Nikolas: You were staring at me like you'd seen a ghost. What's wrong?
Jax: Telling that girl that Edward’s heart attack was her fault was plain old garden-variety viciousness.
Zander: I made friends with you because Sonny asked me to.
Sonny: I wanted to protect you!
Courtney: By assaulting an innocent man?
Sonny: Stop defending him! I never wanted her to see ugly things.
Alexis: Tell her that you're sorry.
Laura: You're nothing like Stavros. Why would you even say such a thing?
Nikolas: That wasn't what I asked.
Laura: Stavros is dead. Don't invite him back, not even in your mind.
Nikolas: So, are you telling me that you never think about him ever?
Laura: I try not to. I mean, there are times when the memories come back, but --
Nikolas: I don't know. I just -- it seems that -- that he's even more real to me now than when he was alive.
Carly: Okay, so let me get this straight. This whole time that you have been in my club, at my house, playing pool, Sonny was paying you to spy on me?
Zander: I wouldn't -- I wouldn't put it that way exactly.
Carly: Okay, well, how long exactly?
Zander: It all started when you went in business with Jax.
Carly: Oh, okay, so this is because I'm working with Jax. Well, didn't I call that one? You know what? I asked you. I asked you that first day at Kelly’s. I asked you point blank, and you said no!
Zander: I diverted you.
Carly: Oh, come on, I invented that excuse, Zander! "Diverted" is just another way of saying that you lied. So, whose idea was this for me to help you get over Emily? Was that Sonny? Or was that one you?
Zander: Wanting to get over Emily was real. Okay, Sonny just asked me to watch you because he wanted to make sure you were okay.
Carly: Oh, look, Sonny doesn't want me in business with Jax because he doesn't think I am smart enough.
Zander: No, that is not true.
Carly: And now this way he has a man on the inside so when he wants to take over the business and do whatever he wants --
Zander: Carly, you have every right to be mad, okay?
Carly: Okay, so tell me. How does this one work? Huh? Do you call him after the end of every day?
Zander: No. No, I don’t.
Carly: God, you know what the problem is here? I don't know whether I should believe you or not. Just get out of my face.
Zander: No, no. Not until you understand why I had to tell you.
Courtney: May I come in?
A.J.: You know what? You shouldn't be here.
Courtney: No one knows I am. I really need to talk to you. It's important.
A.J.: Okay. I just don't want you getting in trouble.
Courtney: Oh. Sorry, I thought you were alone.
A.J.: No, no, no, no. It's okay. We were just saying good-bye.
Courtney: No, you know what? I can catch up with you --
A.J.: Hey, please, please, come on in. Make yourself comfortable, really. It'll just be a second, okay?
Skye: I'll speak to you later. But you promise me, think about what I said.
A.J.: Relax, okay? I got it all under control.
Skye: Oh, yeah. So does Sonny.
A.J.: My odds would be a lot better if my sister would help me.
Skye: What? You seem to think you've got it all under control. As for myself, I've got some damage control to do. Thanks to little Mary Sunshine in there, I've got a lot of ground to recapture with Jax.
A.J.: Well, good luck.
Skye: I don't need luck. I need a plan.
A.J.: Yeah, well -- so, can I get you anything?
Courtney: I can't stay long. I need to know if something's true or not.
A.J.: Okay. What?
Courtney: Yes or no -- did Sonny take your son from you?
Sonny: Well, I didn't know there was any mystery about how you feel about me. You tell me every chance you get. Apparently there's something more to it. So the next logical question would be, how do you feel about me?
Carly: No, you know what? There is no point in trying to explain. I'm pretty clear on what happened.
Zander: Carly, look, okay? Sonny's intentions were good. Okay, he didn't ask me to watch you for any other reason except that he cares.
Carly: Oh, yeah, he cares. He cares, all right. Not enough to ever forgive me or trust me again, but just enough so he can tell himself that he is looking out for me. Not to mention the fact that the more he knows, the more he can keep controlling me.
Zander: Carly, look, Sonny has a lot of enemies, okay? He doesn't want any of them hurting you to get back at him. Also, you are the mother of his son. That gives him a right to be interested, does it not? Am I wrong?
Carly: No, you were wrong to pretend that you were my friend, when all you were was a spy for my ex-husband.
