General Hospital Transcript Friday 4/1/05
Proofread by Kathy
Courtney: Look, if Rachel dies of her injuries, the murder weapon she used to kill A.J. -- which conveniently has my fingerprints all over it -- will go straight to the police.
Jax: Well, then we'll have to act before that happens and go to the police ourselves.
Courtney: No, Jax, no.
Jax: Look, I know -- I know that you're scared. That's what Rachel's been counting on, but this can't go on any longer.
Courtney: Jax, Rachel framed me. Okay, my prints are all over that letter opener. Don't you see? She set it up so there's no way out.
Jax: There's always a way out.
Jason: Now, this is important, Stan. What you're about to say can lead to knowing what happened to Michael, so unless you're 100% sure about your facts --
Stan: Oh, listen, I'm sure. I'm sure. The money trail from Faith to the sniper was complicated, but I was able to trace it back to where it started.
Stan: I don't think it's what you want to hear. The assassin that took out Faith was on Sandoval's payroll, and unfortunately, they're in the morgue.
Jason: So you're telling me the only lead to Michael is a dead end?
Sonny's voice: I thought this was settled.
A.J.: It's not. I think you should talk to Michael yourself.
Sonny's voice: You deal with it.
A.J.: Don't you think you owe Michael a decent goodbye?
Sonny's voice: I don't owe him anything.
Michael: Dad? It's me! I want to come home!
A.J.: I know you heard that, Sonny. Can't you tell how anxious Michael is to speak with you?
Michael: Please, Dad!
A.J.: Look, he's a little boy. Talk to him. He needs to hear something from you, anything. Here. He'll talk to you.
Michael: Dad, I want to come home. Dad, are you there? Pick up!
Alexis: Do you honestly think I don't know what I'm facing?
Ric: I donít. I really don't because if you did completely understand the whole gravity of this situation, you would see that trying to keep Sonny out of his daughter's life is like hitting your fist against a brick wall. It's pointless. You need to think.
Alexis: You think this is about keeping him out of her life? Do you think I'm doing this to hurt him? I'm not doing this to keep her out of his life. I'm -- my preference is that he would change his life so that she could live safely within it, but he won't do that.
Alexis: He won't do it. So, as her mother, what else am I to do except try no matter what?
Ric: So you're fighting a losing battle, Alexis, and I cannot -- absolutely cannot -- help you dig your own grave. You know what, if you insist on going through another custody battle with Sonny, do it on your own.
Courtney: This is pointless, Jax. I mean, yeah, I saw the letter opener that Rachel used to kill A.J., but she put it in a plastic bag. She said she was going to give it to someone to send to the police if anything happened to her.
Jax: This is where Rachel lives, okay? You never know what might turn up. It's worth the effort if it means that Rachel has nothing to hold over your head. Hey. Hey, are those tears?
Courtney: God. Honestly, Jax, I am hanging on by a thread here. I don't know how much more I can take. I mean, I have been trapped in my apartment with a murdering psycho for weeks. And this is a woman who I have known for a grand total of about an hour, who has taken it upon herself to murder my ex-husband, frame me for it, and insist that I kill someone for her in return. I -- Jax, Rachel poisoned you to slap me back into line. We couldn't even have lunch together without getting caught in the middle of a mob ambush. We're engaged here. Okay, I should be looking at wedding dresses, not -- not looking through Rachel's purses for a bloody murder weapon. I mean -- God.
Jax: Hey, hey, I know -- I know this has been torture on you. But the worst is over, okay? You're not alone anymore. Now, I promise that we're going to make Rachel one of our very bad memories.
Courtney: God, you really think so?
Jax: Absolutely. You're going to be my wife. I'm not going to let anything happen to you.
Courtney: Oh, God, Jax. You almost make me believe that this whole nightmare might end.
Jax: "Almost"? It seems I still have some work to do, then.
Courtney: Oh, God, I'm a mess.
