>> Previously on "General Hospital" --
Zander: If Jason is expecting us to trust him with our lives, then why not be honest with us about what's going on?
Alexis: People close to me were hurt by Mr. Corinthos. My own sister was killed as a result of my association with him.
Carly: Pack your bags and get out.
Brenda: I'm here. I'm not going anywhere.
Skye: What are you doing with my husband?
[Zander turns on TV]
Reporter: The victim, entrepreneur Jasper Jacks, remains in critical condition at General Hospital tonight. In a bizarre twist, alleged racketeer Michael Sonny Corinthos Jr. and model Brenda Barrett, both presumed dead, resurfaced at the scene. Corinthos has been the target of escalating mob violence in recent months. In August, a bomb exploded in his warehouse, leaving one woman dead. In a related incident, a ship--
[Zander turns off TV]
Elizabeth: What was that? What happened?
Jason: Are you ok?
Elizabeth: Jason, what are you doing here?
Jason: Are you hurt?
Elizabeth: No, no, but what happened --
Jason: The warehouse.
Sonny's voice: Your employment with me is terminated.
Jason's voice: Just don't hurt Zander.
Alan's voice: Where are you going, you coward?
Zander: This isn't a good time for you to be making threats, I don't think.
Elizabeth: Zander, no!
Lucky's voice: Are you going to put a gun in her side? You going to steal a car?
Zander: Anybody follows me, she's dead.
Nikolas' voice: You should be in jail!
Elizabeth's voice: We're not friends anymore.
Alan's voice: You're a liar!
Bobbie's voice: It's a shame you decided to throw your life away.
Zander: Hey. Hey, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth: Are you all right?
Zander: Yeah. Why wouldn't I be?
Elizabeth: Well, you were completely off in a different dimension. What's going on? Have you remembered things?
Zander: No. No. Nothing at all.
Jason: It's too bad they didn't let you die. It would have saved somebody the effort, because if you get out of here alive, I can pretty much guarantee you won't stay that way for long.
Carly: Well, why are you still standing here? I'm sorry, did you not hear what I said?
Sonny: No, no, I heard what you said, but I'm not going anywhere until we settle this.
Carly: Settle this?
Sonny: Yeah, settle this.
Carly: Sonny, it's already been settled. The great love of your life has come back. Congratulations, Sonny. You know, you go to Brenda and you go to her with my blessings because I really -- I couldn't be happier for you.
Sonny: Ok, do I get to weigh in here?
Carly: You already did. You know what? Don't expect me to beg you to stay, though, because I'm not doing it. I know exactly what she meant to you in your life, and I am not going to interfere with your great love.
Sonny: Ok, I am not -- I'm not leaving for Brenda, first of all. And do you know why I'm not?
Sonny: Because you're the one that I love. You know that. So what are we doing here?
Carly: Well, if I'm the one that you love, then why didn't you tell me the moment you knew that Brenda was alive?
Skye: I'm sorry, I don't know you. Are you a friend of my husband's? I'm afraid that he's not allowed visitors at the moment.
Brenda: No. I -- I'm sorry. I didn't know, and so I can just leave.
Skye: No, no. Wait. I think I do know you. I've seen your pictures. My God. You're Brenda Barrett.
Skye: I heard there was a woman at the shooting, but it never occurred to me -- well, why would it, right? But I'm right, aren't I? You're Brenda.
Brenda: Yes. And you're Skye.
Skye: And how would you know that? Oh, yes. That would be because Jax told you on the night that he disappeared. You are the connection to Alcazar. You're the person that he left me to go see the day after our wedding. Maybe you need to explain just what's going on.
Brenda: Yes. The man that I have been with for the past four years turned out to be somebody that I don't know. So I had to escape from him, and I was hiding in my old cottage. I didn't have clothes or food or money, so Jax came there to help me when all he really wanted was to be with you. I'm not here to complicate anyone's life. All I want is for Jax to be happy.
Skye: Well, he is. We are. And I'm going to make sure that we stay that way. So, you came to warn Jax, to save his life.
Skye: Well, looks like your little plan didn't work out very well, did it? Because if Alcazar was after you, then you're the reason that Jax was shot and nearly died.
Jax: Skye, Brenda's the reason I'm alive.
Carly: Well, it all finally makes sense now -- why Jason called me and told me to get to the church immediately, why I had to fill in for him so he could go off to mysterious parts unknown. There was a kink in the plan. You know what? You're damn right there was a kink in the plan, and her name's Brenda. You know, there you are, you're in a safe house with her, and --
Sonny: Yeah, yeah.
