(This still needs extensive editing)
Your father committed a crime. My father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. He didn't know what the hell he was doing. I'm sorry. I'm sure this is incredibly difficult for you. It doesn't... it doesn't have to be, you understand? I will compensate ms. Jerome for all the damages, and this whole thing will be over. You just got to let me take my father home tonight. Unfortunately, we're past that. When he got his -- his diagnosis, he was so upset, he took off. He didn't know where he going, and he probably just ended up at that art gallery. And the vandalism? It was an accident. Put yourself in his shoes. He's a scared man. I get that, I do. It's not that I don't have compassion for your situation, but we have security footage. Your father was trespassing, he damaged a valuable piece of art, and on top of that, the guy's got a record. So, no, I can't just "let him go." That's what I was gonna tell you on valentine's day. I was gonna tell you that I love you. I love you. So now you can go ahead and say whatever you were gonna say. A-Ava, I'm -- I'm flattered. I just -- I-I don't know how to respond. Hey. Need some help? Yeah, I, uh, I like to think so. Come on, Joss, he's helping us out. I know. And I'm grateful for that. But only that. Got it? Loud and clear. [Scoffs] [Door opens] I wonder what this is about. Brad! Hey! Congratulations. My mom just told me the news. I'm so psyched for you guys. Psyched for what? I must be, uh, out of the loop, huh? A prison stint will do that to you, huh? [Chuckles] Sorry. I hope I didn't just step on anything -- no, it's -- it's fine. [Chuckles] Bye. Bye. That's actually why I came. Um, I'm here to tell you that Lucas and I are adopting a baby. So, how do you know that guy? Oh, he's my uncle's husband. Uh, they're adopting a baby! Oh, wow. Speaking of babies... hey. So, what's this mysterious surprise you have for me? Oh, trust me, you're gonna love it. [Chuckles] Carly, where you going? It's dark. You know, we might have missed something. Let her go. You know where we are? Yeah, angel's bluff. Morgan died about 200 yards from here. He was killed in an explosion. It was -- it was here? Yeah. The, uh, car he was driving -- it blew up. I'm sorry. But in terms of Carly, she didn't know the location of the phone until you traced it. No, that part's tripping me up, too. So there's got to be more to it, don't you think? [Footsteps approach] Hey, did you find anything? Nothing, no. Any sign of an explosion? No, no, nothing, nothing like that, but I have received multiple calls from this number right here. I'll be right back. I'm gonna check something out. [Scoffs] Look, I can't even imagine how difficult this must be for you. I'm not imagining it, okay? Okay, but do you think maybe you heard was something else? Maybe it was a bad connection. I know the difference between static and a bomb. I do. Okay, okay, but this -- there's no sign of an explosive being detonated out here. Okay. All right. C-can we put the -- the phone booth under surveillance? Can we do that? Carly, for what, a few prank calls? That doesn't constitute a crime. Well, what a-- what about dusting the receiver for fingerprints or something? You know how many people have used this thing over the years, right? It's worth a shot, Dante! I need to figure out what the hell's going on!
