General Hospital Transcript Wednesday 9/18/02
>> Previously on "General Hospital" --
Taggert: For once we want the same thing here. There's a war going on, Mrs. Corinthos, and one side was eliminated tonight. Help me take down the other.
Carly: You want to know who murdered my husband? His name is Alcazar.
Alcazar: It was good work.
Brenda: Where'd they take him?
Jason: To the morgue.
[Alexis turns on TV]
[Knock on door]
[Workout music plays]
Alexis: I didn't sleep so well last night. I'm a little hyper, so you're not going to believe this, but I was actually looking for this exercise program for mothers-to-be and I was going to exercise. I thought you were in New York.
Ned: Well, I -- I heard something on the car radio.
TV announcer: We're live in the WLPC newsroom with the latest on the gangland-style execution of reputed crime boss Michael "Sonny" Corinthos Jr. Corinthos was gunned down late last night in front of St. Timothy's Episcopal church in port Charles. Corinthos was apparently shot by a lone gunman who fled the scene and remains at large. Police comm. Mac Scorpio has scheduled a news conference for later this morning.
TV announcer: In recent weeks, one of Corinthos' warehouses was the scene --
Taggert: Keep your hands where I can -- get it up. Nice and slow, nice and slow. That's it. All right.
TV announcer: A bomb was determined to be the cause of that blast --
Taggert: I'm going to talk to you about Corinthos --
TV announcer: But, so far, no suspects have been named --
Taggert: And where you were last night.
TV announcer: We'll bring you the press conference live --
Bobbie: I -- my daughter hasn't made a decision yet. Yes, I will. I will -- I'll let you know.
Elizabeth: Is everything ok?
Carly: Something terrible happened last night. There was -- a shooting.
Carly: Um, Sonny. He -- he's dead.
Brenda: Are you really here?
Jason: Are you all right?
Brenda: Yeah. I was dreaming. Sonny was here, he was alive. He's dead because of me.
Jason: You didn't kill Sonny. Things were already set in motion before anyone knew you were involved.
Brenda: No, I should've called him, warned him on the phone, and just left. I never wanted him to see me sick and now he never will. He would've hated that. I never would've done that to him.
Carly: And he was, um, lying in the rain, and then the paramedics came and said they had to take him away.
Elizabeth: And Jason?
Bobbie: Jason wasn't there.
Elizabeth: Has he called?
Elizabeth: Have you tried calling him?
Carly: Look, Jason will call when he can.
Elizabeth: Well, what if he's hurt?
Carly: Ok, no, look, look, Jason is the one who called me to tell me about Sonny and he's fine, ok? He will come by when he can.
Elizabeth: I -- I think I need to go find him.
Carly: Elizabeth, don't, don't, ok? Look, Jason is out there and he's probably looking for the people who did this to Sonny or he is looking after his business. He doesn't need you running around asking questions and showing up where you don't belong.
Elizabeth: If Jason saw Sonny shot, he's not going to be thinking clearly, which means I need to do something --
Carly: Ok, ok, Elizabeth, just leave it alone!
Bobbie: Carly's right. Carly's right, honey. We need to stay out of this.
Elizabeth: You want Jason to go hunt down the person who did this to Sonny?
Carly: Listen, Elizabeth, if you care for Jason, if you really care for him and you accept his life, you will take this as your opportunity to prove it and just go back to the penthouse and wait for him.
Elizabeth: Ok. Ok, I -- I understand. I am so sorry about Sonny, Carly.
Elizabeth: I'll be across the hall if -- if you need me, ok?
Bobbie: We'll let you know if we hear anything.
Bobbie: It'll be ok.
Bobbie: You have been doing such a good job of holding everything in, but, honey, it's ok to let it out.
Carly: No, there's things that need to be taken care of.
Alexis: Maybe it's a mistake.
Ned: I called St. Timothy's on my way over here, and I spoke to the minister who administered last rites. He said the paramedics did everything they could. Apparently, he was shot several times in the chest and back. And I have a call in to Mac Scorpio. Look, I don't want you turning this television on. It'll only upset you. That's not good for the baby. Alexis, this is exactly why you didn't tell Sonny, because you wanted to keep your child away from the violence that surrounded him. You did the right thing.
Alexis: I have to get dressed.
A.J.: Why don't you stop cleaning.
Courtney: I live here. I like it to look nice.
A.J.: The place looks great. You kidding me?
Courtney: Well, it'll look even better when it's cleaned and vacuumed. And don't try to kiss me again. You're going to be late for work.
A.J.: You're ruthless. How'd I miss that?
