Kate: Hey. I need to use your phone. The battery in my cell is dead.
Sonny: Wait, wait, what's wrong?
Kate: I need to call the police, there's an intruder in my house.
Carly: You know what?
Carly: The boys are asleep.
Carly: Yeah, no one's going to knock on the door asking to solve a math problem, no one's going to ask for late-night ice cream.
Jax: What about Lulu?
Carly: She went home.
Jax: Because you practically, like, pushed her out the door.
Carly: I did not -- we were having a conversation about how you have to grab the happiness while you can because you don't know when it's going to go away, and that's what I'm trying to do right now, so kiss me.
Carly: Okay. I love you.
Jax: I love you, too.
Carly: You know what? Wait.
Jax: What? What's wrong?
Nikolas: How can you be here right now?
Emily: This is our room.
Nikolas: Oh, my God. Oh, my God. If I'm crazy, I don't care.
Nikolas: It's a dream, right?
Emily: Hmm -- I don't think so.
Nikolas: But -- but I just -- I just came from your -- your funeral. You're -- you're dead, I -- I killed you.
Emily: Nikolas, you could never hurt me.
Nikolas: No, no, you walked into the ballroom. You -- I told you to leave so you'd be safe. And I grabbed you, I yelled at you, I blacked out. I don't -- Emily, I woke up. You were -- you were on the floor with a -- with a rope around your neck. I -- I tried to -- I tried to save you, but it was too late. You were already gone, and it was -- it was my fault.
Emily: Nikolas, you could never, ever hurt me, okay? Never.
Singer: How does circumstance seem to cost us every chance of living out the truth in our heart? It seems the best laid plans are just outside our hands leave us broken down and far apart
Singers: But if faith plays a role
Singer: I know
Singers: Someday I'll hold you
Singer: In my arms forevermore
Singers: So let's love like it's ours to keep love like we've always dreamed
Singer: And maybe
Singers: This time the fates will be kind to us
Singer: So let's love
Singers: Like it's ours to keep
Carly: Oh, what part of "wait" don't you understand?
Jax: Oh, I think I understand it perfectly. This is part of your game.
Carly: I don't have a game.
Jax: Yeah, of course you do. You do this a lot, actually. You -- you get me all hot and bothered, and then you leave me hanging until I agree to some crazy demand of yours.
Carly: That is an awful thing to say!
Jax: And it works every time.
Carly: Name once. Once.
Jax: When you wanted me to agree to the spa renovations at the hotel.
Carly: Okay, that was once, but that doesn't count.
Jax: Okay, when you wanted me to drop out of the regatta competition because you wanted to go to that jazz festival in New Orleans.
Carly: That was fun.
Jax: And every time you want me to go to the store because you've run out of chocolate sauce or something else, because you like your chocolate sauce, you know, with your late-night bowl of ice -- ice cream.
Carly: Okay, okay, okay, okay! So I'm a selfish witch, but that's not what's happening this time. I promise, that's not what's going on here.
Jax: Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. What is so incredibly important that's stopping us from having sex until we get it out in the open?
Carly: You don't take me seriously.
Jax: Hey, I always take you except sometimes when I -- when I don't take you seriously, but that's not very often. I -- I always take you serious. Hmm?
Carly: I think I need a snack.
Jax: And this is what's stopping us from having sex -- because you want a snack?
Carly: My stomach is rumbling. Didn't you hear my tummy rumble?
Jax: No, I didnít.
Carly: It's probably going to happen again, and I won't feel very sexy if it happens.
Jax: Okay, okay, okay, okay. What would you like? What would you like?
Carly: You pick.
Jax: Okay, I will -- I'll be right back.
Carly: All right.
Sonny: Okay, wait, wait -- tell me about this intruder that you think you saw.
Kate: Sonny, I am not making this up.
