sonny: Sam came up with a solution to everyone's problems. We're going to stage an intervention.
Sonny: Jason. I mean, well, you know -- hey, as you know, basically, he dug himself in a hole he can't get out of. So you, me, sam --
emily: No way! Sonny, you can't go anywhere near jason when you're like this.
Sonny: Like what?
Emily: Sonny, you're not acting normally.
Elizabeth: You're wrong. Lucky can't possibly have been on anything during that stakeout. He would never do something like that.
Lucky: You're monitoring my behavior now?
Patrick: Just pointing out the obvious -- you're here to check up on elizabeth again. What's it going to take for you to trust your wife and realize there's nothing going on between us?
Lucky: I actually came here to apologize. I do trust my wife. I was wrong about a lot of things, and I'm sorry if I accused you.
Robin: No, carly is the one who's lying. I'm sure of it.
Carly: Robin, get a life, would you, please?
Jax: It's ok. This is all wrong. I'm sorry that you have to witness this, but it's time the truth came out.
Carly: Don't do this, jax.
Jax: It's ok. Robin's right.
Jax: I'm not john's father. You are.
Nikolas: Just -- just let me understand this for -- for one minute. You fixed a paternity test, claimed to be john's father, and then lied about all of it? You kept my son away from me?
Jax: You know why I did this, right?
Nikolas: No, no.
Jax: I wanted to keep john safe from your murdering grandmother. And I originally did this to keep courtney safe.
Nikolas: Did courtney know that -- that I was the father?
Jax: When the baby was born, she wanted to name him john after my father. I felt she deserved to know the truth, so I told her.
Nikolas: Yeah, and what was her reaction?
Jax: She was angry, but she also let me explain my reasons. And she forgave me. She said that we all did the wrong thing sometimes for the right reasons.
Nikolas: Just -- so -- so she wasn't going to tell me she was going to keep up the lie like everybody else?
Jax: No, she wanted to tell you the truth.
Nikolas: Yeah. The last time I saw courtney, she told me she loved me. She was -- she was struggling to say something else, but unfortunately she died before she could get the words out. Obviously, she was trying to tell me that the child was ours. You ignored courtney's last wish for her child and kept up a lie.
Jax: I'm really sorry it turned out this way. I didn't have time to discuss it with her, so I made the -- the best call I thought at the time. For the safety of john.
Nikolas: To what? To what? It certainly worked out for you, didn't it, jax? You -- you could've kept silent, and I would've never known that john was my son. So you tell me why you're telling me the truth now.
Lucky: Elizabeth and I were under a lot of stress. I was recovering, and I wasn't exactly a model patient, as you probably noticed. I -- I was worried about a lot of things while I was laid up. I felt useless. I was worried about my back, my job, money. Elizabeth -- she just tried to handle everything without me, and, anyhow, I misinterpreted a lot of stuff.
Patrick: Apology accepted.
Lucky: I still think you're scum. But I know ezabeth wouldn't cheat on me.
Patrick: Well, nice to know you're back to your old way.
Lucky: See you around.
Patrick: Hey -- uh -- congratulations, you and your partner, on that illegal gun dealer.
Patrick: Well, whoever was in the alley with you.
Elizabeth: Lucky's completely professional about his job.
Jason: It was just my impression. Something seemed a little off.
Elizabeth: Well, he did say that he was afraid he'd gotten rusty. That's why he's been spending so much time at the shooti rage. I'm not surprised he didn't shoot as well as he normally does.
Jason: Yeah, but he wasn't following procedure at all.
Elizabeth: Well, he'd been out on a stakeout all night. I'm sure his back was hurting and -- and he was probably exhausted.
Jason: You're right, it's -- it's possible.
Elizabeth: Oh. I've been making excuses like I've been doing all along. The truth is lucky's been taking some real serious pain medication. He wouldn't be the first person who -- tell me everything you saw in that alley, everything that made you think lucky could be on drugs.
Lainey: So what makes you think you could be suffering from bipolar disorder?
Ric: Well, it -- uh -- it started in college.
Lainey: Can you be more specific?
Ric: Well, I get this feeling -- um -- a kind of euphoria. I mean, I get a lot of energy, I'm -- I'm impulsive.
Lainey: For example?
