(This still needs extensive editing)
Maxie: Oh, hey. I mean... [Clears throat] Welcome home, honey.
Nathan: Wow. You look amazing. You sleeping?
Maxie: Yeah, I've been waiting... a really long time. I guess we're gonna need some new candles.
Nathan: Yeah, I'm sorry. Something came up at the end of my shift. Kind of trying to make myself indispensable at work, so I stayed.
Maxie: Oh, well, you're already indispensable to me.
Nathan: Yeah, Max, I just -- I can't do this tonight.
Elizabeth: So, what are you gonna do about finding Ava?
Griffin: You don't think I'm overreacting?
Elizabeth: Valentin's non-answer definitely sounded ominous.
Griffin: Yeah. Yeah, Valentin has little regard for the sanctity of human life. I-I-I have no doubt he will do whatever it takes to make sure Ava doesn't have a change of heart about testifying for Spencer.
Elizabeth: As I understand it, Ava was the only other person in the room when Nikolas was shot.
Griffin: She's the only one that can say Valentin killed Nikolas in cold blood. I'm sure she's in trouble. I have to help.
Elizabeth: But how?
Franco: So you weren't my twin, but you were like a brother to me. And imagine that --
[Pounding on door]
Scott: Oh, hey. You're just the guy I'm looking for. I got a gift for you -- a big, fat gift. What's the matter with you? You look like you just lost your best friend.
Franco: In a way, I did.
Sonny: Who is this? You got something to say, say it.
Brick: Sonny. Max told me to come on back.
Sonny: Time's up. We're done. [Slams phone down]
Brick: Something going on?
Sonny: Uh... somebody just called my private line.
Brick: Safe line?
Sonny: It's reserved for my inner circle. Very few people have that number.
Brick: It could have been a misdial.
Sonny: No, no, no. Ever since Petrov was killed, a wrong number is not a coincidence that I'm buying.
[In St. Petersburg, Russia]
Dr. Klein: I admit, I'm impressed. I thought I had you too drugged to do more than stare out a window. But you had enough fine motor control to write down this number. Why was it so important? Who are you to Sonny? And what did you think he could do for you?
Maxie: You're turning me down?
Nathan: Hey, don't get the wrong idea, okay? You are insanely beautiful, and I appreciate all of the effort that you spent setting all this up, and I love you. I just can't do it right now.
Maxie: Okay. But I spent all day preparing for our special night. I even tried a recipe.
Nathan: You cooked?
Maxie: Yeah. I found an interesting recipe on Crimson's website. Who knew that lemon zest was just the yellow part of the peel and -- and not the white? Or that ginger isn't just for ginger snaps anymore?
Nathan: It's a brave new world.
Maxie: I was all set. It was going great, except...
Nathan: Except? Well, did you know that there's, like, a gross little package of innards in the cavity of a chicken? And it's wrapped in, of all things, paper.
Nathan: [Laughs] That...would explain the smell.
Maxie: Yeah, the chicken didn't survive. Or the pan. So we will just have to exhaust ourselves with passion tonight and order takeout later. Please be in the mood. I need to feel like I have some sort of purpose for my life.
Nathan: Max, babe, it's not -- it's got nothing to do with my mood. It's got everything to do with yours.
Scott: I didn't know that you had a best friend -- or any friends for that -- no offense.
Franco: None taken. It was a long time ago.
Scott: Okay, so who is this that we're talking about?
Franco: Remember the photograph that I showed to you?
Scott: Oh, come on! I told you, that's old hat!
Franco: Well, I went to see my mom and ask her about it. And she was all packed up and ready to leave for a cruise and on the phone with, of all people, Heather.
Scott: Oh, brother, this just gets worse. Yeah. But... my mom did finally tell me the truth. The kid in the photograph is Jason's identical twin.
Scott: S-Susan Moore?
Franco: Susan Moore.
Scott: So... uh, she gave birth to twins?
