Ric: Forensics report is definitive. Zander died from a blow to the head. You admitted to fighting with him.
Emily: Nikolas didn't kill Zander, Ric.
Ric: Look, he had means, opportunity, and a very, very good motive -- you.
Jason: You're working here?
Courtney: In a way. What -- what are you doing here?
Jason: Well, I'm meeting with the owner.
Courtney: You're Landau Transport?
Jason: Yeah, it's one of Sonny's holding companies, and we've been leasing piers from Pride-Phillips for years. And all of a sudden they're demanding new disclosures and guarantees, and I'm here to find out why.
Courtney: Well, the company recently changed hands. I'm the new owner.
Carly: I don't want you making promises that are impossible to keep.
Lorenzo: It's already done. Sonny won't be able to use me or my business against you.
Carly: You can't just walk away. It is not how it works. The only way out is in a body bag.
Lorenzo: Carly, you're confusing me with Sonny. He couldn't or he wouldn't get out. I can.
Alexis: Carly has retained me as her lawyer. It is my obligation to give due diligence to this case. If you cooperate, you will get shared custody, which is appropriate. If you fight, you risk losing your children entirely.
Sonny: No, I wonít.
Alexis: You've been able to bully and bribe your way into temporary custody, but --
Sonny: You know me, Alexis. I keep what's mine, and that goes double for my children. You try to separate me from my children, I will bury you.
Nikolas: Call Alexis. Explain what happened. See if she can clear this up, all right?
Emily: Ric, how can you rush to judgment like this? Nikolas knew that Zander was about to be arrested and sent to prison. He had no reason to kill him.
Ric: Emily, Zander kidnapped you once before. It's possible that Nikolas was worried he was going to do it again. You cannot deny the fact that Nikolas would do anything to protect you.
Luke: I saw the sign. I'm sorry, Skye. I thought Edward would make it.
Skye: He did, Luke. You were right. Edward's too mean to die.
Luke: Well, then why the sign? Why have you taken a dive off the wagon?
Skye: You know what's scarier than death, Luke? Getting what you always wanted. Edward respects me. He values me enough to make me his sole heir. So, naturally, I just thought Iíd get busy and mess things up.
Jason: The lady with the dog you rescued?
Courtney: Her name is Louise Phillips. She owns Pride-Phillips and I guess a whole lot more. She gave me $10 million and control over this company.
Jason: Huh. 10 --
Jason: 10 million just to thank you for saving her?
Courtney: Look, I didn't want to accept it at first, but she wouldn't take no for an answer. So I decided to take it as a gift and use it to turn my life around.
Courtney: Well, I'm going to -- I'm going to learn how to run this company, and I'm going to make a career for myself. First step was reviewing all the tenants and setting new guidelines for the use of our piers.
Jason: Ok, why start with Landau?
Courtney: You're our biggest tenant.
Jason: We're pretty much your only tenants because Sonny and I also own P&l shipping, Alvarez Imports, and Doheny Freights, which is about 80% of the property.
Courtney: Well, then I guess my business is doing business with you.
Jason: Pretty much.
Courtney: Well, it's not what I expected, but I'm sure we can work something out. I can give you pretty much the same deal -- with some stipulations. The first sign of violence or illegal activity, and I pull the leases.
Jason: So you're saying that even if -- if someone shot at us, we're going to lose our lease?
Courtney: That's right.
Jason: That's an impossible condition.
Courtney: Not if you're a legitimate company, Jason, and that is the only kind that I do business with.
Lorenzo: I'm not promising to become a history professor.
Carly: I didn't think so.
Lorenzo: Any business I conduct in this country from now on will be completely legal. Sonny's attorneys can investigate me all they want. They won't find a shred of evidence to indicate that Iím a bad influence on you or your children.
Carly: The people that you deal with don't let you just walk away. They can't. You know way too much about how their operations are run.
Lorenzo: I know how to do this.
Carly: I know what this is like. The only way to get out is to disappear.
Lorenzo: That's what Sonny wanted you to believe. Leaving is just like anything else. It's a choice. Listen, I know what I'm doing, Carly. It's worth it for me to stay in your life.
[Knock on door]
Lorenzo: Excuse me.
Faith: Why am I here?
Lorenzo: Well, I have a business proposal for you.
