Episode #14312 ~ Josslyn is suspicious. Shiloh rubs Alexis the wrong way. Valentine convinces Curtis to help him.

(This still needs extensive editing)

[ Breathes sharply ] Still hungry? I wouldn't say "no" to meatballs. Um...I think we still have olivia's leftover baked ziti. I... that sounds delicious. You're too kind. Oh, okay.

[ Footsteps ]

[ Silverware clinks ]

[ Sighs ] Oh, can I get a coffee, please? Thank you. You're not eating? I don't plan to be here long. Good. We're not gonna waste each other's time. Listen, I expect daily updates. I'm not working for you. What do you know about jasper jacks, nina's new boss? I know the name. Then you know he's a shark. And you know nina needs protection. The revised revenue projection for crimson is impressive. Thank you. Ad sales are up by 25% ever since we, um, announced ava jerome's cover story, and that is just the tip of the iceberg. My team is dreaming up new ways to monetize on ava's notoriety. Well, you can only stretch interest in the ava story for so long. What happens after that? Well, after that, my next issue will be even better. You sound confident. I thought you liked that about me. Ms. Tait?

[ Coughs ] -Hi. -Hi. You're early. The kids won't be back from their last art class for another half-hour. Well, the last day of school is a big deal. Charlotte's been talking about the awards ceremony all week. We thought we'd come try and lend a hand. Oh, that's so kind of you to offer, but I think I have it under control. It looks great. Well, at least take a breather and have a cupcake before the kids get back and devour them.

[ Chuckles ] Oh, you didn't have to go to all that trouble. Oh. [ Scoffs ] No, no, wait. We are just the delivery people. Yeah, aiden made these all by himself. -Yeah. -He wouldn't even let us help. No, apparently I'm not qualified to ice a cupcake. Mnh-mnh.

[ Laughs ] I'm gonna miss his baked goods. Almost as much as I'll miss the kids.

[ Cellphone rings ] Excuse me. Hi, ms. Miller. Willow, hi. Alright, you are calendared for the afternoon session, but there are two cases ahead of you, so I do not anticipate us being called before 3:00. I'll be there at 2:30. I'd prefer 2:00. Actually, 1:30. That'll give us time to go over our strategy. It's, um -- it's the last day of school. Willow, I cannot stress enough the importance of your timely presence in court today. No, I understand. I will absolutely be there. I just can't miss the kids' awards ceremony. I commend your dedication, but I'm gonna ask you to prioritize here. Today's hearing will make sure that shiloh never gets anywhere near your son. So be on time.

[ Breathes sharply ] I will be. See you soon.

[ Exhales sharply ] Alexis. What are you still doing here? I expected you to be long gone. My hearing ran over. Fine. I was hanging around here 'cause I wanted to run into you. What's your plan? To keep willow out of shiloh's cross hairs. You're gonna have to be a little more specific than that. No. Look, I understand that you are worried about brad and lucas, but being in on my strategy is not gonna -- it's not gonna give you any peace of mind. Just trust me. Shiloh has no legal avenue to prove he is biologically related to wiley. You hope. You know that walters plays fast and loose with the statutes, and he tends to make his own interpretations for the "best interests of the child." All this nervous energy is better spent unloading on dr. Byrne. Or vice versa. Or better yet, both. Diane! You know you want to. No, what I'm -- I'm simply offering to be someone to bounce your ideas off of. I don't need that. What I need is for you to leave so that shiloh does not walk in here and see the two of us with our heads together. Too late.

We actually had an ulterior motive for arriving early. Yeah, w-we didn't want to do this in front of all of the other parents. Lulu: Oh, um... here. It is the ultimate package -- four services and lunch.

[ Chuckles ] This is -- this is too much. For wrangling my kid all year? Not to mention nina. Actually, I think that falls short. No, and, honestly, we don't know what we would've done without you helping aiden through this difficult year. Hey, he toughed it out, and he will keep toughing it out until he finds his place. Well, he's a lot stronger now than he was at the beginning of the school year, and you played a big part in that. Yeah. He's more sure of himself. He's really coming into his own, and that's why this gift... well, let's just say we're working on something else. W-- there's this thing -- what? Oh, um, the other...thing. This. [ Chuckles ] Right, almost forgot. Don't drink it all in once place. Or alone. I'm sure chase would love to help. I'm sure. Well, thank you so much. Hopefully my appointment later will give me a reason to celebrate tonight.

