Blair: My little girl's not going anywhere. You want a bargaining chip with Todd? You take me.
Sam: That's a D.N.A. File.
Bo: There's another one on Natalie Buchanan.
Natalie: What about Mitch? He could be here any minute.
Cristian: You can't go anywhere, not on this leg.
Mitch: I'll have the girl here in a few days. Keep him alive.
Natalie: I was getting worried.
Cristian: Yeah, it took longer to dig the car out than I thought.
Natalie: Oh, I'm glad that's just all it was.
Cristian: You don't have to worry about Mitch. He's not out there, and he's not coming any time soon. I just heard on the radio that there's another storm on the way. It's already starting to snow.
Natalie: Ok, well, we better get out of here then, before the snow covers the roads.
Cristian: Natalie, you don't look so good. Are you in pain?
Todd: Yeah, yeah. You know what? You do have a problem, because I told you to call me back in 15 minutes, and it's been, like, 15 minutes and 20-some-odd seconds. Now, you go out and you get some answers and you call me back in 15 minutes!
Todd: That's, like, 900 seconds. In case there's any confusion, why don't you start counting backwards now.
Todd: Starr, what are you doing up? Jack's still sleeping, right?
Starr: Yeah. Did you find Mom yet?
Todd: No, I'm working on it.
Starr: Dad, she's been gone all night.
Todd: Yeah, yeah. No, I know. I know she's been gone all night. She'll be fine.
Starr: Why won't you call the police?
Todd: Because I told you, no cops, no cops. I told you that.
Starr: Dad, I'm getting really worried that that bad guy did something bad to Mom.
Blair: Hey! Come on, now. Untie me! Do you hear me? Are you there?
Mitch: No need to shout. I'm right here, darling.
Blair: Where am I?
Mitch: Well, have a look.
Blair: What -- what is this place?
Mitch: Center stage of your latest drama. Let's hope your leading man's up to the part, or else this play may turn out to be a tragedy.
Todd: Starr, I've got everything under control. Your mother will be back soon.
Starr: Why won't you just call the police?
Todd: Because the police don't care about her the way that we do. They just -- they want to make an arrest. They don't care even if she gets hurt.
Starr: But what if she already is?
Todd: She's not.
Starr: Dad, it's been a really long time since we heard from them. We don't know whether she's hurt or not!
Todd: She's not hurt.
Starr: What if she's dead?
Todd: Hey, you shut up! You shut up right now! Don't you ever say that!
Todd: Starr, I'm -- I'm sorry. Oh --
Blair: This is a little over the top, even for you, isn't it?
Mitch: Well, I think it's a nice touch.
Blair: Yeah, if you have to resort to kidnapping women, tying them up to get what you want, I'd say you've lost your touch.
Mitch: Well, you weren't asked.
Blair: What's wrong, Mitch? A few years go by, women don't fall at your feet and worship you? I understand.
Mitch: You're wasting your time, dear.
Blair: The truth hurts, huh?
Mitch: You know what? You promised to give me your cooperation, and all I am getting from you is attitude. Maybe I should take one of your children, hmm?
Blair: No, no! No, no. Please -- please don't hurt my children. Just call Todd. He'll do anything for me.
Mitch: Well, we'll see about that.
Todd: Starr, listen --
Mitch: Good morning.
Todd: Took you long enough.
Mitch: Sleep well?
Todd: You know, not so good. Somebody locked my kid in a closet. Where's Blair?
Mitch: Here with me.
Todd: I'm going to talk to her.
Mitch: Let's not confuse who's in charge here. Understood?
Todd: Well, I need to know that she's all right. Is that understood?
Mitch: Hmm -- fair enough.
Todd: Blair, where are you?
Blair: Todd --
[Gagged Blair yells]
Mitch: I'm sorry. She can't talk right now.
Todd: What do you want?
Mitch: Oh, not much. Just a simple exchange -- one wife for another.
Mitch: Bring me Natalie.
Cristian: You're burning up.