Franco: Yeah. Nobody realized that she was pregnant. She didn't even know until they arrived. And Alan thought he was only gonna have one kid, so Susan gave the other kid to my mom to make sure that Alan didn't take that kid, too.
Scott: So she was then gonna go get the kid, but she died. Oh, wow. I didn't see any of this coming my way here.
Scott: So, if there's two Jasons, where is the other one now?
Griffin: Look, I haven't come up with a viable plan yet to save Ava. All I know is she's in St. Petersburg.
Griffin: No. St. Petersburg, Russia. This place that -- that Valentin sent her operates in secret. They have a -- a strict referral process and top-notch security. I have no idea how I'm gonna get in, but I will.
Elizabeth: Okay, well, Ava's pretty good at taking care of herself. Some people think she's dangerous.
Griffin: Look, maybe before the fire, Ava struck fear into people, but since she's been burned, she's much more vulnerable.
Elizabeth: Yeah. An incident like that is life-changing, yes.
Griffin: Ava's not out to hurt anyone. Look, even if she is, we don't know what she's up against at this place that Valentin sent her.
Elizabeth: Okay, well, have you thought about maybe going to the police?
Griffin: And telling them what? What? That Ava Jerome, she went to a clinic in Russia voluntarily, and now I have a bad feeling about it with no proof that her life's in jeopardy?
Elizabeth: Yeah, no, I see your point.
Griffin: [Sighs] I-I have to handle this myself. I'm going to Russia.
Elizabeth: Oh, is -- is this level of self-sacrifice normal for a priest?
Griffin: I am just concerned for somebody that may be in trouble.
Elizabeth: Right. And you once told me that your relationship with Ava was only about trying to save her soul. I'm wondering if maybe you're starting to have feelings for her.
Dr. Klein: I made a foolish mistake. I let my greed and my vanity get the better of me. To offer so much for a simple job means the job isn't so simple. Ah, the hell with it. [Sighs] I've done what I was paid to do. Someone else can take over. I hope they have a strong cell. And plenty of guards. They'll need them to deal with you.
Sonny: It wasn't Max or my South American partners. It wasn't Jason, as you know, you probably heard he's in a facility. He's in a coma. So it's not him.
Brick: Want me to work my magic, see what I can find out?
Sonny: Absolutely, because after Petrov's death, we cannot be too careful. Payback could just be right around the corner.
Brick: You're right. Got my laptop in the car. I'll see what I can find out about who called you.
Nathan: Max, all of this, this waiting up for me every night and dressing up... it's because you miss work, right?
Maxie: No. I'm just being a good wife.
Nathan: Well, you are a good wife. You're a great wife.
Maxie: Even when I'm on the other side of the country?
Nathan: Yeah, even then, although I missed you like crazy, and I'm unbelievably grateful that you're home.
Maxie: Yeah. Who would use the mini fire extinguisher if I wasn't here?
Maxie: Look, I love our life together, and I don't want you to think that I regret coming home. Our marriage means more to me than any job, and I couldn't live without you.
Nathan: I couldn't live without you, either. That doesn't mean you have to pretend like you don't miss work. Okay? And I'm sorry that Nina won't hire you back. You're always at your best when you're doing what you love.
Maxie: You know, I sent my résumé to like a dozen places, and not one contacted me for an interview. And you're right. I'm not the type of person who could be the little wife that prepares all day for her husband to come home. I need to be interesting again. I need to get my spark back, be desirable.
Nathan: Oh, Max, you're always interesting. You're never gonna lose your spark, and you're definitely desirable.
Maxie: Then why won't you make love to me?
Nathan: Because life as we know it is gonna end tomorrow.
Ava: [Breathing heavily] What the hell's going on here? What the hell is this place? You know something, Ava, I think you're kidding yourself. I don't think anybody here is gonna be able to -- to fix your face. I think the best thing for you to do is to get on a plane and get out of here. [Sighs] But you can't. Don't give up. You can't give up.