[ Chuckles ] So, what business do you have with willow's attorney? I'm relaying my hard-earned knowledge of your depravity. And I'm just itching to enter it into the record. Look, I just want to know my child. I'm in pain here. Can't you see that? Alright, it's almost as if you take pleasure from it. Actually, we're really getting off on it. Yeah, what she said.

[ Chuckles ] You know, sadly, I am aware of ms. Davis' sadistic streak, but you. Hmm? You're a mystery to me. Ooh. You should take a class. We could plumb your psychic trauma. Yeah, hang on. Hang on. No, hard pass.

[ Cellphone chimes ] Oh. Oh, excuse me. Don't be long. Mm-hmm.

[ Footsteps depart ] You won't beat diane. Well, I have to try, now, don't I? What kind of father would I be if I didn't fight for my child? You'd have to prove that you're the father first. Hmm. And you're not gonna be able to do that. W-- wait. Oh, I got nothing more to say to you. Don't say anything. Just listen. Do I have something on my face? What? No. You were looking at me. Well, I'm just curious. How do you know sonny? We're friends. That's it? You're not gonna tell me? I did tell you. Who do you think called sonny for you last night? If it wasn't for me, you'd still be in lockup at the pcpd. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't have gotten arrested in the first place. Okay, well, who was the one that was holding a bag of stolen property and then ran away? You're right. I was foolish, and you saved me. How shall I ever thank you? Boy, that kid can eat, huh? Pretty obvious he hasn't had three square meals in a long time. Well, I am happy to feed him and do anything I can to help, but... then just, what, send him on his way? From what you told me, he didn't come into the U.S. Under conventional circumstances. We're not exactly a low-key family. Right. So if some strange teenager starts hanging around, people are gonna notice, don't you think?

[ Dinnerware clatters lightly ] Thank you. Jax is charming. He's, uh, sophisticated. He's, uh, got a golden touch when it comes to business, but if you dig a little deeper, you will learn that his first business, j&j jacks of alaska, co-run by his brother, jerry -- convicted arms dealer and smuggler. Man, you should be the last one talking about family. Besides, jax appears to be a legit businessman, same as drew. Well, drew gave nina a wide berth and proper respect when it came to the running and success of crimson, but, uh, jax has other designs. He likes to get involved in the day-to-day operation of the magazine. It's already caused friction in regards to a, uh, recent cover feature. And so nina came to you for help? Well, a little friendly warning -- nina can fight her own battles. You go sticking your nose in, she may well turn on you. I just want you to look into jax. See if he has any hidden agenda in his past or his present that will conflict with nina's interests. Or yours. Nina's interests are my interests, because I love her and I will do what I can to protect her. I would hope that you would understand that. So, you still think I'm too good to be true? Well, that's yet to be determined. You drop to from the sky all charming and gorgeous, clutching a bottle of champagne, nonetheless, and you assure me that you want to work with me, and together, we will make crimson bigger and better than ever. Well, that is true. And then you turn around and sabotage me. Oh, come on. I-I delivered ava's signature on the contract, didn't I? Only after you unloaded and drove her out of the office.Well... did ever occur to you, hey, that I want to do the same thing? I have to bite my tongue until it bleeds every time I look at that horrible woman, but my eyes are on the bigger prize. I make sacrifices for the greater good of crimson. And, for that, I am truly grateful. But not grateful enough to back off and give me the autonomy I had before. Well, "befor e," crimson was, um,inefficient and overextended. Neither are characteristics of a -- of a good business. So now you're saying I don't run a good business? No. If that were true, crimson would've gone under a long time ago. But you brought it back from the brink, and I have faith that you can take it to new heights. But not alone.

[ Cup taps lightly ] If we want this magazine to be successful, we have to trust each other and work as a team. Well, maybe I'll quit your team and go to another.

I was under the impression that your wife was recovering from transplant surgery. She is. And that, in the meantime, mac scorpio has been appointed acting police commissioner.