Ric: Well, I make extravagant purchase you know? I buy things suddenly that I feel I can't do without.
Lainey: Do you ever feel angry?
Ric: Well, yeah, I fly off at the slightest provocation. I mean, for instance, the other day I -- I practically attacked a contractor who's working on our house.
Lainey: Is this construction project something that's important to you?
Ric: No, I'm just -- I feel like I'm obsessing over it, you know, and fussing over every little detail. One minute everything seems to be going very well, but the next I think it's going to be a complete and total disaster. I feel like I'm -- I'm not in balance, like I'm swinging from one extreme to the other.
Lainey: What do you know about bipolar disorder?
Ric: Not much. I mean -- well, I read about some of it online. I felt those extreme highs. And then when you crash, you feel like you don't know where you are, you can't move or think. I just -- I don't want it to happen again, dr. Winters, and I -- I was hoping that maybe you can give me some advice on how to manage it.
Lainey: So when are you going to tell me what this is really about?
Emily: You've tried to explain your behavior, but it doesn't ring true.
Sonny: Ok, I admit -- I'm -- you know, I'm moody and I get depressed. I don't know what you want me to say.
Emily: It's more than that. Sonny, your mood swings are extreme -- one minute you're happy, the next minute you're raging. Sometimes you don't even remember what you said or what you did. You know you're like this, don't you? I mean, you've been like this before.
Sonny: I'm -- I'm having a hard time right now, ok? But I'm -- I'm going to be ok because I'm with you.
Emily: You are. Sonny, you are. But this is exactly what jason warned me about.
Sonny: Jason was trying to scare you.
Emily: Yes, because of this. This is the reason he didn't want us together.
Sonny: No, no, because he was -- he was trying to break us up because he -- he felt that my lifestyle was dangerous. That's why he stole the business from me.
Emily: Jason's real fear is what he calls your dark side. He's afraid that you're going to hurt me and that I'm not going to be able to handle it.
Sonny: He's being an overprotective brother. That's what he does with you.
Emily: Sonny, if he sees that you're this volatile -- listen to me -- what do you think he's going to do?
Sonny: I would never hurt you. If I lost it, jason would help me like he always does. But he would also make sure that you and i could never be together again.
Lainey: The symptoms you've described are the same as your brother's, and there's evidence that bipolar disorder can run in families.
Ric: Oh, there's a genetic link?
Lainey: I gather sonny has exhibited similar symptoms, although I've never witnessed any of them. Well, you're concerned that you may have the same disorder as your brother. That's why you're here, right?
Ric: Yeah. Um -- is there a way to tell for sure? Is there a blood test or something?
Lainey: Unfortunately, no. The only way to identify bipolar disorder is to work up a complete medical history and do psical and psychological examinations.
Ric: What can I do to manage it?
Lainey: Avoid the obvious triggers -- drugs and alcohol, steer clear of anything that makes you tense or conflicted or overly emotional.
Emily: Are you here to visit someone?
Ric: Yeah, as a matter of fact. Dr. Winters, actually. She's -- uh -- she's going to be helping me with a consult for a case that I'm working on. Thanks a lot.
Emily: I think sonny's getting worse.
Jason: When I got to the alley, lucky was -- you know, he was firing wildly in the direction of the gun dealer. He had a -- he had a clear shot, but he was having trouble reloading his weapon.
Elizabeth: That doesn't sound like him at all.
Jason: Yeah, and I -- I didn't know what was going on. I wasn't sure. I thought he could be hurt, so I fired and I took the guy down.
Lucky: What makes you think I had a partner?
Patrick: Well, don't cops always work in pairs?
Lucky: I worked alone on this bust.
Patrick: That's a lot of responsibility for someone coming off of an injury.
Lucky: You don't think I can handle it?
Patrick: No, I didn't say that. I took the bullet out of the guy's leg. Perfectly placed -- one shot right to the leg, just enough to immobilize the guy but not to seriously injure him.
Lucky: Yeah, well, that's what I was trained to do. I saw that I had a clear opening and I dropped him.
Patrick: From what I understand, it's tough to be accurate with a .45 from that distance.
Lucky: A .45? Well, I use a 9 millimeter.
Patrick: Hey, what do I know about guns?