Man: Where is he? Where is Laurence?
Mitch: Now, here's the question of the day, Todd -- where is Natalie?
Todd: How am I supposed to know that?
Mitch: Well, find out if you want to see your wife again.
Mitch: Well, that's your problem.
Todd: If anything happens to Blair, it's going to be your problem.
Mitch: Oh, I have full confidence that you'll do what I want you to do and give me what I want you to give me. You have to if you want to see Blair again.
Jessica: Hey, Joey.
Joey: Jess. What are you doing here so early?
Jessica: I thought you could use an extra hand.
Joey: Yeah. Actually more like 500 of them. That girl Flash was supposed to be here already.
Jessica: The girl that stole the money from the donation box? Oh, Joey, you're never going to see her again.
Joey: You think I'm crazy, huh, thinking I can make a difference?
Jessica: No. I just don't think you should count on her coming back.
Joey: You know, I was out walking this morning, all through Angel Square, and I saw a lot of those kids who were here last night.
Jessica: Pretty messed up, huh?
Joey: Yeah, some of them are, really bad. But others, it's just like -- it's like they just need a break, you know? I mean, look at this.
Jessica: Somebody left this here? A kid?
Joey: One of the kids' kids. She must have been no more than 15, and she had a baby.
Jessica: That's not much younger than I was.
Joey: Right, but Mom and Dad didn't kick you out.
Jessica: Her parents did?
Joey: She goes from shelter to shelter with a baby. And then sometimes she stays in an abandoned building with all the other kids. God, there's just so many of them.
Jessica: Maybe you can't save them all.
Flash: All right, Rev, I'm here. You happy?
[Max turns music off]
Max: Al. Al, wake up.
Al: Five more minutes.
Max: No. Wake up!
Al: Dad. What are you doing here?
Max: Well, I phoned, you didn't pick up. I knocked, you didn't answer.
Al: What time is it? Oh -- man! I got to finish this paper.
Max: Looks like you pulled an all-nighter.
Al: Yeah, I -- I had to.
Max: Right. Because of this? It says you're flunking out.
Todd: Yeah -- no, no, no, you've been a big help. You know, I really want to thank you for doing absolutely nothing -- nothing!
Todd: Yeah, hey -- Jessica.
Jessica: Hey, are you there?
Todd: I need to talk to Viki.
Jessica: She left for New York this morning. Ben was transferred to a hospital there.
Todd: Yeah, right, don't care about that. Where's Natalie?
Jessica: I don't know.
Todd: Well, did Viki say anything about her?
Jessica: All she did, that she went away somewhere with Cristian.
Todd: Yeah, but did she mention where she was going?
Jessica: Why do you want to know?
Todd: Just answer the question, will you?
Jessica: Is there something going on?
Todd: You know what? Forget it.
Todd: Hey. Starr, listen, I'm -- you know what? What I said before, about how I was sorry? I really -- I meant that, and I shouldn't have yelled at you. It's just that I've been really edgy. And I know I shouldn't have taken it out on you. Not you. I mean, you camped out with me last night. And without you, I would have completely lost it last night. I'll tell you what -- you come out right now and I will never, ever yell at you again, I promise.
Starr: You mean it?
Todd: Yeah. Why wouldn't I?
Starr: Because Mom says when you make promises you always break them.
Todd: Why are you still mad at me?
Starr: Because of what you did. If it wasn't for you, you and Mom would have still been married and none of this would have happened. She would have never been taken away by the bad guy.
Todd: Didn't know what else to do.
Starr: Now none of us have her.
Todd: But we will.
Starr: How do you know?
Todd: Because I know. The guy that called before -- that was the creepy guy, you know, and -- your mother's fine.
Starr: For sure?
Todd: Yeah. Oh, I heard her voice and everything. Now it's just a matter of finding out where she is.
Starr: How are you going to do that?
Todd: Well, I have a few ideas, but I'm going to need your help.
