One Life to Live Transcript Friday 4/29/05

John: This was not such a hot idea.
Natalie: What, coming over here? Or asking for complete honesty? Maybe you know exactly what you want.
John: Natalie --
Natalie: Maybe where you want to be is right here with me.
John: Definitely not a good idea.
Natalie: Like hell it's not.
Lisa: So everything's perfect between you and John. Well, you can't get much better than that.
Evangeline: Ok. Ok, it was a little stressful. It's always a little stressful bringing someone home to meet the family, you know, especially under those circumstances. And most guys wouldn't have had the guts to go through that.
Lisa: Honey, you know, John seems like a very good man. I like him.
Evangeline: Really? I got the impression he didn't pass the Williamson family test.
Lisa: Well, please, the important thing is that he is everything that you want and deserve.
Evangeline: He is, mom.
Antonio: What happened, Jess? How did the fire get started?
R.J.: That's a damn good question.
Antonio: R.J., calm down.
R.J.: My granddaughter is in your care for less than an hour, and she almost dies in a fire? Where the hell is she?
Michael: Jamie's lungs are clear. Her labs are normal. She's going to be just fine.
R.J.: Yeah, yeah, she'll be fine as long as she stays the hell away from these two. Listen, I'm Jamie's legal guardian, and I don't want these people anywhere near her. Am I clear?
Nora: Don't, don't, don't.
Daniel: What's wrong?
Nora: You've been lying to me, Daniel. You've been lying to me since the day we got married.
Daniel: Nora, I don't know what you're --
Nora: No, no, no. All those mysterious phone calls and the hang-ups and the disappearing for hours at a time -- either you tell me the truth right now, or this marriage is over.
Lisa: Ok, well, I have to admit I was up all night thinking about what you said -- about John not being able to say that he loves you.
Evangeline: I never should have said anything about that.
Lisa: Oh, why not? You don't think that's important?
Evangeline: Of course. Absolutely, I think it's important. That's why I've never allowed myself to be in this situation before. But, this is different. John has a past. It's a very painful past, and so I'm -- I'm giving him some time.
Lisa: Ok, I know that you're giving him the benefit of the doubt. You're in love. But, baby, if a man cannot tell you that he loves you, there is a problem.
John: I wish you hadn't done that.
Natalie: You do?
John: Natalie --
Natalie: Don't say anything. I'm the one who kissed you. I've been wanting to do that for a long time now. Michael told you.
John: It was a mistake to come here.
Natalie: So you're just going to leave? John, you liked that kiss. And you can deny it all you want, but I know the truth.
John: Natalie, I can't give you back what you want.
Natalie: How much did Michael tell you?
John: He didn't tell me anything. He let it slip that you still -- you still have feelings for me.
Natalie: And you didn't know that? Well, did your brother also mention to you that I know you have feelings for me, too, and that I heard you two talking and I know that you're bothered that I was dating Ron Walsh?
John: You took what I said out of context.
Natalie: I heard loud and clear. And why shouldn't I have heard? God, I'm going crazy thinking about you. Don't I have the right to know you feel the same way? The cards are out on the table. It's your move.
Jen: What are you doing here?
Rex: I didn't want you sitting here all alone wondering when the D.A. was going to show up with his handcuffs.
Jen: I'm not really in the mood to go out.
Rex: I figured. That's why I brought the fun to you.
Jen: A board game? It doesn't really seem like your style, Rex.
Rex: Well, this one is. The "playas" live life in the fast lane. It's all about mergers and acquisitions. The point is to make as much money as possible.
Jen: Hmm, or steal it?
Rex: Yeah, as long as you don't get caught.
Jen: That sounds like the Rex I know and --
Rex: Oh -- what was that you were about to say? It's good to see you smile, Jen.
Jen: Ok, you go first.
Daniel: I haven't lied to you.
Nora: You just lied to me again. That phone call earlier, the one where you said you were fighting with Riley -- you weren't fighting with Riley. You weren't even talking to Riley, were you? No, no, no, don't lie again. I know you weren't because I called Riley and he didn't know anything about it.
Daniel: Oh, now you're checking up on me?
Nora: I hate lies, Daniel.
Daniel: Well, so do I.
Nora: Don't lie to me! That phone call in Paris wasn't Riley either. I know it wasn't Riley, so who was it? Who is it, Daniel?
Daniel: I'm surprised you don't know, Nora. What, I'm surprised you didn't subpoena the phone records or tap the line. Did it ever occur to you just to ask?
