nina: Hello, daughter of mine. It's been a long time since I visited. I am so sorry.

[ Breathes sharply ] Just -- I just needed a little breather from this town, these people. From life, I guess. But never from you. I hope that much is clear. Clear. That really hasn't been my forte these past few months. Oh, I don't -- I don't know what I'm doing anymore.

The moonbeam that fell from above like a tear it's so strange, you know? I was on this mission to find myself, and instead... I found someone else. Nina? Chase, do you have a -- what's wrong?

[ Sighs ] It's my legs. I can't walk. I don't understand. Chase's muscles were already in atrophy from being in bed the past few weeks. Okay, but that's to be expected, right? Yes, but the... the toxin may have caused some nerve damage. Coupled with the atrophy, chase is unable to move his legs. So...what does this mean? Right now, I can't feel anything below my waist.

[ Monitor beeping ] Is he paralyzed? I worry that if we go public with what we found today -- that judge carson has a pattern of biased sentencing? There could be retaliation. Okay. Carson wants to come at me -- bring it. Not just you, shawn. I-it -- it could be our loved ones on the outside. We just need to be prepared. Alexis, we're talking about a bunch of city employees and bureaucratic red tape. How serious of a threat do you think this could be? Mm. Ms. Lansing-davis, right? Alexis davis is your mother? Uh, yes. And you presided over my mother's sentencing. Judge...? Carson. Uh, right. Uh, this is tj, my partner. He is an intern at general hospital. Impressive. Nice to meet you, tj. You, too. I understand you'll be working as an ada in robert scorpio's office. I guess we'll be bumping into each other more often. Terry! Biz! It feels like it's been forever.

[ Laughs ] It's been two days. Like I said -- forever.

[ Both laugh ] Being head of oncology must keep you very busy.

Interim head of oncology, but they've been pressuring me to make it official.

[ Gasps ] That's fantastic! Uh, isn't it? Normally, yes. I love it here in port charles, but the hospital's future is still in question. And let's be real -- I don't exactly get along with the chief of staff. Yeah, well, you're not alone.

[ Laughs ] Although I have a story for you -- hey! Hey. Any updates? Uh, not yet. No, but if the board called a meeting with all the department heads, it's got to be about cyrus's replacement, right? Do you have any idea who it is? No. Mnh-mnh. But I have an idea of someone who does. Hi. You remember what that is? A good time? Vaguely.

[ Chuckles ] Top down, wind in my hair. Oh, so, what -- now it's a convertible? Obviously. Maybe I'll take you for a ride, if you're not too scared. Speed doesn't scare me. Even with me behind the wheel? I said you were an awful driver. I didn't say you were unsafe. Oh, I am definitely unsafe.

[ Footsteps approach ] Carly: Jason. We need to talk about the novak situation.

[ Both sigh ] You know what? Um, I'll be at the metro court. I'll take care of it. Oh, hold on, carly. Carly, wait. Is it important? Is it time-sensitive? Message received. This is clearly not something the two of you can talk about in front of me.

Hey, uh, don't you have that meeting? I can skip it. But I shouldn't, and I won'T. Just text me if you need anything.

[ Monitor beeping ] S ] Talk to me.

[ Breathes deeply ] The nerve damage should repair itself over time.

[ Breathes sharply ] So it's not permanent. Hopefully not, no. But time is of the essence, apparently. What does that mean? If I have any shot at walking again, I have to relearn to do it in the next few months. Peter: It was you that was supposed to be in that hospital bed fighting for his life. Finn: This is not about anna anymore! Oh, on the contrary. The rules were very clear. She was only to get the antidote if she didn't disclose my involvement. She broke the rules! No! Where do you think you're going, man? You're not walking out -- you're not walking out on me! Get off of me! Aaaah!

[ Thudding ] I'm not getting anything. No pulse, no breath. I think he's gone.