[ Sighs ] So? So, maybe recovery's gonna be a little more involved than I thought. And the two of you could appreciate another stream of income. I will compensate you handsomely, as you know. Is this research only? Mm-hmm. Bring me whatever you unearth, and I will act or not act accordingly. Do you want to quit? Are you so accustomed to getting your own way that the moment somebody questions your judgment, you're ready to walk? My way has worked just fine so far. Mostly. Look, I don't want to quit crimson. I love this magazine. When everything else was going to pot in my life, I poured my blood, sweat, and tears into crimson. Right, and you made it your own. And it would really hurt for me to let it go, but I can now. You know why? 'Cause I have a daughter, and I have a stepdaughter. I have more in my life going on. Well, if you did leave, I would be -- relieved? No, I'd be disappointed. Under your leadership,

crimson has not only survived, but it has thrived. You've honed its content, you've expanded its readership, and you've given it a voice on subjects far beyond fashion. That is a, uh, considerable contribution. But collaboration and sacrifice lie at the heart of business. Now, you may think that you can do it on your own, and maybe you can, but you don't have to. We both want crimson to be a success, right? Yes, yes, we do, but we don't agree on how to achieve that success. Okay, well, if you can't work with me, then you're free to go. But just a heads-up -- you won't have it half as good anywhere else.

[ Sighs ] Jax. Scorpio. Great. I will take this as my cue to leave. Oh, no, I can wait. No, that's okay. I have someplace I need to be. Until we meet again. I'll look forward to it. But will I? Hmm. So, the old jax charm not working like it used to? I assume you're here on behalf of the wsb. I can assure you that my hands are clean. It's not your hands I'm worried about. There must be a fitting tribute for your kindness. Sadly, I'm a little short of cash at the moment, but how about flowers? You have a lot of rosebushes out there. Sonny's rosebushes, and he's very possessive.

[ Hushed voice ] I'd advise you not to touch them. Then how will I show my gratitude? Shower me with information. Where are you from, and how do you know sonny? It's complicated. Okay, then we'll start with something easy. What's your real name? Alright, uh, I got to take care of some things, so... great. Where are we going? You're not going. Oh. I barely know your wife and your lovely stepdaughter. I don't want to impose. Sit down. Sit down. Stay out of trouble. My guys are gonna keep an eye on things. And I'm gonna take great care of you. It's not gonna take long. By the time I get back... everything has to be sorted out. Okay. I'll walk you out. Well? Well, uh, obviously, uh, josslyn's asking a lot of questions. We haven't said anything to her about dev. I think it's best to keep it that way, don't you think? The less she knows, the less she has to lie about. That's right. Okay. Bye. Bye. Look, I promise that I won't keep you long. I just want to apologize for failing you. I mean, I should've worked harder with you. I-I think that, if we would've built upon that initial success that you had at dod, the distance between your family and myself, well... wouldn't seem so daunting. Do you really believe that insipid drivel?

[ Clicks tongue ] You know, I pity you, ms. Davis. Truly, I do. More, your daughters. Because now I see how they came by their faithlessness. They learned it from you. You're really in no position to lecture me on parenting -- I love my son, sight unseen, wholly and without reservation. I would never do anything to hurt him. Now, can you say the same about you and your children?

Any idea where sonny's going? Well, why didn't you ask him? You're his "friend." And you're his stepdaughter. I just thought -- I'm gonna stop you right then and there. Sonny never, ever tells me about his business or anything questionable, which, now that I think about it, might explain why he's told me next to nothing about you. You think I'm questionable? I don't know. Are you? Hey, josslyn, avery left her toys on the boathouse deck, and I don't want them to blow into the lake. Sure, I'll get them. Thanks.

[ Sighs ]

[ Wind rushing ]

[ Bird chirping ] So, are you still hungry? Did you get enough to eat? Thank you. This was delicious. It's the least I could do. Sonny told me... what you did for him and dante in turkey. I didn't do much. Well, my husband says otherwise, and you wouldn't have run from your home if things hadn't gotten so dangerous as a result. So let's talk about how we make things safe for you while you're here... and safe for my family. You know, there's a -- a rumor going around the bureau that, where you go, so follows your low-life brother. Jerry and I aren't in touch. I haven't seen him in years. Is that intentional? Last time he escaped from steinmauer, he vanished, and I don't know where he is. He was a no-show at your mother's funeral. Well, if he was there, I didn't see him. Didn't, or didn't want to? You know, I haven't forgotten his role in my daughter robin's captivity. Robin was my friend. My daughter. Now...if he so much as checks on the weather at berkeley, I will find him, and I will dismember him. Is that a wsb policy on jerry? No, it's mine. If we're gonna coexist, we got to kind of get along. Coexist? Are you settling down? Ah, that's my date.

