General Hospital Transcript Thursday 5/20/04

Georgie: You can't give up directing, Dillon. It's your dream.
Dillon: Sage is in the hospital right now with a sprained knee and damaged voice because of me, ok?
Georgie: It's not your fault, Dillon!
Ned: It was an accident, all right? Look, there's absolutely no reason for you to pull out of L&B. I thought you wanted a singing career for your niece.
Lorenzo: I should have placed Sage with a label that made her a priority.
Emily: Don't -- don't you think you're overreacting just a little bit? I mean, you saw potential in Ned and Dillon and Sage. Isn't it time you invested your money in something worthwhile for a change?
Lorenzo: What, you don't approve of how I spend my money?
Emily: Truthfully, no.
Lorenzo: And you feel you're in a position to make that judgment?
Emily: Well, I have an excellent basis for comparison. For most of his life, Nikolas was far wealthier than you, and he put his money to much better use.
Nikolas: I'll see you after work, ok?
Nikolas: Hey -- why did you just take off your engagement ring?
Carly: Damn it! Jason, what are you doing?
Jason: I'm about to stop you from doing something stupid.
Courtney: Carly, Jasonís right. Switching the D.N.A. samples -- it'll never work.
Carly: I told you what I was going to do and you said it was a great idea. How can you turn on me now? You both know why I have to do this.
Sonny: Are you in any pain?
Sam: No, I'm fine. It hurt a little, but I'll be ok.
Jax: How soon can we get the results?
Dr. Meadows: I'll need a blood sample from both you and Mr. Corinthos, and I'll tell the lab to analyze it immediately. We should know by this evening which one of you is the baby's father.
Ned: It's ok, Em. I can hammer this out with Mr. Alcazar.
Lorenzo: Your fiancť, Nikolas, always struck me as a man of integrity and principle.
Emily: Are you always this polite? See, Nikolas was. Good manners were a reflex with him. He could be furious and never let it show.
Lorenzo: I'm not furious.
Lorenzo: In fact, you've given me a lot to think about.
Emily: I hope you'll reconsider pulling out of L&B.
Ned: I'm actually prepared to offer a little incentive for your continued involvement with L&B.
Lorenzo: I'm listening.
Ned: I know that you and E.L.Q. are bidding on the same shipping contract. I will provide you with E.L.Q.'s offer so you can be sure that you come in with a lower bid.
Lorenzo: In other words, you don't like the way your mother's running E.L.Q. and you hope she fails.
Ned: Does it really matter what my motives are? I am giving you an excellent opportunity to reap millions in profits.
Lorenzo: This conversation is over, as is my investment in L&B. You'll have to find another way to wage war with your own family.
Dillon: If I'd just been paying attention, you know, Sage wouldn't have gotten hurt.
Georgie: You can't just give up, Dillon.
Dillon: This was my first big gig, Georgie, and I blew it. I blew it. Who was I to think that I could be a director? I'm a high school student, you know?
Georgie: So was Steven Spielberg when he started
Dillon: Oh -- come on. I'm no Spielberg. I don't have the talent, I don't have the training, I don't have the instincts. It's over. I'm done, ok? I'm quitting!
Georgie: It wasn't your fault, Dillon! It wasn't even an accident. I set it up.
Nikolas: You know, if you don't -- if you don't like that one, we can get -- we can get another one.
Mary: Oh, no. The ring is perfect.
Nikolas: Then what is it?
Mary: If people see this engagement ring, they're going to ask me about it. I can't take the chance of people finding out you're still alive, or -- or what you risked for me by walking away from the marines. I love this ring, and I love you. And I wish I could stand on a hilltop and -- and shout that we're together and -- and that life is wonderful.
Nikolas: It's ok. It's ok. Just leave it off for now, ok? I'm making good money with this job with Mr. Alcazar. It'll afford us a lot of opportunities and -- and freedom, and I'll be able to take you on that incredible honeymoon we talked about. Someplace where we don't have to hide anymore. Ok?
Mary: I'm not in a hurry. As long as I have you, I'm happy.
Nikolas: See you at home.
Nikolas: Hello. I'm in the park. I'll wait for you here.
Carly: You were always telling me how much Sonny and I belong together, and that you would do anything for us. So here's your chance to prove it.
