Renee: Oh, Adriana. What a pleasant surprise. What can I do for you, darling?
Adriana: I'm supposed to meet Kelly there, but I'm running a little late.
Renee: Oh. She's here right now. I'll let her know. How have you been?
Adriana: I'm fine. Is there any word from Asa?
Renee: No. No, nothing yet. I can't tell you how upset this is making me.
Todd: Join the club. Damn it!
Blair: Todd? Don't wake the kids. What's going on? Is something wrong?
Renee: Kelly, darling, Adriana just called, and she said she's going to be a little late.
Kelly: Oh. That's all right. It seems like I'm running late to everything these days.
Renee: Join the club. Excuse me, I'm -- I'm sorry. I have to take care of something.
Kelly: All right.
Renee: Carl, Mr. Gannon won't be needing that menu. He's leaving. This table is reserved.
R.J.: Well, what is this? Part of the new old policy against serving men of color? And brother Carl didn't get the memo.
Renee: I do not enjoy entertaining liars and crooks in my restaurant.
R.J.: Wow. But, that rules out your whole family and half your clientele. No, I'm sorry, Ms. Divine. I do have a reservation.
Renee: It's all right, Carl. I can take care of this. I don't remember booking a table for Lindsay.
R.J.: Oh. Well, you see, Lindsay is not my date this evening. No, she is.
John: You see, Mike, sometimes a burger is just a burger.
Michael: Yeah. Well, that is bait on the hook. Ok, buddy? And Natalie's got her hands on the pole.
John: We're still talking talking about fishing, right? She knows where we stand.
Michael: John, she's crazy about you. She told me herself and from that poker face, I can see that this ain't news to you.
John: You want news? What's news is that she's talking to you in the first place. What have you been saying to her?
Michael: Right. Turn it into an interrogation. Put it back on me.
John: Look, I don't want you getting mixed up in this and screwing things up.
Michael: Yeah, because you're screwing them up just fine yourself. John, Natalie thinks that she's got a chance with you. And you've been giving her plenty of reasons to feel that way.
Natalie: Ron, I feel so bad for canceling on you like this at the last minute. Can I take a rain check? Great. All right, we'll touch base this weekend. Bye-bye.
Antonio: Natalie, have you seen Jessica? She was -- she was supposed to pick up Jamie, but I haven't heard from her.
Natalie: No, I haven't seen her for a while.
Antonio: Huh. We were supposed to meet for dinner at the diner, but she never showed.
Natalie: Did you check her cell?
Antonio: No, she's not answering.
Jamie: Jessica? Jessica?
Kevin: With all the corporate scandals in the news lately, Asa picked the absolute worst time to hightail it out of town.
Duke: Yeah, sending B.E. stock through the floor in the process.
Kevin: You've got a good head for this, you know?
Duke: Well, the four years of business classes you paid for weren't a total loss.
Kevin: Well, hopefully the two of us can bring B.E. back into the black.
Duke: Well, you know -- I mean, you fix the stock, and we're liquid again. You know, the key is fixing that stock. What?
Kevin: Oh, nothing . I just think we make a good team, that's all.
Duke: Yeah, who would have thought, huh?
Kevin: Well, most of that's on me. You've made things easier.
Duke: No, dad --
Kevin: No, you have. You have. So I've noticed that you and Adriana have spent a lot of time together lately. I gather things are going well?
Duke: You could say that.
Kevin: Uh-oh. Hmm. I know that look.
Duke: What look?
Kevin: You know what look I'm talking about.
Duke: Knock it off.
Kevin: That look right there, yeah.
Duke: Come on. Does it show that much?
Duke: Well --
Kevin: So have you done it?
Duke: Uh -- done what, dad?
Kevin: Dropped the l bomb. You know? It opens up a whole new world once you tell a woman you love her.
Duke: For a moment there, I thought we were going to have a sex talk.
Kevin: A sex -- no, I think I missed the window of opportunity on that one.
Kevin: I'll leave all the matters of romance to you.
Duke: Well, what about you? I mean, come on, you still got a shot at finding someone.
Kevin: Duke, I'm not even looking at this point.
