Alexis: Ric? Excuse me -- excuse me, my husband was in -- in this room. They had given him something to make him feel better, and he's not there.

Ric: Looking for me?

[Alexis sighs]

Alexis: Don't do that.

[Ric chuckles]

Alexis: You scared me to death.

Ric: Yeah, I can see that. I can see that. And I understand why. I understand you so much better after you told me about the daughter that you lost.

Jason: Your fever is still down.

Sam: How'd that happen?

Jason: Carly and I found the antidote. Do you feel like you're going to be ok?

Sam: Hmm -- with you looking out for me? How could I be anything else?

Nikolas: How is he?

Jax: Well, there's no sign of the fever. The antidote worked.

Nikolas: That's great. Carly's been really amazing with him, huh?

Jax: Yeah. Maybe a little too much so.

Carly: Hey, here comes your daddy. And he doesn't look very happy. Is there a problem with the baby?

Jax: Carly, what do you really want with my son?

Robert: I thought you might be up for a visit, but since you seem to be working --

Robin: Mm-hmm. I can't stay in this bed for another second and not do something. Besides, my fever has broken, and I'm feeling better.

Robert: Well, I don't have to bore you about your condition, I know.

Robin: No, you don't. You don't have to remind me of my medical status or offer any observations or advice about my immune system. I know how to take care of myself. Are you here for an actual reason?

Robert: Well, now that you've asked, yes. I thought you might be interested in knowing who was behind the ransom for the antidote. Turned out it was Holly.

Robin: Holly? What -- why would she do something like that?

Robert: The oldest motive in the world -- greed.

Robin: Wait, wait -- hold on a second. Why would Holly be involved in the manufacture of a virus halfway across the world?

Robert: Well, it appears that she married into it. Her late husband was a -- was a shareholder in Crylium, so she was aware of the virus and the antidote. But when the epidemic hit Port Charles, she decided she'd cash in on it. And that would have been the end of it. But then she found out that I was alive. And so she came up with the ransom idea to get back at me.

Robin: Oh, well, she might have had a slight problem with you faking your death for 15 years.

Robert: Hmm, so I keep hearing. But she led me to believe that she was dead. And besides, when I disappeared, I did happen to be married to your mother.

Robin: You can't possibly be that thick. Your highly exaggerated death affected all of us. What Holly did was reprehensible, but whatever action she chose to take was a result of what you did. So stop trying to explain it away or act like it's no big deal. Stop waiting for everyone to say all is forgiven, because they won’t. It's not.

[Holly sighs]

Holly: Luke. I knew you'd come.

Luke: I thought you could use this.

Holly: You're a Godsend. I've been dying for a cup of coffee.

Luke: That's ironic.

Holly: What do you mean?

Luke: You dying for coffee. People in the hospital dying for a cure. Enjoy it. That extra kick you taste is 10 cc's of the virus I laced it with.

Holly: You wouldn't do that to me. So what are you doing here? Or should I guess?

Luke: Curiosity, I suppose.

Holly: Fascination? You know, I still think about us, how we were together.

Luke: We were good. A long time ago.

Holly: Some things are so visceral that they stay with you. Remember our first night together, in the woods? Remember? Under a million stars.

Luke: I'll never forget that. Every camper's dream come true.

Holly: I've never been as happy as I was with you, Luke. And I know that you loved me. We could have it back. All you have to do is help me get out of here. I promise you, you'll never regret it.

Patrick: The fever's down. You're definitely improving, but I'd like you to stay put for a few days.

Sam: What if I promise to take it easy?

Patrick: You can start by taking walks around the hall as long as someone's with you.

Jason: I'll be with her.

Patrick: Everyone in this hospital owes you and Carly a debt of gratitude. Not only did you recover enough antidote to stamp out the virus and save a lot of lives, but there's enough for us to study for duplication. Whatever you've done any other time, today you're a hero. Slow and easy. You'll be good as new.

