(This still needs extensive editing)

Here's some tea. -Thanks. -Goes against my business model, but for you, I'll make an exception. Thank you. You know, I don't know what I would've done if you hadn't been here. You would've handled it the best you know how.

[ Elevator bell dings ] I'm just glad I was here to help. Madam mayor. Mr. Corinthos. Commissioner.

[ Sighs ] Call me laura. Yeah. Well, how is lulu? Any word yet? She's in surgery. It's been a while. Yeah, monica said she was gonna give us an update, but it's been over an hour. Okay, well, if you'd like, I can look into that for you. No, thanks. It's far more important that you find the man who stabbed my daughter. I don't know. Call me a cynic -- but what are the chances of two seemingly healthy people being struck blind within days of each other? To that point, how well do you know kevin collins? Lulu... don't go! Kevin. You're dreaming, kevin. Wake up. N-no! Hey, it's okay. You're all right.

[ Breathing heavily ] I-I was -- I was having a dream. Yeah, well, from what you said, it s-- it sounded more like a nightmare. I was talking in my sleep? Yeah. To lulu. You s-- you said, "don't go." Why do you keep checking your phone, papa? I know mommy's late, but she'll be here. Sometimes there's traffic. Uh, well, there's been a change of plans. Uh, ma petite, you're gonna be staying at wyndemere for a little while with nina and me. Why isn't mommy coming for me? Jason?! Jason, can you hear me?! Oh, my god. Jason!

[ Coughs ]

[ Grunting ] Maxie:

Hat may be' ends with 'woulda, coulda, shoulda' once more." Yikes. It's got to be rough, huh, watching the red sox beat the yankees and then go on to win it all? And then play "new york, new york" in the locker room? I mean, who does that? Anyway, um, they say the yankees are making some big moves in the off-season, so there's that. I'm sorry I didn't break this news to you sooner... and I probably shouldn't have done it today -- seeing as how it's our wedding anniversary. Some secrets just don't keep. Why isn't mommy coming for me? Is she still mad at me for what happened with aiden? No, not in the slightest bit. Why isn't mommy coming to get me? She said it's important to stick to the schedule. Well, unfortunately, we had to rearrange the schedule.

[ Sighs ] Ma petite, your mother has been hurt. We've got detectives and the csu combing the metro court and the surrounding area. We're talking to guests and staff, and we're gathering all the security footage. We've collected several pieces of evidence. I can submit a written progress report with more details when I get back to my office. How do you want me to handle the press? Are they pressuring you? Not yet, but it's only a matter of time. Yeah. Right. I think we stick with the original plan regarding the press. It is an active investigation. I trust you to craft an appropriate statement. Thank you. In the meantime, fill me in on this evidence. What do we know about this guy? Kevin and i have mutual friends, and he helped robin considerably over the years. Hmm. And you -- you never worked with him directly? No. No, I mean, I-I was his patient, but I only went to see him a couple of times before he referred me to andre. Did kevin ever consult with the wsb? Not that I'm aware. But, you know, the bureau's a large operation. It's compartmentalized by design. Mm-hmm. So...kevin could've been contracted by the wsb without your knowledge, you know, for a research project or something. Oh, my god. What? With cabot? The scientist that we think is somehow connected to my viral blindness? Is that what you're saying? It's just a thought. Just a-a thought. Look, the -- the labs, uh, with the results of kevin's blood work are back any -- any minute now, all right? Okay. If he has the same virus that caused your blindness, then we have one more piece of the puzzle. I-I was t-talking in my sleep? About lulu? Yeah. It's understandable, given what's happened to her... I'm pretty shaken up, too. I feel so badly for laura. So lulu's gone... oh, poor laura. No. No, lulu's -- she's alive. She's in surgery last I checked. Oh. So she still may succumb. Well, she still has a fighting chance. Unlike my kiki. I just pray that lulu makes it so that the bastard who did this to her won't have claimed another victim. One can only hope. Jason? Jason! Jason, I can't see you!

