Previously on "One Life to Live" --

Starr: Dr. Troy, please help I need to see my dad.

Asa: I will give you anything. I just want a divorce.

Jen: What, do you want me just to put face and pretend you didn't completely break my heart?

Todd: This isn't about me. This is about Viki. So, unless you want Viki to lose everything that she has, better start listening.

Viki: What are you doing in my house?

Mitch: It's not yours anymore, Viki.

Cristian's voice: Hi, this is Cristian and Jen. Leave a message and we'll get back to you. Thanks.

[Answering machine]

Rex: What time is it? What month is it? It's afternoon already. Oh, I am so late for work. Listen, cool party last night -- what I remember of it. No way can I function like this. I'm not seeing too clear right now.

Jen: I am.

Asa: That damn grifter. He's nothing but a no-good sidewinder. That con artist -- huh -- he's not going to get away with it.

Nigel: That would be Mr. Laurence, Sir?

Asa: Who else? Now he’s starting to throw his damn weight around. Well, it's going to be thrown around by somebody else.

Nigel: And that would be you, Sir?

Asa: Ah?

Nigel: Don't upset yourself, Sir. Your heart, remember?

Asa: My heart's fine. You know it. That was all fake to make Gretel feel guilty enough to give me a divorce.

Nigel: Without taking you for all you're worth?

Asa: Nobody takes Asa Buchanan for a thing.

Nigel: Well put, Sir.

Asa: Get my coat.

Rae: Asa.

Asa: Not now, Gretel.

Rae: Just let me take a look at you. I haven't seen you since you were released from the hospital, and, well, you've been staying in your room, and I have been a little worried about you.

Asa: So now you've seen me. Get the hell out of my way.

Rae: Asa -- I'm glad that you're all right.

Asa: I'm not all right. My heart was damaged, thanks to you, and it may be fatal. And my doctors told me to avoid stress completely, which means you.

[Glass breaks]

Blair: Hey! Starr Manning, you stop it! You stop it right now! Do you hear me?

Starr: Leave me alone! I hate you!

Blair: That is enough. Now, stop it.

Starr: Let go of me!

Blair: Starr, just stop!

Starr: I don't want to listen what -- I don't want to listen --

Blair: Listen --

Starr: To what you have to say!

Blair: I don't care what you want right now. You listen to me. Now, I'm tired of this destructive behavior. You hear me? You sneaking around making phone calls, pretending to be sick -- now, I've had it! Starr, listen to me. It is not going to let me let you see your daddy.

Starr: Then what is?

Blair: Nothing.

Sam: Oh, good, everybody's here -- finally.

Todd: Okay, shut up. Don't even start with me.

Viki: You know, I'm not really very comfortable with this. I guess I have to accept that Natalie's not here, but, then, she's never really been involved in family business. I just wish I knew some way to get a hold of Tina.

Todd: Okay, I think we've wasted enough time talking about that airhead.

Jessica: Todd, stop it. Mitch Laurence wants to take everything this family has. Tina has a right to know.

Sam: It's not a done deal, Jessica.

Todd: Yes, it is.

Sam: Excuse me? What's that?

Todd: It's a videotape that Victor Lord made of his last will and testament. Dictates everything he wanted done with his properties, all of his holdings -- everything.

Sam: Well, isn't that convenient? What took so long for you to bring this to everyone's attention, Todd?

Todd: Well, I wanted to see it first.

Sam: And how long did that take?

Todd: Don't know -- a while. Things have been kind of confusing lately.

Sam: How so?

Todd: What difference does that make? It's here now.

Sam: You've altered videotape before, Todd, done some creative editing to make it prove what you wanted to.

Todd: Just look at it.

Sam: Being the only witness to a videotape, Todd, would never stand up in court.

Todd: But I'm not the only witness.

Sam: Who else?

Todd: Viki. Viki's a witness. Isn't that right, Vik? And it's a good thing, too, because without this tape, Mitch Laurence gets everything. Your family is not protected. Family goes bye-bye. So, tell them. Tell Sam how you saw Victor Lord make this videotape.

Marcie: Jen. I've been so worried. I tried to call, but no one answered, and, you know, you were acting so -- oh.

Rex: See you on campus. Listen, last night was -- it was great. We'll definitely hook up again. Marcie.