Sam: Wow. Huh. A hero?

Jason: Hmm.

Sam: Well, that's pretty good press for a change, huh?

Jason: It'll pass.

Sam: Yeah, yeah. Yeah right, it probably will. Ok, so Patrick said that he wanted me to get myself back together, be good as new, but I don't think that's possible. My brother is gone, and so is a part of the person that I used to be. It's all the family I had left.

Ric: Giving up a child when you were hardly more than one yourself had to be -- had to be a life-changing event. I mean, it's colored and shaped everything that you thought or felt ever since.

Alexis: That's true.

Ric: Hmm.

Alexis: What's your point?

Ric: That you're no longer a scared little teenager, Alexis, who has to bow to the whims of others. You're a grown woman and you are fierce and you are strong. You are a loving wife, and you are a wonderful mother. And nobody can take that away from you. And nobody is going to swoop in and steal your family from you in the middle of the night. And you have no reason to feel guilty because you couldn't keep your daughter.

Alexis: I'll try to remember that.

Ric: Want to go home to our daughters now?

Alexis: Yes, please.

Jax: I didn't want to get into this in front of the baby.

Carly: I didn't realize there was a problem, Jax.

Jax: Well, there could be.

Carly: Can you -- could you sit with Little John for a minute, please?

Nikolas: Sure, I'd love to.

Carly: Ok, well?

Jax: Don't get me wrong. I'm -- I'm really grateful for what you -- what you've done for John.

Carly: Ok, but?

Jax: I just think that you should back off just a little bit.

Carly: Excuse me?

Jax: I don't want him to get attached.

Carly: Wow. I mean, did you forget that I almost died a half a dozen times helping Jason find the antidote that saved your son?

Jax: Carly, I know what -- I know what you went through.

Carly: No, you don’t. No, you don’t. You weren't shot at. You weren't held hostage. You weren't injected with the deadly virus, and you didn't inject yourself with something that you hoped to be the antidote in some crazy act of desperation. And you certainly weren't there when I promised Courtney that I was going to take care of her little boy. So please don't mistake this for something I'm doing for you, because I'm doing it for her and that little boy, who she's not around to love.

Jax: Is this really about honoring your word to Courtney, or does this have something to do with Sonny?

Nikolas: You know, for a minute there, I thought I was going to be your father. That I'd be the one walking with you in the middle of the night while your mom caught up on her sleep, telling you how much I loved you, and swearing to protect you with my life. And then -- and then I thought I would marry Courtney, and just be your step dad, but still be a constant presence in your life, watching you grow, chasing monsters out of the -- out of the closet and out from underneath your bed. But it didn't work out that way, either, did it? No. I guess -- I guess there are some things that -- that you should be afraid of. Things that -- that you can't see sneak up on you and steal away all your dreams. Anyway, so here I am, with you. And here you are, with me. I need you. I need you more than you know. So hang in there, buddy, ok? You hang in there for me.

Carly: Thank you for getting here so fast.

Sonny: What's going on?

Carly: Well, Jax wants to know your intentions towards Courtney’s baby.

Sonny: What do you mean, intentions?

Carly: I'm going to let him tell you, so I don't get accused of sending you hand signals to influence your answers. Can I sit with him, please?

Nikolas: Yeah, sure, you don't have to ask. There you go.

Carly: Thanks.

Nikolas: So I'm hoping that there's not going to be a lot of friction around the baby. It's not good for him. I'm sure you know that.

Carly: It wasn't good for him before he was born, but that didn't stop you and Jax.

Nikolas: No.

Carly: Hey. Hey, baby.

Nikolas: I'm sure Courtney would be glad to know that you're taking an interest in her son.

Jax: Nikolas brings up my point. I'm concerned.

Sonny: Ok, well, I'm listening.

Jax: Look, John's not even a week old and Carly’s taking an active role in his life.

Sonny: Well, that doesn't surprise me. I mean, Carly loves children, and Courtney was her best friend.

