Clyde: Hello, son.
Clyde: What a surprise. I haven't heard a peep out of you since you found that little wife of yours thanks to my help. Must've been a hell of a reunion.
Ben: You could say that.
Clyde: You know, some folks would call it ungrateful for you to fall off the radar like that, but... I give you the benefit of the doubt. You had a lot catch up on, didn't you?
Clyde: Yeah. So why break radio silence now? What's going on?
Ben: I'm in trouble, dad. And I'm afraid I'm losing my mind again.
Melinda: Hello, mrs. Brady.
Melinda: I just had a long and somewhat surprising conversation with your attorney, justin kiriakis.
Melinda: He presented me with this--your signed confession to charlie dale's murder.
Belle: Why would that be surprising? I mean, you arrested me. You obviously believe I'm guilty.
Melinda: Oh, don't get me wrong. I'm happy to have a confession.
Belle: Okay, so what's the problem?
Melinda: Well, considering how adamantly you've been professing your innocence, to receive this on the day of your trial made me wonder... what made you change your mind?
Shawn: Okay. All right, let me know if you find it. Thanks.
Philip: No luck tracking down my mother's car?
Shawn: We've been reviewing traffic cam footage, and so far, there's no sign of the vehicle.
Philip: With chloe in the trunk.
Shawn: Of all the cars that jan could've stolen...
Philip: I can't imagine what must be going through chloe's mind. She gets away from kristen only to be taken by jan.
Shawn: Talk about out of the frying pan.
Jan: I just can't believe how clean the air is up here. Ahh, and the scenery-- so majestic. I don't get out into nature enough. I must admit--it was a hike up to that general store, but... I found it invigorating. Ahh... after spending all of those years in a coma, I truly understand the rejuvenating power of nature. And, oh, to feel free for the first time in so long. Ahh. There's nothing like. Is there, ladies?
Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."
Philip: I hate thinking about chloe in jan's hands. I can't imagine how worried you are about claire.
Shawn: Like I said, belle's giving jan what she wants.
Philip: Do you think jan will hear about belle confessing to charlie's murder and just let chloe and claire go?
Shawn: I don't know. It's the best chance that we have right now. I keep trying to get a hold of jan to confirm, but she's not picking up.
Philip: [Scoffs] I can't believe we're pinning our hopes on being able to trust jan spears.
Shawn: We don't have any other choice.
Melinda: [Sighs] Enlighten me, mrs. Brady. What made you decide to admit what you did after all these weeks of swearing your innocence?
Belle: I did it for my family.
Melinda: [Inhales sharply] Well, isn't that noble?
Belle: Can we just get the confession on the record and move this process along, please?
Melinda: Sure. But you do know that the confession is just the beginning, right?
Belle: What are you talking about?
Melinda: Well, if you truly want to pay for your crime, then you're going to have to make it official.
Belle: Meaning what?
Melinda: Meaning you're gonna have to change your plea to guilty so I can put you behind bars where you belong.
Clyde: You're losing your mind? And you think I can help?
Ben: At first, I wasn't sure what the hell was happening, but it keeps getting worse.
Clyde: Well, I'm sorry to hear that, son, but isn't this a job for your shrink?
Ben: Normally it would be, but dr. Evans' granddaughter is missing right now.
Clyde: So, what, I'm plan b in operation: Mental health?
Ben: Dad... I just... need someone to talk to.
Clyde: All right, but... why do you think you're going crazy? It's not that vincent's, uh, brainwashing kicking in again, is it?
Ben: No, no, it has nothing to do with that. At least, I don't think he's the one that's making me see...
Clyde: See what?
Clyde: Y-your sister's ghost?
Ben: It's not her ghosts. Dad, it's, like... when she appears to me... she's really there.
Clyde: Like a hallucination?
Clyde: Does she talk to you?
Ben: [Sighs] She tells me that she's a representation of my guilty conscience.