Marcie: Rex. You know, I -- I saw you leave with him, but -- but --

Jen: But what?

Marcie: What happened after you left?

Jen: It's a little blurry, all right?

Marcie: Oh, yeah, I know. I -- I know you were drinking and he kept giving you booze and -- did he put something in your drink? He took advantage of you. I mean, how could he have forced himself on you? That jerk!

Jen: That's not exactly accurate

Blair: Starr, you better have everything cleaned up in there because you left candies out here in the hall. Starr? Starr! Hedy, is Starr upstairs?

Hedy: No, Mrs. Manning.

Blair: She's not in her room?

Hedy: No, and her jacket's gone.

Blair: What?

Hedy: I'm sorry. It is not my fault. I've been with Jack, which is my job --

Blair: No, no, Hedy, I know that it's not your fault. It's my fault. I should've known better than to leave Starr when she's angry like this. God -- maybe I know where she is.

[Phone rings]

Troy: Hello?

Blair: Troy, it's -- it's Blair. Is Starr there?

Troy: Starr? No.

Blair: She's not? I thought for sure that she would go over to your place.

Troy: Why? What happened?

Blair: Well, we had this huge fight, and Starr got really angry, and then she left. I don't know where she is. Look, I'm going to have to let you go. I'll call the police and -- because if anything happened to her --

Troy: Blair, just calm down, all right? Let's -- let's think this through a minute.

[Knock on door]

Starr: Dr. Troy, you home?

Troy: Guess who just showed up.

Blair: Thank God. Just keep her there. I'm on my way there. But whatever you do, don't tell her that I'm on my way.

Troy: All right, I will -- I will see you soon.

Starr: Don't worry. I didn't come to live here because you already told me that I couldn't do that.

Troy: Oh, yeah? So, what brings you here, then?

Starr: Well, I came here to say goodbye.

Troy: Goodbye?

Starr: I'm blowing town.

Troy: You are? Well, good for you.

Starr: Yeah, good for -- wait, what do you mean, good for me?

Troy: Good for you. I mean, come on, Starr, this is me. I understand.

Starr: You do?

Troy: Of course. But you knew I would, right? I mean, that's why you came to me. But I'll tell you what -- before you hit the road, how about a hot chocolate for the road, huh?

Starr: With whipped cream?

Troy: With whipped cream? With extra whipped cream. Come on. You get the whipped cream. It's in there.

Starr: Okay.

Troy: You know, I am going to miss you, though. Of course, your mom will, to but I guess that was the point, right? You figured your mom will miss you so much that she might get back together with your dad just so that you might come home again?

Starr: What's so wrong with that?

Troy: Nothing, except it's not going to work.

Starr: Why not? I mean, my mom and dad still love each other, right?

Troy: Let's talk, Sweetheart. Come on over to the table. You see, Starr, sometimes two people can love each other very much, but sometimes it's not enough.

Starr: Then what is enough?

Troy: Trust. And trust takes honesty. And anything less -- like lies or plans or schemes -- just doesn't work.

Starr: Is that why you and Nora didn't get married?

Troy: You're a smart kid. You know that? That's why me and Nora didn't get married.

Starr: My dad's lies and schemes didn't work, either.

Man: I've got another will to execute this afternoon, so I'd like to get started.

Mitch: So would I.

Viki: Well, by all means, why don't you go in and sit down, and we'll begin shortly.

Todd: You know, you don't have to be nice to these people, Viki.

Viki: Listen to me -- I appreciate what you're trying to do. Todd, I cannot say that I was a witness to father making that videotape. I can't. I'm sorry.

Todd: Fine. I guess we'll have to get by on my word and the tape.

Sam: But they won't be enough. Laurence will hire experts, Todd, professionals with equipment that can detect even the most seamless edit.

Todd: Fine. I'll hire my own experts.

Sam: Forget the tape, Todd. We're going after this will legally.

Todd: Okay, there. You know what? I just saw you. You thought about it. You're thinking about it.

Viki: But you'd never get away with it. Come on. Well, may I suggest we begin?

Man: Very well.

