>>Previously On General Hospital" --

Courtney: Sonny depended on you to support him. Why did you let him die?

Nikolas: I helped Luke escape.

Carly: I love you.

Sammy: I come to express my condolences on your loss.

Edward: A.J. could have gone to jail, but his wife made other arrangements.

Brenda: There's Jax. Jax!

Edward: Speak up, my boy.  You are so eager to air the family's dirty linen. Let's start with your own. Courtney has been taking off her clothes in front of paying customers five nights a week.

Skye: What business is it of yours what Courtney does?

Monica: What?  A.J., you can't need the money that desperately.

Edward: It's not about the money, Monica. Courtney did it in order to try to keep A.J. out of jail after this meathead, A.J...., come on. Just tell everybody here about the desperate straits that you put you and and your  family in.

Ned: I don't believe this.

Edward: Every word's true.

Ned: No. I believe that Courtney would strip to save A.J. I just can't believe you'd be so vindictive to throw it in her face.

Edward: Well, Ned, it's a simple statement of fact. The latest addition to the Quartermaine family is a waitress by day and a stripper by night and you don't like it, you blame A.J.

Courtney: You are a hateful old man.

Edward: That's right, A.J go to her. I don't know which of you two is the bigger disgrace.

A.J.: You evil bastard.

Edward: You're ashamed of your wife? Now if you'd paid more attention in the first place and gotten things right --

A.J.: I'm proud of my wife. It's you I'm ashamed of. That's it,  you blew it. You crossed the line. We are through.

Edward: Oh, no, young man we were through the minute you turned your back on us.

Lucky: Wait a second. Back up. You helped my Dad escape?

Nikolas: Yeah. He said I had the best chance of getting a way with it because no one would suspect me, all right?

Alexis: Before you go any further, why don't you just tell me exactly what you did.

Nikolas: Ok I followed the police van. Luke got Scott to stop somehow. How, I don't know. I passed him. I came back on foot, I knocked Scott unconscious

Alexis: So you assaulted a government official and then you helped a convicted felon escape.

Lucky: Ermyhew? La n'ow

Nikolas:  I have no idea. Listen to me, Lucky. Your father lied to you to protect you. He didn't want you in any more trouble than you're already into, and he figured I could get away with it.

Lucky: How do I know you didn't set him up?

Carly: Hndussintes nor . So if there's nothing else --

Sammy: You should understand, Mrs. Corinthos, this $2 million is a non-negotiable offer.  The five families are making what we consider a very generous offer.

Carly: Yeanred. Myba bess will continue if he were still in charge.

Sammy:  With all due respect, your husband's dead.

Carly: I know what my husband would want, and I will do what is expected. No one is going to touch Sonny's territories.

Sammy: It's already happening. The families are meeting tonight at the No Name to divide Sonny's holdings. There's nothing you can do.

Carly: Like hell there is.

Jason: It's ok. Are you ok?

Brenda: Yeah, I'm ok.

Jason: You were screaming.

Brenda: Yeah, it's -- my nightmares are getting worse. The medication used to help, so --

Jason: if you're supposed to take something, I can get it for you.

Brenda: I don't want any more drugs. I want out of here.

Jason: Trust me. I'm doing everything I can to make that happen. But if you need anything you just let me know.

Brenda: Would you leave? Please?

Jason: Wed et out ofe t ????

Carly: Ok, well, if Jason Morgan comes in, you tell him to call me. I don't care what time it is. Jason -- Jason, it's me a.

[Knock door]

Carly: Where are you? Where are you? This is really important. I am going out of my mind. I am so worried.

Elizabeth: Was that Jason? What's going on, Carly? Where is he?

Sonny: What happened?

Jason: She had a nightmare. Screaming, she's terrified -- part of her sickness.

Sonny: She's not taking her medication?

Jason: No, I offered it to her. She turns me down. She doesn't care about anything except for getting to Jax.

Sonny: You can deal with her.

Jason: No, I -- I can't. Let's just fly her to Puerto Rico. We can hold her in a suite at one of the casinos until this is over, Sonny.

Sonny: It's hard enough holding her against her will right, I'm not going to ship her out of town.