Zander: Carly, I've never pretended to be your friend, okay? That part was for real. And I want to stay your friend, unless I've already blown that.
Alexis: How do I feel about you?
Sonny: Just say it. Okay, wait. You know what? This is not fair because I'm making you do something uncomfortable when I think I have an idea of what you're trying to say.
Alexis: You do?
Alexis: You -- oh.
Sonny: I asked you to help me with Courtney and you tried, right, and I practically took your head off.
Alexis: Yeah, but that -- well --
Sonny: Okay, wait. Just let me -- sit down for a second.
Sonny: What happened when I was a kid is not something that I -- I tell people or I want them to know. Talking too much when I was growing up only made things worse. Sometimes it would get you smacked, and my mom and I -- we kind of had to, you know, keep our mouth shut. I don't want that for Courtney and me. I want us to trust each other like you and Kristina. But it's not your job to make that happen. I should have never asked. I know that my life is a lot more complicated now since -- you know, since you agreed to be my lawyer, and if you're looking for a way out, then I understand.
[Knock on door]
Johnny: The super is here, something about your oven.
Alexis: Oh. Yeah. I got to take care of that. I'll be right back.
A.J.: Look, what happened in the limo with Sonny's men is exactly why you shouldn't be here now. Sonny has no use for me, and he has his reasons. Some are his fault, some are mine, but none of which have anything to do with you. Now, look, you are just beginning a relationship --
Courtney: It's a yes-or-no question, A.J. Did Sonny take your son?
A.J.: I don't want you in the middle of this. I'm serious. Let it go.
Courtney: I am going to find out what he did eventually, so just tell me. Did you give your child up or did Sonny take him?
A.J.: I never gave up Michael.
Courtney: How could Sonny do that?
A.J.: I have made a lot of mistakes, okay, and there are consequences for that. That's all.
Courtney: Okay. So, in other words, you're being blamed for Sonny and Carly losing their baby, so Sonny takes yours? Oh, God. How does life get so twisted? How am I supposed to know who or what to believe? My mother lies about my father, so I want to believe him, but Sonny hates him. And then I've got Carly and your sister coming down on me --
A.J.: You know what? They shouldn't be doing that. Courtney, you -- you are just -- you are so sweet. I mean, you shouldn't be involved in all this stuff. You should be out skiing, meeting your friends.
Courtney: No. What I should be doing is jumping in my car and going back to Atlantic City, where my life was perfectly normal.
A.J.: Yeah, well, I don't think that bucket of rust would make it that far.
Courtney: Don't make fun of my car. Oh, okay, I have to admit, though. When you lift up the floor mat on the passenger side --
Courtney: It's so rusted out, you can see the road go by.
A.J.: You're kidding me. That's terrible.
Courtney: Yeah. Yeah, but it did teach me to always look underneath things before I bought them.
A.J.: Yeah, well, lemon-mobile aside, you're right. You know, what you need when -- when people are putting a lot of pressure are you, what you need is a way to escape. Now, I chose alcohol, but I don't recommend that.
Courtney: What are you looking for?
A.J.: I'm coming up with an idea that might help you.
Laura: Nikolas, I can't tell you that your memories of your father will vanish overnight, but they will fade over time.
Nikolas: I want to ask you something, and answer me honestly. When you look at me, do you see my father?
Laura: No. I mean, do I see physical similarities? Yes, of course, I do. But, Nikolas, inside, your heart and your soul are completely different from your father's.
Nikolas: I found a letter that Stavros wrote the day I was born. And it was full of love and hope, and that's the image of my father that just -- it won't -- it won't let go of me.
Courtney: I should go. I told my dad I'd be right back.
A.J.: No, please. This will only take a second. So are you meeting your dad for dinner?
Courtney: No. Actually, we got a suite here at the hotel for a while.
A.J.: What happened with Alexis?
Courtney: I needed my space. And besides, it'll give us a chance to get to know each other again.
A.J.: You know what? I'm really glad you're getting a chance to work things out with your dad.
Courtney: I don't know if we can, but I keep hearing what you said to me -- that it's never too late.
A.J.: That's true. Wait long enough, and the chance you never thought would come along is suddenly staring right at you. Anyway, should things not work out with your dad, whatever, you need an escape route -- here.
Courtney: What's this?
