Felicia: You need leverage against Roy. Use me.

Roy: Alcazar has your Mom?

Skye: You knew how much I loved him and I would never do anything to hurt him. Now you tell him!

Luke: Your shifty old Daddy's got no intention of going to prison.

Guard: You belong to Mr. Alcazar.

Brenda: Oh, forget about Alcazar. I'm not a piece of property.

bailiff: All rise. This court is now in session, the honorable Phillip Newhoff presiding.

Judge: Be seated. I believe we can dispense with this matter quickly. In the case of the people of the state of New York vs. Lucas Lorenzo Spencer in the death of Dr. Rick Webber, the court rules as follows. The defendant --

Alexis: Your honor, excuse me. May I approach?

Judge: Ms. Davis.

Alexis: Thank you. Yes, your honor, thank you.

Judge: You are no longer counsel of record in this matter.

Alexis: Which is precisely the issue that I'd like to address. I would like you to reinstate me as the defendant's counsel.

Luke: I object. Your honor, I don't want an attorney. I already fired her. Please, just keep her away from my case.

Judge: Quiet, Mr. Spencer. I will not tolerate unruly outbursts in my courtroom. Do it again, I'll have you gagged.

Alexis: I've prepared a brief for your perusal. It states that Mr. Spencer is under extreme emotional duress and is not competent to represent himself. Mr. Spencer is not acting in his own best interest because he is too intent on protecting the woman that he loves.

Roy: You hear me on this. Until I know Felicia's all right, you've got nothing to tell me I'm the least bit interested in. And I certainly won't be killing Sonny Corinthos.

Alcazar: You're a chronic time waster, DiLucca. You've been dragging your feet all along. If you'd simply followed my instructions from the beginning, we wouldn't even be in this situation. Believe it or not, I'm not in the business of hostage taking.

Roy: Really? Now, that's remarkable, given how good you are at it.

Alcazar: Understand something. This is not a negotiation. The bottom line is this -- the sooner you take care of Corinthos, the sooner Felicia will be released.

Roy: I'm not going to do a damn thing for you until I talk to her. That's not negotiable, either.

Alcazar: Yeah, put her on.

Felicia: Alcazar? What's going on?

Alcazar: Your partner wants reassurance you're still alive. I'm going to let you give it to him.

Roy: Are you ok?

Felicia: Not bad for a hostage.

Roy: Tell me the truth.

Felicia: I'm fine, really. Tell me about the girls. They must be scared out of their wits.

Roy: No, no. No, they're staying with Bobbie and they're ok. Don't you worry. You hear me? I'm going to get you out of this. It's --

Alcazar: Enough. And that's the last time you'll have contact with her until Corinthos is dead.

Roy: You want to explain something to me? I know -- I know -- you have men on your payroll for the express purpose of assassination. Why the hell did you pick me to do this?

Alcazar: You fit the bill. A man with a grudge and reasons of his own to want Sonny Corinthos dead. And besides, I made a promise to somebody I care about I wouldn't touch him, and I intend to keep that promise.

Roy: You have any idea how difficult it's going to be to kill that man?

Alcazar: Find a way. Unless you don't mind trading Felicia's life for a two-bit thug's.

Roy: This is like a dream I can't wake up from. You had no right and it wasn't necessary for you to threaten Felicia or her girls! You already know I'm going to do what you want me to do!

Skye: Get out of my way, you meathead. I need to talk to Sonny.

Max: Mr. Corinthos isn't home.

Skye: I don't believe you. And I won't be pushed away by some hired hand, so I need to see Sonny now.

[Carly sighs]

Carly: All right, max is right. Sonny isn't home, and I'm in no mood to have a visit from the snake who stole my club, so you can go.

Skye: Carly. Well, you'll do just fine. Look, I need five minutes, ok?

Carly: Sorry, I don't have it. Max will show you to the elevator.

