Luke: Hang on tight, angel. Here we go. How long before we know something?
Robin: If Laura does respond to the treatment, it should happen soon.
Ric: I've got another bullet for your reelection speech. I just got a conviction on the Sinclair murder.
Mayor Floyd: Congratulations. You're doing an excellent job as the interim D.A.
Ric: Well, thank you very much. I'm glad you think so.
Mayor Floyd: Mm-hmm.
Ric: It's important that we work well together, mayor. I think with this conviction, we're well on our way to --
Sonny: Hey, mayor.
Ric: Excuse me. We're having a meeting.
Sonny: Yeah. You're going to have to leave because I got to have a face-to-face with my brother. I got to talk to him about something -- it's a family matter.
Carly: You can't pretend there's nothing wrong. You're obviously sick.
Alexis: I'm on new medication. That's probably what it is.
Carly: That wouldn't cause a fever, Alexis.
Alexis: I'm not going to the hospital. I'm spending the night with the girls and that's final.
Carly: Ok. That's a great idea because Kristina could come out here and find you dead on the couch, but whatever.
Jason: You know I'm around if -- if you need help.
Elizabeth: Yeah. I appreciate that. And I want us to still be friends.
Jason: Yeah, always.
Jason: I'm -- I'm happy for you. It's good this turned out the way you wanted.
Elizabeth: Did it turn out the way you want?
Sam: Jason, I need you to talk me -- down. Is this about the baby? Did you -- did you get a paternity test back?
Jason: The baby is Luckyís.
Elizabeth: Well, everything's been resolved now. We can all get on with our lives.
Jason: Yeah, I'd still like to help any way I can.
Elizabeth: Thank you. But I always intended to raise this child on my own no matter who the father turned out to be. I just wanted to tell you face to face.
Jason: Thank you.
Sam: Are you upset that you're not the father?
Jason: Nah, it's better this way. What happened with Alexis?
Sam: Oh. She was honest. She doesn't want me around, ever.
Jason: I'm sorry to hear that.
Sam: Yeah, me, too. You know there was one point where I would've done absolutely anything. I mean, I would've paid any price just to be around her, and it's over. She doesn't want me around and I am -- I am happy to be gone.
Mayor Floyd: Mr. Corinthos, I don't take orders from you, and you can't just barge into the D.A.'s office.
Sonny: Well, I'm sorry to offend you, mayor. It's just that, you know, we're family. You know how family is -- you understand, right?
Mayor Floyd: As a matter of fact, I donít.
Sonny: Would it help if I arranged another photo op, maybe put my arm around you in front of the PCPD? Or buy a table at your next fundraiser, or maybe you'll want to try to win this election in the middle of a garbage strike?
Mayor Floyd: Are you threatening me?
Ric: I'll --
Sonny: I'm not threatening --
Ric: I'll handle it. I got it.
Mayor Floyd: Please see that you do.
Ric: Mm-hmm. You skipping your meds?
Sonny: Yeah, that's funny.
Sonny: I -- you know what? I appreciate you dropping the charges against Jason even though you -- you didn't have a choice because Alexis backed you into a corner, but it was a nice gesture.
Ric: Threatening the mayor in front of the interim District Attorney is insane.
Sonny: Here's the thing, Ric -- when I give a warning, it's man to man. It's equal, for the most part. I say you do it, you do it. But I don't threaten women, especially women who have cancer and are going through chemotherapy and are the mother of my children. This has to end. You got to stop upsetting Alexis and -- you know, threatening to take Molly away. You can't do it.
Ric: You know what, I really have so many things to do --
Sonny: And you're going to leave me and my organization alone because if you don't --
Sonny: Pay attention.
Sonny: Brother or no brother, I will come down on you like the wrath of God. I will make you look so incompetent; they will run you out of this job on a rail. You see how that works?
Ric: Hmm, no, that's --
Ric: That's clever. You know, if you could stop the macho posturing for just a minute, think about it -- how much I know about you and your organization -- are you sure you really want me as an enemy?