Sonny: I'm just saying it's dark, right, and you could've seen a shrub or a tree or a --
Kate: Yeah, shrubs don't walk around on two legs. Look, I was on my way over here, I saw this large mass sneaking around the side of my house. I followed it to the terrace doors, turns out to be a man. He tries the door handle, he's looking into my window, at which point I ran over here so that I can call the police.
Sonny: Okay, um, the -- the call can wait.
Kate: I left my jewelry out on the bedside table. I took it out for the ball and it's sitting there.
Sonny: Jewelry's safe.
Kate: You don't know that.
Sonny: Maybe you saw Max.
Kate: Max? What would Max be doing sneaking around my house at night? Sonny, what's going on?
Nikolas: I asked you to marry me.
Emily: And I said yes.
Nikolas: I put -- I put a ring on your finger. It was supposed to stay there forever. But when you died, I -- I kept it. I kept it for me as a memory of us.
Emily: Nikolas, I will always love you. That can never change.
Nikolas: Oh, God, oh, go oh, God, oh, God -- I don't want to wake up from this. I don't want to wake up from this, but I know I have to. I know I have to because the longer I stay with you, the worse it'll be when you're gone again, okay?
Emily: Nikolas, you're awake.
Nikolas: No, no, you can't be here! I want you to be here, but you can't be here. You're gone, you're dead --
Emily: I'm standing right here in front of you.
Nikolas: There was a funeral. There was police here for days, there was an investigation. Your friends, your family -- everybody's mourning you right now.
Emily: Okay, so maybe that was a dream. Nikolas -- look -- look at me. I'm touching your face, I'm touching your hands. Maybe it was just a --
Nikolas: You don't know how much I wanted to believe that this was a dream, how many times I screamed at myself to wake up so you'd be back with me again and this would all be over. You don't know how many times I did that!
Emily: Okay, okay. And now I am. So now I am.
Sonny: Max. Were you over at Kateís place?
Max: That's right, Mr. C.
Kate: On the patio?
Sonny: Yeah -- mystery solved. Okay, go.
Kate: Um -- no, Mr. Giambetti, you may not go. Did you also, by chance, try the door handle?
Max: Um -- you got good eyes, Ms. H.
Kate: So why were you trying to get into my house?
Max: Well, I was checking your security system to -- well, to make sure no one else could.
Kate: Max, why, exactly, is it your business to check my security system?
Max: Um -- well, it's a whole new system.
Kate: Excuse me?
Max: Um -- well, Mr. C had me install it for you --
Sonny: It's a technical thing; it's not a big deal.
Kate: Right, so Sonny asked you to do this?
Max: Um -- well, yeah, he wanted me to have it wired into the system here at the house.
Max: Uh -- yeah. Um -- well, if there's a -- a breach, we can, um -- it trips an alarm here at the house and we -- we're much closer than the cops, so we can, uh --
Kate: Mm-hmm. So what gave you the idea you could do any of this to my home?
Spinelli: Agh! Grr!
[Knock on door]
Georgie: Hey, Spinelli.
Spinelli: Oh, wise Georgie. What brings your cheery presence to this not-so-humble abode?
Georgie: You're feeling worse, aren't you?
Spinelli: The Jackal suspects germ warfare.
Georgie: You got a cold running around being brave and wonderful, so I made you soup.
Spinelli: You -- you made it expressly for the Jackal?
Georgie: Yeah, well, you know, I -- I was making it anyway because Mac really likes some chicken soup on a cold night and it's really easy, so I figured, you know, just chicken and vegetables in a pot.
Spinelli: Many thanks, but if, you know, the father of wise Georgie so loves his soup, far be it from --
Georgie: You need it. Spinelli, I looked it up on the internet, and chicken soup really does help make a cold better.
Spinelli: Uh --
Georgie: It's nice and hot. Do you at least just want to try some?
Spinelli: You are so kind and -- ooh, the aroma is most certainly enticing. Oh -- oh -- oh --
Spinelli: Oh -- my apologies. Oh Ė
Elizabeth: I wish we could stay together all night. Gram is bringing the boys home soon.