When do you expect Dante back? First-name basis, huh? When? I have no idea. Ms. Jerome's not gonna be a problem 'cause we're associates, so I'm just gonna -- I promise to pay her the price of the sculpture. She'll drop the charges. That would certainly make things easier, yeah. So, yeah, get the ball rolling so I can get my father out of here tonight. I don't think you understand, Mr. Corbin. Your father damaged --
Mike: Ha! I'm -- I'm Mr. Corbin, okay? I had to change my name for reasons that I-I don't need to get into here. Uh... you -- you don't know who you're talking to, do you? My son is a very important man. It's all right, pop. Is that so? Yeah, yeah, yeah. He -- he's a coffee importer, okay? You know, you probably drink it all the time. Ever heard of Corinthos? Wait. You're Sonny Corinthos? Nice to meet ya. I know all about you, Mr. Corinthos. You're the most powerful crime boss in new York. So that's why you're so hot to see detective Falconeri? You two have an understanding? That's not why I want to see Dante. I want to see him 'cause he's my son. The last thing I want to do is hurt you. No. You're not. I'm -- you haven't hurt me. You're being honest, right, and I'm very grateful. I mean, do I want you to love me back? Of course I want you to love me back. But if I'm being honest, if you were to say those words to me now right after I said them to you, I probably wouldn't believe you anyway. [Laughing] Damned if I do, damned if I don't. Absolutely. [Laughing] It's a very tricky business out here. I guess so. If you meant what you said and you are truly flattered -- I-I am, more than you know. Well, then do this for me... consider my love a gift and carry it around with you and let it remind you of how special you are. But if it's something else to you, if it's -- if it's a burden or makes you feel uncomfortable at all, please don't waste time letting me down easy. Just do it, say it right now. [Gasps] Oh, my gosh. These are perfect for the dress you gave me. That's what I was thinking. Where'd you get them? That same runway show? Yeah. I'd just forgotten about it until now, but they're yours for the foreseeable future. [Chuckles] I can't believe it. You've officially saved the day twice now. Getting that dress when my mom came up empty, and now these -- [Scoffs] She's gonna freak when she seems them. Mm, yeah, maybe -- maybe not in a good way. What do you mean? Well, I mean, Carly wasn't exactly thrilled when I came through with that dress. I'm here on Lucas' behalf. This is hard on him, so I said I'd handle it. Handle what? [Sighs] We hope you'll make it clear to whoever asks that... you won't be a part of our child's life. I mean, yeah, I can try to lift some prints, but like I said, Carly, a lot of people have touched this thing over the years. Okay. Something happened here. I'm not talking about the night Morgan died, all right? I'm talking about something else, something recent, and I just need to figure out what it is. Maybe this guy can give you some answers.
Dante: Who's this? Says his name is cal. I don't say it. It is.
Jason: He's got a little camp set up, and he said somebody's been coming up here the last month or so using this phone to make calls. Can you give us a description?
Detective Falconeri's your son?
Sonny: That's right.
And does he often look the other way when it comes to your...dealings?
Sonny: Absolutely not.
So this was a one-time thing, then?
No, this time -- this has nothing to do with my dealings. It has to -- my father's sick. You can't see that he's sick, he needs help? He doesn't need to be in jail. But, see, Dante is a very compassionate man. He would understand and let him go. And maybe I could, too, if it wasn't my first week on the job, but I got to go by the book on this. I'm sorry, I really am, but what happens to your father is for a judge to decide. All right, well, then I'm just gonna have to call my lawyer. Diane Miller? Yeah, a quality woman. Yeah, invite her over. She's gonna get you out of here tonight, pop. Uh, not tonight, she's not. Excuse me? It's too late to get the DA out of bed, let alone a judge. I'm sorry, but your father's stuck here until morning. I think the reason I'm so conflicted -- and not about being with you. I love [Chuckles] Being with you. But how I feel... ...I think it's because... I don't know what "falling in love" means. I had to shut that part of myself off. I-I-I couldn't fall. I understand. I hope you do, because I think about you all the time, Ava. You do? Yes. Just the thought that I get to see you at -- at the end of a long day -- it brings a huge smile to my face. I know that smile. Ava, you are smart and challenging, but with you, I am forced to examine my mind and my heart. And I never realized how bad I needed that. You don't have to say all this, you know? No, I want to. Don't you see? This is -- this is true. I want to say it. I want you to hear it. It's because of you, Ava Jerome, that I am changing. And, yes... that is confusing and [Laughing] Complicated, and I wouldn't have it any other way. It's exhilarating. Exhilarating. Exhilarating but...? But I am terrified. If you know anything about the person you saw using this phone booth -- and any details you can give us, please. Why are they so important? Just answer the question. I didn't talk to them or anything.