Nora: I did ask, and you lied to me. I've been reduced to snooping on my husband. We haven't even been married a month.
Daniel: And do you regret it? Being married to me?
Nora: Lies and secrets have destroyed every relationship I have ever had. I thought we were different.
Daniel: We are, Nora. We're just trying to find --
Nora: Do I know even know anything about you at all?
Daniel: Now you're just being melodramatic.
Nora: Maybe. Maybe I am. Or maybe I'm just coming to my senses. You know what, it doesn't matter. If this isn't going to work out, let's just figure that out now. Let's -- I want to know right now.
Daniel: What is it that you want from me?
Nora: The truth, damn it!
Rex: No, I'm just lucky. Roll.
Daniel: Nora, wait, wait. I haven't been completely honest with you. I couldn't be.
Nora: You couldn't be? You couldn't be honest with me, Daniel? We're married. I married you because I love you, Daniel. There's -- there's nothing that you can say that's going to make me change the way I feel about you. This is it, Daniel. This is it for us.
Daniel: Ok. I'll tell you everything.
R.J.: You get one hour with your daughter, and you pass her off to someone else. I'm sure that will impress the judge.
Antonio: Let's not do this now.
Michael: I need to check Jamie's labs one more time. Then you can take her home, Mr. Gannon.
R.J.: Ok. Ok, sweetheart, you're going to go with the doctor. I'll be right here waiting for you, ok? Be right here.
R.J.: Now, you -- what the hell happened at my apartment?
Antonio: R.J., Back off. It wasn't her fault.
R.J.: How do you know? Were you there? Did you see something? No, because you were the only one there. I spoke to the babysitter. She told me that you sent her home? I could bring you up on criminal charges -- endangering the welfare of a minor!
Antonio: What happened in that apartment?
Jessica: I don't remember. I don't know.
Antonio: He's right. R.J.'s right. You and Jamie were the only two in that apartment before the fire started.
Jessica: So you think that I started it?
Antonio: Just tell me what happened.
Jessica: I don't know. I don't remember being at R.J.'s. I don't remember anything at all.
Rex: Look, you want me to torch this?
Jen: You're nuts.
Rex: You're not going to prison, Jen, not even in this stupid game.
Jen: You're really something, you know that?
Jen: You here to accuse me of murder again?
Riley: I want you back.
Jen: Even though you think I'm a killer?
Riley: I don't care.
Jen: Well, I do. I'm going to get arrested, I'm going to have a trial. What if I get off? What if -- what if I go free and they never find a killer? For the rest of our lives, you're going to look at me and you're going to wonder if I really did it.
Riley: No. I need you and I don't know if I can do this without you.
Jen: Well, you should have thought of that before you sided with your dad.
Riley: What are you looking at?
Rex: You, begging.
Riley: Go to hell.
Jen: Leave him alone.
Riley: Can I talk to you, please, without him hanging around?
Jen: Go home, Riley.
Riley: You are my home.
Jen: Not anymore.
Riley: I love you.
Jen: Stop saying that. I don't want your kind of love. I don't want to be with you anymore. Just get out. Get out of my life.
Rex: Yeah, you heard her. Get out.
Riley: Is that how you really feel?
John: We're just two screwed-up people in a world of screwed-up people, and you are making more out of this than there actually is.
Natalie: I can still feel your lips on mine. I bet you can, too.
John: You're making too much of that, too.
Natalie: You don't want me to be with another man. That screams jealousy.
John: Don't put words in my mouth. Ok, I admit it. It hurts a little to see you with somebody else. It always has. But, there's something more important going on. You just went through a major heartbreak, and I don't want to see you getting hurt again.
Natalie: You know, you may not be able to be completely honest with yourself, about your true feelings. But this isn't going away, John. You have to deal with me.
John: Well, that's why I'm here -- to settle this. And it's not about what you think you overheard or what you think I feel for you. Nothing's going to happen between us. I'm with somebody.
Natalie: You're not in love with her.
John: You don't know that.
Natalie: Come on, John. You and Evangeline are not going to go walk off into the sunset and live happily ever after. She invited you to meet her family, and now neither one of you can hardly look at each other.
John: That's none of your business.
Natalie: Yes, and my personal life is none of your business. But, that doesn't stop you from sticking your nose in it.
John: Mc Bain.
Evangeline: I have a little surprise for us tonight.
