Michael: Oh, you're cute when you scoff. Trust me, Nelle, no one's going to be shivering tonight.
Nelle: Oh, my hero. [Sighs]
Sonny: Hey, Michael. How you doing?
Michael: Why are you here?
Sonny: I just wanted to apologize.
[Knock on door]
Nelle: Just a minute. [Sighs] What are you doing here?
Carly: I came by to drop off your last paycheck.
Carly: And to make it clear that if you ever go near my family again -- Michael, Josslyn, Avery, even Sonny -- there will be hell to pay.
Nelle: Mm. That's it, huh? Severance pay and a warning to stay away from your precious family?
Carly: Well, I'd love to never have to look at your lying face again, but I do, this one last time, so we can finish our business.
Nora: Calm and stable.
Bailiff: Can I help you?
Nina: Yes, I'm Nina Reeves. I am Charlotte Cassadine's stepmother. I'm here to make a statement.
Judge Rawles: You can all take your seats. I see we have a late arrival.
Bailiff: Nina Reeves, your honor. She's on the schedule.
Judge Rawles: Ms. Reeves, this hearing convened half an hour ago.
Nina: I realize I'm late, your honor. I'm sorry.
Judge Rawles: Are you ready to give your statement?
Nina: I am.
Judge Rawles: Then please, take a seat and tell us all what you think is in Charlotte's best interests.
Jordan: This hospital's been searched. There is no sign of Anna or your sister Olivia.
Julian: Did you look where I told you to?
Jordan: No, my people, they searched the basement, as you suggested, with no luck.
Julian: I didn't say, "basement." I said, "my sister wants what's underneath the hospital." And if Anna got in her way, there's no telling what Olivia will do to her.
Olivia Jerome: They say good things come to those who wait. I'm so glad they're right. It'll be wonderful to have you dead.
Olivia: Can it be?
Griffin: Yes, Olivia, it's me -- Duke.
Olivia: After all this time. It worked.
Griffin: Yes, it did. You brought me back.
Griffin: Because of you, I live again.
Michael: It's been a long day. I just want to go home.
Sonny: I don't expect you to say all is forgiven, Michael, I just... as your father, can you just hear me out?
Sonny: We haven't talked since...
Michael: Since Mom and I found out you slept with Nelle?
Sonny: Right. And what's forgotten is you're hurting, too.
Michael: Nelle and I weren't together.
Sonny: Well, I know, but you cared about her, Michael.
Michael: [Sighs] Yeah, we were getting close. Or at least I thought we were. [Sighs] Like I said, we're not together. She doesn't owe me anything -- even honesty. In a way, neither do you. So, hey, if you want to apologize to anyone, it shouldn't be me, okay? It should be Mom.
Carly: So, are you going back to Atlanta or all the way to Florida?
Nelle: You know, that's none of your business.
Carly: I don't really care. I just want you out of my life.
Carly: But first, I want to know -- those lies you were spewing, did you make those up yourself or did that deadbeat Frank Benson tell them to you?
Nelle: You know, Carly, I really don't owe you an explanation -- or anything else, for that matter. But if he was such a deadbeat, why did he keep this? Hmm?
Carly: Where did you get that?
Nelle: He kept it with him. He wanted something of yours, so he could always have a part of you with him.
Carly: Oh, my God, is that what he told you? That is garbage. The only reason he kept that rattle would be the same reason he took Virginia's engagement ring, the same reason he took her heirloom silver tea set -- to pawn it. He probably couldn't get any money for the rattle or he forgot he had it. But I can tell you right now, Frank Benson didn't give a damn about me till I was grown up, married, and rich.
Nora: It appears your wife is going to speak on your behalf.
Valentin: I hope so.
Lulu: This is a disaster.
Laura: Maybe not.
Dante: Well, the advantage that we had was that we could offer Charlotte a home with two parents.
Laura: [Remembers] You could go into the courtroom and testify on his behalf, like a dutiful wife. Or you could go in there and tell the truth and still keep Charlotte in your life. Please, Nina, think about this.
[Back to present]
Laura: I have faith that things will work out the way they're supposed to.
Judge Rawles: You may proceed.
Nina: Again, I apologize for being late. I felt it was best to appear in person and tell the court... the truth about my marriage.