Todd: Well, I need for you to help Heddy take care of Jack, and then some guys that work for me -- they're going to come here and they're going to take all of you over to your Aunt Vikki's and you're going to stay there for a little while, all right? Now, here's the thing -- you can't tell anybody about what's happening, ok?
Starr: Because of the police?
Todd: That's right.
Starr: Dad, I'm scared.
Todd: You don't need to be scared. I'm going to make sure that nobody gets hurt. Deal?
Starr: Deal -- if you find Mom.
Todd: Well, I'm going to bring your mother home. I know I break a lot of promises, but there's one promise that I'm going to keep.
Mitch: I'm sorry. Could you repeat that?
Blair: Why do you want Todd to bring you Natalie Buchanan?
Mitch: Actually, it's Natalie Laurence. She's my wife, you know.
Blair: Well, then why don't you get her yourself?
Mitch: That's not your concern, is it?
Blair: You got me tied up here in some creepy place with you. Yeah, I would say it's my concern.
Mitch: What, you don't care for the setting?
Blair: The what?
Mitch: These sets. They're from an Edgar Allan Poe story, "The Masque of the Red Death." It's the last play ever performed here.
Blair: I thought you were only into biblical stories.
Mitch: Oh, you have so much to learn about me.
Blair: I'll pass.
Mitch: See, the story is about a terrible plague called the red death and a prince who tries to defy it. To accomplish this, he invites all his loyal followers into his castle for protection.
Blair: I don't want to hear this.
Mitch: Don't you want to know how it turns out? The ending is really smashing.
Mitch: Now, what he does is he throws a lavish masquerade ball. At midnight, just as the clock strikes 12:00, a stranger arrives wearing The Masque of the Red Death. He is, in fact, death itself. Now, the prince who tried to avoid the plague must allow it into his home, and it claims him and all the others as well, because no one -- no one escapes death.
Joey: Hey, why don't we get this place cleaned up. Maybe we can help out some of these kids around here.
Flash: Look, you guys can't, all right? Unless you can find them some better parents or a family that loves them. You know what? This is really turning into a big waste of my time.
Joey: Hey. Listen, why don't you round up some of your friends, bring them back here. Anybody who helps out gets a meal on me.
Flash: I'll see what I can do.
Joey: You do that.
Jessica: I hope you know what you're taking on here.
Cristian: You need a doctor.
Natalie: We can't get out of here.
Cristian: Well, then, we get one to come up here.
Natalie: Who are you calling?
Cristian: Your Uncle Bo.
Natalie: No, don't bother him, Cristian. Come on, we can take care of this here.
Cristian: Yeah, hi. This is Cristian Vega. Cristian Vega. If you can hear me at all, I need to speak to Comm. Buchanan. It's urgent.
Natalie: Cristian, you're making too big of a deal out of this.
Cristian: Natalie, do you know what could happen if we let this go too far?
Cristian: Hey, Commissioner. This is Cristian.
Bo: Hello? Anybody there?
Cristian: Natalie needs help. She needs a doctor.
Man: Where is she? Why hasn't Laurence brought her here?
Blair: Somebody help me! Help!
Mitch: If someone screams in the middle of nowhere, I wonder, does it make a sound?
Blair: Where am I?
Mitch: Miles from any hope of rescue.
Blair: Todd will find me.
Mitch: Yeah, well, you better hope he does.
Blair: He said he would, didn't he?
Mitch: Mm-hmm. Well, then we have nothing to worry about, do we?
Blair: I told you --
Mitch: As long as he holds up his end of the bargain, then I'll hold up mine, because I really don't want to have to hurt such a beautiful damsel in distress. You really are so much like your cousin Cassie.
Blair: That's right. We both despise you.
Mitch: You better hope this is your husband. And please, remember your babies. Yes.
Nurse: Mr. Laurence?
Mitch: Yeah. What's happening?
Nurse: He's been asking for you. He wants to know where you are.
Mitch: Well, I'll be there when I get there -- soon.
Blair: It's so -- it all makes -- it all makes sense. He put you up to this, didn't he?
