Melinda: [Sighs]

Jan: Just the person I wanted to see.

Melinda: What are you doing here?

Jan: As a tax-paying citizen who's done her civic duty to help bring a killer to justice, I'm very concerned that you haven't done yours.

Melinda: What is that supposed to mean?

Jan: You have belle brady dead to rights for the murder of charlie dale because of me, thank you very much. So why the hell is she still running loose all over salem?

Belle: Whoa. Listen to this. "Kristen dimera threatens: 'I'll trade chloe lane's life for my freedom.' Is this an offer the D.A. Can't refuse?" Poor chloe.

Shawn: Well, I'm confident the salem pd's gonna find her.

Belle: I hope so.

Shawn: What's the matter? You're not really eating.

Belle: It's hard to work up an appetite when you're facing murder charges.

Shawn: Hey. Look, we have to believe, all right? That justin's gonna talk judge alton into throwing that recording out.

Belle: My dad telling my mom that he saw me shoot charlie is... pretty juicy stuff.

Shawn: It was obtained illegally. Plus--come on, your dad was mistaken.

Belle: Tell that to trask.

Shawn: Well, without the recording, trask doesn't have a case.

Claire: Come on in.

Ben: Hey, is your mom here?

Claire: My mom? No. Why? What's going on?

Ben: Because I just got this... from ciara.

Claire: She wrote you? That's great, right?

Ben: She's filing for divorce.

Jack: Please tell me this is not all shoes.

Gwen: You really should've let me help you.

Jack: [Sighs] You've been through enough. Please. [Sighs]

Gwen: I'm really fine... physically, anyway.

Jack: Well, now... you're home. So you can heal, and start to figure out what's next.

Gwen: Home. Well, that's something I feel like I haven't had in a very long time. Thank you.

Julie: What's all this?

Jack: Well, I was just helping gwen move her things. She's moving in.

Julie: Like hell she is!

[Dramatic music]

Chad: An induced coma? Did--did kayla say what the prognosis was?

Gabi: Just that she's hoping it'll give kate some time to heal.

Chad: Damn!

Gabi: What! Hello! Do you not remember that kate was shot, buried alive, and she clawed her way out of that grave? I don't think a meet-up with kristen is nearly enough to take her down.

Chad: I hope so.

Gabi: I know so. Listen, I've got somewhere to be. I've gotta go get some food for jake and meet him up at the hospital.

Abigail: No, you should stay. It'll give us a chance to say goodbye.

Gabi: Goodbye?

Abigail: I'm leaving salem.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

Chad: You're leaving?

Abigail: My bags are at the front door, and a car's picking me up. I'm just gonna go spend some time with my mom in boston.

Chad: Are-are you leaving because of us?

Gwen: No, she's leaving because of gwen.

Gwen: All right. Well, this was a bad idea. I'll just go load my things back into the car.

Jack: Wait, whoa, whoa, whoa. Just hold on a minute. This is jennifer's house. She and I talked, and we agreed that it would be okay for gwen to stay here.

Julie: How can it possibly be okay? Okay for this person to live under this roof after everything she has done to abigail?

Jack: Ah, julie, please. Gwen just lost her baby.

Julie: Oh! And now she's falsely accusing abigail of causing the miscarriage!

[Quiet somber music]

Jan: I hope you're not having any unreasonable doubt about belle's guilt.

Melinda: None whatsoever. But everyone is entitled to bail.

Jan: She's a murderer!

Melinda: And you're a felon who would be behind bars right now if you hadn't made that ridiculous deal with belle.

Jan: Where's the respect? The only evidence you had against belle was a button. And I gave you gold. A recording of john black admitting that he saw his precious baby girl shoot charlie dale in cold blood.

Melinda: Yeah, well, that recording might not even be allowed into evidence. I'm still waiting on the judge to rule.

[Phone rings] And that's the judge now.

[Suspenseful music]

Belle: Thank you, justin. Bad news. The judge is going to allow the recording.

Shawn: Wait, on what grounds?

Belle: He ruled that my parents don't have a doctor-patient relationship, so confidentiality doesn't apply.

Shawn: But hold on. Your mom-your mom is treating john as a patient. That's why she was recording it. I mean, we've got to fight this ruling.

Belle: Justin doesn't think that that's an option, and honestly, I don't either.

[Crying] My murder trial starts next week, and I basically don't have a defense.

Shawn: You're innocent.

Belle: Yeah, well, that's not enough for the D.A. When she has my coat button at the crime scene and a recording of my father saying he saw me shoot charlie.

