Lucky: Elizabeth, I’m right here. I'm not going anywhere.
Gia: You ran the red light. This is all your fault.
Nikolas: That accident -- it was your fault, wasn't it?
Nikolas: I will make sure that you don't have to face any charges.
Roy: Terminal patients dying before their doctors think they should. The caregiver in question is Melissa.
Nikolas: What? What? What?
Gia: I killed Elizabeth.
Nikolas: No. No, no, no, no. It was a dream, okay? It was a dream. She's fine. She's down the hall. Okay? She's fine.
Gia: No, nothing is fine. You have to get me away from here.
Sonny: Hey. I want you to find my sister. According to this note, she's leaving town. Check the buses, the trains. I don't think she has enough money to fly, but send somebody to the airport anyway. Call Zander. Have him check the clubs, the rave, and wherever else he may think she is. Okay. Tell Zander that, if he finds her, not to tell that I'm looking for her. That, you know, he just happened to be at the right place at the right time, you know, and --
Max: Yeah, I understand.
Sonny: Okay. Now, if somebody else finds her, I do not want her to see you. I do not want her to know she's being followed. I want to know where she is, where she's going. The most important thing is to keep her safe.
Max: I'll handle it.
Sonny: You satisfied?
Alexis: Max is an excellent bodyguard. He's just not very subtle, and there's a very good chance that Courtney will know that she's being watched.
Mike: Yeah, but it's better than her being off on her own.
Sonny: Forget it, Mike.
Mike: I won't let you shut me out of my daughter's life.
Sonny: She doesn't want us, Mike. How many times do I got to tell you?
Mike: You mean, she doesn't want you.
Alexis: Since the tension between you seems to upset Courtney -- and who could blame her? -- It would probably be a good idea for you two to come up with some kind of --
Janine: Somebody here better produce my daughter right now, or I might just forget I'm a lady.
Courtney: Sonny will have his men searching for me.
A.J.: Courtney, trust me.
Courtney: I have already caused you too much trouble.
A.J.: No trouble at all. Come on, like I said -- I meant it when I said that I want you to stay here with me.
Courtney: You're just trying to make me feel better.
A.J.: Is it working?
Courtney: A little.
A.J.: Good. I feel better, too. I've made some lousy choices in my life, okay? So it's time to take the high road. Helping you out for a few days -- well, let's just say it's my first mission as an official good guy.
Courtney: Are you sure no one will know I'm staying here?
A.J.: Not if you don't want them to.
Courtney: I definitely don't.
A.J.: Well, then, it's our secret.
Skye: What's she doing here?
A.J.: Courtney's going to be staying here for a while.
Skye: Are you out of your mind?
Roy: Is it possible that Melissa mercy-killed two patients in less than six weeks?
Bobbie: I don't know.
Roy: That's impossible to believe. Or maybe I just don't want to believe it.
Bobbie: Look, you know, Roy, don't rush to judgment. I mean, if it is true -- and I'm not saying it is -- but it would be the end of Melissa’s nursing career at the very least.
Roy: I'm aware of that.
Bobbie: On the other hand, you can't ignore it.
Roy: I know. If I did and somebody else died, I'd never be able to forgive myself.
Bobbie: So, what are you going to do?
Roy: I guess I'm going to have to confront her.
Bobbie: And if it isn't true?
Roy: Well, then she'll know that I thought she was capable of ending these people's lives. I doubt she'll be able to forgive me.
Bobbie: Are you prepared for that?
Roy: I don't know.
Roy: Thank you for listening to this.
Bobbie: Hey, you know what? It's late. You're exhausted. Why don't you sleep on it?
Edward: What's that?
Melissa: Something for your pain.
Edward: The pain I have can't be fixed with medication. You know, I've lost everything. I've lost my power, my -- my dignity, and even my family. I guess my body is healing, but I don't want to be healed. I just don't care anymore.
Melissa: Why don't you just try to relax and rest? Just put yourself in my hands, okay?
Edward: Thank you, dear. You have my -- my blessings and my gratitude.
A.J.: You know, Skye, a funny thing happens when you connect your knuckles to a hard surface. It's called knocking.
Courtney: Maybe I should go.
