Nikolas: Wearing a path on the floor won't make Lucky come back any sooner.
Elizabeth: I know, but he's been gone an awfully long time, and I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing.
Emily: It has to be good.
Nikolas: Well, it'll work one way or another.
Elizabeth: Oh, here he is. Hey. So? What happened?
Emily: Oh. Oh, I don't want to hear this, do I?
Lucky: I'm sorry, but the judge considers you a flight risk.
Lucky: He won't release you for any reason, including the marriage.
Nikolas: Well, fine. Then Iíll just have to find a way to escape.
Heather: I'm sorry it had to come to this, Edward. But we were never exactly candidates for happily ever after, were we? Ours was a marriage of convenience, and unfortunately for you it's become inconvenient for me.
Luke: Get that out of my face!
Sam: Jason warned me, but I have to find a way to deal with things, so I went to the nursery. I must have fell asleep. Sonny, I heard a baby.
Sonny: Was she crying?
Sam: No. No, they were happy noises. And I looked over to the mobile, and it was turning. It just -- it felt so real. I got up and I went over to the crib. And I reached inside, and it was empty. I guess I just screamed myself awake.
Sonny: I'm sorry. Can I get you some water?
Sam: The empty crib -- I mean, that -- that was the real part. Our baby's gone. I never knew her, but I miss her. I miss her so much.
Sonny: Hey --
[Knock on door]
Ric: Listen, if you were the source of that file that incriminates Sonny, I'm sure you kept a copy for your own insurance. I want it now. Otherwise, he's not only going to walk, Iím going to lose custody of my stepdaughter.
John: I'm sorry to disappoint you, but I can't help you, Lansing. I can't hand over a file that's supposed to incriminate Sonny if I never had it to begin with.
Ric: There's no reason to lie, all right? You wanted me to go after Sonny so you wouldn't get your hands dirty and possibly alienate your daughter.
John: Well, that's an interesting theory. Of course, I still haven't seen anything in the way of proof.
Ric: Ok, this is the way it's going to boil down. You either find a copy of that file or I'm going to charge your daughter with arson.
Carly: I'd appreciate an answer, and the simple truth will do here.
Steven: All right. John never mentioned stealing the file that Ricís using against Sonny.
Carly: Ok, that's a small relief. Now, I need to ask you something else, and I am trusting you for the truth on this one, too. Did John come here to get to know me, or was it all about putting Sonny in prison?
Steven: He came for Sonny.
Sonny: I know something about how you feel. I miss our little girl every minute. Sometimes, you know, I feel like --
Sam: Please, Sonny, just tell me.
Sonny: I just feel like -- like it was completely my fault that we lost her.
Sam: It's not your fault. There's nothing you could have done.
Sonny: No, there were the things; I could have done some things. You know, I could have reassured you, right, instead of always telling you my rights as a father, you know? I could have -- I don't know.
Sam: Look, Dr. Meadows said that there was nothing anyone could have done, that the abruptio placentae would have happened regardless. I just don't see how something so awful was meant to be, so --
Sonny: I don't know, yeah. I just realized I wasn't -- I wasn't there to help you out, and I just --
Sam: No, Sonny, you had your own pain to process.
Sonny: Well, I know but, you know --
Sam: Kristina getting so sick, I just -- I understand. I do.
Sonny: But the good thing is that you -- Jason was there for you. You weren't alone, hmm?
Sam: Jason's been incredible, consistent. Even when I tried to shut him out, he was still there. I don't really know how I would have gotten through the first few days without him.
Sonny: From what I understand, Jasonís going to be around as long as you need him. Well, I should be going.
Sam: Thanks for stopping by.
Sonny: I know you're probably thinking it's a lot easier for me because now I know that Kristinaís my daughter, but that's not true. No one can ever take the place of the child we lost.
Carly: So Sonny and Jason were right? My father, who I defended, is a lying snake who only came here to use me to destroy my husband and my family.
Steven: No, no, no, no. It's true. Initially, John came to work an angle against Sonny. But that was before he got to know his daughter. Carly, you have touched him in a way that no one else has.
Steven: He genuinely cares for you. He even loves you. And you got to believe me, you got to believe me. For John Durant, that is something that does not happen often, and it does not happen easily.
Carly: Ok, fine, fine, fine.