Anna: Griffin, what are you doing? You need to stay away from her.
Griffin: Shh, shh, shhh. Anna, stay out of this. I owe my life, my return, to Olivia.
Olivia: But there was more tea to drink. There were more incantations to say.
Griffin: Your passion was enough to draw me back. You've always been such a strong woman. [Gasps] You did it. You proved everyone wrong. You brought me back.
Griffin: Can't you see it's me?
Duke: I'm back.
Olivia: Duke... it's you.
Jordan: I don't understand what Olivia could possibly want with the foundation of the hospital. I mean, does she think something's buried down there?
Julian: I have no idea. But she was willing to lie, cheat, steal, kill, whatever she needed, to get it. She's obsessed.
Jordan: Well, yeah, I mean, everything in her psychological profile says that she was obsessed with Duke Lavery. I mean, he was the motivating factor in almost all of her crimes. The only doctor that we weren't able to account for tonight is D-- is Dr. Munro. Do you think Duke's son could be in danger?
Julian: Well, Olivia knows that he's Lavery's son, so absolutely.
Olivia Jerome: I knew it would work. Oh, I researched for years, every ancient book of wisdom, trying to find a way to bring you back to me.
Duke: I treated you so poorly in life, Olivia. And yet, you've sacrificed everything to bring me back. I don't know how I'm ever gonna make this up to you.
Olivia: You're here with me now. That's all I've ever wanted.
Griffin: Ah. Thanks to you, everything is as it should be. Nobody else has to get hurt now.
Duke: We can leave here now, and we can be together forever.
Olivia: I've waited forever to hear those words from you. But wait... what about Anna?
Nina: I'll admit that, when Valentin and I got together, we were strangers. Definitely... our relationship grew at a very fast pace that was shocking to many, including myself. I'd lying to you if I told you that our marriage was met with cheers from my family. [Sighs] It most definitely was not. People saw our marriage as a sham just so Valentin could retain custody of Charlotte. Nothing could be further from the truth. I love Valentin Cassadine, and we got married, because we love each other. And in Valentin, I see a capacity to love and nurture that I never, ever knew existed. He welcomed me into Charlotte's life. He encouraged us to form a bond, and we have, and I love Charlotte. I love that little girl, and I feel that we can provide a very stable and loving home for Charlotte. And Mrs. Falconeri says she wants what's best for Charlotte, but I believe she's allowing her animosity toward Valentin to blind her to the truth. I think it's a mistake to take Charlotte away from the father she adores and the home she knows.
Jordan: I need to call this in. I'm expanding my search to include Anna Devane and Dr. Griffin Munro. Excuse me.
Julian: I don't need anybody else poking and prodding me tonight. I want to be left alone.
Rudge: Really? No exceptions for an old friend?
Griffin: Anna doesn't have anything to do with this.
Olivia Jerome: She's always gotten in the way.
Duke: Anna was my first love, but I've grown beyond her now.
Griffin: Anna, I will always love you, but my heart belongs to Olivia now. You can't hang on to the past. We're over. The best thing for all of us would be for you to walk out this door and get the help you need.
Officer: Commissioner, we've checked all the lower levels 10 times over. If Olivia Jerome is still in the building, she's not down here.
Jordan: All right, thanks. Report back to the lobby.
Jordan: Julian was so sure.
Michael: After everything you and Mom have been through, knowing how badly you need each other, why would you -- why would you throw it all away?
Sonny: I didn't want or plan any of this, Michael. First thing's first, I apologized to your mother numerous times. I didn't want this to happen with Nelle. I thought she was a nice girl who just wanted to help. But the night... Morgan was gone... I didn't think your mom wanted anything to do with me. I couldn't think straight. I couldn't do anything. And I drank to kill the pain and Nelle came in. She saw the way I was. And she made a move anyway.
Michael: She used your grief.
Sonny: Not just mine -- all of us. While we were putting Morgan in the ground, she worked herself in -- taping conversations, planting so-called evidence. It was a trap, Michael.
Michael: Yeah, she was plotting against us -- being who we wanted her to be, so she could get close. [Sighs] I just hate that I didn't see it.
Michael: I'm smarter than that.
Sonny: Now, listen, son -- she fooled us all. She just wanted to hurt your mother.