Klein: It's Klein. There's been an incident. Because this is a clinic, not a private penitentiary. They're not set up to control him. I'm giving him ketamine. It's a horse tranquilizer. Now, he shouldn't be able to move, and yet he got out of his chair and nearly killed three orderlies. You have to come get him. How soon? And what do you expect me to do with him until then? If I give him much more, it'll stop his heart. I can keep him immobilized until tomorrow, and then he becomes your problem.
Griffin: Ava and I grew close during her recovery. She opened up to me. I hurt her. I made some mistakes inadvertently, but that doesn't make it any easier to accept. I think that she accepted Valentin's offer of this miracle cure because of me.
Elizabeth: I don't hear you denying that you have feelings for her. I know all about getting involved with someone with a questionable past. You didn't judge me when I confided in you about Franco, and I am certainly not gonna judge you about Ava. So, whatever your relationship is with her, you can trust me.
Griffin: Thank you. Thank you for your concern and your friendship. But I have nothing to confess about my feelings for Ava. We're friends. Or at least we were until I screwed up. I'm a priest. I took vows, and I'm not going to break them again. Anyways, this is -- this is all a moot point, because we need to find Ava, and with God's help, I will.
Elizabeth: I think it's gonna take more than prayers to locate her.
Griffin: That's true. Yeah, but I think I -- I think I may know somebody that might help. It's a long shot, but it's worth a try.
Elizabeth: Then you should go for it. I really got to get home. But good luck. [Chuckles]
Griffin: Thank you.
Scott: So Jason has a twin out there walking around?
Franco: Not anymore. The kid in that photo died when he was 3.
Franco: What? How -- how did he die?
Scott: Bad heart. So this kid, he just disappeared from your life? I'm -- I'm -- I'm sorry about that, Franco. That must have been tough on you.
Franco: What am I gonna say? Hey, you know, it was. I was a kid, and he was always around. He was like a brother to me, and then all of a sudden, he was gone.
Franco: My mother told me that he was imaginary, but there was always a little part of me that knew that he was real. Well, he was a part of your life. Yeah, I loved him. Drew. His name -- well, his name was Andrew, but I called him Drew.
Scott: But why did your mother lie to you all this time?
Franco: Well, she couldn't risk anyone knowing that she was raising a Quartermaine baby. They would have gone after her for an illegal adoption. Imagine the fallout for something like that.
Scott: Yeah, yeah, the Quartermaines can be sort of grabby when it comes to family. I can see why Betsy was concerned. So this cockamamie story about an imaginary kid was to save you from any kind of pain when you were young. But when you grew up, why didn't she tell you? I mean, when you flat-out asked her, she took off.
Franco: I don't know why she kept Drew's death a secret.
Scott: Well, maybe there's something that she's not telling you.
Ava: Look at you. What did they do to you? This is my fault. I mean, not completely. I should have just done what they told me to do and left you alone. At least then you'd be sitting in your chair and not drugged unconscious and handcuffed to a bed. I wish there was something I could do to help you.
Franco: Betsy wasn't holding anything back. She wanted to tell the truth. She wanted to come clean. I will tell you, though, I do wonder how my life would be different if Drew had lived and we'd grown up together. Maybe I'd be normal.
Scott: Nah, who wants normal?
Franco: Me, I do. I want normal. I do. I want a completely normal life for Elizabeth and her boys. I don't want my past to ever have to rear its ugly head again.
Scott: So this has really gotten to you, hasn't it?
Franco: [Exhales sharply] Knowing that there was this person who was like a brother to me, and that he died? I don't know how to feel about that.
Scott: You should talk to Elizabeth.
Franco: Mm, no. Betsy swore me to secrecy. She's afraid of reprisal from the Quartermaines. The only reason I'm talking to you is because you're not only my father, but you're my attorney, so you're bound by law to keep your mouth shut.
Scott: Now, come on. Don't you think that Elizabeth deserves to know?
Franco: Since when you are such a big fan of the truth?
