Elizabeth: You and I will never be close.

Lucky: Just keep on walking, Nikolas. You don't belong here.

Zander: You can't fix this.

Kristina: What happened to Carly is not your fault.

Bobbie: Laura, she's alive. I know it.

Michael: Did you get my card? Mommy said she'd bring it to you.

Sonny: It's a birthday card from Michael.

Alexis: How did it get here?

Kristina: What happened? What happened to your hand, Zander? Zander, what happened to your hand?

Zander: Nothing. Nothing, nothing. I searched all night, nothing.

Kristina: Look, a lot of people are searching for Carly right now. I mean, Sonny has teams. Jax, Nikolas, the police are searching. They're working around the clock. Sooner or later --

Zander: Well, it'll be later. Maybe a month from now, maybe a year. Some current will shift in the St. Lawrence Seaway, and some fisherman will pull up his trout line, and some high tide or shift after a storm --

Kristina: Stop it. Stop it. St it.

Bobbie: Luke, Michael saw his mother. Now, maybe Carly is in shock, but she knew that her son would be at my house, and she found a way to get herself over here and tell him that she is all right. Luke, this is good news. Carly is alive, and she's probably nearby.

Luke: Well, I hope you're right, Barbara. I hope Carly's okay.

Bobbie: Well, you know, if you don't want to be happy with me, then I don't want to hear it.

Luke: Bye.

Laura: Michael saw Carly?

Luke: He says he saw her in the backyard of the brownstone. She showed up to say that she loved him, and then she left. That's why he went to the park in the middle of the night. He thought he could find her.

Laura: Oh, Luke, I think he just dreamed that.

Luke: Could be. I don't know. I've got such a bad feeling about this. I wouldn't put it past Carly to fake her own death just for attention.

Laura: I don't think she'd put her own child through that.

Luke: Darling, you have a much higher opinion of my niece than I do.

Lucky: Aunt Bobbie?

Bobbie: Hmm?

Lucky: I think you should eat something.

Bobbie: Oh, thank you. You know, your father can be incredibly negative. Which isn't a Spencer trait because when we were kids, all we had was hope.

Felicia: Michael's playing trains with Leticia.

Bobbie: Has he said anything else about seeing Carly? Hey, this was not Michael’s imagination or make-believe. Michael saw Carly.

Felicia: No one doubts that.

Bobbie: Well, apparently some people do, like Luke and Jax and apparently the two of you.

Maxie: I totally believe Michael saw Carly. It happened to me just like that.

Bobbie: What happened to you?

Maxie: I saw B.J., after she died.

Alexis: How did the card get here? Michael made that card. He said that Carly brought it here, and it's here.

Sonny: No.

Alexis: She was in your apartment. What if she saw us upstairs? What if she came here to surprise you?

Sonny: Nobody surprises me. Nobody was here.

Alexis: You had the music playing. It was loud. We wouldn't have been able to hear her.

Maxie: It was after I got out of the hospital but I still had to stay in bed. I'd lie in my room and cry for B.J. because I missed her so much. One day I looked up, and B.J. was there. She was smiling and said, "Please don't cry." She said she was okay and happy and she wanted me to be okay, too, and that one day we'd all be together.

Bobbie: Maxie, you saw B.J.’s spirit. And that's wonderful, but --

Maxie: B.J. said she loved me and that she'd always be there, even though I couldn't always see her.

Felicia: Maxie.

Maxie: Maybe that's what happened to Michael. Maybe his mother came back to tell --

Bobbie: No! No. Because Carly is alive. This wasn't a vision.

Felicia: Bobbie, Maxie's not trying to upset you. She's trying --

Bobbie: I know. I know what Maxie's trying to do. And you are wrong.

Lucky: You would know. I need some air. Maxie, you want to come with me?

Bobbie: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hurt Maxie's feelings, but I don't want to be consoled. Carly is alive. And she's coming back. I know it.

Luke: Carly doesn't exactly have a track record of being the most considerate person on earth. I mean, she stole her mother's husband, for one thing. I wouldn't put it past her to leave Barbara suffering if she thought it would get whatever the hell it is she wants.

Laura: I don't know about that, you know? She and Bobbie have gotten pretty close to each other. And I know that she really, really loves Michael. I don't think that she would do that to him.

Luke: So you think he actually saw her?

Laura: No. No, because how could Carly know that Michael was going to wander down the staircase and out into the backyard in the middle of the night? And if she really wanted everybody to believe that she was dead, why would she be hanging around at her mother's house? The brownstone was full of people that night. Any one of us could have spotted her. No, I don't think so. I think that Michael was in unfamiliar surroundings and missing his mommy and he had a dream. And Bobbie wants to believe that, you know? It supports her denial. I think there's even a part of you that would like to believe that. You know? It's a little easier than thinking your only sister is going to lose another child.