Duke: You might not have to look that far. You play your cards right with Kelly, and the two of you could be back in the game in no time.
Adriana: I don't get why mom hates the Buchanans so much. I mean, what did they ever do to her?
Kelly: What did they actually do or what is it that she thinks they did?
Adriana: I don't know what she'd hate more, the idea of me and Duke being together or you and Kevin.
Kelly: Oh, I think I'd win that one. Kevin and I have a lot of history together that she can throw in my face.
Adriana: You and Kevin seem very friendly lately.
Kelly: Well, that's because we're friends.
Adriana: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm.
Kelly: What? We're friends who used to be married. There's nothing wrong with that, right?
Adriana: Oh, come on. Don't you think you ever made a mistake? That you never should have divorced Kevin in the first place?
John: You know, I love these little visits we have. I'm not leading Natalie on, end of discussion.
Michael: Oh. What should I do, John? Should I go to my room now?
John: I don't care where you go, Mike. Why would Natalie be talking to you, anyway?
Michael: Ok, look, that's not the point, John.
John: It is the point. What have you been saying to her?
Michael: I told her that you and Evangeline are together and that she'd be crazy to get in the middle of that.
John: Oh, that was just brilliant. You challenge her? You challenge Natalie? Why didn't you just give her an invitation?
Michael: I didn't challenge Natalie, ok? I covered your butt. And she told me that you've been staring at her and finding reasons to be around her. Now, it's not my fault that she overhears the stupid things that come out of your mouth.
John: What exactly did she overhear?
Michael: Look, you came back from your trip with Evangeline all bummed out about the way that it went down. Now, if Natalie's bringing you loaded burgers -- I mean, you're the detective, man. Put it together. Ok. Change the subject. How was your trip with Evangeline?
John: That's your idea of changing the subject?
Michael: Hmm. Not great, huh? The trip?
John: You know, I met the family.
Michael: Yeah. I've been there.
John: I don't know, Mike, you know. I always knew that Evangeline had it all together, but, you know, the family, man -- they have big dreams for her, expectations, and I don't exactly fit the profile.
Michael: What are you saying, John? You saying you're going to dump Evangeline?
Antonio: Still not answering.
Natalie: Well, do you think that R.J. could have given her a hard time when she went to pick up Jamie?
Antonio: No. He wasn't even there. You think maybe she's with your mom?
Natalie: No, no, I doubt that. I mean, mom's been busy with "The Banner," and I can't see Jessica taking Jamie there.
Antonio: I better head over to R.J.'s.
Natalie: Well, wait, I'll go with you.
Antonio: No, that won't be necessary. Actually, why don't you stay here in case she shows up, and if she does, have her call me?
Tess: What the --
Tess: Oh, I must have dropped my cigarette.
Tess: Look, kid, are you ok? It's hot. Um --
Tess: Uh -- ok. Listen, just lie down on the floor or something, ok? Can you hear me? I'm going to call for help, ok? Somebody's got to call the cops by now.
Jessica's voice: You can't leave Jamie. You have to save her.
Tess: No, no. Oh, God, leave me alone!
Jessica: What happened? Where am I? This is R.J.'s.
Jessica: Jamie! Jamie, is that you? I'm coming, sweetie. Don't cry, baby. I'm coming.
Blair: So, what's with all of these audio files, Todd?
Todd: I'm tapping Renee's phone.
Blair: What for?
Todd: For when Asa calls. I'm going to find him, and I'm going to take him out.
Blair: And then what?
Todd: I wish I had that kind of access to Margaret.
Blair: Why are you wasting so much time on Margaret and Asa? I don't even want to think about them, Todd.
Todd: Don't think about them. I'm going to take them out.
Blair: Look, I just want to get on with our lives, all right?
Todd: Have we been over this or not? This has to happen.
Todd: What is it?
Blair: Well, I'm tired of feeling like this, that's what it is! I'm tired of feeling paranoid and afraid all the time!
Todd: Don't you want payback? Think about that. That's what gets me to sleep at night.
Blair: You know, when my mom was sick, I was so paranoid I thought that Margaret poisoned her.