Mitch: Who put me up to --
Blair: Todd! Todd!
Blair: You're in this with him!
Blair: It's not funny!
Mitch: No, it's not funny. If you think he's capable of putting you through something like this, then we have one hell of a problem.
Todd: Commissioner, you got a minute?
Bo: What do you want?
Todd: All right, well, Viki asked me to keep tabs on Natalie while she was out of town, and, you know, I must have wrote down the number and put it somewhere, and -- I don't know. If you could just tell me where Natalie is, then --
Bo: You know, it's funny, Manning, but Viki never said a word to me about you.
Todd: Oh, I guess she doesn't tell you everything after all. Bet that keeps you up at night.
Bo: You can take a hike. I'm not telling you a damn thing.
Todd: You know, she's my family. I have a right to know.
Bo: Well, since when does family mean anything to you?
Todd: Since now. Where is she?
Bo: What the hell is going on?
Max: Why didn't you tell me you're flunking out?
Al: Dad, I have everything under control.
Max: They just sent this a couple days ago.
Al: Yeah, I know. I got it. I went right to my professors. I spoke to them. They said that they would give me a little time to, you know, bring my grades back up.
Max: Good, good.
Max: But you haven't told me how you got here in the first place.
Al: Well, Dad, you know, there's been a lot of stuff going on, you know? The move was a pretty big thing.
Max: Yeah. Oh, God. That was a while ago.
Al: Yeah, and the thing with Jessica? You know, that was pretty big, and --
Al: Yeah, Jen, exactly! Exactly. But you know what? You don't have to worry, Dad, because I am 100% over her.
[Al turns volume up]
Max: Are you sure?
Al: Yeah, Dad. How many times do I have to keep telling you this?
Max: Oh, every time you tell me, she ends up back into your life somehow.
Al: What you talking about?
[Max lowers music]
Max: You rescued her from the storm, didn't you?
Al: Yeah, Dad. What was I supposed to do, leave her there to die?
Max: No, no. You did the right thing. I'm proud of you. It's just -- I don't want to see you get sucked back in by her again.
Marcie: Somebody order food? This is all I could carry. The rest is coming later.
Joey: That was me.
Marcie: Oh, hi, reverend. I mean -- or is it curate?
Joey: It's just Joey.
Marcie: Ok, Joey.
Joey: Have you met Jessica?
Marcie: We've met.
Joey: You know my sister?
Marcie: He's your brother?
Jessica: And Natalie's, too.
Marcie: I better go.
Joey: Hey, wait. Aren't you forgetting something? The bill?
Marcie: Oh. So, this is where you spend most of your time?
Joey: Yeah, a lot of it. Say, you know what? We're always looking for volunteers. Interested?
Marcie: Me? Working here with you? Oh, well, sure!
Joey: Great. Come by anytime.
Marcie: Yeah? Ok. Sure. Oh.
Joey: Look out for that.
Joey: Not one of your best friends?
Jessica: Oh, no, she's best friends with Jen. And after what Jen did to Natalie and Cristian --
Joey: Right, gotcha, gotcha. Natalie's pretty lucky to have you for a sister.
Jessica: You're really going to like her.
Joey: I wish I already would have met her.
Jessica: I wish you had, too. You know, you could have really helped her. She was a lot like these kids.
Flash: All right, where's the food?
Joey: Work first. Then food.
Flash: Hey, we' h hungry.
Joey: Then quit wasting time. We need all the blankets put in the hamper over there, and then all the tables and chairs need to be wiped down. And you get to mop.
Flash: I don't mop.
Joey: Then you don't get free food.
Flash: Feeling a little out of place, princess?
Jessica: I'm just here to help.
Flash: So you think you can get your hands a little dirty and save the world?
Jessica: It's not about me.
Flash: It's not about me, either. I am nobody's charity case.
Jessica: I didn't say that you were.
Flash: You were thinking it.