Luke: Yeah. Well, if you're right and Carly is actually dead, I don't know how Barbara will handle it. And I don't know what I'll do to help her.

Laura: Well, I think you just, you know, you're there to comfort her. That's everything that we could not do for each other when we thought Lucky died.

Maxie: Why did I have to open my big mouth? My mom told me not to, but I just thought hearing about B.J. would help.

Lucky: Well, Aunt Bobbie gets that. And I think down the line, she will. She's not really ready to hear it right now.

Maxie: Now is not the time. That's what my mom tried to tell me.

Lucky: Yeah, well, don't you hate it when parents are right?

Maxie: I just hate seeing Aunt Bobbie upset. She doesn't want to accept that she's lost another daughter. I remember lying in my hospital bed right after the surgery and waking up to the sound of somebody crying. I opened my eyes and saw it was Aunt Bobbie. I shut them before she knew I was awake, and she just kept crying. I don't think about this all the time, but --

Lucky: What, Maxie?

Maxie: You know, sometimes it's weird and sometimes it's awful, knowing that you're alive because someone else is dead. I mean, the only reason you're alive is because someone else had to die?

Lucky: No, no, no, no, no. Okay, let's stop here for a second, okay? B.J. didn't die so you could live. B.J. died because a guy who was past his limit and didn't know it got behind the wheel of a car. No, it's not your fault that they couldn't save her. You don't own any of that. But what is your part to carry around is the fact that B.J.'s alive because of you and inside you. And that, Maxie -- that brings comfort and joy to everybody who's around you and everybody who loved B.J., especially Bobbie and Tony. Now, if Carly is gone, she left behind Michael, the same way that B.J. left her heart. So a part of Carly is here on earth. And I believe that that's enough to bring Bobbie joy. I think.

Maxie: So you think Carly is dead, too?

Kristina: Come here.

Zander: It's fine. It's fine, all right?

Kristina: No, do you really want an infected wound on top of everything else? Why are you torturing yourself?

Zander: If you can't take the truth, then get out. Carly drowned. She's going to wash up onshore soon.

Kristina: What -- what would Carly say if she saw you right now, huh?

Zander: Kristina, I'm not in the mood for games, okay?

Kristina: No, no, I'm serious. I'm serious. If Carly saw this cut and saw you beating yourself up with every little, imagined detail, what do you think she would say?

Zander: Well, we'll never know, will we?

Kristina: Don't give me that. You should know Carly well enough to know how she would react to something like this. Or what are you going to tell me, that you've already forgotten because Carly has been gone for how long? Zander, then listen to her. Don't listen to me. Hear Carly's voice in your head. And you know exactly what she would be doing right now. She would be cleaning up this wound. She would be telling you to get some sleep, to eat something, to stop punishing yourself. If you never see Carly again in this lifetime, you'll at least be able to hear her voice in your head. And you'll have that voice because you know how Carly thinks. She's alive in your heart. She's alive in your head. And you know that she would be all over you right now if she saw that you were –

Sarah: Hey. Have you been in for a checkup lately?

Elizabeth: You're not my doctor, okay?

Sarah: I'm just concerned that you might be pushing yourself too hard.

Elizabeth: I don't want your concern. Go be concerned about Lucky.

Sarah: There is nothing going on between Lucky and me.

Maxie: I'll go tell Aunt Bobbie you're here.

Nikolas: So how are you? I know that sounds lame, but I just -- I don't really know what to say to you. Or whether I say anything at all. Look, man, I hate fighting with you. I hate the fact that we're not even speaking. I hate the fact that when I see you, I have to brace myself when my impulse really is to just smile. It's hard right now, but I guess it's something I'll get used to, you know?

Lucky: You think this is easy for me?

Bobbie: Nikolas, do you have word? Did one of your searchers find something?

Nikolas: Actually, yes, I do have a few things I need to say to you.

Bobbie: Okay, come on in.

Nikolas: Okay. You coming?

Lucky: Yeah.

Laura: Do you think if we had really been able to talk to each other back then -- I mean, really tell each other how we felt -- when they told us Lucky died that we might have figured out sooner that it wasn't true?

Luke: I don't know. I'm just so glad that's over.

Laura: Yeah, I know. Me, too. Although, I will never, ever forget that night.

Luke: I don't want to remember it.