Courtney: Get out of here.
A.J.: I'll see you later.
[Knock on door]
Courtney: You shouldn't be here.
Coleman: Look, I -- I just want to tell you I'm sorry. That's all.
Courtney: Ok, apology accepted. Now, go away, all right, or else I will tell my brother that you've been bothering me and, believe me, you won't like what comes next.
Coleman: You don't know yet?
Courtney: What my brother's capable of? Yeah, I do. And you -- believe me, you don't want to experience it firsthand.
Coleman: Your brother's dead. It's all over the news. Sonny was shot to death last night.
Officer: He's clean.
Taggert: Check the rest of the apartment.
Roy: Why are you here? You really want to know what happened to Sonny, you should be talking to Jason Morgan.
Taggert: Sonny took five bullets at close range. Somebody wanted to get the job done.
Roy: Somebody apparently got it done.
Taggert: They didn't see the witness.
Roy: So? You still have no reason to question me.
Taggert: Maybe I wanted to give you a heads-up. Confession gets you a lighter sentence. You know, whoever killed Sonny, I'd like to help them out if I could. As you know, I've been trying to get that little mob wannabe forever and, well, as far as I'm concerned, the city owes you a parade. You work with me, Roy, and I'll make sure you end up in a country-club prison and all these things you've worked so hard for will be waiting for you when you get out. I mean, you've had a taste of money. Now, you don't want to go back to slinging drinks and rousting deadbeats, right?
Felicia: Roy was with me last night, so you're way off base about him killing Sonny.
Jason: I'm going to go get her something to eat.
Sonny: How's she doing?
Jason: She's hurting.
Sonny: Um -- she was crying all night. Thanks for sitting up with her.
Jason: Are you going to tell her that you're alive?
Courtney: Did -- did the news say how it happened?
Coleman: He was at a church. Um, they think it was a single gunman. Apparently, this guy just -- just walked up to your brother and opened fire.
Courtney: No. Sonny has guards. You have to get past them to get into his house. He hardly goes anywhere by himself.
Coleman: I'm sorry, honey. I only know what I heard on the news. Sonny was alone in front of a church, and he was shot five times and died at the scene.
Courtney: What do I do? My God. I was terrible to Sonny. I kept telling him that I hated him. God, he tried to help me and I wouldn't let him. I -- I don't know what to do.
Coleman: Look, can I call somebody for you? I mean, your husband or -- what about the guy that -- that helped you off the stage that night? I mean, he worked for Sonny. Is he a friend of yours?
[Knock on door]
Mike: Courtney? Honey, it's Dad. How about some breakfast?
Courtney: He doesn't know.
Coleman: Ok -- ok, look, just stay here. I'll let him in and tell him.
Courtney: No, no, it's --
Courtney: I'm coming, Daddy.
Mike: Baby, is everything all right?
Courtney: Just a second.
Coleman: Um --
Courtney: Thanks for coming.
Coleman: Yeah, sure. Just let me -- let me know if you need anything. Ok?
Mike: Honey -- what happened? Is A.J. in some kind of trouble?
Courtney: Could you just sit with me?
Courtney: God. This is so hard to say --
Mike: Whatever it is, sweetheart, just say it.
Courtney: I'm so sorry, Daddy. Sonny's dead.
Taggert: So you were with Roy last night? From when to when?
Felicia: Until he brought me home a few hours ago. The person that you should be looking at is the owner of the yacht that exploded in the harbor. Alcazar is the one who blew up Sonny's warehouse and killed Kristina Cassadine. So it's easy to guess that Sonny retaliated by blowing up that yacht. Then Alcazar retaliated by killing Sonny.
Taggert: You know, it's funny because our records don't show that yacht belonging to anyone named Alcazar.
Felicia: He has an alias. He has 50 aliases.
Taggert: How do you know so much about this man?
Felicia: Taggert, if you want to know more about it, call Mac, have him check it out with the W.S.B..
Taggert: Oh, instead of investigating DiLucca here who has a long grudge against Sonny and -- did you know that he was previously convicted of lying in wait for a man and shooting him with a revolver? You do remember the Mitch Williams shooting, don't you, DiLucca?
Roy: Barely. That was a lifetime ago, Marcus, and I paid for it in full. If you're trying to connect that to what happened to Sonny, you're trying too hard.
Felicia: Roy's right. If you're focusing in on Roy as the prime suspect in this murder case, this is just going to be another case that the PCPD doesn't solve.
Taggert: I'm looking at everybody.
Taggert: Taggert. What's the address? Ok, I'll be right there. Well, we'll have to continue this a little later. You don't leave town.