Courtney: Ok, Carly, you're twisting this around.
Carly: Courtney, you know that this is the only way. You know that Sonny will move heaven and earth to provide for at child if it turns out to be his. And he is going to be committed to it for the rest of its life, even if it means that he's going to destroy the family that he already has.
Courtney: But, Carly, you are wonderful with children. I know that you can find it in your heart to care for this baby.
Carly: Oh, the baby? Ok, what about the mother? Sam's not going to disappear. This is all part of her scheme to worm her way into Sonny's life, to trap him --
Jason: Carly, you're wrong.
Carly: To do what --
Jason: You're wrong.
Carly: I forgot. You're Samís new best friend.
Jason: Huh, no. Sam made a mistake; the exact same one you made twice. So try to have a little compassion.
Carly: I got pregnant by accident, Jason. And Sam did it deliberately because she knew that there would be no way Sonny could turn his back on a child. And, you -- you know that Sam is a cold-blooded schemer, and how you could ever go to Jason with it, I am not going to understand.
Jason: She did not, ok? I know you better than anyone and I know when you heard there was a paternity test, you'd be right at this lab to try to tamper with the results.
Carly: So if you know me so well, then you know that it's right.
Jason: How can you even think about handing that baby over to Jax if it turns out to be Sonny's?
Carly: Because I am trying to protect Sonny and my children from -- from Sam.
Carly: And I don't know why you're worried. Because if -- if the baby is -- I -- Jax will take care of it. Right? He will get everything -- the best of everything.
Jason: Sonny's going to find out. He always does. It's going to cause another fight and it's going to blow your life with Sonny apart.
Carly: It's already happening, Jason, because I know in my heart that Samís baby is Sonnyís.
Dr. Meadows: I'll take the amnio and blood samples to the lab personally. Now you get some rest.
Sonny: It's all going to work out.
Jax: How can you be so sure?
Sonny: Because I'm going to make it work.
Jax: By helping Sam keep the child away from me, even if it's mine?
Sonny: If that's what Sam wants, that's what Sam gets.
Jax: And that will work for whom, Sonny? The family that you already have? The child that won't know its biological father? Sam, who's already acknowledged by her actions she has absolutely no business being a mother?
Sam: Excuse me, I was trying to do what is best for my child.
Jax: The one person you want this to work for is you, isn't it? I mean, you're so wrapped up in fatherhood, you want to start collecting children that aren't even yours.
Sonny: And you know how to be a father, mate?
Sam: Oh, come on -- no, no! Stop it!
Sonny: You want to -- you want to buy this kid --
Sam: Both of you!
Sonny: Like real estate?
Jax: No, if the kid is mine, then I want to raise it --
Sonny: Yeah, you want to raise it! You're the center of your own universe! Right?
Sam: No -- now! Get out! Both of you, just get out.
Sonny: I'm sorry, Sam --
Sam: Sonny, I can't deal with this right now.
Jax: Oh, yeah, yeah.
Sonny: All right, all right, all right.
Jax: I'm going.
Bobbie: Excuse me -- Carly? Ahem -- so, that's where my scrubs and my lab coat disappeared to. You want to tell me why?
Carly: Why bother? It didn't work.
Bobbie: Ok, start talking. What's been going on while I've been out of town?
Carly: Well, let's see -- Sonny's girlfriend, Sam -- she's pregnant.
Bobbie: Is Sonny definitely the father?
Carly: I don't know. It's either Sonny or Jax. They're doing a D.N.A. test right now, and if it turned out that Sonny was the father, I was going to switch the results.
Bobbie: Well, thank God you thought better of that.
Carly: Yeah. Thank Jason and Courtney, because they ambushed me on my way to the lab.
Bobbie: Honey, I've always been a big believer in fighting for love, but I think you've reached the point of diminishing returns. Sonny's treated you terribly.
Carly: I'd have to agree.
Bobbie: Then let go, sweetheart. You owe it to yourself and to your kids. Leave Sonny now because you'll all be better off. Ok. It's all right, honey. It's all right.
Nikolas: I assume that this is about the next job.
Lorenzo: Well, you said you didn't want to be involved in anything illegal.
Nikolas: Yeah. Is that a problem?
Lorenzo: A question of semantics. I need you to get some information for me.
Nikolas: What kind of information?