Steven: No, Carly, he does not want to lose you.
Carly: Fine! Well, say that I believe it, all right? Say that's true. It doesn't prove that he didn't steal that file. It only proves that he was slick enough to get it to Ric without alienating me. Then John Durant -- he can cover his tracks across the board. Does that sound like that could be what happened here?
Steven: Look, Carly, look --
Carly: You know, I'm only asking you because it's really important to me right now.
Steven: I think John is capable of maneuvering the situation. But whether or not he did in this case, I don't know. You have to ask him.
John: All right, look, I can certainly understand why you're desperate to get your hands on that file, but I can't help you, Lansing, because I never saw the damn thing. And as far as pressing charges against Carly for arson, I've already told you she was here with me when the fire in your apartment started.
Ric: Ok, I kind of figured you were going to stonewall. You really should run for office, Durant.
John: Oh, you know, maybe I would, except for I'm telling the truth.
Ric: Ok, well, we need to make that official. I need a sworn statement from you about your whereabouts with your daughter that night, including a detailed explanation of how you passed the time.
John: Hey, yeah, I got no problem with that. Set it up.
Ric: Well, we're going to do it right here and right now. See, Iím not going to give you and Carly a chance to synchronize your stories. I'm going to get a statement from you, then Iím going to get a statement from her. And if they differ, I mean, even slightly, then that means you, Carly, and Dr. Steven Webber are going to be in for one rough ride.
Steven: Carly, no, I do not like that look in your eyes. Carly, do not go say something to your father that you can't take back.
Carly: Ok, listen, it's really nice of you to worry about me, but please don't, ok? I already got what I came for, and I appreciate it, but I will take care of it from here, ok? You should get into bed anyway before you catch a draft or something.
Steven: What, what, you going to turn this around on me to make me conspicuous and feel ridiculous?
Carly: I will be in touch.
Ofc. Murphy: Carly Corinthos?
Ofc. Murphy: I was ordered to bring you downtown.
Carly: Yeah? For what?
Ofc. Murphy: The D.A. would like to speak to you about the fire inside his apartment.
Nikolas: It's not like I'm going on the run or anything. I just need enough time to marry you.
Emily: It's not worth risking what could happen.
Nikolas: It's worth it to me. Marrying you is the only thing that matters to me right now. Once that's done, I'll just -- you know, I'll just turn myself back in.
Emily: Right, unless something goes wrong, Nikolas, and you get hurt or killed trying to escape.
Elizabeth: Maybe there's another way.
Heather: I don't understand what just happened.
Luke: That's because you don't pay attention. You were supposed to wait for me to come back before you tried to kill anybody.
Heather: Why are you treating me like I'm the enemy here? Anything Iíve done or tried to make happen was out of love for you. Acting alone, trying to go after Edward -- that was to protect you. In case you missed it, I'm completely and totally in love with you. I thought you understood that.
Luke: Well, let's find out exactly what I do understand. I understand that you love me enough to kill Edward. You love me enough to ice-pick Detective Duncan and frame Skye for it. Do you love me enough to kidnap my wife from the nut farm and use her for cover? To frame her as a stalker and a killer? Was that for me, Heather? Was it?
Heather: Yes! Yes, all right! I did all that, and I'd do even more, whatever it takes to get back to who we were that beautiful Caribbean weekend. I've never forgotten it. You ruined me for any other man. Ok, let's forget about Edwardís money. Let's just run away together. We'll make our own money. We'll have a blast doing it.
Luke: There is only one thing that you can do for me, and that is tell me where my wife is.
Heather: I'd start being a little nicer to me if I were you, or you'll never see your precious Laura again.
Sonny: Why are you here?
Alexis: It's a legal matter. Is this a bad time?
Sonny: Now is as good a time as any.
Sam: How's Kristina?
Alexis: She's much better, Sam, thanks to you.
Sam: No need for any thanks, really.
Alexis: If there's anything that I can do for you --
Sam: I'm fine. Thank you.
Alexis: I checked the judge's calendar. He has an opening in two days, so I moved up the hearing.
Sonny: Alexis --
Alexis: I didn't think you'd have any objections.
Sonny: What's the big rush? You don't trust your blackmailing tactics? You getting a little nervous now that you, you know, you got to throw down with me?