Michael: The thing is though, in the end, she tried to put a stop to what she put in motion. She was trying to take it back, and I could see what could've been between us. But... that was if she would've been the person she was pretending to be.
Sonny: You are lucky you're not with her. There was nothing real about this girl except the grudge that she has for your mother.
Michael: See, Dad, that's -- that's what I don't understand. Now, you knew for months that Nelle was up to no good. You could've warned us, right? You could've warned us. You could've stopped this. All you had to do was tell the truth.
Nelle: You want to make my father a villain, because of the way you treated him? You know, he loved you.
Nelle: He used to tell me all the time how he wished he could introduce me to my big sister.
Carly: He wanted to introduce you to my money.
Nelle: He reached out to you incessantly, and each and every time, you rejected him. It destroyed him, Carly.
Carly: Okay, you know what, you are living in a fantasy land that Frank created. Frank never reached out to me to make amends or to have a relationship. He hit me up for cash -- probably for some get-rich-quick scheme or some shady character he owed, Nelle.
Nelle: I can prove you're lying.
Lulu: That was bad, wasn't it?
Diane: She was very effective.
Lulu: Can you do something?
Diane: Look, I still think our best option is to present both of you as reasonable parents willing to compromise.
Lulu: No, it's too late. We can't compromise. Valentin won't even consider shared custody. You have to prove that he is unfit.
Diane: There is a nuclear option.
Lulu: Great. Use it.
Diane: Okay. But this option -- it's brutal. It's final. There is no room for compromise.
Lulu: I don't want to compromise. I want my daughter. Use whatever argument you have to get her away from Valentin and his lying wife.
Nora: Thank you so much for making the time to come to court today. I mean, what you said -- it was better than anything I could've scripted.
Nina: I just told the truth. The truth will set you free, right?
Nora: Well, that's naive, but it's sweet nonetheless.
[Cell phone rings]
Nora: Oh, excuse me. Nora Buchanan.
Valentin: Thank you for what you said.
Nina: It's just important that we keep the family together, for Charlotte and for us.
Nina: I'm not done fighting with you about the things you keep hidden from me, but you're worth the fight. Our marriage is worth the fight.
Diane: You honor, may I approach?
Nora: Uh, hello?
Judge Rawles: Are you submitting additional affidavits?
Diane: No. I'm filing an emergency petition to immediately remove Charlotte Cassadine from the custody of Valentin Cassadine.
Nora: On what grounds?
Diane: The man is guilty of a first-degree felony.
Nora: Your honor, these baseless charges have been expunged from my client's record.
Diane: I'm not speaking of Valentin Cassadine's extensive and colorful rap sheet. Valentin Cassadine is guilty of kidnapping his own daughter.
Anna: Oh. [Panting]
Olivia Jerome: You want Anna to leave?
Griffin: She has no place in our life, darling.
Anna: I can't leave. I'm not walking away. Duke.
Griffin: It's for the best, trust me.
Anna: If that's your choice, I respect it, but you really need to take care of yourself.
Griffin: I will. Goodbye.
Olivia: I'm afraid I can't let that happen.
Julian: What the hell are you doing here, Rudge?
Rudge: Your sister asked me to tie up any loose ends. Can't risk you opening your mouth and telling anyone else what you know, now, can we? I will say, I half-expected to find you in the trunk of a car. I suppose, uh, I can work with this.
Felix: Mr. Jerome, what's wrong? What the hell is going on?
Julian: Agh! [Panting] Get Commissioner Ashford up here -- now!
Jordan: Uh, go ahead.
Officer: Julian was just attacked.
Jordan: Was it Olivia?
Officer: No. White male dressed as a doctor.
Jordan: On my way.
Griffin: Olivia, let her go.
Olivia Jerome: [Gasps]
Duke: Anna won't stand in our way any longer, Olivia. She won't be a threat to us.
Olivia: You can't trust her. She will leave here and go straight to the police.
Duke: It doesn't matter. We'll be long gone.
Olivia: You don't know, Duke, the things I've done -- the things I've done, the crimes I've committed to bring you back. I can't allow a witness. I'm sorry, my love, but... Anna has to die.
Valentin: Kidnapping? That's absurd.