[ Elevator doors close ] Finn:

I just killed the one person

that could save chase's life. I hope I'm not interrupting. I-I-I saw you in the parking lot when I came in, so... yeah. Are you here to visit...? My -- my dad. Your dad. Thank you. Thank you so much for that visit with wiley. I had a really good time, just -- I really appreciate it. Yeah, he had a good time, too. Yeah. I was just really, to be honest, surprised by your sudden about-face. We -- I mean, we talked about this. No, I know we talked about it, but I also spoke with jax, and I know that he has been an advocate for this -- you know, having more access to wiley. Mm. But, michael, exactly how hard did he push you? There is a time element in play, yes.

[ Breathes deeply ] Well, it just so happens I have a meeting at the hospital, so you're in luck. But for future reference, carly, I'd rather be told, "you can't hear this," than be talked around. Thank you for the boxing lesson. Oh, and I'll let you know when the car comes in -- we can go for that ride.

[ Footsteps depart ] "For future reference"? I'm going to find out from laura. Mm-hmm. Hi. Hi.

[ Breathes sharply ] Hi. Hi. I didn't think you were coming here. Neither did I. We would have saved you a spot. Oh, that's okay, Terry. Thank you. I-I'm -- I'm more comfortable in the back of the room.

[ Scoffs ] No one will call on me there.

[ Chuckles ] I'll, um... I'll see you around. Yeah, I'll see you. Mm.

[ Breathes sharply ] What was that all about?

[ Chuckles ] Oh, well, uh, his brother is... biz... ...still recovering and -- ...everyone at the hospital knows about that. I mean, what's going on between you and dr. Finn? Do you have any intel on who the board is naming as cyrus's replacement? I do. My mother gave me the scoop. Okay. So am I popping champagne, updating my résumé, maybe? Uh, well, let's just say... it's going to be interesting. Would you like to sit? Oh, no, no, thank you. I just came to grab a quick coffee and go. So, did you take the bar in february? Oh, no, I'm scheduled for this july. I just finished law school. Talk about impressive. An offer with a da before even graduating. Stop. Hey, if you won't brag about it, I will. I commend you, molly. Taking a job with the da's office even after your mother had been sentenced to prison. No one would have blamed you if you lost faith in the system. I mean, come on. We're not talking about gun-toting mobsters here. No, we're talking about people in power, and people in power can be -- usually want to stay in power. By any means necessary. Mm. There was this incident that I heard of where a judge was being called into question by a defense attorney, and the next thing you know, the defense attorney's family's being harassed by local authorities, and -- and friends and family applied for permits and were denied. And that's the least of it. So I think we should just alert, you know, molly and tj to all of this. What do you think? Quiet route or -- or loud route? Neither. Let's just let this whole thing drop.

Here's any chance of retaliation against tj...

[ Sighs ] ...We don't do anything at all. Please tell me that you're joking. Do I look like I'm joking? Even if we backchannel this, there's no way to keep carson from finding out what we're doing. She's well-respected, well-connected, right? Yes, but -- so, I don't need to give tj another reason to be harassed. I can maintain in here. I only have a few years left on my sentence. For a sentence that you shouldn't even be serving for a crime that you did not commit. And you think is the first time that's happened to someone who looks like me?

[ Scoffs ] No. And it won't be the last. Well, I'll leave you to your coffees. Nice to officially meet you, molly. Same here. You too, tj. Good luck at the hospital. Thank you. And good luck with the bar. If you should ever have any questions or need any pointers on case law, look me up. I'll be happy to help you out. Thank you. That -- that's very generous, judge carson. You have a good day. Wow! A judge offering to take you under her wing? That is awesome. Is it? It was just really intense, working to save chase. Intense? How? Well, we had some disagreements. He requested that I be taken off the case. That obviously didn't last long. No. And, um... yeah, we ended up making a really good team. That kind of experience must have bonded you, huh? Yeah, you could say that. It's like one setback after another. Easy. I'm the one who should

[Chuckles] Be worrying, not you. And I'm not. Do you want to know why? Why? Because I've got this. I am going to walk again, willow. For you.

