One Life to Live Transcript Tuesday 8/3/04
Proofread by Brian
David: Why aren't you dressed? Tico Santi’s expecting us at his fancy dinner party, and if that guy thinks I'm going to be impressed by an invitation sent on 100% cotton stock -- he's right.
Dorian: David, I don't think I can go. I don't want to leave Kelly. Think about what she went through yesterday -- having that baby grabbed out of her arms like that. Kevin standing there sneering at her like he just snatched some prize piece of real estate.
David: Hey, hey, hey. That's -- that's just temporary. You know that. Evangeline's on it. Kelly and Ace are going to be reunited before you know it.
Dorian: How can you be sure of that? The Buchanans own this town!
David: Shh. Listen to me. Kelly has been asleep all day long. Her doctor gave her a whopper of a sedative. She's going to be asleep all through the night. There's nothing more you can do.
Dorian: I know and that's what really upsets me.
David: Look, one upset female Cramer in the house at one time, please.
Dorian: Oh, David, come on, this is serious.
David: You really need to lighten up. Ok? And I know how much you want to see what Augustico has done with Lion's Heart.
Dorian: That's true.
David: Mm-hmm. That's my girl. Now, vamonos. You and I got to find out what this ex-stepson of yours is all about.
Sonia: I can't believe you expect him to serve a whole dinner without a half dozen under butlers. Everything is beautiful, sweetie. Your family will be duly impressed.
Tico: You know how important tonight is, and not just for me. Is everything right?
Sonia: Now it is.
Antonio: Oh. Do we really have to go to this thing tonight? I'd much rather be with you.
Jessica: Well, we're going to this thing, I thought, to find out why Tico and Sonia came to Llanview.
Antonio: Well, we are -- just not tonight.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________Viki: You know, Clint, I have absolutely no idea what Paul’s intentions are toward Natalie. I mean, I think he's a complete opportunist, you know, but she won't hear anything of the sort. I don't know if he loves her or not. I certainly hope she doesn't love him. Well, I mean, yes, he says he loves her. What does that mean to somebody like Paul? It's like some quack sawbone saying he's a brain surgeon. Oh, no. I'm going to make that very, very clear to him tonight. No, he knows that I've got my eye on him. Ok. Well, you, too. Oh, and thank you for letting me practice on you. Ok, good night, Clint. Bye. Paul Cramer, we are going to have dinner together whether you like it or not.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________Blair: So, I just don't get it. Why hasn't -- why hasn't Kevin told Asa that you aren't that baby's father?
Todd: I don't know. Asa's a few bales short of a hayride right now.
Blair: Well, I hope that you're right because Asa has to be stark-raving mad to sell us his mansion.
Todd: Oh, don't worry. If he's not stark-raving mad now, he will be by the time we get through with him.

Adriana: I just --
Dorian: It's River, isn't it? I know it's River. Look -- a broken heart sometimes takes a long time to heal, but given enough time, I promise you everything's going to be all right. I know something, though -- nothing is going to change if a beautiful young woman like you stays home crying her eyes out not when you have been invited to this fabulous dinner party at Tico’s house. Come on, honey. Please. Go upstairs; get into that beautiful dress we got you. Come to the party.
David: So, we're going now?
Dorian: Yes. I think it will do Adriana good.
David: She seems to have taken to Tico awfully quickly.
Dorian: Well, of course. I mean, after all, she does need to have a confident.
David: I've been her confident.
Dorian: One closer to her own age. And after all, he's her half brother, and he does seem very protective of her.
David: I'll be your confident.
Dorian: Oh, David.
Sonia: Everybody loves a fortuneteller.
Tico: True. But I don't want tonight to turn into a sideshow.
Sonia: Why don't you just put me in a booth like entertainment?
Tico: You know, I still don't get you. You're intelligent, worldly, educated, and yet you can't do anything without consulting the cards.