Jason: But you saw them. That's what I said. Are you gonna help us or not? Young, good clothes, nice hair -- don't see a lot of that down here. Okay, well, for starters, let's go with the basics. Was it a man or a woman? You know, I figured your mom had told you about it, so forget it. No, I won't forget it. Mom was mad at you because of the dress? [Scoffs] Yeah. I mean, she thought I was trying to manipulate you. [Chuckles] That's crazy. You were just doing something nice. Yeah, I mean, I-I was hoping it would, um... what? Okay, this -- this is gonna sound stupid, but I was hoping that by giving you the dress, it would broker some sort of, uh, peace with your mom, you know, for the -- for the baby's sake, you know? But, you know, Carly wasn't having it any more than when I told her that I wanted to name the baby Morgan. Prospective birth mothers will obviously have questions about us -- who we are, where we came from -- and all we ask is that if anyone ever shows up here from the agency, you tell them that you and Lucas are estranged and that you won't be involved in the child's life. Wow -- naming the baby Morgan. That would be... you know, it's just weird for me, because... in my mind, there's one Morgan -- our Morgan. So, you hate the idea, too? No. Okay. No, but... I can understand why my mom would. It was a guy -- for sure. But he was well-kept, put together? Oh, yeah.
Jason: I mean, why -- why not use a cell phone or a burner phone? Why use this pay phone? Hiding from someone, probably, doesn't want them to know he's using. What kind of drugs? They're always pills, so I'm guessing vikes, ox? Apparently, he needs a refill. So he's calling his dealer. But someone must have given him the wrong number. Maybe somehow, he ended up with yours. I'll tell you this -- the dude ain't happy about it. Did you see an explosion here tonight? Yeah. A big one.
Diane said the same thing as the detective. H-have a seat. Wha... she's not coming? Not tonight. She's gonna be here in the morning. You all right? And Dante? He -- I h-- I haven't been able to get ahold of him. Do you have any idea when he's coming back? I haven't heard anything yet. Okay. Mr. Corbin, it's time to get you downstairs. Okay. Listen to me. All right. Um, I promise you -- I'm gonna take him home tonight, and I will bring him here by the time the sun comes up. Sorry, I can't allow that. Do you understand that he can't stay in a cell by himself? It's not my call, sir. Hey, Sonny, my wrists are hurting, I'm tired, and I want to -- I want to go home. Can we -- can we go home now? Okay, when we met, you were so vulnerable, and now you're you again. And I'm -- I'm not talking about your scars. You know that was never an issue for me. I-I know. No, you are a strong, beautiful, courageous woman with a successful career, and I'm -- I am just afraid that I might not be enough... griffin -- ...that my -- my drive, my passion won't -- it won't live up to yours, a-and now that you're healthy that somehow... I don't know -- that we won't fit anymore. Are you breaking up with me? So, let me get this straight. You want me to vow never to have a r-- [Clears throat] To never have a relationship with my grandchild so you and... my son... can have a family, is that right? Julian, your criminal past could blow our chances of becoming parents. We can't risk it. You can see where my mom was coming from. Not really. I mean, I was trying to do something generous, you know, honor the son that she loved. Okay. Um, I don't want to drudge anything back up now... ...but that's when it all happened. You know, that's when we were all... drowning in grief over Morgan. And that's when you did all that... weirdness with Sonny. I was really messed up then, Joss. And I have apologized for that over and over again. I know, and I've forgiven you, obviously. You're my friend. Am I? I don't see how we're friends if -- if you still think of me that way. I don't. [Sighs] Listen, my mom and I are two different people... but that doesn't mean I can't see things from her perspective. Fair? Fair. So, how are you? How are things with Oscar? I don't know. Oscar, are we good? You tell me. Yeah, we're good. And what about you? Now that we know what the baby's first name isn't going to be, um, what about the last name? Is it gonna be yours or Michael's? I think that depends on Michael. Oh, you're leaving it up to him? No, not really. I-I think it just depends on where our relationship is when the baby's born. Wait. So there's a chance that you and Michael could get back together? What kind of an explosion? It was violent, man. Was anyone hurt? Where was this? At the pay phone. I don't understand. The pay phone? There's nothing wrong with the pay phone. No thanks to that druggie needing a fix. He freaked out when he tried that number for the third time. Okay, so you're saying there wasn't actually an explosion? N-no car backfiring or anything like that? I told you, it wasn't that. Okay, okay, hold on, hold on. Were you here all day? I'm here all day, every day. Where else am I gonna go? Volunteers bring me food, god bless 'em, and other friends pick up a fifth for me once and a while. Okay. Is there anyone else out here that could tell us more? No one ever comes out here except to use that phone, and that's only when they're trying to hide something. Pleasure doing business with you. I'm sorry this didn't pan out how you want it to. I mean, for now maybe block the number, save yourself any aggravation. I'll do that. I will. I -- yeah. I-I want to help you here, Carly, but there's no evidence of a crime b-- no, thank you, thank you for hearing me out. Really. All right. [Sighs] I'll see you later. [Sighs] You think I've lost my mind? No.