Jason: It's okay. Thank you for what you said today, I know it wasn't easy.
Elizabeth: Did it show how badly I wanted to throw up?
Jason: You looked beautiful.
Elizabeth: Standing up there -- it didn't even seem real. I mean, how could Emily be in that coffin? How could she be gone from the world? I didn't want to come home tonight. I didn't want to walk through that door into the rest of my life and Em was never going to call and she was never going to stop by and she's never going to make me laugh. Then I saw you waiting. And I know it's crazy, but I thought she did this. She knew how much I needed you.
Jason: As soon as I left that church, I knew I had to see you. I love you. I thank God for you every day and for Jake.
Elizabeth: That's my gram. The boys are here.
Jason: You want -- you want me to leave?
Elizabeth: I want you to stay.
Sonny: I -- I had to take precautions for you.
Kate: As if I was a child who needed her home safety-proofed for her own good?
Sonny: Well, the security in your home was horrible. Anybody could break in there.
Kate: Sonny, what you did was a total invasion of privacy. How did you manage this so quickly, Max?
Max: Well, I don't throw things together when it comes to protecting people. I've been working on all areas of security at your place now for weeks.
Kate: So exactly how many areas are there?
Sonny: Why stop now, Max?
Max: Well -- um -- there's the bodyguards that keep a tail on you.
Kate: Oh, so I'm being spied on, too?
Max: Um, men who check the grounds and sweep your car for explosive devices twice daily. And -- well, there's a -- a boat that patrols the lakefront.
Kate: Sonny --
Sonny: The protection was necessary for you, Kate. Have a drink.
Kate: I already have my own security system.
Sonny: You didn't even notice a -- a man that I put in place.
Kate: That is not the point.
Sonny: The point is that my enemies could be coming after you, and you need the same level of security that my own family has.
Kate: Um, here's an idea, Sonny -- why not tell me what you intended to do?
Sonny: Because you would've said no.
Sonny: Okay, why are you getting all worked up?
Kate: Because you acted presumptuously and I don't want it to continue. In fact, at this point, there's -- there's a lot of things that may not continue.
Max: Don't do it, Ms. H. Please don't break up with the boss.
Sonny: Okay --
Kate: So why exactly would you care whether the boss and I are together or not?
Max: Because if you break up with Mr. C, it's a sure bet that he's going to get all nostalgic about Mrs. C and he's going to want her back.
Kate: But Carly is married to Jax.
Sonny: Okay, conversation is over, Max.
Max: I'm just saying that Mr. C and Mrs. C always have this way of ending up back together. It's happened over and over, and it is torture. Listen, my own personal feelings for Mrs. C make it somewhat difficult for me to be in the same vicinity.
Sonny: Max, seriously, get out.
Max: I'm going to go.
Sonny: Yeah, out.
Max: Okay. Goodbye.
Kate: So I don't know which is worse -- the fact that you act without regard for my wishes, or the fact that I'm just a pit stop on your path back to reconciliation with your ex-wife.
[Knock on door]
Jax: What's going on?
Jax: Whoa. Now I know you want something.
Carly: Oh, I'm just in the mood for a romantic night with my very, very handsome husband -- who was so wonderful to bring me pizza chips and champagne.
Jax: If there's something you want to tell me, now would be a good time.
Carly: I know I've been off balance since that night at Wyndemere.
Jax: Hey, come here. You've been through a lot, okay? You're just shaken up. It's fine.
Carly: There's been so much death and tragedy, and I just want to focus on life. I love you.
Carly: And I'm so happy that we decided to spend the rest of our lives together.
Jax: I love you, too, and I will drink to that.
Carly: Okay. You're wonderful.
Jax: So are you. That's disgusting. What's going on with you?
Nikolas: Am I seeing you because -- because I feel guilty about killing you?
Emily: Nikolas, why do you keep saying that? You could never hurt me.