Jax: Or she's doing it on your behalf.

Sonny: What do you mean, my behalf?

Jax: John's your nephew, ok, Sonny? I know how ruthless you can be when it comes to family. So it occurred to me that you might be using Carly to try to take my son away from me. And if that's your strategy, I suggest that you back off, because there's nothing I won't do to keep this little boy.

Luke: Look, maybe you haven't had a chance to catch up on all the society-page gossip around here, but I'm married -- to Tracy Quartermaine.

Holly: You are kidding me.

Luke: My marriage is no joke. It's worth a hell of a lot to me.

Holly: Are you happy?

Luke: Eh -- well --

Holly: Do you and Tracy -- you know, like we used to? You remember? Remember how I would --

Luke: Oh, God, no, Tracy doesn't go there. You know, all these memories that I have of you have been overshadowed, Holly. Overshadowed by what you tried to take from me -- my life, my kids' lives. My brother-in-law didn't dodge this bullet. And now my sister and my nephew are walking wounded. This got very personal for me, English.

Holly: I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. But I didn't manufacture that virus. I didn't set it loose on Port Charles. All I tried to do was make a profit off the cure. And you're really telling me that if you didn't have the same opportunity, you wouldn't have done exactly the same thing yourself?

Luke: You know me too well. I've always admired a well-played hand. I can't judge you or your motives. But I can't help you, either. Think of it this way -- I'll always remember you because of the scar I'm going to carry in my leg from your bullet wound.

Holly: Luke, I can't help it. I still remember us as if -- as if it was yesterday. It was so explosive. Maybe you need to be reminded.

Robert: Exploring old territory, are we?

Holly: Robert.

Luke: Well, she hasn't lost her touch. You want to go get drunk?

Robert: Oh, yeah. Metro Court. This won't take long.

Luke: So long, Holly.

Robert: Any port in a storm, eh?

Holly: Truthfully, I'd love any man who got me out of this mess.

Robert: Mm-hmm. And I'm sure they'd be very grateful. You're going back to the islands, and the judicial system there is a bit tougher than it is here.

Holly: Is that why you're here? To gloat over me being dragged off to God knows what fate?

Robert: No. I'm here to say I'm sorry.

Sonny: Carly's interest in your son is her own. I mean, Courtney was her friend. She never got to be there when Michael and Morgan were born. Whatever. Look, you should be grateful, because your son can only benefit. As far as the rest, you got nothing to fear from me, because I know how important a father is to his son, especially when the mother's not around. I respect that. I am not going to come between you and John in any way. You have my word.

Jax: Ok. Then I'll accept it.

Sonny: I mean, I know we've had, you know, some hostility and mistrust in the past. I'd love to see my -- my nephew grow up. But if you don't want me to be any part of that -- if you're not comfortable with that, I understand. I'll keep my distance.

Mike: Like that's something new. Some big hardship. You don't give a damn about John, just like you didn't care about Courtney.

Sonny: You don't know what you're talking about, Mike, so I don't know know --

Mike: Oh, you don't think I do? You don't think so? Let me hazard a guess. When Courtney died, you didn't spare one second of your time in mourning for her. You went straight home and hit the sheets with Emily. How am I doing so far?

Nurse: I'm sorry, but you're not family. I cannot give that information out. Now, if you'll excuse me --

[Nikolas sighs]

Emily: Nikolas --

Nikolas: Yeah?

Emily: What's going on?

Nikolas: Nothing, I'm just -- I'm trying to help make arrangements for Courtney, but I can't get any details because I'm not John's father. I'm not Courtney’s husband. I'm not -- I'm sorry, I shouldn't -- I'm laying out all my frustrations on you, I'm sorry.

Emily: No, it's ok.

Nikolas: Are you?

Emily: Yeah.

Nikolas: Listen, I barely even remember this epidemic, but one thing stands out for me. And that's -- that's how you took care of me, and Sonny. All right? You never stopped being amazing. Are you really ok?