Carly: And -- and --
Carly: I bet you had a hell of a reunion, you and Brenda, just laughing at the rest of us.
Sonny: You know, could you let me talk for a second, you think?
Carly: Go ahead.
Sonny: Ok. First of all, you got it all wrong. Brenda never laid eyes on me the entire time she was under my protection. She didn't even -- she didn't even know that I was alive.
Carly: Oh, so sainted Brenda didn't get special consideration?
Sonny: I only trust you with the truth. I -- I never expected to see Brenda, you know, in front of that church. And then, you know, everything happened fast after that -- Roy shot me, Jason grabbed Brenda, and then we never even exchanged a word. Brenda could have ruined everything, so the only thing I could really do was take her to the safe house.
Carly: Why is she here?
Sonny: Well, because she came to warn me and Jax that Alcazar intended to kill us. After that was done, she was going to go back to Europe. She's sick. Brenda's dying. I don't know if you know, but she has the same disease as her mother. Well, look, if it had gone according to my plan, Brenda would have gone straight back to Europe, lived the rest of her life out, would have never known that I survived that shooting.
Carly: But she does know, Sonny.
Carly: It changes everything.
Elizabeth: Why'd you look so shell-shocked when you saw me?
Zander: I saw a news bulletin on TV. It was about Jax and Sonny.
Elizabeth: A news bulletin?
Zander: Jax was shot.
Elizabeth: Did they mention Jason?
Zander: No, no.
Elizabeth: Is Jax ok?
Zander: He's alive, but it sounded pretty serious. But the weird thing was is that they said Sonny's alive, too.
Elizabeth: What? That's impossible.
Zander: Well, apparently not. I saw him.
Zander: On the TV. He was arrested right after Jax got shot. I mean, apparently, the whole death thing was a hoax. It's not too big of a leap to figure out that Jason was in on it. He played us for fools, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth: No. No, no. Jason would not do that. There has to be some mistake. You heard it wrong.
Zander: I saw him. I saw him. I saw Sonny get taken away by the cops.
Elizabeth: Wait a -- are you telling me that all the nights I laid awake worrying about Jason, holding my breath at every noise, praying it was him home safe, all of this time he's been out with Sonny perpetuating some lie?
Alcazar: If I die in this bed, who do you think the cops are going to go after first?
Jason: No, you misunderstood me. The only thing that's going to happen to you here is a full and speedy recovery. You lucked out with a good doctor in Monica. You're at a good hospital. One day you're going to walk away from here. That's when you should worry.
Taggert: Well, well, well. Isn't this touching? Anger boy administering to the sick? That's a new look for you, Jason.
Jason: I knew you'd show up eventually.
Taggert: So what are you doing? Tying up loose ends?
Jason: I'm just visiting my friend Luis.
Taggert: Because you're such good friends, right? You two mortal enemies would much rather kill each other than get up in the morning, united with your contempt for the law.
Jason: Hmm, does that sound familiar?
Taggert: Ok, I'll talk, you listen. This is how I figure it went down. You hired Roy as a front man to kill Sonny. That way you could keep a safe distance, and, you know, to hell with all the innocent people that might get caught in the crossfire of an all-out mob war, like Kristina Cassadine. Now, I'm willing to bet my badge that neither you or Sonny or even Roy had anything to do with that explosion that killed her. It was you.
Alexis: Is it true? Is that the bastard that killed my sister?
Alexis: You're the coward who set off the explosion that killed my sister?
Taggert: Alexis, you need to relax.
Alexis: Don't tell me to relax. Tell me that you have the proof that you need to put him away.
Monica: Ok, well, this is not a police station or a courtroom. It's a hospital and the man is a patient.
Alexis: According to Taggert, he's also a murderer.
Monica: That may be, but it's not going to be decided here, so everyone out, please. Now.
Alexis: Look at my face and remember it. If you killed my sister, you will see it again because I am coming after you.
Taggert: You -- you got a second for me?
Monica: Just one, actually.
Taggert: Listen, I'm going to need you to come down to the station, at your convenience, of course, you know, give me a statement on your kidnapping and the care you were forced to give Alcazar.
Monica: All right, I will. I'll call you.
Monica: Lieutenant, I -- I almost let him die. I'm beginning to wonder whether or not I shouldn't have.
Alexis: Jason, please, please, just come over here for a second. I need some answers.
Jason: I thought you had them all.
Alexis: What if somebody murdered Emily? How would you feel? Was it Alcazar?