Nikolas: Or am I seeing you so -- so I don't feel guilty? So I can hear you say it wasn't my fault?
Emily: It wasnít.
Nikolas: If I close my eyes, will you disappear?
Emily: Okay, try it, hmm? Here we go.
Emily: You see? I'm not leaving you.
Nikolas: If you're real, why are you still wearing your gown?
Emily: Why shouldn't I be?
Nikolas: The ball was days ago.
Emily: Or maybe you've just had some terrible nightmare about finding me dead, because obviously I'm not.
Nikolas: What's the last thing you remember about the ball?
Emily: I came to find you, to see if you were all right.
Nikolas: And then what?
Emily: You were worried about me.
Nikolas: I was angry. I yelled at you.
Emily: Nikolas, you were upset, that's all.
Nikolas: And then I grabbed you, I hurt you, didn't I?
Emily: You're not listening to me. You would never hurt me.
Nikolas: Has anyone else seen you?
[Knock on door]
Alfred: I brought a light supper, Sir -- may I come in?
Nikolas: Just a minute, Alfred.
Alfred: You've eaten so little since Miss Emily's passing, Sir. I realize what a painful time it is for you, but you must keep up your strength.
Nikolas: Uh -- yes. Thank you.
Alfred: If I may, Sir, the service for Miss Emily was beautiful, but there are no words to fill the loss Miss Emily's passing left behind.
Nikolas: No. No, there sure arenít.
Alfred: If there's anything else I can do for you --
Nikolas: No, thank you, I'll call you.
Alfred: Yes, Sir.
Nikolas: Well, I guess that settles it. I really am insane.
Jax: Why didn't you swallow the champagne?
Carly: It didn't taste very good.
Jax: It's a really good bottle. This is a really nice -- nice champagne.
Carly: I think there's soap in the glass.
Jax: Oh. Well, you know what? Hey, you know, have some of mine. I don't want it to go to waste.
Carly: You know what? I forgot to tell you, I -- I'm not going to drink champagne anymore.
Jax: We -- are you kidding me? You love champagne. You love champagne more than pizza -- if that's even possible -- so, please. There's -- I don't want it to go to waste, and there's plenty.
Carly: You know -- blotches.
Carly: I read somewhere that you -- champagne can give you big, red blotches.
Jax: You know, the only time I've ever seen you with blotches was after you sat on that sea urchin during our honeymoon, where I recall you drank plenty of champagne.
Carly: Yeah. I'm -- you know, I don't want to take my chances. I don't want to look bad for you, you know?
Jax: Okay, you know what? We don't have to drink. We don't you're so beautiful. You really are. I love you just the way you are.
Carly: Jax, take me to bed.
Georgie: I feel so awkward. I -- I look big and shapeless and -- ugh.
Spinelli: Beautiful. The Jackal is astonished he never noticed before.
Georgie: God bless you.
Spinelli: Many thanks. Um, the Jackal was just researching chicken soup, and wise Georgie is correct. It is most beneficial for cold and flu-like symptoms. Apparently, it has some -- a chemical composition that helps alleviate respiratory discomfort and inflammation. And, again, my sincere apologies for spilling your culinary effort on your attire.
Georgie: No, it -- it's okay. Jason's robe is a little big. I -- I feel kind of silly.
Spinelli: Oh, it's not Stone Cold's. It -- it hangs in the regrettably pink room that once belonged to Stone Cold's mysterious and seldom-mentioned first wife, brenda.
Georgie: Oh. It must be Jax's.
Spinelli: The Jackal had no idea that the Valkyrie's husband was ever involved with Stone Cold's spouse.
Georgie: They were married once. It didn't really work out. But Jax found his true soul mate in the Valkyrie -- Carly.
Spinelli: They are most certainly blissful.
Georgie: Yeah. I guess the moral of that story is the person you truly wind up loving could be sitting right next to you and you don't even know it.
Spinelli: Huh. Huh. Hmm.
Elizabeth: Go inside, please.
