Nikolas: What are you doing?

Nadine: Wondering why you have a diamond ring in your hand.

Jerry: Oh, dear, dear, dear. You're really, really disappointing me, darling. Here you are, accusing me again of conspiracy.

Alexis: What is your association with Devlin? Did you have anything to do with that botched hit on Sonny that resulted in Michael's injury?

Jerry: Would it be easier for you if I said yes?

Claudia: How many times do I have to tell you, Jason, I didn't have anything to do with Michael's shooting, and neither did my brother.

Jason: You say -- you say a lot of things. You said Anthony was the one who ordered the shooter to Sonny's warehouse. You want -- you want me to believe you?

Claudia: Yeah.

Jason: I want to believe you. Give me the proof.

Morgan: Michael, wake up. Wake up, Michael.

Carly: Hey, baby. Hey, baby, you need to stop doing that, okay?

Morgan: But Michael won't wake up.

Carly: I know. He canít. I told you that he won't wake up right now.

Sonny: Hey, come here. Come here. How you doing? Listen to me, okay. Your brother's been very badly hurt, okay?

Sonny: We're all very sad about that, okay. Hey, now, I just got to tell you something, okay? There's nothing we can do to wake him up. He's not going to wake up.

Nikolas: So did you say something about a ring?

Nadine: The one in your hand. You just woke up from surgery, and visitors haven't been allowed in yet, so where'd it come from?

Nikolas: It's Emilyís.

Nadine: Pretty romantic for you to take Emilyís ring with you into a complicated brain surgery. And it must be magic. Otherwise, why wouldn't the nurses have noticed it during pre-op, or that would account for you not losing it somewhere along the way.

Nikolas: She must have wanted me to have it.

Nadine: Well, as a good luck piece, it definitely worked. Dr. Drake said the surgery was a success.

Jerry: I mean, let's face it, Alexis. As long as you make me out to be a monster, you can justify denying the fact that you're very attracted --

Alexis: Are you incapable of answering one simple question?

Jerry: I'll come clean if you will. I mean, I'll even go first. I do not know Dr. Devlin. I may have bumped into him on some rare occasion but within Port Charles city limits. I've seen him at the hospital. I've seen him having dinner at the Metro Court, and the only reason I saw -- I stopped him the other night at the pier was because I knew he was treating Nikolas.

Alexis: And what would prompt this sudden uncharacteristically warm concern for my nephew after everything you did to him?

Jerry: Well, I was a different man then, but I've changed because of Jax and because of you, and the reason I was concerned about Nikolas is because he's so dear to you and then because what I did to him built this wall between us, a wall I've been trying my -- my damnedest to break down, which is -- which is an exercise in futility, because every time there's one iota of -- of progress between us, you're busy building up that wall again, because you're so stubborn.

Alexis: And you're a liar.

Jason: You want me to kill your father?

Claudia: Yeah.

Jason: I'll do it if he's responsible for Michael's shooting. This is your last chance to convince me.

Claudia: I don't have actual physical proof that you can hold in your hand. What I do have is a little voice inside my head that tells me all I need to know. It is dead on when it comes to my father. Anthony Zacchara eliminates risks before they become a problem. It stands to reason, since he knew he was about to be released from prison, that he would clean his house and go after Sonny.

Jason: It's still a speculation.

Claudia: It's what I got.

Jason: It's what you -- it's what you've got. It's no proof, Claudia. Either you don't have it, or you do, or you're covering something.

Sonny: How's Morgan?

Carly: How do you think he is? He's scared, Sonny, and he's confused. What the hell were you thinking? How could you be so insensitive?

Sonny: I just told Morgan the truth.

Carly: He's a little boy.

Sonny: Who -- who was trying to wake up his brother, and he can't do it, because -- and we both know that --

Carly: I know no such thing. Now stop it. I don't know that.

Sonny: Okay, Carly, you're an adult. If you want to live in denial, that's your choice, but to bring Michael, in his condition, into this house, and forcing Morgan to see him that way, he's too young. You shouldn't have done it, but you did it. The least Morgan deserves is a realistic understanding of what's put in front of him.

Carly: Okay. I walked Morgan to Michael's room when he got home, and I sat there and I explained everything to Morgan about how Michael can't wake up right now, and his body's just trying to heal, and I thought he understood, okay?

Sonny: How can he if we can't? It makes no sense to him that his -- his brother's lying there. He can breathe, but he can't open his eyes. He can't smile. It's too difficult. If we could wrap our brains around it, we'd be able to handle it a lot better. I wouldn't have to be living in my own guilt, and you wouldn't have to be living in a fantasy that's not going to happen.