A.J.: Mad money.
A.J.: People tell me I'm pretty mad.
Courtney: I can't accept this.
A.J.: Sure, you can.
Courtney: I hardly know you. Why are you doing this? And what do I have to do in return?
Carly: Do you want to know how many friends I have made in my life? Three -- including you. So considering that you are the only one who's still around, then I guess I'll keep you. God, you know, you haven't blown it, Zander. You told me the truth, and it's actually a nice thing that you did.
Zander: Well, I'm glad you think so because Sonny sure won’t.
Carly: He's never going to find out.
Zander: I got to tell him.
Carly: Are you insane?
Zander: Carly, come on. You, of all people, know you can't keep secrets from Sonny.
Carly: Okay, well, I got caught. It doesn't mean you will. I will never say anything to him, and you can continue to collect the easiest paycheck that you've ever made.
Zander: No, no. Sonny's been fair with me; I have to be honest with him.
Carly: Well, you know, he didn't seem to have any kind of a problem asking you to be dishonest with me.
Zander: Oh, come on, Carly. That's because he knew if I told you that I was supposed to watch you that you wouldn't let me anywhere near you. Then look at all the fun you would have missed.
Carly: All right, forget about the fun, okay? I want to know, have you -- have you told Sonny things that I thought were just between us that were private? Oh, God. What?
Zander: Look, Sonny asked -- Sonny gave me this assignment because he cares about you. Okay? He doesn't want you to get hurt. So he said if you were ever to do anything crazy, that I should let him know. So when he was in Puerto Rico, I called him when Mike was desperate to find Janine and told him that he had recruited you to help.
Carly: And what else?
Zander: That's it.
Carly: Have you told him that I still love him? And that I miss him? And that I go ballistic every time I see him and Alexis together? And that I know he has moved on with his life and it hurts?
Zander: No, but I think maybe you should tell him that yourself.
Carly: Yeah. I'll make sure to phone Alexis and ask her if there's a minute that she won't be with him.
Zander: Carly, look, I haven't told Sonny about any of the personal stuff. But if you're going to start second-guessing everything that I ever said to you, then this isn't going to work, okay, and I really want it to. Sonny asked me to be your friend, and somewhere along the way it became real. But friends are honest with each other. But I also have to be honest with Sonny or I can't work for him.
Carly: Okay. I'm not going to tell you what to do. But think about it.
Zander: I -- I should probably go.
Carly: Yeah. Just tell me what you decide, all right?
Zander: I will. I will.
Carly: Yes, Mr. Jacks. It's Carly. Remember me? Long time no anything. Listen, I just wanted to tell you I have changed my mind about the club. I'm just going to burn it down for insurance money. Maybe that'll get his attention.
Jax: You okay?
Skye: Well, I've been better and certainly worse. By the way, I've given up on trying to be a better person. You know, the last two times it almost got me and A.J. killed.
Jax: Is that supposed to make me ask you what happened?
Skye: No. But the last incident did make me realize that I'd rather live my life as a lesser person. A longer life, mind you, but not as a corpse with a merit badge.
Jax: Okay. What happened?
Skye: It's not your problem.
Jax: Look, don't cut your nose off to spite your face, okay?
Skye: The way things are going, someone else can do it for me.
Skye: Who else?
Sonny: Yeah, let me know when you hear, then. Yeah.
Sonny: What's wrong with your oven?
Alexis: Control knob.
Sonny: Oh. Doesn't work?
Alexis: No, it was missing. I never had one.
Alexis: So, where were we?
Sonny: I don't know. You -- I guess you were about to resign.
Alexis: I'm not quitting. I think I'm going to take a lesson from you, and I'm going to just keep my mouth shut.
Sonny: You're kidding, right?
Sonny: Well, whatever it is has got your eyes all, like, big and your heart racing. I can see the pulse in your neck. But you know something? You are too important to me, okay, to let this slide. So whatever you want, you know, if you need me to make something go away or make something happen, just say the word and it's yours.
Nikolas: This letter that he wrote -- it proved everything to me. Everything he said. And you know what? I could see the pain in his eyes when I looked at him and I said to him that I wanted nothing to do with him. But what eats me is, how can a man who claims to love that much do what he did?