Clyde: Oh, man, come on.
[Chuckles] You have atoned for all of your sins over and over again. You got nothing to feel guilty about anymore.
Ben: This has nothing to do with my past.
Clyde: Something new? What's that about?
Ben: I almost cheated on my wife.
Jan: I do have to apologize for the accommodations. Normally I would pick a retreat that's less...charred. But, mm, I couldn't pass up the significance of this place.
Chloe: And what significance is that?
Jan: Should I tell her, or would you like to? Fair enough. See, chloe, this cabin is where claire tried to set her aunt ciara on fire... twice.
Claire: Shut the hell up!
Jan: I am only answering her question. Claire made this cabin famous. I read all about it in the "intruder."
Claire: I have changed, okay? I am not that person anymore.
Jan: Sure, sure. We all change. We all grow.
Claire: Why did you bring me here?
Jan: To remind you that no matter how changed you claim to be, you're still no better than I am. Neither is your mother.
Chloe: What does belle have to do with this?
Jan: I was happy to see that... she held up her end of our agreement.
Claire: You mean...?
Jan: Yes. She confessed to charlie's murder.
Claire: Does that mean that we can go? If my mom is going to prison... then you're free to be with my father. You don't need me as a bargaining chip anymore.
Jan: It's true. You have served your purpose, but... there's only one problem.
Chloe: What's that?
Jan: I told you the whole story. You know the truth... that I'm the one who killed charlie. So now you have to die.
Marlena: Darling, you've been driving around for hours. No, no, brady is exhausted. He needs his rest. Yeah... I know. I'm worried sick about belle, too. They're doing everything they can to find claire. I just...I hope they're being smart about it. Yeah, okay. Look, honey, please, please, just go home. I'll see you soon. Yeah, I love you, too.
[Cell phone beeps] Mm...
Paulina: Marlena evans?
Paulina: Paulina price-- tamara price's little sister.
Marlena: Oh! Oh, my goodness! How are you? How wonderful to see you!
Paulina: [Laughing] Oh, back at you, honey. Oh...
Marlena: Now, abe said that you caused quite a stir in town, but somehow I thought you'd left.
Paulina: Oh, yeah, well, I went away to take care of a few things, but alert the media, 'cause paulina's back in town.
From prom dresses
Marlena: I still remember when you used to come and visit tamara.
Paulina: I remember that, too, back when you and my sister were rooming together in college.
Marlena: Exactly, exactly.
Paulina: [Chuckles] Yeah, back when I still had my retainer and I wore my hair in pigtails.
Marlena: Yeah, you--you were a picture.
Paulina: You--you were beautiful and confident. Oh, and I thought to myself, "when I get older, I want to be just like marlena."
Marlena: Oh. You've done fine for yourself.
Paulina: [Chuckles] I don't know if you remember this, but one time when I came to visit, we were walking down the street, and this--this guy, he made this rude comment, and, well, I just wanted to--to run away, but you, you walked right up to him, and you said, "only a small man would talk to a woman that way."
[Chuckles] Oh, you left that guy regretting the day he was born, and I said, "now, now, that's the kind of woman I want to be."
Marlena: That'S... that's sweet of you to say. I needed to hear that today.
Paulina: You having a tough time?
Marlena: Yeah, you might say that. My... my daughter's got herself in quite a fix.
Belle: You want me to change my plea to guilty.
Melinda: Can't see why you'd have a problem with that. You said you wanted to avoid a trial. You already admitted your guilt. Unless this is some kind of angle...
Belle: An angle?
Melinda: Maybe this confession isn't what it seems.
Belle: Why are you complicating things? Just enter the confession into the record and go out and give your big celebratory press conference.
Melinda: And then what? I make a big public deal about it and justin uses it against me? He agrees that the confession was coerced? He--he has it thrown out and then suddenly my case is in disarray?
Belle: Melinda, that's not what's happening here.