Alexis: So Roy bought the pier, and Alcazar was backing him.
Jason: That's right.
Alexis: And shortly after that, the pier went up in flames?
Alexis: That was Sonny. I'll take that as a yes. So then his pier explodes and it's supposed to look like Roy is retaliating, but it was Alcazar. What's his point? What's he trying to prove? Is he trying to escalate hostilities so big between the two of them that one of them ends up dead?
Jason: Yeah, something like that.
Alexis: So then Sonny wasn't directly responsible for my sister's death.
Elizabeth: Well, I don't appreciate when people I'm supposed to be able to trust lie straight to my face, or pretend to be dead.
Zander: Sonny and Jason had their reasons. I mean, it was on the report. There was also a -- something about this woman that was alive that everybody thought was dead?
Elizabeth: What woman?
Zander: I don't know, some model, Jax's ex-wife?
Elizabeth: Brenda Barrett?
Zander: Yep, that's her. Does that -- does that take some of the sting away?
Elizabeth: No. No, it just makes it worse. You know what? Enough is enough. Why should I sit around waiting to be shut down when I don't even dare question this outrageous behavior? I have to get out of here. We have to go. We're going to leave tonight.
Zander: Well, where are we going?
Elizabeth: My studio? There's enough room there for the both of us, at least for a little while. And you know what? After we get settled in, I'm going to take you around town just like you wanted and maybe we can spark a memory or something, ok?
Zander: Thank -- thank you, Elizabeth, but, no. I mean, I may not have my memory, but I know how to use the classifieds. I'm going to -- I'm going to go get my own place and I'm going to get a job. I'm not going to mooch off of you anymore.
Elizabeth: I'm not complaining, Zander.
Zander: I know, I know, and you've been -- you've been great. You know, it's time. I mean, it's time for me to get out there and make my own way, become my own man. Maybe even a brand-new one. I'll see you around.
Carly: Well, now that big bad nasty Alcazar's out of the picture, Brenda's going to need someone to cling to. Surprise, surprise, it's you.
Sonny: I wanted Brenda to believe I was dead. Didn't I tell you that?
Carly: Yeah, you know what it tells me?
Carly: It tells me that the two of you are doing your dance again, ok? One of you has to pretend that you don't care so the other one can follow the other around yearning, and I guess that's Brenda now.
Sonny: You should hang out a shingle -- "psychoanalysis by Carly," emphasis on the "psycho," because that's kind of the way -- that's kind of the way you're acting a little bit right now.
Carly: If you don't care about her, then why did you lie to me? Why didn't you just tell me that Alcazar's mysterious girlfriend was Brenda?
Sonny: Because I knew that you would go off like you're doing right now, that you would hate knowing where I was, why I was there. The situation was already out of hand. I did not want you barging in, you know, every five minutes just trying to figure out if I'm doing something wrong.
Carly: Ok, you know what? It would have been a hell of a lot better than what you did by keeping me at arm's length and keeping her in the next room, guarding her like she's some sort of secret treasure. You know what, Sonny? I am not going to be the next thing that gets in the way of you being with the woman you really love.
Sonny: All I want is to be with my wife. Can't I have that?
Carly: No, because your wife doesn't want to be with you.
Skye: You're awake.
Jax: Barely. I'm getting there.
Skye: No, that's exactly what you should not be doing. You need to get your rest.
Jax: No, no. You need to know what happened. Brenda did everything she could to warn me about Alcazar. She even went as far as shielding me with her own body when he was standing over me with a gun.
Skye: Well, then, I owe you a profound debt of gratitude.
Brenda: No, you -- you -- you don't owe me anything. I'm responsible for all this.
Jax: Oh, Brenda, don't blame yourself for a madman's choices.
Brenda: I'm blaming myself for my choices. I should have left the night of your wedding after I warned you about Luis.
Jax: You're here because I asked you to stay.
Skye: You -- you asked Brenda to stay?
Jax: I needed to know what happened to her.
Skye: Of course. So, what are your immediate plans now?
Brenda: I'm not really sure. I'm going to go, so -- you should listen to your wife, try and get some sleep.
Brenda: It was nice to meet you.
Skye: Well, this gets more and more interesting by the minute. Your presumed dead ex-wife shows up the night of our wedding, and you fail to mention it to me?
Jax: Brenda didn't want anyone to know that she was alive. She -- she intended to disappear again right away.
Skye: What if she'd shown up sooner, Jax, before our wedding? Would you have still married me if you'd known that Brenda was not only alive, but right here in Port Charles?
