Anna: I can't disclose to you where I got the diamond, so why don't we just say that it's part of an unofficial inquiry, and I just was hoping that --
Man: I'm sorry. I can't help you.
Anna: Why not?
Man: If this were off the books, I could get arrested just for touching that stone.
Anna: What are you talking about?
Man: You really don't know, do you?
Man: That diamond is stolen property.
Elizabeth: Hey, Franco. It's me. My shift is almost over, so I'm gonna meet you at your studio. I can't wait to see which paintings they returned to you.
Ava: What are you doing here?
Franco: Wow. Egon Schiele would have a field day.
Franco: Wait, no, no. Hold on, hold on. Wait, wait. One second. I-I have a proposal for you.
Ava: Well, I propose this.
Kristina: Hey, you! It's been a while.
Valerie: Yeah. Since Nurses' Ball?
Kristina: That can't be. Listen, I have to run a quick errand, but I would love to catch up when I get back. Can I get you something before I leave?
Valerie: Eh, you probably shouldn't. My blind date is gonna be here soon.
Kristina: Oh. Well, good luck.
[Indistinct conversations in distance]
Curtis: Auntie, you know I read people and situations for a living.
Curtis: And you insisting that we meet at this particular coffee shop at this particular time is one thing. But insisting I wear this sport coat?
Stella: You wear it well.
Curtis: Well, thank you. I'd like to think everything I purchase I wear well, but, uh [Breathes deeply] You up to something, though. What is it?
Stella: I just wanted you to meet a new friend of mine.
Curtis: [Sighs] Now, uh, does this new friend happen to be a beautiful young woman?
Stella: Mm. Well, now that you mention it...
Curtis: I thought I asked you not to set me up.
Stella: Curtis, trust me. I just met this girl the other day, and I could just tell you two will hit it off. I'm not trying to see anybody. Ah! And there she is now. Hi, Valerie.
Carly: So, you ready to order?
Josslyn: You know what, Mom? You can ground me until school starts, you know, and you can even rope me into these "mother-daughter" lunches to "talk things out." But you can't make me enjoy it!
Carly: I don't care if you enjoy it. I need you to understand how serious this is. You weren't supposed to leave the house, let alone go hang out with Oscar.
Josslyn: Yeah, and if it wasn't for me and Oscar, Sonny could have died.
Carly: And so could you! And Oscar! What if you'd shown up at that construction site when that man shot Sonny?
Josslyn: We would have run for our lives and called 911.
Carly: Or taken hostage or worse, and I would have had no idea where to look for you... all because you had to sneak out of the house!
Josslyn: I know I messed up, okay? But after everything that's happened, why can't you just believe that Oscar and I will never do anything like that again?
Carly: I know you won't. Because outside of school, you are never going to see Oscar again.
Alexis: Good to see you're recovering from your latest brush with death.
Sonny: Well, I'm doing a lot better. Just a lot of physical therapy. [Breathes deeply]
Alexis: Epiphany again?
Sonny: [Sighs] Uh-huh.
Alexis: Well, if anything can persuade you to give up a life of crime...
Sonny: It's definitely incentive.
Alexis: So, you know that guy who shot you -- Garvey. That's his name?
Alexis: He almost had Kristina growing up without a father. You know, I was thinking about that during Julian's trial. I was thinking that no matter how hard we all try to put our past behind us, there seems to always be some bogeyman lurking around the shadows that's gonna jump out and wreak havoc on all of our lives.
Jason: How we doing?
Sam: We need to tell Carly.
Jason: When you're better.
Sam: She's gonna figure it out, Jason. She always does.
Jason: She doesn't need to figure it out today. Just finish this paperwork. I'm gonna call Monica, check on the kids, okay? Be right back.
André: Sam. Hi.
André: I just passed Jason, and I heard they were sending you home today. I thought maybe you'd want to talk to someone before you go.
André: What you did while you were sick.
Sonny: Testifying must have been hard on you. You want to talk about it?
Alexis: With you?
Alexis: Not particularly.
Alexis: I will tell you that it was stressful, and I'm not sure that I did the right thing.
Sonny: Well, as long as you told the truth, there's nothing to apologize about.
Alexis: [Scoffs] I don't know. Maybe that's true. The fact is, is if Julian had told me about Olivia, then my daughter wouldn't have given birth in a ravine and contracted an infection that almost killed her.