Sonia: How many times do I have to tell you -- this just helps me think; gets me in touch with my intuition, my subconscious. And by the way, if you were wondering, tonight will be a brilliant success.
Tico: I know it will be.
Sonia: What's this night about for you anyway, Tico? What do you want from these people?
Tico: They're threatened by me. I'm a complete stranger to them. You know, the apple does not fall far from the tree.
Sonia: No, they knew you weren't part of your father's life.
Tico: Still, the Vega family is very close and closed off to strangers, protective. They don't know what to make of me yet. I want them to leave here tonight thinking I'm no threat. What about you?
Sonia: This is your night, honey.
Tico: What do your cards say?
Sonia: Well, tonight they foretell of good fortune, for you or for me. Maybe we'll both win.
Natalie: There is nothing else to say.
Jessica: Honest to God! It's like she's like the same person that she was when she first got to Llanview. Why are we all of a sudden the enemy?
Antonio: You know, honey, maybe she just needs a little space.
Jessica: She said that she feels like the extra sister, an outsider. And, you know, Antonio, if I don't go and talk to her, she's going to think that she's right.
Antonio: Well, it seems to me like she wants no part of us right now.
Jessica: I don't understand. I don't know -- maybe she's scared. She just won't let me get close, you know, and it's almost like she doesn't want to be a part of this family.
Antonio: I wish that were the case with Tico.
Jessica: Yeah, well, Sonia’s only interested in one Vega.
Antonio: Yeah, well, I'm not interested in her.
Jessica: Yeah, well, she's really hard to ignore.
Antonio: You know -- you know, I was at The Hookup last night and she -- she read my tarot cards.
Jessica: Well, let me guess -- your future holds a Latina brunette with a secret.
Antonio: Oh, she was a little more subtler than that.
Jessica: Well, what did she say your future held?
Tico: Tia Carlotta, how are you?
Carlotta: Hi, Tico.
Tico: Welcome to my home.
Adriana: It's beautiful!
Dorian: Yes, it certainly is!
Tico: Hello, Dorian.
Tico: I'm so glad you could make it.
David: Horses, wild or otherwise, couldn't have kept us away.
Dorian: David's right. We certainly wouldn't have missed it, not for the world.
Tico: Oh, thank you very much.
Tico: Oh, this was a fantastic year.
David: I know.
Tico: And thank you all for the beautiful housewarming gifts that arrived this morning.
Sonia: Two of them will be part of the centerpiece at tonight's table.
Tico: Indeed, they will. Everyone, I would like you to meet my foster sister, Sonia Toledo.
David: She must be from Ohio.
Dorian: Uh -- it is certainly a pleasure to make your acquaintance, Sonia.
Carlotta: Mucho gusto a conocerle.
Tico: Please, everyone, come in.
Dorian: Oh, my! This is extraordinary!
David: Yeah, and mucho expensivo.
Carlotta: Oh, it's exquisite.
Tico: It came from my family's home in Madrid -- well, almost everything here did. We wanted to make it feel like home.
Dorian: You've certainly achieved that effect. David, try to be civilized.
David: You can't try to be civilized. You either are or you aren't, and around this guy --
David: I'm doing my best.
Sonia: Welcome. I'm so glad you could make it.
Jessica: Thank you. We're here, alive and well.
Antonio: I told Jessica about how you read my tarot cards.
Jessica: Most people probably would've stayed home if a fortuneteller had've predicted, I don't know, an imminent death.
Sonia: Yeah, those were my mother's cards. You know, she said the death card doesn't necessarily mean death. It could just mean the ending of something significant, making way for something new, maybe something better.
Tico: Jessica, Antonio. Welcome.
Jessica: Thank you. My, you guys have been busy. It looks wonderful in here.
Tico: Thank you.
Sonia: Thank you.
Tico: Please, everyone, have a seat. There is a custom where Sonia and I grew up -- the host presents gifts to his guests. They take a piece of his home away with them so that they always feel a part of it.
