>> Previously on "General Hospital" --
Michael: My father's name is Sonny.
Les: Alexis has gotten very expensive.
Carly: What if I toss in 100 grand?
Jax: She embezzled $100,000 from the club.
Edward: You did the right thing signing on with me to torpedo Jax.
Zander: I don't want to die without kissing you.
Taggert: E.L.Q.? How does that figure into it?
Jason: I don't know yet. Taggert offered to help and I'm going to take him up on it.
Edward: Things are working out rather nicely.
Skye: I'm so glad you're pleased.
Edward: Aren't you?
Skye: I'd say A.J.'s drinking took the edge off the festivities.
Edward: Hmm, his falling off the wagon merely confirms the fact that I made the right choice in naming you sole heir -- once you have proven yourself by double-crossing Jax, of course.
Skye: Of course.
Edward: See, A.J. is -- he's very weak and self-destructive. And his pathetic whining about how we always just favor Jason -- it's getting very tiresome. And, of course, once he started drinking, I thought, "That's it. Enough's enough."
Skye: Your sympathetic attitude is heartwarming, Grandfather.
Edward: Oh. Well, you see, all -- all of these are working to your advantage, Skye, since you're the only grandchild with any backbone left and I can count on you to be tough and follow through.
Skye: Don't worry. I'll carry my part of the deal.
Edward: I'm not worried in the slightest. You're nobody's fool you have your eye on the big picture, young lady, and you'll do whatever it takes.
Skye: To an extent.
Edward: What's that supposed to mean?
Skye: Look, I will play the adoring, weak-kneed girlfriend to Jax while you take him down, all right?
Edward: Then we're in agreement.
Skye: But I refuse to sling beer at his ridiculous nightclub.
Edward: Oh, come on. Who said anything about slinging beer?
Skye: Jax did. He actually thinks that I'm going to manage his nightclub.
Edward: Oh. Oh, God. You? Pressing the hands of the hoi polloi? Trying to force a smile for every Tom , Dick , and Harry that comes through those doors? Come on.
Skye: This is not amusing.
Edward: Well, it sure as hell won't be dull.
Skye: Jax is throwing me a bone here, Grandfather. I have no intention of accepting his stupid offer.
Edward: Oh, yes, you will.
Sonny: Carly did not embezzle money from you.
Jax: She took $100,000 from the club. I have the accounting to prove it.
Sonny: Anybody could doctor books.
Jax: Sonny, this is serious.
Sonny: You know what's happening here, Alexis, as well as I do.
Alexis: Do you?
Sonny: Your client set Carly up.
Jax: No, Carly did this to herself.
Sonny: How long have you been planning to turn the tables, Jax? Ever since Carly came to you for help?
Alexis: Sonny, Jax is telling the truth.
Sonny: She came to you for financial backing, and you just saw your chance. She wanted, you know, to make a success out of herself and you reeled her in, got her to trust you, let her do all the hard work at the club, complimented her, told her how good a job she's doing, and then when she finally was proud of herself, you shut her out.
Jax: You suspect that she really did it, don't you? Otherwise, you wouldn't be so wound up.
Sonny: You pretended to be her friend as well as her partner. You were just waiting for your chance to stick it to me. Am I right? No?
Jax: Paranoid, as usual.
Sonny: Oh, paranoid? Yeah. You're going to tell me your involvement in the club has nothing to do with me, Jax?
Jax: Oh, no, it has something to do with you. See, Carly wanted a chance to get out from under you, so I thought, you know, she deserved that.
Sonny: Like she deserved an accusation of embezzlement?
Jax: Yeah, it would make it a hell of a lot easier to pin this on me, wouldn't it? But you canít. You see, this is what happens to women when they get involved with you. They do things they never would've dreamed of doing before, because you drag them down, you destroy their self-confidence. It's the same old story -- they give, you take.
Sonny: Is that why you're part of this?
Jax: No, Alexis is my attorney as she has been on previous occasions. This has nothing to do with you.
Sonny: Yes, it does! Something's changed.
Jason: Nothing? You checked those last two properties again?
Carly: What do you want? Didn't you cause enough damage the last time you were here?
Taggert: Listen, my apologies for busting in on yours and Sonny's second wedding. Was it your third one?