Alexis: I've taken the liberty of preparing testimony for you. I've left no room for improvisation, so I'd like to go over it with you word for word. I need you to have the same mea culpa moment that you had with Carly and her sons, and then I need you to come to the conclusion that Kristina is safer with her mother and that her mother should retain full and permanent custody. No need for furtive looks. I'm quite certain that Sonny filled you in.
Jason: Yeah, on how you're blackmailing him to give up his daughter? Nice.
Alexis: If that look and that tone is supposed to make me feel like some sort of a monster, it doesn't. I'm acting in the best interest of Kristina, and Iím quite certain that if you were in my place you would be making this so-called blackmail look like child's play.
Elizabeth: I hope this works.
Lucky: Well, if it doesn't, I may call my dad.
Elizabeth: Luke? What's he going to do?
Lucky: He has more experience than anyone I know in creative ways to get out of tight situations, if you catch my drift.
Elizabeth: No -- no, no, Lucky, that's a terrible idea. You'd be the first person that Ric and Mac look at if Nikolas just suddenly disappears. You're an officer of the law, Lucky. It's called a career. Don't jeopardize it. You've done plenty for Nikolas. Just let it be enough.
Lucky: It wouldn't be just Nikolas I'd be helping.
Elizabeth: Right. Of course. Emily's involved, too.
Emily: We're not mounting some elaborate scheme to run away. All we want to do is get married, Mac.
Mac: It's my understanding the judge already turned you down.
Emily: He did, but Elizabeth suggested that we come to you.
Mac: I'm flattered, but I'm afraid I don't have as much influence as you might think.
Emily: Maybe you underestimate yourself, Mac. I mean, everyone knows how fair and balanced you are. And if you made a personal appeal to the judge on our behalf, then he might at least consider changing his mind. Helena did everything in her evil power to make sure that Nikolas and I never became husband and wife. Just please help us win this small victory, Mac, and convince the judge to let us have a proper ceremony -- outside this place.
Mac: I can't make any promises, but I'll ask.
Nikolas: Thank you.
Emily: So much.
Mac: You can thank me when Iíve done something.
Nikolas: Listen, no matter what happens with all this, no matter where I go, I promise that Iíll love you forever, ok?
Luke: Where is Laura?
Heather: I realize you still love her, but Lauraís gone, Luke. She can't take in your love. She's moved so far inside herself she can't be reached, and you should move on, too. Let me make you happy. I know I can. Is that so distasteful to you?
Luke: Where's my wife? Where is she? Where is she?
Edward: Luke --
Skye: Luke --
Edward: Luke, get off of her!
Skye: Stop it!
Edward: What in the hell is going on?
Luke: I'll tell you what's going on. You're lucky to be breathing, for one thing. She admitted it all. She killed Duncan, she framed you, and she kidnapped Laura!
Heather: Nobody make a move or this is one dead redhead!
Luke: All right -- all right, you want to talk about this. I understand. We'll do that, but let Skye go. She has nothing to do with this, Heather. This is between you and me.
Heather: You've made your personal feelings towards me abundantly clear. There's no point in further discussion. It's sad, really, because you and I could have had it all.
Edward: Heather, please. You don't want to do this. Let Skye go. You make a run for it. We'll make sure you get a head start. Please.
Heather: I don't think so because, you see, I don't trust either one of you. And as long as I have this one here -- oh, yeah -- I know you won't make a move on me until --
Heather: Until I figure out what to do. I just need time to think. And if I even so much as suspect you're following me, this one's dead!
Luke: I'll go this way!
Sonny: So Alexis pushed up the date of the custody hearing, so now we got to be in court by the end of the week.
Jason: And Ric is pressuring Durant for a copy of that file. Obviously, Durant denies having it, but I put a bug in his room, so we're going to know the truth soon enough.
Sonny: Unlike my clueless brother, who's running around like a lunatic trying to get his hands on a file that his own wife is using to blackmail me. Who says there's no justice? Ric made a marriage straight out of hell. Anything else we should know at this point?
Jason: Yeah. Ric told Durant that if he didn't come up with a copy of the file that he was going to have Carly arrested for arson.
Sonny: Ok, you know what? We need proof that Durant stole that file and put it in Ricís hands before everything blows sky-high, because you know, at this moment, anything can happen.
Jason: Yeah, yeah.