Skye: Jax, I -- I'm sorry. Look, you -- you don't have to explain anything. You don't. You shouldn't even be talking.
Jax: No, Skye, I want to. I want to.
Jax: My bride. My beautiful bride.
Skye: Yeah, right. Stress so becomes me.
Jax: And, no, it would not have made any difference if she showed up the night before our wedding or even during our vows. I still would have married you, because I am head over heels in love with you. It hasn't changed. And we are still going to go on our honeymoon and we are still going to spend the rest of our lives together.
Jax: I hated keeping this from you. But it would only have been until Alcazar was captured and Brenda was safe enough to leave. I never would have put a secret like that in the middle of our marriage. All I can say is that I hope you understand why I did this.
Skye: I do. I mean, I think. I'm trying.
Jax: Our love for each other is the most important thing in the world to me. I don't want to damage that. Please tell me that I haven't.
Skye: How about I show you instead?
Alcazar: I knew it was you. The doctors say I'm going to make a full recovery.
Brenda: Why'd you do this?
Alcazar: To keep my promise. You begged me to take any steps necessary to keep you from going back to your old life.
Brenda: I can't go back to my old life.
Alcazar: I might believe that if you loved me. We both know you don't.
Brenda: I have nothing left for you. I could never care for you after what you've done.
Alcazar: You might want to reconsider.
Brenda: What does that mean?
Alcazar: I don't care whether you love me or not. You're mine, and I will never, never let you go.
Sonny: So you're ready to throw away a marriage that means so much to both of us because I used to love somebody else? I never claimed to come to you as a virgin. I've been with other women, some I even loved, in my way, which has nothing to do with us. You see, this is exactly why I didn't tell you about Brenda in the first place. I knew that this would happen.
Carly: No, don't, don't! Don't you dare blame this on me. Ok, this is about you, you and your obsession with that whiny little viper.
Sonny: What do I got to -- how many -- can you get this through your head? I love you. What else do you want me to say?
Alexis: So my sister died because of a man that she didn't even know who, wanted to teach Sonny a lesson? And that same man then went and shot my best friend. So what kind of a monster is he?
Jason: Alcazar is an arms dealer. He's ruthless and powerful, and I doubt he gave Kristina a thought. She's just collateral damage to him.
Alexis: She was my sister. She was a wonderful woman with a whole life ahead of her.
Jason: Look, Alexis, I know that you're hurting, and I'm sorry, but I really have someplace to be. Do you have what you need?
Alexis: It's a start.
Elizabeth: Let me save you the trouble of stonewalling. I already know Sonny's alive, Jax has been shot, and Brenda's back. Does that cover all the real reasons you've been gone at night while I sat here wondering whether you were dead or alive?
Jason: It was just supposed to be a couple of days.
Elizabeth: Do you think any of this is acceptable?
Jason: I don't know what you mean.
Elizabeth: Staging big, elaborate hoaxes, setting people up to grieve for no reason or worrying themselves sick for nothing? What goes through your head? You know what? Don't answer. I already know the answer, ok? And I've heard it plenty. You were just doing what you had to do. Didn't matter if anyone else was devastated. God, I could only imagine what poor Carly must have been going through.
Jason: No, Carly knew that Sonny was alive. That's what Sonny wanted.
Elizabeth: Great. Do you have any idea how foolish I feel right now? Do you even care that you've trampled my trust or that you've ruined any chance we ever had of being together? Or is that a small price to pay knowing you did your job the way Sonny wanted?
Sonny: Ok, you know what? I tried to act responsibly to get everybody out of the situation, you know, with the least amount of damage. That's all you can do -- be responsible. But the variables, you know, they're out of your control. I'm not -- I'm not going to deny that, you know, I'm happy Brenda's alive. I mean, I hope she has a lot of good years left and that she finds happiness. But it's not going to be with me.
Sonny: You're my wife, ok? We're together. You know how I feel about you. We've been married, what, how many times now?
Sonny: It's never enough time.
Carly: You mean it?
Sonny: Cross my heart.
Carly: All right. If -- if --
Carly: I believe you, and I'm not saying that I will --
Carly: You need to know this is it. This is all I have left. I have no more reserves left. If you end up leaving me for Brenda anyway, I swear that everything you said is just a despicable act of cruelty, and I swear I will hate you for the rest of my life. But if you go now, we can salvage something, Sonny, so it's your choice.
Sonny: Come here.
Skye: I guess I should be grateful she showed up when she did. At least she kept Alcazar from -- oh, my God, Jax. When I heard that you were shot --
Jax: Skye, don't.