Carly: Okay, get out.
Taggert: Well, you know, I would, but Mr. Morgan, he invited me.
Carly: You called Taggert?
Jason: I told you I went to the police.
Carly: Yeah, but Taggert in Sonny's home? Don't you think that is pushing it?
Taggert: Okay, you know what? Listen, the clock is ticking for Elizabeth Webber, all right? We came up empty with what you've given us so far. I need to know who grabbed her. I need to know what you were doing for Sonny to put her in this situation in the first place.
Carly: Okay, you know what? Jason isn't going to make a deal with you.
Taggert: It's not a deal, all right? I'm just trying to push things along.
Carly: Okay, that's a crock. You're jumping at a chance to throw Sonny behind bars. It's what it's always been about for you, ever since you and Sonny were back in Brooklyn. Well, guess what -- you are out of luck because Jason isn't going to tell you what you want to hear.
Taggert: That depends on how much finding Elizabeth Webber means to him.
Zander: Want me to stop?
Zander: Wait. I'll --
Zander: I'll get that.
Elizabeth: Zander, look.
Jason: Did you turn up anything from that list of E.L.Q. properties?
Carly: Jason, he is trying to get you to incriminate yourself.
Taggert: You know, why don't you go get us some coffee? Let the man talk.
Carly: Why don't you get out!
Jason: Taggert? Carly!
Carly: Jason, you cannot trust Taggert as far as you throw him. How many times has he come to you with some bogus excuse to try and arrest you and Sonny?
Taggert: Does she come with an on-off switch?
Carly: You know what?
Jason: Don't push it, okay?
Carly: Jason, don't say anything, please.
Jason: Well, maybe "E.L.Q." had nothing to do with the company. It is Edward Quartermaine's initials. What if it's somebody else's, too?
Taggert: It's a possibility.
Jason: Okay, so run a list with everyone with the initials "E.L.Q." in Port Charles. If you come up with nothing, run all last names that begin with Q.
Taggert: That's a good idea.
Jason: All right. Then call me when you got the list.
Taggert: I need you to help me first.
Sonny: You cannot be buying this garbage Jax is selling.
Alexis: Jax has proof that Carly took money out of the club account.
Sonny: This is about manipulation. He's using Carly to get to me. How can you be part of that?
Alexis: There is no personal motive here on Jax's part or mine.
Jax: Look, I have security measures in place that pick up irregular transactions. This was easily traced back to Carly. You're welcome to check the books yourself if you like. And my guess is that she wanted to keep the transaction secret. The reason for that is none of my business, I don't want to know. My goal is to make sure it doesn't happen again.
Alexis: Jax asked me to end this quickly and quietly.
Jax: You know, you should be thanking me for not sending her to jail.
Sonny: I don't want to hear about this again.
Jax: Yeah, neither do I, so the subject's closed.
Sonny: Carly decided to back out. I'd tell her to fight, but, you know, being partners with you is a no-win situation.
Jax: Yeah, it is when you're dishonest.
Sonny: You know what? Carly may have bought your good-guy act, but we both know better. You're going to use her just like you're using Alexis right now. But she's a lot smarter than that, Jax, so -- right? Right?
Jason: All I need is a list of names.
Taggert: I'm not putting my men on the case till I know I'm not wasting my time.
Jason: You're wasting time right now.
Taggert: You may know more than you think you know, Morgan, all right? You may have picked something up when you were dealing with Kent and Hayes -- a detail that could help us narrow the search?
Taggert: Humor me. Give me a three-minute rundown on exactly what happened -- what Kent said, how he got shot, what Hayes said before he died.
Jason: I already told you -- "E.L.Q." That's it.
Carly: Okay, you know, this is entrapment and it's disgusting. You are grabbing at straws to try and incriminate Sonny any way that you can.
Taggert: What about what Hayes said on the telephone when he made the ransom demand?
Carly: You don't care about Elizabeth Webber. "Oh, who cares if a girl may be dying? We have a chance to put Sonny Corinthos behind bars."
Taggert: Morgan, I'm your best hope.
Carly: You think Jason's going to make a deal with you because he's friends with Elizabeth.
Taggert: I can help you. You need to help me. What do you say?
Jason: Go to hell.
