

[Knock on door]

Rex: Come in.  I see at least somebody knocks before entering.

Nora: I need a one-on-one with you.

Rex: I'm gone.

Bo: Oh, hey, hey, you stay where I can see you, and don't go near the task force room.  Don't do that.

Nora: Barber's attorney is not letting this thing go with Marcie and Rex.  We got to do something about this.

Bo: We don't have to do squat.  Forget Holland, forget he was here, and forget what he said about Colson.

Nora: Oh, it was a sucker punch that I walked right into.  I'm fine.

Bo: Good.

Nora: Look, Holland doesn't have a case.  He's just blowing smoke, but he could make things not so nice for Marcie and Rex.

Bo: Not if we don't let him.  I hope you're with me on this.

Nora: Bo, I'm -- I'm planning a whole case around the fact that Barber knew exactly what he was doing.  If Marcie and Rex have messed that up, we've got big problems.

Bo: My money says he's faking it.

Nora: I hope you're right.

Bo: Are you ok?

Nora: Yeah, I'm fine.

Evangeline: I see the mountain, but Llantano mountain is so huge.

John: Ok.  This place where you saw the X.

Evangeline: Where it says "whoever Mc Bain picks dies."

John: Do you remember what part of the mountain it was on?

Evangeline: I think it's on the right side, the eastern part of the map.

John: Eastern part -- are you sure?

Evangeline: I see it.  And now everything's going dark. And now I'm waking up, I'm in a basement.  There's Natalie.  Oh, my God, I hope she's still alive.  Oh, please.

John: Ok.  I think we got enough.

Travis: Ok.  Ok, Evangeline, I'm going to bring you out of it now.  When I count from one to three, you'll come back bright and alert with all your conscious recall.  One, two, and three.  Wide awake.

Evangeline: How'd I do?

John: You're amazing.  I don't know how to thank you.

Todd: Huh -- ah!  Ha --

Antonio: I thought you were happy to be back here and that you felt safe.

Jessica: Oh, I do.

Antonio: But you can't make love to me.

Jessica: Oh.  I want to, Antonio, I really do, but I just can't.

Antonio: Because of Tess?  You're afraid it'll bring her out?

Jessica: Yeah, it does have to do with tess.

Antonio: She can't touch us.  I won't let her.

Jessica: But she got out of St. Ann's.  Ok, there's no telling what she's capable of.

Antonio: Look, she didn't hurt anyone there, if that's what you're thinking.

Jessica: I thought locking myself up in St. Ann's was the right thing to do.  I thought that I had everything under control.  She -- she wants to destroy everything, everyone that I care about, especially you.  She'd do anything to break us up.  She's not going to stop until she does.

Antonio: Was she the one who took off your engagement ring?

Jessica: Oh, my God, my ring, my bracelet.

Antonio: No, no, I got that.  I -- I found it.

Jessica: Where?

Antonio: In New York, in the street.  That's how I ended up finding you.

Jessica: Oh, Tess must have dropped it, I guess.

Antonio: No.  No, the clasp wasn't broken.  She probably threw it away.

Jessica: Probably, yeah.  She doesn't like to have any attachments with any men.  And that's why I can't make love to you.

Nash: The inscription in your bracelet -- "to Jessica.  Love always, Antonio."

Nash: Tess, where are you?  I mean, I don't know whether to be worried or pissed, but call me when you get this, ok?

Antonio: And the ring -- they're not important.

Jessica: Antonio, you don't understand.

Antonio: I'm trying, Jess.  I'm -- I'm trying.

Jessica: I know.  And I know I must sound crazy.  I'm talking about her like she's another person.

Antonio: She is.  I do get that.

Jessica: And you understand that I have no control over her, you know, no matter what I say or what I do --

Antonio: Yes.

Jessica: I have no control over what she does.

Antonio: Yes, and now that I know she exists, certain things are a lot more clear, except that --

Jessica: What?

Antonio: You can't make love to me.

Jessica: I told you --

Antonio: You told me what?  What, that you're afraid it'll bring Tess out?  I mean, you just said that when I'm with you it seems to keep her away.

Jessica: Antonio, I -- I love you.  That's why I can't --

Antonio: That's why you can't what?  I mean, what do you think -- what do you think Tess can do if we make love?

Jessica: It's not what I think she could do.  It's what -- oh, God.  It's what she's already done.

Antonio: What do you mean?

Jessica: Tess -- well, she got around.  She's -- she's kind of a party girl.

Antonio: Well, I know R.J. and Lindsay testified at the hearing that they saw you at that club.

Jessica: Yeah, that's not all.

Antonio: Talk to me, Jess.

Jessica: Antonio, I -- I can't make love to you because I don't want to put you at risk.

Nash: Ah!  Damn it, Tess!  Where the hell are you?  Even though it goes against everything we talked about, I think I'm starting to fall in love with you.

Tess: I think I'm falling in love with you, too.  When you come home later, there are some things that I have to tell you about me.

Nash: Never con a con artist, huh?  Should have seen that one coming a mile away.

Jessica: I didn't want it to be true.  When I went looking for answers about Tess, I -- I didn't think that it would be that bad.

Antonio: What has she done to us, Jess?

Jessica: She thought that it could, that -- that she could do that.

Antonio: What are you telling me?  That she slept with someone else?

Jessica: Not just with someone.  Tess -- she had a lot of sex with a lot of different men.

Asa: Margaret?  Are you here, woman?  Manning?  Ooh, ooh, I hope he -- I'll be damned.  It looks like things are -- are going the way I planned.  Hmm.  Oh, crazy-as-a-loon Margaret -- ugh -- and Manning must have -- yeah -- canceled each other out.  Ooh.  But where are the bodies?

Rex: What happened in there?  Did you remember where Natalie is?

Evangeline: Not the exact spot, but I'm hoping I pointed John in the right direction.

Rex: Where?  Where's my sister?

Bo: Evangeline, don't say another word.

Rex: Ok, I have a right to know.

Bo: We're close, Balsom.  Don't blow it now.

Rex: How close?  Do you know where she is?

Bo: We're checking.  We don't know for sure.

Rex: Somebody's got to.

Bo: Hey, hey!  I'm going to have a talk now with Evangeline in my office.  Evangeline?

Officer: Yeah.  So that creep finally came out of his coma, huh?  Yeah.  I'll tell the boss.

Rex: Nick Messina's among the living, huh?

Officer: Yeah, it sure looks like it.

Rex: Hmm.

John: Evangeline Williamson remembered some things under hypnosis -- seeing a map of Llantano mountain like this one.  Several locations on the map were circled.  One in particular was marked with an x on the east side of the mountain.  Now, we're proceeding under the assumption that barber intended to take Natalie or Evangeline to that spot, but I want all the circled areas searched.  I know it's a lot of ground to cover.  We're going to look by ground, air, and underground.  I'll get some professional spelunkers up there to go through the crevices and caves.  We're not coming back without Natalie.  Let's get to it.

Officer: Ok, let's go.

Evangeline: Go.  Find Natalie.  Bring her home.

Antonio: You had sex with other men?

Jessica: What do we do?

David: Spencer is cold and calculating.  Nothing has changed since he got to Llanview.

Spencer: Who's Margaret?

Todd: She's pregnant with my baby.