Faith: Hmm. Music to my ears. Go be decorative somewhere else, ok, honey? We got work to do.
Carly: Ok. Lorenzo, whatever you are planning on doing, if it involves this nut case, it is a mistake.
Faith: Hello? Who checked herself into Shadybrook to get over her fixation with Lorenzo?
Lorenzo: Shut your mouth. You might hear something I have to say, Faith.
Faith: Sorry. You were saying?
Lorenzo: I'm selling off my local interests -- shipping routes, connections, incoming product. Make me a decent offer; it's all yours.
Faith: Whatever pheromones you're giving off, honey, you should bottle that. You'd make a fortune.
Alexis: I'm not going to let you intimidate me.
Sonny: You try to take my children, Alexis, Iíll treat you like any other enemy.
Alexis: Would that be any worse than the way you're treating your own children who you claim to love? Why are you doing this? They need their mother. I know what it's like to grow up without one.
Sonny: I know what it's like to have some bastard get a hold of your mother, lie to her, use her to the point where you don't even know who she is. She doesn't even know who she is. I will do anything I can to save my sons from that, and I will take anyone down --
Sonny: Who tries to get in my way.
Justus: Alexis, what are you doing here?
Alexis: I'm wasting my time. You tell your client that a known racketeer who has been a target of or responsible for countless acts of violence in this town will have a very difficult time of winning custody of his children. Carly is offering joint custody. I suggest you tell your client to take it.
Sonny: Alexis, I'm just curious. You despise Carly. You think she's trash. Why are you taking this case?
Alexis: I am so tired of watching you bribe and bully your way into getting everything you want, and I'll be damned if you get your children that way.
Sonny: Alexis is good. She used to be, anyway. Can you beat her?
Justus: Carly's attorney is only as good as her case --
Sonny: All right.
Justus: Which happens to be a very strong one. She's the mother of your children. You shot her in the head. That won't endear you to any custody judge.
Sonny: If you can't get my kids, Justus, just tell me. I'll find somebody else --
Justus: Anybody you hire is going to tell you the same thing. If you want to win this, you're going to have to come across as a reasonable man. I'm not seeing that right now.
Sonny: Don't tell me I'm not a good father. I love my children more than I love my life. I loved Carly the same way. In the time it took to pull the trigger, she was gone. Michael and Morgan are my children. They're all I got left. I'm not going to lose them.
Justus: Are you even clear on what you're trying to accomplish here? Is this about the custody of your children or getting Carly back?
Faith: What is it about you that makes men lose their minds?
Carly: You cannot be serious about selling out to her.
Faith: Are you a witch? A voodoo priestess? A contortionist?
Carly: I'm not demented. I never poisoned anyone. Maybe that's got something to do with it.
Lorenzo: Why do you care about my motives? There's an offer on the table. Are you interested or not?
Faith: I'm no fool, I am.
Lorenzo: Good. We'll discuss the terms later.
Faith: Ahem. Oh, and just so you know, this is a permanent arrangement. You don't get to change your mind when her spell wears off.
Carly: You can't do this.
Courtney: This is not about me trying to control you and Sonny.
Jason: That's how it feels.
Courtney: Look, Jason, I am making the most out of an opportunity that Iíve been given. I didn't even know that I would be dealing with you.
Jason: You own -- you own half the waterfront, and all of a sudden you're restricting access; you're requiring full documentation. You had to know that that was going to cause a problem.
Courtney: Hey, I didn't see your name or Sonny's on my list of tenants, ok?
Jason: Well, you know now.
Courtney: I can't give you and Sonny special treatment. I'm not going to lose my company --
Jason: Your company?
Courtney: Because of illegal activity!
Jason: What are you talking about, your company? This was a gift from -- from some woman that you saved and her dog! And now it's more important than helping me and Sonny?
Courtney: I am not going to help you break the law, Jason, or turn a blind eye while you do it. This is my chance to build something for myself, ok? You know what? I have a code of my own, things that I believe in, and I believe in them so strongly that I had to walk away from you.
Jason: I understand why you left me! Ok? But now you're constricting my business.
Courtney: No, I am standing by my beliefs, and I am sorry that it puts us on opposite sides, but I can't give you what you want.