A.J.: No, no. No, it's okay, really. Skye's on our side, right?
Courtney: Maybe it would just be better if I stayed someplace else.
A.J.: No, absolutely not. Come on, this is the safest place. That is, if everyone keeps their mouth shut.
Skye: My lips are sealed.
Courtney: I am complicating your life.
A.J.: No. It's a complication I want. Courtney, if you'd just stop thinking about what everybody else wants and think of yourself, you might find it's what you want, too.
Skye: Ahem. Mind if I get a glass of water?
A.J.: All right, look, the note that I had dropped off for Sonny -- it says that you're gone for a short time, that's all.
Courtney: Well, now that I am here, it -- it would be kind of nice to stay.
A.J.: Great. Then you know what? Just make yourself comfortable. And if you should get hungry, all you have to do is, you know --
Courtney: Call room service?
A.J.: You're catching on. Good night.
A.J.: Oh, yes.
Skye: You know, I really can't stay. I have to go order you a headstone.
A.J.: Anybody ever told you you have a flair for drama?
Skye: What if Sonny finds out?
A.J.: He won't. Not unless I want him to, of course. Do me a favor, would you? Would you look after Courtney, make sure she doesn't get scared?
Skye: What about me? Won't Sonny be out looking for Courtney with a small army of thugs?
A.J.: Don't worry about it. You got Jojo and Phil around.
Skye: Where are you going?
A.J.: To get caught.
Lucky: Hi, beautiful. You have a nice nap?
Elizabeth: Lucky --
Sarah: Welcome back.
Elizabeth: You really are here. I thought I was dreaming. Ow.
Sarah: How are you feeling?
Elizabeth: Sore. Really sore.
Sarah: You got pretty banged up.
Elizabeth: Oh --
Lucky: No need to think about all that stuff right now, okay? You're going to be just fine.
Gia: When Elizabeth wakes up, she's going to tell everyone what really happened. Everyone will know that I was the one who ran the red light, not Sonny's sister.
Nikolas: Nobody is going to hurt you. I will do whatever it takes to make this problem go away, Gia. What? What? What's wrong?
Melissa: Dr. Quartermaine.
Alan: I'm sorry. I didn't mean to startle you.
Melissa: Oh, that's all right.
Alan: Could I have a minute alone with my father?
Melissa: Sure, I can finish up later.
Edward: No, no, no. I want her in here. She's one of the only people who care about me. Alan, I want to ask you something. Why did you bother to save my life when you'd clearly be happier without me? Go on, leave. I want to sleep.
Alan: Father --
Edward: No, no, no. Whatever you want, no. Melissa, I give and I give and I get nothing in return.
Alan: I have never seen my father like this.
Melissa: I can stay with him until he falls asleep, if you'd like.
Alan: Thank you. I'd appreciate it.
Melissa: This is not right, but it will be right, Edward.
Nikolas: I am coming on strong because I don't like to see you frightened.
Gia: Look, if Sonny finds out, or Marcus -- anyone -- I --
Nikolas: Listen, you didn't mean to hurt Elizabeth. You know? I mean, these things happen. And other things happen to make the problem go away.
Gia: You are so wonderful.
Nikolas: Thank you.
Taggert: Well, somebody's feeling better.
Nikolas: Hey, Taggert.
Nikolas: How you doing?
Gia: Why aren't you down at the station filling out reams of paperwork?
Taggert: Done. Here to check on my little sister.
Nikolas: You know, I'll let you guys have some time, and I'm going to go check and see how Elizabeth’s doing.
Nikolas: Love you.
Gia: So, you're not here on business?
Taggert: No, strictly personal. So, how are you?
Gia: Not bad.
Taggert: Yeah? Well, obviously a lot better than that time when you broke your arm, huh?
Gia: Don't start on that again.
Taggert: Yeah, yeah. You were, what, 5 years old. You were lying to your big brother, climbing out a window.
Gia: I just wanted to prove that I could do it on my own.
Taggert: Yeah. God, that seems like it was just yesterday, doesn't it? And look at you now. You have grown into this woman who is gutsy, independent, knows her own mind. I am so proud of you, Gia. I'm so proud of you. Despite your driving skills. Just kidding.
