Carly: So, this good time that you've been promising me better be real good to keep my mind off Sonny.

Patrick: Then we'd better get started.

Nikolas: Hey. Come here.

Carly: Oh, you better turn around.

Robin: Thanks. I needed that.

Sam: I didn't steal any file.

Alexis: I left it on Rodriguez's desk. It had information on it that could implicate Jason. You were standing there when I left, and when I returned, the paper was gone. So what am I supposed to think?

Sam: I don't know. I'm your daughter. You're the one who gave me this job. I think you should give me the benefit of the doubt.

Ric: Must be loving this, Jason. When Sonny gets to walk through that door, you're going to present him with the proof that I bought that dress for Emily and that I lied about it --

Jason: You messed with Sonny's head to push him toward a breakdown, Ric.

Ric: This isn't about some sort of sinister plot of mine to loosen Sonny's grip on reality, Jason. This is about jealousy, plain and simple. You're threatened by the fact that I'm Sonny's brother, so you're determined to drive me out of his life.

Sonny: I've had many good times with Carly, but they just never lasted. And -- and the bad times were so painful. All we could do was let go of each other.

Lainey: And this happened more than once?

Sonny: Well, it's what we did every time we got together.

Lainey: Do you see the pattern in other aspects of your life?

Sonny: Uh -- well, when the times are good, they're amazing. When the times are bad, feels like rock bottom.

Lainey: And this last time?

Sonny: Well, it was the worst it's ever been. I'm still a little shaky. I feel like  -- like if I feel too much, I'll just shatter like a piece of glass. That's what it feels like to be Bipolar, isn't it?

Nikolas: Let's go.

Robin: Now?

Nikolas: Yeah, we need to keep up the momentum. Let's go.

Carly: Okay, you do realize that Robin is putting on a show?

Patrick: Robin can do whatever she wants.

Carly: Yeah, and you're sitting here spitting nails. Hey, Nikolas is a prince. He has impeccable manners. There's no way that he would put one finger on her unless she asked him to. The question is, are you going to retaliate with a show of your own?

Robin: I know it's so juvenile rising to Patrick's bait.

Nikolas: Well, how can you help it? I mean, the man's flaunting Carly around like she's his badge of sexual independence.

Robin: Why can't I just give up on him?

Patrick: Why can't I just give up on her?

Lucky: Elizabeth and I were each other's first loves. I rescued her, helped her heal, and I -- I was her hero then, but I'm not anymore.

Maxie: You just got a medal and a promotion.

Lucky: You know, it's funny that Elizabeth said all the right things about how proud she was of me, and then she turned right around and started flirting with Patrick again.

Maxie: I'm sorry, Lucky.

Lucky: You know what? Elizabeth and I have been drifting apart the last few months. We were teens when we fell in love. I wanted to be a musician and she wanted to be a painter. We'd fantasize about our future, how we wanted to move to New York and make all our dreams come true, and -- now I'm a cop, she's a nurse, and we barely have time to even be together.

Maxie: You care about your work. There is nothing wrong with that.

Lucky: I don't think Elizabeth has ever been really comfortable with me being a cop. Actually, I think she has more in common with Patrick and -- I mean, she always makes every excuse she can to be at work, any way to be closer to him. I'm not going to stand around and watch it happen, either.

Maxie: Are you okay?

Lucky: I'm fine. You know, I should be getting back to work, but just -- thanks for listening.

Maxie: Anytime.

Elizabeth: Hey, Maxie, have you seen Lucky? I called the station. Rodriguez thought he might be stopping by.

Maxie: No. I haven't seen him all day.

Sam: Jason broke up with me. Why would I risk my new job to protect him?

Alexis: Maybe you just didn't think it through. Maybe you saw Jason's name on a file and you acted on impulse.

Sam: Maybe, I might've, but I didn't.

Alexis: Maybe you thought that if you protected Jason, that he would realize that and change his mind.

Sam: But he's not going to, okay? I begged, I pleaded; I'm done.

Alexis: Sam, you're still in love with him. It's perfectly understandable --

Sam: I -- I confided in you, and now you're using it against me by jumping to the conclusion that I would steal a police file to protect Jason. So much for your faith in your newfound daughter.