David: Looks like we might be getting a gift bag.
Tico: Now, because of who he was, regrettably, I missed so many years with my father's side of the family. I never knew I had an aunt, cousins, a beautiful half sister, even a stepmother. I can't get those years back, but what I can do is give you all a memento from the years we were apart. Adriana, this belonged to my grandmother.
Tico: I hope you won't hide behind it.
Adriana: Thank you.
Tico: Tia, this damascene plate is from our country home in Malaga.
Tico: The image of the bird is meant to bring peace to its owner.
David: Those things are painted with 24-karat gold.
Carlotta: Es mucho. This is too much.
David: I'll take it.
Tico: These pearls belonged to my mother. They've been waiting many years for another beautiful woman to wear them. I'm glad they've found their rightful owner.
Dorian: I'm honored. I'll try and do them justice.
Tico: I know you will. My mother wore this on her wedding day. Now, I don't want to be presumptuous, but perhaps you would like to wear it when you get married?
Viki: Honey, Natalie, you're taking this all wrong.
Natalie: Of course I am -- because I'm always wrong and you're always right.
Viki: Natalie, that's ridiculous.
Natalie: You know what? I am so sick and tired of being told what to think, how to think, how to act. I'm sorry, but Kevin -- he's my brother. You know what? Forget it. I'm out of here.
Viki: And then I also want you to have this. Not now.
Natalie: What is it?
Viki: It's a manuscript that I wrote. It's thoughts and fancies that I put down, everything before the time that we were reunited, you know.
Natalie: Now why would you give this to me and not --
Viki: I guess I want you to know who I am and who I was, you know, how I became whatever I have become.
Natalie: I'd like that.
Tico: And the finest Spanish cigars. Please.
David: Will you be doing this every time we come over?
Dorian: He doesn't get out much.
David: Well, that very well may change.
[David and Dorian chuckle]
Antonio: Very extravagant. But to get your family to accept you, it's going to take a lot more than a bunch of expensive gifts.
Carlotta: Antonio --
Tico: No, no, no, tia. I know exactly what he means, and I agree with him. I promise you these gifts come from the heart. But there is something I want from you, something very important.
[Classical music plays]
Tico: As you may or may not know, I manage my family's funds. Naturally, I have international connections. Now, you're the only people I know in Llanview. So if you could help me by introducing me to certain people like Asa Buchanan, his grandson Kevin, for instance --
Dorian: Do we have to?
Tico: I'm looking for ways to invest some of my family's money locally. But let's not turn tonight into a business meeting. Please, enjoy.
Carlotta: This lace is hand-knotted. It's exquisite. I don't think I've ever seen anything like it.
Jessica: I don't want to mess it up.
Sonia: So any news yet on the break-in at The Hookup?
Adriana: Thank you so much for the fan. Maybe someday you can tell me about your grandmother. I'd love to know about your side of the family.
Tico: Well, she had bright, clear, beautiful eyes -- you know, a bit like yours. And like you, she also had grace, nobility, and so much to offer. Adriana, you mustn't waste yourself on someone who is unworthy.
Dorian: I think Tico is making Adriana feel much better.
David: If I'd known all it was going to take to win you over was a pair of pearl earrings, I'd have gone to the gift shop at Sea World.
Dorian: I just want my girls to be happy.
David: Yeah, me, too. Let's sit down.
Dorian: Don't you see? I want the finest things for Adriana, and Augustico with his European sophistication and panache -- he just might do her a lot of good.
David: You know, he might be able to do a little something for me, too.
Tico: You look beautiful tonight.
Jessica: Thank you. Um -- and thank you for the mantilla. You already gave me your mom's hairbrush and mirror, and I'm so sorry, again, that I broke it.
Tico: Don't be.
Jessica: Seven years' bad luck.