Jason: Just --

Sonny: What are talking about?

Jason: Just for a few days. That's it. You know how she is. She doesn't think. She's more trouble than we need right now.

Sonny: We are holding Brenda until Alcazar's out of the picture. And then she can do whatever she wants to do, which is probably going to go back to Europe. She'll never know I was alive.

Jason: Fine. I need a break. If she starts in on me again, I'm going to lose my mind.

Sonny: Ok. But, you know, I need you back here as soon as you can because there's nobody else I can trust to handle this.

Lucky: Yeah, well, you blame my Dad for everything that happened to our mother. This would be the perfect way to pay him back.

Nikolas: Do you realize how crazy you sound? It was not my idea to help Luke escape, all right?

Lucky: Oh, I'm supposed to believe he asked you for help?

Nikolas: Yeah, you should because he couldn't bring himself to ask you. Besides, I don't understand why in the hell you're making this a fight, man.

Lucky: Oh, I don't know. Maybe because, you know, my Dad's on the run and Mom's in an institution and my sister's at home not knowing what's going on, what to think, who's going to raise her.

Nikolas: Ok, wait a second. She is my sister, too. Now, listen to me one more time. I went to Luke to thank him for protecting our mother. I asked if there was anything else I could do, and this is what he came up with, so I did it. Besides, do you think if I was setting your dad up that he'd be wandering the streets? No, man, he'd be in jail. I did this for Mom, I did it for Luke, I did it for Lulu, and, most importantly, I did it for you.

Alexis: You can't honestly think that he's conspiring with Scott after everything that he's already done to you. He's in this thing up to his neck. Now, your father may have made what could be his last grand gesture. He may be on the run for the rest of his life, and I know very well that he doesn't want that for you. Is any of this sinking in?

Lucky: Yeah. I get it. My Dad's protecting me. He should've known better.

Alexis: You don't discuss this with anyone anymore. You don't say another word. You, either.

Nikolas: That's fine.

Alexis: Nobody knows about Luke's escape.

Lucky: You really think Scott Baldwin's going to buy that?

Alexis: I've already lied to Scott Baldwin, so, you see, I have put myself and my career on the line for you, so please don't make that an empty gesture. You just keep a low profile and you stay out of trouble because if you get into trouble again -- either one of you -- I will not be able to cover for you.

Lucky: Then you just promise me that you're not going to give up on my Dad.

Alexis: Nobody's giving up. I will take care of your Dad the best that I can, whether he wants me to or not. In the meantime, you both -- I'm not kidding -- you stay out of it.

Nikolas: You know I didn't set Luke up. You're just mad at me because he came and asked for my help instead of you.

Lucky: You're damn right.

A.J.: Nothing's beneath you -- even humiliating my wife.

Edward: She humiliated me, A.J., and you and the rest of the family -- a Quartermaine stripping in a dive at the edge of town.

A.J.: This isn't about a Quartermaine! It isn't even about Courtney. It's about me refusing to let you call the shots for my son. Well, that's it. You will never get near Michael. You understand me? Nowhere near him. I'm going to go find my wife. Excuse me.

Monica: A.J. -- A.J., wait a minute. Wait. Was this all true? Were you driving drunk?

A.J.: Yes. I plowed into a building. Thank God no one was hurt. You know what? Not true. Courtney was. The owner of the bar -- once he found out I was a Quartermaine, he was ready to press charges. But Courtney stopped him because she knew that I would go to jail if I got another D.U.I. So she -- she stripped instead to pay him off.

Ned: Why didn't you come to one of us?

A.J.: Yeah, like that was an option, Ned. It's worked so well in the past, right?

Monica: A.J., why didn't -- why didn't Courtney go to Sonny?

A.J.: Because she feels the way I do about Sonny -- he's the last guy you want to owe. So she decided -- she decided to do it herself. And she somehow got the strength each and every night to walk through those doors and humiliate herself for me. She did that for me.

Ned: Do you realize how you've trashed this girl's life?

Jax: Look, jumping on A.J. is only playing into Edward's hands. You know better than that.

Monica: Ned's right, A.J. None of this would've happened if you hadn't been drunk. Look what you have done to Courtney.