Man: "I, Victor Lord, a resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, being of sound and disposing mind and memory, do hereby make, publish, and declare this to be my last will and testament, hereby revoking and canceling all prior wills and codicils at any time heretofore made by me, desiring that they shall have no force or effect whatsoever. I hereby give and bequeath all my assets held at my death, whether real or personal, of whatever nature and kind, and all of my personal effects of every and all kind and all of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate from now until perpetuity to Mitchell Laurence, also known as Michael Lazarus. "Witness whereof --" etc., etc. Dated, witnessed, notarized, and signed by Victor Lord.

Todd: What's the big deal? So what? The old man left some stuff to this -- this vulture. How much could it be? What, a mattress full of cash? A barn in the middle of nowhere? So what?

Mitch: Ms. Williamson?

Evangeline: This will relates back and nullifies any prior will. Victor's original will is now invalid.

Mitch: Which means I get everything bequeathed under the first will all those years ago. Now, let's see. In addition to everything else, that would include a great deal of Viki's money, ownership of "The Banner," and the sum of -- what was it, exactly? -- $27.8 million.

Todd: Can he do that?

Sam: If the will is valid.

Evangeline: Oh, it's valid, all right.

Mitch: And then there's a certain house and all its contents -- the very house we're in right now, in fact. Llanfair, dear Viki, is mine.

Troy: You look tired.

Starr: I am a little.

Troy: Yeah?

Starr: I didn't sleep all last night.

Troy: Why? What were you doing, packing?

Starr: No, I was afraid to fall asleep.

Troy: What are you afraid of?

Starr: I was afraid that I was going to dream that my mom and dad are back together. And then I would wake up and, well, they wouldn't be back together, and it would make everything 10 times worse.

Troy: Sweetheart, it's okay to dream. Don't you ever be afraid to dream.

Starr: My mom doesn't believe that.

Troy: How do you know that?

Starr: I hear her.

Troy: What does she say?

Starr: Well, she wakes up in the middle of the night, and I hear her crying. Do you dream about Nora?

Troy: Yeah, I do. I dream about Nora all the time. But, unfortunately, Nora and I aren't going to be getting back together.

Starr: Neither will my mom and dad, I don't think.

[Knock on door]

Blair: Where is she?

Troy: She's asleep on the bed. Look, don't be mad at her, all right?

Blair: I'm more mad at myself. Oh. You know what? She has been pleading for me to see Todd, and what's my big comeback? I yell at her. Talk about irresponsible parenting.

Troy: I wouldn't be so hard on yourself. It hasn't been easy for you, either.

Blair: No, this isn't about me. This is about Starr, and this cannot continue to happen. She throws a tantrum, and then she comes after you. I mean --

Troy: It's fine, it's fine.

Blair: No, it's not fine!

Troy: Look, I don't mind.

Blair: I mind.

Troy: At least it looks like she might finally be starting to come to grips with you and Todd being apart again, if that's any consolation.

Blair: I hope.

Troy: How about you? How you doing?

Blair: I'm fine.

Troy: Yeah? So how come you cry yourself to sleep at night?

Marcie: I hope you were careful this time.

Jen: I have no intention of getting pregnant again, okay? Especially not by somebody like Rex.

Marcie: See, that's the one thing that I -- I just -- I don't understand. It sounds like you don't even like Rex, you know, so why would you want to -- well, you know --

Jen: Sleep with him? It was no big deal. Rex is okay, I mean, but it's not somebody I'd want to be with long-term. It was just a good time, that's it. No strings, no attachments, no problems.

Marcie: Well, maybe I don't have as much experience as you, but, you know, I just don't get it. You're smart and you're pretty, and a million guys want to go out with you.

Jen: What's your point?

Marcie: Why waste your time with Rex? He's just using you.

Jen: No, you're wrong. I know what it's like to be used, to give your heart to somebody completely and then to find out that you're just not good enough, that the only thing they want is to be with somebody else. That is being used. I'm not going to be like my mom, obsessing over someone and then getting dumped. No, you know what? No, Rex is not using me. I am using him.

Renee: You're late.

Rex: Yeah, I'm sorry. I was at the library studying for a paper, and I fell asleep. I'm sorry.

Renee: Don't let it happen again.

Rex: It won't. Thanks, Ms. Divine.

Rae: Oh, Renee, I'm glad I caught you. Do you have a minute?

Renee: We've already said everything that we have to say to each other. Excuse me.