Laura: I know. The pain took me to the floor. And you literally had to hold me up. But what happened? I mean, why did we let go of each other? Why didn't we stay together through that?

Luke: Darling, I didn't think you wanted to stay together.

Laura: Oh, Luke. How do we keep that from ever happening again?

Luke: Come here.

Laura: Oh, Luke.

Luke: Oh, yeah.

[Knock on door]

Alexis: Kristina's not home.

Ned: I'm here to see you.

Alexis: This is not a good time, Ned.

Ned: Which is why I'm here.

Alexis: Whatever it is, could it wait? Because I'm really on overload right now and I --

Ned: No, it can't wait, okay? It's waited too long already.

Sonny: I need to speak to Zander alone.

Kristina: I'll wait downstairs.

Sonny: Well, this could take a while.

Zander: It's okay. Go ahead.

Kristina: Excuse me.

Sonny: The night Carly disappeared, you saw her, she was upset. Your story has holes. I need you to fill them in for me. Starting from the top.

Nikolas: Carly's purse was found at the bottom of the lake, near where the car was.

Bobbie: And her wallet was inside?

Nikolas: Yeah.

Bobbie: So what about dogs? Would they be able to pick up her scent along the shoreline, or has there been too much foot traffic from the rescue people?

Nikolas: My lead investigator brought in two canine teams. They checked the shoreline and the area where Carly's car went over the railing. The dogs picked up no scent.

Bobbie: Okay. So I guess you'll be calling off the search?

Nikolas: Not at all. No, in fact, I'm widening the search area and also making sure they're focusing in town, as well.

Bobbie: Thank you.

Nikolas: You bet.

Bobbie: So you're not here to tell me that it's hopeless?

Nikolas: No, no. I don't believe in giving up. It's not in me.

Bobbie: Thank you, Nikolas. It means a lot to me. Well, Felicia, Maxie, come on, I want to show you something.

Nikolas: I meant what I said, you know, about not giving up. It's not in me, man. I haven't given up on us. You know, I -- I understand why you're upset, and you ha everyone reason to be. I'm just hoping that there's a way that we can get past this and be brothers again. Can we do that?

Lucky: Not if you keep lying. If I ask you for the truth, you'd tell me right now?

Nikolas: What do you want to know?

Lucky: Did you help Helena escape? Did you, Nikolas? Did you help her escape?

Nikolas: Yes. I did. I let her get away, not when she showed up at the hospital but when she came to Spoon Island. Do my reasons matter at all?

Lucky: I'm listening.

Luke: Sweetheart, I love you more than anything. I always have, and I always will. But you know better than anybody that I'm hardly perfect. I'm kind of a screw-up.

Laura: Oh --

Luke: No, no, let me finish. I'll probably make a lot more mistakes. But I promise you this -- they'll be new mistakes. I'm not going to recycle the old ones. Like pushing you away when I need you the most. That's what I did when we lost Lucky. I'll never do that again.

Laura: I did exactly the same thing.

Luke: Yeah, darling, but see, I threw ancient screw-ups in your face. And that wasn't fair. And I'm not going to do that again. I've gotten rid of all that. I've thrown all that stuff in the junk heap along with my mirrored ball. If I solemnly swear that I'll never do any of that stuff again, do you think we're going to be all right?

Laura: Yeah, I think we are. But that's not enough because there's also my side.

Ned: Since we got back from the Caribbean, we haven't spoken one civil word to each other, and I'd like to fix that. And I'm assuming you would, too. Alexis, are you listening?

Alexis: Yeah.

Ned: Obviously, I didn't take it too well when you broke your promise and told Sonny A.J.'s whereabouts. I was obviously angry. But now I realize that it was really naive of me to think that you would hold out on Sonny.

Ned: Of course you're going to side with Sonny. He's your employer, and your relationship now is obviously closer. And he was really just trying to protect his little sister from walking into a hornets' nest, and I was trying to protect the hornets. Alexis, are you listening to me?

Alexis: Yes.

Ned: I told Courtney that if she needed an ally that she could come to me. Do you need some help?

Alexis: No.

Ned: Is Sonny helping with the search? You know, even if it's bad news, it's very important that they find Carly. I mean, otherwise, people are just grasping at straws and --

Alexis: Damn it.

Zander: Carly left here about 3:00 in the morning. Sonny, I've told you a dozen times.

Sonny: Your story doesn't hang together. Like this date you had with Carly at 3:00 a.m. to play pool. What's with that?

Zander: She gave me a pool cue. She wanted to see me test it out.

Sonny: In the middle of the night?

Zander: When the club closed.

