Episode #13904 ~ An old foe of Nikolas' surfaces; Griffin feels remorseful; Carly makes an apology.
Provided By Suzanne
(This still needs extensive editing)Carly: To my mother, for her years of dedication to General Hospital, for which she's finally getting the recognition she deserves. [Chuckles] Aww!
Sonny: Here, here. To Bobbie. 'Bobbie, Bobbie. Aww! Congratulations. Aww. Thank you. It's really nice to be celebrated -- if I do say so myself. [Laughter] And while I appreciate the champagne and the accolades, the really best part is just being here surrounded by the people that I love. Not everyone.
Morning, Nina. I was just going over your calendar. Oh, Nina's lucky to have such an efficient assistant. Michael. Hey. You, uh, haven't been answering your cell phone. Yeah, well, I needed a little bit of time to cool off. Yeah, me, too. Hey, look, why don't we, um -- why don't we go out tonight, huh? Have some dinner -- somewhere quiet. We can talk. I'd like that. Yeah? Yeah. Okay. Well, uh, in the meantime, I would like to ask you to join me at my grandmother's reception. They're currently celebrating as we speak. We can go together. I don't think so. So, how does that sound, Charlotte? You get to spent part of the time with me and Lulu, and then part of the time with, uh, Nina and Valentin. But where do I spend Thanksgiving? And Christmas?
Valentin: Well, we can talk about that more when the time comes. But how will Santa know where I am? [Speaking French] Your papa said, "Santa will know where to find you." He's right. Because Santa's magic? Santa is magic. Well, we have to get to aunt Bobbie's brunch. You want to go upstairs and grab your bag? Okay. Okay. [Chuckles] [Clears throat] Do your cheeks hurt? I don't know. I lost all the feeling in my face. Well, the sacrifice is worth it. We've agreed to be civil for Charlotte's sake. Well, Charlotte is not in here. We have got a lot to discuss, so what do you say we get down to business? You know, I really don't see the point in this. We already know that there is no plastic surgeon here that can help me. That clinic was my only hope. Okay, would you stop being so negative? Have a little faith. Hey, Deanna, hey. Dr. Griffin, you're back. I thought your leave was "open-ended." Yes, uh, yeah. It ended, uh, a little sooner than I thought. Look, I, uh, I spoke with Dr. Guerra's office this morning. They said they could squeeze us in. Um... yep. I'll go flag him down for you. Thank you. Hey. Maybe we could just reschedule, you know, to a time where I haven't been in a plane all night. You need to see a specialist. Look, even if they can't restore your face, Dr. Guerra can make sure no further damage was done. Well, I have every confidence that Dr. Klein's treatment was working. I was on my way back to a normal existence. Until my conscience got the better of me. Whoa. Hi. Hey. What is that for? Well, I thought carrying you across the threshold was probably out of the question. Don't even joke. The last thing you need is to end yourself back in the hospital. Oh, what's the worst that could happen? I doubt my bed's even cold. Really? Mm-hmm. Is that what you want? Or do you want to be here with me waiting on you hand and foot? Are you going to be my nurse? Yeah, I'm a good nurse. Yeah? Oh, you are a good nurse. That's my favorite part of getting better. Let's get in there. I'm going to put on a nurse's outfit for you. Oh, look at this! Yeah. Scout and Danny are at the Quartermaines' while you recuperate, but they got together with Jake. And they wanted you to know how glad they were that you're home. Goes double for me. Can't tell you how much I missed you guys. Well, we missed you, too. And if there's one thing we know about you, is that you will always find your way back to your family. Mm. [Huxley groans] Oh, I should have passed on that last bottle of dom. Good God! Who the hell are you?
Let's start with Christmas. Would you prefer that Charlotte spend the day itself or just Christmas eve? Both, actually, because Nina has a two-day celebration planned. Yes, yes, I am inviting family -- jay and Maxie, too. Since when are you on speaking terms with Maxie? Well, Maxie is my brother's wife, and jay and I are very close. Then I'm sure they will enjoy celebrating with you, but Charlotte will be at the Quartermaines' -- where Dante's mother will be making dinner. [Clears throat] Uh, like I said, maybe we could talk about this at a later time. We can table the Christmas discussion, but Thanksgiving -- Charlotte will be spending with us. So you're making a unilateral decision? Seems like you made one about Christmas. And what if I say no? Are you going to come in here with a gun and threaten me like your mother did?