Rae: You look a little depressed. Of course, there's a lot of that going around.

Hank: Frustration is more like it. I'm trying to build a case against Mitch Laurence, and I --

Rae: And what?

Hank: Look, I'm sorry. For a second there, I thought I was talking to someone I used to confide in. But somehow she ceased to exist.

Rae: You don't really believe that, do you?

Hank: Well, I haven't seen her around. All I've seen is, well, someone I don't even recognize, a woman who's all about money and status. When it comes to friendship and trust -- not a clue.

Rae: Hank, come on. That woman's not gone. Maybe missing in action. But if you want to talk to someone about what's troubling you, what you're feeling -- look, if you want to take a last chance on someone that you think doesn't deserve it but who needs it desperately, I'm here.

Mitch: Allow me to propose a toast -- to my benefactor, the late, great Victor Lord.

Viki: I don't think so. Do you honestly think that you're going to get away with this?

Mitch: I believe so, yes. The Lord helps those who help themselves -- double-entendre notwithstanding. Why Asa.

Asa: I would just love to wring your damn scrawny neck. And this stunt you're trying to pull ain't going to happen.

Mitch: Well, you're a little late, cowboy. And, by the way, you're trespassing.

Viki: Asa, don't. Please, he's not worth it.

Asa: But the satisfaction would be.

Mitch: Today's "Banner." Your last edition, Viki. Thank you for all the years of good work. I could give you a gold watch, but don't have one. You can keep the one you're wearing, however. I'm feeling charitable.

Asa: Oh, stop mouthing off, Laurence.

Mitch: I took the liberty of highlighting some listings in the real estate section for you.

Viki: Do you expect me to get down in the mud with you?

Mitch: Interesting proposition.

Viki: You are the most arrogant --

Jessica: Mom, please -- both of you, stop it. I don't believe this.

Joey: Don't let him get to you.

Jessica: We grew up here! What, you think you can just come and throw us out?

Mitch: Not you, Jessica. Now, you are loyal to your mother, and that's admirable, but you see my daughter, too. What's mine is yours. This is about much more than this house and worldly possessions. We're talking about blood. There's a connection between us that is fundamental that we cannot deny. I'm ready to share everything with you. Just say the word.

Jessica: Fine.

Joey: You can't be serious, Jessica. Don't listen to him. He's setting you up.

Jessica: I know what I'm doing, Joey.

Sam: So do I. But I think you'll change your mind once you've read the agreement Ms. Williamson has drawn up for you to sign.

Jessica: What agreement?

Evangeline: Just a formality, completely standard in these matters.

Sam: You'll be prohibited from giving anything to your mother or any other member of the Lord, Buchanan, or Manning family.

Jessica: Well, if it's my money, why can't I do what I want with it?

Sam: There's more, Jessica. In order to share in the proceeds, you will have to be -- you will be obligated to live here in this house with Mitch Laurence.

Evangeline: Who happens to be her father. It's hardly much to ask, considering the benefits.

Jessica: Forget it. I don't want anything to do with you now or ever.

Mitch: Well, I pray that you will come to change your mind, Jessica, because I do love you. All right, in that case, I suggest you all start packing. As soon as the will clears probate, I will take possession of Llanfair. You know, it may be a cliché, but I think it's true -- there really is no place like home.

Asa: Don't get too comfortable, Mitch. All of us wildcatters had a saying down in Texas -- "Once you think that you struck crude, the ground below has a very nasty way of shifting on you."

Mitch: Well, thank you for that homespun wisdom, Asa. I'll be sure to have it inscribed on the bunkhouse door.

Asa: That's good. That's real good.

Mitch: Hmm.

Asa: We also have another saying down there.

Mitch: Oh? And what is that?

Asa: "Mess with my family, I will kill you."

Viki: Sam? What can we do?

Sam: I scheduled a meeting with Jjudge Fitzwater based on the motion to contest that we already filed. If it goes like I think, Laurence will be enjoined from taking possession and the estate will go into escrow -- at least until we can prove our allegations of fraud and coercion.

Mitch: You know, while we're waiting, I may redo the wallpaper in this room. Something that says, "I've arrived." Shall we? Adios.

Asa: Adios.

Viki: Todd -- Todd, where are you going?

Todd: I'm going to go get what's mine.