Laura: I don't know. But for what it's worth, I think that your father did love you as much as he was capable of loving anyone. You understand? But, unfortunately, that really doesn't change who he was.
Nikolas: And that makes it worse. It just makes it worse.
Nikolas: I don't -- I don't know. I don't know.
Laura: Nikolas, what do you want?
Skye: Then Sonny's goons dragged A.J. out of the car, and Courtney’s standing there yelling at them to stop, and Sonny's just standing there with that glib look on his face. You know, I really think -- I really think that A.J. and I would have been fish food tonight if it hadn't been for that phone call I got off to the police. But, hey, you know, none of this is your problem.
Jax: No, you listen. If Sonny causes you any more trouble, I want to know about it.
Skye: This is not your battle, all right? I can deal with it.
Jax: Like you have so far? Come on, Skye, you're in over your head.
Skye: Jax, you know, if this the prelude to another chivalrous rescue, you can forget about it. I can protect myself.
Skye: Well, for starters, that self-defense class I signed up for this morning to get out my aggression is looking better and better.
Jax: Come on, Skye.
Skye: Hey. I put you on the floor once, didn't I?
Johnny: The super needs an oven thermometer to check the temperature.
Johnny: Can he borrow yours?
Sonny: No. Go on.
Sonny: Why are you stalling?
Alexis: I'm not stalling.
Alexis: I'm just waiting for the right words. Because, you know, words have consequences and -- especially when there's feelings involved. It's -- I mentioned how important it is to express your feelings. However, it is equally important that some feelings remain unexpressed. Because some thoughts need to be edited. I mean, not ever thought can be unedited. Not every feeling can be unedited. I mean, my sister has unedited thoughts and feelings and -- and I envy that on some level. But, for the most part, I'm glad Kristina’s Kristina and I'm me. I'm happy being Alexis right now, status quo.
Johnny: Sonny --
Sonny: Johnny, do -- next time you interrupt us without us finishing here, you're fired.
Johnny: Got it.
Sonny: All right. You were saying?
Alexis: I said it. I said it. Really, I was just talking about that -- you know you'll communicate the way you communicate, I communicate the way that I communicate, and I think that we'll all just be fine with that. So that's it, I said it.
Sonny: Oh, you expect me to settle for that?
Sonny: I -- I don't want you to compromise on anything. I don't want you to hold back how you feel, okay? If -- if you think, you know, that I've done something else that's wrong, then you tell me. Or if you want --
Sonny: More of, you know, perks, privacy, or maybe some time off, you just tell me. Just be honest.
A.J.: I don't want anything from you, Courtney. It's a gift.
Courtney: No one gives anyone $10,000 without strings attached.
A.J.: Okay, look, I know how this is going to sound, so cut me a little slack, but I can't help which family I was born into. To me, it's not a lot of money. In fact, it's pocket change. But for you, it's an escape route.
Courtney: How does that work?
A.J.: Well, it's a lot easier to stick things out when you have options, and that money gives you freedom.
Courtney: My mom loves to say, "The only thing holding us back is our empty pockets."
A.J.: Yeah, well, money in your pocket definitely takes a lot of pressure off things.
Courtney: You have to be doing this for some reason.
A.J.: My family's caused you a lot of grief, Courtney. You wouldn't even be in this town if not for my grandfather.
Courtney: Whom my mother tried to blackmail.
A.J.: You got a lot to deal with, even without a long-lost father and a brother you never knew. Suddenly your life has become pretty complicated. And this money -- it just -- it gives you options, that's all. But the key to a secret stash is that no one, no one must know you have it to fall back on. Only you, okay? Now, if things should get difficult, you just knock on my door, you come in, you unlock this and you take it. You don't have to say a word. Okay?
Courtney: Okay. Great. But I really do have to get going.
A.J.: Okay. Well, you're welcome anytime. Okay? But just don't get in trouble for it. Thanks for the visit.
Jax: Someone here report a fire or something?
Carly: Mr. Jacks. What an unexpected visit. Is your plane grounded, or did you maybe break your cell phone while you were changing a flat on your Porsche? Although it's actually nice to have somebody trust me to put one foot in front of the other without sending in a watchdog. It's rather refreshing.
Jax: Well, you're welcome. Sonny bothering you?
Carly: Oh, no. Just venting. You see, Sonny did something that he thought was considerate. But actually it was insulting, but it's the thought that counts, right?