Lorenzo: Confidential. But it requires breaking and entering.
Georgie: Dillon, you're blaming yourself for Sage getting hurt when -- when you had nothing to do with it. I'm the one who set up the accident.
Georgie: Because I thought Sage would be this no-talent. And even when Alcazar came to Ned and said that he wanted to be the back, I thought he was just buying Sage her 15 minutes of fame. I didn't think that she would be any good. And -- and I thought that you and I would laugh about it, and it would be this -- this big inside joke about your first big break, but then she opened her mouth and started to sing, and she was really good. I'm talking really good. And she was the exact 1940s glamour queen that you wanted.
Dillon: I thought you wanted this to work out for me!
Georgie: I did, Dillon, but then I saw you and Sage talking, and I got so jealous. And you -- you guys were sharing this vision. And I was just an outsider. And it -- it made me crazy. And I -- I just wanted the paint to spill on Sage, that's all.
Dillon: Like in "Carrie."
Georgie: It was paint, Dillon, not blood. I wanted her to throw one of her little diva snits, and I never meant for her to get hurt, Dillon. I never meant for her to strain her vocal cords. Look, I'm really sorry. And then you must think I'm this snake or a paranoid wacko!
Ned: All right, what the hell happened? What happened? What's going on?
Georgie: This is not Dillonís fault, it's --
Dillon: Georgie, don't cover for me. It was completely my fault.
Sonny: I didn't expect to see you.
Carly: Well -- um -- I came to tamper with the D.N.A. test results, because I wanted to make sure that they said that Jax was the father. But Courtney and Jason stopped me. Jason knew me well enough to know that I was going to do that, and they headed me off at the pass.
Sonny: So you didn't switch the results?
Carly: No, and I'm glad. I am, because I realize that lying isn't the solution; honesty is. And so here is the truth. If it turns out that the baby is yours, I am leaving you.
Dillon: I was too focused on getting the shot.
Georgie: Yeah, but, Dillon, I -- I could have showed --
Dillon: Georgie, it's not your job, it's mine. Look, I told Sage to move back. I knew that she was getting under the ladder. I ignored it because I had the angle I wanted. Next thing I know, the ladder started to wobble. It was a dumb move. It was stupid.
Ned: You know what? It was my mistake, because I gave you too much responsibility too soon. Because now Sage can't perform, and Alcazar has pulled his funding. And now I'm back to square one.
Dillon: I'm so sorry, man. If there's anything you want me to do about it, I will just --
Ned: No, don't worry about it. I will get another backer, and I will find another singer. And then I'll hire a seasoned director who knows what they're doing, and you can assist.
Dillon: Yeah. No -- yeah, ok.
Ned: In the meantime, get back to the studio and clean up the mess.
Georgie: I cannot believe you just did that.
Dillon: Whew! Ok. Yeah, I must have broken some kind of record there. Went from director to maintenance worker in one second flat.
Lorenzo: Just need you to get into the Quartermaine house, search for files, memos, documents and anything pertaining to E.L.Q.'s bid on a shipping contract for I.B.G. It's a South American company. They manufacture heavy machinery.
Nikolas: Is it a front?
Lorenzo: No. The company's legitimate. I've done business with them before. I own a large fleet. We do a lot of international transport. You're free to decline, of course. Just a matter of weighing the risks and rewards.
Nikolas: Is this another test?
Lorenzo: Not at all.
Nikolas: Ok, first I was a courier. Now, we're moving up to breaking and entering. How far across the line will you be asking me to go, Mr. Alcazar?
Lorenzo: The limits of your participation are up to you.
Nikolas: Ok. I don't have a problem looking for some business partners.
Lorenzo: Good. This is for you. Whatever happens, do not get caught.
Emily: Mary. Hi.
Emily: Can I ask you a favor?
Emily: Can you cover for me? I'm feeling kind of shaky, and I just -- I'd like to go home early.
Mary: Are you getting sick?
Emily: Yeah -- no, I'm just missing Nikolas. Um -- sometimes the grief comes out of nowhere, and I just need a little time.
Mary: Of course, I'd be happy to cover for you. Go ahead.
Emily: Thank you. I appreciate it.
Mary: It's the least I can do, Emily.
Emily: All right. Bye.
Jax: I take it you're waiting to hear the results of the paternity test.