Shawn: I know, but we know the truth, right? That jan-jan did it somehow, and then she framed you. I mean, the proof-the proof is the surveillance footage from the hospital, where jan's out walking around when everyone thinks that she's in a coma.

Belle: I know. But like you said, that doesn't prove that jan shot charlie.

Shawn: I know. [Sighs] So we get jan to confess. It's my 5:52 woke-up-like-this migraine medicine.

Belle: Why didn't I think of that? Yeah, I'll just go, call jan, and ask her to go to trask and admit that she killed charlie and framed me, and then, problem solved.

Shawn: Okay, listen. I know this sounds crazy. I know it does.

Belle: Yeah. Crazy. That's a word that seems to come up all the time when jan is concerned.

Shawn: Okay, here's the thing that we know. All right. Jan told claire, right, that she can't wait for you to go to prison so that she can be the next mrs. Shawn brady. So maybe, maybe if we give her what she wants, she'll give us what we want.

Jan: Yes! I knew it! Of course the recording will be allowed. Now belle brady will finally get what she deserves. And I will finally get what I deserve.

Melinda: What exactly is it you "deserve," ms. Spears?

Jan: How are you the only person in salem who doesn't know that? Shawn, of course. We were meant to be together. And now, because of my incredible contribution to throwing belle in the slammer, I can finally have him.

Melinda: Good luck with that.

Jan: I don't need luck. We were meant to be. Is that belle's file?

Melinda: Why don't you let me do my job and you go do... whatever it is that you do?

Jan: Mm. And there is so much to do.

Melinda: Mm.

Jan: Just don't screw this up for me.

Melinda: [Sighs]

Julie: Isn't it enough that you did everything in your power to ruin abigail and chad's marriage? Now you have to accuse her of killing your baby?

Jack: Julie, this is not helping anything. Gwen has been through a lot.

Julie: And she lies like a pro. Don't you? Don't you? How could you say such things about abigail? Such filthy, awful things! And jack, you--don't you see? She is slandering abigail and making her life a misery! Jack, how can you possibly take gwen's side?

Abigail: I just need to get away for a little while.

Gabi: Are you for real? Are you seriously letting your bitch of a sister run you out of town?

Abigail: Gwen is lying about what happened. I am not the reason she lost her baby. I did not push her down the stairs.

Gabi: But you are letting her push you out of your own life, away from everybody that you care about.

Abigail: I just need to get away for a little while.

Gabi: No, the hell with that, abigail! You need to stay and fight!

Claire: A divorce? I am so sorry. What are you going to do?

Ben: I don't know what I'm gonna do, claire. I guess I was hoping maybe your mom could talk me through some options?

Claire: Look, I know that she'd really love to help you, but it's-it's not the greatest time.

Ben: Oh, my god. I don't-I don't even know what the hell I was thinking. Her trial. Does that start soon?

Claire: Yeah. Yeah, it's next week. So she's really focused on her defense. I mean, she's innocent, but the evidence against her is--it's pretty scary.

Ben: I am so sorry. Is there anything I can do to help?

Claire: Find the real killer?

[Sighs]

Ben: Trust me. I wish I could. I would do anything for you and your family, ciara's family. Anyway, I-I'm sorry I bothered you with all this. I'm going to definitely find another lawyer.

Claire: Hey, ben, wait. Look, I may not know my way around all that legal mumbo-jumbo, but--I'm a pretty good listener.

Ben: Your mom needs you.

Claire: My mom is innocent. I have to believe in the system. And you need me, too. So please, let me help.

Certain hpv-related cancers?

Ben: I haven't talked to ciara since she flew to johannesburg with theo. I kept telling myself to give her time and that she would remember, but divorce papers? Really? I mean, she's halfway across the world. Can she even do that? Can she file for a divorce from me when I'm here and she's all the way over there?

Claire: I don't know. I don't know, but maybe you could delay the process? Well, look, I think that if ciara really does want this divorce, I don't know if there's much you can do to stop it.

[Melancholy music]

Belle: I see where you're going with this.

Shawn: And you think that it's brilliant.

Belle: I think it's ridiculous.

Shawn: Okay, all right, just hear me out a second here, all right? I-I'm gonna convince jan that-that I believe beyond a shadow of a doubt that you killed charlie. And then, you know, and that I'm horrified. I'm horrified and then-and then I realize how-how selfish that you are. I don't know, by putting our family, our family and our happiness at risk by taking the law into your own hands.

Belle: Right, and you think jan's gonna believe you?

Shawn: Yes, I do. Because it's exactly what she wants to believe.

Belle: [Scoffs] And then what?