Tico: We make our own luck. You know, besides, if you hadn't broken it, I would have never found that page of my mother's diary or that photograph of my brother and me. I hope I have begun to take the curse off this house for you.
Jessica: What happened wasn't because of this house. It was because of the person living in it.
Tico: Your biological father.
Jessica: Yes. But I'm not afraid of the people living in here now. There's nothing to be afraid of here anymore.
Viki: Todd. Sit down.
Todd: You sure you're not contagious? I saw you having dinner with Paul Cramer. I haven't had my booster shot lately.
Todd: Hmm. Didn't anyone tell you that guy's a slimeball?
Viki: Numerous people, as a matter of fact. But that slimeball lives with my daughter Natalie, so I thought I'd better have a look and see what he's up to.
Todd: I don't trust him.
Viki: No, I don't trust him, either. But Natalie has to make her own mistakes, and I just wish she weren't so reckless.
Todd: That's that Lord blood; poor impulse control.
Viki: Well, if she falls, I'll be there to catch her.
Todd: Just like you were for me.
Viki: Well, it worked, didn't it? I mean, look what's happened. You have become, well, I don't know, who I thought you could be. At least, I hope so. You don't seem to be looking for enemies around every corner anymore. You don't seem to want to have a plan just to get something done.
Todd: Having a plan isn't such a bad thing.
Viki: No, actually, it isn’t. That's why you are planning to do everything you can to end this feud with Kevin, aren't you?
Asa: What are you doing here?
Blair: Oh, I'm sorry, Asa. I was looking for Kevin. We had some last-minute details to work out with "Craze."
Asa: Kevin is not here.
Asa: So get out of here! Oh, before you go, take Manning’s kid with you. He's been bawling all night like a screaming banshee monkey.
Blair: I don't want anything to do with that kid. What Kelly and Todd did makes me sick.
Asa: I thought that you and Manning were back together.
Blair: That's what I want him to think. If he knew how I really felt, he would take my children away from me again. And I would kill him before I let him do that. But I can tell you this much -- I'm certainly not going to raise his bastard son.
Asa: I saw you throw a drink in his face.
Blair: Huh. You did?
Blair: Well, I wish that it had been acid. But Todd is powerful, he's rich, and it's going to take someone richer and more powerful than me to bring him down, and someone that hates him just as much -- someone like you, Asa.
Asa: Why would I ever want to help the likes of you?
Blair: Well, you wouldn’t. But what about Kevin? Todd slept with his wife; took his child away. They're enemies. You know what, think about all the bad things Todd has done to you over the years, Asa.
Asa: Yeah. That S.O.B. caused my last heart attack.
Blair: Yes, he did. And now he's sitting pretty with everything he wants.
Asa: Hmm. Kevin took the paper away from him.
Blair: Oh, you think that's going to stop Todd? He's plotting right now a way to get it back.
Asa: Is he now?
Blair: You're surprised?
Asa: Ugh, I need a cigar.
Blair: You just set one down right there. Yeah. I heard Todd this morning on the phone, planning to destroy Kevin. I think "The Banner Sun" is the tip of the iceberg.
Asa: He'll never get away with it.
Blair: And who is going to stop him, huh? Unless -- never mind.
Asa: Wait a minute, unless what?
Blair: I was thinking -- what if the two of us joined forces and turned the tables on Todd? I mean, he would never suspect the two of us working together, would he?
Asa: You -- ahem -- you and I can't even stand the sight of each other.
Blair: Yeah, you're right, Asa. I know. It was a bad idea. Forget I even mentioned it.
Asa: You want Manning out of your life or not?
Blair: Of course I do.
Asa: Find out what he's up to. Come back and tell me.
Blair: You would actually help me set him up?
Asa: I'll think about it.
Blair: I don't trust you, Asa.
Asa: I don't trust you. Come back with something I believe, and then maybe we'll talk about it.
Viki: Why? What are you up to now?
Todd: Nothing. I'm enjoying my life with Blair and the children, looking forward to the future.