Ric: How many breakdowns has Sonny had since you've known him, Jason? Four? Five? Each one worse than the last? What'd you do to help him? Did you sweep up the glass? Did you keep your eye on the business? You covered for him and you never once pushed him to get real help or suggested that maybe he could get a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Jason: I didn't lie to him to undermine his sanity.

Ric: No, you didn't. But when he did something that you disliked by getting involved with your sister, Emily, what did you do? You promptly stole his business from him. You knew what that would do to him. You may not have intentionally pushed him into his breakdown, but you sure as hell didn't do anything to help it. You want to keep Sonny helpless so you can step back in and get your control over him. So don't sit there and preach to me, Jason, about how Ric is bad and you're good, because this couldn't have worked out better for you if you had tried it yourself.

Sonny: Wow. So, that's it, right? I'm Bipolar?

Lainey: After speaking with you in these sessions and observing your behavior, yes. I'm prepared to diagnose you as having Bipolar Disorder. You're welcome to get a second opinion, but I do feel very --

Sonny: No, I trust you.

Lainey: I know this is a lot to process.

Sonny: Well, I'm not happy about it, but part of me is relieved that there's a medical explanation for what the hell happens to me. So you going to prescribe medication or--

Lainey: Yes. I am going to put you on Lithium carbonate. We will start you on a low dosage and gradually increase it until an optimum level is reached. Your blood levels are going to have to be checked regularly because it can be harmful if you're given too much.

Sonny: Okay. For how long will I have to take this medication?

Lainey: For life, to avoid another downward spiral.

Sonny: Okay -- um -- I'm feeling, actually, better than I did, than I was feeling before, right, so can I start taking this some other -- like, later?

Lainey: If you don't take this, it's only a matter of time until you have another breakdown.

Carly: Hello? Can you stop staring at the terrace long enough to enlighten me, please?

Patrick: About what?

Carly: Why are you still so fascinated with Little Miss Perfect?

Robin: I don't know why Patrick is still interested in me. I mean, I thought for sure that once we had sex, he would move on.

Nikolas: Well, did it ever cross your mind that he might actually care about you?

Patrick: I enjoy Robin. She's a challenge. She's a brilliant physician. I like the weird combination of bookish nerd and unexpected adventure girl.

Carly: Don't tell me you like the constant lectures and the disapproval?

Patrick: That's just her protecting herself. She doesn't want anybody to get too close.

Robin: Patrick hides behind this lady's man persona -- the man that offers a good time but nothing else. It's his way of keeping people at a distance so that he, or the other person, doesn't invest too much.

Nikolas: Do you think there's substance underneath that?

Robin: I don't know. I mean, he has surprised me a few times. I've been vulnerable in front of him, and it would've been very easy for him to take advantage of that. But he didn't. He was truly supportive.

Patrick: Look, during my father's liver failure and transplant, she never gave up -- on me or him. She realized how important it was for me to have him survive and she did anything in her power to make that happen.

Carly: You've got it bad for her.

Patrick: Easy.

[Carly chuckles]

Carly: Okay, you like her -- a lot.

Patrick: There's more than just good sex in our relationship, yeah.

Carly: Then what's the problem?

Patrick: Commitment.

Robin: What's wrong with me and Patrick? In a word -- commitment.

Elizabeth: Hey, Em? Have you seen Lucky?

Emily: No. Why?

Elizabeth: Heather said she just saw him. I literally have been chasing him around all day.

Emily: Can't you call him on his cell?

Elizabeth: Oh. His cell phone? Gee, why didn't I think of that?

Emily: Sorry.

Elizabeth: No, it's -- no, I'm -- I'm sorry. I'm just so -- I'm so tired of doing this.

Emily: What -- what happened?

Elizabeth: What always happens -- Lucky walked in on Patrick being nice to me, he got mad, and he left. He didn't wait for an explanation, he never gives me the benefit of the doubt, and no these days, I'm automatically just wrong, and then Lucky leaves the building. Go ahead. You can defend him.