Courtney: Well, you probably think it's none of my business.
Jax: No, you have -- no, you have the right to be curious. If Sonny turns out to be the father, then you're going to be an aunt again.
Courtney: Huh. Sonny disowned me, in case you haven't heard.
Jax: I'm sure that's not going to stop you from being part of the child's life. I've seen you with Michael and Morgan. You're great with them.
Courtney: So what about you? I mean, have you thought about what it's going to mean if you do turn out to be the father, or how the baby's going to change your life?
Jax: Whatever complications arise, I'll take care of them.
Courtney: Oh. You sound so cool, but I know that you want the baby to be yours.
Courtney: You know, so do I, for a lot of reasons.
Alexis: Hey. There you are.
Alexis: Listen, I need to -- I'm trying to get an injunction so that Ric can't investigate the foundation, so I have some paperwork --
Jax: Oh, no, I'm -- Alexis, this is going to have to wait.
Alexis: If the timing is bad, it's not my fault.
Jax: Can you not handle Lansing yourself?
Alexis: I'm doing this on your behalf. Unless, of course, you're not interested in being part of that foundation that she's doing.
Jax: No, no, no -- of course I am. I just -- I have other priorities right now. I'm waiting to find out if I'm going to be a father.
Sonny: I made a promise to God. You agreed to go along with it.
Carly: Yeah, but you can't keep me to that promise anymore, because Samís pregnancy changes everything.
Sonny: Well, it doesn't have to. I'm committed to my family.
Carly: Yeah? You say that you and I know you feel that now, but you're going to watch Sam carrying that baby. And your feelings are going to change.
Carly: Yeah, and I don't want to compete with her. I don't want to be angry or resentful. It's not good for us, Sonny. It's certainly not good for Michael and Morgan. And the whole reason we're doing this is for the boys, so they can be happy.
Sonny: They're happy now with two parents together. I don't -- I mean, what more do you -- do we want here?
Carly: I cannot -- I cannot watch you tear yourself in two trying to choose between Sam and her baby and me and the boys. I'm going to choose for myself instead. I'm not going to lie. I'm not going to scheme and try and save something that's already gone. If the baby turns out to be yours, then it's got to be the end, and we just have to face it and we have to let it go.
Sonny: I won't give up my family.
Carly: You don't have to.
Sonny: I know.
Carly: Listen, you can see Michael and Morgan whenever you want -- weekends, dinners, Sonny, whenever you want. You are a wonderful father. I've always said that. And -- you can see them.
Sonny: Not good enough, Carly.
Carly: Well, it's going to have to be.
Sonny: Well, you know what? You don't -- you don't get to make the decisions for our children. I mean, it's like -- what are you --
Jax: When I found out Sam was pregnant, she ran off. I tracked her to a convent in Costa Rica, where she was going to put the child up for adoption. Now, Sonny and I wouldn't consent to that, so she came back to Port Charles and today she had an amnio. We're waiting for the D.N.A. test results to determine who the father is -- Sonny or me.
Alexis: And what if it's yours?
Jax: I offered Sam money to get full custody.
Alexis: Did she accept that?
Jax: No, not yet, but I'm sure she will.
Alexis: So you've decided to buy the baby and it doesn't need its mother?
Jax: No. You see, she's not acting in the child's best interest, and I don't think that's going to change. Now, if I'm the father, I'm responsible for that child's welfare. Sam has nothing good to offer this baby. It'd be better off for all of us if she just took the money and left town.
Alexis: What, are you taking misogyny classes from Sonny? You sound just like him. I mean, just the -- I mean, there's just absolutely no discussion at all about --
Courtney: Well, Alexis, Sonny happens to be a great father, and I'm sure Jax would be, too, if given the opportunity. He's just trying to do what's right.
Jax: Thank you.
Alexis: Does the mother even rate a mention in anybody's impassioned speech about fatherhood?
Courtney: I can't speak for Sam or how involved she plans to be, but I do know how important it is for a child to have a father. And whoever the father does turn out to be, he deserves to be in his child's life.
Sonny: What are you here to pray for?
Jason: I'm not sure. But I guess that Michael and Morgan don't get hurt by all this.
Sonny: I don't see how to avoid it, Jason. If the baby's mine, Carlyís going to leave me.