Viki: That is a big change.
Todd: Yeah. Maybe there are some traits you just can't shake. You know?
Viki: You mean being Victor Lord's son.
Todd: You're supposed to say, "You can be your own man. You don't have to be like your father." Blah, blah, blah.
Viki: Well, maybe I need a new speech, huh?
Todd: No, I like the old one.
Viki: Of course you can be your own man. You are your own person. But obviously, we all carry our parents inside of us. We don't have a choice there. But we do have a choice, and it's what we do with it. I'm just hoping that you will let your love for your wife and your children guide your life. Unfortunately, Kevin, right now, is letting anger guide his. And I can only hope that Natalie -- I don't know. I hope she makes the right choice, whatever it is.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________[Classical music plays]
Jessica: May I borrow my fiancé for a moment, please?
Sonia: Of course.
Jessica: She has been stuck to you all night like glue.
Antonio: Would you relax? She was just asking me about the break-in. She was a little scared. And I haven't taken my eyes off of you for one second.
Jessica: I know. I love it. So, are you ok with Tico now?
Antonio: When he throws a good party.
Tico: I'm sorry Kelly couldn't make it tonight.
Dorian: She's going through a very difficult time, but she's going to be fine.
David: Dorian's like a tiger when it comes to her girls.
Tico: Well, that's the way she kept Adriana safe all these years, and for that I'm very grateful, Dorian.
Dorian: I'm just grateful to have Adriana in my life. Excuse me.
David: Now, Augustico -- maybe I'll call you Gus -- if you're looking for a new investment opportunity, you have got to come by the "Craze" operation. Our editor, Blair Cramer, she's a whiz.
Tico: Well, she's not my biggest fan ever since I outbid her for this place.
David: Hmm. Well, maybe you can make it up to her.
Tico: Well -- yes?
Tico: Have her join us. Excuse me.
Tico: Everyone, I would like to introduce another special member of my family. She has just arrived from Madrid. She is the governess who raised me after my mother's death. Angelina.
Carlotta: Dios mio!
Natalie: My God, mom, how could you do something like that?
Viki: Like what?
Natalie: And, you know, it's not bad enough that you and Jessica make me feel like a total idiot who can't take care of anything, make her own choices -- but then you go and have a secret dinner with Paul behind my back so you can make him hate me?
Viki: Natalie, I did not have a "secret dinner" with Paul. We were in a very public restaurant, and I assumed he was going to tell you about it.
Natalie: Yeah, well, he told me, all right -- that you think that he's after my money, as if that's all I'm worth.
Viki: That -- I never said that.
Natalie: That's what this is all about, right? It's all underneath there. You don't think that anyone could possibly love me for just myself. You know, I want to know -- why is it that you never think that anybody else is after Jessica’s money?
Viki: Honey, I did not do anything underhanded, ok? I asked to meet with Paul because I love you and I am worried about you.
Natalie: Me or my bank account?
Viki: Ok, I'm not going to lie to you. I don't trust Paul Cramer, and he did nothing tonight to change my mind.
Natalie: He cares about me.
Viki: Yes, I think he actually cares about you, yes. But, honey, moving in with the man is a huge commitment, and I would hate to see you make an unwise choice.
Natalie: Yeah, well, seeing as how I'm the stupid sister, and I'm easily manipulated and being led by the evil Paul Cramer, I guess you're going to have to expect some more unwise decisions. So get used to it.
Viki: Oh, Natalie --
[Door opens and slams]
Carlotta: Oh, lo siento. I'm -- I apologize. It's just such a shock to see you.
Antonio: How do you know this woman?
Carlotta: Uh, we -- we met each other in Puerto Rico. It's just that we haven't seen each other for so many years.
Tico: Angelina has been like a mother to me. Much more than a ninera. When Sonia came to live with us, she raised her, as well. Come, sit down.