Sonny: You okay? Just checking on Michael. He should be here for his grandmother, no matter how Nelle and I feel about each other. Did you reach out to him? I called him. Straight to voicemail. Well, maybe he's busy. Maybe he'll make it up to Bobbie another time. Okay. I hope so. I'm afraid that by trying to warn Michael away from Nelle, I played right into her hands. Look, I know you and my grandmother don't exactly get along, but I'm hoping to change that, all right? Just come on. They're right upstairs. You really think that this is about your grandmother? Yeah, it's her reception. It's about you. After everything that you accused me of the other day, how can you even expect me to -- I didn't accuse you of anything. Oh. Okay, not outright. But you don't approve of me keeping the ring Zach gave me. No, you're right. I don't. I don't approve of that, for all the reasons that I explained. Well, Michael, it's not your call to make! All right? It's mine, and I don't appreciate you judging me. That's fair. Wow. Thank you. We can... agree to disagree about the ring. It's -- it's not about the ring. It's -- you're starting to believe Sharon, aren't you? You think I did something to Zach? Of course, I don't think that. Look, what happened to Zach was an accident. It was a tragedy. The family needed a reason -- someone to blame. And you're just okay with them blaming me? No, of course I'm not! Look, I know Zach's family gave you hell, but I am not them. I'm the guy who over the last year got -- got to know you, care about you. I was hoping that -- that would count for something. And we could move on and get past this. Is that possible? You know, for all your cynical talk when the chips were down, you came through -- for a total stranger, might I add. All I did was give the man a paperclip. And if I'd known I was putting my life on the line, believe me, I would have left him to his own devices. Would you just own this? You did the right thing. All right. But I didn't have much of a choice. I-I kept hearing someone's voice in my head. Really? Yeah, yeah. It was Nikolas. Cassadine? We didn't start out as friends, of course. It was more A... spirited bout of one-upmanship. That is, until the weeping niad. The what? The weeping what? [Chuckles] You know what, I'll give you all the details another time when I'm not exhausted from such a journey, but long story short, Nikolas saved me from a man named Huxley lynch. Explain yourself, sir. Why did you attack me? I didn't. D-do you deny tying me to this chair? No, I did that. Outrageous! Release me at once! No. What do you mean, "no"? I-I take exception at your barbaric treatment. You attacked me with a pipe -- I'm not going to let that happen again. Valentin was threatening to shoot me, and Nikolas jumped in the way. He literally gave his life for mine. Wow, that had to hit you pretty hard. I think... I'm still processing it, really. And I wanted to repay Nikolas somehow, you know? So I vowed to do the only thing that I could do, and I promised myself that I would be a better person, that I would do for others what he had done for me. And some job I've done of that, right? Listen, as -- as someone who tries to follow the example of the divine, trust me, it is not always easy. Well, I did more than fall a little short. I betrayed Nikolas' memory. I sold him out to fix my face. I'm not so selfless after all. There -- there still may be a chance that we can make things right with your testimony. Griffin, listen, I know that you're trying to help me. And I appreciate it. I do. And I-I am so grateful for your friendship. But you have completed your good deed. You rescued me from that clinic, so now our -- our business is officially concluded.