Do you not see what -- I can't stay here! Dad, we -- we may not have a choice. No -- Rita is making pot roast. Have you ever had it? No. Dad -- oh, man. It's melt-in-your-- okay, okay -- I can -- I can taste it right now. No, no. No, no. I got to be there! Is this who you're gonna throw in lockup? He doesn't even know where he is, like he didn't know at the art gallery. He's confused. He's -- he's sick. Do you understand me? You can't do this to him! For the record, I don't want to do any of this, okay? This is protocol. Forget protocol! Be a human being for once! I'm gonna need you to calm down and back up.
Dante: Hey. What the hell's going on here? Dominic Pirelli! [Laughs] It's me, Mike -- Mike, your landlord. [Laughs]
Griffin: Wow. [Chuckles] I-I am even worse at this than I thought. That's what you took from my whole speech, that I'm breaking up with you? You're not? No! No. I thought you were breaking up with me. [Chuckles] Are you serious? Yes. Why are you laughing? Well, I-I tend to do that when someone says something completely ridiculous. What do you think I'm gonna do, get bored, trade you in for some shiny new man? No, I don't think you're that shallow or fickle. Well, thank you. But you could decide that you're better off without me. Oh, in what universe -- Ava, you are the most independent woman I've ever met in my whole life. I can't tell you that I love you right this second. And I... I can't tell you that I'm gonna make you my first priority all the time. I-if somebody's in need -- right, I know. You'll go to them and help them, I know. That's just who I am. I completely respect that. But can you
live with it? You know, I love your brother. I always will. Even if you're not together? You know, I believe that once you fall for someone, that feeling never really goes away. It might change, but it's still there. Well, who knows? Raising a kid together -- that has to bring each other closer, right? Oh, nothing would make me happier, believe me. [Sighs] But that is up for Michael to decide. And don't tell him any of this. I won't. I'm serious -- your mom, either. She's already dead-set against us getting back together. I mean, she would flip if she found out I was even hoping for it. No. Don't worry. [Chuckles] My lips are sealed. Thank you. You know, sometimes it just feels like the whole universe is against me. Well, not me. And not Oscar, right? Well, in that case... could I ask you a favor? Tell Lucas I'll do, you know, whatever he wants. [Sighs] Thank you. Yeah. I mean, you know, let him know that I'm here if he ever changes his mind and he wants to, uh -- you know, for me to be in his life or for me to be in his, um, your child's life. I'll tell him. [Scoffs] Are you kidding?! Of course I'll come to your baby shower. Yeah? Yes. [Chuckles] I mean, it's my little niece or nephew in there. [Sighs] I know. Do you think Carly will have a problem with it? Let her. She can't tell me who to be friends with. You know, I haven't been out here since Morgan was killed. I just couldn't bring myself to see the place where it happened. Can't say I blame you. That moment will be seared on my brain forever. I was on the couch reading a magazine, waiting for Sonny to come home, and I heard the door, and