Diane: Your honor, if I may be allowed to ask Mr. Cassadine just a few questions.
Nora: Okay, you are under no legal obligation to participate in whatever stunt this is.
Valentin: No, no, the accusation has been made, and I want to clear the air.
Nora: Your honor, if I may get something on the record.
Judge Rawles: Proceed.
Nora: Thank you. Mr. Cassadine, have you ever kidnapped Charlotte?
Valentin: No, my name is on her birth certificate. I've been her custodial parent and legal guardian since birth.
Nora: Thank you, Mr. Cassadine. Your honor, in light of Mr. Cassadine's statement, I move that Ms. Miller's petition for emergency custody be denied.
Diane: Your honor, if -- again, if I may just ask Mr. Cassadine a few questions, I believe I can establish grounds for emergency custody.
Judge Rawles: I'll allow you to question Mr. Cassadine.
Diane: Mr. Cassadine, when you deny kidnapping Charlotte, I believe you are using the most common definition of the word. However, in the eyes of the law, that word, "kidnapping," has a much broader meaning. Kidnapping, when referring to custody, can mean one parent denying the other parent any contact with the child.
Nora: Wa-wait, your honor. Mr. Cassadine has gone out of his way to facilitate contact between Mrs. Falconeri and Charlotte.
Diane: In the last few months, absolutely. But what about the rest of Charlotte's life? Mr. Cassadine, when exactly did you become aware that Lulu Falconeri was Charlotte's biological mother?
Carly: Are these...?
Nelle: What, the letters that my father sent to you over the years before he died? Yeah, that's them. They were all sent back, unopened.
Carly: I assume you've read them.
Nelle: Of course.
Carly: And you know he wanted cash, not some fatherly bond with his daughter.
Nelle: Look, he was trying to support his family. Which you knew, because the first time he wrote you... you wrote him back. "Dear Frank. I'm sorry times are tough for you, but if you need to make ends meet, don't bother looking in my direction. You never cared for me, so why should I care about you or your little brat?" It's funny, you know. Because you sure cared about his little brat when you needed a kidney for yours.
Michael: No wonder you were so unhappy when I asked Nelle out for New Year's.
Sonny: I knew she couldn't be trusted.
Michael: Okay, why -- why -- why didn't you tell me, then? Why didn't you tell me the truth right then and there?
Sonny: I should have. But it wasn't that simple, Michael. Your mother was grieving for Morgan. I didn't want to add to her pain by telling her I did such a stupid thing... that I regretted the moment I woke up sober. I didn't want to burden any of you guys.
Michael: What, and how this turned out is better, huh? You watched for months as Nelle made herself more and more indispensable to our family.
Sonny: Michael, I don't know what -- I'm sorry.
Michael: Look, I -- Dad, Dad, I love you, okay? And I know you're just trying to look out and protect our family, but you were really trying to protect yourself, too. And in the end, all you did was leave the door wide open for Nelle to trash our family.
Carly: I already told you I had nothing to do with Frank donating your kidney.
Carly: If anything, that proves to you the kind of man he was. For God's sake, he sold one of your organs.
Nelle: Yeah, because you asked him to!
Carly: This is crazy! I did no such thing!
Nelle: Maybe you didn't know it was gonna be my kidney, if it was a match, but the point is that you didn't ask any questions, Carly. The moment your little girl was saved, you were done with him.
Jordan: [Sighs] Your sister sent someone here to kill you?
Julian: Yeah. You know that doctor that you bumped into on your way out? Not a doctor.
Felix: It's true, Commissioner. I saw it myself. He was dressed as a doctor, and he tried to smother Julian.
Julian: I was able to push the call button. Otherwise, I'd be dead right now.
Julian: What, you're asking me why my crazy sister did this?
Jordan: No, why would this guy...
Jordan: ...Rudge, do Olivia's bidding?
Julian: [Sighs] Look, I don't know the particulars. And my sister has a bunch of thugs on retainer. She's been planning this for months now. Some of these thugs could even be valid hospital employees. Look, I'm telling you, nobody's safe.
Griffin: Anna doesn't have to die, Liv. Look at me.
Duke: Anna knows by exposing you, it also exposes me, Olivia. And the authorities, they may try to reverse what you have done, and I would have to die all over again.