Carlotta: Sonia --
Carlotta: Tell me more about your family in Malaga.
Dorian: Darling, you look pale. Are you all right?
Adriana: Uh, no, actually, I don't feel well. I think I'd like to go home.
Dorian: Well, I'll take you home.
Adriana: No, no, no. You should stay, have a good time.
Tico: I'm sorry you're not feeling well. Would you like to go upstairs and lie down?
Adriana: I'd actually really like to go home, please.
Tico: Of course. I'll have my chauffeur drive you.
Dorian: Oh, that's so marvelous. Thank you, Augustico.
Sonia: Excuse me.
Jessica: Sonia, I think it's time you and I had a little talk, just us girls.
Sonia: Of course.
[Classical music plays]
Sonia: So what did you want to talk to me about?
Jessica: I'm writing an article on the Santi family. I've already interviewed Tico, and I was hoping that you could set aside some time for me to tell me about your experiences with Manuel Santi.
Sonia: Tico was his son. I don't know what I could add.
Jessica: Tico never met his father. You lived at Manuel’s house for 12 years. Your mother worked for him.
Sonia: Fine. Make an appointment, but not tonight.
Adriana: I'm just really tired. I'm sure I'll feel better in the morning.
Dorian: And how's Kelly?
Adriana: She's sleeping.
Dorian: Well, if you need anything at all, you know where to reach me.
Adriana's voice: "Today River and I made love. I wanted to wait, but when I looked at River, when he kissed me, I knew it was the right thing to do. Today was the most perfect, beautiful day of my life."
Adriana: Two weeks late. Oh God, I'm pregnant.
David: How's Adriana?
Dorian: She says she's just feeling tired, but I know there's something bothering her. I'm going to talk to her in the morning.
David: Well, don't you pressure her. She'll tell you what's wrong when she's ready.
Dorian: Maybe I'll take her shopping.
David: Ah, the Cramer women's cure-all. That should fix things up. And if you see something that's hollering my name --
Dorian: I won't let it get away.
David: There you go.
Jessica: Your family. I'm not going to quit till I figure out the whole story.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________Viki: Oh, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord, Lord. I know I've asked an awful lot of you lately. I just can't stand to see my children so lost. I mean, there's poor little Joey, so far away in London. I don't even know what he's doing. And Natalie -- I don't know about this relationship. Lord, help them find what they're looking for, please. Kevin. I don't know what to do about Kevin. I mean, I know that there is good in him, Lord. I guess I'd like him to find that part of himself again. And Todd -- oh, boy. Well, at least he says he's happy. Keep him strong. Don't let his demons get the best of him again.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________Todd: So I reached out to my guy at the county clerk's office --
Todd: In the off chance that Asa’s property was in some kind of trouble.
Blair: Was it?
Blair: Oh. Well, you should have seen Asa’s beady little eyes at the prospects of destroying you. I can tell you right now, is certainly not ready to trust me.
Todd: Well, maybe you better turn up the old heat.
Todd: If anybody can turn up the heat, it's you.
Blair: Well, he's going to find out that I have learned a few things since I was Mrs. Asa Buchanan.
Todd: I think we should come up with a name for the mansion, don't you?
Blair: Ooh, yeah. Hey -- Manning Manor. Like it?
Todd: [British accent] Manning Manor.
Blair: [British accent] Yeah.
Todd: [British accent] It sounds good to me.
Blair: [Normal voice] Good.
Todd: [Normal voice] You ready to go in for the kill?
Blair: I can hardly wait.
Todd: All right, then. Manning Manor, here we come.
Blair: Here we come.
>> Stay tuned for scenes from the next "One Life to Live."
Natalie: So, how's it going with Evangeline?
Antonio: What's going on with you and Angelina?
Carlotta: We knew each other years ago. We have many memories.
Antonio: Is that all it is?
Sonia: I just don't want you talking to Antonio. The farther you stay away from him, the better.