[ Sirens wailing in distance ] Over here! Over here. Hey, there's a man. He's trapped in the cellar. He fell, and I can't hear him. You got to get him out. Lopez, mcmorris, check it out. Yeah, come on. Over here.

[ Water dripping ] Jason: Sam! Hello?! Can anybody hear me?! Sam! Okay. Somebody -- somebody built this place.

[ Sighs ] So there's got to be a way out... and james

He's so strong and independent. Just like you. I'm learning a lot from him, actually. How to stand on my own two feet again... how to let new people in my life. There's something else that I need to tell you. I've been getting closer to your brother. Look, I know he came into town in a bad way, and he made some terrible decisions, but underneath all of that -- in spite of all of it -- he's a really good person. And the thing is... I wouldn't mind getting to know him better, but I keep coming up with reasons not to let him in my life.

[ Sniffles ] I know you would want me to move on and -- and be happy. But how can I do that? The only reason that I was able to go on after I lost you was -- was james. And I'm scared.

[ Sniffles ] I'm scared to let someone in, to care again. So if you could just give me a sign.

[ Sniffles ] And if you could get someone up there to help someone down here create a truly waterproof mascara...

[ Footsteps approaching ] I can't help with the makeup. Would this do? Where's mommy? In the hospital? You know what, honey? Yes, she's in the hospital. But, you know, she also has the best doctors taking care of her. I want to see her. I'm sure she wants to see you, too, but she just can't right now. Her doctors say she needs to rest. She can't have any distractions while her body's trying to heal. I'm not a distraction. Mommy says I'm her good luck charm. I bring her good luck. I need to see her. Charlotte, honestly, I'm worried that if you see her right now, it's just gonna really upset you. I'm already upset because you won't let me see her. Please, papa? Please? You have to let me see her. She needs me. We couldn't extract any tissue from beneath lulu's fingernails. I know my daughter. I know she'd fight back. Well, there wasn't anything there. But we have the knife, and we're checking for prints. There's something else. We've got a partial shoe print. Given its proximity to the presumed attack site, we believe it belongs to lulu's assailant. Was it a man's shoe or a woman's shoe? It appears to be a man's shoe print. No unique or identifiable tread patterns or brand markers. However, something did stand out to csu, and that's the positioning. What does that mean? Well, lulu's escape left a blood trail leading right to the elevator. But the shoe print wasn't angled in that direction. Yeah. W-what does it mean? Well, it's possible that lulu's attacker got distracted and didn't realize that she was still alive, or maybe you're right and lulu fought back and inflicted some defensive wound, and that's how she got away. If that's the case, we could be looking for someone that's injured. Did you notify the E.R.? Yes, mr. Corinthos. That was my first call. Nothing so far, but they know to be on the lookout. What is taking these doctors so long? They already have my full medical history. What could they be looking for? Oh, we're about to find out. What are you doing here? Who are you talking to?

[ Door closes ] Dr. Collins, it's hamilton finn. I have anna with me. Why? Well, anna might be the key to understanding your condition. I don't understand any of this. Finn, you're an infectious-disease specialist, and -- and, anna, you work for the wsb. Yes, and just days ago, she suffered a temporary loss of vision as a result of a viral infection. Temporary? So -- so your sight is back? Yes, it is. Yes, thank god. Yes. Well, that's good news for you, anna, but are you thinking that I've contracted the same virus? We'll know for certain when we get your lab results back. In the meantime, if you feel up to it, I'd like to ask you a few questions... of course. Fire away. Have you ever worked for the wsb? Or the dvx? -Did you see him fall? -Yeah, I was right there. I held my hand out, but he wouldn't take it. Well, if he had, he might've dragged you down.

[ Sighs ] Okay, I guess so. Well, did you see him after he fell? I-I-I-I put my phone light on there, and -- and I couldn't see him. The hole's too deep.

[ Water dripping ]

 Okay.

[ Grunts ] Come on. Just a little -- little more.