Elizabeth: Zander, look at the crack.
Zander: Maybe it's -- maybe it's an exterior wall.
Elizabeth: If we can get through this, we'll be out of here. Here, hold this.
Zander: All right.
Zander: Here, here. Let me try, let me try.
Elizabeth: Ouch! Ouch, ouch.
Zander: Are you all right?
Elizabeth: Yeah, it's just a scratch.
Zander: Here, Elizabeth, let me try.
Elizabeth: Okay. Try. No, come on. It's working, Zander, it's working! Oh, my God!
Zander: All right. Here.
Elizabeth: Yeah, dig. Dig, dig, dig, dig, dig.
Zander: Oh, God.
Elizabeth: Oh. Oh, when we get out of here, the first thing I'm going to do is go to Kellyís. God, I can already taste that rosemary chicken sandwich on a bed of baby lettuce. Oh, it sounds so good.
Zander: That's rabbit's food. I'm talking about a real meal. Give me a double-bacon cheeseburger with onion rings. I'm talking about -- I'm going to stick my head under a faucet for about an hour.
Elizabeth: Come on, dig faster. Oh, my God -- water.
Zander: Oh, my God.
Elizabeth: It's water!
Zander: Thank you, God.
Elizabeth: Here, Zander, let -- move. Oh. Oh, God. Oh. No, the pipe is empty.
Zander: It's gas. Oh, my God. We broke open a gas pipe.
[Carnival music plays]
Nikolas: How you doing?
Gia: "Kisses $1 each." Where's the kissee?
Nikolas: I guess she didn't show up.
Gia: Hmm. "All proceeds go to the 9-11 Fund." We can't let that opportunity pass us by. I'm a good kisser, right?
Nikolas: The best. But, no, you're off-limits to the general public.
Gia: No, don't be a spoilsport.
Nikolas: No. Hey, hey, hey.
Gia: Kisses. Kisses $1 apiece. Come one, come all. Proceeds go to the 9-11 Fund. A bargain -- $1 apiece. Come on!
Nikolas: I'll take-- I'll take five. Arrivederci. Thank you.
Gia: Five? Well, Sir, the 9-11 Fund thanks you for your generosity.
Nikolas: Does it?
Nikolas: Hmm. Where's my kiss?
Gia: Ahem. Wow.
Man: Here we go.
Second man: Right here, right here.
Nikolas: I'm just getting warmed up.
Second man: What?
Skye: I have absolutely no intention of accepting Jax's offer to run his stupid nightclub.
Edward: What are your alternatives?
Skye: Just saying no.
Edward: And telling him to go to hell, huh?
Skye: Yeah, that would be satisfying, yes.
Edward: Sure, for the first 30 seconds or so. Is that what you really want, Skye, after what Jax has done to you? Flying off to Paris to be with another woman and give her jewelry while he expects you to work hard at night in his club? Why the club of all offers he could make to you?
Skye: He has this peculiar notion that I'd actually enjoy it.
Edward: Or maybe he realizes that you would be busy at the club every night, bowing and scraping to the drunken clientele. And that would give him time to squire other women around the town. Shouldn't you want to exact a revenge of a more painful, longer-lasting nature, hmm?
Alexis: I'm surprised you're throwing Carly out of the club so fast.
Jax: Why? You think I should give her a second chance?
Alexis: Considering that you are -- rather were -- friends.
Jax: Carly has plenty of other people in her life that give her second chances, and a third and a fourth. I have no intention of falling into a bottomless pit.
Alexis: I hate to break it to you, but you already did.
Jax: No, I didn't. No, I gave her a chance to prove herself. Now it's over. Carly can't be trusted.
Alexis: And this is news?
Jax: You know, I thought she would change, that getting away from Sonny would somehow be a step in the right direction.
Alexis: Was Sonny right? Did you finance this club to get back at him?
Jax: Why do you ask?
Alexis: I'm not judging you, I'm just -- just asking.
Jax: Yeah. Helping out Carly gave me great satisfaction because I knew it would stick it to Sonny. But the success of this club is owed to her.
Alexis: So you're not going to reconsider tossing her out?
Jax: Carly doesn't seem to be able to get away from Sonny. I mean, they -- they twist the truth, they lie, they make excuses for the havoc they wreak.