I can't be with someone who doesn't trust me. Well, then, we have nothing to worry about, because I do. Are you sure? I trust you enough to be honest with you -- even when I disagree. I'd like you to trust me the same way. You want me to disagree with you? [Scoffs] I'm not saying you should go out of your way to clash with me, but I don't think we should pretend to agree with each other when we don't. All right, that leads to resentment, which leads to fights. And even though I-I don't mind the makeup process... [Chuckles] Me, too. I'd rather just agree to disagree. Is that something you can support? Absolutely. Absolutely? Yeah. Okay. So what do you say? You want to -- you want to be my date to brunch? I have to work. You just said that you weren't expecting Nina for a while. Yes, but I still like to have everything organized by the time she comes in. And I don't think I need to remind you why going to brunch with Bobbie is a terrible idea. Oh, [Chuckles] No, you don't. But look, the only way we're going to change this is if we show up. The more we interact with my family, the more we'll have in common. So can you come with me? Come on. I-I just -- I just don't think I'm up for it today. Okay. [Inhales deeply] Well... then, I am not going, either. No. Michael, we've talked about this, all right? If you don't go, that's just going to confirm their suspicions that I'm trying to turn you against them, all right? So you have to go and prove them wrong. Okay? Do it for me. Okay, I'll do it for you. All right. [Sighs] Talk to you soon. Bye. It makes me very happy to see you finally get the recognition that you deserve -- oh, well. For everything that you have contributed to this community. I guess I could say the same for you, Madame board member. [Both chuckle] Oh, by the way, um, are you expecting brad and Lucas? I was hoping, but they had a meeting that they absolutely could not cancel or reschedule. I'm assuming it has something to do with Lucas' surgical fellowship. Oh! Mm-hmm. Valerie? Do you know something we don't know? Well, they had me over for dinner last week, and I may have found some pamphlets lying around. The subject rhymes with schmadoption. [Gasps] Oh, my goodness. Brad and Lucas are thinking about adopting a baby. That's fabulous! Oh, my -- oh, don't get my hopes up. Hey, you didn't hear it from me. And it looks like we need more champagne. [Chuckles] Well, you know, if they give me another grandchild, I suppose I can forgive them for not coming to my brunch. [Both laugh] Oh, yes, speaking of grandchildren, Dante and Lulu are on their way, but they had to go over to Wyndemere to pick up Charlotte. You know, I really admire you. If I were in your position, forced to interact with the man who killed someone I love, I wouldn't be handling it with nearly as much grace. You expect me to believe that my mother threatened you with a gun? It can't be all that surprising. Laura's feelings about me are no secret. I thought about pressing charges, but the last thing I want to do is throw my daughter's grandmother in jail. Oh, you best keep that in your back pocket to use as leverage later on, right? Well, if she ever threatens me again, I won't hesitate to contact social services.
I'm ready. Okay. Um, say bye to your papa and Nina. Goodbye, Nina. Will you check on my bears while I'm gone? Of course I will. Bye, papa. I love you. [Speaks French] Mm. Um... when were you going to tell me that Laura threatened to shoot you? The gun wasn't even loaded. That's not the point. She's attacking you -- verbally, now physically. You see, this is why I didn't want to tell you. I didn't want you to get upset. Upset doesn't begin to describe how I feel. Listen, my darling, I am more than capable of defending myself against Laura Spencer. Look at it this way -- the more erratic she behaves, the weaker Lulu's position is. Okay, well, let's talk about this so-called joint custody, 'cause Lu seems to think that it means that she can have Charlotte whenever she wants. I mean, demanding that she take her for Thanksgiving? Well, Thanksgiving's a month away. A lot can happen between now and then.
[Cell phone rings]
Go ahead, take it. I have to go to work.
Hello. What is it? Great. Thank you for the update. I'm sorry. [Chuckles] That was a bit harsh. [Sniffles] I can never hope to repay you for everything that you did for me. And I don't just mean rescuing me from the clinic -- I mean before that. Forcing me out of the house, getting me to be human again. You were always human. Sure didn't feel like it. You know, in hindsight now, I can see that you were simply offering me friendship. I have not had a lot of friends, so I think that's why. I'm not going to make that mistake again. I'm not going risk thinking that your kindness and your pity mean anything more. Ava, I meant what I said. I've -- I've never pitied you. Look, I-I've got to own my part in this. Okay? I thought I was showing you that I cared. I-I never thought that my actions could be misinterpreted. The truth is, I was being insensitive and was only focusing on my feelings -- o-oblivious to yours, and I don't want to do that again. But I also don't want to lose your friendship. You mean too much to me. It's -- it's your call to make. And I will -- I will respect your decision, no matter what it is. Ms. Jerome? Dr. Guerra will see you know. Of course. Thank you. You know something? What? It is pretty quiet without the kids running around here. Mm-hmm. Kind of feels like when we first moved in together. Whoa, that seems like a lifetime ago. I guess now is the, uh, first day of the rest of our lives. Maybe we should make the most of it. Oh, yeah? Mm-hmm. What'd you have in mind? Well, I had a few things in mind. I can show you right up there. No, but the doctors said you had to take it easy. Well, I guess you're going to have to be gentle with me. Gentle? Mm-hmm. Can you do that? I think so. Yeah? Yeah. You tried to swing this at my head. It was an accident. Well, I-if you must know, I'm trying to escape some unsavory characters, and when I saw you come onboard, I assumed that they had sent you to finish me off. Surely you can see why I would jump to such a conclusion. You appear to be a man of action, shall we say? You certainly know a thing or two about restraining a fellow, don't you?