Scott: [Sighs] Since my father died. I'm trying to honor his memory by doing the right thing. I wish that you had known him. He was a straight shooter. So I'm telling you this. If you don't tell Elizabeth, you're gonna regret it.
Elizabeth: You're back.
Elizabeth: Hi, Scott.
Scott: Hi, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth: Why didn't you call me?
Franco: Because my dad showed up. I haven't had a chance.
Elizabeth: So, what -- what happened? Did your mom tell you about that other boy in the photo?
Griffin: Hey. Uh, your -- your associate said I could come see you.
Sonny: You're always welcome here. What can I do for you?
Griffin: Um...look, I don't know if I'm overstepping or -- or if this is something that makes you uncomfortable.
Sonny: Well, we won't know unless you ask.
Griffin: Look, I -- I know you're a powerful man, Sonny. A man with resources at his disposal for, uh... locating people that don't want to be found.
Sonny: Who are you looking for?
Brick: Hey. I got a hit on that call. Oh, excuse me, I'm sorry. I didn't know you had a guest.
Sonny: Oh, Father, this is my associate, Brick. He does the cyber security. He just traced a call for me. You find anything?
Brick: Yeah. The call came from Russia. Specifically, St. Petersburg.
Ava: I gave Klein that number you wanted me to call. Obviously, you wanted me to contact someone that could help you, and I ratted you out instead. I am so sorry. It's just -- I gave up so much to be here, and I couldn't risk being kicked out. I wish I could make it up to you.
Patient 6: You can.
Brick: It could be someone from the Petrov family.
Sonny: Well, I doubt that because the Petrovs are from Moscow. Moscow's nowhere near St. Petersburg.
Brick: Okay, so not them.
Sonny: I'm just worried that someone uncovered the number to the safe line. Who -- who would be calling me from St. Petersburg?
Griffin: Hey, I-I think I know. Ava Jerome.
You're worried about the book launch tomorrow where your publisher, Quinn, has promised that the identity of "Ask Man Landers" will be revealed.
Yeah, I mean, it's all over social media. I'm even hearing people talk about it at work.
Yeah, Quinn knows the interest is high, which means phenomenal book sales. Amy tapped in to the insecurities of men and made the lives of their women better. Both sexes are dying to meet their hero -- you. Except I'm not actually "Ask Man Landers," Amy is. Am I missing something? I thought you wanted to help Amy and her brother. I do. Of course I do. It's just -- I'm about to be introduced to the public posing as somebody that I'm not. So best case scenario, they believe it, that I'm actually "Ask Man Landers," and the book sells well. Yeah, Amy gets the money and continues with Chet's medical care. Yeah, yeah, you know, the guys tease me at work for a little while, Jordan's cool with it, and the ruse is never discovered. Doesn't sound so bad to me. Well, yeah, but that's if nothing goes wrong. If something does go wrong, and the lie is discovered, then Amy loses all of the money from the book because the contract is false. Without proper healthcare, her brother's health deteriorates. She loses her job at the hospital, and I get fired from the PCPD. Whoa, you really think Jordan would fire you? She could. I mean, she could do more. She could arrest me for fraud. What?! Well, yeah, Maxie, I signed a book contract knowing I'm not the author of the book, that Amy is. That's, like, the textbook definition of fraud. I go to jail, my career is up in smoke, my life is ruined. Not your entire life. You would still have me. Not if I'm an inmate. You're not going to be an inmate. Look, I might not be able to cook a chicken, but with all the time I had on my hands, is changing tomorrow, especially not yours. Did you find your mother? What'd she say? Well, I should get going. I just came by to give you this. It's the mey oh. Wow. Yes, astonishing amount of money. So, you'll be able to pay Kiki's tuition now. You didn't tell me you wanted to pay for her med school. That's really sweet of you. Yeah. Um, well, Ava's unreliable, and her dad's dead, so -- and she's your family. Yeah, I don't know. I just wanted to help the kid out. Of course you did. [Mouths] Tell her. Okay, so I'm gonna get going. I'll leave you squirrels alone so you can talk about Betsy. I'm sure Elizabeth wants to hear all about what you told me. Thanks, dad. No problem. So long. Okay, so what