Janine: You told the Quartermaines the truth? We are getting out of here tonight.
Sonny: No, she's not.
Radio announcer: The countdown is about to start.
All: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5 --
Lucky: Elizabeth --
Gia: I couldn't let Elizabeth go through with it.
Nikolas: It was not your business.
Gia: Well, it was E's!
Jax: You know, I have no intention of attacking you. I can think of much better ways to celebrate the New Year. Thanks. Care to join me?
Skye: I'm not interested in your offer, Mr. Jacks.
Kristina: What was that?
Ned: What do you think?
Roy: Happy New Year.
Melissa: Too bad the next 12 can't be like this.
Roy: Who says they can't? We could just make it be our own personal challenge, just to keep it --
Skye: Very smooth, the way you persuaded my grandfather to disinherit his own family and make you the sole heir.
Melissa: Skye, I haven't done anything wrong, which is more than I can say for you, treating your grandfather like that.
Skye: Imagine what I can do to you if I'm willing to go that far with my own grandfather. Well, if you think that this --
Roy: Ok, why don't you go be miserable someplace else? We're trying to celebrate here.
Skye: Well, I don't blame you. It's not every year you get a multimillion-dollar payoff.
Melissa: What planet is she from?
Roy: Remind me never to go there.
Alexis: Courtney, my client would like the opportunity to get to know you better, and he's willing to provide you with appropriate accommodations for as long as you choose to stay in Port Charles.
Courtney: Your client?
Sonny: This is my attorney, Alexis Davis.
Janine: Do me a favor and don't try to intimidate us with your lawyer. Courtney and I are leaving tonight.
Sonny: Is that what you want?
Carly: Ok, so you were right. I was bluffing when I said that I wanted to spend tonight alone. New Year's is definitely not the holiday to spend by yourself.
Zander: Look, fireworks.
Carly: Oh, look. Oh, wow. Look at that red one.
Zander: Wow, it's a great night for them.
Carly: Sonny donated the money to the city. He loves fireworks. Oh, wow. They are so beautiful.
Zander: Yeah, they really are.
Carly: You know, I'm really glad that you're here so we can see them together.
Zander: Happy New Year.
Carly: Happy New Year. Ah, look.
Luke: Oh, Happy New Year. Happy New Year. This is going to be a much better year than last.
Laura: I hope so. What about Lucky and Elizabeth? Do you think we should just check on them, maybe?
Luke: No. Look, this is their problem. You can't fix it for them, darling.
Nikolas: You had no right.
Gia: Well, I told Elizabeth the truth, which was a lot more than you and Lucky were willing to do.
Nikolas: Do you get this? You ruined my brother's wedding, Gia.
Gia: I stopped Elizabeth from making the biggest mistake of her life when you wouldn't. You were about to let Elizabeth marry a guy who didn't even love her. And I know why.
Elizabeth: You feel nothing for me?
Lucky: That's not true. You're a beautiful and incredible person, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth: But you don't love me.
Lucky: Those feelings will come back. I know they will.
Elizabeth: All this time. All this time and I came home and waited for you in your bed, and told you that I would love you forever --
Lucky: And I was happy and excited to see you, Elizabeth.
Elizabeth: You were going through the motions. Saying all the right words, but feeling… what? What do you see when you look at me? A stranger? Someone you should feel sorry for? What am I to you, Lucky?
Lucky: Elizabeth, please.
Elizabeth: Don't touch me.
Gia: You blame yourself because Helena wiped out Lucky's feelings for Elizabeth.
Nikolas: Love doesn't end, Gia. Isn't that what you're always telling me, huh? Lucky's feelings are still there for Elizabeth, all right? They have to be.
Gia: Look, I know you feel responsible for what your grandmother did to Lucky. But shoving him into a loveless marriage with Elizabeth is not the answer.
Elizabeth: How could you do this? What were you thinking?
Lucky: I was thinking that you're an amazing person, and I would be a fool to let you go. I was thinking that I want to spend the rest of my life making you happy, Elizabeth. I wanted to marry you. I still do.
Elizabeth: Don't say that.
Lucky: Why? It's what we both want. Come on, Elizabeth. Come downstairs with me. Marry me. Please? Please marry me.