Jason: Since when?
Sonny: About five minutes ago.
Jason: Well, five minutes before that, I just caught her in the lab trying to -- trying to rig the test to make Jax the father. She doesn't want your marriage to be over, Sonny.
Sonny: And neither do I, ok? For a lot of reasons; one being the promise I made to God, to Michael. What are the alternatives?
Jason: Well -- I mean, Jax could still be the father.
Sonny: They slept together once. I slept with her maybe five, ten times. We were careful, but you do the math. The child's mine.
Jason: Well, do you want it to be?
Sonny: I don't know if I do. I don't -- right now, you know? I promised myself I would never father a child I couldn't take care of, but right now, my situation with Carlyís not very good. You know that. But what am I supposed to do? Give up Michael and Morgan so I can raise Samís child? Let Carly just take my children out of the house; break up their home, when they just got back? I can fight her for custody. We can go back into the courthouse -- the whole thing.
Jason: No, Sonny, you know you can't do that.
Sonny: Well, what am I supposed to do? You tell me, Jason. Which one of my children am I supposed to give up?
Sam: Oh, go away. Carly, I cannot handle another fight with you right now, ok?
Carly: It's your lucky day. I've just withdrawn from the competition.
Sam: Right. That's why you're here getting in my face.
Carly: Oh, trust me, Sam; I have never been in your face. And it turns out I never will. Although, trust me, I do admit that my first instinct was to trash your life, and you do deserve it. But I thought to myself, "Really, what is the point?" I don't need to give you another excuse to play the victim, because of poor, pregnant Samís being picked on by big, bad, vindictive Carly.
Sam: I am not playing anything. Sonny told me you got pregnant by accident. Why can't you believe I did, too?
Carly: Let's see -- the timing, the obvious benefits of having Sonny's child, the fact that you're a grifter who managed to sleep with Jax for months with no problem. And then, oops, you just wind up pregnant the minute that you end up in Sonny's bed.
Sam: I don't have to defend my actions to you.
Carly: Tell me something -- what is it that you think you feel for Sonny? Is it true love?
Sam: Oh, go to hell, Carly!
Carly: Seriously, I hope that you do love him. Because you will deserve what you get. He will never, ever love you back.
Sam: Why is that? Because he'll always love you?
Carly: No, it actually doesn't have anything to do with me. It has to do with what you profoundly lack -- generosity, strength, empathy, the ability to look at some things that are really ugly and not turn away. You're fluff, Sam, and I really do hope that you break your heart over Sonny, because it'll be exactly what you deserve.
Georgie: Dillon, why wouldn't you let me tell Ned that it was my fault?
Dillon: Because I would rather miss out on my chance to be a director than not being able to see you again.
Georgie: I don't get it.
Dillon: Ok, all right, your parents, right? If they -- if they found out that you were behind the whole Sage sabotage thing, they would -- they would take that as proof that I'm a juvenile delinquent and I'm corrupting their teenage daughter, and they wouldn't let you ever see me, ok
Georgie: How could they possibly blame you for something that isn't even your fault, that you had nothing to do with? That's completely crazy, Dillon.
Dillon: Maybe it's not, Georgie.
Jason: The baby won't be born for months, ok? Nothing has to be decided tonight.
Sonny: What's going to change?
Jason: Well, Carlyís going to change.
Jason: Ok? She's hurt; she's angry, Sonny. But right now, this baby is a good excuse for her just to give up on your marriage.
Sonny: Well, she has every right. And you know what? So do I.
Jason: Carly doesn't want to give up. Seriously, Sonny, I -- I think that she's still in love with you, ok? You might not agree with that, but Carly wouldn't be with you if she didn't want to be. You know Carly's out for Carly. Yeah, she loves those boys. She would die for them, she would kill for them, but -- but she assumes whatever works for her works for them. She wants to stay with you. You just got to give her that time to figure it out.
Sonny: There is no time. They're running the paternity test right now. When it comes back, I'm going to go tell Carly, because it's what I got to do, Jason. Should I call Max and tell him not to let her take the kids out of the house? Or should I have Max go with her --
Jason: Michael can't take another fight right now.