Skye: All my life, Iíve been trying to fit into one family or another, trying to get them to see how special I am. Now that Iím the favorite child, guess what? It's worse than being unwanted. All those hungry Quartermaine mouths will be turned towards me like rabid little birds waiting for me to deliver the worm. Oh, they'll show me phony respect, all right, all the while plotting against me, waiting to bounce me out of the nest.
Luke: If you don't mind my saying so, it seems to me there's a more efficient way to handle this than drinking yourself stupid. That's how I handle complicated problems, remember? Look, it's none of my business, really, except that I like you a lot, and as a business partner, you're very important to me. And I hate to see any Quartermaine define who you are and what you're worth because you'll always end up on the short end of that deal. So I think, for whatever it's worth, you ought to tell Edward to take that inheritance and shove it where the grass don't grow.
Skye: Maybe you're right. Maybe I am overreacting. I mean, after the lawsuits from the fire, there probably wouldn't be a company left to run.
Luke: Oh, I wouldn't count on that. You know, Edwardís probably already covered his assets. No, I think there's going to be definitely an E.L.Q. and the question is, do you want to be the one to run it?
Skye: Luke, have you ever been trusted? I mean, it's awful, you know? It -- it makes me want to just ruin everything right now instead of waiting for the day when I just screw it up anyway.
Luke: I don't know, Skye. I don't know about trust. I just know that the Quartermaines -- there isn't one of them worth the hell that you're going through. But, hey, it's your life, you know? Suffer needlessly if you want, but do it on your own time because right now you're going to go to work. Come on. Come on.
Elizabeth: There you go.
Emily: Thank you.
Alexis: I got your message. Forensics suggests that Zander died before the fire.
Emily: And Ricís convinced Nikolas killed Zander when they were fighting.
Alexis: I will find the best possible legal counsel I can for Nikolas.
Emily: Well, what do you mean? You aren't representing him?
Alexis: I'll consult, but I'm going to need to find him another attorney.
Alexis: Because I'm representing Carly. I have already agreed to do that. And if I represent Nikolas as well, Iíll be spreading myself too thin, not to mention the judge won't allow the conflict of interest.
Emily: Well, can't you tell Carly to get someone else?
Alexis: I can't because Sonny has already pressured the other attorney into leaving and I can't back out on her.
Elizabeth: Ok, so what? You're choosing Carly over your own nephew?
Alexis: Nikolas will be fine. I -- the -- the fact is is that there are better attorneys. There are better choices for him right now.
Emily: And none of them is his aunt.
Alexis Can't represent him --
Emily: None of them loves him.
Alexis: Emily, I can't. I made a promise to Carly, and I have to see it through.
Jen: I'll have an apple martini.
Justus: I see your tastes haven't changed.
Jen: Oh. Well, neither have yours. Ambition is your shining star, isn't it, Justus? You like the heavy hitters, right? Edward Quartermaine is --
Justus: The man happens to be my grandfather.
Jen: Oh. Ok, well, Sonny Corinthos isnít. Tell me, Justus, do you advise the man on which judges to bribe and how to bully his wife into giving up her kids?
Justus: Sonny pays me to be his legal counsel. He does not require nor do I provide any moral or ethical advice on how he lives his life.
Jen: Hmm. So in other words he's just a very powerful man who pays his bills on time. That's all you need to know.
Justus: More or less.
Jen: It's all about status with you, Justus, has been since law school. Black man gets a little credibility, has to go and date every white woman in the class.
Justus: Oh, it wasn't that they're white. I just wasn't interested in you.
Faith: Who's your friend?
Jen: Jen McNeill. And you are?
Justus: Jen, meet Faith, Faith Rosco.
Faith: Justus and I are old, very close associates.
Jen: I'm not surprised. I know who you are, Mrs. Rosco. Widow of a not-so-bright criminal. Slept your way to the top of a very small heap.
Luke: Now, that's better. You look great.
Skye: I want to go home.
Luke: No, you're not going home. You got to work. I need a hostess, and you're it. So what do you say? Give me a big smile and let's start relieving these suckers of their cash.
Skye: Oh, guess who decided to grace us with her toxic presence.
Luke: Ok, you got two ways of handling this. You can turn tail and run like a coward, or you can march right up to the dragon lady and face her head to head.
Jason: You know, I -- I need to go over this with Sonny. I'll have Meyer call to give you our decision.