Luke: Laura? Laura, Dr. Scorpio found a miracle drug. It's called LS-49. It was developed in Paris by a medical scientist named Dr. Georges Legrasse. It's going to give you a road, a road home to us. And it works quickly, so if you feel anything, if you hear my voice, try to squeeze my hand. Do you remember when we were on the run from Frank Smith? We always had a place that we would meet if we got separated, a secret place -- the alley in that -- in that little street in El Paso behind the beer bar, the children's playground in Nova Scotia, the rug merchant shop in Istanbul? Well, now we have this little room here in Port Charles. This is our meeting place. Try to find your way to where I am here waiting for you. You can see Lucky and Lulu and your mom and everyone who loves you. We're waiting for you. Please try to find your way back.
Robin: You were right. We should've never given Luke false hope or told him about LS-49 because now it's obviously not going to work and I just put Laura at risk for horrible side effects.
Patrick: We told Luke about the side effects from day one.
Robin: Yeah, but I told him about it because I wanted it to work. That's why I didn't push harder to get the family involved --
Patrick: Yeah, but you --
Robin: Or to get other medical opinions.
Patrick: Robin, we gave him opposite opinions. That's appropriate in this situation, plus you told him to go to Paris to meet with Legrasse.
Robin: I didn't tell anyone the entire truth. The truth is I needed to believe that it could work, that a condition as horrible as Laura has can be reversed, that it's only a matter of time waiting for the right combination of medicine. I needed to believe that science and medicine could find a way to save Laura because if there is hope for Laura, then there's hope for all of us and there's hope for me.
Lucky: Is my dad here?
Robin: Yeah. Just give him a second, ok?
Patrick: Lucky -- Lucky --
Robin: Wait, you guys --
Lulu: What -- what are you doing to her?
Lulu: What is in her I.V. bag?
Robin: It's an experimental drug. It's been -- it's been known to repair damaged neural pathways.
Nikolas: Why didn't you tell us?
Robin: Because Luke wanted to make the decision on his own. He didn't want to burden the three of you in case something were to go wrong.
Patrick: Side effects could be very serious.
Nikolas: Ok. Earlier today, you told me that her condition was irreversible. And -- and now, without consulting me or any other blood relative, you've given her a drug that might actually make her worse?
Robin: Nikolas, it could also bring her back.
Patrick: There's a possibility it could do nothing at all.
Lucky: What are the side effects?
Patrick: Laura could end up in a chronic vegetative state.
Nikolas: Ok, get the -- get the -- get off me.
Robin: Nikolas, you cannot -- no.
Luke: Ok, you have two choices -- you leave on your own or I help you out.
Nikolas: You can be as reckless as you want with your own life, Luke. But I won't allow you to risk my motherís.
Luke: You won't allow?
Patrick: You guys, take it outside now. If Laura regains consciousness, we don't want her agitated.
Nikolas: You had no right to do this without consulting us.
Luke: I had no right?
Nikolas: No right --
Lulu: This is why you left the Quartermaines' so fast, isn't it?
Nikolas: And -- and since when is Luke making decisions about Lauraís care? We're her children --
Nikolas: Making us next of kin. They're not even married anymore!
Lucky: Ok, why didn't you tell us?
Lulu: Because he knew we would try and stop him. She is our mother. How could you risk making her get worse?
Nikolas: We're her children and we want this stopped immediately.
Lucky: No. I donít.
Epiphany: Do you know the results of your paternity test? I -- I don't want to know. But I do need one of my best nurses to get her head back in the game.
Elizabeth: Yes, I have the results and I just came from Jasonís, but Carly already told him that he's not the father.
Epiphany: Well, now that you know, you can start focusing on your work again.
Carly: I need some help over here. She's about to collapse -- it's bad.
Alexis: Could you not turn my situation into your own personal drama?
Carly: Would you stop and let someone help you?
Alexis: I just don't want you to scream in the hospital and draw all this attention.
Carly: Ok. All right. She's running a temperature of about 103. She wouldn't let me take it. She's really irritable. My guess is she's not taking any fluids. This is the second round of anti-nausea medication. You may want to check for contraindications.
Epiphany: Well, thank you. Didn't your doctor tell you --?
Epiphany: That cancer and chemo will make you vulnerable infection --
Epiphany: Anemia and other kinds of problems?
Alexis: Yes. I'm not that sick, honestly.