Sonny: Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. It's going to break his heart. Worst than that, it's going to break his faith in me. No child should have to grow up not being able to trust his parents. Mike used to do the same thing to me. He used to lie to me all the time, and, you know, he'd say we were going to do things, and then he'd forget. He'd say he's going to stay home. A couple weeks later, he'd be gone. Makes you cold inside. I always said that I didn't -- I did not want Michael to ever look at me like I looked at my own damn father.
Jason: Michael loves you.
Jason: Maybe he'll forgive you.
Sonny: I wouldnít. You need to help him. Figure out a way to minimize the damage. Just be there for him.
Jason: I promise. I'll do whatever I can for Michael.
Dillon: You know, it is -- is partially my fault that you sabotaged Sage. We -- we had something. We had something real, we had something special, and -- and it got a little rocky along the way. Instead of hanging in there -- instead of working through it, I went and I -- and I slept with her. All right, now, maybe -- maybe you feel like you can't trust me. Maybe you feel like you have to -- to --
Georgie: To what?
Dillon: I don't know. I don't know. Maybe to -- to play games, to manipulate. Do whatever you can to keep me from being with her again.
Georgie: It's Sage I don't trust, not you, Dillon.
Dillon: You know what? In the beginning, Georgie, you never would have been this insecure. You never would have.
Georgie: I know. And I know that I messed things up really bad for -- for you, for me, and for Sage, and for us. And I'm so sorry for that.
Dillon: Me, too. Don't -- don't touch -- just leave that. Leave that, ok? I'll -- I'll get it. I'll -- I will clean it up later.
[Door opens and closes]
Sonny: Mind if I wait with you for a little bit?
Sam: Yeah, you can wait. Waiting's ok, pressure is not.
Sonny: I understand, you know. I should never have been arguing with Jax. I mean, you know, you got enough on your mind. You don't need any more stress or pressure.
Sam: No, I do not.
Sonny: And, you know, it's not up to me or Jax how this all falls out. This is your child. You know what's right for the baby. And, you know, whatever you decide, I'm -- I'm right behind you
Sam: Thank you.
Jax: Nicely put. Well rehearsed, but I prefer honesty. If it turns out that I'm the father, I'll act accordingly.
Dr. Meadows: I have the results of the D.N.A. Test.
Emily: Don't move or I'll shoot!
Georgie: Hi. How are you feeling?
Sage: I've had a lot of time to think, and I'm pretty clear on something.
Georgie: What's that?
Sage: It was no accident. You put that paint can on that ladder and rigged it to fall one, didn't you?
Georgie: Sage, I am so sorry, and if there's anything I can do to make it up to you --
Sage: Save it. I've done some pretty awful things to you. But you put me in the hospital and wrecked my chances of becoming a singer. You just can't get any lower than that.
Georgie: I did not mean to hurt you.
Sage: Well, you did. And you'll pay. I'm going to take Dillon away from you if it is the last thing that I ever do.
Woman: Ooh, whoa, whoa yeah, yeah oh, whoa, whoa yeah, yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Dillon: Hey, hey! Hey what -- who are you? Hello? I heard you singing.
Courtney: Hi. Thank you for meeting me.
Jason: What do you need??
Courtney: I have a favor to ask. It's about Sam and her baby. Look, Jax and Sonny have a lot of bad blood between them -- arguments about business and competition with people, their lives. I mean, they were both involved with Sam --
Jason: Yeah, well, it's not going to matter once the paternity results come back.
Courtney: Ok. Well, if Jax does turn out to be the father, Sonny is going to try to jump in and protect Sam and -- just don't let m do it, Jason. It's only going to make things worse.
Jason: Why are you getting involved in this?
Courtney: Because I think that I can help, if only by being objective. Jax cared about Sam, you know? I mean, they had barely broken up when she started sleeping with Sonny. And from his point of view, it looks like she pulled a con job on all of them. Jax -- he's not a bad person, you know? I mean, there's months to go before the baby's going to be born and he'll calm down. And once he does, he and Sam -- I'm sure they'll work out something that'll be beneficial to everyone. But there's no way that's going to happen if you and Sonny rush to the rescue and, I don't know, give Sam money or get her an attorney or, God forbid, help her disappear.
Jason: We'll see what the test results are.
Dr. Meadows: I had the test results rechecked, and they're definitive. You are not the baby's father, Mr. Jacks. Mr. Corinthos, you are not the baby's father, either.