[ Monitor beeping ] Jax...

[ Chuckles ] Yeah, he definitely advocated for you to see wiley. But...there were other factors that went into that decision -- the main one being that willow and I -- we chose to trust you. Trust that you would follow the guidelines and the rules when it -- when it came to wiley. And, um, look...

[ Breathes sharply ] The reason that I-I approached you here was I, um -- I want to talk to you about nelle. I mean, we talked about it a little bit before, but I -- there's more to say. Of course. By all means. Look, you know what nelle did to me. And to willow and to wiley and my mom, brook lynn -- I mean, the list goes on. And, look, h-how -- how you choose to feel about her and -- and make sense of the things that she did, that's -- that's up to you to figure out in your own time. Just -- I can't have you put any of that on wiley. Well, may I be so bold to ask you to do the same? Look, I don't want to pry into your personal business -- great. I appreciate that. Jason, come on. This isn't my first rodeo. Okay? I-I get it. You saved britt's life, you got shot, then she saved your life -- and you saved my life. You know what I mean. I'm not blind. Obviously, something's going on. C-ca-- w-we've been over this. But if you need to hear it again, yes, something is going on with me and britt, and it has nothing to do with you. Okay, I'm sorry, but I disagree, because right now, anything that affects you affects me.

judge carson seemed perfectly nice, didn't she? Yeah. And I meant what I said -- it was extremely generous of her to offer her guidance. So what's the problem? Well, it just feels kind of weird, you know? Considering, I mean, she's the judge who sentenced my mom. And, yes, I know that my mom pled guilty, and I should consider myself lucky that she only got three years. It was a lenient sentence. I know. It was. But, still, my mother is in prison because of judge carson's decision, and I don't know -- isn't that a conflict of interest? A man of color falsely convicted of a crime against a white woman -- this isn't new, alexis. I know, I -- which is why I want to help. How? Can you single-handedly fix centuries of institutional racism? No. But I can try. I mean, doesn't every little -- by the way, w-w-where was all this righteous indignation before you were in here with me? And before it affected someone you knew? I keep telling you to back off 'cause I don't think the risk is worth it for my son -- or your daughter, by the way. But you refuse. So do you even care what I want, huh? Or is this all just to feed your "savior complex"? That's not what this is. Really? Really. I can help you. I'm a lawyer, for god's sake. No, you're not. You're an inmate, just like me. I'm just hoping that you and willow will give me the same courtesy and not speak ill of nelle to wiley. Wiley doesn't even know who nelle is. Well, michael, eventually he will. Right. You're right. And we're preparing for that. It's -- it's --

[ Sighs ] It's going to be a long and -- and -- and careful process to do it in a way that wiley understands who his biological mother was -- a, uh...

[Inhales deeply] A troubled woman who did some terrible things -- and not take it on himself. We're actually, uh -- been meeting with kevin collins. Oh, you are? Yeah. Yeah. He helped us find a child psychologist. You know, someone we already have -- actually, uh, we have one lined up, so... the goal is to do this

[Sighs] In the best, gentlest way possible, so it's not some horrible secret that devastates wiley when it comes out, you know? He -- he won't -- he won't carry the burden of what nelle did. Yeah, I don't want that for him, either. Just -- I hope that, one day, at some point, I get the chance to talk to wiley about who I thought nelle could have been. Um, I mean, yeah, look...

[ Chuckles ] When wiley's 22 years old and his psychiatrist tells him that that's okay, then I'm fine with that. It's just right now, wiley's too young to understand anything other than that willow is his mom and that he loves her, and that's where he is, and that's -- that's where he's going to stay until we all collectively decide otherwise. I agree with you, 100%. I agree. Okay. I'm not here to rock the boat. I'm -- I'm not. Uh -- just the opposite. I-I'm -- I'm glad we're on the same page, then. Yeah. Take care, nina. Okay, michael. Do you remember that rock-climbing wall we never got to? The rock-climbing wall you were going to drag me to kicking and screaming?