John: I'm running a little late.
Evangeline: Good. Because I'm running a little behind myself, so I told the doorman to let you in.
Natalie: Go be with her. Pretend everything's fine, that the kiss that I gave you was only one-sided.
John: I don't have to pretend.
Natalie: Right. Just like "bothered" doesn't mean "jealous." You didn't bother to tell Evangeline where you are because you forgot. You may have pulled away, John, but you don't want to. We both know that. The next time you kiss Evangeline, I'm the one you'll be thinking about. You know you want 'em!
D: I hate keeping secrets from you. I never would have started it if our future didn't depend on it.
Nora: Go on.
Daniel: I've been in contact with the governor's office for the last few months.
Nora: I know.
Daniel: And he didn't want the press to get wind of this, so he ordered our discussions secret.
Nora: What kind of discussions?
Daniel: He wants me to replace Kevin as lieutenant governor.
Nora: Well, I knew you were being considered.
Daniel: Yeah, but it's all but official, Nora. As soon as Kevin resigns, I'm going to be appointed. I've been in contact with Brooks' people day and night on phone, in person. Most of the information is privileged, and I promised him I wouldn't discuss it with anyone, including my wife.
Nora: Well, that's crazy, Daniel. You're not supposed to discuss it with your wife?
Daniel: Yeah, trust me, I know, I know. But, don't you think it's something I'd want to share with you?
Nora: So that's it? That's what all of this has been about?
Daniel: Isn't that enough?
Nora: Thank you for telling me.
Daniel: But you're still angry?
Nora: You know, you could have explained things to me without lying and without using Riley. That doesn't sit well with me.
Daniel: I know. I'm sorry. I should have told them I don't keep secrets from my wife. Can you forgive me?
Antonio: You don't remember going to R.J.'s to pick up Jamie?
Jessica: I'm just -- I'm just a little confused right now.
Antonio: I can't have confusion when it comes to Jamie. You blacked out again, didn't you? Damn it, Jess. It was one thing when you didn't show up to meet me or you missed a doctor's appointment, but Jamie was almost killed! I could lose her for what happened today. Do you have any idea how serious this is?
Jessica: Of course I do. Of course I do. I just -- I'm going to remember. I just need a little bit of time.
Antonio: There is no time. I don't know how much longer I can do this.
Jessica: What are you saying? We -- we were getting back together. I mean, we spent the night together.
Antonio: That was over three days ago. You left, and I haven't seen you until you showed up begging me to let you pick up Jamie.
Jessica: Three days ago?
Antonio: I'm going to go to the chapel and thank god for sparing my daughter's life and pray that he doesn't take her from me in another way.
Natalie: Mc Bain.
Michael: Oh -- what the hell did you do that for?
Natalie: Why the hell did you tell John how I felt about him?
Michael: Because I -- I thought that that's what you wanted.
Natalie: Not like that! My God, I made such a fool of myself. You know, I told him things. I told him that that's exactly what he wanted and that -- and then he told me that I was crazy. Do you have any idea how humiliating that is for me?
John: What is this?
Evangeline: We got back from the funeral, and we just threw ourselves into our work. I feel like we're a million miles apart, and I don't want to feel that way anymore. What is it?
John: There's something I need to tell you. You were right about Natalie.
Evangeline: How so?
John: Apparently, she still has feelings for me.
Evangeline: Yeah. Michael told me.
John: Oh, Michael told you? Well, apparently, I'm going to have to have a little discussion with my brother about minding his own business.
Evangeline: John, nobody had to tell me. It's obvious. So, now that you know, what are you going to do about it?
Michael: You know, you should forget John. Just walk away.
Natalie: And how am I supposed to do that?
Michael: I don't know. You got to figure it out, though. Unless, of course, you like making a fool out of yourself.
Natalie: Oh, thanks.
Michael: I know what it's like to love somebody that you can't be with.
Natalie: You mean Marcie? Yeah, but you know what? You guys are different, you know? You gave it a shot. It didn't work out. But, at least you tried.
Michael: Hmm. I'm not done trying.
Natalie: Then you're exactly like me.
Michael: Not exactly. I mean, Marcie isn't practically living with somebody else.
Natalie: Oh, God, save me the whole pro-Evangeline speech, ok? I know that you think that she's right for John, but I have to disagree.
Michael: What does John think? Let him go, Natalie.
Natalie: You're starting to swell up.
Michael: Well, you got one hell of a right hook, kid.