Sonny: But it didn't.
Alexis: Damn near did.
Sonny: She made it, Alexis.
Alexis: Well, okay, but this is gonna be really hard for her.
Sonny: Yeah. We're -- we're gonna -- we're gonna get through it, believe me.
Alexis: Yeah, if you say so.
Alexis: I got to tell you, it's just really exhausting not knowing if your daughter's gonna be all right.
Kristina: Great, Mom. Just great. The first chance you get, you run and tell Dad about Parker?!
Valerie: [Sighs] Curtis...
Stella: You know each other?
Valerie: You could say that.
Stella: Well, this is perfect! Come on, have a seat. The first coffee's on me. And then you can tell me how you know each other.
Valerie: That wouldn't be a good idea.
Curtis: Yeah. Maybe -- maybe I should go.
Stella: Oh, I see. It's that kind of history.
Curtis: That's one way of putting it.
Stella: Well, think of this as a golden opportunity for you to work out your differences.
Valerie: Thank you, Stella, but I don't think so.
Stella: Why not?
Valerie: As you know, I'm a cop. Curtis used me to gain access to a file on an open investigation. He nearly cost me my career, and then he turned around and started dating my boss.
Stella: Oh! I see! Well, at least now we know who's at fault: My favorite former in-law strikes again.
Curtis: Jordan had nothing to do with the breakup. That breakup was my fault.
Franco: Seriously, Ava, let me in. It'll just take a second.
Ava: Whatever you're selling, Franco...
Franco: Is this 'cause of what I said about your face?
Ava: Just go away. I've had my fill of offers from deranged men.
Franco: Really? How many deranged men do you know?
Ava: Oh, come on, Franco. Just take the hint. I have no interest in whatever harebrained scheme you've come up with this time.
Franco: Well, technically, it's your daughter's harebrained scheme.
Ava: 30 seconds.
Franco: Okay. So, remember when the old me had a brain tumor and I used to do a lot of really unpleasant things? Well, some of the old me's victims were suing me.
Ava: Condensed version.
Franco: Well, we settled out of court, and they gave me all of my paintings back, and I have them now. And the art world is abuzz with anticipation for the old me's dark and twisted vision of the world, and I just want to get rid of it. And since you own an art gallery...
Ava: Well, that is -- it's a pretty good idea on paper.
Franco: Well, great! Then let's do it!
Ava: Well, I might, except for one thing. I am never setting foot in that gallery again.
Elizabeth: I have some news, and I thought it'd be best if you heard it from me.
Elizabeth: Okay. I asked Franco to move in. He agreed.
Jason: [Sighs] You know how I feel about that. Especially about him being around Jake.
Elizabeth: ...It is my life and my decision. And after everything we've been through with Jake, I was really hoping you'd be able to accept Franco as part of his life.
Jason: Oh. And why would I do that?
Elizabeth: [Scoffs] Because the one thing we all have in common is that we all love Jake. Including Franco.
Jason: Doesn't excuse what he did to Sam.
Elizabeth: [Sighs] I was really hoping by now you'd understand that Franco wasn't well when he did those unforgivable things.
André: I understand you're recovering from toxoplasmosis.
André: And prior to receiving treatment, you were having severe hallucinations, seeing people who weren't really there?
Sam: That's right.
André: Well, that sort of thing can be very distressing, so I figured I'd offer my services. In case you needed to talk to someone professionally.
Sam: Well, thank you so much, but I don't think it really matters at this point. I mean, for all I know, I could've been seeing "pink elephants" and little green men. I just know that I was sick, and I'm better now.
André: Well, that's terrific, but bear in mind that hallucinations are a lot like dreams. Sometimes, they're as random as pink elephants, but, other times, they're a manifestation of the subconscious.
Sam: Wait. Are you -- are you telling me that I hallucinated something I wanted to happen?
Curtis: I went to the police station to visit Valerie, and there was a disturbance that drew everyone away. There was a file left unattended. I not only opened the file, but I took pictures of everything in it. And at the same time, I almost cost Valerie her career. That, too, was my fault.
Stella: Curtis, you're better than that.
Valerie: Look, it all worked out. With my job, anyway.
Curtis: Come on, Auntie. I'll take you home.