Emily: No. Not at all. Elizabeth, Lucky is being unfair. He should know that you would never cheat on him, with Patrick or anyone else. Honestly, I think he does know that on some level.

Elizabeth: Really? Huh. Well, you could've fooled me. I am constantly, constantly reassuring him that I love him, but it's like -- I don't know, he acts like he doesn't want to hear it.

Emily: That doesn't sound like Lucky.

Elizabeth: I know. Lately, it seems like I'm -- I'm just married to a stranger.

Emily: Oh, Elizabeth --

Elizabeth: You know, I just need to -- I need to let this all go and remember that married life isn't always easy. We'll get through this. We always do.

Alexis: You say you didn't steal the papers, Sam, and I believe you.

Sam: Really? Then why the third degree?

Alexis: It's my job to investigate. I apologize if I came on a little heavy-handed. Subtlety is not always my strongest suit.

Sam: Why would you hire me if you didn't trust me?

Alexis: Trust has to be built, Sam. I made a mistake today. It won't be the first one, and I'm sure that you will make a mistake every now and then, as well. So why don't we just agree to keep trying, okay?

Sam: Okay. I got to get back to work.

Ric: Sonny's breakdown was worse than I could've imagined. How could you let him go through that, Jason, again and again, and not do something and get him professional help, huh? What was it? Did -- was it important for you to keep him in a state of emotional instability so you can keep your hold on him? Or were you afraid you were going to lose him because you'd bring him to a doctor and he'd help him with his illness? To hell with you.

Jason: You're not leaving until Sonny tells you to go.

Ric: Get your hands off me.

Sonny: Hey! What's going on here?

Ric: Well, Jason here is going to tell you that the dress that you tore off of Emily, that you don't remember buying, was actually purchased by me. And you know what? He's right. It was.

Carly: Why are you so surprised that Robin wants you under her thumb? When she was with Jason, she told him how to live his life and wanted him to thank her for it.

Patrick: Carly, that was 10 years ago.

Carly: She is still the same controlling, self-righteous twit she ever was. She wants you all to herself.

Patrick: She never said that to me. In fact, she's claiming the opposite.

Carly: She's lying.

Patrick: I know.

Robin: Patrick is terrified of commitment. But it's kind of understandable, considering his history. His father, Noah, was also a lady's man until he fell in love with his mother. And when she died, he gave up his career and spent years as an alcoholic. I think he's afraid that if he falls in love or is in a committed relationship, that the same thing will happen to him.

Nikolas: Right. So -- so what are you thinking, exactly? That one day he's -- he's going to look at you and realize that he's open for a long-term relationship?

Robin: I hadn't really thought about it that far, but now that you mention it, I guess that is what I hope for. It's kind of a long shot, right?

Nikolas: I don't know. You tell me.

Robin: It's helpful, though.

Nikolas: Okay, if I could give you one piece of advice from what I've learned, it's that people aren't psychic, Robin. If you love someone, then you have to tell them how you feel.

Robin: Whoa, who said I loved him?

Nikolas: If you just care about him, even a little, you have to be honest about your hopes and expectations, and then that leaves the door open for him to be honest with you.

Robin: So I have to tell him that I want a relationship with him?

Nikolas: If that's how you feel.

Robin: What if he says it'll never happen?

Nikolas: Well, wouldn't you rather know that now than have your hopes dashed months from now when you're even more deeply attached to him?

Robin: Good point. Great advice.

Nikolas: What are friends for, huh?

Robin: You know, you really are a very wise and insightful man.

Nikolas: I learned my lessons the hard way.

Robin: I should talk to Patrick.

Nikolas: Yeah. No problem. I'll -- I'll take care of Carly.

Robin: Huh.

Robin: They're gone.

Alexis: Hi, Elizabeth. I'm here to interview an assault patient, a James Geissler?

Elizabeth: He's in room 614.

Alexis: Okay. Listen, will you have Lucky call me? Uh -- I need to speak to him --

Elizabeth: Well, he should still be at work.

Alexis: Oh. Well, he's out in the field. I need to have a private conversation, but thanks anyway.

Elizabeth: Is he -- is everything okay?