Jax: I mean, look at -- look what Carly has done. She took $100,000 from the club for I don't know what reason, I don't really care, and she didn't breathe a word of it to Sonny.
Alexis: And he will find some way to forgive her.
Jax: Well, you know, that's his business. I don't really care about that.
Alexis: You know, for what it's worth, I think you did the right thing -- except for the part of giving the job of club manager to Skye.
Jax: Well, actually, I'm thinking about giving her the whole club.
Alexis: Are you serious?
Jax: About Skye? Yes, I am.
Jason: I'll find Elizabeth without you.
Carly: Too bad, Taggert. Your coercion -- it fell flat on its face.
Taggert: You see, Morgan, I didn't say me helping you depended on you rolling over on Corinthos.
Carly: Oh, of course not. You're just trying to help like always.
Taggert: I'll get my men on that list.
Sonny: What are you doing here?
Taggert: Well, you'll have to ask Morgan that. You know, if you ever get tired of him, you'll have a career in law enforcement.
Sonny: This better be worth it.
Jason: If it saves Elizabeth, it is. I have to go meet Benny.
Carly: Well -- oh. I hope your day is better than mine.
Sonny: Why did you embezzle money from Jax?
Carly: Who told you I embezzled money from Jax?
Sonny: It doesn't matter how I found out.
Carly: Oh, it was Alexis, wasn't it?
Sonny: No --
Carly: Yeah, it is. She gets pushed out of the picture and so she tries one last desperate attempt to win you back. She is so pathetic!
Sonny: Alexis didn't tell me about the money.
Carly: No, of course she didn't. She's too smart for that. She just hinted at it. She's dropped enough bait to get you hooked and it worked because you believe her like you always do.
Sonny: This is not about Alexis, it's about us.
Carly: Okay, so why do you jump to the worst possible conclusion?
Sonny: Can you listen to me? I told you that I would love you for the rest of my life no matter what. Now, you took the money from the club for some purpose because for whatever reason, you think you need to hide from me. Because you think that I'll pull away from you if I found out.
Carly: Well, you did before.
Sonny: But I -- and I came back to you because I want to -- I want to spend the rest of my life with you.
Sonny: What? Say it.
Carly: I love you so much, Sonny.
Sonny: Okay, then you got to tell me. We got to start somewhere. If we're straight with each other, nothing's going to break us apart. But why did you do it, Carly? Why did you take the money?
Carly: I did it for you.
Alexis: You serious about Skye?
Jax: Yes, I am.
Alexis: The same Skye Chandler Quartermaine who subscribes to the "hit first, ask questions later" philosophy? The same one that's left a swath of destruction from here to Pine Valley and back? The one that's got a chip on her shoulder the size of Montana?
Jax: And a heart to match.
Alexis: She's drugging you.
Jax: I don't have any illusions about Skye. I know exactly what she is and what she isn't.
Alexis: And apparently her manipulative games don't seem to bother you.
Jax: Well, I must say, that's not her most enduring quality, but, then again, I'm hardly naive. There's only so much she can get away with before I'm onto her.
Alexis: You're sure?
Jax: When I first met her, I saw what you saw -- a spoiled, impulsive --
Alexis: Dangerous woman.
Jax: No. Skye can be difficult, but I know what's underneath.
Alexis: Enlighten me.
Jax: Well, she's finally opening up to me. The truth is her toughness is a defense against getting hurt.
Alexis: Which doesn't necessarily make it any more palatable.
Jax: I don't really know what happened. I just kind of fell into it.
Alexis: Have you told her how you feel?
Jax: Yeah, I have. And sometimes she believes me. Other times her insecurities get ahold of her and she does something to push me away. But I know she doesn't really mean it, so -- you know, it's almost as if she's testing me sometimes. So I just -- I just hold her real tight until she's reassured that I'm not going anywhere.
Alexis: You really do care.
Jax: You see, Skye could never trust anyone who promised they'd be there for her. I want her to know that she can.
Edward: You've been playing your part beautifully, dear. Now is not the time to back out.
Skye: I refuse to force myself night after night to be nice to a bunch of obnoxious, inebriated patrons.
Edward: Well, it's a small-enough price to pay for such a huge prize. Think of it as a challenge.