[ Breathing heavily ]

[ Police radio chatter ] Sorry for the delay. All right, we found a break in the cellar floor, all right? The planks, they were rotted. So jason fell through the floor. Looks that way. I mean, there's another area beneath, but it's too deep to access without special equipment. Okay, well, what are you gonna do to find him? We're gonna get a team in here with the right equipment, okay? We're coordinating with city engineers to pull schematics for the tunnels in the area. Okay. Okay, how long's that gonna take? Best case? Five, six hours. There's a whole network of tunnel underneath port charles. Some dates back to the 1800s. This is gonna take a detailed search. Okay. Okay, thank you. All right.

[ Sighs ] Pick up, pick up.

[ Ringing ] Pick up.

[ Cellphone rings ] Samantha. I-is something wrong? Spinelli, I need your help. Are you -- are you by a computer? I-I'm online as we speak. Okay, I need you to look into the port charles city engineer records. Or -- or the water department -- what am I looking for? Pipes, tunnels that run under port charles. Thanks.

[ Chuckles ] How many of yours do I have? Eh, who's keeping tabs? Besides, I have an ample supply. Maxie, what are you doing out here all alone at night with everything that's been going on? I feel safe with nathan. I could ask you the same thing. Why are you here? I come here from time to time to talk to my brother. I approve of that.

[ Chuckles ] Does he ever talk back? Not yet. How about you? Oh, all the time. In the wind, a sudden ray of sunshine. But mostly, I hear his voice in my head. I know him so well.

[ Chuckles ] I know exactly what he would say and how he would say it.

[ Chuckles ] I just told him about the yankees. He's pissed.

[ Chuckles ] -Oof. Tough. Just when I think that... I'm through the worst of the grief, it knocks me flat. It's like standing with your back to the ocean and getting hit with a tidal wave. I guess that's never gonna end, huh? Probably not. Maybe in time, it'll be less like the ocean, more like something you could wade back into... like a tide pool. Think so? And when exactly will that happen? I suppose it'S... whenever nathan tells you it's okay to let him go. She'll feel better if she sees me. Please, papa. She needs me. Okay. Okay. I will take you to the hospital. We'll see if we can see your mother. But you need to be brave, and we need to do whatever the doctors say, okay? Can we get mommy a scone? Of course. We can get all the scones. Go pick out the good ones. I understand why you did that, but do you think it's wise? She could see lulu hooked up to a bunch of machines, and that could be very traumatizing. I'm not gonna let her see lulu right now, not unless it's to say goodbye. I hope it doesn't come to that. Me, too. Charlotte adores her. This is gonna be a heck of a loss. For all of us. I like lulu. I respect her. Please tell her I'm praying for her. You're not coming? No, no. I mean, I would just be in the way. I want her to focus on her mother. I'm ready, papa. They had mommy's favorite -- apple spice. Oh, wow, apple spice. Well, that is a good choice. Here, let me get your coat for you, all right? Here you go. Are you coming to the hospital to see mommy? You know, I'm -- I'm not. I'm just gonna let you spend some time with your mommy, and just know I'm gonna be waiting at home, okay? I'm glad your home is with us again, nina. It makes everything better.

[ Monitor beeping ] Kevin is not a spy, okay? W-why are you interrogating him? No, this is hardly an interrogation. I-I just want answers, and I would assume that you would, too, kevin. It is possible that we are suffering from the same virus -- wouldn't you want to know when and where you acquired it? Anna, I-I can't recall ever coming into contact with any agent outside of a ticket agent at the airport -- or y-you, of course. I'm just a simple psychiatrist. Then you've never met dr. Arthur cabot?

[ Sighs ] I'm afraid not.