Melinda: Then prove it. Because unless we go to the courthouse right now and you enter a plea of guilty, then I'll have no choice but to reject this confession.
Shawn: I really hope that trask doesn't get suspicious about belle's sudden about-face.
Philip: Why not just tell her it's all a setup to free claire?
Shawn: 'Cause I don't think she's gonna go along with it.
Philip: Two people have been kidnapped.
Shawn: I don't want to risk it, okay? I mean, if jan has any, the slightest suspicion that belle's lying to her... look, I... I don't want to think about what could happen to claire.
Philip: Chloe, too. But why is she even there? What does jan want with her?
Claire: You just said that we were friends.
Jan: We are.
Claire: You said you wouldn't kill me, that you couldn'T.
Jan: You're right. I can'T. Chloe's just gonna have to do it for me.
Jan: You're here. Might as well make yourself useful.
Chloe: I'm here because I was locked in a trunk.
Jan: Oh, and I certainly wasn't thrilled to find you there. But this might work out in the end.
Chloe: Work out for whom?
Jan: Well, for me mostly, but now I can solve my problems and keep my hand clean... because I have ghoul girl to do my dirty work. To be a thriver
Paulina: Mm, your daughter finding herself in a mess, oh... now, that sounds familiar.
Marlena: Oh, no. You too?
Paulina: My little girl chanel. Ooh, she'S... shall we say she's just--she's struggling?
Marlena: You want to talk about it?
Paulina: Well, for starters, she married a man the first night they met, and the man has a rap sheet as long as my arm.
Marlena: Oh, that's a lot more than struggling.
Paulina: Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I suppose you could say that was an understatement, because... because especially to top it all off, she tried to extort money from her own mama to get out of the marriage.
Marlena: Oh, my gosh. How did you handle that?
Paulina: With a serving of tough love. I was hoping that she turned herself around since I've been gone. Um, and as for your daughter finding herself in a mess, I'm sure she'll find her way out of that, too. Hmm.
Marlena: I hope you're right.
Paulina: I am.
Marlena: The thing is, she, um... my granddaughter got involved, and... and she was kidnapped.
Paulina: Kid--kidnapped? Oh, my god! You must be so worried.
Marlena: I am. I only bring it up because I know you've had the same experience... when lani's babies were kidnapped.
Paulina: It was a terrifying ordeal
Marlena: I remember how frightened eli and lani were at the time.
Paulina: Well, then--just like I'm sure you know how overjoyed they were when those babies were returned to their loving arms, and that--that'll happen for you and your family, too.
Marlena: I hope you're right.
Paulina: I am, I am. I can feel it in my bones. Your granddaughter is going to be okay, and so is your daughter.
Belle: Listen, I know you want to expedite the process. I do, too.
Melinda: Good. We'll call justin and get it started.
Belle: But changing a plea requires a hearing.
Melinda: I'm aware.
Belle: We don't have a court date.
Melinda: We were scheduled to begin your trial today. It's very simple. We appear before the judge. Your attorney announces that you intend to change your plea, and I'm sure the judge will be more than happy to save the taxpayers' money and skip straight to your conviction.
Belle: Okay, listen, I'm gonna have to talk to my attorney about this.
Melinda: I've already let him know that we're on the way to the courthouse. Are you having second thoughts? You will change your plea, won't you?
[Door opens, closes]
Clyde: Wait a minute. Ciara really sent you divorce papers?
Ben: All the way from south africa. One of the worst days of my life.
Clyde: So what'd you do when you got them?
Ben: Dad, I was so upset, I didn't know what the hell to do. I went to go see belle brady to see if maybe she could help me, but she wasn't there. Claire was there instead. And, uh... I was just so freaked out that...
Clyde: What? Something happened between you?
Ben: It's not important.
Clyde: Kind of think it is. What'd you do? Did you kiss her?
Ben: She kissed me. And then I put a stop to it.