happened? Did your mom tell you who the other boy in the photo is? Yes. Well, who is he? You think Ava called me from Russia? Was it a woman on the phone? I don't know, 'cause they didn't -- they didn't say anything. Why would you suggest that? Ava's in St. Petersburg. Could she have that number? No, of course not. I mean, Morgan had it, but she could have gotten it from Morgan, I doubt it. Maybe she just called to check on Avery. Yeah, but she has my other numbers. What is she doing in Russia? Working for the Petrovs. Maybe they recruited her. I wouldn't put it past her. No, no, no. Wait, wait, hey, you got it all wrong. Look, Sonny, Ava went to Russia to -- to heal herself, not to wound someone else. With all due respect, Griffin, you don't know anything about Ava or what she's capable of. You're wrong, I do know Ava. Well -- she's -- she's changed. I'm not just talking physically, spiritually, too. Her trip to Russia has nothing to do with you and everything to do with a misunderstanding. What kind of misunderstanding? A miscommunication between Ava and me. I bet. Sonny, listen to me. She's not out to hurt you. In fact, she's the reason that I came here today, to ask for your help in locating the clinic she went to in St. Petersburg. I think she could be in danger. I didn't realize you were awake. Or that you could speak. A little. Why did you hide it? Why didn't you let me know? You don't trust me. Hey. I don't even know you. Yeah, you seem to have some connection to Port Charles, but I'm a pariah there, anyway, and these people have made it perfectly clear that I could be kicked out of here for fraternizing with you. And you have no idea what I gave up to be here. Look at me. My face was destroyed in a fire. People are embarrassed by me. They look away. They get tongue-tied and awkward. I need to be close to somebody again. I need to feel someone's hand on my cheek again. Can you understand that? I need to be healed, and I can't do anything that'll jeopardize my recovery. [Sniffles] You said you wanted to make it up to me? Yeah. I do. But not at the cost of my own future. I know how selfish that sounds. [Sniffles] But, you know, the truth is, I'm just not a good person. Do you want to be? A good person? [Laughs] Yeah. I think so. There was someone who thought that I could change, that I could be better. And I would argue with him. I'd say, "I'm a lost cause." But I think, yeah. I think, deep down inside, part of me wants to prove him right. Then prove him right. Help me.
You see? Magic, right? If we can pull this off, everyone will walk away happy, including Amy and her brother and her tough-as-nails publisher. But most importantly, you won't have to dread tomorrow. No axe is going to fall. Everything will work perfectly. Yeah, sure. So now, why don't you let me show you how wonderful I think you are for helping Amy's brother? And you can show me how much you appreciate my brilliant idea. I think man Landers would approve. I have no doubt.
Elizabeth: Well, who is he? Not Jason, you were right about that. Just a kid from the neighborhood. We were really good friends, and then he moved away, and the picture was taken right before he did that. My mom felt bad about it, so she made up the whole imaginary friend thing. Because he moved away, she told you he didn't exist? That's a little nuts. Yeah, well, I like to say that my mom always did the best that she could. But if it were that simple, why did she disappear after she promised to tell you the truth? Because she didn't want to admit that she was -- that she lied, and I think she feels terrible about the whole thing, you know? You're right, it's a little weird to take an actual kid and turn him into an imaginary friend, but none of this is her fault. Me going through all of my old work just brought up a bunch of weirdness, and I turned a little thing into a big thing. She should have just told you the truth. Nothing was hidden from me. Nothing was taken from me. It was just a lonely kid who missed his buddy. But that is a big deal to a kid. What was his name? I don't -- my mom didn't know, I don't know, either. That's too bad. You could have looked him up. Yeah, I think that it's time we just let this whole thing go. Is that even possible? After you were so troubled about it? I'm not sure how much I can do for you. If you want to tell me that number again, I'll try to find an outside line, and I'll call it.