Natalie: Come on, let's go to Carlotta's. We'll get you some ice.
John: There's something else.
Evangeline: What, she made a pass at you? It was just a wild guess, and?
John: And nothing. I told her I was with you.
Evangeline: Are you?
John: I'm here, aren't I?
Evangeline: Physically. But, you haven't really been with me since we got back from the funeral. Something's different.
Evangeline: What is it?
John: Well, I guess, you know, I -- I thought I knew you, and it ends up there's a whole lot more that I hadn't expected.
Evangeline: Such as?
John: Well, you wanting to be the president of the United States -- that's kind of daunting, don't you think?
Evangeline: John, that's -- that's a childhood dream.
John: That's a relief.
Evangeline: If I sat down and tried to tell you the kinds of things I dream about now, you'd be bored in five minutes.
John: You could never be boring. For example, what is this?
Evangeline: This was something stupid, you know? Something silly, something light, to address something heavy.
John: I'm not sure I get it.
Evangeline: My uncle was fixated on our differences, and that made you uncomfortable.
John: What about you?
Evangeline: Not knowing what to call you when I introduced you? That's what made me uncomfortable. But our differences? You're quiet. I'm a handful.
John: A "handful" -- I'm not sure I'd use that adjective.
John: Definitely. But, also brilliant.
John: Martinis, dry, two olives.
Evangeline: Beer, domestic.
Evangeline: See, the point of all this is I just -- I'm not afraid of our differences. They make us stronger. I don't want to be with somebody that's just like me. I already have myself. But you -- you're undiscovered territory, and that's very exciting.
John: Yeah, it is. But just know one thing -- it flows both ways and maybe I don't know myself as well as you know yourself, and I'm not sure in the end I can give you what you need.
Evangeline: What I need is simply to be loved in return. You have to figure out what you're going to do about that, and soon.
John: Well, then I better get started.
Rex: Forget Riley.
Jen: I already have.
Rex: Look, it'll be ok, Jen. Bo's been chasing leads around the clock. Something is going to pan out.
Jen: Do you know something?
Rex: We think this Ted guy is working on the inside.
Jen: What do you mean? As a cop?
Rex: We don't know. But Bo thinks whoever it is has been one step ahead of us all along.
Daniel: Riley, is everything ok? Son, you look awful.
Riley: You're arresting the woman I love for murder. Isn't that enough?
Daniel: Son, if I could find evidence to the contrary, I would.
Riley: You look like you're looking real hard.
Nora: Riley, nobody wants Jen to be guilty.
Riley: How do we know for sure she did it?
Daniel: Son, if you have evidence to exonerate her, let me know about it. Or is it your heart?
Riley: There has to be something we overlooked. I just can't see Jen killing anybody. Yes, I know the evidence is overwhelming, and she lied to me more than once, but --
Daniel: But you don't want to believe it, son. Is that it?
Riley: When you haul her off to prison, how am I going to deal with that?
Nora: Well, it's not over yet.
Daniel: No. No, but we have to face reality.
Riley: How? How? Jen -- before Jen and I, I was sliding back into drugs, and I know I would have been dead in three years, O.D.'d in some alley. I just know it. But, she saved me. We were going to spend the rest of our lives together. We were going to work together, live together. Now I got no future. I got nothing.
Daniel: No, son, that's not true. That's not true. You're the same man who got clean, who got himself --
Riley: I couldn't have done it without her!
Daniel: I wish I could make it go away, Riley. I'm sorry.
Riley: Dad, I know it's not your fault, but --
Daniel: Son, believe me, I know how you feel. If I could walk out that door and find some way to ease the pain, believe me, I would. The only way out is the way through.
Riley: Spoken like a true 12-stepper.
Daniel: Whatever works. I mean, you're not in this alone, son. We're -- we're here for you.
Nora: You can always come here. Come stay with us. We have an extra bedroom. We have room.
Daniel: Yeah, Riley. Why don't you stay for a few days, huh?
Riley: I don't know. I don't know anything right now.
Daniel: Do me a favor. If you feel yourself losing it, just -- just give me a call, please. Anytime, anytime day or night, just call me.
Riley: I'll call you.
Daniel: What's wrong?
Nora: You did good.
Daniel: I know what you're thinking, Nora. But sooner or later I'm going to have to prosecute Jen. Look, I don't care if everyone else hates me. But you and Riley --
Nora: Riley's hurting, but he'll forgive you.