Courtney: You mean you can't tell me yourself?
Jason: No. It's personal with us. It's always going to be. I can't just pretend that you're some landlord. And obviously, I can't detach myself like -- you know, like I should.
Courtney: Jason, Iím not doing this to hurt you. But I have to be true to myself and do what I think is right and not just live my life around you and try to fit in where you will let me.
Jason: You know what? I never -- I never asked you to live your life for me. I never asked you to change. You said you wanted to.
Courtney: That's my fault. Is that what you want to hear?
Jason: You know what? I don't even know how to handle this. I need some time to figure it out.
Lorenzo: Would it be possible for you to trust me on this?
Carly: The question is, can you trust Faith Rosco, and the answer is no. She's going to double-cross you, Lorenzo.
Lorenzo: Faith serves my purpose.
Carly: There is no point in doing this. Ok, it is not going to change who you were before. It won't stop Sonny's attorney from trying to use you against me. All that's going to happen is you're going to end up in danger.
Lorenzo: Look, if I am called as a witness at the hearing, I will be able to testify and swear under oath that I am a legitimate businessman. More importantly, Sonny's attorneys won't be able to prove otherwise. Look, I am not going to allow anyone to use me against you, and I am definitely not going to be the reason you're taken away from your children.
Carly: I just don't want anything to happen to you. Yes, I want my children back more than anything, but I also want you to be safe.
Lorenzo: You're my life. Nothing else matters. The way you're looking at me right now is all I can see. Even if you don't love me yet.
Sonny: I decided to visit.
Sam: Well, welcome to the Lazarus.
Sonny: You comfortable here?
Sam: Yeah. I hope you will be, too. Hey --
Sam: You ok?
Sonny: Yeah -- you don't want to ask.
Sonny: No, you don't have to be sorry.
Faith: My, my. Aren't we all prim and proper and repressed? I'll bet you save all your passion for work and that's fine with me. All the more for me.
Jen: It's always the blondes. Well, Justus, at least you're consistent.
Faith: You can thank me for running her off later. Right now, I have the offer of a lifetime for you.
Skye: Evening, Tracy. Ahem. Don't you find it a bit in poor taste to be out on the town considering your family's recent misfortune?
Tracy: Actually, I'm here to show the world that the Quartermaines have no reason to be in hiding.
Skye: Well, I certainly hope you brought money. I won't be extending credit tonight. You are a very bad risk.
Tracy: Wrong again, Skye. I'm an excellent risk. You see, it's just a matter of time before Iím in control of E.L.Q. and the Quartermaine estate. You're the first person I'm going to show to the door.
Skye: If I don't slam it in your face first.
Tracy: That was very confident. Let me guess. Daddy finally rewrote his will, huh? Tell me something, sweet thing. Did he leave you everything?
Skye: Well, can you blame him? I mean, look at the alternatives.
Tracy: Do yourself a favor. Don't go on a spending spree just yet. You see, daddy's certifiable, which is why I got the power of attorney. The will is not worth the paper it's printed on. In fact, I was actually thinking of giving it to you as a souvenir because you're worthless, too. Ha, ha. Not to mention drunk. Oh, I completely understand. The pressure of trying to hide your trailer park roots must be relentless. You have clearly crumbled under the strain. Bye-bye. Oh -- now, then. Deal me in. I'm feeling so lucky.
Luke: I'll deal, Mario. My, my. You must be feeling lucky.
Carly: I care about you, but I don't know if I have love to give right now.
Lorenzo: That's honest. Can't ask for more than that.
Carly: But I don't want to hurt you.
Lorenzo: You havenít. All I want from you is the truth. It's the best way to know where we are.
Carly: Don't you ever feel cheated? You give so much, and everything I give to you is qualified.
Lorenzo: I want you to love me on your own terms in your own time.
Carly: And what if that time never comes?
Lorenzo: I choose to believe it will.
Sam: Hey, is something hurting you?
Sonny: Well, what do you mean?
Sam: I don't know. You just -- you look upset.
Sonny: You've never seen me upset, and I hope you never do.
Sam: Hmm. Because that would be real, and you can't be real with me. That's ok. I mean, you -- you can't show me anything except what you want me to see.
Sonny: Yeah, yeah, that's right.