Epiphany: How long have you been running the fever?
Alexis: I don't know. I don't --
Epiphany: You shouldn't ignore a fever, and you're just lucky that Mrs. Corinthos was kind enough to bring you in here. You owe this woman a big debt of gratitude.
Alexis: Thank you. I do.
Sam: Alexis was punishing me all these weeks. She kept pushing me and Ric together she said it was for the sake of the family, for Molly and Kristina. She just -- she wanted me to feel guilty. Or maybe it was worse, Jason. Maybe -- maybe she wanted to push me back into bed with Ric. She has such a low opinion of me. †I think she just kept baiting me to live down to it.
Jason: Look, I -- I'm not going to stick up for Alexis, but it is hard to think clearly when you're hurt and you're scared and -- and right now, Alexis is both.
Sam: Well, you know, at least the truth finally came out thanks to you.
Jason: All I did was lose it and almost kill Ric.
Jason: Ric set me up. He said something rude about you. I reacted, Ric was counting on Sonny to save him, he filed attempted murder charges, and then Alexis got them dropped.
Sam: "Dropped"? That doesn't make any sense. She's been trying to put you in jail for months.
Jason: Maybe it's a way to hurt Ric.
Sam: Jason, I feel like such a fool. All these weeks, I'm -- I'm like -- I'm right there beside her bed holding her hand. I'm -- I'm thinking that we're making a connection and -- and it's all a lie.
Jason: You hurt Alexis, ok? She's angry, she hurt you back, but that doesn't mean it wasn't all lies.
Sonny: We got a situation.
Jason: Can -- can it wait?
Jason: What's the problem?
Sonny: Ric. He's out of control. †Alexis threw Ric out of the house last night. Ric was trying to take Molly. I warned him to back off. He's not going to listen because he's got nothing to lose. He's like a loose cannon. Whatever happens, Alexis is going to need your support.
Sam: She doesn't want to have anything to do with me, Sonny.
Sonny: She's your mother. She's going through chemo;, she threw her husband out. She needs her daughter, Sam.
Sam: I know, but cancer or no cancer, we are not going to bond. She despises me.
Sonny: Ok. I understand that you're upset because she hurt you, but whatever she did does not compare to you sleeping with Ric.
Jason: Ok. Hold on, Sonny.
Sonny: No, no, I'm just --
Jason: That's not cool, come on.
Sonny: Ok, listen. I'm just saying she's got to take some responsibility here. She did sleep with her, you know, mother's husband.
Jason: Sonny --
Sonny: You need to make amends for that. That's all I'm saying.
Sam: Well, that is not going to happen, so --
Sonny: Oh, ok. If your mother dies and you have this between the both of you, you're going to regret it the rest of your life.
Carly: Sam, it's Carly. Yeah, I just brought Alexis to the hospital. She's taken a turn for the worse.
Carly: I just called Sam.
Alexis: I don't want to see her, Carly.
Carly: Because she slept with Ric?
Alexis: Oh, God, please. I don't want to deal with this right now.
Carly: I thought you weren't that sick.
Carly: Anyway, that's what you get for marrying that freak. You got off easy compared to what he did to me.
Alexis: What would it take? What could I pay you to make you stop harping at me?
Carly: If you're upset because you got cheated on, you slept with my husband and you got pregnant.
Alexis: A, we thought you were dead; B, I wasn't your daughter.
Carly: I slept with Tony Jones while my mother was married to him.
Carly: That's the reason I came to town -- to steal my mother's husband. It was deliberate; it was calculated -- a thousand times worse than what Sam did to you.
Alexis: In which universe does -- does it make any of this ok?
Carly: Oh, it's not ok. None of it's ok. But in the universe of mothers and daughters, my mother forgave me, Alexis, ok? It was difficult, but Bobbie forgave me and she didn't set out to humiliate me or to cause me pain. She forgave me because she's my mother and that's what mothers do.
Alexis: That's what Bobbie did.
Carly: So, what, you can't learn from her example? You're not perfect. You're not blameless. Get over yourself and forgive Sam. She made a huge mistake, but you know what? Ric was right there next to her, and based on Ricís track record, I can tell you right now that he's the one that hit on her. So why punish your daughter because your husband's a dog?