Todd: Yeah, I know. That's not too crazy an idea. I mean, I would have went there. But Margaret is not going to get to us, right? We just can't let our guard down ever again.
Doctor: So, are you ready to be a mother?
John: What, are you crazy? Nobody's dumping nobody. I just don't want to be the guy that's holding her back.
Michael: Good. So what's the problem?
John: I'm holding her back.
Michael: How? John, something happen with her family?
John: It's part of it.
John: Look, I see her mom's place, right, and she's got all these trophies and awards and certificates. They're all over the place.
Michael: John, you always knew she was smart.
John: It's more than that, Mike.
Michael: Ok. All right. So she didn't grow up the way we did.
John: You had to have been there. You know, everybody I met -- the ex-boyfriends, the crazy cousins -- they all have these big expectations for her. It's what's been driving her all these years.
Michael: Yeah. I know where you're going with this, John. You and me -- we both have this second-class-citizen thing going on, you know? I feel it all the time when I'm around the other doctors, all the time, John. So what? So she does more for your resume than you do for hers. Big deal.
John: So I can't be bugged by that?
Michael: What are you saying? You think someone like Natalie would be a better fit?
John: No, I didn't say that. But it might explain why --
Michael: Why what?
John: Why she's been on my mind.
Michael: Care for a little cheap psychology?
John: Is there any other kind?
Michael: You're trying to be noble by trashing what you have with Evangeline because you think that's what's best for her. Or maybe Natalie's just hot. Either way, John, you have to deal with this thing with Natalie before you screw up everything.
John: I'll talk to her. Will that satisfy you, Dr. Freud? Is there anything else I need to know about this little chat you had with her?
Michael: Nope. I didn't say anything else. And from here on out, I am out of it.
John: Good. Keep it that way.
Michael: I'm just looking out for you, bro. That's all I care about.
John: You can't even say that with a straight face.
Michael: It's the hospital. You mind if I use your phone?
John: Go right ahead. Look, don't touch anything else on my desk, nothing.
Michael: Not even your burger?
John: Not my burger.
Michael: Oh, ok. Well, you know, for what it's worth, my vote's with Evangeline.
John: That's you staying out of it?
Michael: When are you going to learn to keep your big mouth shut, stupid?
Renee: Well, I certainly never expected to see you here again with this one.
Evangeline: Yeah. Purely business.
R.J.: Well, that's our cover story, anyway.
Renee: Good luck.
R.J.: Well, that is why you called this little meet, right, so you could beg me to take you back?
Evangeline: Oh, actually not. I'm here offering you a deal.
R.J.: Ah, well, I'm all ears.
Evangeline: Give up this custody fight for Jamie.
R.J.: Well, you know, I really thought I would have a cup of coffee before the conversation turned inane.
Evangeline: Yeah, I thought I'd have a cup of coffee before you started insulting me.
R.J.: Yeah, well, you and your client have nothing, absolutely nothing, that I want.
Evangeline: You see, now, that surprises me, because I always thought Jamie's love and respect meant something to you.
Jamie: I'm scared.
Jessica: I know. I know, sweetie. I know. Here, I'm just going to cover you up, ok?
Jessica: There's no way out. Ok, ok. Ok, ok, ok.
Antonio: Jessica? Jessica?
Blair: You think it's always going to be like this?
Todd: I don't know. I hope not.
Blair: You think we're always going to be looking over our shoulders, just waiting for the world to crash down on us again, huh?
Todd: I told you, I'm going to bring down Margaret and Asa --
Blair: Well, it's not going to make that go away . The only thing that's going to make it go away is if it didn't happen, but we know that it did. I know it --
Todd: Honey --
Blair: And you know it, Todd. Even if you go back, you can't change it. Believe me, I try.
Todd: How do you mean?
Blair: When things get bad, I just try to remember what it was like six months ago, and -- when we were happy before Margaret, before Asa, before all of it, back when we were really, really happy. You know, we were invincible, Todd. We fought our way back, and I think that we should really proud of ourselves for that. We fought our way back to our love and our life . We were happy.