Jax: Yes, but you're a gorgeous mess.
Courtney: You're obviously blinded by love. Oh, God.
Jax: Oh, this is interesting.
Jax: It's a receipt from an attorney, cash paid for services rendered.
Jax: So, if Rachel left instructions to send incriminating evidence to the police in case something should happen to her --
Courtney: Then who better to leave them with than an estate lawyer?
Steven: Rachel's still unresponsive.
Mac: I was hoping for better news.
Steven: Mac, I don't understand. Tell my why it's so important for you to question her about the Sandoval shootings? Rachel's a victim.
Mac: Rachel is the only eyewitness to the shootings that we haven't gotten a statement from. And unfortunately, no one saw or heard anything that we can use. Now, Agent Marshall is convinced the shootings were ordered by Sonny, but with no further proof we've got nowhere to go. Rachel could be our only hope.
Steven: Okay, I don't know what she was doing down at that hotel restaurant in the first place. I mean, that place was closed for a private party.
Mac: That's one of the things we'd like to find out. Maybe she knew something was going to go down and she went there to warn Jax and Courtney.
Steven: How would she know? Rachel is a doctor. Rachel does not hang out with mobsters.
Mac: Maybe she came on to some information inadvertently. Maybe she overheard something or stumbled onto a meeting on the docks. It's just a hunch, but I have a feeling Rachel could have something very important to offer when she wakes up.
Steven: There is no guarantee that that's ever going to happen.
Steven: [Muffled] she's been shot in the chest, Mac.
Michael: Dad, are you there? Pick up!
Sonny's voice: I don't want to have to keep saying this. It's done. Go away.
Michael: What are you saying? You don't mean that!
Sonny's voice: I mean it. I never want to see you again.
A.J.: Sonny hung up on you, didn't he?
Jason: That's it. This is where it ends, Sam. What the hell was I even thinking about?
Sam: You needed to know what happened to Michael.
Jason: Chasing down answers was just a way for me not to face it! You know what? Sonny was right. It's time for me to face it.
Sam: Jason, you were following your instincts. You trust them, and you should. So if that voice inside of you is telling you that this journey is over, then you need to let go and move on with your life. But I do not think that that is what you believe.
Reese: You're trying to compromise me. Here's the twist. I don't want you badly enough to let you do it.
Jason: Sam, I get that you're being supportive and I appreciate it, but I don't need any more false hope. I wanted the facts, and that's what I got.
Sam: That is the last thing I want to give you. But I do not want you to discount your intuition, either. You live by it, so do I, and it's served us well. Look, when you first started looking for Michael, you said something critical, Jason. "Assume nothing, believe only what we could see and prove." Remember?
Jason: Yes, I remember.
Sam: Okay. All right, well, then let's think it through from the top. What is the first and most important thing we assumed about Michael, then and now?
Jason: Where are you going with this?
Sam: That he was dead, but why do we believe it?
Jason: Why? Because Sonny heard a gunshot when Faith took the phone away from Michael. And because of that picture.
Sam: Neither of those things qualify as actual proof, Jason!
Jason: The picture showed up in the pocket of the hit man who shot Faith, Sam! We just figured it was one of our enemies' signatures.
Sam: All right, well, then for the sake of argument, let's just say that it wasnít. Why would someone send a photograph of Michael dead to the people who love him the most? Cruelty? Or did they want us to believe that Michael was dead?
Rachel: Oh -- here we go. Ugh --
Steven: Rachel -- Rachel, hey. Hey, welcome back. What are -- what's going on?
Steven: What are you trying to get? Come here. Sweetie, sweetie, sweetie -- Rache? Rache? Oh, come on, sweetie. Come on back up, come on back up. There you go. Okay, gently back. Ah, you're gone again.
[Phone stops ringing]
Courtney: Here. Hey, are you sure this is the right office?
Jax: This is matching stationery -- "Martin Roth, estate planning and probate." Why don't you take the desk, I'll take the files.