Sam: Hey, at least you're honest, right?
Sonny: Sam, Iím not going to tell you my secrets. I'm not going to open up my heart because there's nothing left in there for me to -- to give. Sam? Hey. You said you could handle it, but I understand 100% if you can't. I'll just walk out of here, and we'll call it a day.
Courtney: I'm -- Iím glad you came back. Jason, I don't want to fight with you.
Jason: This is a bill of landing. It's all the information on our first shipment. Everything's there and it's legit.
Courtney: Thank you.
Courtney: Look, Jason, I'm sure that there's a way that we can make this work. I'm willing to try if you are.
Jason: I can't make any promises. Neither can you.
Alexis: I thought we agreed that you two wouldn't see each other.
Carly: Yeah, don't speak to me like I am a child --
Alexis: Do you want to win this case or not?
Lorenzo: Try not to be influenced by your personal bias against me, Ms. Davis. I'm a businessman with a Masters in History from Oxford. I hold joint American-Venezuelan citizenship. Never been convicted of a crime. Never had someone die because they happened to be in the wrong place when someone tried to kill me. In short, I am nothing like Sonny or my brother, which means I will not be a liability in court. So I will continue to go on seeing Carly regardless of your input. Now, if you'll excuse me. I'll see you later.
Alexis: What is it that you didn't understand the first time when I told you that it wasn't a good idea for you to be seen with him?
Carly: Lorenzo's a legitimate businessman.
Alexis: Oh, for God's sake, Carly. You think Sonny's attorney's going to buy that?
Carly: Sonny has an arrest record as long as my arm. Why don't you use that against him?
Alexis: Sonny, by the way, has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor. Other than that, he's never been convicted of anything.
Carly: Ok. Well, how about the fact that violence surrounds him wherever he goes?
Alexis: That should matter. In family court, it may not.
Carly: Ok, well -- well, you know what? It is a matter of public record. So why don't we bring up the fact that -- that he's been shot at and his cars have exploded while he is near them. What --
Alexis: His fitness as a parent is what we're going to put into question. We're going to -- we're going to look into his emotional background, we're going to look into his stability, we're going to look into the fact that his stepfather used to beat him up.
Carly: Oh, no, no, no, absolutely not. You are not going to use Sonny's childhood against him.
Sam: You know something? I don't want you to leave.
Sam: Because --
Sam: I like you. And not just -- not just in bed. You're easy to be around. I like that.
Sonny: I think you're the first person to ever say that to me.
Sam: Really? Well, what I -- what I mean by that is you don't put pressure on me. I don't -- I don't have to defend things that I do or the things that I say. You seem to be happy --
Sam: When you're with me. You don't ask me too many questions. And -- I don't know -- maybe I should probably return the favor.
Sonny: Well, most questions I can't answer, anyway, and I can't tell you anything about my business. I'm not really good at talking about, you know, my feelings. But I'm going to -- I'm going to have to warn you -- I can be very moody.
Sam: I pretty much figured that one out already.
Sonny: But it's not going to, you know -- it's not going to be anything that has to do with you, I mean, so don't take it personally.
Sam: No, I wonít.
Sonny: All right?
Sam: I didn't mean to push you --
Sonny: No, it's all right. It's all right.
Sam: Tonight. Usually -- usually -- see, where Iím coming from, I don't -- I don't ever want to let people in --
Sam: Because it's the only way that I can protect myself. That way, I can't care for anyone else.
Sonny: That's not what I need from you.
Sam: I know. Oh. That's what I'm trying to say. Because you don't ask for anything from me, it really makes me want to give it to you.
Emily: I'll talk to Lucky. There has to be evidence that points to the real killer.
Nikolas: Don't try to solve this by yourself. You're so smart, you just might do it. I don't want whoever did do this coming after you.
Emily: You've been falsely accused of murder, and you're worried about me. If I weren't already engaged to the world's most incredible man, I think Iíd marry you.
Nikolas: You don't know how badly I want this to be over. I mean, you should be picking out dresses right now instead of sitting here with me.
Emily: I love you, Nikolas. My place is by your side. And for the record, I would marry you wearing a flour sack.
Emily: Not -- not -- not yet. Not yet.
Nikolas: It's all right, it's all right. Saying goodbye won't get any easier in a few minutes. Let's go. I love you.