Stella: [Sighs] I don't understand. How could you use that poor girl like that?
Curtis: I gave in to temptation, Auntie. There was a kid dead. The investigation was going nowhere. I thought I could get away with it. And I was wrong. It's not the first time.
Ava: Thank you so much for playing. You can be on your way.
Franco: I think you're making a mistake.
Ava: I don't care what you think. Have I not made that clear?
Franco: Do you care what your daughter thinks?
Ava: Kiki means well.
Franco: She really does. That's why she encouraged me to come here. She thinks it would be a great idea for you to have a project.
Ava: [Chuckling] A project?! My inventory is gone! Millions of dollars in irreplaceable art literally up in flames! Along with my dignity and my face! All that's left of my warehouse is a burnt-out shell of a building and the vague memory of what it feels like to be on fire. So why -- why would I go back into that gallery just to be reminded of everything I've lost? I can do that just looking in the mirror.
Franco: I get that.
Ava: Don't patronize me.
Franco: Hey, no, look, when I look at my work from that period, I don't see art. I don't see accomplishment. I just see proof of all of the damage that I've done for no good reason. And there's no way that I can ever atone for all of the harm that I've caused. And every "work of genius" just reminds me of that fact.
Ava: And that's why you want to sell them?
Franco: I don't want to sell them. I want to destroy them. I want to smash every painting and every sculpture. But then Kiki reminded me not to throw the banksy out with the bathwater, 'cause there's a lot of money to be made.
Ava: Mm. And, plus, you get the added bonus of doing a good deed, giving her mama a "project."
Franco: Well, look [Sighs] My work is still in demand -- especially since there's some question as to whether or not my talent left with my tumor.
Ava: Well, it's true that scarcity drives up the price.
Franco: The money could be used for a lot of good things.
Ava: Such as?
Franco: Well, Elizabeth's a single mother with three boys, and I would really like to contribute more than my wages as a parking attendant.
Ava: Bully for you.
Franco: Come on. [Chuckles] I'll up your commission, then.
Ava: It's not about the money.
Franco: Ava, there's got to be something that you want, right? There -- there has to be. There has to be some extravagance that your heart desires.
Anna: No, no, no, no. The Berlin diamonds, they were never stolen. Raymond Berlin, he purchased the original genuine diamond necklace from Raffaele -- oh, a long time before he was ever investigated for securities fraud.
Man: This diamond was never part of that necklace.
Anna: Well, that doesn't make any sense.
Man: Look, as you know, all diamonds above a certain value have an embedded laser GIA code.
Man: The laser GIA codes of the Berlin diamonds are all on record. This diamond is not one of them.
Anna: Well, can you identify it? I mean, do you know where this diamond came from?
Man: Yes. It was part of a high-profile jewelry heist.
Josslyn: You told me that you were cool with me and Oscar being friends.
Carly: That's when I thought I could trust you, but you really haven't been honest with me, now, have you?
Josslyn: Oh, please. Like you were a saint at my age.
Carly: I wouldn't wish my mistakes on you, Josslyn.
Josslyn: So you're just gonna control my life instead!
Carly: Where do you think you're going?
Josslyn: The ladies' room! Unless you think I need a chaperone.
Kristina: I don't appreciate you discussing my private life.
Sonny: Sweetheart, we were just talking about Sam.
Kristina: Oh. Then I apologize for jumping to conclusions.
Alexis: Apology accepted.
Sonny: But since you brought it up... what's going on with Parker?
Kristina: Mom and I ran into her at the park, and Parker is teaching at PCU.
Sonny: Why didn't you say something?
Alexis: Because we were talking about your near-death experience.
Sonny: Ha ha.
Alexis: I couldn't think of a natural segue.
Kristina: Okay, well, before you talk it to death, let me remind you that you don't actually need to.
Alexis: Because you're not gonna see her anymore.
Kristina: Because I am an adult, and I can take care of myself!
Sonny: I didn't say you couldn't.
Alexis: All right, in full disclosure, you need to know that Parker and I had words.
Sonny: Probably a lot nicer words than I would've used. What is going on with Parker? What is she doing here? What -- what is she, pursuing you?
Kristina: She's had some personal upheaval, and she's looking for a fresh start. Not with me!
Alexis: I don't recall any of that coming up in the conversation I had with her.