Jax: That was rude.
Skye: What can I say? I'm known for my personality flaws.
Jax: I assume, to make your evening complete, you expect me to say something rude and walk out.
Skye: I'm sure you'll do what you want anyway. I mean, isn't that your motto or something?
Jax: What I want right now is to order a bottle of champagne and share it with you.
Skye: Sorry to disappoint you, but I'm an alcoholic. Recovering, that is, and I'd like to keep it that way.
Jax: Well, in that case, would you care to join me for a glass of ginger ale to toast the new year and your stunning victory?
Kristina: Water is actually better for you than champagne, surprisingly enough. Did you know that eight glasses a day of water not only opens up your pores, but it hydrates your whole body? I'm serious -- even more so than yoga or meditation --
Ned: You're babbling, Kristina. See, you know that I'm attracted to you, and you're panicking because of your sister.
Kristina: I know.
Carly: Ok, to -- to putting last year in the rearview mirror and starting fresh.
Zander: All right, and to your club -- soon to be the hottest place in town.
Carly: Ooh, yes. And to you. May the perfect woman walk into your life this year.
Zander: Why not?
Carly: Oh, don't be so cynical.
Carly: Hey. I'm in here, in the office. Ooh! Hey.
Mike: Well, this must be my lucky night. I -- I’ve been meaning to ask Zander why he took my daughter straight to Sonny. What are you really up to?
Courtney: It doesn't matter that you're supposed to be my brother. You don't know anything about me.
Sonny: I know how easy Mike is to love and how hard it is to find out that his love counts for nothing.
Courtney: Daddy didn't say anything about me?
Courtney: Then maybe we should leave it that way. My mom wants to go.
Sonny: Running is Mike's way out. You're stronger than that.
Courtney: How do you know?
Sonny: You went to the Quartermaines' tonight, right, and you told the truth. You did what you had to do to clean up your mother's mess. That told me a lot.
Janine: Courtney and I are leaving tonight.
Sonny: She has other options now.
Janine: She doesn't want any part of you.
Sonny: Why don't you let her answer for herself, Janine.
Kristina: You know that I like you, Ned. I mean, I more than like you. I think you're great.
Kristina: You almost married my sister. And I have spent the past couple weeks living with you and living with her, trying to get you two back together.
Ned: Alexis and I are over. She knows it, I know it, and now you need to know it. You also need to know that I didn't invite you out tonight because you happen to be her sister, but in spite of it.
Kristina: But, you see, I didn't go out with you in spite of it. I just went out with you and I ignored it, and now I just think this was a mistake.
Ned: Only if you're sorry we kissed.
Kristina: I don't know how I can answer that.
Ned: Because it's very complicated for both of us. But I like you. And I would like to proceed from here. So what do you say?
Kristina: I say that we go dance.
Roy: You shouldn't let Skye Quartermaine get to you, you know. Nobody believes you're working her old man for money.
Melissa: Just can't believe this is happening again.
Roy: What are you talking about?
Melissa: It's nothing. Aren't we supposed to be enjoying ourselves? Why aren't we dancing? Come on.
Roy: Let's dance.
Skye: To staying unpredictable.
Jax: With profitable returns.
Skye: Is that why you're so tolerant of my blackmailing my grandfather, because it made you money?
Jax: More or less.
Skye: So then you're not the saint that everybody thinks you are.
Jax: Whoever said I was a saint was sadly misinformed.
Skye: Because you're ruthless, driven, even a little dangerous.
Jax: I can be, but I can also be a good friend. I have no intention of double-crossing you,
Skye. But I do expect you to reciprocate.
Skye: So, friend, you have to have a New Year's resolution, hmm? I mean, there must be something you want besides money.
Jax: Yeah. I have a few things.
Skye: Me, too. You know, I understood when you said you felt your heart was closed off. I've felt that way. How about we give each other a good swift kick in the rear, hmm? Keep each other from getting predictable.
Jax: It's something to be considered.
Skye: To both of us.
Alexis: Sonny doesn't have an agenda here. In fact, he's gone to a considerable amount of trouble on your behalf.