Carly: Stop saying that, because I don't think it's a fantasy, Sonny. This is not denial. This is love. I love that little boy, and I'm not going to give up on him, and it's a damn shame that his father can't say the same.

Nikolas: So is my prognosis, really that good, or are you spinning to make yourself right, since you were the one insisted I have the surgery all along?

Nadine: Well, I will let Dr. Drake fill you in on all the details, but the surgery went great. And talk about right on time -- he said if you wait even another -- as usual, I'm talking too much. I'll let him fill you in on the details.

Nikolas: Maybe I want to hear it from you.

Nadine: He you know what? Do you maybe want to wear a wrist ducky while you're here? Or I guess a wrist gargoyle would be more appropriate.

Nikolas: What is it you're not telling me?

Nadine: You're not going to let this go, are you?

Nikolas: No.

Nadine: Okay, what I was going to say, like an idiot, was that if you'd waited even one more week to have the surgery, you would've died.

Nikolas: Well, then I guess I owe you my life.

Nadine: What, does that make me responsible for you or something?

Nikolas: No. No, that would be a lousy way to show my gratitude.

Nadine: I don't know. Maybe I could handle it.

Nikolas: I'm sure you -- you could, knowing you. You are a very tenacious woman.

Nadine: Thanks. Can I get you anything else?

Nikolas: No, thank you. Iím okay.

Nadine: Okay, I'll let you rest.

Nikolas: Thanks.

Nadine: I know you're really going to miss Emily, but please don't question what you did. You made the right choice.

Accountant: In summary, ELQ will have no problem holding steady until the economy comes back. Mrs. Spencer?

Tracy: What? Oh, never mind. You can go.

Accountant: But I thought that --

Tracy: I do not pay you to anticipate my responses. I pay you to crunch numbers. You did. You can go, Sir. Have a nice day. Can I have a vodka rocks, lemon twist?

Luke: Make that four.

Tracy: What do you want?

Luke: I want to spend some private time with my wife. Do you think we could get Edward and Alice to take a weekender?

Tracy: That's disgusting.

Luke: It is a pretty freaky visual, isn't it? Which one do you see on top?

Tracy: Oh, will you stop. And while you're at it, go away.

Luke: Come with me.

Tracy: Go to hell.

Luke: Stop making what I live hell. I want to come home.

Tracy: I like you living at the Haunted Star, and who knows? With any luck, Anna Devane might show up for some more alcohol acrobatics, and she'll help you forget the hell that is me.

Luke: Oh, God, are you still on that? That was just harmless fun.

Tracy: Not to me. Luke, I'm exhausted from the constant fighting and from stepping around your compulsive infidelities at every turn.

Luke: Tracy, I can't even remember the last time I cheated on you. Don't you get it? I happen to be in love with my wife.

Alexis: Under any name, you've always been very charming. But I know that's just a mask that you use to cover up for who you really are, whoever that is. I know that.

Jerry: I mean, how could you build your life around the concept of justice and not allow me room to change?

Alexis: Some people just can't be rehabilitated.

Jerry: I don't know. When I took Nikolas hostage, I was in a very, very dark, very desolate place. I -- I thought I'd lost the one relationship that had any meaning to me. I never expected to see my brother again, you know. Thankfully, I was wrong. Jax found it in his heart to forgive me, and that changed everything. And I realized then that -- how important the connection with my brother was to me, and why else would I be in this godforsaken town? Because of Jax. And at times, because -- because of you, too, because of the hope I have that I could add one more good thing to my life. I'll never be the good brother, no. But I'm a much better man than I was a year ago, and I'll prove it to you. And last night our dinner was interrupted. So can we try again?

Alexis: I'm busy.

Jerry: Come on, a couple of hours, please.

Alexis: Fine.

Jerry: Same time, same place? Okay, I look forward to it.

Mac: Alexis?

Alexis: Hey, whatever it is, can it wait? Nikolas had surgery today. I want to check on him.

Mac: Sure. While you're gone, do you want me to assign someone to investigate Jerry Jacks?

Alexis: He knows something about Devlin, and I'm going to find out what it is, one way or the other.

Sonny: I don't want to hurt you more than you've already been hurt, Carly.

Carly: Skip the qualifiers, Sonny. They're meaningless. You're going to do what you want anyway. You always do.

Sonny: I don't think this is about what anybody wants. You think I want to see my son in that bed, a prisoner in his own body? You think I want to see you looking at me with hatred in your eyes, my youngest son terrified and scared because the brother that he worships can't wake up and the mother that he trusts lied to him?

Carly: I have never lied to either one of my boys.