Gia: What's going to happen to that girl who hit my car? Is she going to go to prison?
Taggert: Probably not. But she does have to appear in court.
Gia: Just for running a red light?
Taggert: And seriously injuring another person, yeah.
Gia: Well, she probably just got distracted and her mind wandered away from her for a minute and, you know, the light in front of her turned red and it was too late for her to stop. I mean, it's not like she's an evil person or even a bad driver. I just think it would be horrible to punish her for something -- for a mistake that's so easy to make.
Courtney: Where's A.J.?
Skye: He had an errand.
Courtney: So he asked you to baby-sit?
Skye: He wants to make sure you're okay.
Courtney: I am.
Skye: It's A.J. I'm worried about. He seems to think no one will find out. But if they do, he could get hurt.
Courtney: You mean, by Sonny.
Courtney: What do you think of Sonny?
Skye: I am definitely the wrong person to ask.
Courtney: I really want to know.
Skye: You know, I think you've had enough bad news for one day.
Courtney: I can take it.
Skye: Why do you want to know this?
Courtney: Because I have all these decisions to make about what I want to do and where I want to go, and they all depend on who my brother really is.
Janine: Courtney is gone? She gets in a car accident, you turn around, and you lose her?
Mike: Look, she left the police station without telling us. She was upset.
Janine: Oh, I got about three guesses who did the upsetting. This is great. This is -- thank you so damn much!
[Knock on door]
Sonny: Did you find Courtney?
Johnny: No, but we found someone else in Mike's suite.
Melissa: What is going on?
Roy: I just want to talk you, and I'd like a little privacy.
Melissa: What? Has something happened?
Roy: Oh, baby, I'm -- I don't -- I think maybe something almost happened. What were you about to give Edward?
Melissa: Morphine. For the pain. It's right on his chart. I don't understand.
Roy: Uh-huh. Okay. Was morphine also on Mrs. Holt's chart?
Melissa: Excuse me?
Roy: Or Mr. Barnes in Chicago, or Mrs. Granger?
Melissa: I don't understand why you're asking me this.
Roy: Melissa, I did some research on some of your former patients.
Roy: Because I had questions. In my mind, I had questions about your choices in the way you treated them.
Melissa: Well, if you had questions, you could have just asked me.
Roy: I was hoping I wouldn't have to.
Melissa: Are you accusing me of something?
Roy: I wish we didn't have to talk about it in terms like that. I wish that I had never even had any of these thoughts or come across any information that seems to implicate you, but --
Melissa: Do you feel like I've done something wrong?
Roy: I know you don't see it that way.
Melissa: Roy, I would never hurt Edward.
Roy: No, I know you wouldn’t. But you might decide to end his life.
A.J.: Easy on the threads, Kong.
Sonny: Where'd you find him?
Max: He was outside nosing around Mike's hotel suite.
A.J.: Yeah, for your information, I live in that hotel, okay?
Mike: Not on that floor, you don’t.
A.J.: You know, paranoia's running a little rampant around here, even for you. What the hell is going on?
Janine: These bozos lost her.
A.J.: Way to go, guys. Kind of ironic, don't you think, Sonny? Huh? Everyone here, all of you -- you all thought that I'd be the one hurting Courtney.
Sonny: This funny to you or something?
A.J.: Actually, no. I heard about it on the radio.
Alexis: And you went out looking for Courtney?
A.J.: You know what? She's a sweet girl, Alexis. Okay? She deserves a hell of a lot better than she's been getting from this town so far.
Sonny: And you wanted to help her out of the goodness of your heart?
A.J.: I thought she could use someone to talk to.
Mike: Well, you're too late.
Janine: Courtney ran away, A.J.
A.J.: And she didn't tell any of you where she was going? Isn't it just great when family members get along, huh? When they trust each other? Well, she's a smart girl. I'm sure she's safe. Actually, I'm glad she's gone.
Sonny: Yeah, well, I'm glad she's away from you.
A.J.: Back at you. Can I go now?
Sonny: Can you take this Mr. Quartermaine back to his hotel?
A.J.: Take it easy.
Mike: All right. Now what?