Alexis: Yes, everything is fine. It's just -- it's a missing file from the PCPD. I just want to question some of the personnel.

Elizabeth: Well, Lucky doesn't have it. He would never do something like that.

Alexis: I know that. I just want to question him because he was there when it happened, so I was wondering if maybe he saw something. That's all.

Ric: I started realizing that something was off about a month ago, when you were doing all those renovations. I did some research online and I talked to a psychiatrist. I was -- I was pretty sure that you were Bipolar, but I knew that you weren't going to get help as long as Jason and Carly kept covering for you.

Sonny: Why didn't you tell me back then?

Ric: Come on, Sonny. Really, would you have believed me? I wanted to break the cycle, okay? I was worried that the breakdowns would keep coming with increasing severity. I knew, I believed in my heart that you needed to crash. And I knew you wouldn't get help unless you -- unless you hit rock bottom and you had no place left to go.

Sonny: So you pushed me to the edge?

Ric: Yeah. So maybe I was wrong, but you and I both know, Sonny, that you were already in a free-fall. I wanted to be there for you and help you through the breakdown and the recovery. I was not acting out of malice. I genuinely was trying to help you, and look -- it worked. You're getting treatment. I hated every minute of what I did to you, and I admit I lied. But it was worth it if you wind up getting help --

Jason: "Worth it"? What Ric essentially did was handed you a loaded gun, told you to put it to your head, and pulled the trigger, and then claimed he was trying to help you.

Nikolas: Thank you for an interesting evening.

Robin: I'm sorry. I know it's probably really boring rambling on about Patrick.

Nikolas: No, feel free to bore me anytime you want.

Robin: Well, watch out. I might take you up on that.

Nikolas: Okay. And for what it's worth, I hope that Patrick realizes how fortunate he is to have you.

Robin: Thank you.

Nikolas: I'll see you.

Robin: Okay. Bye.

Nikolas: Bye.

Emily: Nikolas -- hi.

Nikolas: Hi.

Emily: I thought your dinner with Robin was going to go on later than this.

[Emily laughs]

Nikolas: Okay, if you're once again hinting at a romance, I'll have you know that we spent the entire evening talking about Patrick Drake.

Emily: Oh, isn't that a coincidence? Patrick interrogated me about your friendship with Robin. Whatever's going on, it's more than casual for him.

Nikolas: Well, good, because Robin's clearly in love with him.

Emily: What advice did you give her?

Nikolas: I just -- I told her to be honest about her feelings, that you can't just assume that the other person knows how you feel, that's all.

Emily: Yeah. So she's going to tell Patrick how she feels?

Nikolas: That's the plan, but I think Robin cares far more about him than she realizes.

Emily: Yeah, Patrick's definitely in denial.

Nikolas: Yeah, well, they're both too proud and defensive to admit their own feelings to themselves, much less to each other.

Emily: Yeah. I -- I hope they work things out.

Nikolas: I do, too. There's nothing more sad than finding love, and then realizing too late you threw it all away.

Carly: So are you waiting for Robin to come in here breathing fire like she did the last time she found us here?

Patrick: Part of me hopes she does.

Carly: What about the other part?

Patrick: Knows that Robin and I have no future.

Carly: Hmm. Well, the second part, the wiser part -- that's called self-preservation.

Patrick: Look, I know you said Robin is only looking for an exclusive relationship, and you're right. She can deny it till she's blue in the face, but that's exactly what she's looking for.

Carly: Can I play devil's advocate?

Patrick: Why do you ask? You're going to anyway.

[Carly chuckles]

Carly: Yes. We spent the whole night talking about Robin -- how much you like her, how much you admire her, how she helped you with your dad. You guys have more of a relationship than just sex, and now you want to put on the brakes because you can't commit. Now, do you see the subtext here?

Patrick: Yes. The rest of the night is about us.

Carly: One more thought about Little Miss Perfect.

Patrick: As long as it's the last.

Carly: You need to think about this. Declaring your independence is one thing; turning to me is another. Robin hates me with every bone in her body. You sleep with me, and you're probably going to lose her.