Courtney: Okay, okay.
Jax: Just look for an envelope, something with Rachel's name on it, big enough to hold a letter opener.
Courtney: I don't see anything.
Jax: There's no file, either. Maybe there's a safe.
Courtney: Jax -- Jax, someone's coming.
Alexis: You're my husband, and I love you. And Kristina loves you, and we both need you. Please don't abandon us.
Ric: That's not what I'm trying to do, Alexis. I'm trying to save you from yourself. I'm trying to save you from making a mistake that you potentially would not come back from. Now, listen to me -- I know you don't want to hear this, but not only will you lose the petition for custody, you will once again engage a man who you know full well, when you threaten him, especially where his children are concerned, he's going to come out swinging and he won't give at all.
Alexis: I know that I may lose. I know the law. But I won't be able to live with myself if I don't try. And I expect you to understand that. Dara seems to think that we have grounds, that he was woefully inadequate in providing a safe environment, in that Kristina was kidnapped right out from under his nose. She has already suffered under his parentage.
Ric: I am begging you, please drop this.
Alexis: I canít. And I need you to sign a petition. It's not going to look very good for me if my own husband doesn't support me.
Ric: You know what I wish?
Ric: I wish that I could take you and Kristina on a cruise around the world. I wish, even better, that I could strand the both of us on a desert island, and I could love you to such distraction so that you would relax and you would concentrate on our family. But I know you, and there is nothing that I can do to change your mind and make you let this go.
Alexis: Ahem. So you'll stand by me, then?
Ric: You are willingly and unnecessarily putting yourself and our family at risk. I cannot be a party to that.
Alexis: Then what you're saying is that you believe that Sonny's rights as Kristinaís father outweigh her right to grow up safe, and that is unacceptable to me. You go ahead and you support your brother. You be sympathetic to your brother all you want. I don't give a damn.
Reese: You don't have to be psychic to see how this thing turns out. You seduce me, and then you wear me on your arm so everyone knows. And then any case I build against you goes straight out the window. Any charges I level against you just become the ramblings of a woman scorned. Because that's the other element of this scenario, isn't it, Sonny? Once you've stripped me of my credibility, you'll dump me.
Sonny: Can we go back to the part where I strip you?
Reese: Admit it. You created this whole evening just to make me ineffectual.
Sonny: Maybe. What's your excuse?
Man: Yeah, I'm at the office, picking up some files. Did you call earlier? Because I forgot to turn on the answering machine.
Jax: Ah-ah --
Man: All right, see you soon.
Man's voice: You've reached the law offices of Martin Roth. Please leave a message.
Courtney: Nice save.
Jax: Let's look for that safe. Here.
Steven: Courtney, it's Dr. Steven Webber. Remember when you asked me to call you if Rachel regained consciousness? She did.
Jason: I almost deleted this picture. I just -- I don't like knowing it's here.
Sam: Well, Jason, it's awful. Whether it's real or staged, it is a hateful image.
Jason: Okay. We're going to go back to where we started. We're going to keep looking for something that proves -- proves Michael isn't dead.
A.J.: Michael, what happened? Tell me what Sonny said.
Michael: I want to talk to my mom.
A.J.: He told you to stay away, didn't he?
Michael: Call my mom. She'll want me. What?
Michael: You're lying to me. Don't lie to me!
Michael: What are these?
A.J.: Sonny sent them with the pilot.
Michael: I've never seen these before.
A.J.: Well, that's because they were taken just a week ago.
Woman: Oh -- Ms. Davis?
Alexis: Hi. You must be Dr. Winters.
Dr. Winters: Call me Louise.
Alexis: Thank you. Have a seat, Louise. Thank you for coming so quickly.
Louise: Well, you made it sound urgent.
Alexis: Dr. Winters, I'm concerned about my daughter's safety, so I was hoping that we might be able to get this process going as quickly as possible.