Felicia: You got the wrong man, lieutenant.
Taggert: I don't think so.
Felicia: Oh, God. I can't believe we got involved in this in the first place. A person just doesn't give a stranger a million dollars and not expect something illegal in return. You killed Sonny Corinthos to save my life, and if I had never gotten involved in this in the first place, he'd still be alive this morning.
Roy: No, we have no way of knowing that. But I believe it's going to turn out all right, I really do.
Felicia: Well, my goodness, you're awful sure of that. We should've gotten rid of the money the minute we had it. We should've burned it in the back yard, but instead two people have died -- Kristina Cassadine, who never hurt anybody, and Sonny Corinthos, who had his own family. And now you have to deal with the fact that you pulled the trigger on him to save my life.
Roy: All of that is Alcazar's doing and no one else's.
Felicia: Alcazar. Oh, boy, he played us from the very start, didn't he? He knew that you had motive to kill Sonny. We got ourselves trapped in this whole thing and now Sonny's dead because of it. And nobody's pointing the finger at Alcazar, Roy, they're pointing the finger at you! You weren't supposed to show up here. When I came here, you weren't supposed to be here. Jason's coming after you, he's going to kill you!
Roy: No, he's not. I'm going to be ok.
Felicia: No, no, that's it. I am done with this whole thing as of right now. You can have the million dollars. I'm leaving town. I'm going to take Maxie and Georgie and I'm leaving.
Roy: No, no, no, wait --
Felicia: And I'm leaving you.
Roy: No, no, you got to trust me on this. The situation is not as bad as it seems.
Felicia: Why? Is Sonny alive? Did you not kill him?
Roy: Felicia -- Felicia, please don't --
[knock on door]
man: Ms. Davis to see you.
Carly: Let her in.
Alexis: I came to tell you that I'm sorry. Are you all right?
Carly: Can I get you anything? Did you eat breakfast?
Alexis: I'm fine.
Carly: Sonny would want you to take care of his child and worry about that and not what's just happened.
Alexis: Are you home alone?
Carly: My mom's going to be back in a minute.
Alexis: I can't help wondering if I had told Sonny about the baby if he would've taken greater measures to keep himself safe.
Carly: Oh. Yeah, I see. So if Sonny had known about this baby, then he would've had the incentive to live, where he didn't with Michael.
Alexis: That isn't what I meant.
Alexis: In light of what's happened, I think perhaps we should stop the lies and -- well, before someone else gets hurt.
Carly: What are you saying?
Alexis: I'm saying that we should tell the truth and acknowledge that the baby's father is Sonny.
Sonny: Brenda's been staying with Alcazar all this time?
Jason: He pulled her out of the water after her mother tried to kill her.
Sonny: Did she want to stay with him?
Jason: She says that she has the same disease that killed her mother, and she thought staying with Alcazar was better than you or Jax having to watch her go insane.
Sonny: What did she think she was going to do at the church?
Jason: I don't know. She heard -- she heard Alcazar tell Roy to kill you. She wanted to warn you and then just disappear, I guess.
Sonny: Why didn't she just get the guy she got to call me to warn me?
Jason: Because she wanted to see you, Sonny.
Sonny: Well, she did, and she thinks I'm dead. It's pretty clear what Brenda wants in her life. I'm -- you know, I'm not part of it, so the best thing we can do at this point is let her keep on thinking that I'm dead.
Jason: That's probably easier for everyone.
Jason: Ok. I'm going to get her something to eat.
Brenda: I'm so sorry.
Brenda: I'm so sorry.
Sonny: Fantastic job.
Roy: Thank you, man.
Sonny: Is Felicia all right?
Roy: Except for thinking I murdered you. How are you?
Roy: Well, we've come into a little complication with the plan. Apparently, Alcazar's girlfriend is someone you know -- Brenda Barrett. Felicia says the guy's obsessed with her. He's giving me a new assignment. I'm supposed to keep Jax under surveillance, intercept Brenda if and when she tries to get to him.
Sonny: Take out Jax and have Brenda delivered to Alcazar.
Roy: You know how the guy thinks.
Sonny: Well, when I found out that Brenda was involved, everything else fit. I figured out why he sent you after me and Jax, what he thought that he had that I wanted, why he would risk coming out in the open like that. He thinks it's worth taking a chance to hold on to Brenda.
Roy: Well, he's not taking any unnecessary chances right now. He's gone underground.
Roy: I'll tell you what, Sonny, he's not going to resurface until the woman does.
Sonny: We have her.
Roy: She came to you?