[ Clears throat ] I'm, uh, feeling a little dizzy. Okay, all right, anna, that's it. -Okay. -No more questions. Lie back. Let me check your eyes, okay? Just relax. Now, prior to the onset, you -- you mentioned you experienced a-an acute headache. Do you, uh -- do you remember what you were doing at the time? You know, lulu, you really need to be diligent about checking your facts. Aah! Nothing out of the ordinary. Well, did you come in contact with any foreign substances? Or did you pick up any strange objects, an object that wasn't yours? You're the investigative reporter. What do you think I'm doing? Nothing that I can think of... thank you for your leadership. I appreciate the effort of the pcpd. You have our full cooperation. No one wants to jump to conclusions, but it looks like, uh, lulu was attacked by the same person who killed kiki and those other two. Can you find proof? There are certain indicators pointing in that direction. Such as? This is privileged information. -Oh, oh. -I'm afraid I can't talk about it in front of mr. Corinthos. Um, I'll be -- if you need me, I'll be over there. Just text me, okay? -Thanks, sonny. -All right. Okay. What do we got?

[ Sighs ] I'm sorry, finn. The dizziness is better, but I'm really getting very tired. I wonder if you'd mind if I just get some rest for a while. Now -- now, kevin is too polite to say this to you, but your questions are obviously very stressful for him. -Okay. Okay. -Of course. I will, uh, go see about your lab work. And in the meantime, I'll have a nurse come check your vitals... oh, that won't be necessary. I'd -- I'd rather just -- just get some rest. And -- and ava is here. She can keep an eye on me. Of course. Who needs a nurse? I'll be right back when I have your results. Thank you. What on earth was that all about? No idea. Ava, would you be a love and go down and bring me back an herbal tea? I think it might help me relax so I can get some sleep. -Yes. Yeah, of course. I'd be happy to. And where -- where's my coat? Oh, I-I left it right here on the chair. Okay. Oh, and one more thing. Would you mind just... getting some information about lulu? Sure. The position of the wound was almost identical to the ones that killed kiki and peyton mills. In all three instances -- the killer stabbed for the heart with almost surgical precision. This individual appears to be familiar with human anatomy. Okay. Are there any other similarities? Just like the other victims, lulu's driver's license was missing.

[ Exhales sharply ]

[ Breathing heavily ]

[ Grunts ] Oh.

A? Yeah, I-I've been briefed. It was the serial killer who attacked her. I have to get back to the investigation.

[ Exhales sharply ] I'll call when we know more. Uh, yeah, one more thing. I need her cellphone. She and her husband speak pretty regularly. He might call. -I'm sorry, laura. I'm afraid I can't return lulu's phone just yet. It's evidence. Why is her phone evidence? They need to check lulu's phone activity and her computer, especially 24 hours leading up to the attack. We need to clarify the content of lulu's conversations. We've accounted for all but one, and that was the last person she spoke with before her attack. Who is it? I mean, other than when he treated me, kevin and I are just social acquaintances at best. I-I-I don't think I've said more than 10 words to him in the past six months. Somehow the pair of us get piercing headaches and go blind within days of each other?

[ Cellphone beeping ] How is that possible? Well, we're about to find another piece to the puzzle. The lab results are in. -Okay. -I'll be right back. Let me know, yeah? Laura? Oh, this is horrible. Are you all right? I know you're not all right. I'm so sorry. If there's anything I can do to help with the investigation, anything at all, you know? You -- you wouldn't happen to know where your son is, would you? You know, everyone keeps telling me to "let go" and "move on," but nobody can tell me exactly how to do that. Maxie, letting go doesn't mean erasing nathan's memory. Just betraying it? Now, that's interesting... would it betray nathan for you to be happy again? Or would it honor him? See, my sense of nathan is that he loved you selflessly and that he would want you to find happiness again, whatever that means for you. I would give you my handkerchief, but you already have it. It's a good thing, too.

[ Sniffles ] What's nathan saying now? Nothing. I can't hear him, actually.

[ Sniffles ] I hope that's not a bad thing. It doesn't feel like it. Maxie! I've been trying to get ahold of you all night, and then I remembered the date, and I realized y-you might be here. Nina, what's wrong? It's lulu.

[ Breathing heavily ] Kevin! Kevin, w-what happened? Are you all right?