Daniel: And what about us? Are we ok?
Nora: Yeah, we're ok.
Jen: It's weird to hear you talking about the cops like you're on the same side. The old Rex wouldn't have gone anywhere near a police station unless he were in handcuffs. You've really changed.
Rex: Oh, not so much. I'm smarter. A broken heart does that to you.
Jen: I did not break your heart.
Rex: You were the best thing that ever happened to me. The only good thing. I should've never let you walk away.
Jen: Rex --
Rex: I won't make that same mistake again. Listen, there's no pressure. All I'm asking of you is to know that I'm going to keep you safe and free. And if that means being the police commissioner's best friend for a while, I can hack it.
Jen: Who knew you'd turn out to be so wonderful?
Nora: What's wrong?
Daniel: I just -- I remembered, I have a meeting with governor Brooks.
Daniel: Look, but I'll cancel, ok? It'll just take a couple of minutes.
Nora: No, no, no, no, no. It's fine. It's fine. Now that I know -- now that I know what it's about, it's fine. Go.
Daniel: You are wonderful.
Jessica: Listen, Antonio, ok? Listen, I'm sorry I can't remember anything, but I -- I know I didn't start that fire, ok? No matter what, I swear to God, I would never put Jamie in danger.
Antonio: That won't hold up in court.
Jessica: I know. I know. But, you know, R.J. isn't perfect, either, and when I testify --
Antonio: I don't -- I don't think that's such a good idea anymore. What did the doctor say? Is there any special care I should know about?
R.J.: My granddaughter's medical care is no longer your concern.
Antonio: Look, R.J., I know how you feel about me, but you also know how much I love my daughter.
R.J.: Being loved by you tends to be fatal.
Antonio: I was nowhere near that fire.
Jessica: R.J., he's right. He wasn't. If you want to blame somebody, just blame me.
R.J.: Antonio, I warned you. I told you that she was unstable. But, did you listen to me? No. It was more important to you to prove me wrong. Are you happy?
Antonio: R.J., Listen --
R.J.: You can't talk your way out of this one. You're as much to blame as she is. No.
Antonio: I just want to kiss my daughter good night.
R.J.: Officer, if Mr. Vega takes another step toward my granddaughter, I need you to arrest him.
Antonio: We almost lost her tonight. I just want to say goodbye.
Officer: Antonio, man, I'm really sorry to do this, but you got to get going.
Antonio: I'm leaving.
R.J.: Well, I suppose I should thank you.
Jessica: For what?
R.J.: Well, for making this custody hearing a cakewalk. After this, there's no way they'll give Antonio custody.
Jessica: Dr. Jamison?
Dr. Jamison: Jessica. I heard about the fire. How are you doing?
Jessica: I'm fine, I'm fine. I'm just -- I did exactly what you told me to do. I went to Antonio, I told him how I felt, I told him I loved him, I showed him. And then I lost three days of my life, and I nearly killed his daughter! Listen, ok, normal people -- they get stressed out and bad things happen, but they don't lose their minds like I am. So, please, you got to help me. I -- I might kill somebody.
Nora: Bo? It's Nora. Boy, you've really put me in an awkward position with this sudden "disappearing out of town" act. You know, Daniel is absolutely convinced that Jen killed Paul Cramer, and he's furious at you for disappearing out of town, and frankly, I don't know what to say to him. So I need to know where you are. He's really acting strangely, and --
Daniel: I had to see you. You look great. I'm sorry that we have to meet so far from home, but someone would recognize me and you. We have to be careful.
Natalie: I am really sorry that I hit you.
Michael: Well, I probably deserved it. You know, I know better than to go messing around in other people's love lives, especially when mine is such a train wreck.
Natalie: You know, you were right about one thing. John gets to be with Evangeline, and I get you.
Michael: Yeah, well, I'm just as thrilled as you are, ok?
Evangeline: John, I need you!
John: Hold on, I'm coming.
Evangeline: John, I need you!
John: Where are you?
Where are you?
John: It's ok. I'm here. I got here. You're safe. I love you. I love you.
>> On the next "One Life to Live" --
Paul: Did you have a good time tonight? I bet it was a real blast, huh?
Michael: What's going on?
Marcie: I don't know. I was actually about to ask you the same question.
John: I wish I could tell you what I was dreaming about.
Evangeline: I wish you could say you were dreaming about me.
Blair: Did something happen in that cabin? Something that you're not telling me?