Sonny: In the middle of the night?

Zander: When she got off of work.

Sonny: In the middle of the night?

Zander: Yeah, in the middle of the night. That's when she gets off of work, Sonny.

Sonny: Don't get defensive with me. How long has Carly been making dates to play pool at 3:00 a.m.?

Zander: What difference does it make? Are you going to try and act like you care?

Sonny: How long?

Zander: Why couldn't Carly do whatever the hell she wanted? You're with Alexis.

Sonny: Carly told you I was with Alexis?

Zander: No, she didn't have to.

Sonny: Is that what she told you?

Zander: No. It doesn't take a detective, Sonny, all right? You and Alexis are always together. You were together the morning I came to tell you about the accident.

Sonny: All right, the night before, what did Carly say? Did she come here at 3:00 a.m. and tell you that Alexis was with me?

Zander: No.

Sonny: No? Then why was she upset? She broke a nail? The Chinese takeout was closed? You told me you saw her. She was upset. I want you to tell me why. Answer me now! Tell me why!

Zander: Because I threw her out of my bed!

Luke: Barbara Jean may have lost another daughter. That's flashing us back to the worst time of our lives. We may have a rough road ahead, darling, but I'm not going to be the fool I was.

Laura: Luke --

Luke: I'm going to be a smarter fool, a better fool, a fool with more perspective, anything you want. What do you need?

Laura: Nothing. That's perfect. What I wanted to say is that I promise you that I will be completely honest with you from this day forward, no matter what. Okay? And maybe this is our chance to realize that we're never, ever, ever going to take the easy way out again or the quick fix or the blame road. We're just not going to do that. And if, God forbid, the unspeakable should happen to us, we're going to stay together. Is that a deal?

Luke: That's a deal. Oh, I'd so love to seal this with a kiss, but I've got the head cold from hell.

Laura: Well, we could always seal it with something else.

Luke: Oh, you're so full of good ideas.

Laura: Oh! I love you.

Nikolas: Your father said that he would handle it, you know, that all the complications would be gone. All I had to do was hand him Helena. And believe me, a part of me wanted to.

Lucky: Part of you?

Nikolas: I know what would have happened if I handed her over, Lucky. She would have never been seen again.

Lucky: I don't see a problem with that.

Nikolas: He would have killed her, you know? For reasons I do accept. But a part of me -- I couldn't let that happen.

Lucky: Well, you know as well as I do Helena’s a monster.

Nikolas: Yes, I do know that, and I agree 100%. But if I would have played a part in my grandmother's death, no matter how much I despise her, I wouldn't have been able to live with myself. I do have a conscience. You understand that?

Lucky: Yes. But I've got one question for you. How come you didn't call the police? How come you didn't hand Helena over to them? It was an inconvenience, right? You afraid Helena would turn you in? She tried to exterminate my family, Nikolas! But you don't want to deal with all those legal hassles, right, for you and Gia? So you just set Helena free. I mean, what's my family compared to a driving while intoxicated charge for your fiancée or an obstruction of justice and just a pinch of it for yourself? Which, by the way, any one of your hoity-toity lawyers could have got you off of.

Sarah: Liz --

Elizabeth: When are you going to leave me alone?

Sarah: I'm your sister, whether you like it or not.

Elizabeth: I've never liked it, ever. I was thrilled when you left town. I didn't miss you while you were in Europe. And when you came back, that was a bad day for me.

Sarah: There's got to be a way to work this out.

Elizabeth: You want to try to work something out? Try this -- when you see me, pretend like you don't, and I'll do the same.

Sarah: No, Lizzie, I can't live like that.

Elizabeth: Oh, right. We've got to make sure we do everything the easy way for Sarah.

Sarah: No, Liz, I happen to care about you.

Elizabeth: Well, stop it, okay? I don't want you to care.

Sarah: Tough!

Ned: Don’t. You'll hurt yourself.

Alexis: I don't hurt myself. I hurt other people, like you, like Carly. She's probably dead because of me. She either lost control of the car or got so distraught, she purposely drove it into a lake because she knew about Sonny and me.

Ned: Okay, look, Sonny and Carly were divorced. And not because of you but because Carly was a loose cannon who always acted first and thought later. She was that way when she came to town.

Alexis: I knew that. I knew that. But I didn't stop to think about her. I didn't stop to think about how much I would hurt her. I didn't stop to think about anything.