Just get me a paper clip. What? That's how you can help me. Get me a paper clip. No, no, no. I don't think so. I already made the mistake of giving you a pen. Look how that turned out. If you had killed one of those orderlies, that would have been on me. And what if Klein is telling the truth about you? He said that you're a violent psychotic. Clearly, he's right about the violent part. And if you are psychotic, then you could be lying to me. You could be manipulating me right now.
Get in the closet. What? Somebody's coming, get in the closet right now! Still out? Good. Let's keep it that way. Brick, do me a favor, will you? Yeah. Find out everything you can about the facility in St. Petersburg. Mm-hmm. Can you give us a name? Baronski, Dr. Piotr Baronski. I'm on it. [Exhales sharply] So -- so you believe me, right? That Ava could be in grave danger? Okay, first of all, I need to make sure that Ava's not working with my enemies. Second of all, I don't really care if she's in danger. No. What do you mean, "No"? No, Sonny, you're a better man than that. She killed my son! And she's sorry for it! Look, Ava isn't out -- out to hurt you. I-I say that with utter faith, Sonny. She is contrite, and I just pushed her into a situation that could very well result in her getting hurt or worse. Nobody pushes Ava to do anything she doesn't want to do. She's the one who does the pushing, to get what she wants. Do not waste your time with her. She doesn't have a soul to save! You're wrong about her, Sonny. We have gotten close since the fire. Inside of Ava, there's a good woman trying to come out. When I saw you hitting that speed bag in the gym, was that about Ava? The other time I saw you going through some crisis of faith, was that about Ava, too? Look, I don't agree with your -- with everything that you say to me, but I will -- I do know this. You have good intentions. Ava does not. I'm gonna give you a little word of advice. You stay away from her as much as possible, or you're gonna end up like I did -- in hell when she murdered my son! Another 24 hours, and I'll be rid of you. Can't come soon enough. I don't know what they think they're gonna do with you, but they're bound to be disappointed. The only way to control you is to drug you unconscious. I could almost feel sorry for you. [Sighs] If you weren't such a pain in the ass. He's gone. Are you faking again, or are you really out? Hey! Hey, are you even breathing? Oh, God. I should have helped you when I had the chance. I'm so sorry.
Something to smile about. I'm happy I was able to get you in the mood. [Sighing] Yeah, so am I. Everything's gonna work out tomorrow. [Scoffs] Sure it is. My plan is going to work. "A," it's brilliant. And "B," it's creating good karma. Think so? You're not acting out of a desire for prestige or fame or money. Your intentions are so good that the fates will align to make sure everything goes smoothly. Trust me. I do. I think that my psyche was in overdrive. The settling of the civil suit and then getting all of my paintings ready for the art show, I just let my emotions get the best of me. But I want to thank you for encouraging me to go see my mom and go get some answers. Mm. The truth turned out to be something manageable, something that I can deal with. Do you feel better? Do you feel like you've found some peace? Yeah. I'm glad. Definitely. Do you believe me now when I say you are the best man you can possibly be for the boys and for me? Mm-hmm. Yeah, I believe you. Please, I need to find her. I just -- I need the address to the clinic, and I'll take it from there. You and I have different priorities. I need to make sure that she's not, you know, a threat coming after me. Her or anybody else. So you won't help me? Well, not if you're gonna go run to her rescue and get in the middle of all this mess. I'll find her myself. And God help me, if you make a move to harm her, you will have to go through me to do it. Oh, come on, come on, come on. You can't be -- oh! Yes, you have a pulse. It's not strong, but it's there. Now, I doubt you can hear me, but if you can, you listen up. If you can fight off those sedatives, if you can keep your heart beating for the rest of the night, I promise you that tomorrow, I will get you a paper clip. And who knows? Maybe I'll even be brave enough to do more. [Sniffles] You're right. This is my chance to be a better person. And to prove that someone's faith in me is justified. I'm gonna do the right thing for him. I'm gonna do the right thing for you.