[ Chuckles lightly ] Well, nice chat. Always good to see you, mate.

[ Sighs ] That scorpio is one of a kind. Do I know you? You don'T. But you will. Why didn't you come over, say hi?

[ Chuckles ] Had enough of jax in my life. Let's, uh -- let's cut to the chase. Okay. Wsb owes dev. It's time to pay up.

[ Sighs ] -Hey. -Oh, no, I'm not late, am I? No, no, no. The kids aren't back from art yet. Well, what are you doing out here? Well, I needed to psych myself up before the final judgment round with ms. Tait. But it's okay. She's moving on after this. You were all excited about the awards ceremony when you left the house. What happened? I know. I know. It's just...

[ Sighs ] Jax and I got into it, and I got all worked up, and I threatened to quit crimson. And did you? Of course not. I'm as likely to quit that magazine as I am to quit you. Or sasha. Or charlotte. Which is absolutely, completely impossible.

[ Indistinct conversations in distance ] Come on. Let's go. Once more into the breach. Oh. Okay, everybody? If I could have your attention, the kids will be back any minute, so you should all find a spot and get your cameras ready... -yay! ...For the big ceremony.

[ Indistinct conversations ] Cupcakes are in the back.

[ Conversations continue ]

[ Sighs ] Thank you all for coming. Before the kids arrive, I want to say that I have had an amazing year. It has been my privilege and reward to teach this third-grade class. They have had their ups and downs, but that's true of any class. This class is unique in the way that they came together and the way that they improved individually and as a group. I may have been the teacher, but I did as much learning as any of my students, and that's thanks to them and thanks to you, their parents, and your commitment to their growth. Hard though this year may have been at times, I wouldn't change a second of it.

[ Indistinct conversations in distance ] Zahra amir? Diane miller. Your reputation precedes you. As does yours. I've had some good results in family court. You're better known as a criminal attorney. For one client in particular. Then again, mr. Corinthos has had his share of custody issues, hasn't he? Well, I never discuss my clients unless they're involved in the matter at hand. Of course. Your client today is willow tait. Mine is shiloh.

[ Sighs ] You know, kristina was quite open with me about all the ways that you hurt her. Well, you'll be glad to know that we're working on that. Well, I, uh -- I hope so. I hope that's true, but I have to tell you I'm worried for kristina's well-being. You see, she was one of my finest and most trusted students, and I don't think I need to tell you how satisfying a student/teacher relationship can be, for both parties. You see, kristina worked so hard, and she gave so much of herself to create that bond that we had, and something like that -- well, that's not easily broken. Nothing can erase the pledge that kristina made to me or dawn of day. But you know all about that, don't you? Surely, kristina has shared with you the nature of her commitment and its meaning for you in particular. Or hasn't she?

I know exactly what kristina's pledge was -- blackmail. Hmm. And, yes, I know that it hinges on me. But not how. Whatever kristina told you was either misunderstood or old news. Or you would've used it by now. No, you see, quite the contrary. Those pledges are sacred, and they are made in confidence. I would never divulge them, and I would never use them as leverage to blackmail those who made them or their family members. Come and get me, you son of a bitch. Ahh... you see, sam and kristina exhibited a similar rage, and that's why I can't give up on you or your daughters. You all have so much work left to do. Very impressive. You managed to say "shiloh" while keeping a straight face. My client can call himself whatever he likes. The fact remains that your client concealed his child and denied his parental rights, and I intend to prove it.