Emily: Nikolas, I'm fine. But I don't understand why you're so worried about me.

Sam: Ok, I'm a little shakier than I thought.

Jason: You want to go back?

Sam: No, I want to try and get at least one full lap around here before I --

Ric: What's the first thing --?

Alexis: Kiss my daughters.

Ric: And then?

Alexis: Eat chocolates. I'm really glad that you're recovering. And again, I am so sorry about Danny. I am not going to insult you by saying something inane like, "I know how you feel," because I don’t. I can’t. All I know is that I will always be profoundly grateful for everything that you did for my family. And there aren't words to express the regret that I feel for not being able to repay you by saving Danny. I really hope that someday you'll be able to forgive me.

Ric: Ok, let's go, let's go.

Jason: You ok?

Sam: I'd like to go back to the room.

Patrick: Ahem -- put the files away.

Robin: I'm in the middle of something.

Patrick: Doctor's orders.

Robin: Is that an ice cream bar?

Patrick: Not just an ice cream bar.

Robin: I only like one flavor.

Patrick: Exactly.

Robin: Fudge mocha -- how did you know?

Patrick: You mentioned it when you were delirious with fever, along with a bunch of other various embarrassing revelations.

Robin: No, you can't fool me because there are none -- which is the most embarrassing revelation in itself.

Patrick: Truth? I've noticed fudge mocha brownie wrappers in the garbage outside the lab.

Robin: Thank you. It's uncharacteristically thoughtful of you.

Patrick: I have my moments.

Robert: There are no excuses for what I did to you or my daughter. Or to anybody else who cared for me way back when. Allowing people to think I was dead all this time comes under the heading of unforgivable.

Holly: But you expect it anyway.

Robert: Oh, I'm hoping my daughter can take a shot at it.

Holly: There was a time we shared everything, Robert. There was complete trust between us. Did I really mean so little to you in the end?

Robert: In the end, you didn't factor into my decision at all. But if what I did had any bearing on what you've become -- a woman who is willing, and knowingly wanted to profiteer off an antidote that could have saved lives, then I -- I am truly sorry.

Holly: You can make up for it.

Robert: Oh, Holly --

Holly: Robert, I loved you. I never stopped loving you. I never will.

Officer: Time to go.

Robert: She's ready.

Sonny: I get that you're hurting over Courtney as bad as it gets. And you're angry at the world, at fate, God, me because I'm still here and Courtney’s dead. And you know what, Mike? I don't blame you. I could have been a lot more considerate to her. That's something I'm going to have to live with. As you know, I've lost children, too. And there's nothing in this world worse. The pain seems bottomless like it's going to swallow you whole. But if hating me helps you deal with it -- if -- if it gives you something that you can hang on to so you don't fall out of sight, then I can take anything you got.

Mike: You can take your empathy and go straight to hell. Or to Emily. Or whoever buys your selective emotion. It ain't me. Now, you take better care of my grandson than you did my daughter. You raise him up smart and strong, and giving, like his mother.

Jax: Mike, you're -- you're welcome in John's life. I know that's what Courtney would have wanted.

Mike: I appreciate that.

Carly: What was that all about?

Jax: Well, first -- first, I owe you an apology.

Jason: I'm sorry, I should have made Alexis shut up or pulled you away from her sooner.

Sam: No. Jason, I didn't want to go. I was actually trying to hear what Alexis was saying. And then all the sudden, her -- her voice just kind of faded out, and this -- this buzzing noise came in my ears, and -- and it was the sound that Danny’s monitors made when he died, and I -- and I just kept hearing Danny say over and over again for me not to cry. He was going, "Don't cry, Sam, don't cry." And then he also said that -- how our parents chose me to be his sister, and then his voice faded and Alexis' voice came boring through with her manipulated guilt and questionable sympathy. And I swear, I just want -- I can't do it, ok? You need to keep her away from me, because I don't know what I'm going to do.