Sonny: But the thing is, every time that you tell Morgan that Michael's going to be all right, that's a lie. And then to bring him in this house in his condition so Morgan can see him just wasting away -- it's not fair. It's too much pain for a little boy to endure. He's five years old, Carly. He doesn't understand. He doesn't get it. It doesn't make sense to him.

Sonny: Okay, listen to me. I got -- I -- I don't want to do this, but if -- if you don't agree to send Michael to the facility that Jax found, then I'll file a petition for an emergency guardianship of Michael. I'll tell the judge what happened here with Morgan today, and I'll also, you know, tell him that you have an unrealistic viewpoint of the situation, and it could harm the boys. I don't want to do it, but I will do it.

Carly: Oh, do it! Because I have a few things that I could tell the judge myself, like why Michael is up there in a coma. You want to fight dirty? Bring it on. You're not taking my kid away from me, Sonny.

Sonny: All right, listen to me. When you go upstairs, try -- just try not to rationalize, not -- forget about your guilt and the hope that you have and just look at that little boy in that bed, and you will know he's already gone.

Tracy: I am so not in the mood for one of your pathetic attempts at greeting card romance. On you, it sounds like a bad comedy sketch.

Luke: I think I understand this conversational glitch we're having here. You can't hear my sincerity because of the green-eyed monster screaming in your ear. It isn't that you don't want me back in your bed. It's that you're too jealous to admit it.

Tracy: Of Anna Devane? Don't make me laugh.

Luke: You can't do shots hanging from a trapeze, and somehow you think that's what I want in a woman?

Tracy: If I wanted to, I could down a bottle standing on my head. It's just that I choose not to make an ass of myself, and I also choose not to compete for your attention with lethal mobsters and aging spies.

Luke: Oh, God, here we go.

Tracy: No, you think you hate it when I nag? Not half as much as I hate doing it. Well, I'm done. You want the freedom to choose your associates and to run your sorry excuse for a business any way you like, be my guest, but I reserve the right to not watch while you do it.

Carly: Hey, so I -- I had Mercedes take Morgan to the library. I thought about having them go to the arcade. I know how much he likes the arcade, but he usually goes there with you. I know you always teach him how to play all the hard games.

Carly: Your brother misses you so much. He misses you so much, so we -- we've got to get you better for him. Okay, we're going to do all your exercises, and we're going -- we're going to do all the therapy we need to do for you, and you're going to wake up, and you're going to come back. Hey, sweetie pie. Jason's come to say hi to you. Come on.

Jason: Hey, buddy.

Carly: Isn't it great seeing Michael in his own room?

Jason: It's nice to have some windows open, isn't it? Look, I'm going to talk to your mom downstairs for a minute.

Carly: Look, this is going to be an adjustment, but I can make this work.

Jason: I want you to tell me how.

Diane: I came right away because Milo called and said it was urgent, but if this is about Jason being accused in the Ian Devlin --

Sonny: That -- that can wait. Just listen to me, okay? This is a priority. I -- I need -- I need you to do whatever it takes to get me sole guardianship of Michael.

Diane: Well, this is out of left field. I assume we're going to be encountering some heated resistance. What are your grounds?

Sonny: Carly brought Michael to his room at home with -- with the hospital bed, the monitors, the tubes, the whole nine yards. It's not good for Morgan. He's a little boy. It's not good for Carly, or Michael for that matter, because he needs more care than Carly can give him, so I need the authority as a parent to be able to take Michael to a facility where he'll be -- you know, they can care for him 24-hours.

Kate: Sonny, that might be the worst possible thing you could do.

Luke: Hey.

Nikolas: Hey.

Luke: You up for company?

Nikolas: Sure, sure. Come on in.

Luke: Turns out I'm a little early for physical therapy on this bum knee. Well, you know, you don't look bad.

[Nikolas laughs]

Luke: I guess the operation was a success.

Nikolas: Yeah, yeah. Expected to make a full recovery, I guess.

Luke: Well, that's good.

Nikolas: Yeah. Well, I'm just trying to figure out exactly what that means -- a full recovery. I mean, how do you pick up the pieces of your life and move on without the woman that made it worthwhile to begin with? Look, I'm sorry. I know that's dicey territory for you. I apologize.

Luke: No, no -- no apology necessary. When it comes to your mother, you have nothing to ever apologize to me for.

Nikolas: Okay. Well, then, maybe you wouldn't mind if I ask, how did you? I witnessed some of the fallout from you losing Laura twice, and really, how did you bounce back from that?