Skye: It's demeaning.
Edward: Well, I'm sure Jax thinks of it as a compliment.
Skye: Incredibly, he does.
Edward: Well, then just plaster a smile on your face and think about all of Jax's betrayals. He lied to you. He flew off to Paris and he gave a diamond necklace to another woman. Now, look, you deserve a payback that will bring that man down to his knees for all the humiliation that you have suffered at his hands.
Skye: Oh, I do. But, come on, there's got to be a better way.
Edward: Look, the silly club manager's job would give you a proximity to Jax, give you an opportunity to thank him over and over for all his help and support.
Skye: I'm not that good an actress.
Edward: Oh, come on! Your acting skills are among your greatest talents. Just look. Just picture the look on Jax's face when he finds out that his empire has vanished, when he realizes that your kisses were all lies and that you were the one who engineered his downfall. Huh? Hold on to the image, dear, as you convince Jax that you love him with all your heart.
Gia: That's not fair.
Nikolas: What's not fair?
Gia: Well, no one else got a chance to kiss me.
Nikolas: Well, I thought, you know, the idea was to raise money.
Gia: And you paid a hundred times more than I could've raised without you.
Nikolas: So shouldn't that be, "Thank you, Nikolas"?
Gia: Well, there were other people waiting.
Nikolas: Right, like that young Mr. Big Shot over there.
Gia: He looked sweet.
Nikolas: He was drooling, you know?
Gia: And you robbed him of the joy of giving.
Nikolas: Oh, come on. Your kisses are priceless and I'm not about to let anybody see how priceless they are.
Gia: Is that so?
Nikolas: That is so.
Nikolas: Excuse me. Hello. Nikolas Cassadine. Yeah. Okay, what time? You got it, we'll be there. All right.
Gia: What is it?
Nikolas: A guy named Vance Riegel is throwing a party tonight.
Gia: And you told him we'd be there?
Nikolas: Well, let me tell you something. This guy could really benefit your career. All his talent will be there. He's going to have magazine editors, TV people, media.
Gia: TV people?
Nikolas: Yeah. I think it's time that my Sparky should be doing appearances on talk shows, don't you?
Gia: And I think I have just enough time to go home and get glamorous.
Nikolas: See? That's my girl. Let's go. Grab your purse.
A.J.: Why are you following me?
Courtney: I'm not. I just --
A.J.: We were supposed to meet on the dock, not here. What -- you're checking up on me, aren't you?
Courtney: A.J., no. I just came here to find you.
A.J.: Yeah? What for? To gloat like the rest of my family?
A.J.: Huh? They told you I'd fail, but you stuck with me. Huh, you figured I'd give you a good life, then Grandfather cuts me off, and you wonder what the hell you're doing with a guy like me, right?
Courtney: No, of course I didn't. You know me better than that.
A.J.: This is your excuse. This is your chance to get out, okay? I'm a mess, a screw-up. My family's right -- okay, I will never amount to anything. Okay, you happy now?
Courtney: You don't mean that.
A.J.: Would you stop the Pollyanna -- all right? Just -- you don't want to drag yourself down with a guy like me.
Courtney: A.J., I love you.
A.J.: Shut up! I don't want to hear it, okay?
Elizabeth: Oh, my God, I am so stupid!
Zander: Don't say that. Don't say that.
Elizabeth: No, I broke the pipe without even thinking what could be in it.
Zander: Well, I didn't try and stop you, all right?
Elizabeth: Oh, God. Zander, the gas is still leaking.
Zander: Okay, I don't know. Uh -- here. Let me try -- here, put this over your face. Cover your mouth. Okay, let me try and get this thing. It's a loose pipe.
Jason: Did you find anything?
Benny: Okay, I had all our contacts run initials E.L.Q., last names beginning with Q, nicknames, anything I could think of.
Jason: And? And?
Benny: I came up with two guys and neither of them had anything to do with Roscoe, Kent, Sorel, or Hayes. I'm sorry.
Jason: Oh, man. Taggert's list was a dead end, too.
Benny: You got Taggert to run names for you?
Jason: Benny, is that it?
Benny: Well, the Quinns -- they were a mob family here in the 1950s, but they're dead and buried.