[ Water rushing ] The firefighter said that the floor was broken, and jason must have fallen through. All right, I-I had no difficulty accessing the more recent plans, but they're all within eight feet of the surface level. Okay, but the firefighter said that it was too deep to access. All right, t-this might be helpful. It's a pdf of a schematic dated 1910. What you got? The black duck distillery is located over an earlier water system. Um, I-it's a network of drains and cisterns leading to an underground waterway, which then leads out into the harbor... where? Um, g-give me a moment -- this is an old document, a-a-a-and t-the waterfront wasn't nearly as developed... come on, spinelli. Hurry up, please. Okay, I believe the waterway lets out near... pier 55. Nina: I gu

He yankees lost. Next year.

[ Sighs ] It's not all bad news. There's good news, too. James is amazing. He is the light of my life. He's so much like you, so much like you. Maxie's so incredible with him. Your mom is back in town, and we're fighting, but she dotes on james, so that's good.

[ Clears throat ] About that. I'll put that there for you... ...just in case someone comes by and they need it. There's a lot happening in my life right now. It's good and bad and confusing.

[ Voice breaking ] I miss you. I just miss you. Maxie misses you, too. I think she's starting to move on. Don't hold it against her. Although I know you never would. Lulu was attacked in her office at the invader. Phone records indicate that peter was the last person she called before she was attacked. -Okay. And? -And we'd like to question him. -All right, why? You think that he has something to do with lulu's attack? Well, we won't know unless he's questioned. Yeah, I understand why you want to question him, but he didn't have anything to do with this, laura. Do you really know peter august? 'Cause from what I know, he kept jason imprisoned for five years, paid someone to chase him all the way from russia, kept his true identity hidden for months. Maybe he's hiding something more. The sooner peter comes in, the sooner he can be exonerated.

[ Elevator bell dings ] -Excuse me. -Peter's far from perfect, but he's not a serial killer. -Stop it. Not now. The sooner we eliminate him as a suspect, the better. Sweetie, oh, I'm so glad to see you. I really am, but, uh, why are you here so late? I wanted to be here for mommy. I assumed that lulu wasn't allowed visitors, but she really insisted. Well, your dad's right. Uh, lulu's with the doctors right now. We can't see her yet. Then I'll wait until we can. But, you know, it could go on for kind of a long time, and, well, you might get really tired, sweetie. I think -- I think it would be best for you to go home with dad. But i need to see her. I need to tell her not to be afraid, that it'll be okay. Honey... it's going to be okay. Do you know how I know that? Your mom was in this hospital when she was a tiny, little baby, and she was very, very sick. But she got better, against all the odds. And that's how I knew my daughter is a fighter, and she's not gonna let anyone or anything beat her. I'll bet she learned that from you.

[ Laughs ] Do you think so? Really? Well, I think

i learned it from her. And when she's better... you will learn it from her.

[ Elevator bell dings ] Anna. Have you heard anything about lulu? She's still in surgery, as far as I know. The police are looking for you. I saw some messages on my phone, but I just wanted to get us here. Oh, the pair of you were together? -Yeah. -Okay. For how long? For about 45 minutes. What's this about, commissioner? Would you mind coming down to the station with me? I'd like to ask you some questions. -Wait. Why? -Well, I-I'm not going anywhere until I know that lulu is all right. If you want to ask me some questions, go ahead. I have nothing to hide. Very well. I need an account of your last phone conversation with lulu just prior to the attack. And I need to know about your whereabouts for the last four hours. Oh, this is so embarrassing... I just wanted to turn on the television to see if there was any news about lulu, and I couldn't find the damn remote. Oh. Well... oh! It's -- it's right here, kevin. You know, I was going to go and see about lulu after I brought you the tea, but I don't think that I-I want to leave you alone.

[ Chuckling ] Oh, I'm not helpless, ava. Clumsy, maybe. I know you're not helpless. I just want to support you the way you've supported me. I hope you'll let me do that. No one's ever cared about me the way you do, ava.

[ Chuckles ] I find that hard to believe. Oh, there have been a few who were well-intentioned, but... I didn't feel about them the way I feel about you. Don't ever forget that. Whatever may come, ava. I won'T. Oh. I am...sorry... to interrupt. I-I have your labs, kevin. And some answers.