Todd: Yeah, I know we were. We're going to be happy again.
Blair: You think we will?
Blair: I want to believe it. I want to believe that we can be a family again, and happy.
Todd: I love you.
Blair: I love you.
Todd: That's a good start.
Blair: It's the best.
Doctor: Ok. Let's get you ready for your sonogram.
Margaret: I can't wait.
Adriana: Don't dodge the question. What is going on with you and Kevin?
Kelly: Well, we don't want to kill each other anymore. That's something, right?
Adriana: Hmm. You think it's possible you two could work things out?
Kelly: Well, there's a lot of water under that bridge. We did a lot of damage to each other last year.
Adriana: But you're not saying it's impossible?
Kelly: Ahem. I'm saying that we had a long relationship --
Kelly: And we had some good times and bad times, and we used to feel about each other the same way that you feel about duke.
Adriana: So what's the holdup?
Kelly: We hurt each other a lot. You know what? I'm bringing you down. I don't want to talk about this. Let's change the subject.
Adriana: Do you still love Kevin?
Kelly: Ok -- sometimes love isn't enough. And I know that's not what you want to hear, so I'm going to shut up now, ok?
Adriana: Which is your way of not answering my question, hmm.
Kelly: I didn't realize that dinner was going to be the third degree. Look, I'm happy for you and Duke. Kevin and I had our chance. I just don't think he thinks of me in that way anymore.
Kevin: Did you just pay for dinner?
Duke: Yeah, you can do those kind of things when you have a job.
Kevin: I could get used to this.
Duke: Yeah, yeah, well, don't. You're paying for dessert.
Kevin: Oh, no.
Kevin: We're putting that on Asa's tab.
Duke: Now, there's an idea.
Natalie: I don't remember ordering take-out.
John: Neither did I, but some showed up at my office anyway.
Natalie: Hmm. Go figure.
John: Hmm. You going to invite me in?
Natalie: Come in.
John: You alone?
Natalie: Yes. Would you like a glass of wine?
John: Love to, but I'm on duty.
Natalie: Hmm. Am I under arrest? What did I do this time?
John: I'll let you off with a warning.
Natalie: So, where were you when I came by and brought you your lunch? I was hoping to see you.
John: I went by Evangeline's office.
Natalie: Oh. Everything ok with the two of you?
John: We're fine. I just want to make sure you understand that.
Jessica: Antonio, I have Jamie!
Antonio: Hold on, Jess! I'm coming!
Antonio: Come on, Jess. We need to get out of here.
Blair: Hmm. Why don't you come to bed? We've got the top-of-the-line security set, guards all over the place. Nobody's going to get in.
Todd: Just making sure we got all the angles covered.
Blair: Oh, I think we're covered. We're safe. The kids are safe. Although, I think we might have to start worrying about Starr's crush on a bodyguard.
Todd: I'll fire him.
Blair: Why? Because he looks like tom cruise?
Todd: Oh, now, who has the crush?
Blair: Hmm. See, I think I might I need a little personal protection? Who needs tom cruise when I got you? I've missed this, Todd. I've missed you loving me. I've missed your arms around me.
Todd: Yeah, that's what kept me going, imagining we'd be together again like this.
Blair: It's all I need. It's all I'll ever need.
Doctor: I'm very happy to tell you your baby is perfectly healthy and, since you wanted to know, it's a boy.
Margaret's voice: Oh, my God. We are going to have a son! He looks just like his father.
Kelly: So, you liked Duke in that tux, huh?
Adriana: Oh, my God. He looked like one of those models in the magazines, you know?
Kelly: Well, speak of that handsome devil.
Kevin: Handsome devil, you.
Duke: How are you?
Adriana: All right, and you? Join us.
Kevin: Oh, no, no. We don't want to break up your little party.
Adriana: Oh, Kelly won't mind, right?
Kelly: It's up to you.
Kevin: Well, I'll tell you what -- you add a couple more spoons and maybe we could be convinced.
Kelly: Oh, right. That was hard. So, have you heard from Asa?
Kevin: No, no, I haven't. It's a long silence, even for him. Do you mind?