Sonny: You're right, I could've staged this whole night, you know? I could be full of ulterior motives for kissing you, but that leaves yours. I mean, what do you have to gain by seducing me? Unless you want to prove that you can. I mean, why take a chance with this alleged case you're trying to build by getting in bed with a man you claim to detest? I mean, I'm the reason you're a Fed, right?
Sonny: Gangsters like me?
Reese: That's right.
Sonny: Unless you kissed me that way because you couldn't help yourself.
Reese: Hmm. Maybe. Or maybe I'm just working my case, trying to get you so turned on and so hot for me that eventually all your secrets will spill on the pillow like a glass of champagne in the heat of passion.
Sonny: Oh, that's poetic. But I don't buy it. Because if you were really working me as hard as you think you are, we'd be in bed by now.
Reese: So then I guess the burning question here is, who's playing who, Sonny?
Sonny: Own it. You want me.
Reese: Has anyone ever told you you're an arrogant bastard?
Sonny: Yeah, a few times. But it still didn't stop us from making progress tonight. I'm -- I'm feeling a little closer to you at this moment, you know. You know, just nice --
[Knock on door]
Dara: Hello? Hi.
Sonny: Oh, hi. Yeah.
Dara: I know, you're as surprised to see me as I am to be here. My timing's bad. Sorry.
Sonny: Agent marshal was just leaving. Or not. I don't -- which --
Reese: I'm going.
Sonny: Oh, okay.
Reese: Yep. Oh, and thank you very much for a fascinating evening.
Sonny: Yeah, we'll do it again. Oh, come on in.
Sonny: So -- I'm sorry. So it's a little late for family law, isn't it?
Dara: I'm flattered. You've been keeping track of me.
Sonny: Well, I like to know how, you know, everybody lines up. Do you want -- I'll get you a drink or --
Dara: I'm on the clock. Alexis Davis hired me to represent her in the petition of sole custody of Kristina.
Steven: Hey. I'm sorry, but she's slipped back into a coma.
Jax: Did she say anything while she was conscious?
Mac: Dr. Webber said she was trying to make a phone call.
Steven: Yeah, she collapsed before she could complete it.
Jax: Any idea who she was trying to call?
Steven: I picked up the phone, it was ringing on the other end, but no one answered.
Mac: Either of you know what that means?
Jax: No, not a clue.
Mac: I'm hoping she can connect Sonny to the Sandoval shootings.
Courtney: You think that's possible?
Mac: Where Sonny is concerned, anything is possible. When she met you at the restaurant, did she warn you that something might happen?
Mac: All right. Listen, Doctor, would you call me if she wakes up again?
Courtney: Can I go in?
Steven: Yeah, I don't see why not.
Courtney: Look, Steven, thank you for calling me. And I'd appreciate it if you would keep me posted.
Courtney: Look at her. I mean, no one would ever know that her heart is so full of hate. God -- who do you think she was trying to call?
Jax: I'm hoping it was a lawyer. Maybe she changed her mind, she wanted to call in to stop him from sending the letter opener to the police.
Courtney: But she didn't get to make the call. So I still might be arrested for A.J.'s murder.
Michael: Why'd you show these to me?
A.J.: I didn't want you to expect anything different from your mom than you got from Sonny. You don't deserve this, bud.
Michael: Don't call me that.
A.J.: You know what? It's time for you to face the facts, Michael. I know it hurts, but those pictures prove what I told you on the island. Look, Carly, your mom, all she's ever wanted is Sonny, and all Sonny's ever wanted are kids of his own, and they have that now. They don't need you to complete the picture. They're one big happy family. I'm sorry, Michael.
Michael: No, you're not. You're not sorry at all!
A.J.: I'm sorry, I am.
Michael: Get out! Leave me alone!
A.J.: Okay, if that's what you want, you got it. It's okay.
Sonny: Alexis really thinks I'm going to stand by and let another child be taken from me?