Sonny: I saw her five seconds before you pumped me with those five slugs into my Kevlar vest.
Roy: So she's the witness.
Roy: Taggert was at my apartment first thing this morning to question me. He said there was a witness to the shooting. I figured he was blowing smoke because he didn't haul me in for a line-up.
Sonny: Brenda's not going to be available to tell the police anything she saw at St. Timothy's. She's not going to go after Jax because she's going to stay right here under guard until we deal with Mr. Alcazar.
Jason: Are you going to eat? You need to eat.
Brenda: I'm leaving.
Jason: Brenda, you're not going anywhere.
Brenda: I'm going to go warn Jax about Alcazar, and then I'll come back, ok?
Jason: It's being handled.
Brenda: Yeah, like you handled protecting Sonny?
Jason: If you go to Jax, you're going to get him killed.
Brenda: I can't trust you to do it.
Jason: Alcazar knows you're going to head for Jax. He's going to keep him alive and just wait for you to show up. Brenda, it's a trap, ok? You walk into it and Jax dies, and you get grabbed by Alcazar. Is that what you want?
Brenda: I want Jax alive.
Jason: Then stay away from him. Just wait here, don't make trouble, and just let me handle this.
Brenda: And you think you can just keep me locked up here until then --
Jason: Well, you're not really giving me much of a choice, ok?
Brenda: You have no right to do that.
Jason: Well, that's fine. Don't try to get out.
Courtney: Coleman -- he said that he was shot five times.
Mike: Did he say which church?
Courtney: No. It's probably on the news. I can turn it on if you --
Mike: No, no, no. No. No, not yet. I'm not ready to hear them talk about my son like he's some kind of public menace, like he deserved to be shot down in the street. I'm not ready to hear editorials about how some mob boss came to a bad end.
Courtney: I wonder who shot him, why they did it.
Mike: They shot him because -- because Sonny never finished high school, he never went to college, he never got a law degree. Because when he was a little kid, he decided that he wanted to be rich and powerful, so he chose the life that he knew would give him what he wanted. Your brother died because he was Sonny Corinthos mob boss. And not the kind of man he could have been if I -- if he had a different life.
Courtney: He loved you, dad. That's why he was mad at you. Why am I only figuring that out now? Now when he's dead? I mean, God, I can't even tell him that I'm sorry.
Mike: Oh, baby. Sweetheart, you never hurt your brother. There's nothing for him to forgive.
A.J.: Hey. I'm so sorry. I am so sorry. Mike, I'm sorry, huh? I'm glad you're here. I heard on the radio.
Mike: Are you, A.J.?
A.J.: Yes, sir, I am. I am.
Mike: I'm going to the police station.
Courtney: You don't have to leave.
Mike: No, no, I -- I want to know what happened. I'm his father and I have a right to know. I want to know the truth about my son.
Courtney: I love you, daddy. Promise me you'll call.
Mike: Yeah, I promise, baby, I promise.
Carly: And now you want to admit that Sonny is the father of your child? Now that he's gone? Not when he was alive and he would have wanted to know. What are you going to say, Alexis? What are you going to tell people? "Oops, I made a mistake. Turns out Sonny's not cursed after all -- you know, now that he's safely dead and he can't pollute my child with all his evil, I'll lower myself, and I will admit that he is the father." Hmm? You know what, Alexis? You go ahead. You go ahead, and you do exactly what you want. You tell the world. Ok, but I think it's going to be a little awkward, don't you, considering that you've just been trashing him. But I'm sure you'll figure out some kind of way to go ahead and make it his fault. Blame him, yes. You know what? Tell the world that it was his fault that you lied in the very first place.
Alexis: I thought you wanted the truth to come out.
Carly: No, I wanted Sonny to know his child. You know what, Alexis? You do what you want, but you just know that if you go public with this information, that Sonny's enemies are going to know, because they're not gone just because he is. So you be sure that this is what you really, really want and that you're not just doing this so you feel like less of the hypocrite that you really are.
Alexis: I should go. I'm sorry for your loss.
Carly: Jason, tell me what happened in that church. What went wrong?
Carly: What happened? Why did you leave Sonny?
Jason: Has there been any contact from Alcazar?
Carly: No, nothing. Where have you been?
Jason: There's a lot to take care of.
Carly: Do you know anything about the woman? The woman that was supposed to meet Sonny? Do you? She was there, Jason. She was. The minister told the police that there was this dark-haired woman sitting in the church waiting --
Jason: Carly, Carly, none of this matters right now.
Carly: Was it the woman who was on Alcazar's yacht?
Bobbie: I am so sorry.