Jason: Ok, I realize that. Stan's on the surveillance --
Jason: On Durantís room. I'm just going to -- I'm going to tail Durant myself.
Sonny: Ok. There's something I need you to take care of first.
Jason: Sonny told me that he found you in the nursery. Sam, you didn't have to do it alone.
Sam: Well, I did what I had to do.
Jason: Ok. You want to rest? You haven't been out of the hospital that long.
Sam: No, no, I'm not resting, and neither are you, because we have some work to do.
Ric: Carly. Thanks for coming down.
Carly: Yeah, like I had a choice.
Ric: Well, actually, you're right; you didn't, no more than your father did.
Carly: What does John have to do with this?
Ric: Well, this is your alibi provided by John Durant for the night that my apartment went up in flames. Now, what I want from you is your version of the events during that time, and if there appears even the slightest discrepancy between his story and yours, Iím going to charge you with arson.
Ric: What time did you meet John Durant?
Carly: Not sure. It was dark. 6:30 or so?
John: What time was it? Well, let's see -- evening news was on, so it would make it, what, half past 6:00.
Ric: Where did you meet?
Carly: My father's hotel room.
John: We met here.
Ric: What were you wearing?
Carly: Black sweater and black pants.
John: She was wearing pants and a black -- I think it was a turtleneck. I didn't really see her shoes, but -- boots, maybe, boots.
Carly: John invited me over to look at some old family photos.
John: Well, I've been anxious to show Carly more family photos. We talked about it and -- in particular, I wanted to show her her Cousin Rosemary and her Great-aunt Gwen.
Carly: My Cousin Rosemary lived in Florida, so close to me we probably ran into each other without even knowing it. And my father -- he's got an Aunt Gwen and she lives in Chicago. She owns a restaurant there.
John: It's a jazz club and restaurant called the Brassy Buckle. It's still there if you want to check it out.
Ric: Did you and your father get a bite to eat during this family stroll down memory lane?
Carly: No. Does this mean I passed the test?
Ric: Yes. You should be commended. You and your father work very well together --
Ric: Though Iím not surprised. You know what they say about the apple not falling far from the tree.
Carly: Oh, so loosely translated, does that mean you've got no grounds to keep me here?
Ric: Get out of here, Carly.
Carly: Didn't think so.
Alexis: What was that about?
Ric: Nothing. And that's the point. The file incriminating Sonny has either been burned or somebody stole it. Either way, no file, no case. With the custody trial coming up, it just allows Sonny to go for an end run for Kristina. I'm sorry, Iím sorry. Look, I just believe that there is a copy of that file floating around somewhere, and I am going to do everything I can to find it.
Alexis: No. In fact, I want you to stop looking for it.
Skye: Well, ah -- back to the scene of the crime, huh? Where you held me hostage and made me think it was Laura who was terrorizing me. All the work you're doing, Heather, all the work you're still doing, and for what? Huh?
Heather: You know for what -- for Luke.
Skye: Luke doesn't want you, Heather.
Heather: You think he wants you? Come out of your fantasy land, sweetheart. It's all Lauraís fault.
Skye: Laura? What did Laura do?
Heather: She's Laura. She breathes. She's the perfect creature, Lukeís angel. She has a lock on his heart and she always will. And if you think you can go any further with him than I did, you can't, because Lauraís made it impossible for any other woman to have a chance with Luke. Oh, there might be the occasional weekend here or there. But anything solid, long-term, something you could build a future on? Forget it. Luke wants Laura. That's all there is to it, no matter how many hoops fools like you and I jump through. There's nothing we can do. You know how much time Iíve spent; the risks Iíve taken? And what do I have to show for it? Nothing! Nothing!
Skye: You know, I have to say I do admire your ingenuity.
Heather: What did you say to me?
Skye: Well, I'm just giving credit where credit is due, Heather. You've been diabolically brilliant. You've been one step ahead of everybody all the time.
Heather: Well, I've always tried to make it my business to think ahead.
Skye: I'm just curious, you know? You got Laura out of that sanitarium. That was a huge undertaking. Tell me -- tell me something. How did you do that?
Heather: She's catatonic. She didn't put up much of a fight. But then again, you won't be able to, either.
Skye: Ah! Ah!
Heather: Bye-bye, Skye. Nighty-night.