Skye: Oh, how dare you accuse him, standing there in judgment and making it sound so easy.

Edward: Oh, one drunk defending another. How 12-step.

A.J.: You know what? You go to hell, old man! My wife -- let me tell you something -- she has something you will never possess, and that is character, strength, grace. I wish I had half as much.

Edward: We all do, A.J.

A.J.: There's still time for me. It's way too -- way too late for you, old man.

Courtney: Hey --

man: Give it up before you get hurt!

Courtney: No!

Man: What, you're going to fight now? Think you're a tough girl?

Courtney: Get off of me, you pig!

Man: Oh, pig, huh?

Man: Oh!

Courtney: No! Get off of me!

Man: Think you're too good for me? Ooh! Ow!

Jason: All right. Now, you move an inch, and I'll break your neck. Give me your wallet. Here.

Courtney: I don't --

Jason: Courtney, take it!

Man: You're mugging me?

Jason: I know who you are. I know where to find you. If you bother this girl again or any girl and I hear about it, I will hunt you down and I will finish you.

Edward: Well, this has been a waste of time.

Skye: Oh, not so fast. See, I do have that announcement that I want to make, and it wouldn't mean nearly half as much if you weren't here. As you all know, Grandfather did his best to try to wreck my life and to poison my relationship with Jax.

Edward: As if I did anything that you hadn't already done before.

Skye: Oh, you're making this sweeter than I ever imagined. It is with great pleasure that I announce Jax and I will be getting married after all.

Jax: That's right. I proposed and Skye accepted.

Monica: Did she drug you?

Jax: Not the way you think, although I am quite delirious. I actually have to thank you, Edward. After all your manipulations, I finally realized how much I want Skye in my life. We'll be married by the end of the week.

Edward: Oh, you two deserve each other. I wouldn't miss this for the world.

Skye: Oh, yes, you will. Alexis, I'd like you to come. And Ned, too, and, of course, A.J. and Courtney are invited. But you, Monica -- well, I think you should join dear old Daddy back in Arizona. And you, Grandfather -- well, I think I agree with A.J. You can go to hell. I will have security guards with taser guns ready to shoot you to kingdom come if that's what it takes to keep you away from my wedding. You see, this is a celebration of new beginnings, and you two are just part of the same old, tired endings. Well, think that about covers it. What do you say we get something to eat, huh?

Jax: Sure.

Skye: Ok.

Jax: Bye-bye.

Nikolas: Luke had asked me to help because you had already been arrested, all right? Now, if anything -- and I mean anything -- would've gone wrong, Scott would've been all over you. It was a chance that your father did not want to take. Now, the fact is there weren't a lot of people that he could trust with this. It was not my decision. He asked me, and I helped. Besides, he wants you to be around for the family's sake, all right? They're going to need you now more than ever.

Lucky: I'm sorry. I was just looking for someone to blame. You don't deserve that.

Nikolas: No, it's -- it's fine. There's no problem with it. I mean, you're going to get your chance to be completely wrong, as I do.

Lucky: I appreciate everything you've done, but your part's finished. I'll take it over from here. Baldwin's been trying to do everything he can to break our family apart. Now I'm going to make him pay.

Carly: Ok ok ok, I just need to talk to Jason about something. Nothing has happened to him.

Elizabeth: How would you know if you can't get a hold of him?

Carly: I just know, ok?

Elizabeth: Please don't lie to me, Carly. Jason loves Sonny like a brother, and you know he's not going to stop until he finds whoever did this to him.

Carly: Ok, look, look, look, Jason is too smart to go running after the people who did this to Sonny, ok? If you don't know that by now, then I don't know what --

Elizabeth: Then where is he? Where has he been going every night?

Carly: It's business.

Elizabeth: What does that mean?

Carly: It means exactly what it sounds like. It is your all-purpose answer that translates into "do not ask any more questions." Look, Elizabeth, I know that you are worried and Jason is not being fair, but I cannot help you with this. Sonny is gone, and I wish to hell that I could ask him what to do right now, but I can't. Paulie, get the car and bring it around right now.

Paulie: Are you sure, Mrs. Corinthos? If you have an errand, I can get someone to do it.

Carly: No, just -- just do it.