Clyde: That's it? What the hell are you freaking out about?
Clyde: You put a stop to it. Nothing happened. Why are you beating yourself up?
Ben: Because jordan keeps putting it on me for cheating on ciara. She keeps making me feel like I'm this terrible person.
Clyde: [Sighs] Jordan, your conscience?
Ben: Yes, I guess.
Clyde: Ollie, come on.
Ben: Dad, claire called me, and jordan kept goading me to pick up the phone and--
Clyde: Did you?
Ben: I felt so guilty. I didn't know if I was leading her on or sending her mixed signals, so, no, I didn't pick up the phone, but now I know why claire was calling. Because she needed help.
Clyde: What kind of help?
Ben: She's been kidnapped, dad.
Clyde: Claire's the one that's missing.
Ben: Yes. That psycho jan spears has taken her, and jordan won't shut the hell up about how it's all my fault. And now another woman might die because of me.
Jan: Don't even think about doing anything stupid, okay?
Chloe: I wouldn't dream of it.
Jan: So... how do you want this to work? Should we take claire outside and you can kill her there?
Claire: Jan, you don't want to do this.
Jan: You're right. In here's better. Although it might spoil our appetites.
Chloe: I'm not killing anyone, okay? I don't care what you do to me.
Jan: You sure about that?
Chloe: I'm not shooting claire.
Claire: Chloe, it's okay. You have a son. Do whatever you have to do to get home to parker.
Claire: Jan is not giving you any choice. You have to take that gun.
Chloe: I'm sorry, claire.
Claire: I understand.
Chloe: [Sighs] Okay. I'll do it.
Jan: Mm. Look at you, all compliant. I am really sorry about this, claire. I like you. In another life, we could've been friends. Just bad luck, I guess.
Claire: Can we just get this over with?
Chloe: The sooner, the better.
My name is monique, I'm 41,
Paulina: One thing about me, I'm a straight shooter. But I know the power of belief, and you have to believe that your granddaughter is coming home safe and that your daughter's gonna be okay.
Marlena: You're talking about faith.
Paulina: It's served me well over the years. Whenever something has seemed impossible, I have just willed myself to believe it would happen.
Marlena: And more often than not, it does.
Paulina: Mm, my reputation precedes me.
Marlena: Yes. It does. Abe said, um... well, you've got some very big ideas.
Paulina: [Chuckles] I'm trying. Like the square... I have big plans for it.
Marlena: What kind of plans?
Paulina: Oh, you didn't hear? I bought a few of these buildings, and I intend to buy some more.
Marlena: Oh. How many more?
Paulina: Well, I'm thinking all of them.
Marlena: All of them? I mean-- what do you mean, the whole square?
Paulina: I have this vision to interconnect all the storefronts, unify the space into one shared marketplace. And then I can offer reasonable rents to a wide array of small-business owners. Honey, when I'm finished, this area--it will be a dynamic and inclusive community, one that honors and represents the true diversity of salem.
Marlena: Well... that sounds ambitious... and amazing.
Clyde: Man, I hate to see you all tied up in knots like this.
Ben: [Sighs] Dad, if claire dies--
Clyde: Hey. Don't do that to yourself. You hear me? I ain't no shrink, but I do know that waiting around listening for your dead sister to tell you what to do is not a healthy thing. You need to take some action.
Ben: Take some action? Dad, I already told you, the cops don't want my help finding claire.
Clyde: No, no, not about claire, about your marriage.
Ben: And what am I supposed to do? She wants a divorce, dad. The only other option for me right now is to sign these damn divorce papers.
Clyde: Is that what you want?
Ben: Of course it's not what I want! But ciara keeps calling me. She's leaving me messages, and I don't call her back. I don't return her messages. I can't do it, dad. I can't let her go.
Clyde: Don't, don'T.
Ben: Then what am I supposed to do? The more I keep banging my head against the wall, the more I feel like I'm losing my mind.