Courtney: By walking out five minutes after he met me?
Sonny: I'm here now.
Courtney: You still haven't given me a reason. Is it to get back at m-- our dad? I mean, it's obvious you don't like him much.
Sonny: I have no use for Mike after what he did to you, but I had no use for him anyway. So it doesn't really matter.
Courtney: When you walked out, you looked right through him the same way you looked right through me.
Sonny: I saw you, Courtney.
Courtney: Maybe. But you sure as hell didn't seem to care about me.
Janine: All right, there's her answer. Courtney's going with me.
Courtney: No, no, I am not. I would rather sleep on the streets than stay with either one of you.
Alexis: Courtney, can I speak with you for a moment? Maybe I can give you just a little perspective.
Janine: I think she's had all the perspective she needs from you people.
Alexis: Before you decide to do anything, how about just five minutes?
Courtney: All right. Five minutes.
Laura: You know, Elton used to be a wedding planner. Maybe I could ask him how long the guests are obligated to stand around in the kitchen before it's polite to go home.
Luke: If you want, I'll just chase them out now.
Laura: I don't want Lucky and Elizabeth to come downstairs and see that we've canceled the wedding before they decided to.
Nikolas: Fine. Maybe some of this has to do with Helena, but the fact is I want Lucky to marry Elizabeth because I believe in what they have, Gia.
Gia: What they have is gone, and it may never come back.
Nikolas: You know what? I need to go see my brother. Ok?
Lucky: When Helena was winning, and my parents were locked underground, I didn't know what to do. I felt like I was coming apart at the seams. And then I thought of you. You held me together. And you promised me that you would be in my heart forever.
Elizabeth: It was a fantasy, a dream.
Lucky: No. It was you, Elizabeth. You saved me. Don't give up on that. We can get that back. I believe that with my whole heart.
Elizabeth: And what if we can't, Lucky? Where does that leave us? I don't want you to marry me to make me happy. I want you to be happy. I want us to be happy together. I just want you to love me.
Lucky: I want that, too.
Lucky: I want that, too, Elizabeth.
Lucky: We can fall in love all over again.
Elizabeth: You're honestly ready to go back downstairs and marry me?
Lucky: Right this minute.
Elizabeth: See, that's what I love about you. You're always willing to do what you think is right, no matter the cost.
Lucky: Don't say it like it's something that I don't want.
Elizabeth: You don't love me, Lucky. Marriage is impossible without love. I would come to resent you. You would resent me.
Elizabeth: The wedding is off.
Lucky: You're right. You're right, Elizabeth. I was an idiot to think that I could just pretend that nothing happened. You know, Nikolas even told me that I shouldn't push this, I shouldn't rush the wedding.
Elizabeth: Then why did you?
Lucky: Because I didn't want to see this look in your eyes.
Elizabeth: I'm all grown up, Lucky. I don't need anyone, including you, protecting me from the truth. Now, could you please go downstairs and tell everyone that we've decided to put things off?
Lucky: Are you going to be ok? Should I bring your grandmother up here?
Elizabeth: No. I'd rather be alone.
Gia: You must really hate me.
Lucky: Thank you all for coming and for waiting. I'm sorry. There's not going to be a wedding tonight. After speaking with Elizabeth, we realized that we rushed things. We're fine. We're fine. We're just going to -- we're going to take a little bit of time, that's all. But when we do get married, we sure would like to have all of you guys here with us. Thank you again for coming.
Elton: Well, thank you for having us. Amy, can I walk you to your car?
Amy: Why, yes. And let's both walk the Reverend to his car.
Nikolas: Let me -- allow me to get your coats.
Minister: Thank you.
Laura: I love you, honey.
Lucky: I love you, too, mom.
Laura: It's ok. Everything's going to be ok. I'm proud of you. You want to tell me what happened?
Lucky: Well, we just called things off. There's not really much more to say than that.
Laura: Ok. Well, I want to help you if you do want to talk about it.
Lucky: I need to get some air.
Nikolas: Lucky, I am -- I am so sorry.
Carly: Did you have any idea who Courtney was?
Zander: No, of course not. She came to me looking for a woman named Janine, so I took her to Sonny because he knew where to find Janine.