Lucky: Yeah. You know your job, and I know mine.
Elizabeth: He didn't realize you're the one who -- who took the shot?
Jason: Well, his shot came a moment later. He probably thought he took the guy out himself.
Elizabeth: And he had no clue you were there?
Jason: Well, I -- I made a noise when I was leaving, and lucky took a shot at me.
Elizabeth: Oh -- oh, thank god he missed you.
Jason: Elizabeth, it wasn't even close. Now, it's possible that lucky -- you know, he could've panicked. It was just my impression that he was unfocused and very sloppy.
Elizabeth: Like he was on drugs.
Kristina: Can you play with me?
Sam: Oh. Not now, sweetie. I have a doctor's appointment. I have to -- I have go for a checkup. But as soon as I get back -- huh? Yeah? -- Maybe we could jump in the lake.
Ugh. All right. I'll be back.
Kristina: What are you doing here?
Manny: Oh, I was just taking a little walk, you know, and I saw you. Oh, wow -- appaloosa. She's my favorite. You probably don't remember me, huh? We met once outside of kelly's -- you dropped your dolly and I gave it back to you.
Kristina: Oh, missy?
Manny: That's right. A lot has changed since then, huh? You have a new house, a new sister who's all grown up. It must be fun to have a big sister to talk to and share a room with, huh?
Kristina: Sam lives in the backroom right next to the garage.
Carly: Jax told the truth because he's an honorable man, and he wanted to do what's best for john.
Nikolas: "Honorable"? What -- what's honorable about stealing another man's child? Tell me.
Carly: Jax loves john! And he wanted to keep that little boy safe and happy and give him the life that courtney wanted him to have.
Nikolas: Courtney wanted me to know the truth.
Jax: Courtney wasn't considering the danger. The threat to john is real. You do realize this?
Nikolas: But it's -- it's up to me, jax, to protect my son, not you
jax: Yeah, yeah, you're right. Regardless of how I think john should be raised, the fact remains you're his father, I'm not.
Nikolas: Oh, that -- that's very, very generous of you, jax. Thank you.
Carly: Jax did this out of love, nikolas.
Nikolas: "Out of love"? The only reason he confessed is because robin busted him.
Carly: And you didn't believe her! You didn't believe her! You were convinced that maxie forged the paternity test and you didn't want him to have another. Jax could've gotten away with it.
Nikolas: It doesn't matter. She wouldn't have given up. The truth would've come out sooner or later and you know it!
Carly: Jax is not crazy. He was trying to protect john.
Nikolas: Yeah, like you both keep telling me over and over again.
Carly: No, this has tortured him, and he has struggled with this decision from day one.
Nikolas: And from day one, he's kept a child that belongs to me.
Carly: Jax was thinking about john, not himself, and no one could love a child more than he loves john.
Nikolas: What about you, carly? You're supposed to be courtney's best friend. How long have you been lying to me about john? Song: "Hot dog, life is tasting pretty good"
Nikolas: My son was lying in an incubator fighting for his life. Every breath he took could've been his last. You knew that, and you said nothing.
Jax: Carly didn't find out till months later.
Nikolas: I -- I don't care.
Jax: I asked her to keep quiet. I told her it would be best for everyone. She did this for me.
Robin: Jax, why do you continue to stick up for her?
Jax: Because it's the truth.
Robin: Why can you not see her for the woman that she is?
Carly: You rip john's life apart, and now you want to dictate how we deal with it?
Robin: Jax, I have known you for years. You're a good guy, you're a decent man, and you would do the right thing.
She would not.
Jax: It was my decision to lie.
Robin: Maybe before the baby was born. But afr that, she kept on you to keep the secret, didn't she? She wanted so much to be a mother to john, to help raise him, to be a part of his life, and she knew the only way to do that was if you kept the baby. If nikolas found out he was the father, carly would be lucky to even see the baby.
Carly: You know what, robin? Unlike you, I put john's needs first. I wanted him surrounded by love and security, not raised by a pack of lunatics. But because you couldn't keep your mouth shut, a little baby is going to be ripped out of the only home that he has ever known. But as long as you get the satisfaction of telling your almighty truth, huh?
Robin: I rest my case. You made up the first lie, carly kept it going.