Sonny: We keep looking, Mike. Does she have a friend, a boyfriend? What?
Janine: What, you think I'm going to tell you? You two have been bouncing her around like she's -- I don't know. God, you've been trying to win her like a -- like a prize that you can lord over each other, and I'm sick of it. And apparently, Courtney is, too. So you know what? Why don't you stay out of it? I'll go find my daughter by myself.
Skye: You know how Sonny is.
Courtney: Well, he says he's watching out for me. And what about A.J. and everything that he's been doing? What does he expect in return?
Skye: You mean, is A.J. going to put the moves on you?
Courtney: Well, I mean, he has gone out of his way to help me out. Maybe there are strings attached.
Skye: A.J.'s not like that.
Courtney: Are you sure? Because if that's the case, I'll just find someplace else to stay.
Skye: A.J. is merely looking for a friend, Courtney. And here you are, you show up. You have no expectations, making no judgments, just taking him for who he is, and I -- I really think that's a safe haven for him, if that rings any bells.
Courtney: Yeah, it does.
Skye: Yeah. Well, A.J.'s obviously very fond of you, Courtney. I really don't think you have anything to worry about where he's concerned.
Courtney: Well, I'm pretty wiped out. I think I'm going to go to bed. Tell A.J. I said good night.
Courtney: And would you thank him for me? Why are families so screwed up?
Skye: I haven't a clue. But I'll tell you something -- if you're lucky enough to find someone who's willing to listen to you and support you and, hell, even rescue you, you hang on to them for dear life.
Melissa: I don't know how you think I could hurt Edward.
Roy: Baby, I know that you are a loving person, a wonderful nurse who cares deeply for her patients.
Melissa: Okay, stop, stop. Don't say another word, all right? Don't say another thing about this.
Roy: It's not going to go away. Other people know about it.
Melissa: Other people know what?
Roy: That something is wrong here. Bobbie told me Mrs. Granger died just six weeks ago.
Melissa: Bobbie? Honey, Bobbie never liked me. You know, she always blamed me. She blamed me for stealing you away. This is probably just her way to get back at me.
Roy: She didn't want to believe you had anything to do with this. It's been me who can't let it go. I've been chasing my instincts. The evidence is there. It rings true. I wish it didn't. You know -- you know how much I love you.
Melissa: I don't have anything more to say about this.
Roy: Listen. Look me in the eye. Swear on your love for me, for Leo, that you haven't been doing this.
Melissa: I love you.
Roy: Then tell me the truth.
Melissa: Do we really have to do this?
Roy: Yes, we do.
Melissa: Yes. Yeah, I did it. And I am not ashamed.
Roy: Can you tell me why?
Melissa: You know why -- because I care about my patients and I feel like I have to help them.
Roy: Okay, I -- I realize that hospitals do let people go sometimes, even help them die.
Melissa: Sometimes people who are on tubes and respirators, the shells of human beings, yes. But not conscious people.
Roy: People who are suffering?
Melissa: Yes. The first time, the patient asked me. She was an elderly woman, and, oh, God, she had nothing, no one. She was terminal, no family, no friends. This -- this poor woman was in complete agony and she was so desperate to be free of this pain. And she would beg me every day and I could not stand to see her suffering anymore. Roy, it just seemed so incredibly cruel. So I gave her peace, and you should have seen her afterwards. My God, she was -- she looked so beautiful. She was so free of this wretched body of hers and she was at rest. And Geoffrey Barnes begged me, too. I know it seemed in some ways like he had everything to live for. He had family and he had money, but his children treated him like complete dirt. I even heard his son say he wished he would just -- just hurry up and die. I didn't know about the will. I really didn’t. If I had, I would have gotten him to change it. The only reward that I've ever wanted is to free these poor people from their pain and their suffering. I know you can understand this.
Roy: Sweetie, you were in agony over the attempt you made on Sorel's life. We stood in this chapel. You told me you wouldn't be able to forgive yourself for doing that.
Melissa: I hated Sorel! Sorel was a monster. If I had done something, it would have been -- it would have been about revenge. It would not have been about love and compassion. If I'd have hurt Sorel, that would've been murder, and that is not what we're talking about here!
Roy: How many others are we talking about?