Duke: You'd think watching B.E. go down the tubes like it is would bring him out of hiding. Thank you.
Kelly: Is it really that bad?
Kevin: Hmm. It's getting there.
Adriana: I told Duke I'd do anything I can to help.
Kevin: I -- I appreciate it, thanks.
Kelly: Well, I mean, count me in, too. I know how much Buchanan enterprises means to you.
Duke: You know, actually, that's not a bad idea.
Duke: Well, you helping out. I mean, public perception's half our battle right now. I mean, if you can do for B.E. what you've done for some of your charities, the stock will bounce back in no time, dad.
Adriana: Duke's right. I mean, that's a great idea.
Kelly: Uh -- I don't know. I've never thought of B.E. as a charity case.
Kevin: Well, we're not yet.
Duke: And we'd be lucky to have you, Kelly.
Kelly: I'm not so sure your dad would feel the same way.
Kevin: Well, I -- you know, I know you, you know, raised a lot of cash in Texas.
Kelly: Oh, that was cattlemen and local businesses, you know, the good-old-boy politics.
Kevin: Well, what makes you think this is that much different? I mean, half the people we work with are Asa's cronies.
Kelly: Are you serious?
Kevin: I think I am. Yeah.
Kelly: Well, you know, I just asked Viki for a job at "The Banner." I --
Duke: Kelly, grandma will understand.
Adriana: I think you should do it.
Kevin: Might be fun.
Kelly: Yeah, it might be.
R.J.: I already have Jamie's respect and love. And you know how I got it? I earned it by always being here for her -- something your client has repeatedly chosen not to do.
Evangeline: Antonio is here for Jamie. That's why he's fighting for her.
R.J.: Well, then I guess I'll see you both in court.
Evangeline: Fine. Then be prepared to face every illegal act you ever committed. Every body you ever prayed would stay buried, I'm going to dig them up and I'm going to parade them around the courtroom and bring them back into public record for Jamie to see one day.
R.J.: Mine and all of your client's? I'll take my chances.
Evangeline: R.J., despite all this bad blood between us, I never questioned your commitment to Jamie until now. This is it. This is your last wake-up call, and you should take it, because you know the courts notoriously side with the biological parent.
R.J.: Is that all you've got? Then we're done here.
Evangeline: Drop this claim, and I will see to it that you get liberal visitation. And Jamie never has to know about your past. She can go on believing that her grandfather is this fine, upstanding citizen.
R.J.: Threats and empty promises. Look, my granddaughter will know the truth -- the whole truth. Van, this really is not your best work. What's wrong? Oh. Oh, no. I had heard that your cop's jungle fever had broken.
Evangeline: And yet yours rages on. You heard the deal. Push this to court and all bets are off.
Renee: Hey, darling. You ok?
Evangeline: Yeah. R.J. Just throwing out idle threats, you know? But, I rattled his cage.
Evangeline: Never felt better.
Antonio: Jess, I'll be right back.
Woman: What's going on?
Antonio: Take her downstairs. Wait for the fire department. I'll be right down.
Woman: Ok. Come on, honey. Your father's right behind us.
Natalie: So you and Evangeline are good. I can roll with that.
John: You sure?
Natalie: You tell me.
John: We need to stop dancing around and clear the air.
Natalie: So you want complete honesty, huh? You sure you can handle that?
John: I think it's time.
Natalie: Ok. On a scale of one to 10, how much does it irritate you that I'm dating Ron Walsh?
John: It doesn't.
Natalie: You don't care?
John: Oh, I care. I want you to be happy. He seems like a standup guy.
Natalie: Mm-hmm. So the thought of Ron getting closer to me, touching me, doesn't bother you at all?
John: You should see where it goes with him.
Natalie: Talk about honesty. God, you're such a liar.
Michael: Ok. I'm on my way.
Evangeline: Michael, what a surprise. Where's John?
Michael: He's -- he's out.
Evangeline: Oh, he's on a case?
Michael: I -- I have to go. The hospital just called me, and I really have to -- go. You really need to talk to John.
Evangeline: I do? About what?