Shawn: But, and then-and then I'm going to let her hold my hand through the heartbreak. And then I'm going to get her close. And I'm going to get her to admit what she did. Come on, you know jan. She loves to brag about how smart she thinks she is.

Belle: I also know that she's very dangerous. So forget it! I am not going to let you "seduce" jan, even if it means I go down for murder one!

Jan: What's this? A lovers' quarrel?

Abigail: You know, I tried fighting; you were there. And you were the one who ran.

Gabi: Was that when you tried to inject gwen with rolf's drug? So stupid. And I'm pretty sure there's a middle ground somewhere between stabbing someone with a hypodermic and giving up.

Abigail: I'm not giving up.

Gabi: Well, your bags at the door says you are!

Chad: Gabi, would you mind?

Gabi: All right, you know what? Yes, you're right. I know better than to get between the two of you, but just, abigail, know this. If you do decide to go, I think that it's the worst idea possible, but if you do go, I will keep an eye on your sister.

Abigail: Thank you. And thank you for stopping me when I had the syringe in my hand. It probably wasn't A... a wise move.

Gabi: Yeah, not wise. Look, if I hear anything about kate, I'll let you know.

Chad: I appreciate it.

[Soft music]

You weren't gonna talk to me before you decided to pack your bags?

Abigail: I'd made up my mind.

Chad: How do I change it? I don't want you to go.

Jack: Julie... I am not taking anyone's side. I know you love abigail, and I appreciate that you are in her corner.

Julie: Well, somebody should be.

Jack: Gwen is my daughter, too. And she's suffered a terrible trauma.

Julie: Mm-hm. Right. She got pregnant... by her sister's husband because she tricked chad into crawling into bed with her, and they were so swept away by passion, nobody used any protection! I'm sorry. I'm sorry, jack. I cannot be heartbroken over gwen's "trauma." And speaking of trauma, you know what really traumatizes me is the fact that every man in this family is ready to believe that woman's lies. Every single filthy lie she spews out of her mouth! Gah!

[Dramatic synth music]

Jack: I'm sorry.

Gwen: No. Julie's right.

Jack: About what?

Snyder: It's clear your father doesn't know you lost the baby before you fell.

Gwen: I, um-- I didn't really get a chance to tell anyone.

Synder: Ms. Rizczech, I could see that you were deeply disappointed when I told you the baby didn't have a heartbeat. Would you like me to be the one to tell your father?

Gwen: I don't want you to tell my father... or anyone else.

[Dramatic music]

The day I lost the baby, I...

Jack: What? What is it, gwen? Whatever it is, you can tell me.

Gwen: I lied about what happened.

Julie: What are you doing here?

Gabi: I keep asking myself that same question.

Julie: Then feel free to leave.

Gwen: If only I could. But, jake loves your scones, so here I am.

Julie: Well, I would prefer it if jake picked up his own takeout instead of sending you.

Gabi: You're in an especially nasty mood today.

Julie: I had an especially nasty surprise today, gabi. Jack is moving his daughter gwen into our house! His little british bastard, who has done such terrible things to abigail, to the entire family, just because, at this late date, he seems to want to play father, wants to give her a home. I really don't know what's the matter with the man!

Gabi: He's obviously driven by guilt. But I wonder if he's gonna still feel so fatherly after he finds out that gwen's run his other daughter out of town.

Jack: You lied about what, gwen? Talk to me.

[Soft dramatic music]

Gwen: Well... when dr. Snyder said that I had lost the baby, I was so upset. I was furious with abigail. She said some really nasty things to me before I fell. She said I'd be a horrible mother, and that my child would grow up to hate me. So I wanted to hurt her as much as she had hurt me. So... I said that she pushed me down the stairs on purpose.

Jack: But she didn't?

Gwen: No, she didn'T.

Jack: [Sighs] What really happened?

Gwen: After we argued, abigail chased me down the hall. And then she grabbed my wrist at the top of the stairs, and then I pulled away. And-and then I fell. She didn't push me. It was an accident.

Shawn: Look, this is a private conversation.

Belle: Why hide it? I mean, it won't be long before the entire town knows that my husband thinks I'm a cold-blooded murderer!

Shawn: Listen, your own father witnessed you pull the trigger!

Belle: It wasn't me!

Shawn: Right, well he recognized your coat, and a button from that coat was found at the scene of the crime!

Belle: Someone else was wearing my coat, shawn! I was framed!

Shawn: Okay, well, who would frame you, belle? Who would do something like that? Huh?

Ben: No, no, no. Maybe if I talk to her, I can get through to her and just let her know how crazy all of this is!