Patrick: It's occurred to me.

Carly: I think it'll be great and I think you're fabulous, and I don't think you should have Robin in your life, but you may not agree.

Patrick: You want to use me as a cure for Sonny. I need to use you as a cure for Robin.

Carly: My pleasure.

Jason: Ric is always bringing up the fact that he's your brother, like that's supposed to justify any hell he puts you through. He kidnapped your wife, and now he deliberately tried to push you into a nervous breakdown.

Ric: No, I meant what I said. I thought it was the only way you would agree to get help, Sonny.

Jason: Ric never mentioned therapy to you, but now that Emily has talked you into therapy and treatment, of course Ric's jumping onboard as an excuse for what he did.

Ric: That's not true!

Jason: You're trying to cover your ass. That's what he does, that's who he is. Your whole existence is about being better than Sonny.

Ric: No, you're the one who wants to control Sonny. Look, Sonny, think about it -- what has this man ever done for you, except enable you? Make your illness worse so that he could amass power, and then you become more increasingly dependent upon him?

Sonny: I'm sorry. I am very sorry, Ric. I should've faced the truth a long time ago. First of all, Jason's never tried to control me. When he took my business, he did it openly, even if I believed he was wrong. He -- he told me what he was going to do and why, and he did it. Jason doesn't manipulate people.

Ric: That's exactly what he did, Sonny, when he -- when he tried to force you to give up Emily. That's called emotional blackmail. It's not hard to --

Sonny: I don't want to hear it anymore. You worked me, now you're justifying it. Maybe you just can't help yourself, Ric. You've been -- you've been in this twisted competition with me for a long time. I'm not going to engage. I can't. I'm tired. I can't have you in my life. I want you out of my house.

Ric: Sonny, you need to think about this, okay? I did nothing to take advantage of you. I just tried to push you into getting more --

Sonny: Ric, you need to go. It's best for both of us.

Emily: Hey, is everything all right?

Sonny: Ric admitted to buying the dress -- and lying about it.

Emily: Oh, God. Sonny, I'm sorry. I know that you were starting to trust Ric. I was, too.

Sonny: He made up some big excuse about how he wanted to break me down so I would need professional help.

Emily: Hmm.

Sonny: And that Carly and Jason were enabling me all these years, and that he -- I guess he wanted to save me.

Emily: Do you believe him?

Sonny: Well, you know, it's typical Ric. I mean, he justifies everything in hindsight.

Emily: Maybe he really believes that he was -- he was acting in your best interest.

Sonny: Hey, I don't care. I don't care what he believes. I don't care what he intended. All I know is that when he was talking to me, all I could think about was me tearing that dress off you, and the look on your face and how scared you were. Ric made me do that, and now I can't take -- I can't take it back.

[Music plays]

Patrick: We keep finding ourselves at Jake's --

Carly: Poised and on the brink --

Patrick: Ready to take the leap -- unless, of course, one of us backs out again.

Carly: Wow. You having second thoughts?

Patrick: I was talking about you.

Carly: Hmm. I'm just thinking about the night ahead.

Patrick: You've backed out before.

Carly: That's not going to happen. Jax himself could walk in the door right now -- it won't change a thing. Tonight, I am all yours.

Patrick: Mm-hmm.

Carly: One second. Hey. What are you doing here?

Jason: Just came to have a beer.

Carly: I'll join you. I'm sorry. I am, but there's -- uh -- there's been a change of plans.

Patrick: I'm not surprised.

Carly: Sweet of you to worry about me being here with Patrick, but you know what? I'm going to be okay, I'm not going to get hurt.

Jason: I didn't know that you were here. I really did come just to have a beer.

Carly: Really? That's funny, because you could've walked into your kitchen, opened the fridge, and had a beer. You just can't stand the thought of going home alone to your empty penthouse. That's how much you miss Sam.

Ric: Hello? Who is this? No, I'm sorry, you're breaking up. I can't -- hello?

Sam: Wow.

Ric: Sorry. I didn't -- I didn't know anybody was there.

Sam: No, you know, that's -- that's not that bad. You should've seen the garbage can I just assaulted.

