Marcie: I'm sorry. I just saw you come in. I thought maybe I could get you something -- coffee, tea, me?
Marcie: What about a sandwich from Lundy's? You know, they make great smoothies.
John: Not now.
Marcie: Oh, ok. Yeah, sure. Well, if you change your mind, I'll be outside, ok?
Marcie: "Tomorrow night will be more than just a Valentine's Day party. I have an incredible surprise for you. Michael."
Al: Hey, Natalie, you coming to the Valentine's Day party at Capricorn tomorrow night?
Natalie: I don't know.
Al: Listen, I had to pull some strings, but I got Simply Red to play.
Natalie: Simply Red? I love that band. That's -- that's amazing. That's -- but I don't know that I'm really ready for that.
Al: Yeah, I know and I understand, but, I mean, what could be the harm in stopping by and listening to a couple of songs?
Natalie: I'll think about it.
Al: Good. Oh, yeah, by the way, whatever you do, don't mention a word of this to Marcie. It's a big surprise.
Natalie: No problem. Seems that you are pretty crazy about Marcie, about as much as Al was.
Al: Well, yeah. You got a problem with that?
Natalie: No, but you might. I mean, when a girl loses a guy like we did -- I'm just saying that Marcie may not be ready for a new guy, that's all.

Daniel: You did get caught with your pants down, however, when your expert witness failed to show up. So, what happened?
Nora: You know, actually, I don't know what held Rae up.

Nora: Yeah, I did. Her secretary said she missed two appointments at L.U., as well. You know, I'm starting to worry about her.

Nora: Ok, Rae’s housekeeper says from the looks of her house, she didn't come home last night.
Bo: You know what? I'm going to go back to the station. Excuse me. I'm going to have some people check around, ok?
Bo: Do you need a lift?
Nora: No, and I've got lunch.
Bo: Thank you. Daniel.
Nora: Daniel, do you know if anyone's seen Rae?

Al: Plus, if you're at Capricorn tomorrow night, you don't have to serve drinks.
Natalie: Michael, oh, my god --
Al: Hello? Dr. McBain.
Marcie: It's me, Marcie. I got your card.

Marcie: I did. But I'm not going to be able to make that party after all, Michael.

Marcie: You know, it's just -- it's really a bad time. Everyone here at the station -- half of the staff is out with the flu, and, you know, they're counting on me, so --

Marcie: That and coordinating things. You know, I'm more up to speed than most people around here.
Al: Listen, Marcie, you want to tell me what's really going on here? Because this is the second time that you've tried to cancel this date.
Marcie: Yeah. All right, to tell you the truth, I'm really not ready to spend Valentine’s Day with anybody else. I'm still in love with Al.
Al: Look, there's no mistletoe or a kiss at midnight or anything like that. I mean, it's just a couple people --
Marcie: I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I got to go. Bye.
Al: I have to get her to fall in love with me by Valentine’s Day or else I'm going to be gone, forever.

Bo: Marcie, could you do me a favor -- call around and see if you can locate Rae Cummings for me?
Marcie: Yeah, sure. Will do.

John: That doctor in Illinois, the one who treated the love child killer -- the one who died?
John: No trace of a death certificate. Just returned mail marked "Deceased."
Bo: That was a few years ago.
John: Something about it, Bo, just not right.
Rae: There's no windows.
Rae: It's dead. Oh, God. It's dead. Ok. Ok. Ok.