Kristina: It didn't. I had my own conversation after you left.
Alexis: [Breathes deeply] Why on earth would you think of getting involved with her again?
Kristina: I'm not "getting involved."
Alexis: In any capacity! Kristina, you're just getting your life back together.
Kristina: So what?! Whether or not I choose to be with Parker is my decision, not yours! So stop obsessing over my love life, especially since we're also dealing with the aftermath of yours. I'm sorry.
Alexis: No, it's good. All good. Good luck with that recovery. It's your life. Really, it's all good.
André: Your hallucinations may have been random and meaningless. Or your mind may have manifested some truth or wish you had buried in your subconscious.
Sam: Well... I was having visions that Jason was in trouble.
André: And how concerned are you usually about Jason?
Sam: Oh, gosh. I don't know. That's really hard to explain. I mean, Jason and I were together for a long time before we got married, and I never felt the need to protect him. I mean, why would I? He was invincible.
André: And that's no longer the case?
Sam: No. It's almost as if...
André: As if what?
Sam: Ever since I lost Jason... ever since he came back to me... things have been different.
Jason: I understand the legal principle. Someone who isn't mentally competent because they're sick can't be held responsible for their acts. I got it.
Elizabeth: Okay, but outside of a courtroom, what? You're gonna hold a grudge forever?
Jordan: Mr. Morgan. Can I have a word?
Jason: Actually, we're in the middle of something.
Elizabeth: No, that's okay. It's fine. We can finish this conversation later.
Jason: Good to see you. So, what can I do for you?
Jordan: Answer some questions about an incident that took place yesterday at the PCPD.
Franco: You've always had this way of talking that is strangely so specific and, at the same time, so completely vague.
Ava: What can I say? It's a gift.
Franco: You have a lot of gifts, Ava.
Ava: Franco, you know, even if I wanted to help you --
Franco: I think you do want to help me.
Ava: I -- the gallery's been closed.
Ava: I released the staff. They've all got jobs other places.
Franco: Oh, well, if only there were some way...
Ava: It would be extremely difficult to get the place back up and running.
Franco: ...You could hire a completely new staff. Oh, no. Wait. There is. Come on, Ava. Please. You just, like -- you open the gallery for like one month. You call it a pop-up event. You just finished telling me that scarcity drives up price.
Ava: Why are you doing this?
Franco: Because someone I love loves you. And I have a hard time telling that person no. Can you say no to her?
Ava: [Laughs] I'll think about it.
Alexis: You look like you're having the same sort of day that I'm having.
Carly: That depends. Did your daughter storm out on you?
Alexis: Oh, no. I stormed out on her.
Carly: Oh, okay. Well, Sam's sick, and Molly has no flaws, so I'm guessing it's Kristina that's making your life interesting?
Alexis: And I take it that Joss has entered the "terrible teens."
Carly: With a vengeance! And I don't get it, because we used to be so close. And now it's -- it's --
Alexis: Now you're like strangers, right?
Alexis: And there's this chasm between you that you think you're never gonna be able to bridge the divide?
Alexis: And when you're the mother of a teenager, you -- you feel like your prayers are useless and your hopes are a desperate illusion.
Carly: Yes, and it happened like that, practically overnight. I don't understand. I mean, I can't do anything right. I could bake her a cake, and she'd tell me she wanted pie. And then she'd complain about how she never really liked cake, and why am I trying to control her life?
Alexis: Well, the advice I was given is to just take a step back.
Carly: I know. But what if I take a step back and she gets hurt?
Alexis: Well, that's the thing. We want to keep our kids from making all these mistakes. But the thing is, we have to let them make the mistakes, right? Because then they learn their lessons, and, with those scars, they become better people.
Carly: How's the "stepping back" thing working for you?
Kristina: It's the same thing over and over. You know, Mom wants what's best for me... so long as she decides what that is.
Sonny: Okay. I know you're not gonna want to hear this, but...
Kristina: You agree with her.
Sonny: Parker took advantage of you. Your mom's not happy with that. Neither am I.
Kristina: Well, the difference is, when you talk about Parker, you tell me how you feel.
Kristina: But when Mom does, she tells me how I'm supposed to feel. And that's not up to her.
Sonny: No, it's not.
Kristina: Thank you!