Ric: Yeah? What happened to you?

Sam: Why don't you go first?

Ric: Huh. Well, let's see -- I -- I discovered that -- that Sonny was having a breakdown, and I knew the only way that he would get help is if he hit rock bottom, so I made the breakdown worse.

Sam: How?

Ric: I gaslit him. I made him believe that he had done something when he hadn't. Not to hurt Sonny, but to force him into treatment, and you know what? It worked, because he was -- he's getting therapy with Lainey now.

Sam: Good. That's good. So what are you so angry about?

Ric: Jason. Jason just couldn't leave well enough alone, you know? He had to drive a wedge right between me and Sonny and use my deception.

Sam: Ric, what you did sounds pretty bad.

Ric: You don't think I know that? What, do you think I enjoyed watching my brother suffer, knowing all the time that I was adding to his pain? It made me sick inside. Although, I ought to keep asking myself, you know, "What if this were me?" I mean, because there's an apparent genetic link with Bipolar Disorder, and I kept -- I kept asking myself, saying, "What if I were Sonny? What would I want from the people closest to me?" And I honestly believe in my heart I would want them to force me to get help. I mean, anything would be better than watching him go into that -- that darkness over and over again and not being able to pull himself out.

Sam: Even if the people you trusted tricked you?

Ric: I've been over my -- my motives again and again, and I keep coming back to the same thing, Sam. I honestly believed that I was acting in Sonny's best interest. I don't know what -- it was tough love? Forcing him to face it instead of enabling him like Jason's done for so many years.

Sam: I'm not surprised Jason doesn't see it that way.

Ric: Huh. Yeah, well, I think Sonny was starting to understand. Except Jason stepped in and he threw down ultimatums, and now Sonny's shut me out.

Sam: Look I'm sorry, but I think that maybe you should see it from Jason's point of view, okay? You and Jason obviously don't get along. You have hurt Sonny in some way. I don't think Jason cares about your motives. He just doesn't want you to hurt Sonny again.

Ric: How can you keep defending Jason after the way he broke up with you?

Patrick: You're ridiculous.

Robin: What are you talking about?

Patrick: You denying you sent Jason to Jake's to break up me and Carly?

Robin: You really can't be that --

Patrick: Just answer the question.

Robin: No, I didn't. I haven't seen Jason all night, and I would not send him to Jake's. I would not resort to childish behavior like that.

Patrick: Like throwing Nikolas in my face the way you did?

Robin: Nikolas is an old friend of mine, and I had no idea that you were going to be at the Metro Court. You're the one that's acting like you're in junior high -- going out with Carly to try and make me jealous.

Patrick: Wasn't my intention, but, obviously, it worked.

Robin: Admit it -- this whole thing is phony. You don't even like Carly.

Patrick: On the contrary, I like Carly very much. We have a lot in common, including a very healthy appetite for no-strings, good old-fashioned sex.

Robin: I hate to burst your bubble, but Carly will never sleep with you.

Patrick: We'll see.

Robin: Carly is ignorant and prejudiced. Regardless of the literature and statistics and the precautions that you and I took having sex, the fact remains that I am HIV positive, and Carly will never be with you after you've been with me.

Elizabeth: Jason, it's Elizabeth. Call me as soon as you get this. I have something I need to discuss with you.

Emily: I was frightened when you tore the dress off my body. I -- I didn't think that you'd hurt me. I was afraid for you.

Sonny: Yeah, but you saw me fly into rages, you saw me break things and, you know, talking to you like you were my dead wife, Lily. And, you know, I -- you were there when I knocked you down --

Emily: Yeah.

Sonny: By the car, right?

Emily: It was heartbreaking to watch you suffer, Sonny, but I'm glad that I was with you. And -- and it all turned out for the best because now you're getting treatment.

Sonny: Lainey diagnosed me today. She says I have Bipolar Disorder.

Emily: Oh, Sonny -- listen, being diagnosed is a first step toward getting better. You know that, right?

Sonny: Well, yeah, well, she says I got to take medications to stop my mood swings.

Emily: Mm-hmm.

Sonny: They don't know the exact -- actually, the pills are right here.