Morning! How was your meeting? Too much tension too early in the morning. And I need my coffee, please. My coffee. Uh, d-did perks not have it ready for you? I called them immediately when you texted me. Oh, I forgot! I was supposed to pick it up. I was just so mad on the launch ride over here. God, must have been a lot of tension. Yeah. Can you, uh, go upstairs and get me a mocha, please? Please. Uh, uh, from the restaurant? Yeah. Get one for yourself, too. Why don't you go to perks? 'Cause they're really the only place that has the mocha that you like, you know? Oh, yeah. You're right. On second thought, get me a macchiato. Is there a reason you don't want to go to the restaurant? Oh, Michael. You made it! Yeah, of course I wouldn't miss your brunch. Glad you came, buddy. Yeah, we both are.
Michael: Me, too. So come and sit by me. Because if it weren't for you, I wouldn't have been awarded this prestigious honor in the first place. Oh, come on, grandma. You earned this on your own. [Laughs] You see, Michael did the right thing. Yes. Nelle tried to keep him from his family -- didn't work. We haven't been properly introduced. Huxley lynch. And you are...? Not going to answer, I see. Well, then, um, allow me to tell you a little about myself. I'm on a business trip. Ah, well, normally, I take slightly better accommodations, but as I said, I'm trying to keep a low profile. I made some investments on behalf of some associates, but thanks to the plummeting exchange rate, they didn't pay off. It's as if they blame me for Brexit. Brexit? The British exit from the EU. How could you not know? Have you been living under a rock? So if this is the first day of the rest of our lives... then what are you planning on doing? With the day or the rest of our lives? No, no. Today -- I'm clear on today. We are obviously resting. This is resting? Mm-hmm. I'm talking about the rest of our lives. [Sighs] Well, the good news is I don't have to do anything right away. Okay. We're fortunate -- financially, we're set. So I guess if you'd like, we could gather up the kids and sail off into the sunset. Ooh. Do you think you can really handle being stranded on a deserted island with me and the kids? I think I can handle learning how to handle it. [Laughs] Yeah, but you're probably right. I need a purpose, um, though I have a very specialized skillset. You do have a special skillset. Mm-hmm? Mm-hmm. I don't think it's one you can put down on a resume. No, it's not. [Chuckles] It's a legitimate world. I'm just a blank slate. [Crying] I just want to be beautiful. Hey. You are beautiful. Give it me straight, doc. I can take it. Honestly, I'm astonished. I reviewed your file, and the improvement is incredible. Yeah? [Chuckles] Well, imagine how I'd look if they actually finished the job. I need to get your bloodwork down to the lab. I'll be right back. [Door closes] Oh, my God. Wow. If not for the jaw, it's like nothing even happened. One more treatment -- that's all it would've taken. Just one more. [Knock on door] Come in. Hello, Ava.
What are you doing here?