[Car drives away]
Jason: Whoa. What've you been eating?
Elizabeth: Apparently, Gram thought he wouldn't miss Emily so much if he had a big piece of chocolate cake.
Jason: Oh, you know what? There you go. Emily loved chocolate cake. She used to get one of the cooks at the Quartermaines' to bake her this big chocolate cake about once a week. You'd like that, wouldn't you -- a big cake?
Elizabeth: He told me he's going to miss all the puppet shows that he and Emily used to put on.
Jason: Puppet shows?
Elizabeth: He has this big basket of puppets in his room, and the two of them would make up these stories and -- your favorite was the falcon and the prince, right?
Jason: Well, maybe -- maybe you can show me sometime, huh?
Jason: Mm-hmm? Okay.
Elizabeth: Oh, that would be fun. But right now it's bath time, so let's go upstairs, buddy. Do you think you can --
Elizabeth: Watch him? Here you go.
Jason: There you go. Hey. Come on.
Elizabeth: Come on, let's get cleaned up.
Jason: Jake. Emily won't be here to watch you grow up. I'm sorry because you would've loved her.
Nikolas: I've heard of people thinking that they've caught a glimpse of a -- a loved one who's died -- in a crowd or across the street. Some people even claim to have seen ghosts. But they can't touch them like this.
Emily: Well, then I must be real.
Nikolas: No, you can't be.
Emily: But all of your senses keep telling you that I am, Nikolas.
Nikolas: But I'm the only one who can see you. So unless I'm having the most intense real dream of my life, the only explanation is I'm losing my mind.
Emily: No, you're not insane.
Nikolas: But we both know something's wrong with me. I black out, I hurt people -- look what I've done. Look at what I've done to people. I stabbed Jerry and almost threw Sam off the --
Emily: But they aren't me!
Nikolas: They are you. They are you -- because I hurt you, too.
Emily: At the ball, you had a blackout. You and Jason fought. He tied you to a chair.
Nikolas: And I told you to leave me there.
Emily: Yeah, and I couldn't stay away. I came back to make sure that you were all right.
Nikolas: Emily, I grabbed you, I yelled at you, I told you that I couldn't protect you anymore. Do you remember that?
Emily: Yeah. You grabbed me, but it -- it wasn't --
Emily: Uh -- I don't know, I -- I can't remember anything after that.
Nikolas: Well, neither can I.
Nikolas: So sometime between that moment and the moment I found you on the floor, I must've strangled you.
Emily: No, but you don't remember killing me. You don't remember killing me, Nikolas, because you couldn't kill me!
Nikolas: Emily --
Nikolas: What is it?
Emily: I'm still dead.
Georgie: My clothes are almost dry.
Spinelli: You know, the Jackal's noticed something tonight that he's been too blind to notice before.
Georgie: He has -- you have?
Spinelli: Yeah, wise Georgie harbors a romantic soul that she keeps hidden, you know, but it's best to reveal it if you wish to find true love.
Georgie: I don't think that would work.
Spinelli: Why not? I mean, wise Georgie has much to offer -- kindness and -- and beauty and generosity and a warm heart. Many males would flock to such a woman.
Georgie: It only takes one, right?
Spinelli: Spoken again like a true romantic.
Georgie: Do you really think that I'm beautiful?
[Knock on door]
Spinelli: Excuse the poorly timed interruption. Hi.
Nadine: You sounded so awful on the phone. Are you feeling any better?
Spinelli: Alas, the Jackal's sinuses are still severely stuffed.
Nadine: Then you will definitely be needing this chicken soup.
Spinelli: Oh, it pleases me that you care, and you and wise Georgie are of a single mind.
Sonny: Max has this kind of thing, you know, for Carly?
Kate: Mm-hmm, that much is clear.
Sonny: And it -- it's -- it's gotten worse, you know, when he went to go work for her at the Metro Court as head of security, and then that's why he had to come back to work for me -- so he wouldn't see her as much.