Jax: Wrong, it's not. No, it's -- you see, Sonny is a control freak, which, given his propensity for violence, makes him dangerous.
Carly: Okay, be careful. You're talking about my son's father. What did he do to you today?
Jax: Nothing I can't handle.
Carly: Don't let me add any fuel to the fire, okay, because if there was ever a day that I would completely cut Sonny loose, this would be the day.
Sonny: So, what's the spread? Yeah, yeah, just do it. Okay. Sorry about that.
[Knock on door]
Johnny: It's Zander. He says it's --
Sonny: Not now, Johnny! Okay --
Johnny: He says it's about Carly.
Sonny: Let him in. Sorry.
Zander: Sorry to interrupt.
Sonny: What's the problem?
Zander: Well, I hope there's not one, but Carly knows I've been watching her.
Sonny: How the hell did that happen?
Zander: I told her.
Zander: But, look, she's cool with it.
Sonny: Oh, you know that, huh? How long have you known Carly, Zander?
Zander: Look, I'm telling you, Sonny, she's cool with it. And if anything, she trusts me more now.
Sonny: Not enough to listen to you, not enough to pay attention when you tried to stop her from doing something crazy and she blows her life apart, because now what's going to happen is every time you tell her to do something, she's going to think it's coming from me, and she's going to turn around and do the exact opposite of what you say.
Zander: I couldn't keep lying to her face.
Sonny: That's what you get paid to do! You don't work for Carly. You work for me.
Alexis: Zander has a point.
Zander: Hey, I don't need you to defend me right now. Look, I know that you don't like this, okay, but I've been honest with Carly and I've been with honest with you, and nothing has to change. I can still watch Carly, and she can know, and she really is okay with it.
Sonny: Zander, did you understand when I hired you that you do what I say when I say and how I say to do it?
Sonny: Okay. So when I give an order, I have my reasons, and I don't have to explain to you why I want my orders followed.
Sonny: So did you not hear when I told you I do not want Carly to know?
Zander: What I heard you say is to be Carly's friend.
Zander: That means what she thinks and feels matters.
Zander: I thought that mattered to you, too.
Sonny: Okay. Right. Well, what doesn't matter to me now is you. You don't work for me anymore. Not in the warehouse, not anywhere because I cannot trust you. Do you understand what I'm saying? You call Benny, and you pick up your last check, and you get out.
Zander: Wait a second, Sonny. Look, you don't understand. This is not --
Sonny: Get out!
Zander: Yeah, I get it. I get it. I'm only sorry that you can’t.
Courtney: Hey. I got the suite number from the front desk.
Mike: Where have you been?
Courtney: I got lost in the shops. Which one is my room?
Mike: That one.
Courtney: Is there a view?
Mike: Courtney, wait. Wait a second. We've got a couple of things we need to get straight here. Look, I -- I know that you're angry with Sonny, but I don't want this at the expense of your relationship with your brother.
Courtney: He doesn't care about you.
Mike: If you think that Sonny is hard on other people, he's even harder on himself. Forgiving is probably the hardest thing for him to do.
Courtney: That's a terrible way to be.
Mike: Well, forgiveness is -- doesn't come easily for everyone. Now, what -- what about you? Are you saying that you might find a way to forgive me for what I did to you?
Nikolas: If I knew what I wanted, I wouldn't be in such hell right now. I don't know. Maybe it's just the fact that I didn't have enough time to process he was alive before he died. I don't know, you know --
Laura: Nikolas, have you talked to Gia about any of this?
Nikolas: No, no, and I don't want to.
Laura: Why not?
Nikolas: Gia wouldn't understand.
Laura: But if you tried to explain it to her, you might find some answers --
Gia: Oh -- I thought you were alone. I hope I didn't interrupt anything.
Nikolas: No, no, not at all. My mother was just leaving.
Laura: Oh, okay. Well, why don't you give me a call, then, later?
Nikolas: I'm fine, okay?
Nikolas: Subject closed.
Gia: Welcome back.
Laura: Thanks. So, is it true? I hear you're not interested in negotiating a second year with Deception?
Gia: Laura, I -- I loved the opportunity. I hope you know that. And I will finish out my contract for this year. But my life is about to change radically, and I want to be with Nikolas.