Mitch: Come on, just one little grape. Look, you have to eat something. If you a Todd are on the outs, we could here for quite some while.
Blair: I told you, Todd loves me and he'll do anything to get me back, even make it look like that I'm in danger so he can come and play the big hero and save me.
Mitch: My, you two have some serious -- what is it they say? -- What is it? -- Issues, that's it.
Blair: You're one to talk.
Mitch: Oh, I'm simply been taking action to get my wife back.
Blair: So is Todd.
Mitch: Yes, well, he'd better, hadn't he?
Blair: You really don't know who you're dealing with, do you? You don't want Todd Manning as an enemy.
Mitch: Ooh, I'm terrified.
Blair: You should be, because he doesn't play by the rules.
Mitch: Finally, a worthy adversary.
Blair: And nothing will stop him.
Bo: Come on, Manning, let's hear it. Why are you so interested in finding Natalie?
Todd: What, a guy can't check up on his niece?
Bo: What's in it for you?
Cristian: Commissioner, it's Cristian. Can you hear me this time?
Bo: Yeah, I can hear you. Hold on a second. I got to take this call.
Todd: Police business?
Bo: Wait outside.
Bo: Yeah, Cristian, look, I can barely hear you. What's going on?
Cristian: Natalie's sick. She needs a doctor.
Bo: Hey, look, you're going to have to talk up a lot louder.
Sam: Hey, I'm here to check on my daughter, Jen Rappaport, and the status of the charges against Mitch Laurence.
Officer: The commissioner's waiting until she can tell us some more.
Todd: What did Mitch Laurence do to your daughter?
Sam: It's none of your concern, Todd.
Todd: Well, it is my concern if I make it my concern.
Sam: Hey, by the way, how's Blair doing? I've called her a few times and she hasn't returned those calls.
Todd: Gee, I don't know, because she dumped me, see? Because of you.
Sam: Oh, right. Ok.
Sam: Yeah, hi. I'm checking on the status of Jen Rappaport. I wonder how she's doing..
Bo: I just got a call from Cristian Vega. I want you to go back up to the lodge and check on them, ok? There might be a problem.
Officer: I'm on my way.
Sam: Hey, Bo, you got a minute?
Bo: Yeah, sure, Sam. Come on in.
Girl: What's with the sorority girl?
Second girl: Who knows?
Flash: She's a Buchanan, which is all she needs.
Jessica: So, school out today?
Flash: Not in school.
Jessica: Where did you used to go?
Flash: Not anywhere around here.
Jessica: So, are you from Llanview?
Flash: Why do you care?
Jessica: Sorry. I come from a long line of journalists. It's like second nature to ask questions.
Flash: What, so, you guys are a bunch of reporters or something?
Jessica: We own some papers, too, yeah.
Flash: Do you work at any of them?
Jessica: Well, not right now, but I'm studying journalism at Llanview U.
Flash: Why even bother? It's not like you're ever going to need a job.
Jessica: But I'm going to get one. You see, we're crazy like that, you know? We like to get out there.
Joey: Hey. How's it going?
Flash: I can't remember the last time that I had this much fun.
Joey: Good, because there's plenty more where this came from.
Girl: This sucks.
Second girl: It's better than doing some creep in the alley for lunch.
Flash: So can we eat now?
Joey: Yeah, you guys have earned it. Have at it.
Joey: And I will see you tomorrow.
Flash: Do I get another meal out of it?
Joey: If you stick around long enough.
Joey: That wasn't so bad, was it?
Jessica: I guess.
Joey: Something happen?
Jessica: I heard two girls talking about turning tricks in an alleyway for food.
Joey: It wasn't Flash, was it?
Jessica: No, no, it wasn't Flash. It was one of the other girls. You know, you look at them and it makes you think. We're so lucky that we came from the family that we did.
Joey: That's right makes you wish that everybody had what we have.
Jessica: Flash was totally giving me attitude today.
Joey: Don't let her get to you.