Dara: Well, as the petition states, there have been substantial changes in the domestic circumstances that existed prior to the original custody agreement. That warrants revisions, especially when the welfare and the safety of the child are at stake.
Sonny: Can you say it in English, please?
Dara: Okay, Kristina was kidnapped while she was under your care because of your prior illegal dealings with Faith Rosco.
Sonny: Okay, first of all, Faith took Kristina, not just because of me -- she wanted to get back at Ric.
Dara: Well, Ric's the D.A., not an alleged racketeer. Besides, Sonny, your son was taken.
Sonny: Okay. Leave my son out of this.
Dara: Unfortunately, Sonny, that is not an option.
Dara: Michael's death will figure prominently in the judge's review of this case. It's imminent. He's already agreed to hearings. In the meantime, your contact with Kristina has been suspended until this issue can be resolved.
Sonny: Alexis is out of her head if she thinks I'm going to stand by and let another child be taken from me. You know what I'm going through right now?
Dara: From her perspective --
Sonny: I don't care about her perspective! We're done. We're done here.
Dara: Look, just so you know, part of the process is court-ordered psychological evaluations and profiles on both you and Alexis.
Dara: Okay? The court will be in touch to set up the times.
Sonny: Find Alexis Davis as soon as you can.
Sonny: You would show up here, Ric.
Ric: I came by to tell you where I stand in all of this. I tried to convince Alexis not to file that petition. I also told her that I think that Kristina needs to have you in her life. I also told her to calm down and be thankful that Kristina is back safe and sound.
Sonny: Obviously, she didn't listen. She badgered some clueless judge into ordering me away from my daughter. That little girl is going to be taken out of her life by strangers, separated from both parents, she gets back here, and now this. Alexis claims to be the paragon, you know, of motherhood. Doesn't she know this is going to confuse and scare Kristina even more, Ric?
Ric: Look, you're preaching to the choir, Sonny. I agree with you. A custody battle's the last thing any of us needs at this point.
Sonny: She's going to lose, okay? She's going to lose, you know that, so what are we going to do?
Ric: I know you're angry.
Ric: But I'm begging you, don't make a bad situation worse.
Sonny: How can it get any worse?
Ric: You and I both know how.
Sonny: Hello. Where? I have an appointment.
Courtney: There's a difference between optimism and realism, Jax. I mean, Rachel's not going to come forward and exonerate me. If she did, she'd have to admit that she killed A.J. Why would she do that?
Jax: You know, people confess to all kinds of things when they -- they think they're dying.
Courtney: You know, I would just give anything to know who she was trying to call.
Jax: You know, I was just thinking about something. The afternoon of the shooting. Rachel was determined to tell us something, remember?
Courtney: Yeah, I thought that she was going to claim that I tried to kill A.J.
Jax: What if it was the opposite? What if she was trying to confess? Yeah, I know that she, you know, she framed you, but what if she has evidence that proves that she's the killer?
Courtney: Maybe we should go back to the loft and search through more of her things. I mean, we already found one clue. Maybe we'll find another. Come on.
Steven: You were right, you know? I was a coward. I should have come forward all those years ago, like you did, and claimed my part of the responsibility for that patient who died. Instead, I -- I let you suffer the consequences, and I let you do it alone. But what I don't understand, Rachel, is why you never gave me up. Do you have some other plan? How does Courtney fit into this?
A.J.: Can I come in?
A.J.: You know, I usually hate it when people say "I know how you feel." But in this case it's true. I know where you are. I've been there, Michael. I've had that same sick feeling in the pit of your stomach. It happened every time I realized yet again my family didn't care about me. I'd break my back trying to please them, trying to be the proper Quartermaine heir my grandfather always wanted. But I was such a sucker. Took me half of my life to figure out that no matter what I did, no matter how hard I tried, the one thing I could never be was Jason, the golden boy. My family would have been much happier if I'd never been born.