[Mid-tempo synthesized music]
River: What are you doing here, Grandma?
Dorian: Trying to prevent you from making a tragic mistake.
River: We love each other, Grandma. Please go home.
Man: Excuse me. Are you the young man's Grandmother?
Dorian: Yes, I am. I am also the young lady's mother.
Man: Now, wait. Which one are you?
David: She's the bride's mother and she's the groom's grandmother.
Man: That would make the groom --
Paul: No, no, no. Hold on, hold on. There's no blood ties here, all right? River is adopted.
River: Which is true, so you really have no business being here, ok?
Dorian: I most certainly do.
Man: Now, wait a minute. I still don't understand. If there’s no blood relation, what's the problem? Why are you interfering?
Dorian: She's too young to get married. She's only 16 years old.
Man: Their paperwork says she's 18.
Adriana: I am. She's lying. She's only trying to stop this so I'll inherit a ton of money that I don't even want.
Man: You don't want money?
Adriana: No, all we care about is loving each other. You just have to marry us, please.
Stephen: Thank you very much. Tell you what -- if I hear from Rae, I will call you, and hopefully you'll do the same for me.
Nora: Oh, yes, absolutely. I will.
Stephen: Good. So -- good night.
Nora: Good night. Enjoy your takeout.
Stephen: My takeout. Yes, I will. Oh --
Jessica: Oh, Dr. Haver. I'm sorry.
Stephen: Listen, would you mind -- could we just talk for a minute?
Stephen: I hope this doesn't sound too strange, but I just had a couple of meetings with Agent McBain, and I just think it would be -- well, it might be a good idea if you limited your time with him. You see, he's -- he's starting to become more and more obsessed with this killer.
Jessica: Yeah, l, I can see why.
Stephen: But, see, the problem is when someone in law enforcement becomes frustrated for so long, they tend to lose their judgment. Now, I know that you are trying to get information for your article, but I'm just saying try to -- don't put pressure on John at this time. He's just -- he's -- well, he's becoming obsessed, like I said, and -- well, don't take this the wrong way.
Stephen: He may tend to become irrational about this case. I mean, we hope it won't happen, but I've seen it happen before.
Jessica: Yeah, all right. He's having a hard time.
Stephen: Yes, yes, he certainly is. Poor guy. Well, I'll see you tomorrow, then.

Nora: Any word on Rae?
Bo: No, and John hasn't heard anything, either.
John: You know, when she came in here after seeing MacIver, she was contemplating something.
Bo: Yeah, and she wanted to sleep on it before she pointed the finger at somebody.
Nora: You don't think she's gone off and done something on her own and gotten herself into trouble, do you?
Bo: Not necessarily, but it's just --
John: This whole thing started with MacIver. Wherever he pointed her, that's where we have to go look.
Nora: I'm coming with you.

Marcie: "Life and death"? Don't you think you're being a little melodramatic, Michael?
Al: Well, I know that it sounds like that, but, no, I'm not.
Marcie: All right, well, whose life? Whose death? I mean, who are we talking about? Because people -- they really do die.
Al: Well, it's sort of one of those Shirley McClain metaphysical sort of deals. Listen, I know that you think that I'm exaggerating here, but this is really important to me. I know that you're still hung up on Al.
Marcie: I am not hung up on Al. I'm in love with him.
Al: Right, right, and I get that. But I have really gone to a lot of trouble to make a big surprise for you. No pressure.
Marcie: Look, I really didn't want to get into this, but the station at college -- the radio station -- they asked me to put on a special Valentine's Day tribute for Al, so that's what I'm going to be doing.
Al: Sounds really nice. Think maybe you can make it afterwards?
Marcie: Oh, I --
Al: Hey, what if I had bailed on you and that stupid dinner party that you threw when you sprang my mom on me out of no place?
Marcie: It was not stupid, and that was completely different!
Al: No, it wasn’t.

John: The only people he's supposed to see are the guards who bring him his food.

Nora: How are we going to find out what happened to Rae?

Lindsay: I know you think I've been having an affair with Rex, but --

Lindsay: Sometimes I am attracted to the wrong kind of man.