Mike: Did it ever occur to you to call me first?
Carly: Ok, enough, all right? Zander told you what happened. Yelling at him isn't going to make it any different.
Mike: Yeah, but if -- if he had -- if he had brought Courtney straight to me, I could have made it easier for her. I could have told Sonny in my own way.
Carly: Ok, well, going back over it isn't going to change it. Look, you know what? I think you need to go home and calm down, and -- look, we can talk in the morning.
Mike: Ok. All right, if that's what -- if that's what you want.
Carly: Ok, there is more to this than what you told Mike. Have you been lying to me?
Sonny: You didn't have to work very hard to get Courtney away from Mike because she knew from the gate he wouldn't go looking for her. But I will. And I'm telling you right now, don't even bother trying to disappear in the middle of the night.
Janine: You're a cold one, aren't you? Courtney was right when she said that you could look at a person like they weren't even there. And if they don't like it, what do you do? You send in your lawyer to fix everything.
Sonny: Alexis is trying to help Courtney.
Janine: By putting the screws to her?
Sonny: That's not what this is about and you know it.
Alexis: As Sonny's attorney, it is my job to argue in his best interests, which would be persuading you to stay. And as his friend, I'm asking you to stay. Legally, personally, you can do whatever you choose.
Alexis: Here's my card. You can call the bar association and have me checked out. They'll tell you I'm honest and in good standing.
Courtney: Maybe I will -- tomorrow.
Alexis: In the meantime, Sonny does not have an ulterior motive. He doesn't need you to make him rich. He doesn't need you to make him powerful. He doesn't even need you to make him punish Mike because he's perfectly capable of doing that all by himself. He just wants to get to know you, Courtney. And I would imagine you want to get to know him as well.
Courtney: I don't even think he likes me.
Alexis: Well, if you run away, how are you ever going to find that out?
Courtney: I'm not going to stay with a stranger.
Alexis: You don't have to stay with Sonny. You can stay with your mom or he can put you up at a hotel. My sister and I live right across the hall. You can stay with us.
Courtney: I'm sure your sister would be thrilled.
Alexis: My sister probably would be thrilled. She's a cool person.
Courtney: Is she a lawyer, too?
Alexis: No. She's a jack-of-all-trades. She's been all over the world. My sister and I were separated for a long time. And us coming back together was probably the best thing that ever happened to me. If you give Sonny a chance, you might be able to find that out.
Courtney: Are you sure your sister wouldn't mind?
Alexis: I'm positive. She'll probably think of this as some sort of karmic destiny. You'll like her. Everybody does.
Courtney: All right. I'll take you up on the offer -- for now.
Alexis: For now.
Ned: Give me warning if you bolt for the door.
Kristina: I'm not going to bolt.
Ned: From the party?
Kristina: From you. Although that has no implication that anything's ever going to happen between us.
Ned: Would you just stop talking, or I'm going to kiss you again.
Roy: You had enough of this public celebrating?
Melissa: You know, I think I'm ready to celebrate alone with you.
Roy: You're reading my mind.
Skye: Very smooth, Mr. Jacks.
Jax: Yeah, not bad for a couple of default dance partners.
Skye: Well, you work with what you got.
Jax: What are friends for?
Skye: This could be a great year.
Gia: Elizabeth, I really wanted you to marry Lucky. I swear, I did. After seeing you in your dress and thinking all of your dreams were about to come true, I just couldn't stand by and let you build your life on something that wasn't real. Look, I know you don't believe me. I just -- I thought that if I went along and said nothing --
Elizabeth: I'd rather not have this conversation right now.
Gia: Is there anything I can do?
Elizabeth: Yeah, I can't get this dress off.
Gia: Here, let me. You're all set.
Elizabeth: Thanks. I just want to be alone.
Nikolas: So, how's Elizabeth?
Lucky: How do you think?
Nikolas: Lucky, I should have never told Gia.
Lucky: Don't put this on Gia.
Laura: Well, it was almost a beautiful wedding. If you go for that sort of thing.
Luke: Well, that all depends on who's tying the knot.