Olivia Jerome: No.
Anna: He's right. I'm just as thrilled as you are that Duke is alive. I would never do anything to threaten his second chance. I won't say a word -- for his sake.
Olivia: You liar. You just want me locked up so that you can have Duke all to yourself. I'm sorry, darling. This is the way it has to be.
Olivia: Don't fight me on this.
Griffin: I won't. I won't. I understand now that this is the only way.
Duke: I should be the one to pull the trigger.
Olivia: [Breathes shakily] You want to kill Anna?
Duke: Well, that way, I can truly be free to start again with you.
Olivia: [Sighs] You're right. I don't want to do anything that would keep us from having a life together.
Jordan: Felix, I need you to give Officer Nuzzi a full description of the man that you saw in Julian's room -- everything that you can remember.
Felix: Okay, I'll do my best.
Jordan: Coordinate with hospital security. As of this moment, no one is to come in or out of this building. General Hospital's under complete lockdown.
Valentin: When I learned of the embryo's existence is when I learned that the egg had come from Lulu.
Nora: Your honor, reproductive law is still being codified and litigated. It's an open question whether providing an egg conveys any kind of parental rights whatsoever.
Lulu: Charlotte's my daughter. Of course, I have rights.
Judge Rawles: Uh, Ms. Falconeri, it's not your turn to speak.
Diane: Your honor, Mr. Cassadine confirmed my client's suspicions that she was Charlotte's biological mother only after she confronted him. He didn't go to her. And since he has established that Lulu Falconeri is Charlotte's mother, it then follows that he has denied her a relationship with her own daughter during the child's most formative years. Yes, we concede that Mr. Cassadine is the only parent that Charlotte knows, and he knows what her favorite color is, because he has deliberately manipulated the situation and deceived everyone.
Nora: Your honor, I object to Ms. Miller's creative interpretation of not only the law, but the facts in this case.
Judge Rawles: Your objection is duly noted, Ms. Buchanan. Thank you. I will review the emergency custody petition and see if a precedent exists for a case such as this. We are adjourned while I'm in my chambers, but don't go far. [Bangs gavel]
Dante: And Diane delivers again.
Lulu: That was amazing.
Lulu: We might be able to take Charlotte home after all.
Laura: Nina. I see you didn't take our little talk to heart.
Nina: Actually, I did. More than you know. Thank you for helping me take an honest look at my marriage.
Laura: Well, given the way the case is going, I hope you'll be able to live with the choice you made.
Valentin: Nina, what was that all about?
Diane: You can save your client a lot of pain and humiliation if you convince him to back out gracefully now.
Nora: [Laughs] We both know that your petition's gonna be denied.
Nora: Yes. The fact that you filed it at all tells me that your client's desperate.
Nora: She's gonna lose, and she knows it. Having said that, I must say it was a very creative argument and presented very well -- kudos.
Diane: Thank you very much. Thank you.
Nora: Yes. I always admire a worthy opponent.
Diane: Well, I don't know how they do it in Llanview, Pennsylvania, but here in Port Charles, we go for the kill
Nora: Ooh. [Chuckles]
Griffin: Don't move.
Olivia Jerome: I don't understand. What are you doing?
Duke: You need help, Olivia.
Olivia: You -- you said that my heart belonged to you, that we belong together.
Anna: God, you belong in an institution. Duke is gone.
Olivia: No, he is not.
Anna: Yes, he is. I, more than anyone, wish that it wasn't true, but it is.
Olivia: I saw the candle go out.
Olivia: I rescued his soul.
Anna: This is Griffin. It's not Duke. He's never coming back.
Olivia: [Remembers] You'd be surprised how persuasive I can be. [Voice breaking] Duke.
Griffin: I'm not my father, Olivia.
Olivia: You tricked me, you bastard!
Jordan: Got it. Thank you. I need to have all ambulances divert to Mercy. I want this building secure now.
Felix: Commissioner, that Rudge guy, the one who tried to kill Julian, I just saw him duck down the stairwell.
Jordan: Did he notice that you spotted him?
Felix: Not that I could tell.
Jordan: This is Commissioner Ashford on 10. I'm in pursuit of the suspect. Do not, I repeat, do not make a move until I give you my signal.