Skye: Oh, come on -- look, I know you don't owe me anything, all right? But I wouldn't be here if I weren't desperate, ok? I am worried about the man that I love, Carly. I know you can relate to that. All right, just five minutes, that's all I'm asking.

Carly: Fine.

Skye: Thank you.

Carly: All right, as you can see, I'm busy doing something, so I would appreciate it if you got to the point.

Skye: I don't know where Jax is, ok? His cell phone's been turned off, no one's seen him, and as far as I can tell, he hasn't been called off on any unexpected business because his plane is still on the tarmac. Other than that, I have no idea where he might be.

Carly: Are you always like this? All freaked out when you lose track of Jax for half a second? Maybe he needed a breather.

Skye: I wish it were that simple. I believe that Jax is involved with whatever's going down between Roy and Sonny, ok? Now, Kristina was the first casualty -- the one that we know of, anyway. I am scared to death that Jax may be next.

Sonny: I thought I'd find you here.

Jax: What, you having me followed now?

Sonny: Yeah, as a matter of fact, I am. Brenda's cottage on the anniversary of her death. You think you're ready to say good-bye now, Jacks?

[Knock on door]

Brenda: Who is it?

Alcazar: You must be bored silly. I brought you a few things to occupy the time. I picked up the latest issues of all your favorite magazines, a couple of plays. I know how you like to read aloud. Your c.d. Player, a few c.d.'s.

Brenda: Are we pretending like nothing's wrong? You going to let me out of here now?

Alcazar: We're weighing anchor tonight. My business in Port Charles is at its end.

Brenda: At its end? Well, what are you so smiley about? I mean, what is your plan?

Alcazar: Just doing what you wanted, darling -- making sure both Corinthos and Jax will never find you again.

Brenda: I -- I think maybe I should clarify a few things so there's no misunderstanding about what it is that I want.

Alcazar: By all means.

Brenda: When we first met, I told you the only reason I was staying with you was to protect the people that I love.

Alcazar: We don't need to discuss that.

Brenda: We do need to discuss, Luis, the fact that my mother giving me this illness is the very foundation of our relationship. You know I gave up everything to make sure that Sonny and Jax would never be hurt by this. I mean, this could get really bad for me. You know, I could try to kill somebody the way my mother tried to kill me. Now, I chose to stay away from there. I chose to accept your help.

Alcazar: I don't need to be reminded that you didn't stay with me out of love. Unless you're saying you regret it now.

Brenda: I'm so grateful for the life we've had together, but you're just -- you're just so different. And I don't really enjoy being your prisoner.

Alcazar: It's only temporary and it's for your own good. You have to trust me to know that. I know you're unhappy, and I intend to change that. That's why we're sailing tonight. I'm going to get you away from port Charles, give you back your freedom, and we can go on with our lives.

Brenda: Ok. And you're not going to hurt Sonny and Jax, are you?

Alcazar: Sonny leads a dangerous life. Jacks takes other kinds of risks. I can't guarantee that some kind of misfortune won't come to either one of them. But not by my hand. You have my word.

Sonny: I never been here before.

Jax: Yeah, well, that's why Brenda loved this place so much -- no reminders of you.

Sonny: Yeah, right, Brenda's blissful, Sonny-free existence. How long do you think that lasted? Where do you mark its start? The day Brenda had a nervous breakdown? The time you guys got engaged? When her mother came into town? You remember her mother, right? The crazy lady who drove her off a cliff while you watched?

Jax: How easily you twist the facts. It's a gift, isn't it? Your ability to rewrite history to suit yourself. Yeah, as long as you can keep on blaming me for Brenda's death, then you don't have to remember all the hell you put her through. Or did you let yourself conveniently forget?

Sonny: I don't make a career out of mourning Brenda's death like you do. I don't make special trips on the anniversary of her death to her cottage.

Jax: Then there is no reason for you to be here.

Sonny: You know what, Jacks? I don't have to justify myself to you. But, yeah, I loved Brenda, she loved me -- way before you came around.