Clyde: You want my advice? You want me to tell you what to do? Then get on a damn plane to south africa and go get your wife!
Shawn: How you doing?
Belle: I've been better.
Philip: Trask just told us you're still going to court.
Shawn: Yeah, I know the trial was supposed to start today, but it--
Belle: No, there's not gonna be a trial. I agreed to plead guilty to the murder.
Shawn: What? What, you're pleading guilty? What, today?
Belle: It was the only way to get trask to accept my confession. She thought that this was all some, I don't know, legal strategy.
Shawn: Okay, but that means, belle, that--
Belle: It's the only way, shawn. This is the only way to convince jan that this is all real.
Shawn: They're gonna lock you up.
Belle: And then that'll make her believe that everything is-- is real, and she'll let claire go.
Philip: And hopefully chloe, too.
Shawn: No, no, no, no, no. There's got to be another way to do this. There has to.
Belle: There isn'T. There isn'T. Listen, once claire's free, we'll fix all of this, but right now we have to, you know, give jan what she wants. I need your support on this.
Philip: This is one hell of a hail mary, belle.
Belle: Our daughter's life is at stake. Has my confession gone public yet?
Shawn: Yeah. Yeah, it's all over the papers. It's all over social media.
Belle: Then why haven't we heard from jan?
Chloe: So are we doing this or not?
Jan: Yeah. Let'S.
Chloe: What's that?
Jan: Uh, it's a knife.
Chloe: I know what it is, but why are you handing it to me?
Jan: So you can do your job.
Chloe: You want me to kill her with that?
Jan: You didn't think I was gonna give you my gun, did you? I'm not gonna let you have a weapon to use against me. I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid.
Chloe: Okay, this--this is-- this is not right.
Jan: What's the matter? A knife is your weapon of choice, isn't it?
Chloe: What does that mean?
Jan: I heard all about what you did with the drug kingpin down in mexico. Very dramatic.
Chloe: You don't know what you're talking about.
Jan: It's not a criticism. I'm impressed. It sounds really badass. So... go ahead. I know you have it in you. Do what you did to him. Gut claire like a fish.
Feeling sluggish or weighed
Philip: Are you sure about this? What if it doesn't work?
Belle: You're with me on this, right, shawn?
Shawn: I'm always with you, belle.
Philip: But what if jan doesn't--
Shawn: We'll hear from her. All right, jan's unstable, to say the least, but we know what it is that really matters to her.
Belle: Yeah, getting me away from you.
Shawn: Yeah, and she knows that if she does anything to hurt claire... that I'll never forgive her.
Belle: Maybe she's just waiting for my--my confession to be official so that I'm on the record as charlie's murderer.
Melinda: Okay. We're all set. Justin is waiting at the courthouse. As soon as the judge accepts your plea, you'll be remanded into custody and transferred to statesville, pending sentencing. Are we ready?
Belle: Let's do this.
Jan: What are you waiting for? Kill her already!
[Breathes deeply] No, please, don't, chloe. Please, don't kill me.
Claire: You don't have to--
Chloe: No, I can't do this.
Jan: [Sighs] I take it back. You are useless!
Claire: [Sniffles] So what are you gonna do now?
Jan: I'm in quite the pickle. I can't kill you.
[Sighs] And if you won't help me out... what good are you to me?
Claire: Well, if chloe is of no use to you and she wasn't even meant to be here in the first place, then why not just let her go?
Ben: As much as I want to get on a damn plane and bring ciara home, I can'T.
Clyde: Why not?
Ben: She's with theo carver. She doesn't want to be with me right now.
Clyde: That's it? You're just gonna give up? You're not gonna fight for her?
Ben: Dad, I've been... I've been fighting.
Clyde: Have you really?
Clyde: Well, just you think about what she did when you were locked up in here. She stormed in here, saved your life at gunpoint. She risked everything she had for you. That's what I call love.
