Elizabeth: A.J., I have an --
A.J.: Liz, is that you? She just threatened to kill me.
Carly: No, no, don't believe him. I was actually just thanking him for having a change of heart and bringing Michael back to us.
Elizabeth: Yeah, well, either way, you're going to leave because Dr. Webber has ordered an injection for A.J. to sleep.
A.J.: No, no, no, Liz, no. No -- no sedatives.
Elizabeth: Sorry, doctor's orders.
Carly: Sweet dreams, A.J.
A.J.: I've got something I want to say.
Sam: Excuse me. Have you seen a patient? Jason Morgan is his name.
Nurse: Maybe he was taken upstairs for x-rays.
Sam: Okay, could you -- is there any way you could find out? Call, or do something?
Sam: Oh -- you know what? Forget it. Here he is. Thank you. Hey, hi. I brought you the water, you weren't here. I got a little worried.
Jason: Yeah, I just -- I couldn't sit still. I kept -- I kept thinking about how shut down Michael is.
Sam: He's going to come out of it, Jason. You just got to give him some time, you know?
Jason: I just -- I wanted to find out exactly what A.J. told him.
Sam: You went to see A.J.?
Jason: You know, I thought about it. I thought about squeezing his neck until he told me everything he said to Michael. But then I decided against it.
Sam: Good, good. That's probably a good idea because A.J. is just probably going to provoke you, and he just wants to start --
Jason: You know what, Sam? I don't want to talk about A.J. again.
Monica: It's better that you didn't know I was gone. Oh, my God.
Emily: Mom? How's Dad?
Monica: Uh, he's -- he's resting comfortably. Are you okay?
Emily: Yeah. I just got this terrible feeling that something bad had happened and I ran back down to check on Dad.
Monica: No, there's been no change. Listen, would you like to go and get something in the cafeteria?
Emily: No, you go ahead, Mom. I want to take this shift and sit with Dad for a couple of minutes.
Elizabeth: Hey. I thought you were going home.
Ric: Yeah, I just decided to stick around. I'm going to interrogate A.J.
Elizabeth: Ric, you canít.
Ric: Elizabeth, look, the man arranged the kidnapping of three children, he faked Michael's death, and now on top of everything else, he shot his own father. Okay, I don't care what the hospital policy is about interrogating patients. I need to get in there and follow up before he surrounds himself with a sea of defense attorneys so they can coach him on every word.
Elizabeth: Okay, okay, it's not about hospital policy. A.J. was given a sedative. He can't talk to anyone.
Ric: Oh. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bite your head off.
Elizabeth: It's okay. Everyone's on edge about what happened.
Ric: You know, I've always looked at A.J. Quartermaine as basically ineffectual, an annoying embarrassment, but no threat to anybody else.
Elizabeth: You're not the only one who thought so.
Ric: Elizabeth, I've prosecuted a lot of cases, but I have never wanted to convict anybody so badly as I do A.J. I mean, he tormented Alexis and me when he took Kristina, he put Sonny and Carly through a hell that no parent should ever have to go through, and on top of everything else, he traumatized Michael to where the kid can't even communicate. I can't let him get away with that. One way or another, A.J. Quartermaine is never going to hurt anybody again.
Jax: I thought you went to see Michael.
Courtney: I was. Well, I mean, I am, yeah.
Jax: Where'd you go?
Courtney: I just -- I wanted to get Michael some candy, but the machine down here is broken, so I went upstairs.
Jax: Oh. Did you get what you needed?
Courtney: Yeah, I took care of it.
Reese: You okay?
Sonny: Yeah, I'm fine. Just -- I'm going to go see Michael.
Reese: I'm surprised you left him.
Sonny: Yeah, well, you know, I had to clear my head for a second. You know, I was angry because of A.J., and I think Michael was picking up on it.
Reese: So you're feeling better now?
Sonny: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I got it under control.
Steven: We got a code blue, Room 726. Code blue, Room 726. Come on, come on. He's in full arrest. I want you to take over what I'm doing here. I'm going to do compressions.