Jax: You're wrong. The blame is mine and mine alone.
Elizabeth: Lucky's fought the changes in his pain medication every step of the way. He didn't want to be taken off the morphine drip. And then he was upset when they took him from morphine pills to the hydrocodone. And he's been pushing himself so hard in physical therapy to the point where I think he mig hurt himself even worse.
Jason: Did he take more pills for the pain?
Elizabeth: Yeah, he went through that first prescription so fast, but I didn't think anything of it because I knew patrick wouldn't refill it until it was time. Then he magically found some other pills and he said it was from an old prescription, one that he hadn't finisD. What if he's lying to me? What if he got them from someone else?
[Knock on door]
Richie: It's officer spencer.
Elizabeth: Oh --
lucky: We need to talk.
Patrick: You're healing nicely.
Sam: Is there anything I should be careful about doing?
Patrick: At this point, nothing. You're a fortunate woman, sam. I'd like to take credit for your outcome, but truth is jason deserves his share.
Sam: What are you talking about?
Patrick: No one told you?
Sam: No. Tell me.
Patrick: Alexis tried to block your surgery. She got a court order forbidding anyone to operate on you. If jason hadn't been willing to go around it and arrange for me to operate, you would've died.
Emily: Sonny was working you at lunch, lainey. He realized that I asked you over because I wanted you to evaluate him, so after I left, he turned on the charm.
Lainey: I'm not an easy woman to fool.
Emily: No, sonny's good at this, lainey. He doesn't want to face the fact that -- that something's wrong, but he's still becoming more erratic. He's having these huge mood swings, and he slipped a few times and he -- he called me lily.
Lainey: Lily? Who's lily?
Emily: Sonny's first wife. She died right in front of him. She was killed by a car bomb that was meant for sonny, and lily was pregnant. And out of nowhere, sonny asked me if I should be drinking in my condition.
Lainey: As if you were pregnant.
Emily: Yeah. He covered by saying that I'd been acting moody lately, and he had it in the back of his mind that I might be pregnant.
Lainey: Trying to explain his behavior to himself as well as tyou.
Emily: Yeah. It's also the way he sees things. His judgment is off. He got so excited about doing an intervention for jason. He wanted me and sam to confront jason with him. He thought that we could make jason see that he's been making very bad decisions.
Lainey: What do you think of that idea?
Emily: Jason would never respond to something like that. I mean, the three of us facing him, pressuring him to do things differently? Jason would completely shut down, and sonny knows that -- or at least he should.
Lainey: And so under normal circumstances, sonny would never suggest that?
Emily: Exactly, lainey. He's not himself, and he's only getting worse. What should I do? Where should I go from here?
Lainey: Based on what you're telling me, I think that you need to get sonny into treatment right away.
Ric: We need to talk.
Sonny: I ain't talking about the warehouse, ric.
Ric: I'm not going to ignore the fact that you went off on me. I mean, after all, you did say that you were going to kill me if I ever tried to drag u back into your old business again.
Sonny: Then you know better than to raise that subject.
Ric: I don't think it's that simple.
Sonny: Ok, yeah, it is. Because I'm telling you right now I want to make something very clear. I'm not going to -- I'm not going to, you know, take back the territory or undermine jason.
Ric: Sonny, this goes way beyond business. It's personal. Now, you and I have a lot of issues that are left unresolved.
Sonny: Maybe you do.
Ric: You're not over what happened to our moer any more than I am. Consciously or subconsciously, you're still bothered by the fact that she led such an unhappy life.
Sonny: What's the point?
Ric: The point is, sonny, I think that we -- we need to deal with this right now, ok? No matter how painful it is, I'm just -- I'm not leaving until we get it done.
Sonny: Oh, you're -- you're upset because our mother gave you up and kept me. There's no changing that, ric.
Ric: Tell me how she died.
Sonny: You know.
Ric: No. I know dates and I know facts. I don't know how it happened, you do. Tell me.
Sonny: I don't want to.
Nikolas: So am I supposed to be impressed by your -- your nobility now because you've admitted that I'm john's father? All -- all is forgiven now?
Jax: No, I don't expect forgiveness from you. But maybe in time, you'll understand, though.