Ben: She doesn't remember that anymore. She doesn't remember loving me. So, as much as I hate it... I think the best thing to do right now is just give her the space and let her decide what she wants.
Clyde: And if she decides it's over with you forever?
Ben: Then I'll have to accept that.
Clyde: Ah, man. The hell with accepting that. Listen, how many times have you been sure that it's over between you and ciara, huh? Not to mention when the whole world thought that girl was dead. You know me--I was not a believer at first, but I am now. What you two got... that's fate.
Ben: That's fate.
Clyde: Yeah. From the very beginning, right?
Ben: Yeah. Yeah, I mean, if... is she hadn't crashed her bike and... if I hadn't found her on the side of the road and taken her to the cabin... my god, it's been almost four years ago to this day.
Clyde: Four years is a long time.
[Scoffs] Every day I walk past that bike in the garage, I... can't get it out of my mind.
Clyde: That's the problem, you see? That's why you're hearing all these voices. You're surrounding yourself with these memories from the past. You just got to get out of town.
Ben: Dad, I already told you--I'm not going to south africa.
Clyde: No, forget south africa. You just go...somewhere. Get on that bike and ride. See where the road takes you.
Ben: Just... just ride.
Clyde: Yeah! When you're flying down that road, man, it's all gonna leave you. You're not gonna hear those voices anymore. You're gonna get clear. You just got to ride and forget the pain. Cell phone repair.
Ben: Maybe I do need to get out of town.
Clyde: Hey... as someone who would give his right eyeball to be out on the open road, I...
[Chuckles] I guarantee you... it's gonna make you feel better.
Ben: You know something, dad? Actually, I already do.
Clyde: No kidding. So your old man actually gave you some good advice.
Clyde: Maybe I should use the rest of my time in here to get a degree as a therapist, huh?
Ben: Yeah, let's, uh--let's not get carried away. But thank you, thank you, seriously, for, um--for listening.
Clyde: I haven't always been the greatest father to you, but I am the only one you got.
Clyde: [Sighs] Take care of yourself.
Ben: You too, dad.
Marlena: Wow. You certainly do think big.
Paulina: It's kind of my brand.
[Chuckles] But I never could've made this happen without abe carver's support and encouragement. Oh, the man stepped up to help make my dream a reality.
Marlena: Abe has always been dedicated to what is best for this town and its community.
Paulina: So... do you approve of my vision?
Marlena: I think it's--it's great. Whatever improves the community. And I think that tom and alice would approve. They'd be proud.
Paulina: [Chuckles] I'm sure they would be. Who are they, again?
Marlena: Tom and alice horton. Oh, they're the people after whom this square is named.
Paulina: Mm, right, right, of course, of course. Um, why?
Marlena: Oh. Well, they were the most respected people in all of salem. They were... they were kind. They were generous. They had hearts bigger than the entire community. They had an amazing family and... left us a living legacy. In fact, eli is their great-great-grandson.
Paulina: That means the twins are their great-great-great-grandchildren.
Marlena: [Laughs] Yes, exactly.
Paulina: So this square is jules and carver's legacy.
Marlena: Why, yes, it is. And I know tom and alice would be so proud to know that this square... lives on past them.
Paulina: Mm. Sounds like I got a lot to live up to. Well... I will do my best to honor them.
Jan: You're right, claire. I could just let chloe go. She was never supposed to be here in the first place. And I currently don't have any big beef with her.
Chloe: [Warily] Thank you.
Jan: And since you won't help me kill claire so that no one knows it was really me who killed charlie dale, you're mostly just in the way.
Chloe: Please, I just-- I just want to go home and see my son. That's it.
Jan: I'm sure you do. Except there's only one problem. You know that I killed charlie, and I don't trust you not to sing like the little songbird that you are, which means I have two birds I have to get rid of. Looks like I'm going to have to find a stone... a big one.