Zander: You hired me to watch Carly. You put us together day and night. What did you think? She was beautiful. Did you figure me for blind? The way she moved, the way she smiled, the way she laughed. Did you think all that was lost on me? I tried to quit, Sonny. Did you ever wonder why? Carly was lonely. Go figure. She needed to be wanted every once in a while, and she was. You know that story Carly told you about the stranger in the bar kissing her? Well, there was no stranger and there was no bar, but there was a kiss, and it was me. Carly invented the story to keep you from killing me. You want to kill me? Come on! Kill me! Right now. Beat me to a pulp. Put me at the bottom of the lake with Carly. I don't give a damn! I never did. I only kept it a secret for her because I didn't want to ruin her chances of ever getting back together with you, friend. Those are the facts. You wanted them. You satisfied now?

Sonny: That night, what happened?

Zander: What I wanted to happen. Except for this time, it was real.

Sonny: Why did you throw Carly out? What did she do wrong? Or did you throw her out after you got what you wanted?

Zander: No.

Sonny: Then why? Why didn't you let her stay?

Zander: Because even then, it wasn't about me. It was all about you.

Bobbie: Sonny, hi, it's Bobbie. Listen, I'm just calling because I'm wondering if you'd heard anything. But I guess you probably would have called me if you had. So I just want to let you know I'm at the brownstone and I'm going to stay here just in case Carly decides to come back. Lucky's gone?

Nikolas: Yeah.

Bobbie: I'm sorry. I was kind of hoping the two of you would --

Nikolas: Me, too. Me, too. You know, I tried. I felt him trying. And I could say for a moment, I -- but it didn't happen. I blew it. He'll never get past it, you know.

Bobbie: Oh, I don't know. Never is a long time.

Nikolas: Some things you can't come back from.

Bobbie: Oh, Nikolas, with time and effort, you can come back from anything. I gave up my daughter a long time ago. And she grew up feeling alone and abandoned, and she blamed me for every single thing that went wrong in her life. She came to town one day. She had decided she was going to rip my life to shreds. But I forgave her for that, and she forgave me. And I'm really glad we did because we know each other now and we love each other. And we'd still be strangers if we hadn't found a way to forgive. But you -- your mother left you alone to be raised without a mother. Have you forgiven her? You see? People can forgive terrible things. You and I seem to hold onto hope a lot better than the rest of these other people. So how about we make a deal?

Nikolas: Okay.

Bobbie: If you won't stop hoping for my daughter, I won't stop hoping for Lucky and you.

Nikolas: Deal. Thank you.

Sarah: You don't get to tell me how to feel, Liz, okay? I'm your sister, like it or not. And you can push me away all you want, that's fine. That's your call. But you cannot stop me from trying. That's my call. And believe me, I know how angry you are. I know what it's like to lose someone you love.

Elizabeth: You don't have a clue about losing, Sarah. You've never lost anything in your life.

Sarah: You have no idea.

Elizabeth: Oh, give me a break! I was there, remember, when Mom and Dad hung a halo over your head? The perfect grades, the perfect friends, the perfect, goal-oriented, overachieving life. So don't tell me you know what it's like to lose. You want to worry about me, Dr. Webber? Fine, go ahead. But while you're at it, stay out of my face. You know what? You have lost something. You won. It's me.

Lucky: You know, you're so wrong. Sarah has lost something. She didn't want you to know, but your sister was married.

Elizabeth: What?

Lucky: Yeah. Yeah, she had a husband, and he passed away.

Ned: You didn't break up Sonny's marriage. They've been apart for almost a year. Couples break up. People get hurt. That's part of life. And Carly had to deal with that. She was an adult. She was a mother. And if she was driving recklessly because she was upset about anything, that's her responsibility. I mean, it's terrible. It's terrible what happened to her. But none of this is your fault, Alexis.

Kristina: What happened? Did they find Carly?

Ned: No, no, not yet. But your sister has convinced herself that this whole thing is her fault.

Kristina: You got to be kidding me.

Alexis: I don't -- I don't want to discuss this anymore. I don't want to listen. I don't want to be here right now.

Kristina: Is she okay?

Ned: No.

Sonny: Okay, Carly came -- she came at you, but it was all about me. Which means she -- well, it was payback. She wanted to even the score, right? She knew about -- she knew about Alexis and me, which means she was in the penthouse. She heard something. Found something? What? Tell me what Carly saw that night.

Zander: She saw you and Alexis in bed.

>> On the next "General Hospital" --

Courtney: Do you really need to have another victory over Sonny so badly?

A.J.: He has my son.

Courtney: Who doesn't even know you.

Bobbie: My daughter isn't dead. I don't want you trying to convince me that she is.

Zander: You happy now, Sonny? Did you get all of the information that you needed?