Jax: Yeah. You know, your love almost cost her her sanity.

Sonny: And yours cost her her life. Does that make us even?

Skye: A cottage in the woods?

Carly: Yeah, a sappy little two-story. I don't know, there may even be a picket fence. Who remembers?

Skye: And, what, it's just been sitting there inviolate all this time like some kind of shrine?

Carly: Well, not exactly. There have been other people who've lived there since Brenda. Nikolas Cassadine. Even me. I lived there with Jason and Robin. Talk about an exercise in torture. But anyway, yeah, it was Brenda's house first. And then Jax practically moved in there. He lived with her. And this being the anniversary of her death, he probably just went over there to think about her in private.

Skye: Why should I believe you?

Carly: Don't, ok? You are the one who came here demanding answers.

Skye: Look, I'm just saying we don't know for a fact that he's there.

Carly: Yeah, actually, I do, ok? Because I overheard one of Sonny's men tell him. Will you go, please?

Skye: Carly, look, I need to know something. No one else is going to tell me the truth, but I have a feeling that you will. You knew Brenda. You saw Jax with her. How were they together?

Carly: Well, I'm sure that's been a burning question for you.

Skye: Will you be straight with me?

Carly: Well, can you take it?

Skye: Do I have a choice?

Carly: As far as I can tell, Brenda's the only woman that Jax has ever loved or ever will.

Judge: Congratulations, Ms. Davis. This is a fine piece of research.

Alexis: Thank you, your honor. I'm sure you can see from that that I --

judge: Unfortunately, your argument doesn't hold up. Not only has Mr. Spencer freely waived his right to counsel, but his considerable police record clearly indicates he is familiar with the workings of the criminal justice system. Mr. Spencer knows all the reasons why he should have a lawyer. He's chosen not to. He gets to do that. And though your argument is quite compelling, Ms. Davis, you are not a psychiatrist and, therefore, not qualified to render an expert opinion on Mr.. Spencer's state of mind.

Alexis: I understand, but, your honor, I know the defendant, I have --

judge: Your motion is denied. Mr. Spencer, please stand. Based on your confession and plea of guilty in the matter of Rick Webber's death, this court finds you guilty of murder in the second degree. We will adjourn and reconvene for sentencing in one hour.

Bailiff: All rise.

Carly: You wouldn't have believed it. Here he was, this big-deal, hotshot financier, or whatever the hell he calls himself. And he's got women just falling all over him. And he lets this spoiled little rich girl play him like a bongo.

Skye: You think Brenda used Jax?

Carly: I know that she did. I mean, I saw it. It was like pinball back and forth. It was Jax and Sonny and Jax and Sonny.

Skye: Yeah, but she ended up with Jax.

Carly: Only because Sonny left her at the altar. Yeah, literally. There she was -- Brenda was all dressed in lace, she walked down the aisle, and she waited for Sonny, and he never showed.

Skye: Ooh. How awful.

Carly: Well, not really -- I mean, not for long, at least, because -- surprise, surprise -- Brenda, she went straight to Jax, and Jax took her back. He was only too happy to take her back because he always did. In his eyes, Brenda was perfection. She could lie to him, run off with Sonny. She could have public mental breakdowns, and Jax didn't care because -- because she was it for him.

Skye: What about Sonny?

Carly: What about him? He's with me.

Skye: Yeah, but don't you ever feel like maybe you're just a Brenda substitute? I mean, someone that Sonny settled for because he lost Brenda for good?

Carly: Ok. Well, I would make a pretty lousy Brenda substitute, ok? Because I wasn't born rich or spoiled within an inch of my life. I'm not pampered. I'm not petted or miserable. Ok, but it's taken me a little while, but I have gotten here to this point and I understand. Look, Brenda is someone Sonny loved once, but he loves me now.

Skye: Well, thank you, Carly. You've been very informative.

Carly: 860 birch tree lane.

Jason: You're here. Let's go.

Carly: Where?