[ Sighs ] So, how'd you find me here? Well, aurora wouldn't need to revamp its security if you already knew my ways. Well, drew did mention he wanted to bring you on to oversee security, but he also mentioned that you weren't interested. What I said... ...was that I needed to think about it. So you've thought about it. If I were to work for aurora, you and I would be up close and personal, and not all my clients can handle that. Well, maybe you should consider changing your approach. I can't protect a client unless I know them inside and out. That being said... you ready to open up? Dev: I don't want to cause any problems. I'll go, but thank you for -- no, I don't want you to leave. Sonny's out there, trying to fix things for you. We need to wait here and see what he comes up with. It's very kind of you to let a stranger into your home. But I don't want to be strangers, so let's fix that. I want to learn more about you. Ask me anything. Okay, uh, well, tell me about your family. Anything but that. Mm. Where'd you learn to speak english? Tvs, movies.

[ American accent ] I can even do an american accent.

[ Chuckling ] Wow, that's impressive. Almost as impressive as the way you lifted sonny's cellphone.

[ Turkish accent ] I-I'm a skilled professional. Right. It's a good thing, because if you didn't try to steal sonny's phone, you wouldn't have been there to save his life. Your people were supposed to provide for dev. Well, my people and i have parted company. Hmm, alright. Um, so I take it your exit was not mutually agreed upon. Am I right? After we'd had our chat, I, uh, reached out to a former colleague of mine. Now, he said to me that the bureau had agreed to give dev a new identity, put him in a place which was out of harm's way, and give him some cash. Okay. He took one look at all of this and bolted. Now, I think he probably saw his minders as a bunch of backstabbing bastards -- so they're just done with him? Is that -- is that the way it's gonna work? The bureau doesn't think about dev as an asset or an obligation -- just someone else's problem.

Don't even think about contacting my daughters. Very well. I will honor your wishes. But you better have a word with them, because, well, they can't seem to stay away from me. Ah, good morning, ms. Amir. Shiloh, let's talk, shall we? Certainly. Excuse me. What are you still doing here? Thank god I came back before anything happened. That man is a cancer.

[ Whispering ] Yes, he's a cancer. With questionable standing and absolutely no legally admissible evidence. One way or another, I'm gonna win this case. But it's not gonna matter. It doesn't matter whether I win or lose? Because he's still gonna walk. That baby is not gonna be safe until that man is behind bars. Or in the ground. What's the situation in turkey? Not all of raj's people are in custody. So dev is still a target. Maybe. Look. The kid managed to evade the bureau. Then he manages to slip into the U.S. Seems to me he's pretty good at looking after himself. Yeah, but what I don't understand is how can you just wish him good luck and send him off?

[ Exhales sharply ] He didn't turn up at my doorstep. He turned up on yours. You got me there. Alright, you know what? It was nice chatting with you. If the wsb asks any questions about -- I haven't seen him, which, as it turns out, is the truth. Alright. Carly: I can't imagine how hard it was for you to make it all the way to the U.S. With nothing but sonny's name. It was difficult, but I am not without talents. Mm, obviously. But why'd you come alone? Sonny told me that the bureau offered to look after you in return for your assistance. The assistance provided didn't meet my needs. And sonny's assistance was more to your liking, right? I took a leap of faith. And I've been rewarded. Mm. Okay, well, sonny had milo pick up some clothes for you, and I'm gonna put them in your room. You can shower and change. Thank you. That's very generous. If you want to thank me, why don't you pull back a little on the "humble gratitude"? A little bit goes a long way. Hello. Oh, I don't remember ever having to sell a potential employee on a job, especially when he's the one approaching me. Well, I didn't want to take the job only to find out that you really didn't want me to do it. Why waste my time or yours? Alright, well, if aurora were to hire you, it would be with the understanding that you would have appropriate access to my life. I can't speak for drew, but I have nothing to hide. A lot of people say that, and then... the excavation begins. Some people bury their secrets so long, they forget them. Well, I must've buried mine so long ago, because, uh, I can't remember one. Mm, you're not thinking hard. 'Cause I was able to find that in a matter of minutes. "Reading rockstar" -- no way! That is so cool! Yeah, I'm so proud of you! Yeah, man, and your cupcakes were a big hit. I saw, like, three guys stuffing them in their mouth, trying to sneak out of here with them.

[ Laughs ] Great job. Thanks, franco. Yeah.