Michael: Listen, this is really none of my business, but you're great for my brother. I mean, like, completely-turn-his-life-around great.
Evangeline: Thanks. What is going on, Michael?
Michael: Just talk to john, ok? I really can't say anything else.
Evangeline: What are you talking about?
Michael: I'm sorry. Talk to him.
John: Well, I'm glad you think this is funny. I'm telling you the truth. You're my friend, and I want you to be happy.
Natalie: Well, that's good, John. I want you to be happy, too -- with me.
John: Natalie --
Natalie: Is that enough truth for you?
Doctor: What have we got?
Paramedic: Two fire victims, smoke inhalation.
Second paramedic: Vitals are stable. No wheezing or stridor.
Doctor: All right, take the little girl into number three, the woman in six. Where's Mc Bain?
Nurse: He's on his way in. I need to take her in for treatment. We'll take good care of her.
Antonio: Ok. All right. Daddy will be right in, ok? Damn it.
Antonio: R.J., It's Antonio.
R.J.: Enjoying your time with Jamie?
Antonio: We're at the hospital, R.J.
R.J.: What -- hos-- what happened?
Antonio: She's fine, she's fine. She's being treated for smoke inhalation. Right. How is she?
Doctor: Well, she inhaled a lot of smoke. We've got her on 100% oxygen right now, and we'll monitor her blood gas levels. We'll know more after the chest x-ray, but they got her here just in time. How'd the fire get started?
Antonio: I have no idea. Jessica and my daughter were the only ones there.
Kelly: Kevin, be honest. Do you really want me to come work at Buchanan Enterprises?
Kevin: I think it's the best idea I've heard in a long time. Actually, ever. I'm serious. What, you're creative, you're smart. You can certainly handle Asa and the board. I mean, how many times have you hit him up for donations? I'm sure that they would welcome a familiar face.
Duke: Kelly, the stock's in the toilet. I mean, if anybody needs a fresh P.R. campaign, it's us.
Kelly: Are you sure?
Kevin: Yes! Come work with me! What do you want?
Kelly: I'd have to think about it. I told Viki that --
Kevin: Oh, come on. My mom can hire somebody else to work at "The Banner." I mean, you know, think about it. Take as much time as you need, just as long as you say yes. Come on, we'd make a hell of a team.
Todd: Oh --
Todd: I thought I heard the kids.
Blair: No, the kids are fine.
Todd: I -- I can't do this to you.
Blair: To me?
Todd: Well, no, it's too soon. I mean, I'm not going to force myself on you like that. You're not ready.
Blair: Todd, sweetie, I'm ready. I'm -- I'm -- I'm ready. You know, it's ok. Why don't -- come on, let's just cuddle, ok?
Todd: You bet.
Michael: Where am I needed?
Nurse: Little girl in three. Smoke inhalation.
Michael: I'm on it.
Doctor: Hey. Welcome back. Can you tell me your name and the year?
Jessica: It's Jessica -- Jessica Buchanan. It's 2005. Where -- where am I?
Doctor: The Llanview hospital. You've got a mild concussion. Can you move your feet? Good.
Antonio: Doctor, you mind if I talk to her a minute?
Doctor: Yeah. Don't make it long.
Jessica: Antonio, Jamie -- where is she? She was in the fire! Did you get her out?
Antonio: Jess, she's fine. We got her out in time.
R.J.: Jamie -- my granddaughter is here! Where is she?
Nurse: The doctor's examining her. You can see her momentarily.
Antonio: I need to know -- I need to know what happen in R.J.'s apartment. How did the fire get started?
John: This was not such a hot idea.
Natalie: What? Coming over here or asking for complete honesty? Maybe you know exactly what you want.
John: Natalie --
Natalie: Maybe where you want to be is right here with me.
John: Definitely not a good idea.
Natalie: Oh, like hell it's not.
>> On the next "one life to live" --
Nora: You tell me the truth right now, or this marriage is over.
Antonio: You and Jamie were the only two in that apartment before the fire started.
Jessica: So you think that I started it?
Lisa: If a man cannot tell you that he loves you, there is a problem.
Natalie: The cards are out on the table -- it's your move. ,