Valentin: I heard you were back in town. I wanted to see the results for myself. Well, it's, uh, quite an improvement. I half-expected for them to do a little bit more. [Chuckles] Well, maybe if I hadn't had to run for my life, I could've finished the treatments. Did we have trouble with our stay? One tiny infraction -- and they threatened to drug me and God knows what else. That was not part of our deal, Valentin. No, our deal was I would serve as your reference. If once inside the clinic you couldn't behave yourself, that's out of my hands. Well, it's not out of mine. I can give the court one more statement -- this time telling the truth -- that I watched you kill Nikolas Cassadine in cold blood. I'm not surprised you don't keep up with global news. You're an American. Although, considering you traveled to Russia, I had thought you might have a-a passing interest in the world outside of fidget spinners and Kardashians. This is going to be a long ride. A little conversation would help pass the time. Clearly, not your preferred form of entertainment. Well, then... could I at least persuade you to untie me? A couple months ago, Michael wanted you to work for ELQ. Have you thought about that? As much as I appreciate Michael offering me a position, I don't want to take a job that's going to keep me away from you and the kids for months at a time. That's right. Yes. That was less than ideal. I wouldn't want that at all. Good. Because actually, before I got shot, I was thinking about a possible career. Oh, yeah? Mm-hmm. And what would that be?
Carly: I'm sorry. I'm sorry that I snapped at you the other day. It's okay. It's not okay. I was upset, and I could've handled it better. But I'm glad you showed up anyway, for your grandmother's sake. Uh, Nelle was actually supposed to come with me, but she had work. She insisted that I come without her. Nelle is more supportive of my family ties than you think she is. No matter what I do, I'll always be under this cloud of suspicion with Michael's family. And there's nothing for me to do. There's no way to get away from it. No matter how hard I try. We're very similar. [Chuckles] I had a troubled past. So what did you do to get through it? I had help from friends. People believed in me, like Michael believes in you. And I should give credit where credit's due -- um, Maxie helped me a lot. She gave me advice. Well, don't keep me in suspense. "Fake it 'til you make it." If you act like people shouldn't be judging you, eventually, they'll stop. And that is true. In the meantime, there's always caffeine. [Clicks tongue] Right. [Sighs] Hi. I-I'm so glad you were able to come, Charlotte. Me, too. I want to give aunt Bobbie the present I made for her. Oh, nice. Let's, uh, let's go do it. [Chuckles] Hey. Hey. So where's Rocco? Oh, he is at his friend Tyler's birthday party. Oh. How fun. [Chuckles] So, um, how did it go with Valentin? It was a little tense, but... no one pulled a gun. He told you. You thought he wouldn't, mom? What were you thinking? Shh. I'm sorry. It's just that when you -- when you told me that you agreed to shared custody all because Ava had retracted her statement, I don't know. Something just snapped inside me. I wanted him to feel the terror -- I -- the terror that I know Nikolas felt, even if that was just for one second. I get that, mom. [Sighs] I do. And honestly, I probably would have done the exact same thing. But from now on, like you said... I know. ...We have to play this smart. I'm sorry. Okay, as much as I would love to put the fear of God into Valentin, he holds all the cards. The only way I can keep seeing my daughter is if we play nice. Because we are stuck with him. And I don't see that changing. Not unless there's some miraculous turnaround in the civil suit. I'm sure the courts will be very interested in what I have to say. That would be the second time you've changed your testimony. The first time, you became an unreliable witness, and this time, your word would be officially meaningless. Mm. We'll see, won't we? Yeah, I guess we will. That's if it goes to trial. At this point, there's no guarantee the judge'll even hear it. Why don't you just enjoy your victory? [Chuckles] What victory is that? Well, your face may not be perfect, but it's a vast improvement, and you have me to thank for it. So how about a little gratitude? Gratitude? I'll give you gratitude. Stay away from her!you were going to be here. Yeah, I'm just picking up coffee for Nina, so just -- just pretend I'm not here. Well, you are here, so why don't you, uh, say hi to my family? Come on. Okay. I might as well. Okay. Grandma? Nelle, uh, wanted to stop by and congratulate you. Oh. Nelle, you shouldn't have. Really. Grandma. You know what, Michael? This was -- this was a mistake, so I'm just going to -- I'm gonna go, okay? You couldn't have played that any closer to the vest? Really? Hey, are you all right? Yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. I am not gonna let you hurt her. Take it easy, Father. She attacked me. You're not authorized to