Sonny: But you have to understand that your mother has her own reasons.
Kristina: Yes, things with me and Parker did not go so well. But without her, I never would have discovered this part of myself that I've kept buried all -- all my life.
Sonny: Are you still happy with that part of yourself?
Kristina: Happy is a tall order, but I'm at peace with it. So, how am I supposed to hate the person who helped me realize who I am?
Sonny: Okay. I can understand.
Sonny: When you're a parent and you see that your child is in pain... all you want to do is stop it... and you don't want it ever to happen again.
Kristina: Then how am I supposed to learn from my mistakes? Yes, I took a shot at love, and I fell flat on my face. But you learn from falling and getting back up. I mean, you, of all people, know that better than anyone.
Sam: Jason's different. Maybe I am, too. You know, I used to think that Jason could survive anything. I mean, sure, I always worried about the danger, and I... I wasn't really worried that he could die, but now I am. The more time that he invests in our life together... the more I feel I have to protect it.
André: Well, repressing these feelings may have contributed to your hallucinations. It's important that you talk to someone about them.
Sam: You know, I'm not really comfortable...
André: It doesn't have to be me. But find someone. Someone that you trust enough to confide in.
Sam: Yeah, you're right. I have to talk to someone.
Jordan: So, I was told that you were looking for me yesterday at the PCPD?
Jason: I was.
Jason: It doesn't really matter now. I was gonna ask about Julian Jerome's trial, but I was notified that I wouldn't be called to testify.
Jordan: Well, since I have you... while you were at the station yesterday, a piece of evidence went missing. The gun that was used to shoot Sonny in the leg? You wouldn't happen to know anything about, would you?
Jason: There are cameras all over the PCPD. Did one record a guy leaving with a gun?
Jordan: Well, if they did, then I guess I wouldn't be asking the question, right?
Jason: I guess you wouldn't, but I don't know what to tell you.
Jordan: How about you tell me why you would want to protect the person who shot Sonny? See, my best guess is that you're trying to impede our investigation so that you and Sonny can go after the shooter yourselves.
Jason: No. Believe me, neither of us want that.
Jordan: Is that right?
Jason: That's right. Besides, I left that life behind me a long time ago.
Jordan: Got it. For your family's sake, right?
Jason: That's right.
Jordan: Well, I hope that's true, Mr. Morgan. Because I am gonna be watching you. And I will get to the bottom of this.
Man: This diamond was part of a set stolen in Montenegro a few years back.
Anna: Montenegro, huh?
Man: It was one of several high-profile smash and grabs in and around central Europe. Same MO, well-organized operations.
Anna: Operations carried out by whom?
Franco: I got your message. I'm -- I'm sorry. I tried to get here before you...
Elizabeth: What happened?
Franco: Um, I destroyed it.
Franco: Because it's ugly.
Elizabeth: I wouldn't say that.
Franco: I'm not talking about the way it looks. I'm talking about the actions and the impulses behind it. And I-I've been saying that I'm somewhat separate from those actions and those impulses because, theoretically, that was someone else. But the fact is, this was all me.
Elizabeth: But you were sick.
Franco: It was still these hands. And I-I'm just -- I... [Sighs] How can I move beyond my past if I don't acknowledge it, right? I-I want to grow. I want to evolve... not just for myself, but for you, for the boys... for our future.
Elizabeth: Then do it.
Franco: Just like that?
Elizabeth: Yeah, just like that.
Franco: I'm a little scared.
Elizabeth: Of what?
Franco: I don't want to lose you. And I feel like I might lose you if -- if I stop pretending that the man that I used to be doesn't even exist.
Elizabeth: I have heard every word you've said. And it changes nothing. Your past is your past. And your future is ours.
Jordan: Curtis? What are you doing here? Don't tell me it's Stella.
Curtis: No, no, she's, um -- she's fine. I'm working a case with Finn, so I was just looking for him. Yeah. What?
Jordan: Nothing. No. [Sighs] I just, uh... I always loved you in that jacket. Are you...working undercover somewhere fancy or...
Curtis: Nah, nothing like that. Um... Auntie Stella set me up on a blind date.
Jordan: Oh. Well, that's... well, that's good. It's good that you're, you know, getting yourself out there.
Curtis: Yeah, no, it's -- it's not even like that. Either way, it didn't, um -- it didn't go very well.