Laura: Hey, why don't you help me clean this stuff up? Otherwise, I think I'm going to be tempted to go eavesdrop on my sons.
Luke: Come on, darling. Lucky can take care of himself.
Laura: I know. It's just a little bit hard for me to do nothing.
Luke: Well, then don't. I had something in the works long before the kids even decided to get married. Their plans may have fallen through, but ours don't have to.
Laura: You want me to go with you?
Luke: The sooner, the better.
Laura: I just -- what if Lucky needs us?
Luke: Darling, I hate to break the news to you, but he's a man and he can take care of his own love life. So, what do you say? Let's go tonight.
Laura: Tonight? Well, what about LuLu?
Luke: Your mother's already agreed to take Cupcake, so you got nothing keeping you here. Please say yes. I promise, you'll be glad you did.
Carly: Look, if you truly wanted to help Mike, then you would have called him the minute that Courtney mentioned Janine.
Zander: Whoa, whoa. Sonny had been home for days by the time I met Courtney. I figured Mike's problems are already taken care of one way or the other. Besides, how was I supposed to know he had a daughter that he never told Sonny about?
Carly: You have a point.
Zander: Yeah, I have a point. Look, I only agreed to help Mike because you asked me. And I should have turned you down. I'm loyal to Sonny. You know that.
Carly: Oh, is that why you showed up here tonight? Huh? Did Sonny make you cancel your date so I wouldn't spend New Year's alone?
Zander: No, I -- I came on my own because Mandy was the date from hell and I knew you were by yourself. And -- and I like you, Carly.
Carly: Well, I like you, too.
Alexis: This is my apartment. I have a copy of the lease if you'd like proof that I live here. And you should know that this not a ruse to trick your daughter into staying with Sonny.
Janine: Ah. Yeah, I'll see a copy of the lease.
Courtney: Please, mom. Will you give it a rest? I'll be fine. Just go.
Janine: All right, but come here and give me a hug. Good night, baby.
Courtney: Good night.
Sonny: Ok. Let Johnny know if you need anything.
Janine: I can't believe I'm doing this. It's not like I have any choice or anything. You pretty much get whatever you want, don't you?
Sonny: Why wouldn't I want to protect my sister?
Alexis: The kitchen is that way, not that you'll find anything in it. I don't cook. We order out of here. And the bedrooms are upstairs.
Courtney: You do that a lot.
Sonny: Do what?
Sonny: Oh. Eavesdroppers hide. I was standing right in the doorway.
Courtney: Ok, then. You sneak up on people and listen without them knowing.
Sonny: I'm polite. I try not to interrupt.
Courtney: And if you happen to hear some private information, that's just a fringe benefit, right?
Sonny: Well, the nuns always told me that good manners would, you know, give me an easy life. Are you hungry? Would you like -- you want me to cook you something?
Courtney: Uh -- I'm pretty tired. All I want is to go to bed. Upstairs?
Alexis: Yeah, second door on your right.
Courtney: I'll find it.
Courtney: Thanks for letting me stay.
Alexis: You're welcome, Courtney.
Sonny: The smartest thing I ever did was hire you.
Alexis: Happy New Year.
Sonny: Happy New Year.
Nikolas: I don't -- I don't know why I'm standing here defending Gia. I guess she thought what she was doing was right, no matter the consequences. I was the one who chose to confide in her, even though I didn't let down, the same way I chose to play along with Helena. I wanted to save you, Lucky. You know, I wanted to give you back to Elizabeth free and whole so you guys can have your life together, you know. And if what I did -- I was wrong. And I swear to you I will do everything I can to fix this.
Lucky: There's no point in second-guessing yourself, what you did and why you did it and who you told. And I'm not really interested in hearing how rotten you feel about it.
Nikolas: That's fair.
Lucky: I made the light -- I made it go out in Elizabeth's eyes tonight. I hurt her so badly. I crushed all of her hopes and all of her dreams. How do I get that light back?
Luke: So what do you say? Shall we go?
Laura: I feel a little uncomfortable about walking away from our son when he's just been left at the altar.
Luke: Darling, the last thing he wants right now is sympathy from his mother. He'll work it out.
Prove that you believe he can. Come with me.