Steven: One and two and three and four and five. One and two and three --
Nurse: It's charging.
Steven: Two and -- clear!
Nurse: He's still flat-lining.
Steven: Give me 300 joules.
Nurse: Still flat-lining.
Nurse: Okay, charging.
Sonny: I want to be -- I want to be with him. I just don't think it's helping, you know? A.J. filled his head with so much garbage that trying to explain it to him just frightens him.
Reese: Well, Michael is really strong, Sonny, and he's smart, too. And he's going to come out of this and you will get your son back.
Sonny: Dr. OíDonnell says it's going to take some time. You know, it's just -- meanwhile, he's suffering and the whole thing. I don't know.
Reese: But he's going to realize that his parents are there for him now and you're going to protect him.
Sonny: Listen, you know, if A.J. lives and all, there's going to be a trial. I'm not going to let my son testify. He should never have to see A.J. again.
Carly: Is everything all right?
Sonny: Yeah, Michael's -- what are you -- what's wrong?
Carly: Nothing. I just -- I'm just in a hurry to see Michael.
Emily: You remember when I first came to live with you? My mother had just died and I missed her so much. But you made me feel at home, Dad. You bought me clothes. Whatever I wanted. And when you saw that I was sad, you pretended to be a silly bear. And you sang me show tunes until I felt better.
Monica: Any change?
Emily: Yeah. He's resting, which is probably the best thing.
Monica: Oh. It's A.J.
Sam: All right, there's nothing more they can do for you tonight, so I just want to get you home --
Sam: And take care of you.
Monica: A.J. has taken a turn for the worse. Emily and I are going to go see him.
Sam: Well, you don't seem surprised.
Steven: Clear! Again.
Nurse: Still in v-fib. Charging to 300.
John: What's going on?
Ric: A.J.'s taken a turn for the worse.
Steven: One, two, three, four --
Monica: How long have you been working on him?
Steven: 10 minutes. I tried a round of ACLS drugs. Nothing worked.
Monica: No response? Call it.
Steven: Time of death, 10:51 P.M.
Monica: I would like some time alone with my son, please.
Monica: Oh, my boy. I just hope you've finally found some peace, A.J., because you didn't have much in life.
Monica: When -- when did it start? When did you convince yourself that you weren't good enough to get our attention? You just had to do all the bad things. Oh, A.J. If I could go back -- if I could go back, I would -- I would do something, anything -- anything to get you to know how worthwhile you were. I would teach you to like yourself, because you never did. You couldn't -- you couldn't because you hurt so much. And you -- and you hurt so many other people in turn.
Monica: I'm so sorry you never knew how much I love you, A.J. But I did, and I always will.
Jason: Look, I'm not surprised that A.J.'s in trouble.
Sam: Whatever you did, I am going to protect you.
Jason: Sam --
Sam: I will give you an alibi. I will be --
Jason: When someone does what A.J. did -- hurt that many people, cause that much pain -- the damage comes back to bite them sooner or later. That's what I always figured would happen to A.J.
Emily: A.J.'s dead.
Sonny: A.J. disturbed Michael's belief in his family. Look at him, he's just -- he's like -- it doesn't make any sense. Nothing makes sense to him. He's shutting down. He's just laying there like nothing, you know?
Reese: Well, he's been through an ordeal, but he will get better. You just have to keep reassuring him that he's loved.
Sonny: I tell you what -- whatever it takes, however long, that's what we're going to do.
Ric: A.J. just died a few minutes ago.
Ric: His heart stopped. Dr. Webber tried to save him. It was no use. There was nothing he could do.
Sonny: Sounds like justice to me.
Courtney: I'm glad A.J.'s dead. Thank God Michael never has to see him again. Now I don't have to worry about what he's going to do next to get back at me.
Jax: Why? Did he threaten you?
Courtney: Yep. He said he was going to make my life hell. You know, you'd think after A.J. almost died he'd want to make amends, that he'd want his life to mean more than just the misery he caused other people. But not A.J. You know, when I saw him in the E.R., he was nastier than ever.