Luke: Well, at first I didnít. I didn't even want to bounce back. If I was going to go through the rest of my life without her, I just didn't think it was going to be worth it. So I spent a lot time in denial. I kept thinking, hoping she'd find her way back to me if I held her hand long enough or whispered just the right words in her ear. But closing your eyes to what is real only gets you so far. And eventually, truth is stronger than hope. I don't know, Nikolas. You just, uh, you get through it. You somehow learn to accept the loss, deal with the pain, and one day, before you know it, you're no longer standing on the edge of an abyss. Somehow, miraculously, you're on the other side.

Carly: Let me guess, Sonny called you.

Jason: No, he didnít.

Carly: Oh. I thought that's why you were here. Morgan tried to wake up Michael. I heard him from down the hall and I knew what I was going to see when I walked in and opened the door. And there he was shaking him, trying to wake him up. I don't know how to explain a coma to five-year-old. I can't even tell him that Michael was shot in the head. I just said that he was hurt really bad.

Jason: I think that's all Morgan can handle for right now.

Carly: You get that. Sonny doesnít. He came over here and told Morgan straight out that Michael was never going to wake up. How do you tell that to a little boy? How do you tell that to your own son? Now he wants to go to the court. He wants to get emergency guardianship and take Michael away from me so he can send him to some institution that Jax found. I don't want to fight Sonny. I want to focus on my little boy. But I will. I mean, if Sonny pushes me, Iím going to push back.

Jason: Isn't it more important to do what's best for Michael?

Carly: Michael being at home is what's best for Michael.

Jason: I don't know, Carly. If it's going to hurt his brother, it's not. If it's going to hurt you, it's not.

Kate: If Carly fights Sonny's petition for Michael's guardianship, which we can be sure she will --

Diane: Mm-hmm.

Kate: How long do you think it would be for Sonny to win?

Diane: Months. Years, possibly.

Kate: And based on what you know about these kinds of cases, what would be the likely outcome?

Diane: That is impossible to predict, even after months of an appeal. A judge may simply decide to leave things exactly as they are. Or in a worse case scenario, if the mud really starts to fly, Michael could become a ward of the court.

Kate: You can't do that to Carly, or to yourself.

Diane: I shall leave the two of you to work this out. If you decide to file, call me.

Sonny: I went to Carly's to see Michael. Morgan was right by his side, telling him to wake up. I can't let that happen, Kate. I mean, I can't undo what happened to Michael, but I can definitely do right by Morgan.

Kate: Maybe you should take a step back right now, Sonny, and have some faith in Carly as a mother.

Nikolas: Living through it, that I can grasp. But I don't know, finding love with someone else? I just -- I can't imagine that happening.

Luke: Well, I don't know. You know, you can't recreate love. What I felt for Laura -- what I will always feel for Laura, what you feel for Emily, that's a once-in-a-lifetime deal. But what I have with Tracy is once-in-a-lifetime, too. Love is always the first time, no matter how often it comes around. That's the miracle of it. You'll always hold Emily in your heart, Nikolas. But there is room in there to love again. I know it doesn't seem like that now, but unexpectedly, unbelievably, it'll happen. You're a young man. Anyway, I've got to go. I got a massage with my name on it downstairs.

Nikolas: Okay, thank for stopping by.

Luke: You take care of yourself.

Nikolas: You, too. Take care of that knee.

Luke: I'm trying.

Nikolas: Luke?

Luke: Hmm?

Nikolas: Thanks, really.

Ric: Scotch rocks, please.

Claudia: When a man invites me for a drink, I expect him to be waiting for me.

Ric: Sorry, I got held up with my ex-wife.

Claudia: Really? Whose daddy is she preparing to take down now, yours or mine?

Ric: Not that ex-wife.

Claudia: Well, then, skip it. I'm not interested in a tour of your marital ruins. Why am I here?

Ric: Well, I think I can help you.

Claudia: Is that so?

Ric: You sound skeptical.

Claudia: Well, I haven't seen anything else. I mean, I haven't seen anything from you to make me feel otherwise.

Ric: Your father has shut you out of the business, literally. What if I can help you get back in?

Sonny: Let me get this straight, you're taking Carly's side?

Kate: I guess I am.

Sonny: Yeah, well, she's done nothing but hurt you. I mean, you know, Michael getting shot has made her mean and unfair and she lashes out at you, she blames you when you shouldn't even be blamed.

Kate: She doesn't have a monopoly on wrong, Sonny. Look, I showed up at the hospital at Michael's bedside.

Sonny: Yes.