Lindsay: And sometimes I'm attracted to the right kind. I have enjoyed getting to know you. I have thought about you.
Daniel: Really? Sorry I missed it.
Lindsay: And you're going to again if you just shove me out of your life.
Daniel: Look, Lindsay, it's not that I don't like you. I -- as a matter of fact, I probably like you a little too much.
Lindsay: Well, I'm downright likable.
Daniel: Too much to share you with another guy. Especially one that's young enough to be my son. Sorry.
Natalie: So what'd you want to tell me about John?
Jessica: I saw something that I shouldn't have. I -- you know what? Since I did, I'm just going to tell you. I walked in on him and Bo at the police station. They were watching this tape of a woman being shot and killed on it, and John was in the tape.
Natalie: Oh, my God, that's horrible. Do you know who the woman was?
Jessica: No, I don't, but I definitely know the guy on the tape was John.
Natalie: God. It's his fiancée, Caitlin.
Jessica: Well, John was shot in the tape, as well.
Natalie: Yeah, yeah, he was right there with her. But why would he have a tape?
Jessica: I don't know, but it's kind of scary. I was just talking to Dr. Haver, and he was telling me that John could be losing it a little bit, that this case is affecting him more than we all realize.
Natalie: You know what? I think -- I think I better go see John.
Jessica: Well, he was with Bo, and I think that he must be home by now.
Jessica: Oh, wait. I'm going to walk with you. I have to be at "The Banner," anyway.
Nora: Hi, Asa. Any word on Rae?
Bo: No, I was hoping maybe you heard something.
Bo: Anything on MacIver?
Nora: No, he's got this dementia like he's still on drugs --
Asa: Excuse me, honey. While you two are still trying to solve the problems of your day, I'm still waiting for an answer from my son.
Bo: What? Oh, hell, Pa, come on, yeah. I'll be your best man. I'm always your best man.
Nora: You're kidding? You convinced Renee to do it again? Third time, huh?
Asa: Third time's the charm.
Nora: Well, that's -- that's -- congratulations. When's the big day?
Asa: Tomorrow night. Don't you ever even think of getting any ideas. You're not invited.

Asa: But every time that I have one of these Texas-sized weddings, my marriage seems to go whump in the dumper. So this time, it's just going to be the two of us and the preacher.

Bo: Where'd John go?
Nora: He went back to the hotel. Something about a shot on how he could find out who the killer is.
John: Yeah, "Banner" photo department? Finally. It's like getting into the D.M.V. Over there. It's McBain. Hey, you have any idea when your guy's going to get here with those negatives I asked for?
[Knock on door]
John: Hang on a second. Maybe it's him now, all right? Yeah, I'll call you back. Hi.
Natalie: Expecting someone else?
John: Yeah, just some work. What's up?
Natalie: I hope I'm not trespassing, but Jessica told me about the tape that you and Bo were watching.
John: What tape?
Natalie: The one of you and a woman being shot.
John: How'd she know about that?
Natalie: She walked in while you guys were watching it by mistake.
John: She didn't say anything.
Natalie: It was your fiancée, Caitlin?
Natalie: I'm sorry.
John: I know.
Natalie: Look, I -- I just came by because I wanted to see if you were ok.
John: Yeah, well, I wish you hadn't done that.
Dorian: Adriana, you've got to promise me that you are not going to run away again.
Adriana: Would you believe me?
Dorian: David is going to be keeping an eye on you. You're young, my dear. Far too young to let River talk you into doing something very foolish.
River: It's not very foolish to fall in love. People in love get married, Dorian.
Dorian: Some do, some don't.
Adriana: Haven't you ever loved someone so much that you wanted to spend the rest of your life as husband and wife?
Dorian: Yes, I have. I had those feelings once.
Adriana: So what happened?
Dorian: I learned to invest my heart where it really counts, yes, to put it into something that would truly last.
River: Treasury Bonds.
Dorian: My darling girl, you have to admit, you have a lot to learn.
David: And Dorian is a hell of a teacher. You're lucky to have her.
River: Well, in that case, I'm staying right here.

River: And now that I've found some one that I'm totally in love with, you won't even let me see her.

River: My own grandmother is ripping me up for money. Wow. I really hope it's worth it for you guys.

Babe: I want you to forget about your problems and think about mine because I know that you don't want rich Aunt Betsy to find out you were married once. You'd wind up penniless.
Paul: We wouldn't want that, would we?