Jax: What did he say?
Courtney: Oh, you know, he accused me of cheating on him with Jason, the golden brother. Like what Jason and I had was just some little -- I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I'm just rambling.
Jax: No, no, no. I totally understand.
Courtney: But do you?
Jax: I do. You were married to A.J. You were also married to his brother. Whether I like it or not, you know, you were a part of that family. You probably want to talk to Jason about A.J.'s death.
Courtney: That wouldn't bother you?
Jax: No. Not at all. I want you to do whatever is necessary to put this behind you.
Courtney: I love you so much.
Reese: I want to question Dr. Webber and find out if A.J. said anything to him before he died.
Steven: Monica? Obviously, take as much time as you need. Though, when you are done, we're going to take A.J.'s body down to the morgue for the autopsy.
Monica: No. No, you wonít. The cause of death is obvious. A.J. fell, he broke his back, and he died from complications. No, my son is not going to have an autopsy. He's finally at peace. Just let him be.
Steven: Is there something you're not telling me?
Monica: I don't want my son's body mutilated by an autopsy. His life was full of suffering. I want his death to be peaceful.
Steven: The last thing I want is to cause you or your family any more grief. But I don't have a choice because in cases like this, an autopsy is standard. I thought you would know that.
Monica: You can get around it, Steven. I'll sign anything.
Steven: A.J. was stable. His prognosis was good. Suddenly, minutes later, he dies. I can't ignore that. I have to investigate and figure out why that happened.
Ric: It's also the law.
Reese: Dr. Webber just told you that A.J.'s death was unexplained. Don't you want to know what killed him?
Emily: A.J. had been gone for so long that I didn't believe that I was ever going to see him again. And when I did, he shot our father in the back.
Emily: But I'm going to try to forget that and all of the other awful things that A.J. did, and I'm just going to try to remember the way that he was when he was a kid. He was helpful, he was funny -- my big brother. Jase, thank God you're okay.
Sam: Jason? Jason? Do you want to go after her?
Jason: No, no, she'll come by or she'll call me if she needs me.
Sam: Look, A.J. was your brother, too. Do you want to talk about it? Is there anything that I can do?
Jason: You know what? I actually used to feel sorry for A.J. Nothing ever went right for him. But not after what he did to Michael.
Alan: Why are you wasting your time looking at me?
Emily: I'm not wasting my time, Dad. I'm happy to do it.
Alan: Is your mother with A.J.? How's he doing?
Emily: Dad, are you thirsty? Do you want something to drink?
Alan: You didn't answer my question. Has something happened to A.J.?
Alan: Tell me.
Emily: We can talk about it later. Dad, right now --
Alan: Look, if something has gone on with his injuries, we could fly in a specialist. And it's important that we do something quickly, you know, before it gets worse.
Emily: That's not going to happen.
Alan: No, you're wrong. Whatever the crisis is, A.J. -- he'll come through it.
Emily: Dad, he's gone.
Sonny: Come here.
Carly: What? Is everything okay?
Sonny: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I guess you could say that. A.J.'s -- A.J.'s dead.
Carly: Are you sure?
Sonny: Yeah. Ric just told me. They don't know what happened. The doctors tried to save him, and, you know, there was nothing they could do.
Carly: Oh, okay. That's -- that's weird. I know he's Michael's biological father and that Michael's in this world because of him because I -- I just don't -- it's weird. I don't care. I feel nothing.
Sonny: Well, A.J. got what he deserved, right?
Carly: I just wish it had happened years ago.
Sonny: Well, you know what? It's the best thing that could have happened because, you know, there would have been a trial and then they would have wanted Michael to testify in court.
Carly: And A.J. can't plead insanity. I don't know what I would've done if that had happened, Sonny, watching him get away with everything he did. I couldn't have taken that.
Sonny: Well, now we don't have to worry about it, right?
Ric: The results of A.J.ís autopsy will be released soon.
Carly: Autopsy? Why are you doing an autopsy?