[ Laughs ] Yeah, we're going. As soon as I am back on my feet. When Finn gets out of that meeting, I'm gonna have him set up physical therapy sessions. It's going to take a while, so I want to get started right away. Chase, you're still healing from the nerve damage. You need to be careful of pushing yourself too hard, too fast. I'm going to push myself just right. How's that? Anything that gets me to my goal. Rock-climbing? Marrying you again. In the quartermaine rose garden with a -- with a ceremony and a reception in front of all the people that care about us. And I'm not gonna be wheeling myself down the aisle. No way. We are going to be walking... hand-in-hand. Look, whether or not it was the right move...

[ Sighs ] ...To force you to escape, I did it because we're in this together. I know we've always been in it together, but since Sonny died, everything is different. Am I wrong? No, you're not wrong. Yeah, and this -- this isn't a normal business. Hell, it's not even a business at all. It's -- it's a family, jason. And everything that that means, right? The protection, the planning, the danger. I had no idea how hard that was. But we're in this together -- you and me. So can you see how concerning it might be when you come back from being on the run with britt -- no -- no, I came back because you called me for help, which is exactly what you should have done. I said I would handle it, and I did handle it. Yes, you did. You showed up -- guns a-blazing, on the pier -- and you saved us, like always, except this time, you're connected to someone that I barely know. And she really seems important to you. Is she? Yes. She is.

[ Indistinct conversations ]

[ Scoffs ] She made it. Mnh. For a second, I thought maybe we'd be the ones to get to write her up. Oh, believe me -- I have a laundry list of complaints about britt, but she believed in jason when I didn'T. She stood by jake's father when I didn'T. So, what am I supposed to do with that?

[ Scoffs ] I think it's impressive that britt saved jason. Yeah, but -- but you can be grateful to britt and still not like the way she runs the hospital. Two things can be true.

[ Chuckles ]

[ Footsteps approach ] Good afternoon, everyone. I know you're all curious about what was decided by the board this morning. The revelations about mr. Renault were troubling, to say the least. And we took swift action in removing him and finding a replacement that would make this board, this hospital, and this city proud. A potential candidate was suggested by none other than dr. Lesley webber, and it is with great pride that I share that this candidate was confirmed unanimously. Someone who has a long-tenured history with the hospital, who we know will embrace this new role with gusto, not to mention professionalism and competency. Please welcome your new chairperson of the general hospital board, dr. Monica quartermaine.

[ Cheers and applause ]

[ Applause ] Thank you. Congratulations, monica. No one is more deserving. Oh, thank you, laura, and thank all of you for a really warm reception. I can't tell you how honored I am to be back, working at general hospital. I have missed walking around these halls so much in the last few months. But I wanted to let you know that now, as chairperson, I shall still remain as dedicated and devoted as ever. And I will spend every day proving to you that I -- I am worthy of taking general hospital into the future, but also honoring its past.

[ Applause ] Okay, um, she's important to you. And? She's important to you how? Uh, I mean, what does that mean?

[ Sighs ] I-it just means that I can't tell you any more than "yes." Jason, I just went over all the reasons we need to be a team. We -- carly, we are a team. So I need to know what's going on.

[ Sighs ] You -- y-you just asked me if britt was important to me, and I told you that she was. I-I can't tell you why or how. It's just something I can't talk about. I get privacy, okay? And you guys can have all the privacy you want. I just really need to know what I'm dealing with here. Nothing... is going to change between us, okay? Like you said, you and me -- we're a team, no matter what. It's gonna stay that way. Do you think it was the right move, taking the job with da scorpio?

[ Door closes ] You know where I stand on that. Well, just go through it with me again.