Jason: We're meeting Sonny.

Brenda: Do you smell that?

Alcazar: Gasoline.

Brenda: Ugh. It smells awful. I think I might throw up.

Alcazar: The engine room's on the other side of this wall. Those pipes are fuel lines. Fuel tank's been filled up in preparation for departure. Won't be long now.

Brenda: Well, I was thinking --

Alcazar: Mm-hmm.

Brenda: Since I have the honor of you guarding me yourself today, I thought maybe we could go back to your office and actually breathe air.

Alcazar: You'll have all the fresh air you can manage in a few hours. In fact, I'll even ask the staff to prepare our anniversary meal out on the deck if you like.

Brenda: Because it's been four years?

Alcazar: Yes.

Brenda: Yes.

Alcazar: I've always been grateful I couldn't sleep that night. Walking on the deck, looking at the water, and there you were.

Brenda: You know, I don't remember you finding me. All I remember is waking up in a strange, beautiful bed, surprised to be alive.

Alcazar: You weren't meant to die that night. You were meant to live with me. We've had a very good time. You wouldn't deny that, would you?

Brenda: No, never. You've given me an amazing life. You've been wonderful to me.

Alcazar: It's only the start.

Brenda: I am happy with you. I just don't want my happiness to be at the expense of someone who loves me.

Alcazar: Don't worry. My business in Port Charles is almost complete. In the meantime, look out over the city and say your good-byes. It's likely to be the last time you ever see Port Charles.

Sonny: Carly. Thanks for bringing her.

Carly: Hey.

Sonny: Hey.

Jason: You sure about this?

Sonny: Let's just say I'm tired of waiting.

Carly: I don't understand. Why did you have Jason bring me down here?

Sonny: Yeah, I want Alcazar to see both of us.

Carly: Ok. So is that his ship out there?

Sonny: He needs to know that we're not hiding, and his -- it's his move.

Carly: All right. Well, just remember, you need to be careful, because you promised to spend the rest of your life with me. I'm holding you to it.

Sonny: Yeah.

Lucky: Thanks for coming.

Nikolas: You bet.

Lucky: I know your feelings for my father are mixed, to say the least.

Nikolas: Listen, this is not about Luke for me. It's about you. I'm here for you. I'm sorry. This has to be excruciating.

Lucky: He didn't do it, Nikolas.

Nikolas: I know that. Look, I'm going to go check on Gia. You all right?

Lucky: Yeah, I'm fine.

Nikolas: Good.

Alexis: I thought you'd be in with your father.

Lucky: We've already said everything that matters.

Alexis: Evidently not, since he insisted on pleading guilty to murder.

Lucky: I know you want to be his attorney, and I appreciate that. I know he appreciates that, too, but he does know what he's doing.

Alexis: That's just it, Lucky. No, he doesn't. He seems to be focused on one thing, and that's protecting your mother. And he doesn't seem to be able to grasp the concept that second-degree murder can put him in prison for the rest of his life.

Lucky: No, see, that's the max sentence. The judge must be able to see that there was extenuating circumstances.

Alexis: I've been in judge Newhoff's courtroom many, many times, and I can assure you that he does not see the nuance when it comes to murder. He could have found your father guilty of a lesser charge -- manslaughter, for instance -- but he didn't do that. Lucky, this isn't some grand, sweeping, romantic gesture on your father's part. This is what's left of his life. And since I can't get him to understand that, you need to. You need to go in there and you need to tell him to let me petition the court to set aside his confession, change the plea, and grant a trial. It's not too late to save him. So are you going to help me try?

Luke: I got nothing to say to you.

Scott: Well, then shut up and listen to me. You have the right to address the judge before sentencing. If I was you, I would throw myself on the mercy of the court and explain that Rick was trying to hurt Laura, and you were trying to protect her, and killing Rick Webber you deeply regret.

Luke: What is this? Huh?

Scott: I'm just trying to save you from Sing Sing, Spencer.