Jason: I appreciate you coming over for Carly.
Bobbie: I was hoping that I would be able to get her to come home with me, at least until after the funeral.
Carly: I'm not leaving my home.
Bobbie: Ok. All right. You want me to help with the arrangements? I realize neither one of you has probably had a chance to think about the funeral arrangements. I could call somebody.
Jason: It's actually all been taken care of. I spoke to the funeral director myself.
Bobbie: Oh, that's good. Thank you. If you want to give me the name, I'll give it to Father Coates. He's agreed to conduct the service. You just need to call him, tell him what you want.
Jason: Carly? Can you handle it?
Carly: I guess I have to.
Jason: I -- I'll stay.
Jason: I mean, if you need me to stay here --
Carly: No, just don't. Don't, don't -- it's ok. You do what Sonny would want you to do.
Jason: Well, I'm not going to leave unless I know that you're ok.
Carly: I'm ok. Really, I'm fine, all right? I've got my mom here, and -- Jason, I can do it. I can do it for Sonny.
Jason: All right. Now, listen, if you want to get in touch with me, contact me at any time, talk to Marco or whoever's posted outside, ok?
Carly: Yeah, I'm not --
Jason: And do not leave this house without a guard.
Carly: I'm not going to go anywhere, ok? I'm going to stay here, and I'm going to call Father Coates and I'll make the funeral arrangements.
Courtney: You were supposed to protect my brother. Why didn't you? How could you let this happen?
Roy: So we're just going to sit around and wait for Alcazar to resurface? That could take a while.
Sonny: Well, if you got a better idea, Roy, I'd love to hear it.
Roy: Well, I'm not sure that I do, but, I mean, Sonny, we got the guy on kidnapping, on two murder conspiracies. Kristina is dead.
Roy: I mean, in a perfect world, somebody could take that to the authorities.
Sonny: Jason said the night that the warehouse was bombed, they took you in -- cops, but they didn't book you.
Sonny: Was that Alcazar, huh?
Roy: Yeah, that was Alcazar. I realize that the PCPD is useless, but what if we tried to feed the guy to the feds?
Sonny: Roy, the man's an arms dealer. Only way to survive in that profession is if you're useful to someone, probably a government agency. You got to listen to me now, ok? The only way to stop Alcazar is to force him to make a mistake. Now, Jason is going to do the best he can with Carly, but unfortunately, Felicia's going to have to keep believing that you murdered me. There's no other way without losing the advantage we have on Alcazar. So your job is go along with Alcazar, let him keep thinking that you're looking for Brenda. Jax is going to be safe until this guy has her.
Roy: I can handle that, but you're going to have to handle this -- if Brenda gets away --
Sonny: She won't.
Roy: Something new happened?
Felicia: I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry I treated you like that.
Roy: What? What? What?
Felicia: You made the ultimate sacrifice. You took another life for me.
Courtney: Sonny depended on you to protect him. Why weren't you with him and why was he alone? God, what is the point of all this security -- the guards and the limos -- if some man can just walk up to my brother in front of a church and shoot him? Why couldn't you save him? Why couldn't you -- God, why did you let him die?
Jason: I'm -- I'm sorry.
Courtney: I know it's not your fault. I know that you would have done anything for him, but I have been wanting to go to Sonny and thank him, but, God, I yelled at him for sending you to look after me. I know now -- I know that he only did it because he loves me. Now I can't thank him. But it is not too late for me to thank you and to tell you how grateful I am.
A.J.: With Sonny gone, I want to re-establish my parental rights to my son, Michael.
Carly: Thank you, Father Coates. It helps a lot just knowing that you'll be there. Ok.
Carly: Father Coates said that he could do the funeral tomorrow evening, and I told him to designate the Stone Cates aids wing in case anyone wants to make a memorial donation.
Bobbie: You know, I'm sure that Father Coates would be available later in the week if you want to wait.
Carly: So the media can turn it into some kind of public event and just crash the funeral and write a whole bunch of lies about Sonny? No. Forget it.
Bobbie: Carly, I know what you're doing. You're burying yourself in all of the details, and sometimes that does make it easier, but I know how much you loved Sonny, and I know how much you're hurting right now.
Bobbie: It's ok, honey. It's good to let it out. It's ok.
>> On the next "General Hospital" --
Luke: I've got this all covered, but I need your help.
Mike: Wait a couple of days for the funeral.
Carly: I can't.
Taggert: Who released Corinthos' body to the funeral home?
Brenda: Sonny is dead because I didn't tell him the truth, and I will not let that happen to Jax.