Ric: Well, because he was in stable condition, and then suddenly he was dead. The doctors, the hospital, and the police department have to know why.
Sonny: Ric, he was a worthless piece of garbage. Who cares why?
Ric: Sonny, I understand that, but it's not that simple.
Carly: Well, it should be. He was -- why prolong the misery? He created enough misery when he was here. Why not just put him in the ground and forget about it?
Ric: I understand the two of you have been through a nightmare here, but to some extent it's over, okay? A.J.'s dead. You don't have to deal with him anymore.
Carly: I need to talk to my mother, okay?
Ric: You know, I'd like to believe that A.J. died of natural causes. But considering the amount of people in this hospital alone who hated him, I don't think that's going to happen.
Courtney: Jason? Hi.
Jason: You heard about A.J.?
Courtney: Yeah. I -- I don't know why I'm here. I just -- I had to see you. Look, it's just -- I almost threw my life away on A.J., you know? I wouldn't listen to anyone. I mean, people would warn me, and it just made me even more determined to be with him, and -- if it hadn't been for you, I would have stayed with A.J. and he would have destroyed me. I would have nothing instead of what I have now, and I just -- I just wanted to thank you.
John: I have a feeling that finally you can use some help from your father.
Carly: I'm here to pray for my son, for the words -- the right words to say to him, for an end to all this. I didn't ask your advice. I'm going to a higher power.
John: Carly, I'm not here to tell you what to do about Michael. I'm only here to remind you that I love you, no matter what.
Carly: Unfortunately, your love always comes with an agenda attached.
John: Carly, I'm only here to help my daughter. You're not alone. You have me, and I'll do everything I can for you.
Carly: I have to find Michael.
Alan: He could have been anything he wanted. Could have been a doctor like his parents or a businessman like his grandfather. He had the whole world in front of him. He couldn't find any happiness.
Emily: Dad, it was A.J.'s life. You couldn't live it for him.
Alan: I could've done better. I could have praised him more or forgiven him more quickly. I should have made sure that he knew how deeply I loved him.
Emily: A.J. knew how much you loved him.
Monica: You know?
Alan: Uh-huh. Our boy's gone. We just got him back, and now he's gone forever.
Monica: He had such a painful life. I hope he's found some peace.
Alan: Were you with him at the end?
Monica: Uh, I think he -- he died in his sleep. Steven tried to revive him, but it was too late. After it was over, I -- I was alone with him. I looked down at his face, and for the first time in years, it was calm. The mouth didn't have that -- that sneer. Know what I did? I kissed him good night, just like when he was a little boy. And that's the way I'm going to remember him. He was just our beautiful boy, and he's finally at rest.
Ric: Any word on A.J.'s autopsy yet?
Elizabeth: No. As far as I know, the report hasn't come back yet.
Ric: Okay. Listen, I know it's hard when somebody that you know dies, even if you didn't like them.
Elizabeth: Oh, believe me, it isn't that. A.J. was given a sedative to help him sleep, and he didn't want it but I gave it to him anyway.
Ric: Under doctor's orders?
Elizabeth: Well, yeah, of course. But, still, I can't help thinking -- what if something went wrong and it was the sedative that killed him?
Ric: Well, Elizabeth, I doubt -- I doubt that that would happen. But even if there were a negative effect from the sedative, it wouldn't have been your fault.
Elizabeth: I know. But, thanks, it helps hearing you say it. You look exhausted.
Ric: Yeah, I am.
Elizabeth: What are you still doing here? Why don't you go home to Kristina and Alexis?
Ric: They're out of town.
Elizabeth: Oh. On vacation?
Ric: No, Alexis just -- she just needed a break from everything. I can't say as I blame her.
Elizabeth: Oh. I got to get back to work.
Ric: Yeah, me, too.
Elizabeth: Get some rest, okay?
Ric: Yes, my wife is staying in your hotel. I'm not sure of the room number. Alexis Davis. What? No, that can't be. I know she's staying there. She never checked in? Yeah, thank you.