Luke: Because we're such good friends.

Scott: Just a little piece of advice.

Luke: Oh, I get it. Sure, sure, you're trying to win points with Bobbie by telling her you came up with this great advice for me at the 11th hour. Look, this is transparent and lame, even for you, Baldwin.

Scott: Look, as far as I'm concerned, they can fry you up there, Spencer, but I do care about your sister. I know it would kill her to see you go away to prison for the rest of your life. So stop being such a fool and just think about it. Beg the court for leniency if you give a damn about your sister at all.

Lucky: Thanks.

Luke: Well, imagine this -- somebody I actually want to see.

Scott: Think about it.

Luke: Yeah.

Luke: Jackass. It is real good to see you. But if you're here to, you know, make one more heartfelt appeal for me to change the plea, save your breath. I might just have to come across this table and kill you, too.

Lucky: Yeah. That's really funny.

Luke: Yeah.

Lucky: That's not why I came.

Luke: Good.

[Lucky sighs]

Lucky: You know, all my life, we've had a backup plan. And you've been up against it more times than I can count. But there was always that angle. You know, there was always that way out. I know you're going to find a way out of this, too. But I want you to know more than anything that I believe in you. And I've got your back, no matter what.

Judge: Mr. Spencer, before I pronounce sentence, is there anything you'd like to say?

Luke: Yes, your honor. The night before I was to be married to my wife for a second time, I found her in the attic of an old garage. She was backed up against the wall, fearing for her life from a man she considered her father. She was screaming, she was cowering. And as Ms. Davis pointed out, I acted to protect her. I took a candlestick. I swung it at Rick Webber's head. I didn't mean to knock him out or stun him. I meant to kill the bastard so he'd never hurt my wife again. I'm not sorry for what I did. I don't regret it. And if I had to do it over, I would, gladly.

Judge: There are a lot of men who love their wives, Mr. Spencer. Fortunately, most don't feel compelled to kill for them. But taking into consideration your long history of criminal activity, your contempt for the law, your detailed confession, and your utter lack of remorse, this court is imposing the maximum penalty for second-degree murder. I hereby sentence you to life in prison.

[Judge pounds gavel]

judge: This court is adjourned.

Skye: Jax? Jax?

Skye: Surprise.

Jax: What are you -- what are you doing here?

Skye: Well, your cell phone was turned off, and no one had seen you. I got worried, and Carly, of all people, told me that -- that you were here.

Jax: Well, I just needed some time by myself.

Skye: I understand. Carly explained to me that today is the anniversary of Brenda's death, and, well, I tried to honor that, I really did, to leave you out here alone so you could mourn your perfect love.

Jax: But you chose not to.

Skye: No. No, and maybe that makes me the world's biggest idiot to force myself on you on today of all days. And maybe -- I don't know -- maybe that's just my role as the imperfect lover. Maybe I'm just paving my own way out the door. I don't know -- I could still be your most disastrous mistake. I mean, we still haven't quite figured that out yet. I'm hopelessly insecure. I'm my own worst enemy.

Jax: You're rambling.

Skye: Yes. Yes, I ramble. Love is a new experience for me, ok? And so far, I couldn't have handled it worse. But now that I've felt it, Jax, I can't give it up. I love you. Not perfectly, God knows, but with all my heart. And I'm going to prove that to you, no matter how long it takes. I love you, and someday, you are going to love me back.

Jason: That yacht's been refueled. It looks like Alcazar's getting ready to leave the harbor.

Sonny: Is he onboard?

Jason: Not for the last few hours, and we don't know where he went.

Sonny: What about the staff?

Jason: The woman?

Sonny: Yeah.

Jason: Was taken off the ship yesterday.

Sonny: Hard to believe Alcazar's giving up.

Jason: I don't think he is. Ok? Alcazar went to a lot of trouble to come after you. He's a professional. He does not scare easy. Alcazar won't quit. I think he's going to keep going until he gets what he wants.