Paulie: All right.

Carly: Elizabeth, I have to go.

Brenda: Jason? Jason, I need to talk to you for a second. Jason, look, I know that you don't care what happens to Jax, but I do. I just need -- I need to tell you one thing. Jason! Jason!

Brenda: Hello? Somebody there?

Brenda: Hello?

Brenda: Are you one of Sonny's guards? You know, I can see you moving through the grate. You're not very talkative, are you? You must be friends with Jason. Hi. I'm Brenda. What's your name? Oh, God, I am going crazy. Well, look, whoever you are, Sonny wouldn't have wanted me to be locked up, and he's watching us, you know. Jason blames me. I mean, he hasn't actually come out and said that, but I know that he does. Maybe it is my fault.

Brenda: I never wanted to hurt him or anyone. I just wanted to protect him. No matter what happened, I -- I always loved him.

Skye: I can't believe -- I can't believe that A.J. would risk his marriage -- his marriage -- what am I talking about? Risk his life by drinking again.

Jax: You know, I imagine that you understand this better than anyone.

Skye: I know. I know I did the same thing, but I pulled myself up and out of it and I know -- I know A.J. will, too. I know that.

Jax: Well, I just hope your faith is justified this time.

Skye: Hey, if -- look, if A.J. had the strength to keep himself from crawling back to the family -- which is the easiest thing in the world to do -- then I know that he has the strength to break free of them, ok? Look, I did.

Jax: Look, the Quartermaines are cruel and psychotic on a good day, but they are your family, Skye. I know this can't be an easy thing.

Skye: Not easy. Necessary. It is way past time that I broke free of them and I start over. And I can now because there's nothing lurking out there to wreck our relationship. There are no secrets, nothing that you don't know. Oh. God, listen to me going on and on. This must be so foreign to you, Jax. You are so lucky. You happened to be born to the sweetest, most loving parents in the whole world, who I hope, by the way, are coming to the wedding.

Jax: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, Mom and Dad will be here. I mean, I wouldn't let them miss it, even if we have to get married in the living room. You know, I'm sorry Rae can't make it.

Skye: Yeah. I know that Rae would be here if there was a way that she could.

Jax: Yeah, yeah, I'm sure she would be. You know, we got a lovely gift from your Grandmother in Pine Valley.

Skye: Oh, Jax, I don't care. Look, I have you, and that's -- that's all that counts, ok?

Jax: Well, then there's only one thing missing.

Skye: What are you talking about?

Jax: Oh, what did I do with it? Oh, here it is. Your engagement ring. That is, of course, if you still want to marry me.

Skye: Oh -- oh, just with all my heart.

Jax: Well, then, let's make it official.

Skye: Oh.

Jax: You think this is -- this is a ring that you could perhaps wear for, say, the rest of your life?

Skye: Oh, just you try and stop me. Oh!

Jason: It's ok. You're fine. No one's going to hurt you.

Courtney: Yeah. I'm ok, really. I think he just wanted money.

Jason: And he won't be back.

Courtney: Oh, God, it's just the way that he looked at me. It was like he could see right through me.

Jason: He was just trying to terrorize you to stop you from fighting him.

Courtney: What if he picked me because he knew that I was a stripper? Edward told your whole family tonight that I took my clothes off for money. I'm dirty, and that's what people see.

Jason: No, what -- what do you see? Someone dirty or someone strong enough to fight for the person you love no matter how much it hurt you?

Courtney: Edward, he just -- he made me look trashy and cheap and --

Jason: I know, because Edward -- he can't stand it that you didn't go crawling back to the Quartermaines begging for a handout. You're not afraid of him. You don't need him or his approval, and he hates it. He hates not having power over you, so he's trying to break you down. Don't let him. Don't let him break you down.

Courtney: You're Jason, right? Ice-cold, unfeeling, mob enforcer Jason who A.J. warned me doesn't care about anyone?

Jason: Is that what he said?

Courtney: He's wrong. He has to be. I mean, you've been so good to me, and I never even thanked you --

A.J.: What's going on here? Get the hell away from my wife.

A.J.: Courtney doesn't need you to guard her anymore, Jason. All you're doing is reminding her of a time she'd rather forget.