Ric: No, not just the Corinthos/Morgan warehouse. I want you to raid all of Corinthos' business and his home, as well. You let me worry about probable cause. You worry about your job. Thank you.
Mayor Floyd: Your brother is turning out to be a real problem.
Ric: Well, that stops as of right now. Corinthos and Morgan are my number one priority. Other District Attorneys have tried to bring them down before, myself included, but I am going to make that happen.
Mayor Floyd: Really? How exactly do you plan to make that work?
Ric: Well, I know all the ins and outs, all the weaknesses of their business. I now have the power and the means to bring them down. The political ramifications for you are pretty obvious. My suggestion is you get on the bandwagon while you still can.
Mayor Floyd: And what would getting on this bandwagon involve?
Ric: Well, for starters, you no longer refer to me as the interim District Attorney and you make the position permanent.
Mayor Floyd: What about Alexis?
Ric: Mayor, Alexis is always going to be soft on crime in this town because of her daughter's relationship with Morgan. Morgan pretty much tried to kill me this week and Alexis argued against getting an indictment. Look, she was not your first choice. And we don't know how well she's going to be in order to come back to work.
Mayor Floyd: Alexis -- Alexis Davis is your wife. You plan on taking her job while she's sick?
Ric: Well, I'm trying to make a clean break here. Alexis is no longer a factor in my life. My daughter, Molly, is the person I'm trying to protect right now. If you want Corinthos and Morgan off the streets, this is how we do it.
Lucky: Mom and dad are not married on paper, but they're as close as two people can be.
Nikolas: Not from a legal standpoint, they're not, Lucky. We can stop this right now before our mother ends up trapped in a bed breathing through a tube.
Lucky: Ok, you know what? I haven't made the greatest choices lately,; my credibility is shot. But if the mother I knew growing up had a choice between getting her life back or sitting in a chair and staring at a wall --
Lulu: At least she's alive!
Lucky: Is she? What kind of life does she have? You know what? That medicine may work; it may not. But I know our mother would take that chance, and all dad did was do it for her.
Nikolas: How long will it take before the medicine starts to work?
Robin: Laura should be responding by now.
Patrick: Just give them a second.
Luke: Laura? Sweetheart, I'm here. Can you hear me, Laura?
Nikolas: If Laura wakes up, what should we expect?
Lulu: How much will she remember?
Patrick: There's a chance she might experience memory loss, a change in personality. Then there's the trauma that caused the initial catatonia.
Lulu: Oh, so, if she remembers, she might go crazy again?
Patrick: A strong possibility, yes.
Nikolas: So -- so you could be bringing her back just so she can live through her stepfather's death all over again? And that's assuming that she comes around at all.
Lulu: How could you do this? Why couldn't you just leave her alone?
Lucky: Nothing at all?
Luke: There's nothing to be sorry for. This is why I didn't want the family involved.
Alexis: It's very easy for you to stand there and preach, but what would you do if you had a daughter that slept with your husband? How easy would it be for you to forgive her?
Carly: I don't know. I'd like to say that I could forgive her, because my mother forgave me. But I'm not as nice as my mother, so I'd have to say it depends.
Alexis: I can't believe I'm going to ask this, but on what?
Carly: On my husband. But you never really loved Ric.
Carly: He's a cold-hearted jerk. He's dead inside.
Alexis: Not to me.
Carly: Oh, give me a break, Alexis. The only reason you married Ric was because he was Sonny's brother. You couldn't have Sonny, so you settled for what you thought was the next best thing.
Carly: And, boy, you were sure wrong, weren't you?
Alexis: Oh, here we go.
Carly: The only thing Ric and Sam hurt was your pride.
Alexis: You have no idea what you're talking about.
Carly: You know what I know? I know that Sam has been kicked around her entire life. And she started to love you, maybe just a little bit. And she made a huge mistake. But you're going to punish her. You are going to punish her more than she deserves to be punished, so you know what I say? I say get over yourself. Because you have not led a flawless life. I think it's time you start showing your daughter a little compassion.
Carly: Hi. And now would be a really good time for that. Excuse me.
Alexis: I'm surprised you're here.
Sam: Was it a mistake for me to come?