Skye: No --
Jax: Don't go there.
Skye: I love you so much, I just -- I can't bear the thought of losing you.
Jax: You won't. Skye, you won't lose me.
Skye: Well, all right. Then you need to not -- to try to stay awake, ok? Get some sleep.
Skye: Sleep and get strong so we can get all of this behind us and we can get on with our married life.
Brenda: I should wish you were dead, but I don't. I can't, because I really understand now that life is precious. Anyone's life. And I don't know how much longer I have left, but I do know this is my last second with you.
Alexis: Oh, you.
Brenda: Alexis --
Alexis: Oh, I get it. I do. I get it now. See, this all makes sense because I couldn't for the life of me imagine what it could be that would make him want to destroy two people who had absolutely nothing to do with each other. See, now it all makes sense because it's all been about you, every single lousy thing.
Brenda: Yes. I'm sorry.
Alexis: Her name was Kristina. The woman that you killed in Sonny's warehouse. See, that was my sister. She was my only sister. She was beautiful. You know, she was loyal and she was strong and she had these crystal clear eyes that could see right through you, but they could just love you so much at the same time. We loved each other so much, and we depended on each other. And you took that away.
Alcazar: I don't know who you are, lady, and I'm sorry for your loss. But this has nothing to do with me.
Alexis: My name is Alexis Davis. I'm a lawyer. I'm a good lawyer. And I could take you through the system for what you did to my sister, but then why would I make the poor citizens of Port Charles, the good citizens of Port Charles pay with their hard-earned money to dispose of vermin like you? Besides, the wheels of justice move so slowly.
Alexis: I wonder what's in here. It must be very important. Maybe I could just disconnect it, or maybe I could just puncture it with a needle. How -- how can I turn you off as slowly and as painfully as possible?
Ned: Alexis. I know what you're going to do. Don't. Let me.
Jason: I tried to warn you. I told you that there would be things that I can't tell you. Come on, I didn't like that I was hurting you and I was keeping secrets from you, but lives were at stake, and that's just part of my job.
Elizabeth: Where does the truth fit in? Or the trust? I turned myself inside out to prove that I deserved both from you. And not only did you go and throw it in my face, you do something that makes it impossible for me to trust you.
Jason: Look, you -- you have a right to be mad, but just try to understand this has nothing to do with you.
Elizabeth: Uh-uh, no. Sorry. I'm -- I'm here and I'm in it and I count. You know what the ironic thing is? Is that you actually did tell me the truth. I just didn't want to hear it. When you kept pushing me away and you warned me about who you really are, I should have listened instead of making you up in my head. But you are Sonny's -- Sonny's enforcer, first, last, and always. I hope it's enough.
Ned: It's not that you don't have a right to put this animal down. It's just that murder doesn't look good on the resume of a mother-to-be who's running for D.A. But I, on the other hand, come from a family with a great tradition of getting away with murder. You see, I loved Kristina, too. I was going to marry her. So it wouldn't take much for me to flip a switch, pull a plug, or press this pillow against your smug, murdering face.
Alexis: Ned, put it down. Come on.
Ned: Sooner or later, in a dark hallway or in the privacy of your own home or a rank little prison cell, someone's going to make you pay.
Brenda: Yeah, I'm sorry. I was just checking on him. I didn't mean to bother you.
Skye: No, it's ok. I'm glad you're here. I'd like a moment with you alone.
Skye: I'm sorry if I was rude earlier, especially since I have you to thank for saving Jax's life.
Brenda: Oh, I don't know about that. Did he tell you everything?
Skye: Yes. Sounds terrible. I'm very sorry. You've -- you've been so brave.
Brenda: No. I really haven't been. Listen, I -- I wanted to let you know that I'm leaving town again and it's going to be a lot easier this time knowing that he has you and that he's in love and he's happy and he has someone looking out for him.
Skye: Well, you know, you can go in and say good night to him if you want. He's sleeping, but he's in and out. Maybe he'll wake up and you'll get a chance to say good night.
Brenda: Ok. I will.
Brenda: Good night, Jax. Get well, ok?
>> on the next "General Hospital" --
Elizabeth: I'm going to treat you like I barely know you, because I don't.
Alcazar: If you had just killed Sonny, everything would have been fine.
Brenda: Maybe you could talk to Skye for me, tell her that I'm not here to break them up.
Jax: I'm choosing between bleeding to death or possibly being paralyzed.
Monica: Things can go bad at any moment.