Nurse: Excuse me, Ms. McCall, but I have some forms you need to fill out regarding your brother.

Jason: Can't it wait?

Nurse: Well, we need to do an autopsy so we can get the body moved to a funeral home.

Sam: No, I -- I can't do this right now, Jason, please.

Jason: Ok, ok, I'll take care of it.

Ric: Oh, my goodness. Look at this. What is this? Is this -- is this -- oh, thank you very much, honey. Is this treasure from my favorite little pirate, huh? Did you make this for me?

Alexis: She made it out of breakfast.

Ric: Oh.

Alexis: It was terribly creative.

Ric: Did you -- wow. Hey, I like the residue of the grape jelly nail polish that's left over from breakfast.

Alexis: Yes, we get started on the girlie thing very early in this family and you need to get used to it.

Ric: I see that. Hey, you know what? I got an idea. Oh, boy. I got an idea. Why don't we take some time off and plan a little family trip? I thought of maybe buying a boat so we can, you know -- we can go sailing. What do you think about that, huh? Argh.

Kristina: Yes.

Alexis: Maybe we might want to think about the boat in the bathtub for a little while longer.

Ric: Oh, I think mommy's afraid of getting seasick. What do you think?

Alexis: Am I that transparent?

Ric: Yeah. So, where's your treasure chest, huh? I mean, every good pirate should have one. What's that, baby?

Kristina: Mommy has her treasure in it, too.

Jax: I'm sorry, it was -- it was wrong of me to accuse you of clearing the way for Sonny to steal my -- my son.

Carly: It's a parent's instinct to want to protect their children. What changed your mind?

Jax: Sonny. You know, for once, he actually said something that I believed.

Carly: He has pretty strong views on kids knowing their fathers.

Jax: Right.

Carly: It came from his situation with Alexis. That little baby is going to need all the love he can get.

Jax: And I'm going to need some help in that department, if you're still willing to give it.

Carly: I'm not really big on forgiveness. But I guess I can make an exception, for the baby.

Jax: And I want to honor Courtney. I want to give that boy the -- the best start in life that I can.

Carly: You know what? I think I have an idea that may help you with that.

Sonny: Hey, I'm glad you're back.

Emily: I needed to talk to you. Sonny, something happened at the hospital.

Sonny: Yeah, me, too. Carly calls, right?

Emily: Right.

Sonny: Says Jax is upset because he thinks I'm going to take his child from him. So I had to go to the hospital and convince him that was not the case. Mike walks up.

Emily: Hmm.

Sonny: Jumps down my throat. And he says to me that I don't -- I don't care about Courtney, and I'm using her death to be with you.

Emily: I'm sorry. Are you all right?

Sonny: Yeah, I'm fine. But it's a pattern with us. We lash out at each other. I don't want him dragging you in the middle of every -- I'm sorry. You said you want -- you needed to tell me something?

Emily: No, I -- I ran into Nikolas at the hospital, and he's really shaken by Courtney’s death. And now he's worried about me. And he -- he just wants to know that I'm ok and that there's nothing in my life that's going to -- going to hurt me.

Sonny: Like me? You know, I don't -- I don't want you to misunderstand, ok? Because I want to be with you. But if our relationship is going to cause so much anger and pain with everybody we care about, there's only one thing we can do and that's, you know, stay away from each other.

Robert: Good day.

Luke: What'll you have? I'm buying.

Robert: Uh -- vodka ice.

Luke: Vodka ice. What's the matter? Oh, my God, you didn't kill her, did you? You got her in the trunk of the car? I know a great place to stash her body.

Robert: I just -- it's worth remembering but, no, she's on her way back to the islands. Good riddance.

Luke: It was some reunion.

Robert: Yeah, well, maybe it all worked out for the best. I mean, Holly was never what she appeared to be.

Luke: Well, one thing's for damn sure. The years have been a lot kinder to her than they have been to you.

Robert: You're looking in the wrong mirror, bud.