A.J.: Do you remember the boathouse? You might be too young. Anyway, that's where I would go to get away, to be by myself. No one to tell me I was a worthless loser, a disappointment, no comparisons to Jason. Just me. So, if -- if you want to be alone, don't worry, I get it. I just wanted you to know that -- that I understand what you're going through and I'm here to help, if I can. All you have to do is ask. Okay.
Michael: A.J., wait. Don't go.
Jason: I've been staring at this picture so long I'm getting such a headache.
Sam: It's really hard to look at him like that.
Jason: I know, I just -- I'm trying to look at what's around Michael, you know, not his face or his eyes or --
Sam: Well, you know, there was always so much going on in his eyes. You could tell exactly, exactly what he was feeling. You know they say the eyes are a window to the soul. In Michael's case, I think that was certainly true.
Jason: Yeah, but -- maybe Michael's eyes can still tell us something.
Jason: Look at that, right there. You see that?
Sam: Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, Michael's eyes aren't closed all the way.
Jason: Now, look, right there. Look at his pupils. They're not dilated.
Sam: Jason, I don't know what that means.
Jason: It means Michael's still alive.
Alexis: I assume Dara served you with the petition.
Sonny: Yeah, she came by with this worthless piece of paper that said I can't see my daughter.
Alexis: Sonny, it's not a worthless piece of paper. It's issued by a court of law and even you have to abide by it.
Sonny: Shut up, shut up for a second, okay? Kristina's my daughter. You didn't conceive her alone, you're not going to raise her alone. Hear me out on this. You are not cutting me out of my daughter's life.
Alexis: Unfortunately, we're both in a position now where a judge has to decide --
Sonny: I don't care what a stranger says. Don't threaten me, bitch.
Alexis: Every woman is a bitch to you eventually, aren't they?
Sonny: I know what this is about, and it's not what's best for Kristina. You're upset because I tossed you right on your hyperventilating butt when I went back to my wife, all right. And the only weapon you have now is my daughter. Well, I'm not going to lay down for her. I'm not going to allow you -- I'm not going to allow you to be the only influence in that little girl's life. I'm not going to let you smother her with your overprotective crap so she turns out as neurotic as you are. I already -- I already lost my son to a lunatic. I'm not going to lose my daughter to another one, even if it happens to be her mother.
Louise: Ms. Davis?
Sonny: Can you just wait, okay? Because we're in the middle of something. Just move -- move away. Thanks.
Alexis: Your timing couldn't be better. Sonny, this is Dr. Winters. She is our court-appointed psychiatrist.
Reese: Hey. I got word that Rachel Adair regained consciousness for a few minutes.
Steven: Yeah. When I came in to see her, she was trying to make a call.
Reese: It's possible that Rachel heard or saw something right before the shooting that could implicate Sonny. At any rate, she's all we've got.
Steven: What's going -- no, no, no.
Reese: What's happening?
Steven: Come on, Rache.
Reese: What is it?
Courtney: Well, that's it. We've looked through everything.
Jax: Once. Now we're going to do it again.
Jax: Look, if there is something here Rachel doesn't want found, it's not going to be in an obvious location. My brother, jerry, used to keep dirty pictures taped on the inside of his history book. It took him months to get through the battle of Trafalgar.
Jax: Oh, what do we have here? Look at that. That's interesting.
Courtney: Rachel has two cell phones.
Jax: Yeah. I've heard of people having two cell phones, one dedicated as a business line, but never in a boot.
Courtney: It's the same number over and over again.
Jax: Call it.
Mac: Courtney, Commissioner Scorpio. Open the door.
[Knock on door]
>> On the next "General Hospital" Ė
Jason: The kidnapper can't know we're onto him.
Mac: Courtney Matthews, I have a warrant for your arrest.
Steven: She's gone into v-fib. I need those paddles. Clear!
Sonny: You got to understand something -- no one will stop me from being her father.