Viki: Todd, come on; don't do this. Stop! Todd --

Jessica: So, what happens now? We just pack up and move out?

Asa: What -- what in the hell is the matter with you people? I stepped on things I was more afraid of than that piece of scum. We're family. Have you all forgotten that? We take care of each other, and you all come stay with me.

Joey: Oh, thanks, Grandpa, but I think I'll just stay at the rectory for a while.

Jessica: I'm your daughter. Wherever you are, that's where I'll be.

Viki: Oh. Yes, you are my daughter. You always have been, and you always will be. And what you were willing to do just now means the world to me. But you never, ever, ever have to go anywhere near Mitch Laurence again. Sam, I would like to come with you to see the judge. May I?

Sam: Of course.

Viki: And I fully intend to come back with good news.

Blair: She is sound asleep. Poor thing.

Troy: Hmm. She was exhausted. You know, you don't look so hot yourself.

Blair: I'm fine.

Troy: Yeah, so you said.

Blair: What, you don't believe me?

Troy: No, not so much. You know, you never answered my question.

Blair: Why would I have to do that, Troy? Can't you tell? I'm pretty torn up about what happened with Todd. And I would think that you would be just as miserable about what happened with Nora.

Troy: "Miserable" doesn't even begin to describe what I'm feeling.

Blair: Well, it's your own damn fault.

Troy: Thank you.

Blair: You're welcome.

Troy: I guess I deserve that. I probably shouldn't have been so judgmental on you when you manipulated me before. I know I was pretty hard on you.

Blair: I tried to seduce you.

Troy: Well, you know, seducing me -- seducing me would've been fine, but, you see, you seduced me for all the wrong reasons. Although I know I should talk -- it's pretty much exactly the same thing I did to Lindsay.

Blair: Well, would you look at us? We're quite the pair, aren't we? The king and queen of messing things up.

Troy: I will drink to that.

Blair: Well, I can't, actually. Thank you, but I need to get Starr home.

Troy: Nah, there's no sense waking her. She's fine where she is.

Blair: Actually, I think a glass of wine would do me a world of good.

Todd: Blair! Blair, come on, open up! I got to talk to you! Blair!

Hedy: Mr. Manning, you're not supposed to be here.

Todd: Yeah, well, you know, Blair's not supposed to be changing the locks, either. I got to talk to my kids, so get out of the way.

Hedy: No, I can't let you in. Mrs. Manning was very specific. You've got a restraining order against you.

Todd: Yeah, look, you know what? Hedy, I've had a really, really bad day. I lost everything. I'd really like to talk to my kids, so you got to get out of my way or I'm just going to kind of push you.

Hedy: They're not here. There's no use, your getting arrested for nothing.

Todd: When are they coming back?

Heady: I don't know. But if you're here, Mrs. Manning will call the police. No child should have to see their father taken away in handcuffs. You should go. It's better for everyone

Jen: I got to get out of this place.

Marcie: Okay. But, hey, tell me something first. If you were using Rex, what exactly were you using him for?

Jen: A reminder.

Marcie: Of what?

Jen: That I'm in charge of who I am. That either you control your life or your life controls you.

Marcie: Makes sense.

Jen: I'm going to live my life on my own terms. First, I'm going to decide when a relationship starts and when it ends. >From now on, it's up to me. Just out to have a good time, and when it's -- when it's done, then I walk, end of story.

Marcie: Is that really what you want?

Jen: And that's really what I want.

Marcie: Sounds kind of, you know -- I don't know -- empty. Don't you ever want to fall in love?

Jen: Love? Love doesn't exist. That's why it never lasts. I'm through with love.

Hank: Mitch Laurence blackmailed Victor Lord into turning everything over to him, and now Mitch is trying to take over Llanfair.

Rae: Oh, my God. What kind of person would take advantage like that? Power and money, so driven, so blinded that you would take over somebody's house? Oh, my God.

Hank: Do you really want me to answer that?

Rae: What -- what have I become, huh? I am -- I don't even know who I am anymore. I -- I don't even recognize myself. You know that?

Hank: Doesn't have to be that way, Rae.

Rae: You're right. It doesn't, does it?

Hank: No.

Rae: Would you excuse me? Renee -- I know you have nothing to say to me, but I -- I do have something that I need to say to you.