Courtney: A.J., please don't do this. You don't understand. He was just trying to help --

A.J.: It's a bunch of bull. Who do you think you're fooling? Hmm? After sitting at that club night after night, watching my wife strip? Why don't you show a little respect, Jason.

Courtney: You're not being fair, ok? If you knew what just happened here --

A.J.: What I do know, Courtney, is I just stood up to my entire family for you. I defended you. I fought for you. And when I come looking for you, what do I find? You're with my brother. How do you think I feel right now?

Jason: It's not Courtney's fault.

A.J.: No. It's yours.

Courtney: Ok, you know what? Let's just go home and I'll explain --

A.J.: No need. It's all clear.

Elizabeth: Jason

Jason: Elizabeth what are you doing out here?

Elizabeth: I couldn't stay cooped up any longer, and I'm going out of my mind worrying about you.

Jason: Did something happen?

Elizabeth: No, no, no, I'm fine. I came from Carly. She got me a little upset, you know, but I -- I heard what just happened, what A.J. said.

Jason: A.J.'s an idiot.

Elizabeth: Maybe. But is it true what he said about you and Courtney?

Skye: I can't stop smiling.

Jax: Well, that's a good thing, right?

Skye: Oh, my God, I'm a grinning idiot and I don't care! I like feeling this way.

Jax: You know, I have several ideas how to keep that smile on your face. First we pick a date and then the destination of your dreams, any continent you want to go.

Skye: Oh, Jax, I don't want to make any elaborate plans. I don't. I don't want to wait. I just want to get married. I mean, look what happened before when we waited, right? I -- I want to get married right here, right here in Port Charles -- where we are, where we met, where we live, ok? Something -- something simple. Oh! I go to a weekly meeting at the most beautiful little church -- St. Timothy's. Oh. Oh, God. What was I thinking? Sonny just got shot there. That's -- that's a bad omen.

Jax: I don't know. I mean, you know, Sonny -- Sonny hurt a lot of people while he was alive by taking away things that they cared about. So if you want to get married at St. Timothy's, then don't let him take that away from you.

Alexis: I hope things work out for Skye and Jax.

Ned: It will, as long as Skye can stay out of her own way long enough not to sabotage things. And speaking of sabotage, you missed all the fun earlier -- most of the Quartermaines in one place at one time.

Alexis: You make it sound like I was late for a hanging.

Ned: We had grandfather right over there at the battlements, firing away at Courtney and junior. And, of course, Monica was over in the trenches, ducking from the gunfire. Skye rode in on her white horse to save the day.

Alexis: I was late for a good reason. I got word that Luke escaped.

Ned: Why does this concern you?

Alexis: Because there's right and there's wrong, and this is wrong.

Ned: And are you sure that this fire you have to save Luke is really about right or wrong? Luke and Sonny had a lot in common. They were both outlaws and they both refused to listen to you, Alexis. Sonny ultimately rejected you, then got killed. Luke rejected you and got convicted. He didn't want to be saved any more than Sonny did. Sonny's dead. Luke is gone. It's time to move on.

Alexis: You think I can do that? Don't gloat.

[Ned chuckles]

Ned: Oh, at least give me a minute to gloat. Concentrate on the future. That's where the hope is.

Alexis: That's the best advice that you have given me yet.

Maitre d': Mrs. Corinthos, I'm sorry. We're hosting a private --

Carly: Gentlemen. Mr. Tagliati informs me that you are meeting to divide up my husband's territory. Well, you can move on to the next item on your agenda because I will be running my husband's business in his name.

Man: You have our condolences, Mrs. Corinthos. Now, if you'll excuse us --

Sammy: So we were discussing the south side --

Carly: As I was saying --

Brenda: I'm going to see him lying dead in the rain for the rest of my life -- however long that is. Oh. The only thing that matters to me now is protecting Jax. You know, Sonny would understand that. He knows what it's like to have a life on your conscience. I'd give anything to see him right now. I'd give anything to talk to him.

Jax: Hey. Forget about superstition, ok? It's not real. Just concentrate on us.

Skye: I will.

Jax: Yeah?