I smiled. [Chuckles] And then I saw him. Sonny was covered in dirt, and he was soaking wet. I asked him what happened. He said he was in the river, and I thought, "the river? What the hell are you doing in the river?" Then he told me to sit down... ...and I knew right then that something terrible had happened, something that I didn't want to hear, you know, something that I wouldn't hear. He kept telling me over and over again that Morgan was dead, and I kept saying that it was impossible, you know? I kept trying to call him over and over again. You kept trying to call Morgan? Yeah, 'cause I had -- I had to get in touch with him. I had to reach him. I had to hear his voice. But he never picked up the phone. [Sighs] And my mom came over, and... ...she gave me a sedative. In the... morning when I woke up, I-I convinced myself that it was all a bad dream, you know, that, um, everything was fine. Everything wasn't fine. Morgan was dead... and he wasn't coming back, you know? [Sighs] I would give anything... anything to go back, to -- just to have been there to stop it. I know. [Sniffles] One of the, um -- I don't think you know this. One of the worst parts -- I mean, it was all horrible, but, um... for a while there, we thought Sonny was responsible. How? Tensions between him and Julian Jerome were bad. They were really bad, so Sonny gave the order to get rid of Julian. And he called it off at the last minute, but we thought he was too late, you know, and because of Sonny, our son was gone. And if Sonny killed Morgan, that means I killed Morgan. No. Carly -- yes, it did, because I insisted on being with Sonny. I had to be with Sonny no matter what, right? But thank god it all turned out to not be true, so... [Sighs] It doesn't make the grief any less. No. No. Sometimes, you know, y-- you think you're gonna get some peace or closure just... ...just because you have the answers... but it's still a loss. Morgan's still gone. He's still gone. He's still gone. I figured something was up when he called me Dominic, but Alzheimer's? Yeah, we got the diagnosis today. [Sighs] I'm sorry, Sonny. It's hard to wrap your head around that kind of... who's gonna take care of him? Well, he doesn't -- he -- he has a-a girlfriend that he's been living with for like five years. Well, that's promising, right? Yeah. I mean, they seemed solid when I want out there. But, you know, an illness changes things. I'm so... so angry I wasn't here to get the call from Ava's gallery. No, that's not -- then this wouldn't have gone this far. It's not your fault. Yeah, but the problem is now I can't fix it, either. Now he is gonna have to spend the night here. I can't leave him here. Well, don't worry about it. He'll be with me. I'll stay with him downstairs. No, I can't ask you that. You don't have to ask me. It's done. Okay? It's family. Thank you. Go home. I'll take care of Mike. Yeah. All right, Dad.
Sonny: I got to go, so I'll see you in the morning, okay? You're leaving? Yeah, you know, we got to -- we got to kick this guy out of here. But, uh, I'll be with you the whole night, okay? Uh...uh... yeah, o-okay. Dad, listen to me. You're in good hands. I got this. Go on. All right. [Sighs] What do you say we get these cuffs off you, huh?