Jessica: You know, but maybe she sees something that I don't. Maybe I'm not really part of the scene like I think I am. I'm just here trying to get my hands dirty. You know, Antonio Vega was making fun of me in the same way. He called me a princess.
Joey: Hey, you are not some dilettante out here playing with the poor people. You've always cared, and you've always helped.
Jessica: I guess so. Listen, am I done here? Can I go?
Joey: Yeah, yeah. I think that we're good for tonight.
Jessica: Good. I could really use some fresh air.
Al: Dad, I am not going to get sucked back in by Jen again, ok? That's just stupid.
Max: You told me that before, Al, and then you end up getting back in bed with her -- twice.
Al: So I made a mistake, Dad. You never made a mistake?
Max: Oh, yeah. Look where it got me. Do you want to be here, too?
Al: That won't happen because I am nothing like you.
Max: Ouch. What's that -- where's that coming from, huh? This? Al, it says you're flunking! What do you want from me? Am I supposed to say it's ok?
Al: No, you're not supposed to say it's ok, all right? It's not ok, but I'm handling it, Dad.
Max: I hope you are. I want to believe you.
Al: Yeah, well, I can't do anything with you standing around watching me, ok? So I have a paper to do, if you don't mind --
Max: Yeah, yeah, yeah, ok, all right, I'm leaving. But this -- this is not over. You're my son. I worry about you.
[Al turns volume up]
Cristian: And now I'm not getting a signal at all.
Natalie: It's all right, Cristian.
Cristian: No, it's not all right, Natalie. We need to get you to a doctor. But I don't know if you should be moved. So what do you think? Should we stay here and wait it out, or should we take our chances in the storm?
Blair: Todd is going to ht you down. And when he finds you, he is going to tear you apart.
Mitch: Now, you don't believe that. He's let you down so many times. And you're afraid he will again.
Blair: No. You are afraid. I can smell it. I don't know why you want Natalie, but for whatever it is, your plan's gone all wrong. And you need Todd. You need Todd bad. Otherwise, you wouldn't go to all this trouble.
Mitch: No, it's no trouble. In fact, it's my pleasure.
Al: Oh. I am so happy you're back. What are you doing here?
Jessica: I really needed a friend.
Al: Oh, tell me about it.
Jessica: What's going on?
Al: Huh? Oh, you don't want to hear about what's going on with me.
Jessica: Yes, I do. Come on.
Al: My Dad and I just got into it.
Jessica: Over what?
Al: I'm pretty much flunking everything, and my Dad thinks it's because of Jen.
Jessica: Well, is it?
Al: No. No.
Jessica: Come on --
Al: Come on, you know I'm over her. You know that I'm over her.
Al: Yes. You know what? Enough about me. Let's talk about you. Come on. So, what's new?
Jessica: The same.
Al: You get to see your Dad?
Jessica: Which one, Clint or Mitch?
Al: Man, I'm really sorry that things got so messed up for you.
Jessica: You know what? Some people have it way worse than I do, like these kids I saw at the community center this morning.
Joey: What's up?
Boy: Hey. Thanks for the food, Rev.
Joey: Hey, thanks for helping out. Listen, are you friends with Flash?
Boy: I don't really hang with her.
Joey: Who does she hang with?
Boy: She mostly sticks by herself.
Joey: Do you know where she's from?
Boy: No. Why?
Joey: No reason. Just curious.
Mitch: Mmm. Well, if I was worried, I'm certainly not now, because I know that little old Todd is going to want to have back what I just sampled. That boy would probably do anything for the juicy taste of those lips.
Blair: What -- what -- what are you doing? What are you doing?
Mitch: The countdown begins.
Stay tuned for scenes from the next "One Life to Live." .
On the next "One Life to Live" --
Jen: They have to stop Mitch Laurence. He's going to do something terrible to Jessica and Natalie.
Bo: What are you doing with Natalie and Jessica's medical records?
Cristian: Natalie, we can't stay here.
Nurse: Hold on, sir. He'll be here soon.
Blair: Who's there?