Félicitations,

ma petite. I am so proud of you. Isn't it pretty? Oh, it sure is. Oh, charlotte, you better get going. You don't want to be late for the relay race. I wish they had riding at field day. Well, I tell you what -- in honor of your award, we'll -- we'll take the horses out when we get home. Okay! Do you have the presents? Ooh, I do. Okay.

[ Hushed voice ] Ms. Tait better not be giving us a swipe with that kindness award.

[ Hushed voice ] I choose to believe she earned it.

[ Indistinct conversations in distance ] Aiden, are you ready? Ms. Tait? What is this? We made you a book of photos so you can remember the year. Hey, I will never forget our year together. I'll miss you. Me, too. But fourth grade is just one floor up. We'll still see you next year, right?

[ Sighs lightly ] Is he in his room? Who -- dev? How long is he staying with us, mom? We don't know yet. Really? So you don't care at all about sonny bringing home some random kid from turkey to stay here with us indefinitely? How do you know he's from turkey? Because I heard him tell you. Josslyn? Okay, yes, I eavesdropped. I went outside to get avery's toys, like you told me to do, and I -- I ducked below the window, and I listened. Oh, gosh, josslyn. That's completely unacceptable. If you had questions about dev, all you had to do was ask me. Well, would you have told me if I asked you? Uh, I don't know. And that's why I didn't ask. See, if I'd asked you, you couldn't tell me -- I'd have to accept that. But since I didn't ask, I was technically free to, so... I wish you hadn'T. Yeah, me, too, because dev caught me outside, and it was really embarrassing, but can we just accept the fact that I now know the truth? Can we just figure out what we're supposed to do next? What you're gonna do next is go clean up avery's toys, unless you already did that. No, I didn'T. No, okay. Go do that, and when sonny gets home, we'll figure out what happens next, okay? Go.

[ Sighs ]

Um. Ms. Tait, I know your day is over, but could you please stay a few more minutes? Principal schultz needs to speak with you. I really can'T. I have a pressing appointment. It's really important you speak with him. I'll try to hurry him along.

[ Indistinct conversations in distance ]

[ Speaking indistinctly ] Uh, so -- so, maybe you take a rain check on your appointment, 'cause you don't want to keep the principal waiting, right? Well, as of today, he's not my principal anymore, and I cannot be late for my appointment. It's really important. I'm sorry, ms. Tait, just one question. Uh, you realize that charlotte got all a's this semester, don't you? She did. But you gave her the "kindness counts" award? Because charlotte worked hard to show kindness and consideration towards her classmates. She doesn't need an academic award. Her grades speak for themselves. If you do move her to the accelerated learning program, I have no doubt she'll thrive there, but you might find that she misses the friends she made this year. Uh, we appreciate your candor, ms. Tait. We expect great things from charlotte. So do I. If only I'd be around to see it. Surely you did not just threaten a man's life to an officer of the court. I'm always so taken with your colorful use of metaphor. Yeah, that's right. I was being metaphorical. Yes. Yes, you were. So now call your sponsor or your hunky new therapist, but, either way, get your head on straight. I'll be fine. Will you? Bailiff: [ In distance ] All rise.

[ Clears throat ] Be seated.

[ Sighs ] Two matters on the docket have settled, which brings us to the matter of david henry archer vs. Willow tait. Ms. Miller? Where's your client? Please tell charlotte how much I'll cherish the photo book. If you'll excuse me, I really must be going. Okay, no, I'm sorry, you can't go. I'm already late. And I know, but we've got one more thing for you, and it's not here yet, but it's on its way. I promise you it will be worth the wait. Robert was fired? More like forced retirement. Wow. He's not very happy. No, I can imagine, and that's not good for him, but that doesn't change the fact the wsb owes dev protection. Well, the wsb feels like they fulfilled their obligation when dev gave them the slip. Okay, what are we gonna do now? I -- oh, hey. Hey. How long were you out there? Avery had a lot of toys. Mm. What's up with our guest? Well, that seems to be the question of the hour. Hey. Did you find everything okay? Yes, thank you. How do you like your room? It's very comfortable. Well, it's yours for the summer. I'm staying? -Um. -Just for the summer. After that, we'll -- we'll see. Um, uh, what are people gonna say when they meet him? His name is devin. Isn't his name -- "dev" is short for "devin." He's my cousin. You have a cousin named devin? I do now.