Skye: Yes. So we're getting married at St. Timothy's church, and we're going to spend our wedding night right here, where I have never been happier in my whole life, where I fell in love for real for the first time. And after a glorious night, we're going to pack and head to the south of France, hmm?

Jax: Ooh. I happen to know the perfect spot. I know this little town called Uzes. Right between Avignon and Nimes. It is the most beautiful, charming destination I can imagine.

Skye: Oh. So, this is real?

Jax: Oh, this is as real as it gets.

Skye: Oh, thank God.

Jax: You know, it probably won't be all peace and harmony. We will, you know, challenge each other, fight, argue.

Skye: And make up and --

Jax: Yeah?

Skye: Make love --

Jax: Make love.

Skye: For the rest of our lives. Hmm?

Jax: Yes.

Courtney: I was attacked, A.J. Jason saved me. How many times do I have to tell you that?

A.J.: I don't want to hear about Jason anymore.

Courtney: I could've been raped! I almost was! Why won't you just listen to me?

A.J.: It's ripping me apart. Don't you understand?

Courtney: I want to, ok? I would if you would just talk to me.

A.J.: Jason -- Jason saved you when I couldn't. Tonight, the strip club -- him, not me. Every time I turn around, it's Jason. Thank God for Jason, right? Must be how you feel. Why not? Everyone else does.

Courtney: Oh, it wasn't like that.

A.J.: He's perfect. I can't compete. Can't come close.

Courtney: The only person who thinks that is you, A.J. Now, if you can't get over it, if you can't see things for what they -- oh, I can't do this.

Jason: Courtney was just attacked.

Elizabeth: What happened?

Jason: I guess some guy grabbed her purse and he had a hold of her. I came in and I got rid of him.

Elizabeth: Oh. She's -- she's lucky you showed up.

Jason: Well, she shouldn't be down here alone. Neither should you. I'm going to take you back right now.

Elizabeth: Wait. Can you answer me first, please? I'm really sorry about, you know, what happened to Courtney, but right now, Jason, all I can think about is you. You barely have been home since what happened to Sonny, and I am so worried about you.

Jason: There's just a lot -- there's a lot going on with business.

Elizabeth: Carly said she called, she couldn't get a hold of you, either. Something else is going on, Jason. Something you're not telling me.

Jason: I'm sorry. I can't -- I can't tell you.

Elizabeth: Courtney must've been pretty grateful. Is that lipstick, or is that a smudge of blood or something?

Jason: Ok. Elizabeth, there -- there are things that I can't explain to you right now, and I'm sorry. Please, just let me take you back to the penthouse.

Carly: You gentlemen show a surprising lack of imagination. I am well-equipped to run Sonny's territory. I have people in place ready to carry out my orders. People like Jason Morgan. Any of you have a problem with the way that Sonny's territory has been run? He's kept the peace. He's settled disputes. And like I told Mr. Tagliati, nothing has changed. You can expect Sonny's business to continue smoothly with me in charge, and each of you can continue to expect the kind of money that you are used to making. You think this is some kind of opportunity for you? Don't, because you would be making a very big mistake. You make one move, you deal with Jason Morgan and then you deal with me. I trust we understand each other, gentlemen. The meeting is adjourned.

Brenda: Hey. You still in there? So, is there anything that I could do or say that would possibly make you go against your orders? Probably not, right? Of course not. That's what you boys do, right? You follow orders. "Oh, oh, I better not break the rules. I'm going to be in a ton of trouble." I feel bad for you. You know that? No matter how much time I spent with Sonny, I never understood you people. Isn't it weird how your whole life can just change just like that? Just in one moment. You know, one day I was walking on the pier. I was carrying my little suitcase. And this man walked up to me. He asked me if I needed any help.

[Music plays]

Sonny: Will you be my wife?

>> On the next "General Hospital" --

Elizabeth: It's a good thing your brother-in-law showed up when he did.

Courtney: I never really think of Jason as my brother-in-law.

Scott: Jason's going to take over Sonny's little throne.

Taggert: Not exactly.

Carly: You said that there was a woman here?

Rev. Dade: Yes.

Carly: And you'd never seen her before?

Roy: This long, slow walk through hell is about to end.