Emily: Yeah?

Sonny: They don't know the exact dosage, but they're going to try to monitor it very closely, and she says I'm going to have to take medication for the rest of my life.

Emily: Isn't it worth it?

Sonny: I don't know how it's going to affect me or how I'm going to feel. I don't want to go through another breakdown. But I don't want to stop being myself, either.

Sam: Jason broke up with me to protect me. I don't agree, obviously. But I don't doubt his motives.

Ric: Yeah, well, maybe you should. Because if Jason were willing to give his business back to Sonny -- or maybe give it up altogether -- then maybe he could be with you.

Sam: Oh.

Ric: He made his priorities very clear, as far as I can see.

Sam: Whatever you do, please don't say I'm better off without Jason, because I've heard it enough, okay?

Ric: Oh, from Alexis?

Sam: From Alexis. And even when she's not saying it, it rolls off of her in waves. It's like she can't wait for the moment for me to say, "I'm over Jason." I got to plaster it.

Ric: Sam, Alexis' intentions are good, even if she's less than tactful about expressing them.

Sam: I know, and I'm just supposed to be thankful that I have Alexis to run my life. And even when she's being completely unfair and accuses me of something I didn't do, I'm just supposed to be pleasant and suck it up. Because if I get angry, I'm the one who's wrong.

Ric: I take it you had a stressful first day?

Sam: Yeah. No kidding, any argument with Alexis is a no-win situation. I'm just -- I'm always the bad guy.

Ric: It's just who Alexis is. You know, she can't admit when she's wrong.

Sam: I know, and she makes me crazy because even when she says she's sorry, I know she's just patronizing me.

Ric: She's trying, Sam, in her own way, okay? You just got to accept Alexis for who she is.

Sam: Really? Any tips on how I'm supposed to do that?

Ric: Stop trying to live up to Alexis' standards. Just do what you want.

Sam: Oh.

Carly: So you're spending your evenings avoiding the penthouse. There's a simple solution for that.

Jason: Do you need another beer?

Carly: Admit that you miss her and ask her to come back.

Jason: I -- I don't want to talk about it.

Carly: Fine. What's going on with Sonny? Did you tell him about the stunt Ric pulled with the dress?

Jason: Mm-hmm. And he told Ric to leave.

Carly: Whoa. Well, let's hope Ric stays gone.

Jason: Well, you know Ric's always going to push the brother connection, but I think Sonny's thinking pretty clearly right now. He knows not to trust him.

Carly: That's great. So it's -- it's probably safe for me to stay away now. I was really feeling myself pulled back into his life, and that can't happen. That's where Patrick Drake comes in -- I needed a diversion.

Jason: How's that working for you?

Carly: Oh, pretty good.

Jason: Yeah?

Carly: Sort of.

Jason: Okay. Well, just don't, you know, set yourself up to get hurt again.

Carly: I'm not. You know, I'm -- I think I'm doing okay. I -- making some healthy choices -- like Jax.

Jason: The guy you used to hate.

Carly: I changed my mind, okay? Jax is great. He was wonderful and he made me feel good about myself -- right up until the minute he walked out the door without a backwards glance.

[Music plays]

Carly: I have no idea if or when he's coming back, so I can't wait for Jax, and I refuse to go back to Sonny, so --

Jason: When you got out of Rose Lawn, you said you didn't need a man in your life.

Carly: I don't need a man.

Jason: You remember that?

Carly: Uh -- Sonny is like a magnet for me, okay? Our kids and everything going on in our lives are tied up together, and if I'm going to stay away from him, I have to focus my energy elsewhere. That's all I'm saying.

Jason: Work. You got work, you got kids.

Carly: Yes, I do, and -- and they're wonderful, but that's different, okay? If you want me to stay away from Patrick, then I'm going to have to be with you.

>> On the next "General Hospital" --

Sam: We can't just stand here all night.

Ric: So what do we do about it?

Carly: He's going to therapy. Maybe it'll work.

Jason: But then it would've worked years ago.

Emily: Take it. You need the medication.

Sonny: I'm not ready. So what would you do if you were in my position?