be in this room. Well, I knocked. Leave. Or I'm going to have security throw you out. Okay. I'll leave. I just wanted to see how Ava was doing. Congratulations on your improved appearance. Too bad you couldn't stick around long enough for them to finish the job. [Sighs] God, he's a bastard. I'm so sorry. But he's right, though. He's absolutely right. Look at me. All I needed was one more treatment. Well, let's hear it. What's this new career you're thinking about? Well, I'm thinking I need to wait just a little bit before I say anything. What? Wait, what are you talking about? I am your wife. You see that? Mm. Yeah. You got to tell me. What, do you think I'm going to jinx it or something? Maybe. [Laughs] I'm kidding, I'm kidding. I just -- I don't want to jinx it. I need to get a few things straightened out, and once I have something solid, then you'll be the first to know. Okay. All right. I'm going to hold you to that. Hold me to whatever you want. All right. But now I'm just an unemployed man with nothing but time on his hands. Hmm. Nothing but time? Mnh-mnh. So what do you think you want to do with that free time of yours? Oh, I just got a few fresh ideas. Uh-huh? Want me to run them by you? Yeah. Can you help me do that? Okay. Oh, my God. [Laughs] I can let you get up and stretch your legs. Gratitude! You're a gentleman and a scholar. Then I'm going to have to tie you back up. What? No! No! Eventually, I'm going to have to sleep. Slumber like a babe, my lad. You're perfectly safe with me. Yeah, when you're tied up. Uh, just to reiterate, my ill-considered defensive move was the result of a misunderstanding. Yeah, I don't want any more defensive moves. [Stammers] There won't be. Heavens, no, no. In fact, allow me to demonstrate my good faith. I can't help but notice that you have no luggage to speak of, and I myself am traveling light. But I am carrying a small grip, which I took the precaution of securing behind that tub. Help yourself to the contents. There, there, you see? As good as my word. Ah, yes. Reading material. More precious than gold in our current circumstances. Uh, I wish I had thought to pack a little Proust. I've always meant to read "remembrance of things past".
S for you, Aunt Bobbie.
Bobbie: Well, thank you, sweetheart. It's a picture of you with all my cousins. Aww. It's beautiful. I love it.
Lulu: What's this?
Charlotte: I made a drawing for you, too. You did? Of what? All my parents. We're one big, happy family. Just like you said, mommy. Special delivery. Those are lovely. I thought you were working from home today. I had an errand to run. What kind? Oh, logistical -- having to do with, uh, child custody. Mm. Did you work everything out? Suffice to say, I don't think anything is ever going to take Charlotte away from us again. I thought I could change my testimony. I thought I could make things right. You can. No. No, I had the chance. I didn't take it. And there's no making up for what I've done. Oh, I don't believe that. Would you please stop that? That might work with your parishioners, but it doesn't work with me. There's some things that you can't take back! There are some things that no matter how hard you try, you can't undo. So stop acting like I can be saved, okay? Because I know I can't. So why do you keep wasting your time? Because I have faith, Ava. In you. I'm going to have to have a chat with my mom about how to deal with Nelle. But Bobbie's never made a secret of her feelings. And Nelle knew exactly what she was walking into. That's what I'm afraid of. Nelle got the reaction she was hoping for, Sonny, one she was sure Michael would see. Nelle, you can't take what my grandmother says personally. Okay, well, how should I take it? We just... we have to get through this. All right? Or it will always be like this. You know, I wish that were true, Michael, but you're forgetting that I've already been through all of this with the Grants. They were determined to think the worst of me, just like your family, so -- so there is nothing that you can do to make this better. What do you think? Late breakfast? Really? The doctor said it would be a while for your appetite to come back. Clearly, my appetite has come back. Must be a quick healer. Yeah. Something came back. You know what? There's no food in the whole house, so I'm going to have to go to Kelly's and pick up something to eat. No, no, you don't have to go to Kelly's. We can, uh, get it delivered. No. This way, you can work on that surprise of yours... whatever it is. Okay, well, hurry. Okay. Okay.
Yes, hello. I'd like to speak to one of your prisoners, please. Julian Jerome.
Patient 6: What is this?
Huxley: I'm afraid I don't follow. It's a newspaper. No. This date. This date can't be right. Well, no. Of course not. It's over a week old. I bought it off a stand on my way to St. Petersburg. I'm talking about the year. Well, what about it? It's not a misprint, is there? [Laughs] Imagine that. The old London observer got the year wrong. That would make it a collector's item. Are you telling me it's 2017?