Melissa: Does that matter? I mean --
Roy: It does matter if they didn't ask.
Melissa: Some couldn't ask. But I knew it was what they wanted.
Melissa: It was experience. After a while, you just -- you just know, Roy. Edward, okay? Edward was going on and on about how he didn't want to live anymore. But I know that depression is a very common postop symptom from bypass surgery, and I know that as his body gets stronger and then his spirit is going to get stronger, and Edward is going on to live a very long and happy life with my total blessing.
Roy: So you never considered another option?
Melissa: If you don't believe me, why don't you just go have me checked out again? I know what I'm doing, and I know when it's right.
Edward: You're wasting your breath.
Ned: I haven't said a word.
Edward: Whatever it is you want, Ned, I'm fresh out. The well is dry.
Ned: I called Alan to see how you were doing.
Edward: Well, now you see.
Ned: He told me Skye came by for a visit and you two had quite a scene. You really had something on her, didn't you?
Edward: Well, your -- your cousin's comeuppance was almost within reach. But Skye took the teeth out of it and bit me right back.
Ned: Isn't it time you let someone help you?
Edward: Are you suggesting yourself? Oh, Ned, you're a -- you're a kinder, gentler person. You used to be a force to be reckoned with. But now your head is filled with cream cheese, and Skye would have you for lunch.
Ned: I bet she thinks so, too.
Edward: What are you saying?
Ned: Well, if Skye’s convinced that I'm a harmless, would-be record executive and you're nothing but a broken old man, she won't see us coming, will she?
Edward: You're setting her up.
Ned: Possibly. Care to join me?
Edward: Deal. Now wipe that smug look off your face and let's get serious, buddy. Oh.
Lucky: Yeah, yeah, Sarah was a star in the emergency room.
Sarah: You had a doctor who thought he knew all the answers, and when I pointed out that you had a collapsed lung, it seems his ego got a little punctured, too.
Lucky: She saved your life.
Sarah: Oh, Lizzie, I'm so glad you're okay.
Lucky: So, what can I get for you? Juice, water, magazine? Flowers?
Elizabeth: Lucky, how long have you been here?
Lucky: Not too long.
Sarah: He hasn't left your side.
Elizabeth: Then what I want is for you to take a break.
Sarah: Exactly what I told him.
Lucky: Well, how can I say no when you ask me like that? All right.
Elizabeth: He's really trying, isn't he?
Sarah: He just cares about you, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth: I know.
Sarah: Get some rest, okay?
Sarah: All right. I'll be back. Okay.
Nikolas: Hey. Are you in the mood for a visitor? Hmm?
Elizabeth: How's Gia?
Nikolas: She's worried about you, like all of us. Physically, she's fine. No injuries.
Nikolas: How are you feeling?
Elizabeth: I was trying to remember --
Nikolas: The accident?
Nikolas: Is anything coming to mind?
Elizabeth: No, not -- not much. I know that I was -- I was in the car with Gia and we were arguing over something stupid.
Nikolas: Yeah? Anything else?
Elizabeth: Well -- oh, God. I think I'm seeing it.
Nikolas: You're seeing what?
A.J.: Hey. How's Courtney?
Skye: She just went to bed and she's sound asleep, by the way.
A.J.: I'm not surprised.
Skye: And where have you been? My imagination's been running wild.
A.J.: I arranged an audience for Sonny. You see, he was concerned that I might be getting a little hot onto Courtney’s trail.
Skye: And you convinced him that you weren't and he just let you go, just like that?
A.J.: You see, I proved my innocence, Skye. By letting myself get caught looking for Courtney, it means I don't know where she is.
Skye: Oh, yeah. And that'll satisfy Sonny for like, what, five minutes?
A.J.: It buys me the time I need. Which reminds me -- there's something I need for you to do for me.
Skye: Oh, goody. I get to be an accomplice.
A.J.: Would you have a little faith, please?
Skye: Oh, speaking of faith, I convinced Courtney that she could trust you. Yeah. She was wondering if you were going to want to jump her bones, and I said, "No, of course not. A.J.'S not like that. He's merely looking for a friend." Yes, give the lady an Oscar.