Mac: I thought you should be together to hear this.
Nikolas: Well, tell us.
Mac: You can be married on Wednesday as planned.
Nikolas: That's awesome.
Emily: The judge agreed?
Nikolas: Thank you.
Mac: I was at my most persuasive.
Nikolas: Thank you so much, Mac. Thank you.
Mac: Listen, you're going to be under close, close armed guard. You can have a ceremony and some time together after.
Emily: Thank you, Mac. You have no idea how much this means to us.
Mac: Congratulations. I'm glad it worked out.
Nikolas: Thank you.
Emily: Thanks. I can't believe it's really happening!
Elizabeth: Well, believe it, because we have a lot of work to do by Wednesday.
Lucky: But with Elizabeth and me to help, you won't lack a thing.
Emily: It's really happening.
Nikolas: I know.
Emily: We're finally getting married.
Max: Is that the last of it?
Jason: Yeah, just make sure people get it who need it, ok?
Sam: Wait. Wait, wait.
Max: Hey, is Sam going to be all right?
Jason: Yeah, you know, eventually. It's just really hard right now.
Sam: I was going to keep it, but --
Max: My sister works with foster care. She'll make sure nothing goes to waste.
Sam: Ok. Will you thank her for me?
Max: Yeah. Will do.
Jason: Sam, it's not too late to stop Max if you don't want to let go of the baby's things right now.
Sam: There's no reason to keep them, Jason.
Jason: Are you ok?
Sam: Yeah. No. I'm screaming inside and Iím just trying not to hear it, you know? I've had a lot of difficult things to deal with in my life, but nothing has ever been quite this bad.
Jason: I understand.
Sam: I know you do. I have never had anyone show me more kindness and understanding than you have. I want to thank you so much.
Jason: I guess I'm just going to go upstairs.
Sam: Go ahead.
Jason: What are you going to do?
Sam: I'm going to stay down here. I'll be fine. Really. Go.
Sonny: Meyer, come on in. Have a seat, have a seat. How about a brandy, Meyer?
Meyer: That would hit the spot. Thank you.
Sonny: Don't mention it. Here you go.
Meyer: You going to join me?
Sonny: No, no. I -- I just -- I want to focus on tracking this incriminating file. I'm having a hard time, Meyer, understanding the chain of events. So you said you came here, right, with the file? You put it on my desk?
Meyer: Yes, sir.
Sonny: Well, I come here, right? I don't see it. I don't see the file anywhere. I look and, you know, I don't see it. But two days later you suddenly find it, lickety-split. And then all of a sudden, I get busted, based on the exact information that was in that file. Is that like a coincidence to you or what, Meyer?
Meyer: I -- I suppose.
Sonny: You want me to tell you what I think went down?
Sonny: I think someone made copies of that file when the original went missing, right? Then they brought it -- someone brought it -- they brought it here so it would magically reappear. Does that theory sound feasible to you?
Meyer: Well, I -- I don't really know, because I didn't --
Sonny: Now, Meyer, you better answer this very carefully. You gave that file to Durant, didn't you?
[Knock on door]
Carly: Congratulations. It worked.
John: Excellent. What worked?
Carly: Ric called me into the station for questioning -- on my alibi, where I was the night of the fire, and he was grilling me the whole time, waiting to pounce on me if our answers didn't match up, but miraculously, they did.
John: Oh. Well, that is excellent. Great.
Carly: Mm-hmm. Yep. You know what also helped, though, right, that you were showing me the pictures of the family and everything?
Carly: I will say, though, it tripped me up a little bit when he asked me if we'd had anything to eat.
John: You said no?
Carly: Just like you.
John: Great minds.
Carly: I don't know. I don't know if it was that or if it was the way that Ric asked me the question. It kind of seemed like it was a trick, and I just thought the safest thing to say would be no.
John: Oh, you got good instincts, just like your old man!
Carly: Ok. Of course, you did know what Ric was going to do. You were right, and it did save me from going to prison for arson. I don't know how Iím going to thank you.
John: Hey, you don't have to thank me. Besides, I get the feeling you're here for something else. Something else is bothering you, right?
Carly: Yeah, actually, but I think you know what it is. It's the file that almost sent Sonny to prison for life.