Claire: You might want to calm down before you make that call. Ben, if you get on the phone and start going off at her about this divorce, you are only gonna make things worse.

Ben: I'm not calling ciara. I'm booking the next flight to johannesburg so I can see her face to face, and look her in the eyes and tell her how big of a mistake this is, and let her know that there's no way in hell we are getting a divorce!

Claire: Stop. I am not gonna let you do that. You'd never want leftover onion residue

Ben: Give me the phone, claire.

Claire: Not until you take a breath.

Ben: How do you expect me to take a breath when ciara doesn't even remember how much we love each other and she thinks I'm some out-of-control psycho?

Claire: You fly all the way across to south africa and show up on her doorstep, you're just going to prove her point. Ben, we can't force this. If you do, you are just going to push ciara further away.

Ben: Well, it's a chance I'm willing to take if it means bringing ciara back home with me, where she belongs.

Gwen: I lied to you and to everyone else, and for that, I really am sorry. Abigail was right, in the end.

Jack: What do you mean?

Gwen: As a mother, it was my responsibility to protect that child that I was carrying. And I didn'T. I didn't protect her.

Jack: Gwen--

Gwen: No. Julie's right, too. I should leave. I'll find somewhere else to live.

Jack: No, you won'T.

Chad: I know I have given you so many reasons to walk away from this marriage.

[Somber music]

I know how much me doubting you... hurt. I'm so sorry.

You know, I believe you. I believe that you had... I believe that you didn't mean for gwen to fall and lose her child.

Abigail: Thank you for telling me that. But I just--I don't know if I believe me.

Julie: Abigail would really leave salem over this?

Gabi: Not if chad can talk her out of it, but her bags were packed, so I think she's pretty much made up her mind.

Julie: So gwen wins and tears apart that lovely family of chad and abigail and-- what a hateful woman!

Gabi: Finally, something we can agree on.

Julie: Oh, really? Since when do you hate somebody who has made abigail's life miserable?

Gabi: Gwen has made my life miserable, too, you know. When she spiked abigail's champagne and sent her over the edge, everybody blamed me. In fact, you were harder on me than most people. - I had many reasons to be harder on you. You are lucky I let you walk into this restaurant!

Gabi: Okay. Yes, fine. You were nice to me because I have done horrible things to you and I admit it. But can you please just admit it? That-that-that you were wrong when you blamed me for-for drugging abigail's champagne?

Julie: Fine! I was wrong! You have done multiple, numerous, appalling, and criminal things, but that one you didn't do.

Gabi: Oh, my god! I--everybody, please stop! Call "the spectator" because julie williams has admitted that she is wrong!

Julie: I'm not wrong about gwen rizczech.

Gabi: No, you're not. You are dead right about that. This is kind of weird. We both don't like gwen. We agree that she's ruining abigail's life. It's kind of like we're on the same side. No, it's almost like--

Julie: Our cold war is over?

Gabi: Not a chance.

Julie: Never.

Belle: It is very obvious who would frame me.

Shawn: Ah, no. Do not go there. All right, we all know that jan was in a coma when charlie was murdered. Right, you had means, motive and opportunity, belle.

Shawn: I am not some perp, shawn. I am your wife!

Shawn: Yeah, who murdered a man!

Belle: Okay, you know what? I did not kill charlie dale. And maybe, if you were a better detective, and a better husband, you would know that!

Shawn: Well, it's not like you haven't lied to me before! Like when you cheated on me with philip? Hmm?

[Dramatic music]

Trelegy for copd.

Melinda: Mrs. Brady. Enjoying your last days of freedom?

[Tense music]

Jan: Let me help.

Shawn: Thanks.

Jan: I'm sorry belle was so vicious to you. You were only speaking the truth. I'm just glad that your eyes are finally open to who she really is.

Shawn: It's like I don't even know her anymore. She's an attorney. I'm a cop. We both-we both took an oath. I mean, I hated charlie, too. My god, he-- look, he raped our niece, and he attacked our daughter. But I mean, you don't-- you don't take the law into your own hands. I mean, you don't--and you don't murder anybody. Why, belle?

Claire: Ben, I get how much you want to go to south africa and bring ciara home to us, to have everything back the way it was. But ambushing her is not the way. You need to trust that she's going to remember, that, one day, you're going to open your door, and she's going to be standing right there. And she's gonna run into your arms.

Ben: What if that doesn't happen?

[Somber music]

I'm sorry I bothered you.

Claire: Hey, uh... wait, um... here. Ben, I'm so sorry.

Ben: Don't be sorry. Do not be sorry, because you were right. Johannesburg was a bad idea.