A.J.: I'm surprised at you. Of course that's not my goal.
Skye: Oh, and your intentions are as pure as the driven snow, are they?
A.J.: Skye, I'm looking at the big picture here, okay? Now, I would never make Courtney do something she doesn't want to. Of course, by the time I'm finished with her, she'll want to do it all. And Sonny won't be able to lift a finger to stop me.
Mike: Look, if -- if you hear from Courtney --
Alexis: We will call you. And if you hear, you of course will call us?
Mike: Yeah, I will.
Alexis: I know that you're worried about her, Mike.
Mike: Yeah, well, I'm worried about Sonny, too. Can you make sure he's okay? Uh, I know he listens to you.
Alexis: I'll do my best.
Sonny: Thanks for getting him out of here. I'm going to call it a night.
Alexis: Whoa, not so fast.
Sonny: What do you mean? There's nothing more you can do.
Alexis: Sure. I can listen.
Sonny: I -- I hate this. I mean, Janine called it. So did that bastard A.J. -- he got it right. I -- Courtney is alone because of me. The more I try to reach out to her, the further I pushed her away. I do that to people.
Alexis: I know you do that. You tried to do that to me.
Sonny: Yes, I did.
Alexis: It didn't work. I don't know, maybe it never will.
Sonny: "Never" is a strong word.
Alexis: I think maybe you're stuck with me. I'm sorry.
Nikolas: You're seeing, what, the -- the accident?
Elizabeth: I thought I was, but I don't know. It's gone. Oh.
Nikolas: You've had a traumatic experience, Elizabeth.
Nikolas: You know? And even if it comes back to you, you may not remember all the details.
Elizabeth: Maybe it's for the best.
Nikolas: I'll tell you what -- whatever you're not clear on, I'll be more than happy to help you fill in. Okay?
Elizabeth: Thanks. It's just so terrible to think about.
Nikolas: I know.
Lucky: Hey, Nikolas. Can I speak to you for a minute?
Nikolas: Yeah, sure. Excuse me.
Lucky: I won't keep him long.
Nikolas: What is it?
Lucky: Elizabeth just gets out of surgery and the first thing you start doing is asking her about the accident?
Nikolas: Look, Lucky, I think it might help to talk about it. Okay?
Lucky: Well, I don't think so because she needs to be recuperating right now, not remembering a nightmare. She really needs to keep her head clear of all that bad stuff right now, okay?
Nikolas: I disagree.
Taggert: Elizabeth, can I come in?
Taggert: How are you feeling?
Elizabeth: I think someone stuffed my head with cotton.
Taggert: Sounds about right for postops.
Elizabeth: Have you seen Gia?
Taggert: Oh, yeah.
Elizabeth: She's okay?
Taggert: Well, you know my sister. She always bounces back. You mind if I ask you a few questions?
Nikolas: You know what? It might help to get it out in the open so we can clear our heads about it and put it behind us, you know?
Lucky: She's not going to forget about it.
Nikolas: Look, that's not what I meant. Okay? That's not what I meant.
Lucky: Well, you know what? If you want to go visit her, go visit her. But just stay off of the accident. Okay?
Elizabeth: It's still a little hazy. But some of it's coming back.
Taggert: Good. You just tell me everything you remember, all right? How'd the accident happen?
Melissa: Roy, it's just that you don't know my patients and you don't know the way they suffer and the kind of pain they're in, and I can help them.
Roy: You play God.
Melissa: No. Just God's messenger. God knows what kind of pain these people are in, Roy, and he does not judge me. And they're in heaven now and they're at peace. I don't know how there could be anything wrong with that.
Roy: It's okay.
Melissa: Thank you so much.
Roy: It's okay, baby.
Melissa: I knew you'd understand. I knew you would.
Roy: I love you so much.
Melissa: Thank you.
Roy: Okay. You're going to have to go and turn yourself in. If you don't, I'll have to do it for you.
>> On the next "General Hospital" --
Elton: It seems that Luke sent you another e-mail.
Taggert: The other driver was Sonny's little sister, Courtney Matthews.
Jax: If I was going to use Carly, it'd be much more effective if I slept with her.
Melissa: Please don't do this to me! Please! I am begging you!