Mayor Floyd: This is an election year. The press will have a field day with me if I boot a woman with cancer from such a high-profile office.
Ric: Alexis cannot work while she's going through chemo. And by the time she's done, our divorce will be final. In the meantime, you put out a rumor that you think Alexis is a liability because she shares an illegitimate child with Sonny Corinthos. This is not true, of course. You come out, you deny it. You say you're outraged and that you're sure that she would never compromise her position as D.A. in order to keep the peace with Corinthos. You keep the negative stuff out there while you protect yourself by defending Alexis. It's really not that complicated, Mayor.
Mayor Floyd: You're just as entrenched as Alexis. Corinthos is your brother. You worked for him.
Ric: Yes, I worked for him in order to gain full knowledge of his organization. And now I'm in the position in order to bring it down. That's all true, by the way.
Mayor Floyd: That's convenient.
Ric: As District Attorney, I will make it my goal that Jason Morgan gets a lethal injection, and my brother spends the rest of his life in a prison cell.
Mayor Floyd: You do all that, and this job is yours, permanently.
Sonny: I know, I know. I came down pretty hard on Sam, but you know what? Alexis is sick. Sam's got to step up.
Jason: Ok, even if Sam reaches out, you know Alexis can be pretty distant and cold.
Sonny: Yes, I do know that. And meanwhile, she's in the hospital, which makes her more vulnerable to Ric.
Jason: Well, I wish you would just let me take care of Ric.
Sonny: You put him in the hospital, remember? Even if the charges didn't stick, if Ric disappears, you'll -- you'll be the prime suspect. Yeah, now he's a public official, and you know what that means. A death penalty bounce. What we need to do is contain him.
Bernie: The police are raiding the warehouse, the businesses, and Sonny's house. They hit everything simultaneously.
Jason: Ric just made his first move.
Bernie: I -- I was able to block anything that might prove problematic.
Bernie: I gave the police full run of the legitimate businesses.
Sonny: That's good, that's good.
Bernie: And so Ric won't be able to use anything against the operation. But he was able to shut us down, at least temporarily.
Sonny: You did a good job minimizing the damage.
Bernie: Thank you.
Sonny: We're going to stop all illegal activities until further notice. Alcazar can do whatever the hell he wants to do. Jason and I are going to make some serious changes to stop Ric from taking this any further.
Bernie: I'll get the word out.
Sonny: All right. Whew. So -- you're going to be fine with all this? Me running the business and -- if you got an issue with Ric, you got to tell me.
Jason: You know what I think should happen to Ric. I'm not -- I'm not going to keep repeating myself. This is business. You're in charge. It's your call.
Sonny: He's going to exploit every weakness you have, and that includes Elizabeth. You know that, right?
Jason: What do you mean?
Sonny: Well, Ric knows you slept with her. Unlike Sam, Elizabeth likes Ric. He has access to her. He's going to -- he's going to use her to provoke you, and I'm just telling you -- you got to be able to handle that.
Jason: Ok. I'll handle it.
Alexis: Carly thinks that I should forgive you, and find a way to get past this. Maybe she's right -- I don't know. You know, Sam, I think the truth is I canít. Not now. Because I am too hurt and I'm too tired and I'm too sick. Maybe you were right when you said that we don't really fit as mother and daughter. Maybe we just missed too much time together. From the start, all we've done is hurt each other, whether intentionally or by accident. And I need for it to stop. I do. So I think it would be best for both of us if we kept our distance. Yeah.
Sam: Ok. I mean, if that's what you want, then I -- I will respect it. I'm not closing the door on you. And if you -- if you change your mind -- well, you know where to find me. But you know, we both know that you won't, because truthfully, you really do like being alone. So actually, I'm -- I'm kind of glad that I could finally give you something that you want. You are now a victim. Enjoy.
Ric: Ric Lansing.
Dr. Trent: Dr. Trent. Look, Alexis has just been brought in with a high fever. I've admitted her.
Ric: Do you have any idea what caused the fever?
Dr. Trent: Secondary infection, probably triggered by the chemo. And we've started her on I.V. antibiotics, but I need to meet with you as soon as possible to discuss her options.