Sonny: A.J.'s dead, Michael. He was a very troubled man. He made a lot of mistakes, especially with you. He lied to you. But the lies are over now, okay? A.J.'s gone.
Sam: Hey. Thank you.
Sam: You all right?
Carly: Oh, Jason, I have to talk to you. It's so important.
Sam: You know what?
Sam: We're about to get released. We could take this at home.
Carly: Jase, it's important.
Jason: Okay, just -- Sam, do you mind?
Sam: Sure, sure. But in case you forgot, Jason fell from a second-story landing tonight, and he's pretty banged up. Maybe you would take that into consideration before you --
Carly: I don't need for you to give me instructions on how to talk to Jason!
Jason: Carly, Carly --
Carly: Don't take her side.
Sam: You know what? There is no side to take.
Sam: I will meet you --
Jason: You know, don't show up and throw Sam out of a room again.
Carly: This is not the time to be thinking about Sam. Can you just forget about her for five minutes?
Jason: What happened?
Carly: I did something that you're really not going to like.
Sonny: It's -- it's hard when someone dies, buddy. However you felt about them --
Sonny: However you felt about that person, you just -- you got nowhere to put those feelings anymore, you know? But you know what? When we get you home, it's going to be okay because you're going to start feeling like yourself again. Okay, I'm going to -- I'm going to be outside, okay, for a second if you need me for anything.
Sonny: I told him A.J.'s dead. He went back to holding that pillow.
Reese: He's trying to withdraw. Michael's confused, Sonny. He doesn't know who to trust.
Sonny: Well, he used to know he could count on me for anything. A.J. took that away from him, you know?
Reese: Okay, but you have to be patient. You know, Michael's been traumatized for months. Just put yourself in his place.
Sonny: I've been in his place. My stepfather was a miserable human being. He'd get drunk, lock me in the closet, get drunker, and beat the living daylights out of me.
Reese: Well, then you do understand, and that's -- that's good for Michael.
Sonny: What A.J. did to Michael was worse. He got in his head, made him question everything he knew. But I got to look at the bright side. It's over. A.J.'s dead. He can't hurt my son anymore.
Reese: A.J.'s autopsy report just came in.
Courtney: These past few months have been so tough. Can we just get away for a few nights? Someplace quiet where we can recharge our batteries?
Jax: What would be the point of that?
Courtney: What do you mean?
Jax: Well, there's something that we have to take care of here in Port Charles before I can enjoy a relaxing weekend away with you.
Courtney: Oh, really? What's that?
Jax: Our wedding.
Elizabeth: Okay, here's your paperwork, and I'm going to call for a wheelchair to get Jason out of the hospital.
Sam: Oh, no, no, no, no. That's -- please, can we skip that? You know Jason. He's not going to want to go out in a wheelchair.
Elizabeth: Just walk fast.
Sam: Okay, thank you.
Steven: Without going into detail, I'll give you the broad strokes. A.J. didnít die from the fall. He was murdered.
Carly: Okay, I went to see A.J. in his hospital room, and he was lying there tied up, still spewing threats. He said he was going to try to file for visitation. He said he was going to do anything that he could do just to stay in Michael's life. Okay. It's all right. It doesn't matter anymore. Michael's safe.
Jason: Did -- did you leave A.J.'s room while he was still breathing?
Carly: Absolutely. Elizabeth came in to give him a sedative, so I left. I don't know why the doctors just don't leave this alone -- whatever -- say he fell, broke his back, end of story. But, no, they have to do an autopsy.
Jason: Okay, Carly -- Carly, listen to me. You left A.J.'s room when Elizabeth came in. Did you go back?
Jason: Carly. What'd you do?
>> On the next "General Hospital" --
Luke: Did you miss me?
Courtney: I'm glad that A.J.'s dead.
Ric: I want him to cooperate with the investigation.
Reese: You're assuming that Sonny did it?
Steven: Somebody put a pillow over A.J.'s face.
Carly: Yeah, I -- I went back in there to kill him.
Jason: I don't know if I can