Claire: No, it's not that. It's just, these days, these weeks--just watching your heart break.

[Cries] I just--I hate seeing you in this much pain.

Ben: It's my own fault. I let myself believe that ciara would remember and that she was gonna come back to me. But this... this proves that she doesn't want to remember. And she wants me out of her life for good... forever. "Forever" to ciara and me always meant together forever. But now it just feels like I may never see her again.

[Crying]

Jack: We have been through all this. You are not going anywhere. You're my daughter, gwen.

[Sighs] We are a family. Now, what's important to me is that you've owned your mistakes and you've told me the truth. And I believe that when you feel more secure in my love, when you can finally have faith in yourself, you and abigail will be able to work everything out. It may take a while, but I believe it'll happen. And I believe you will find your way. And you will finally find joy in your life. Real joy. You deserve that.

[Sighs] You are not alone anymore. You never forget that. Now, let's finish moving you in.

Gwen: Okay.

Jack: Okay.

[Phone beeps]

Gwen: Oh, all right. Oh, it's dr. Snyder. I forgot I have a follow-up appointment with him.

Jack: I-I'll go with you.

Gwen: No. You have been so good to me already. It's fine. I'll go. I won't be long.

Jack: Oh, well, um, I'll move your things upstairs, and you can get settled in when you get back.

[Grunts]

(Vo) do you push through migraine?

Jack: Oh, back so soon.

Julie: I just heard some news I thought might interest you.

Jack: The latest gossip from the breakfast crowd at julie's place? I'll pass.

Julie: I think you're gonna want to hear this. As it turns out, the daughter that you are so intent on protecting, sheltering, has finally achieved the goal that she came here to do-- tear this family apart.

Jack: Julie--

Julie: Thanks to gwen, abigail is leaving salem!

Chad: What do you mean?

Abigail: I-I did not push gwen down the stairs. But ever since I found out that she was pregnant with your child... I could not help but want that baby gone. I mean, I bullied her into--tried to bully her into getting an abortion. And that day, I said terrible things to her. And I-I chased her. I grabbed her at the top of the stairs. And I-I told her that I wanted her and her baby to get the hell out of my life. And now... that baby... your baby... is gone.

Chad: Abby, it is understandable that you were angry about the pregnancy.

Abigail: I know that, I do. But all of my anger and my hatred toward gwen have--you know, resulted in an innocent child losing its life. And I don't know how I don't blame myself for that. I mean, how do you not blame me for that? And I-I see it. I can tell when you look at me. I'm a stranger. I see the same thing when I look in the mirror. I have no idea who I am anymore. And I have let gwen turn me into someone I do not want to be.

Snyder: Ms. Rizczech.

Gwen: Dr. Snyder.

Snyder: I've been looking over your medical records, just reviewing the two visits you had on the same day.

Gwen: Why would you do that?

Snyder: When I examined you after your fall, you had not yet told your family about your miscarriage. You told me that you wanted to share the news with them in your own way. You didn't mention that you were gonna blame your sister for losing the baby.

Gwen: Excuse me?

Snyder: Front page of "the intruder," in black and white. You claimed that your sister pushed you, and the fall caused you to miscarry. But you and I both know you lost the baby before the fall. And I'm not sure I am comfortable keeping quiet about it.

Melinda: I assume you heard the judge's ruling of your father's, um, eyewitness testimony?

Belle: I did. But when my father takes the stand in my defense, he will tell the truth. He made a mistake. And he is a very credible witness, so...

Melinda: Who happens to be your father. Imagine what I can do with that on cross-examination. John black perjuring himself on the stand to protect his daughter.

Belle: Melinda--

Melinda: Juries hate that kind of thing.

Belle: I did not kill charlie dale.

Melinda: The evidence says you did, and it's damning. So let's let a jury decide.

Jan: Shawn. You really do deserve so much better than belle. I mean, a woman who would cause you this kind of shame.

Shawn: Listen, thank you. Thank you for listening to me.

Jan: Yeah, and you're such a good man, to be so concerned for a killer who obviously has no problem lying to you, cheating on you. After how loyal you've been to her, it's uh, it's just so unfair.

Shawn: Yeah. Yeah, it is. And belle--she couldn't control herself, yet again. And after all these years of loving her, supporting her, and sacrificing for her, it's like, where does that leave me? It leaves me alone.

Jan: You're not alone, shawn. As long as I'm around, you'll never be alone.

Ben: How do I do this?

Claire: I know how hard this is, ben. But you need to let ciara go. At least just for a little while. We both do.