Ric: Alexis and I are separated, doctor. I'm sure that she wouldn't want me involved. But thanks for letting me know.
Luke: How is she?
Robin: Laura's still unresponsive. We all knew that there was a very small chance that this treatment could work. The good news is Laura does not seem to be experiencing any of the side effects.
Nikolas: Is there -- is there anything that we can do?
Patrick: We'll keep an eye on her. Unfortunately, there should have been a response by now.
Robin: I'm so sorry. This is not the outcome any of us wanted.
Nikolas: I want to say goodbye to her. †When Spencer gets a little older, I promise I'll bring him here to see you, ok? You should see how big he's gotten, already. You know, I see more of you in him every day. That look in your eye. The smile. Strong will. That's all I have left of you. That's ok. That's ok, because I'm grateful for that. I love you.
Lucky: I wish I had you back. But I can't change that, so -- I'll find some way to accept it. That's how I've been getting my life back, one day at a time. I'm getting clean and sober for Elizabeth, our baby, and for you, mom. I love you.
Lulu: I really wanted you back. But I was scared, too. Dad said that you would understand about the abortion, but I don't know. What if you didn't? And if you came out of it, I'm so afraid that you wouldn't want me as a daughter anymore. I just -- I wish -- I miss you.
Jason: It all worked out for the best. Lucky's getting his life together -- for the baby. Maybe Elizabeth will take him back. Maybe she won't -- I don't know. She's not going to have to deal with the danger of my life or be afraid for her kids.
Sonny: Well, that's nice for Lucky and Elizabeth. What about you?
Jason: I thought I'd -- I thought I'd be relieved.
Sonny: But you're not?
Jason: Nah, I guess I was getting my hopes up without realizing it. Anyway, you know, the kid isn't mine.
Sonny: What about Sam? Now that you have no ties to Elizabeth, you want to get back with her?
Ric: Hey, guys, how are you? Hi, Kristina. How you doing?
Kristina: I met Ariel. She's a real mermaid.
Ric: Wow. That's pretty exciting.
Kristina: And she already sent me an e-mail.
Ric: That's pretty amazing.
Kristina: And -- and I want to show mommy, but she already left.
Viola: Alexis is in the hospital having a checkup.
Ric: Oh, I see. Well, I caught a little bit of a break in between my meetings, so I just thought I would come by and I would take my little one here to the park. In a little while, we're going to go for a walk. What do you say? How does that sound, huh?
Kristina: Could Ariel come?
Ric: You know what, sweetie? You know how you like to spend time with Sonny? Just you and he -- you and your dad, right? Well, that's what I'm going to do with my little girl right here. Mm-hmm.
Luke: So much for the miracle of modern medicine. I guess you were right, Dr. Drake.
Patrick: I wish I hadn't been.
Robin: Luke, I apologize for creating false hope.
Luke: I think you had some hopes brewing yourself, didn't you? Well, I'm sorry you kids got involved. I know it's disappointing.
Robin: Well, we'll give you some time. Take as long as you want.
Robin: Excuse me. I should have stayed in research. Every single time I step out of the lab, look what happens. You were right. I should have told the family. Now Nikolas is furious with me, and I don't blame him. And -- poor Lulu. I should have insisted that Luke inform them. The thing is, though, I honestly thought that LS49 would work.
Patrick: It might still work.
Singer: All alone
Luke: I hope you're safe in there. Wherever you are.
Singer: And it seems the silence is my only friend
Luke: I hope you're not afraid. I hope this didn't cause you any pain. I had to try to bring you back. For the kids. And for us.
Singer: And I'm dreaming that I'll hold her as we talk
Luke: We've beaten the odds so many times.
Singer: I'd give anything
Luke: You and I.
Singer: To have a second chance
Luke: But I guess this time, the house wins.
Singer: Since I live just for her
Luke: Our luck didn't hold.
Singer: And how can I erase the way we were? I will wait
Luke: I love you.
Singer: For I know tonight the silence is my only friend
>> On the next "General Hospital" --
Viola: Are you sure this is all right with Alexis?
Ric: Your mom's going to want you back.
Alexis: What? Took her where?
Sonny: She slept with Ric. Can you live with that?
Laura: Are you all right?
Luke: You came back to me!