Emily: I love you, too. I'll be back first thing in the morning.
Nikolas: All right.
[Door opens and closes]
Elizabeth: Thank you. Nikolas and Emily are my closest friends. I care about what happens to them.
Ric: Sweetheart, I've got to go where the evidence takes me.
Elizabeth: Evidence can be misleading. Nikolas did not kill Zander, and I'm not going to stand by and watch him pay for it.
Luke: 21. The lady loses again. Clearly, you have never learned when to cut your losses.
Tracy: The law of averages suggests that this is more than just a run of bad luck, Luke.
Luke: Consider it a caveat from the great casino God Snake Eyes. If you go after Skye, you're in for a long stretch of very bad luck.
Faith: I'm getting everything -- valuable real estate, shipping lanes, a lucrative export business.
Justus: Just for asking?
Faith: I didn't even have to ask. Lorenzo came to me with the offer. Now, I want you to draw up the paperwork right away. I don't want to give him a chance to change his mind.
Justus: Excuse me?
Faith: Well, I will need a lawyer to make sure things get handled properly. And I'll pay you more money than you've ever seen in your life, and who knows what benefits we might be able to work in.
Justus: Our last business relationship ended very badly for all parties involved. Let's not go down this road again.
Luke: I thought you were going to be at Jakeís, waiting for me at the bar.
Skye: I almost was.
Luke: What changed your mind?
Skye: Tracy's no excuse to drink. Nothing's an excuse to drink. I drink because I'm sick, and when I stop, that means I'm on my way to getting better.
Luke: I hope we're not leading here to an invitation to one of those meetings.
Skye: Hey, Iím working on my own recovery here, ok? Tracy thinks she's going to roll over me? Well, then I need to be sober to fight her.
Luke: Well, Tracyís tough. Even for a Quartermaine, she's ruthless. She'll go for the jugular, you know.
Skye: Well, then I guess Iíll just have to go after hers.
Luke: Now, that I'd like to see. Not that you need it, but I have been known to provide some pretty fair backup.
Skye: Well, thank you for the reinforcements, and thanks for that kick in the pants before.
Luke: Sure. You've done the same for me. Consider it payback and thank you.
Sam: Hey, don't get me wrong. Sonny, I don't think that you need me. And the truth is I would probably bail on you halfway through, so you're better off not counting on me, anyway.
Sonny: That's good to know.
Sam: But you seem lonely, and that's what gets to me.
Sonny: In my life, I never thought I'd have a family. And once I did, I never thought Iíd lose it. So Iím just trying to, you know, learn to live without what's gone. And I'm just trying to hold on to what's left. Ahem.
Alexis: Statistics show that for children who have been abused, there's a higher percentage that they will become abusers.
Carly: Sonny would never hurt a child. And no matter how dirty this case gets, I will not allow you to imply otherwise.
Alexis: Sonny has an explosive temper, Carly. You've seen it. I've seen it. He throws things. He throws glasses. He smashes bottles. Has Michael seen any of it?
Carly: Just once or twice.
Alexis: Once or twice? How often has he had these rages, Carly?
Carly: You know what? It's not like that, Alexis.
Alexis: What's not?
Alexis: Listen -- if you want me to help you, you better start talking. Now, what has Michael seen?
Carly: Sonny -- he had a -- he had a breakdown. Last year, he got a little wired. He got extremely volatile, and then -- it's like he fell into a deep depression.
Alexis: Has it happened before?
Carly: Once that I know.
Alexis: Was it documented?
Carly: No. Jason and I keep this quiet. It is private and it is personal, and I will not let you use it against him. It would kill Sonny.
Alexis: Carly, if you want to win this case, you are going to have to tell the court the truth about Sonny's emotional instability.
Carly: I will not do this to Sonny.
Alexis: He has taken your children, Carly. You better decide what you're going to do and what you're willing to do to get them back.
>> On the next "General Hospital" --
Nikolas: There's not going to be a conviction because I didn't kill Zander.
Dillon: You said you're in trouble?
Sage: You have to help me cover so my uncle won't find out.
Lorenzo: After all he's done to you, you're still protecting him.
Jason: You have to stop! If you lose it again, it's going to cost you everything!
Courtney: What's so important?
Jason: I need your help.