Nikolas: Do you -- do you have any idea what this has done to me? You kept my son away, away from me for the first months of his life. That time is gone, jax, I can't get that back.
Carly: Jax was just trying to protect john. He had good intentions, nikolas.
Nikolas: So you're telling me with a straight face that jax had good intentions when he -- when he filed a restraining order keeping me away from my own son? Is that -- is that what you're telling me? Did -- did you even, like, wrestle with that at all? Did you have even a slight attack of conscience, because I had to grovel. I had to grovel just to be in the same room with my son. And you acted like it was some magnanimous act on -- on your part just to -- just to let me hold him. My son.
Alexis: All right. I think let's all take a minut here and just try to process this, ok?
Mike: Look, the last thing that courtney woulwant is anger and bitterness, ok?
Nikolas: Oh, so -- so all is -- is forgiven? All the lies are washed away?
Alexis: Not at all.
Nikolas: Courtney wouldn't want me to be angry right now?
Carly: You can't change what happened, nikolas.
Nikolas: All right, will you just -- just save that part of it right now, huh? Save the rationalizations, carly?
Alexis: Listen to me. This is a shock. What they did was wrong. You have every right to be angry -- I'm angry.
Nikolas: No, I --
alexis: I just want you to take a minute, just take a deep breath, and let's just think for a minute what's best for john.
Nikolas: No, no, I claim my son tonight.
Carly: Are you happy now?
Alexis: You can't just -- just go over there right now --
nikolas: Yes, I can.
Alexis: And take john --
nikolas: I will. I can and I will.
Alexis: You don't have what you need in your home to take care of a baby. You don't know what the baby eats, you don't know when he eats, you don't have a crib, you don't have a diaper.
Nikolas: You can help me. You can help me with that --
alexis: I'll help you, honey. I will help you. I'll do anything that you want, anything. I just want you to take a minute and just process this. We'll arrange for help. Just -- just a day, maybe two, before you bring john home, ok?
Nikolas: You'll be hearing from me.
Jax: I'm sure.
Nikolas: Robin? Wait a second.
Patrick: I explained to jason that you would die without the surgery. He said he would take responsibility for ignoring the injunction. The surgery I performed along with elizabeth spencer was technically illegal. Alexis had us all arrested.
Patrick: Yep -- elizabeth, me, epiphany johnson, and jason.
Patrick: And this was after she knew the surgery was a success, so she knew you were going to live.
Sam: Ok. Then why?
Patrick: I don't know. Maybe to prove to jason that she was making decisions for you, not him.
Ric: You never told me about our mother's later years.
Sonny: What's the point, ric?
Ric: Come on, sonny, it's got to weigh on you, doesn't it?
Sonny: I don't want to get into this right now.
Ric: She was my mother, too. I was her son, sonny. What was it that broke our mother's health? Were the beatings as bad as you say?
Sonny: I don't want to talk about this right --
ric: What is it, sonny? Was she too scared to speak up?
Sonny: I don't want to talk about it!
Ric: What about you, sonny? Did you watch deke hit her?
[Echoes] Huh? Did you watch deke hit our mother? Did you watch -- did you watch the beatings?
Sonny: What are you talking about?
Ric: If it was that bad, why didn't you save her?
Sonny: Shut up!
I was just getting
to the good part...
nikolas: Thank you for telling me that john is my son.
Robin: I'm just so sorry I had to wait so long to tell you.
Nikolas: No. No, jax is a good friend of yours. I'm sure it wasn't easy for you.
Robin: Look, I know that you are furious with jax and you have every right to be. But I do believe that he was acting out of love and concern. Clearly he was misguided --
Robin: But all jax wanted was to protect john. Now, carly, on the other hand, is a completely different story. How she managed to pull jax in, I will never understand. But the bottom line is carly convinced jax to keep that secret.
Nikolas: Yeah. Robin, if you're asking me to attempt to understand jax's motives, it's going to be difficult.
Robin: I know it's going to take a while.
Nikolas: "A while"? If ever.
Robin: Well, you don't mind if I continue and try and smooth the waters, do you?
Nikolas: Oh, no. No, not at all, go ahead. I am so grateful to you. If you hadn't told the truth, I might never have had the chance to raise my own son. Thank you.
Carly: You guys helping leticia?