Kate: My intention was to support you, but it came at a time when it was the last thing that Carly needed. It was hurtful, and I regret that. But what I'm talking about is bigger. Carly is a good mother. She's a like a mother bear when she protects her cubs. And she has very strong instincts -- or don't you believe that anymore?

Sonny: Yeah, I -- yeah, I do.

Kate: Okay.

Sonny: Okay.

Kate: So you have to trust her. You have to trust that in a week, in a month, she's going to come to realize that she's not helping Michael and she's going to face the painful truth that her son's not going to get any better. But, Sonny, you gotta give her the room and the respect to figure that out on her own, to come to the other side in whatever way she has to.

Carly: You want me to send Michael away?

Jason: I just don't see how -- how is this going to work?

Carly: It's only temporary. Now that Michael's home from the hospital, he's going to respond to therapy and he's going to wake up soon.

Jason: I know that's what you want to believe, Carly.

Carly: That's what I want to believe? Now you've given up on Michael?

Jason: I broke every promise I ever made to that kid. I didn't give him a good life. I didn't keep him safe. I pressured you to stay with Sonny all the times that you wanted to get out. I told myself that Michael was loved and it made it worth the rest of it. I was wrong.

Carly: That's what you said to me that first night we were standing there in the rain. You told me that your life was too dangerous for a child and I wanted to be with you, so it didn't matter.

Jason: I know, but I let you give me Michael when he wasn't mine to have, Carly. We did this. The choices you and I made, we put Michael in that warehouse with Sonny. Look, I'm not telling you what to do with Morgan, but I'm asking you, please, don't make that kid grow up with his brother in the next room never moving. Or never speaking. Don't make him watch you drown in guilt every day.

Carly: I have failed Michael in every part of his life. I've always done whatever I wanted to do and I put myself first. And this time I have to put Michael first.

Jason: Then you have to stop seeing what you want. You need to see the truth. Morgan needs you. You've got to get that kid out of the house.

Carly: I can't!

Jason: Carly, it's what's --

Carly: I canít. I will not give up on my son.

Nadine: Hey.

Nikolas: Hey.

Nadine: How's it going?

Nikolas: So far, so good.

Nadine: Still feeling pretty groggy?

Nikolas: It's wearing off a little bit.

Nadine: You had a lot of visitors. You must be pretty exhausted.

Nikolas: Yep -- yeah, I am a little. But I've had a lot of food for thought. Will you do me a favor?

Nadine: Sure.

Nikolas: Would you place this in my suitcase for me? It's time to put it away.

Claudia: You're new to the Zacchara organization, so maybe you don't know how it works yet. You see, Daddy does what Daddy wants and the rest of us pretty much just stay out of his way. Daddy wants me out of the business, good luck changing his mind.

Ric: See, that's surprising, Claudia Zacchara with a defeatist attitude. That's almost an oxymoron.

Claudia: Who are you calling a moron? What do you have in mind?

Ric: Unlike your father, I see your worth and your value as an ally.

Claudia: Hmm.

Ric: So if you share the benefit of your experience, I'll be your conduit to Anthony.

Claudia: It's tempting.

Ric: It could be a mutually beneficial relationship.

Jason: Carly thinks I know what's right. If I did, I'd -- I would have never lied and said I was your father. I never would have left you with Sonny. I knew about the danger and the violence. That's why I went to work for Sonny in the first place. I didn't even care if I died. But you needed the opposite of me. You needed to be safe. I didn't protect you. I realize now I could never protect you. I'm sorry I didn't -- I never did anything good for you, Michael.

Jason: But I'm going to promise you right now that I will never do to Jake what I've done to you.

Sonny: You know something?

Kate: Hmm?

Sonny: I gotta admit, you can be pretty convincing when you want to be.

Kate: Oh, does that mean you're going to take my advice?

Sonny: Uh, yeah, I'm going to let Carly keep Michael at home. And, you know, maybe she'll see the truth sooner than later.

Kate: I don't think you'll be sorry, Sonny.

Sonny: You know what?

Kate: Hmm?

Sonny: I don't think I could get through this without you, because I would be spiraling out of control even more than I am.

Kate: Stop it.

Sonny: Uh --

Kate: Stop it. You're stronger than you give yourself credit for. I love you.

Sonny: And I love you.

Carly: Sorry.

Sonny: No, is Michael okay?

Carly: I'm having Michael taken back to General Hospital and they're going to work out the details having him transported to the facility Jax found in Manhattan.

>> On the next "General Hospital" --

Jax: They're holding a room for Michael. We can see it today.

Carly: I hate every single thing in this room!

Sonny: Ian Devlin shot Michael.

Jason: You have one lead -- Kate Howard. I want to know why you paid him a million dollars.