Luke: I know. I'm afraid it's true, Robert. We ain't as debonair as we used to be.

Robert: We're not as anything as we used to be.

Luke: You know, you could have had her and all that money.

Robert: You had the same offer.

Luke: Yeah, but what am I going to do with a beautiful woman and a million bucks, living out my life on some desert island paradise?

Robert: Explain to me once more the downside of that deal.

Luke: Damned if I know. Here's to you.

Robert: Here's to us.

Carly: Look, there's great news. The house next door to mine is for rent, and you can move in right away.

Jax: What -- what do you mean, move in?

Carly: That's what I said.

Jax: Well, I was planning to -- to live in the penthouse.

Carly: You can't live in the penthouse. It's not good for a baby. Trust me, I've been there. And no offense, but you're new at this, and you're going to need some help. I'd be right next door, and so would Leticia.

Jax: Oh, I'm -- I'm going to get a nanny.

Carly: But the nanny's going to need some time off. Why are you not all over this? Look, you know my neighborhood. It's great. There are trees; there's fresh air. It's quiet. John will be growing up next to Michael and Morgan. It's a win-win situation.

Sonny: You know, everybody's reeling in the wake of this epidemic, trying to pick up the pieces of their lives, and dealing with Courtney’s death at the same time. Throw hostility towards us into the mix, and maybe we're not being fair.

Emily: Sonny, I don't want to be without you.

Sonny: No, no, no, no -- listen to me. That's not what I meant. We keep seeing each other, but we don't throw it in anybody's face. You know what I mean? Do you think you can live with that?

Emily: If that's how it has to be.

Sonny: It just kind of seems unfair, doesn't it? Like we have something to be ashamed of.

Emily: Do you believe that?

Sonny: No.

Emily: Me, either. Sonny, I'm never going to be ashamed of loving you.

Nikolas' voice: Say you'll be my wife, please.

Courtney: Are you sure?

Nikolas: I bought you an engagement ring.

Courtney: Hmm.

Nikolas: It's on my dresser. And I promised myself that I would offer it to you the first time I saw you again.

Courtney: I knew whether we were together or apart, I would love you for as long as I lived.

Nikolas: This ring was for you.

Ric: Viola's putting them both down for a nap. What do we got?

Alexis: Kristina's right. This is a treasure chest.

Ric: Huh.

Alexis: Kristina, Molly, and the baby I carried for nine months and held for all of about 10 seconds. I really need to stop this.

Ric: Maybe not. We're both attorneys, Alexis. We could find your daughter.

Alexis: Absolutely not.

Sam: And I don't really think my mother liked either one of us. She was ashamed of Danny’s handicap and she was always so cold to me, which doesn't make sense to what Danny said, saying that I was chosen, because I certainly didn't feel that way.

Alexis: I gave my baby up. I have no reason to barge into her life now.

Ric: She's your child.

Alexis: Not anymore.

Jason: What if you were more chosen than you think?

Sam: What do you mean?

Jason: Well, what if you were adopted?

Sam: That's impossible.

Jason: Why?

Sam: Why? Because my father would have told me.

Jason: Not necessarily.

Sam: Ok, well, you know what? If you're right, then there is a way to find out.

Alexis: I'm putting this away. There is no point in reliving something that I can't do anything about.

Sam: I'll have the hospital run a D.N.A. test on Danny. I'll find out if he's my brother; that my parents are my parents, no matter how dysfunctional. But they were my parents, not some stranger who gave me away.

Alexis: Whoever and wherever my daughter is, it's best that we don't find each other.

>> On the next "General Hospital" --

Elizabeth: It's astonishing how well things worked out for you.

Lucas: I figured you'd be a no-show.

Luke: For your father, I make an exception.

Tracy: She does not spend the night here.

Dillon: Then we leave.

Lulu: Since we're about to go bury my uncle, maybe we could table this fight until later.

Carly: I am so ashamed and I am so sorry.