Michael: Yeah, we got him out of his christening dress, and -- yeah, he's strong. He wiggled a lot. Um -- oh, when are we going to go to the party?
Jax: There's not going to be a party.
Michael: Why not?
Carly: I'll explain that later. But right now, you guys need to go home with leticia. It's time to leave, so say goodbye to little john.
Michael: Bye, john.
Jane: I will put the baby to bed. Grandson or not, I love that little boy.
Jax: Mom? I want to kiss him good night.
Jax: Sleep tight, my little boy. You truly are wonderful. You'll always be in my heart.
Lucky: I know you hate the idea of admitting you need help, especially from me, but we're on the same side of this. So why don't you just tell me what you know about this person and I'll bring him to justice.
Jason: Don't know anything -- about the gun dealer or the rifle.
Lucky: Yeah, maybe you don't, or maybe you're just stonewalling. Either way, I'm going to nail whoever shot sam. It's the least I can do since you saved elizabeth from manny ruiz. Hey, jason? Don't get any ideas. Don't try to go after this guy on your own.
[Door opens and closes]
Jason: Why'd you hide?
Ric: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to pressure you.
Sonny: I don't want to talk about it!
Ric: I just -- I just thought it was a way for us to heal old wounds, sonny. You know, maybe -- maybe get closer, understand each other a little better. I can't imagine what it was like to have a stepfather like deke, sonny. I mean, he was supsed to be e man of the house, the one you looked up to, the role model, and he was a wife-beater. God only knows how that made you feel. Do you ever worry about it?
Sonny: About what?
Ric: [Echoes] That you might hit a woman the way deke did our mother?
Sonny: Don't ever say that.
Mike: Anything wrong here?
Ric: [Normal voice] No. We were just -- discussing the warehouse. But -- uh -- it can wait.
Ric: See you later. Mike. I still love looking at her.
Elizabeth: The only way for me to explain why I was in your apartment would be to make something up, and I just didn't want to lie to lucky.
Jason: You were trying to help him. Maybe you did.
Elizabeth: No, you're the one who helped him. He's convinced he shot the gun dealer and it's given him a boost in his confidence. But if he ever finds out that you're the one who rescued him again --
jason: You asked me to stay quiet and I will.
Elizabeth: Thank you. I just want him to be receptive for when I confront him about the drugs.
Jason: Are you -- are you sure about that?
Elizabeth: Yeah. I've ignored the signs, and now I have to deal with it. But you've been great, as always.
Jason: I just -- and I hope things work out.
Sam: What's going on?
Jax: Thank you for defending me to nikolas.
Carly: You ga john a safe and happy home, nikolas needs to know that. Not that it's going to make a bit of difference, you know?
Jax: Just give him time.
Carly: I'm not going to hold my breath.
Jax: I don't think nikolas is going to let me see john again. I think when he calms down and thinks about everything, you know, he'll realize that -- that john needs you.
Carly: John needs you, jax. Because when helena finds out that john is her great-grandson, john is going to be in serious danger. I had everyone believing that maxie lied about the paternity test. It was almost over. John was almost ours. Why did you throw it away?
Emily: How was the christening?
Nikolas: Oh. Full of surprises. See, it turns out that -- that john ist jax's son. He's mine.
Mike: Look, I -- uh -- I just thought maybe you should know what happened at the christening.
Sonny: I'm suret was nice, mike.
Mike: Yeah, it was, it was -- until the end. Jax isn't john's father. Robin announced that nikolas is the real father, and that jax and carly have been keeping the truth from him.
Mike: Yeah. And look, I'm sure this brings up all kinds of bad memories about the times that carly lied to you, but I really --
sonny: Nikolas is going to need a mother for the baby.
Mike: Look, I don't think he's even started to -- to comprehend --
sonny: He's going to want -- he's going to want emily back, she's going to go. I'm going to lose emily to nikolas.
>> Stay tuned for scenes from the next "general hospital."
>> On the next "general hospital" --
emily: It's so unbelievable. You're going to be a wonderful father.
Jax: How can you stand there and ask why? Everything I did was in john's best intest.
Elizabeth: Jason did me a huge favor. I was just thanking him.
Sam: As long as you're passing out favors, how about me?