Nikolas: I think Gia's realized how many parties and social events we'll be expected to attend.
Gia: I hope I'm not letting you down. I just want my marriage to be my priority.
Laura: I see. Well, it's Deception's loss, and I can certainly understand your reasons. All right, well, I'll see you both.
Nikolas: Yeah, I'll -- I'll let the launch pilot know you're on your way down.
Nikolas: My mother's on her way down. Thank you.
Gia: I didn't interrupt anything, did I?
Nikolas: No, you didn't.
Gia: You okay? Is there anything you want to talk about?
Nikolas: Not at all.
Courtney: I don't know if I can forgive you yet. I'm still getting used to the idea that you're alive.
Mike: Well, I guess that's a fair answer. So, look, why don't you check out your room, and what say we splurge and order up some room service?
Courtney: Sounds good. I want to get something straight with you, too, though.
Courtney: I'm not a kid, okay? I paid for my own car, I pick my own friends, and I make my own schedule. We can use this time to get to know each other again, but I don't report back to you. Okay? And I get to deal with things in my own way.
Mike: No problem. I'll let you deal with your mother when she finds out where you are.
Courtney: So you can accept those terms?
Mike: You are a smart, beautiful young woman, and I don't know how that happened, but I didn't -- I can't take any credit for it. I'll respect your privacy and I will try my best to make -- let you make up your own mind about things. And if this doesn't work, you tell me and we will try something else.
A.J.: Congratulate me. I have just been dubbed into shining knighthood. My white charger should arrive at any moment. So how'd it go?
Skye: Not quite so shining. I ran into Jax at the gym.
A.J.: Hmm. Did you come up with a plan?
Skye: Not yet.
A.J.: Well, let me think of something. Let me help.
Skye: I can't ever remember seeing you like this.
A.J.: Well, this is me -- the winner. Get used to it because I think I've finally found my game. You see, Skye, there are two things to use when you want something out of someone -- get them to love you, or capitalize on their hatred for someone else.
Skye: Well -- I know which one would work for me.
Carly: I am not defending Sonny. I am just saying that I know where he's coming from sometimes. Okay, he thinks he knows what is best for the people he cares about, but he does not know what's best for me. So, partner, are you ready to see the soon-to-be most fabulous club this town has ever seen?
Jax: You know, I already caught some glimpses on the way in. But, hey, by all means, lead the way. You know what? If I haven't said it yet -- and I don't think I have -- you've done an amazing job so far. I mean, your instincts were right. And -- oh, of course, so was my decision to back you.
Carly: Of course.
Jax: Listen, seriously, if Sonny gives you any more trouble, you tell me and I'll take care of it.
Carly: No. I'll take care of Sonny. Come on.
Sonny: Benny. Hey. Do me a favor. Cash Zander out. I don't want him back on my property again. Yeah, thanks. All right.
Alexis: I'm ready --
Sonny: Oh. Okay.
Alexis: To express my feelings.
Alexis: I don't need to tell you this because you know that I loathe that Zander works for you.
Alexis: I tried to convince him not to, I gave him all kinds of alternatives, but he wasn't interested because he's loyal to you, Sonny. So loyal that he will follow your code and come over here and tell you the truth about something.
Sonny: Well --
Alexis: How do you repay him? You treat him like an incompetent, and then you fire him without giving it a second thought.
Sonny: Zander didn't follow my orders. What do you want me to tell you? He didn’t.
Alexis: Why do you think Mike didn't tell you about Courtney? Why do you think Carly didn't tell you about the FBI? Because you are incapable of making allowances for anybody else's weaknesses. Forget about weaknesses. You're incapable of making allowances for anybody's choices that they have the right to make. You go on and on and on and on about your holy truth, how important the truth is to you. You want the truth? I'll give you the truth, although, quite frankly, you really don't handle it very well. And given the fact that you have assigned Zander to lie to Carly for you makes you one big fat hypocrite. You want to know how I feel about you right now? I think you stink.
>> On the next "General Hospital" --
Gia: You almost through?
Nikolas: Would that be with or without distractions?
Gia: Is that what I am?
Carly: How did things go with Sonny?
Alexis: Go ahead, ask me. I know you're dying to.
Ned: Ask you about what?
Kristina: I'm not leaving until I say what I came to say.