Ric: I don't get it. That file contains strong evidence and enough RICO violations to put Sonny away for the rest of his life, which solves the custody issue. Alexis, no sane judge in the country is going to give Kristina to somebody who's facing sentencing in Pentonville. Why are you stalling me on this?
Alexis: I think that he's going to back down at the last minute, just like he did with Carly and the boys.
Ric: Well, I think you're wrong. I mean, in that case, Sonny still loved Carly. It's a different situation with you.
Alexis: He did what was best for the children, and I think this is all going to work out.
Ric: Oh, my God. You have the file, don't you?
Luke: No sign of either one of them.
Edward: Time to call the police.
Luke: No! Edward, no cops. Heather's future just blew up in her face. She's got nothing left to lose now. If she's cornered, two lives are in danger -- Skyeís and Lauraís. That's a risk we can't take.
Heather: I could have killed you, you know? I still might. After all, you blatantly tried to take Luke away from me.
Skye: Oh, Luke was never yours to take, Heather.
Heather: Oh, he's been mine since the day we met. He's my husband. He loves me, only me.
Skye: Did you say your husband?
Heather: You must still be too groggy from the medication I gave you to realize who you're talking to. I noticed you called me Heather.
Skye: What else would I call you?
Heather: Try my name. Skye, take a closer look. It's me, Laura.
Meyer: I swear, Mr. Corinthos, I didn't steal that file, and I never gave it to Durant. He -- he just had it. I -- I don't know how. But he handed it to me, and he said that if I put it back he'd keep me away from any fallout. I'm an accountant. My work is with numbers. I -- I was scared so I did what he wanted. I see now that I made a grave mistake, but at the time doing what Durant wanted seemed like the only solution.
Sonny: I need to be able to trust the people that I employ, Meyer. If I can't, they're useless.
Meyer: Please don't kill me. There must be something I can do to make this right.
Sonny: Yeah. We might be able to work something out, Meyer.
Meyer: Anything. You just name it, I'll do it.
Sonny: You bring me proof of what you just told me -- that Durant came here and stole that file and gave it to Ric -- and I'll let you live.
Meyer: Thank you, sir. Thank you.
Sonny: Now get out of here. One more thing, Meyer. If you think you can just disappear, right, I want you to remember something. Bam -- no bullets.
Carly: Look, I asked Steven point-blank if you were capable of stealing the evidence from Sonny and giving it to Ric.
John: Carly, why? Why would I do something like that?
Carly: So Ric could prosecute Sonny and I'd never know that you were really behind it. Look, Steven told me that if I wanted to know the truth, I should ask you. So Iím asking you, did you steal the file from Sonny and give it to Ric?
Ric: So somehow after the fire you got into my filing cabinet and you took the evidence against Sonny. You're using it to blackmail him into giving up custody of Kristina.
Alexis: That's right. That's exactly what I did.
Ric: You need to give me that file, Alexis.
Alexis: No. What if you can't make the charges stick?
Ric: Oh, well, thanks for the vote of confidence.
Alexis: This isn't a personal attack. This is from bitter experience. You are not the first person that thought they had Sonny cornered only for him to walk out of prison and back into his life. If he manages to maneuver his way out of this, he will take Kristina. But if I have that file, he understands that he needs to cooperate, and if he doesn't, I will hand the file over to you. There isn't a doubt in my mind that he wouldn't give up Kristina to stay out of prison.
Ric: What did you promise him in return?
Alexis: Once I get full custody, the files disappear. However, I have no intention of honoring that agreement.
Alexis: Once Kristina is safe, Iíll hand the file to you, and you can prosecute him to the full extent of the law.
Ric: You realize you're talking about open betrayal against Sonny, right?
Alexis: I understand that.
Ric: Do you really? Do you really know what you're risking here?
Alexis: I will risk my life, but I won't risk my daughter's. You want me to be fair? You want me to be ethical? Do you think Sonny's going to be fair? Do you think the courts are going to be ethical? I need to do whatever is necessary to keep Kristina safe from Sonny's world, and my chances of doing that improve immeasurably if he is out of the picture for good.
>> On the next "General Hospital" --
Emily: I'm getting married today.
Nikolas: I've never been more sure of anything in my life.
Alexis: I just want this to be over.
Ric: I think there's a way to make it go faster.
John: Your backstabbing didn't work. Carly believes me.
Carly: He did not steal the file.