[ Sighs ] First and foremost -- I support you no matter what. I know. But do I think that it will be hard changing the system from within? Yeah. But it has to be possible, right? If anyone can do it, it's you, molls. And your mother. I mean, she walks that line every day. She tries to. Remember when I was accused of shoplifting?

Wrongly accused, yes. Well, my mom -- she had to navigate being both a mother and the commissioner, and I think she would be the first to tell you that she did not succeed at either. It wasn't her cross to bear, but... when you put yourself on the front lines, it ends up that way. I'm sorry. I'm sorry, too. It's just, sometimes, I get so caught up in the rightness and wrongness of something that I forget that there's actual people involved. And, you know, real people need to just get on with their lives, regardless of what outcome I get them and... it's a blind spot, and it's -- it's not the first time that it's been pointed out to me, but I'll try to make it the last. And you're right -- I'm not a -- I'm not a lawyer. No, I-I shouldn't have said that. No, it's true. But as a person advising you, I need to respect your wishes, so... if you want to hit the pause button for a while, we'll hit the pause button, okay?

[ Footsteps approach ] Back to your cell, butler. I've got permission to be here for a few more hours. Not anymore. Your library privileges have been revoked. Why?! Say goodbye to ms. Davis. You're not going to be seeing each other much anymore.

[ Applause ] Thank you. I am 100% committed to bringing general hospital back to its former glory, and part of that is reversing some of the questionable decisions that my predecessor made. So, effective immediately, bobbie spencer and epiphany johnson are returned to their positions at general hospital. Oh, wow. Yes.

[ Applause ] Alright. Wonderful! Wait, have you told them the good news? Uh, yes, and bobbie has already got her clipboard out of storage.

[ Laughter ] And epiphany accepted graciously, but is not about to cut her cabo vacation short, so she will be joining us when she gets back. Well, who can blame her? 15 years has earned her every single one of those rollover vacation days. Yep.

[ Laughter ] So I guess, uh, that's about it. Uh, everybody, back to work.

[ Chuckles ] Welcome back, monica. Thank you. Thank you. Congratulations. Thank you.

[ Indistinct conversations ]

[ Laughter ] We're glad you're back. I -- I really missed you. I missed you, too. Now go tend to your brother. Yes, ma'am.

[ Chuckles ] Hey. Hi. Thank you. Monica. You know, I know that we did not overlap for very long, but I've heard nothing but wonderful things about your leadership. Oh, thank you. You are all in very good hands. Excellent hands.

[ Chuckles ] Monica is the best at what she does. Well, now she's on the other side, and it's the business side. So, watch your budget overruns. Oh, dear.

[ Laughter ] Um. [ Clears throat ] I guess it's time to face facts, huh? What facts are these, dr. Westbourne? I was the one who replaced you when you were fired. I sacked epiphany, per cyrus's request.

[ Chuckles ] Payback's a bitch, right? I guess you're going to replace me as chief of staff. Even though it stings and I didn't love everything that michael said, I do believe that michael is right, now. I am so thankful. Because of the way I've been acting lately, not a lot of people would have given me a second chance, but he did. And it feels really good, my sweet daughter, that wiley has a father that is so devoted to him. Wiley feels loved and cared for and safe. Oh, my god. This really delicate place of trust that we're in is going to be blown to hell if michael ever finds out that I knew that Sonny was alive and I didn't tell anyone for months. I don't know what I'm going to do. I'm not going to be able to see my grandson -- who is the only piece that I have of you left --

[Voice breaking] Ever again. I mean, the situation with britt is, uh... I mean, it's a reality. I'm not gonna -- I'm not gonna lie about it. I'm not gonna lie and say there -- you know, there might be some overlap -- when you call and you need my help, I could -- I could be with her. Well, you're allowed to have a relationship. Yeah, I don't even know if that's what it is. I don't know where it's going or if it's going or -- but it's something. I just don't know -- it's something, right? Yeah. Yeah. It's personal to britt. It's personal to me. Yes. And you can't talk to me about it. I -- I'm not trying to shut you out. Okay. Okay? Yeah. I-I-I just can't -- I can't go there. But you know me. I will honor my commitment to you, always. Nothing's going to change on my end. I mean, I can't speak for you, but for me -- what? How could you say that to me? Don't do it for me, chase. You should focus on getting better for yourself. I mean, can't it be both? You are everything to me, willow.