Renee: Suit yourself. I can't promise that I'll listen, but --

Rae: Renee, I'm -- I'm -- I'm sorry. No, no, wait. I'm just -- I'm sorry.

Renee: You're still responsible for what you did, no matter what you're feeling. If you are truly sorry, you'll do something about it.

Jessica: Look at you -- so 1980s. This house sure holds a lot of memories.

Joey: Yeah.

Jessica: It means everything to Mom.

Joey: It's more than just a house to her. It's all she knows, really. This place is so full of ghosts -- some of them friendly, some not -- but almost all of them Mom's.

Jessica: We can't lose this house, Joey.

Joey: No, she's not going to. She's out there fighting for it right now, and she is not alone. I'm fighting with her, and we're going to do whatever it takes to keep this place. Whatever it takes.

Jessica: What if there's nothing that we can do?

Sam: Your Honor, there's more. Crimes with which Mr. Laurence has been charged strongly suggest that the two of them cut a bargain and that Mitch Laurence had planned on double-crossing Victor Lord.

Viki: Your Honor, my father as much as admitted that to me on his deathbed. He said he made a mistake, and it was very clear to me and to my brother, Todd Manning, that my father had every intention of rewriting his will, excluding Mitch Laurence entirely.

Sam: In light of all the evidence, Your Honor, we contest the will as filed and would like to have the prior will substituted in its place.

Judge: We are dealing with a very large and very complicated estate here, Mr. Rappaport. My calendar is absolutely full. I will- I'll turn this matter over to Judge Grafton. He'll sort this out for you.

Sam: In the meantime, I would like to request of the court that they issue a stay, keeping Mitch Laurence from taking possession of Llanfair.

Judge: I see no compelling reason to interrupt the status quo. I will issue a notice to Ms. Williamson on behalf of Mr. Laurence.

Sam: Thank you, Your Honor.

Viki: Thank you. Thank you, Sam.

Sam: This was just a battle. It's not the war.

Viki: I know. I know. But at least I have a home to go home to. Would you mind taking me back to Llanfair?

Asa: That damn Mitch Laurence. That man got me so riled up, I almost had a real heart attack.

Nigel: As opposed to the one you recently faked?

Asa: Nigel, I had to do something to get rid of Gretel. And if Laurence thinks he's going to get away with this, that man's got another thing coming.

Rae: Asa Buchanan -- you faked that heart attack? Oh, my God! Why, so I -- I would feel responsible for you?

Asa: I swear, Gretel, I would risk a real one if I could get rid of you.

Rae: Fine. Fine. You can have the divorce, Asa, as soon as you want it.

Asa: Yeah, I know. It'll only cost me 90% of everything I have. I told you already, that ain't going to fly.

Rae: No, no, no. You see, I'm going to -- I'm going to change the terms.

Asa: Hmm. That figures. All right, spit it out. What do I have to give you now?

Rae: Nothing.

Joey: Mom? Is there -- is there anything I can do?

Viki: Yeah, there is. You can go to the community center and help the people who need help there. And you, darling, can go upstairs, do some studying. I know you have work to catch up on for your classes. Oh, come on; don't look at me like that. I'm fine. Really, okay? I'm fine. We're all fine. The will is being contested. Sam is convinced there won't be a problem. Give me a hug. Off you go. Go.

Jessica: Okay. I'll see you later.

Viki: Yes.

Joey: Okay, talk to me.

Jessica: It's not that easy. Mitch hates Mom. He blames her for everything -- for when he lost everything. I'm afraid we might lose this place.

Joey: Like I said, we're going to fight for this together as a family, Jess.

Jessica: Yeah. Family's the key.

Joey: The key to what?

Jessica: I think there is a way we can fight Mitch.

Viki: This is my house. This is my home. And no one is going to take it away from me. Not now, not ever.

Mitch: You have no business in my house. Leave right now.

Todd: No. I'm not going anywhere. I've got nothing left to lose.

Stay tuned for scenes from the next "One Life to Live"

On the next "One Life to Live" --

Troy: We are nothing to each other.

Lindsay: Yes, we are.

Natalie: You don't care about me at all, so could you just please stop pretending?

Mitch: If you do this, you'll be nothing but a murderer.

Todd: Maybe that's what you deserve.