John: Look, nothing personal, but you shouldn't be here right now.
Natalie: Are you kicking me out?
John: Natalie, this killer -- he's playing games with me. All right, dangerous games. Now, I don't know where it's headed, but I know he's watching. So the safest place for you is as far away from me as you can get.
Natalie: What if I don't want to be far away?
John: Then I'd be worried about you and not looking for him.
Natalie: John --

Natalie: I'm sorry about what was on the videotape. I know what you must be feeling. Save your breath. He doesn't want either one of us here.
John: You -- come here. So I guess I've got to watch my back at the police station, or is that what you call "investigative journalism"? Close the door.
Jessica: Look, I'm sorry that I saw that, ok? When I was at "The Banner," they were going to send this down to you. I offered to bring it.
John: Yeah? So what do you make of them? Come on, you volunteered to messenger so you could take a peek, so what did you think of them?
Jessica: Well, they're negatives of the white rose crime scene, and there are some of you at a conference in New Jersey somewhere.
John: Yeah, you helped yourself.
Jessica: Look, what do you make out of them?
John: I don't know, but that's what I'm going to find out.
Rae: Of course it doesn't work. God, why don't you answer me? Why? Ok, you said that whether I live or die, it's up to me. Now, you didn't tell me how. Is it something I do, or is it something I don't do? What? What? You know what? This is a hell of a time for you to take some stupid trip, you --
Man: You are about to make your debut as an actress.
Rae: Oh. Oh, yes, I see. This is how it's done, isn't it?
Man: Your script is right under the door.
Rae: What am I supposed to do with this?
Man: Go to the phone, call the police, and ask for Bo Buchanan.
Rae: I would love to do that except the phone doesn't work.
Man: It does now. Go ahead. Call. When he answers, I want you r read from that script. But if you deviate by one word or try to alert the police, you'll be dead in one minute.
Dorian: Did you see him to the door?
David: I delivered him right into the firm grasp of Reverend Carpenter himself.
Dorian: I'm telling you, that was a close call. If River had married her, if Aunt Betsy had disinherited her --
David: Then that little sneak, Paul, would've gotten all of our money.
Dorian: Adriana's money.
David: Oh, right. Sorry. But we'll always be one step ahead of your greedy little nephew.
Dorian: Protecting Adriana.
David: He's really no match for the two of us, is he?
David: In fact, no one is. It's really kind of pathetic.
David: I don't want a drink.
Paul: Are you getting cuter, or am I drunker?
Babe: Probably both. They say a woman with a child has a glow.
Paul: Oh, yeah. But whose child?
Babe: Well, obviously, it's better for both of us if it's J.R.'S child, not yours.
Paul: Amen to that.
Babe: And you can make sure of that for us. All you got to do is take a little trip, say you're from Pine Valley, and if the test doesn't show that my husband's a match, you make it match and we're both out of a jam.
Paul: Why not? You know, play this right, we hook up on the sly, inherit my $30 million, and we could have a beautiful future together.
Babe: Anything's possible.
Al: Hey, Natalie. Listen, do you think that Marcie would want, like, these animal pens or just some red roses or -
Natalie: Have you talked to your brother?
Al: John, no. Hey, do you know if he likes Simply Red?
Natalie: Listen I think that John may be under a lot of pressure right now, and he needs all the support he can get.
Al: Oh, all right. Well, I'll check on him when I get home. I'll ask him if he wants to go to that concert.
Jessica: Oh, what do you expect to find? Do you think that the killer could have shown up at the press conference? Would he be that vain or just go there to gloat?
John: You should go, too.
Jessica: I don't want to go, John. I want to help. I can help.
John: You aren't law enforcement. You're a damn kid, all right? You're on the outside, and you are staying on the outside. You want to help? You really want to help? Then keep away from this case and keep away from me.
Jessica: You are obsessed. Dr. Haver was right.
Marcie: Rae Cummings just called in. She's on line one.
Bo: Thank you.
Rae: Bo. I'm calling because I haven't been able to reach Nora.
Bo: Nora's right here.
Nora: Hey, Rae, hi. Where have you been?
Rae: I'm so sorry I missed testifying in court, but I had an emergency, a call from a suicidal patient. I had to go to her instantly.
Nora: Oh, fine. I just wish you'd called. We were -- we were getting worried about you.
Rae: I can't say much more about it to protect the patient's privacy. You understand.
Nora: No, yes, absolutely. Can I count on you tomorrow in court?
Rae: I promise I'll be in touch as soon as the crisis is over.
Bo: Rae, are you sure you're all right?
Rae: I'm just worried about the patient, Bo. I'll be in touch. I did the best I could.
Man: Excellent. And congratulations for sticking to the script. And your little ad lib -- you clearly want to stay alive.
Rae: Yes, of course I do. Ok. What happens now?