Sonny and his quack doctor -- they're wrong, you know? I'm fine. You got to straighten him out, Dominic. Uh, Dante, remember? Dominic was a name I went by when I was working undercover. Oh, yeah, you didn't... I'm just messing with you. [Chuckles] You're Dante. That's right. Yeah. Your grandson. Yeah. I-I-I hear you got a family now. Oh, yeah. Yeah. You, uh, you got to -- you got to check this out. Ah. Wow. Laura was always such a beauty. Ah, lulu. Lulu. [Stammers] All those "l" names with the Spencers. Oh, tell me about it. This is, uh, Rocco and charlotte. Aww. Kids. You're a lucky man. Yeah. Yeah, don't I know it? You got to come meet everyone, you know? Yeah. Hey, give me time to get some presents. Hey, is there a toy store near here? Uh, you know, we can -- we can do that tomorrow, you know? Why not now? Well, 'cause you got to -- you got to stay here tonight. Oh. With you? Yeah, with me. Okay. So, I see you decided to forgo procedure altogether. One second. I assume you're commenting on the lack of handcuffs on this man? Well, if so, you can go straight to hell. When I was at my lowest, you were there. When I needed saving, you put me first. Now I'm healed. And of course, I don't mind if you give somebody else attention when they need it. You will get plenty, I promise. And as for not being able to tell me that you love me... I hope some day you'll be able to say it and mean it. And if not to me... then to someone... because I really want you to know what this feels like... being in love. I'm not falling. I'm flying. You are enough, griffin. You're all I want. Please do not doubt that. As long as you do the same thing. Um, I need to go. Everything okay? Yeah, I just had an errand that I completely forgot to run, so -- oh, okay. Well, thank you so much, again, for the shoes. Yeah, yeah. No problem. I'll see you soon? Definitely. Okay. Bye, Oscar. Yeah, see ya. You two have fun. [Sighs] Oh, thank god you're here. You know, I have something that I want to tell you. What is it? What's wrong? My dad's sick. Okay. What do you mean "sick"? How sick? With what? He's got Alzheimer's.
Chinchilla update -- got that chinchilla after all. Say what up, Rocco. Sonny, I'm sorry. What does this mean? I mean, is there -- is there a timetable? Well, griffin says that a-a man at my father's age -- the -- the life -- the average life expectancy is like four to eight years, but that's if you catch it from the beginning. We don't know how long this has been going on. Don't do that. Uh -- I can hear it in your voice. You're blaming yourself. Don't do that. I should've checked up on my dad. Sonny -- but this is not -- it's not your fault. No. I know, I know, I know. I just don't know what to do. I don't know how to deal with this. My father's losing his mind, and there's no cure. They can't tell me... [Sighs] They can't tell me how long he's gonna live, and I can't plan anything, you know what I mean? Hey. Don't have the strength right now. No. Come here. Stop, stop. Hey, look at me. We're gonna figure it out. How, Carly? I don't know. I don't know, but we will. We'll figure it out, okay? I just wish -- I...just -- I just wish I was able to give him something good to hold on to, you know? There's nothing good about this. [Sighs] Where do we go from here? Back to my place -- do what we should have done on valentine's day. [Chuckles] Sounds like a plan. And as for the rest of it, the future... we'll just take it one day at a time. You are the best thing that ever happened to me, Ava Jerome. Likewise. Is this how it works, family members get special privileges around here? [Scoffs] Wait a minute, Mike. You know what, rook? You could've done the decent thing and shown a sick man some sympathy, and you didn't. I do have sympathy. No, you don't. No, you don't. He doesn't belong here, and you know that. Put yourself in my position. Been there, done that. I am brand-new to this department. The last thing I'm gonna do in my first week is let a well-known crime figure come in here and start bending the rules. You know what? A crime figure didn't come in here. A son who is terrified for his father came in here. You know what? The guy who used to sit in that chair, he would've understood.
Mike: Right, Dante. Come on, man. R-Rita's gonna worry if I don't get home soon. Okay, Mike. He really doesn't understand? Yeah, what do you think? Come on, Mike. Let's go. Now he's in, uh, in jail, scared out of his mind. At least he's got Dante with him. Yeah, thank god for that. So, what -- what do want? You said you wanted to say something to me. It's not important... at all. W-we need to talk about the next steps for Mike. Yeah, but can we do that later? Yeah. I'm gonna go in the kitchen and get some pots together, make some carbonara sauce. Can I help you? [Chuckles] That's pretty funny. Yeah. What? I...? Really? I mean, I can -- I can drink the wine while you cook. I can help with that. That you can. [Laughs] I love you. I love you, too. [Sighs] This is gonna tear him apart. He's gonna need us. And we'll be here. [Sighs]
Man: Hey, girlie-girl. That box better be full. There's more in the car. This is all I could carry. So? Don't leave me in suspense. How -- how did it go? I was a regular tom hanks. They believed you? Ate up the story like it was their last meal.