Kate: Well, unless you and Carly get back together.
Sonny: Kate, that's never going to happen, you know that.
Kate: Max seems pretty sure that it will.
Sonny: Well, Max lives in a fantasy world.
Kate: I don't know -- Carly's very proprietary. First time she saw me here at your house, she practically tried to claw my eyes out.
Sonny: Okay, like I've told you how many times, Carly -- you know -- and I are connected because of our kids, we have a long history. But she's happily married to Jax, and I am very, very committed to you, as you know.
Kate: Mm-hmm, yeah -- which makes you think that you can control my life.
Sonny: No, you know what the truth is? I don't want you to end up like Emily or Leticia.
Kate: Sonny, I am an independent woman.
Sonny: Oh, you've said that to me many times.
Kate: I do not want to be perceived as being under your protection. I do not want anything to do with the dangerous, criminal aspect of your life. I fully intend to resume my career as a fashion editor of some other magazine, so I am just asking you, back off.
Sonny: Kate, Anthony Zacchara could've killed you. You know that.
Kate: Anthony Zacchara is locked up, paralyzed from the neck down.
Sonny: You don't think there could be somebody else? I have enemies. I mean, they're -- you know, they come after me, that's what they do. If you want to be with me, you have to be protected.
Kate: Sounds like an ultimatum.
Sonny: No. You know what it sounds like -- it's reality.
Kate: Well, you better rethink reality, or you are not going to like what happens next.
Kate: I don't do ultimatums.
Sonny: My enemies know that we're seeing each other, Kate.
Kate: I will not be kept in a cage, Sonny. So until you can remove your men and your electronic security devices, I want nothing do with you.
Sonny: You cannot be serious. You already know what Anthony Zacchara is capable of. What if there's another maniac out there just waiting to get into your house, to use you to get to me?
Kate: Your scare tactics will not sway me.
Sonny: Oh, no?
Sonny: What if it's somebody closer -- like Trevor Lansing?
Kate: You are not getting your way with this.
Sonny: My way keeps you alive!
Kate: My way lets me breathe.
Sonny: I'm not taking away your security, I'm sorry.
Kate: Okay, fine.
Kate: I'll do it myself.
Kate: Okay, if I see one boat, one bodyguard, one minesweeper -- whatever it is you assign to me, I will have them arrested for trespassing.
Sonny: We can reach a compromise.
Kate: Until you can respect my boundaries, give me a call, all right, "Mr. C"? Until then, we're not seeing each other.
Jason: He's got my hands.
Jason: Jake -- I -- I look at his hands and I see mine. Uh -- that doesn't make any sense, does it?
Elizabeth: I think it's very sweet.
Jason: He obviously fell asleep. I -- I was going to carry him upstairs, but I didn't want to wake him up.
Elizabeth: It's okay, he can stay down here for a while.
Jason: I just love to watch him sleep.
Elizabeth: I know. He's so angelic with those pink little cheeks and those long lashes.
Jason: It's -- it's so peaceful here. I'm not really used to that.
Elizabeth: I'm glad you're here tonight.
Jason: I didn't know where else to go.
Elizabeth: Emily would want us to be there for each other.
Jason: I don't -- I don't know what happens next.
Elizabeth: Huh. And neither do I. But I know I love you.
Jason: I love you, too.
Emily: I don't want my life to be over. Nikolas, I want a future that I can share with you.
Nikolas: Emily, Emily, wait, wait. I can talk to you. I can hold you. Yes. After these last few days of missing you and being alone, that's -- that's all that really matters, isn't it? I -- I don't care about the hows and whys that brought you back here. I don't even care if I'm insane. You're here. You're here. You're here. You're here.
>> On the next "General Hospital" --
Jax: Something's going on because you wouldn't be working this hard to cover your tracks.
Sonny: All the victims are connected to me. The strangler's an enemy of mine.
Jason: It couldn't have been Zacchara.
Emily: So it's true -- I'm dead?