Zander: Come on! Oh, God, it's still coming out. God! It's still coming out. All right, maybe we can -- Elizabeth? My God. Elizabeth? Elizabeth? Elizabeth?
Alexis: I'm just going to play devil's advocate here.
Jax: All right.
Alexis: Okay, is there a -- a possibility, a remote possibility that your attraction to Skye may be influenced by your hormones?
Jax: Well, I'm very attracted to Skye. But I've had my share of liaisons with beautiful women and I know that you can't build a relationship on that alone.
Alexis: All righty, then.
Jax: All right. Any more questions, you know, while you're on a roll?
Alexis: I'm just worried about you putting your heart on the line for someone like Skye. I just want you to know what you're doing.
Jax: I think it can work.
Alexis: And I want you to be happy.
Jax: I am.
Alexis: It's my cue to exit. He's all yours.
Jax: I believe you have something to tell me.
Skye: Well, I certainly have been thinking about your offer ever since you asked me about it. You think you know me so well. But do you really?
A.J.: You are following me.
Courtney: Yeah, okay, I'm following you.
A.J.: Then don't. Leave me alone, will you?
Courtney: A.J., come on. I've been worried sick about you. Hey, I saw the flask on the pier. I know you were there. I -- I didn't know what you were going to do, so I waited.
A.J.: I don't need a babysitter.
Courtney: Hey, and I don't want you to hurt yourself.
A.J.: It's not your choice!
Courtney: You're not -- you cannot drive like this.
A.J.: Watch me.
Courtney: Come on, A.J., I'll take you home and you can sleep it off.
A.J.: I don't want to sleep, I'm not tired.
Courtney: Okay, fine. Get out and we'll take a walk.
Courtney: Hey. If you get another D.U.I., they are going to put you in jail, and that's the least that could happen. A.J., you could kill yourself!
A.J.: Yeah, well, at least I'll be anaesthetized.
Courtney: A.J. --
A.J.: Just don't do it. Will you stop trying to save me? No one can. Don't you get it?
Courtney: I'm not leaving.
A.J.: Get out!
A.J.: This is your last chance.
A.J.: Get out. Get -- all right.
Zander: Oh, God.
Zander: Oh, God.
Zander: Come on, come on. Come on. Come on.
Jason: What do you know about the Quinns?
Benny: A father and three sons. They were killed in a shootout with government agents.
Benny: And they're buried somewhere here in town.
Benny: See, I -- a big, ugly crypt.
Jason: What cemetery?
Benny: I -- maybe St. Anneís.
Jason: Benny, come on, think. St. Anne's?
Benny: Yeah, St. Anne's.
Jax: You have an answer for me?
Skye: I accept your offer to manage the club. And can you guess why?
Jax: Because you like a challenge.
Skye: Oh, you do know me well. But there's another reason.
Jax: What's that?
Skye: I like to be in charge. And as my first order as manager of this club, I want you to make love to me right here, right now.
Jax: Well, you're the boss.
Alexis: Admit it, Les, there is no new major retainer. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I bought that for about five seconds. No, that's why I'm calling. I have a feeling I know where the money to pay my salary plus 50 came from. I think it came from a Mrs. Carly Corinthos. She's an old friend of mine. She means well, she really does. In fact, it's -- yeah, it's a type of consideration and kindness that's making me -- well, forcing me to consider staying in Port Charles. Yeah. Well, listen, can you do me a favor and just find out if it was her and then get back to me so that I could return the favor? Thanks, Les.
Sonny: What do you mean, you did it for me?
Carly: I love you, Sonny, and I want to be able to have the life that we dreamed of, everything that we promised each other.
Sonny: We can, all of it.
Carly: Thing is, we canít.
Sonny: Carly? What's the matter?
Carly: Sonny, I know how much you want a child and so I have been going to the doctor and I've been taking tests.
Sonny: And? What? What? Carly, what?
Carly: I took the money for fertility treatments because I may not be able to have a baby.
Courtney: Slow down. Please, A.J., would you just pull over and let me drive?
A.J.: Would you just stop nagging me?
>> On the next "General Hospital" --
Sonny: How long have you known?
Carly: A while.
Man: Hold it right there.
A.J.: Courtney! Oh, no, no. No.