Jordan: Why not?
Curtis: Among other things, um, because of who Aunt Stella set me up with.
Kristina: Please tell me your blind date didn't stand you up.
Valerie: Worse. My blind date ended up being Curtis.
Kristina: Oh, babe, I'm so sorry.
Valerie: [Chuckles] Thanks.
Kristina: I'm going to do us both a favor and refrain from offering any advice on how to handle your love life. Especially since I just laid into my mother for doing it to me.
Alexis: So, you want to know if I've been following my own advice and staying out of my daughter's way?
Carly: That's exactly what I'm asking.
Alexis: Not a chance. We just got into a huge fight.
Carly: Really? Kristina's not a teenager anymore.
Alexis: Well, the principle remains the same, right? And I know better. I know that, every time I intervene, she's gonna say that I'm trying to control her life, and that's exactly what happened.
Carly: So, what's the answer?
Alexis: Do as I say and not as I do?
Carly: And what would that be?
Alexis: Let them make their own mistakes. Within reason. I mean, we can't go crazy, right?
Carly: No, I was gonna say...
Alexis: The one thing that I know is, if you tell a teena-- if you tell anybody, really, not to do something, they're gonna want it more.
Jason: Sam, let's go.
[Ominous music plays]
Jason: Sam? Hey, Sam.
Sam: We need to talk.
Carly: Well, it's good to know that you've already been through this.
Alexis: Things'll get better when they're older, right? Just stay out of their way. Hi, Joss.
Josslyn: Hi. Don't leave on my account. Please.
Alexis: Enjoy your lunch.
Carly: So, do you think maybe you were a little harsh on me earlier?
Josslyn: Maybe. A little. Anyways, if I was, I'm sorry.
Carly: It's okay. I was maybe a little harsh on you, too.
Carly: Mm-hmm. And you know what? As much as I want, I can't keep you a kid forever, so... [Sighs] If you want to see Oscar, I won't stop you.
Josslyn: You won't?
Carly: No, but you're still on restriction till school starts. And there's gonna be so many rules that your head's gonna spin. But if you want to... date a nice boy like Oscar and explore that, you have my permission.
Josslyn: Thank you!
Josslyn: Um, if we decide to do that. Which we totally haven't. We're just friends.
Carly: Right. Sure, you are.
Carly: Oh, come on. [Laughs] Okay, I have to make a stop on the way home, so I'm gonna be there in about an hour. I will see you there?
Josslyn: And, Mom...
Josslyn: ...Thank you.
Carly: Mm-hmm. Oh. [Chuckles]
Curtis: So, yeah, there was -- there was Valerie, you know, grieving to my auntie about how I completely and utterly broke her trust.
Jordan: So, how did Aunt Stella take it?
Curtis: She was disappointed in me. I was disappointed in me. But on the, uh -- on the bright side, I think I've completely convinced my auntie not to be trying to set me up again.
Jordan: Yeah. Well, your Aunt Stella, she wants you to be happy. She just -- you know, she set you up with the wrong person.
Curtis: She sure did, because she didn't set me up with you.
Kristina: Sure, Parker broke my heart. For a while. But that doesn't give my mom the right to attack her.
Kristina: You don't agree?
Valerie: It's not that. It's just... it seems like your mom is just being a parent.
Kristina: Well, they're not all insane control freaks.
Valerie: [Chuckles] You've got me there. My mom wasn't an insane control freak.
Kristina: Well, you're lucky. I'm so, so sorry.
Valerie: No. Seriously, it's okay. I mean, it's not like my mom and I had a perfect relationship. I mean, we'd fight, and we'd say things we regretted sometimes. But it doesn't mean that we didn't love each other. In fact... I would give... anything to see her again. Even if it was just to have one more argument.
Kristina: You really did love her.
Valerie: She was my mom. Look. Time really is precious, Kristina. Don't waste a chance to make things right.
Jason: Hey, Dr. Maddox, did you see where my wife went?
André: Uh, Sam's been discharged. I thought she was with you.
Jason: No. She was supposed to wait until I got back. She didn't tell you where she was going, did she?
André: All she said was, there was someone she needed to talk to. And it seemed important.
Sonny: Jason told me you were being discharged. Yeah. Where is he?