Olivia Jerome: You liar! Liar!
Anna: Get off him, Olivia. Get off!
Olivia: Ugh! You're nothing like Duke.
Anna: It's over.
Olivia: It's not over. It's not close to over.
Sonny: If you and your mom have to hate me, I accept that, but you know what really hurts me the most? Is that things are so bad between us.
Michael: I don't hate you, Dad. I don't. I just hate being disappointed by you, because I know you're better than this.
Sonny: I am, I am. I was 100% wrong, and I'm gonna do everything I can to prove to you and the family that I'm better.
Michael: All right, I got to -- I got to get out of here. I got to go home.
Sonny: Thanks for hearing me out.
Sonny: Um, can you promise me one thing? You got -- you have a gift that I don't have. You can forgive. And I know this is gonna be difficult. It's gonna cost you, but you have a way of letting go and then moving on. Don't do that with Nelle. She's dangerous. She's a liar. She's a user. Just promise me you won't let her back into your life.
Carly: I believed Josslyn's donor was Jake Webber. I went to my best friend on the night that he thought that his son died, and I begged him to make that sacrifice to save my daughter, and he did. Now, I don't know what kind of strings were pulled behind the scenes. I have no idea how Josslyn wound up with your kidney, but I did not approach Frank. That thought never crossed my mind.
Nelle: So you're saying you think it's just a coincidence that your daughter's kidney came from your adopted father's daughter? Okay, so, so -- so if you didn't arrange it, somebody had to. So who did it, Carly? Hm? Nothing?
Carly: You know, Frank really did a number on you. And that's not your fault. But what you did to my family, all the lies you told, sleeping with my husband, that's your fault. If you would have come to me and told me the truth, I would have helped you. But instead, you chose to sabotage me. So keep packing. And you get on the next bus going south. Because if you ever mess with me again, you will find out what payback really feels like. Don't forget that.
Nelle: [Sniffles] You know what? I think it's time to give this town another chance.
Carly: We need to talk now.
Judge Rawles: Will you all take your seats? This hearing is back in session. The unique circumstances of Charlotte Cassadine's conception have created a no-win situation. The arguments and claims presented by both sides have merit. It is clear that both parents want what's best for the child, but it is unclear who can provide that. Because in all this testimony, we have yet to hear from the person who has the most at stake -- Charlotte herself. Therefore, the court will arrange for Charlotte to meet with a psychiatrist to evaluate her and determine her wishes. Pending this evaluation, Ms. Falconeri's petition for emergency custody is denied. Ms. Miller, kidnapping is a federal offense. You had no grounds whatsoever to make that allegation against Mr. Cassadine, and if you pull a stunt like that again in my courtroom, I will file a complaint with the Bar Association and fine you for contempt. Am I clear?
Diane: Crystal, your honor.
Judge Rawles: We will reconvene to hear the psychiatrist's findings, and I will make my decision at that time. We're adjourned.
Valentin: So, what do you think?
Nina: This is good, right? We know that Charlotte wants to be with us.
Nora: I think it's a good sign, yes, I do. I just hope neither one of you have any skeletons in your closet that could pop up during the evaluation.
Diane: This is the best outcome we could have hoped for. Any evaluation is gonna show that Charlotte needs her mother.
Laura: A social worker has already made it very clear that you two are great parents to Rocco.
Dante: Okay, try not to worry. Right, everyone knows what a great mother you are.
Lulu: Mm-hmm. Everyone but Charlotte.
Jordan: This is Commissioner Ashford. I am armed. Step out and place your hands where I can see them.
Olivia Jerome: This twisted fantasy of yours is over.
Griffin: Anna, we need to stop the bleeding.
Anna: You are gonna pay for your crimes.
Olivia: Well, fine, you can turn me in to the police. But then you'll never know what I did to Robin.
On the next "General Hospital" --
Olivia (to Anna): Your history with me is coming back to haunt you.
Finn (to Brad): What do we need to make a deal happen?
Ava (to Kiki): Are you gonna help me celebrate or are you going to give me a hard time?
Monica (to Sam & Jason): What is my granddaughter's first name going to be?
Nelle (to Josslyn): You and I? We're no longer friends.
Carly (to Michael): You're going to stand there and tell me that you still have feelings for her?