[ Door opens ] I...really need to work on my timing. Um... I'm sure there's a meeting I could go to. No, no. You have work to do.

[ Monitor beeping ] He's all yours. Okay. Willow... I love you. I love you, too.

[ Crying ] Well, I guess my assumption that I could just swoop in and make the justice system work for everyone was a little bit naive. Hey, you won't know until you try. Thank you. For what? For being my biggest champion. Always. And I'm yours, too. You know, that, right? If this mug doesn't say it all, I don't know what will.

[ Chuckles ] I was granted permission to use this library weeks ago, and I haven't had an incident since. I don't know what to tell you. The orders came from the warden himself. On what grounds were his privileges revoked? The same as they were granted -- at the discretion of the warden. You need a lawyer. Alexis -- no, shawn. I'll get you one by the end of day. You know, you're walking a fine line there, prisoner. Alright, everyone just settle down. Get off -- no, no! Let him go! Let him -- stand down, davis!

I know that Sonny has embraced his life in nixon falls. You know, I didn't really know him well when he was in port charles, but you could tell that he was tortured, you know? That he was burdened by his power, that he was haunted by all these tragedies, memories. But the Mike that I know -- he doesn't have any of those things. And I know that carly and -- and michael, from their perspective, what I'm doing is wrong -- probably everyone thinks what I'm doing is wrong. But when I look in Mike's eyes... he doesn't have any of that pain. He's happy. So maybe I'm not wrong. And it's not because I feel drawn to Sonny and it's not because I like this version better -- it's just because this man has been through hell, and...now that is all washed away.

[ Breathes sharply ] And he's happy. He's truly happy.

[ Voice breaking ] That's something that I never had a chance to give to you. Happiness.

[ Shouting ] Mccarthy, take him to his cell. You just initiated an altercation with an officer of the department of corrections of new york. I hope you enjoy solitary confinement. Hmph. Let's go, davis. Oh! Walk. Oh! Don't worry -- I won't hold it against you.

[ Chuckles ] Well, I haven't made any decision about the chief of staff, but I assure you, when I do, there won't be any prejudice involved. It's a -- it's a personal decision. And my ability to get along with that person is really paramount. Well, if the matter isn't settled, consider me, as well. I'm sorry? I'd like to throw my hat in the ring for chief of staff. Your spirits are high... for just getting a pretty serious diagnosis. I'm staying strong for willow. I can beat this, Finn. I have to. He said that our wedding would be the thing that gets him through this -- that he's going to walk for me. How...am I supposed to tell him the truth about us now? Nothing will ever change for me when it comes to you. I'm just tired of being the selfish one all the time.

[ Chuckling ] You know? What -- what does that mean? What are you talking about? People always see me as the one who puts impossible demands on you. Asking you to do everything. What do you -- what do you care what the rest of the world thinks? You have loved me. You have supported me. You have fought for me. You have been there for me since the day that we met. And you and I know... it goes both ways. Yes, I do a lot for you, but I wouldn't be standing here right now with the life that I have if it wasn't for you. And we are both up against it right now. For a lot of reasons. But we look weak, and if we don't deal with it, it's game over. So we're going to deal with it because we're in this together.

[ Voice breaking ] I really needed to hear that.

[ Sniffles, crying ]

[ Cellphone ringing ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Ringing stops ] Yeah.

[ Sighs ] When? Alright, I'll let you know the next steps. What happened? The docks have been hit. Somebody's making a move against us.

On the next "General Hospital" --