Sam: He's not here. I wanted to do this myself.
Sonny: Okay. What's on your mind?
Sam: First, I want you to know how much I appreciate everything you and Jason have done to protect me.
Sonny: Absolutely. We're gonna keep doing it.
Sam: Yeah, no. You can't. You can't. Sonny, I can't let you do this.
Sonny: Sam, what are you talking about?
Sam: I can't. I have to own up to what I did.
Sonny: What you got to do is trust that we're gonna handle it.
Sonny: Can you please trust me?
Sam: I can't lie anymore. Carly deserves to know the truth.
Carly: I couldn't agree more.
Sonny: Carly, can I explain?
Carly: You know what, Sonny? We should never promise each other not to keep secrets. 'Cause the second we do, one of us breaks that promise.
Sonny: It's not that I don't "want" to. It's that I can't.
Sam: Sonny. I have to tell her.
Sonny: No. You don't.
Carly: Tell me what? What the hell is going on?
Kristina: I really should get back to work.
Valerie: Aren't you the owner's daughter?
Kristina: I'm also the boss' ex, so...
Valerie: Wait. Aaron? You've got some dirt to dish, lady.
Kristina: We're gonna need something a lot stronger than coffee.
Alexis: I hope I'm not interrupting.
Valerie: Not at all. I've got to check in at the station.
Kristina: So... what are you doing here?
Alexis: Well, I didn't like how we left things.
Kristina: Me neither.
Alexis: I know we don't see eye to eye. But I'm really gonna make an effort to respect your choices.
Kristina: You will?
Alexis: Yes. I may not succeed, but I'm gonna try. The important thing is, is that I love you.
Kristina: You came all the way here just to tell me that?
Alexis: Yeah. You're my daughter.
Kristina: Well, then I love you, too.
Alexis: Well, okay.
Curtis: I shouldn't have said that.
Jordan: No, you shouldn't have.
Curtis: Because we agreed to end things.
Jordan: Yes, for a good reason.
Curtis: What was that reason again?
Jordan: Because it's -- it's the right thing.
Jordan: And it's -- it's who you want to be for Stella, right? And that man, he does the right thing.
[Elevator bell dings]
Curtis: I hate the right thing.
Jordan: Yeah, it sucks. Listen, um... don't blame Stella for matchmaking, okay? You should find someone who makes you happy.
Curtis: Yeah. So should you.
Ava: This is Ava Jerome. I'd like to transfer some funds, please. Into the gallery's account.
Elizabeth: Mm. [Breathes deeply]
Franco: So... [Chuckles]
Franco: What brought that on? Was it my brooding or my feeling sorry for myself?
Elizabeth: It was everything. All of you. [Chuckles]
Franco: Usually, when people see all of me, they run screaming.
Elizabeth: Well, you don't get to see what I see.
Franco: It means a lot to me that you believe in me, and I don't ever want to go back to who I was.
Elizabeth: Why would you say that? Babe, what happened to you in New York?
[Cell phone rings]
Franco: Oh, it's Ava.
Franco: It might be about something going on with me at the gallery.
Man: I don't know who's behind the thefts.
Man: It's up to the authorities to figure it out.
Anna: Right. No. You're certainly right about that. Thank you.
Man: Take care.
Anna: You too.
Anna: Oh, hey. Hi.
André: Hey. Everything okay?
Anna: Yeah, yeah. Fine. Why?
André: You seem a little distracted.
Anna: Oh, yeah. I'm just thinking about my next case.
Carly: Sam... are you okay?
Sam: This is r-- this is really difficult for me to say.
Jason: Hey. Sam? Sam.
Jason: Why'd you leave the hospital without telling me?
Sam: I'm sorry, Jason. I-I can't do this anymore. I have to be honest.
Carly: Okay. Honest about what?
Sam: Carly, I am so sorry.
Carly: Sorry for what?!
Sam: I'm the one who shot Sonny.
On the next "General Hospital" --
DA Campbell: (to Scott and the court): I have a witness who can speak to the defendant's motives.
Ned (to Alexis): I'm in the market for your legal services.
Elizabeth (to Franco): There's a reason you're famous.
Franco: Huh. Not one that I'm particularly proud of.
Sam (to Carly, Jason, & Sonny): I'm not staying silent any more. You deserve to know what really happened.