Sonny: Makes sense. But what doesn't, is Jacks' part in all this. I mean, I -- maybe I don't see the connection because I hate him so much. And I know Brenda's dead and long gone, but every time he says her name, I want to -- I just want to kick his face in.

Jason: Wait -- how did Brenda get in this?

Sonny: Brenda died four years ago today. Actually, Jacks let her die. The big blond idiot couldn't keep her safe, and a light went out -- in her life, in mine. I try not to, but I got to tell you something. I can't help but think what she went through that night. Was there a moment, you know, when she realized she was going to die? I told you I'd die seeing Brenda's face. I just wonder if she died seeing mine.

Brenda: Oh, God, please let this work.

Scott: Congratulations, Spencer. Enjoy the rest of your miserable life in a five-by-seven cell. Of course, when you get bored, you can regale all of your new friends with your big adventures. Guard, get me out of here!

Luke: Is my cell ready yet?

Lucky: Nobody's locking you up.

Lucky: Say hello to the cavalry.

Alcazar: Damn it! The ship is starting to list. It's going to sink. We have to find a way out there. She could be trapped onboard.

Jax: So you're going to love me whether I like it or not? I don't get a vote?

Skye: Not in how I choose to conduct myself from here on out, no. I suppose you could do something despicable to shake my faith and break my heart, but it would have to be, a, unforgivable, and, b, something I've seen with my own eyes. Never again will I take someone else's word about wrongdoing on your part. Yes, I may be irrational, I might have irrational thoughts, because that's part of who I am, but -- but it's different now, Jax, because I know you now. I know when you say something, you mean it. When you make a commitment, you don't break it. And I am going to convince you to make another commitment to me. That's what I came to say, so, I'll leave you in peace.

Jax: Skye. I've done all the looking back I need. And I accepted living without Brenda a long time ago. I even managed to get on with my life. Then you showed up. Difficult and so compelling, you made me drop-kick this peaceful life I thought I had for this -- for this messy one that included you. Next year on this day, you won't have to come looking for me. I won't be in this house because I will be with you.

Skye: Can we go home now, please?

Jax: Yeah. Yeah, we can go home.

Carly: What are you looking at? As if I didn't know.

Sonny: Alcazar's yacht's on fire.

Carly: What? You're kidding.

Sonny: There was an explosion a few minutes ago. I had Jason go check it out. I didn't do it. Might have been Roy -- you know, he's a demolition expert.

Carly: Well, maybe this is the thing that will make Alcazar go away.

Sonny: Well, I guess we're just going to have to wait and see.

Carly: Yeah. Hey. Was it hard for you today? Being at Brenda's cottage?

Sonny: Well, I hated seeing candy boy there, but, you know, Brenda's house doesn't mean anything to me. I mean, you know, I never saw her there. I can't picture her there.

Carly: But you've been thinking about her?

Sonny: Yeah.

Carly: Missing her? Honey, it's ok.

Sonny: What --

Carly: Hey, you're allowed, you know?

Sonny: You know what I learned from Brenda's death?

Carly: What?

Sonny: You can't save the people you love by pushing them away. All you do is miss the times you could have had. Sometimes I forget that. And I think I can protect you by sending you away, by distancing myself, but that's not true. I love you now, I have you, and the rest is all stories you tell yourself, you know? Promises you can't hope to keep.

Carly: Ok. Well, we have this moment. And we have the future.

Sonny: Yeah?

Carly: Yeah, and those aren't mind games and stories. It's just what we've decided to choose for ourselves together. And you know what? Don't worry because I'm never going to let you push me away for my own good or for any other reason.

Brenda: Hello!

Help! Come on!

>> On the next "General Hospital" --

Lucky: I'm not leaving here without you.

Jax: You've worked so hard to stay sober. I don't want to be the reason you drink.

Alcazar: I'm not done with you yet.

Carly: I have a really bad feeling about this.

Brenda: Help!
