Provided By Suzanne

Nicole: [Sighs] Hi. Hi.

Allie: Hi.

Nicole: Is henry sleeping?

Allie: Yes. I just got him down for his nap.

Nicole: So how are you doing?

Allie: Not so great.

Nicole: Honey, I know this is upsetting. But your mother is going to get a really great lawyer. And after what charlie did to you, I think the jury will understand.

Allie: I don't even think it should go to trial. I mean, my mom didn't do it.

Nicole: But she confessed.

Allie: To protect me. My mom didn't kill charlie.

Lucas: What the hell? What the hell are you thinking?

Sami: It's nice to see you too, lucas.

Lucas: Why in god's name would you confess?

Sami: What are you talking about? I had to. Do you know that the gun that killed charlie dale was your mother's?

Lucas: Yes. Yes, I know that.

Sami: Did you know that allie had stolen it once to use it to threaten tripp when she thought that he's the one who raped her?

Lucas: Yeah, I knew that too.

Sami: Okay, well, rafe thinks that allie remembered that it was actually charlie dale, and she knew he was gonna get away with what he had done to her. Rafe thought that she might have taken that gun again to go after him.

Lucas: She told me that. She did that. That's exactly what she did.

Sami: Then I did exactly the right thing. Look, rafe said that allie threatening tripp is a matter of public record. So if allie goes to trial, the da could call tripp and ava to the stand. Ava was there. She saw it.

Lucas: I know. Sami, wait a second.

Sami: And if a judge, a jury, if they heard-- the point is, I'm not letting allie go to prison, okay? Henry is gonna grow up with his mother.

Lucas: Allie didn't do it. She didn't kill charlie. She wanted to, but she couldn't go through with it. Damn it, sami, she's innocent.

Ava: Hey.

Rafe: Hey. Whoa. Smells amazing in here.

Ava: It's my puttanesca.

Rafe: I'm sorry, what?

Ava: My gravy. It's puttanesca.

Rafe: Gravy?

Ava: Yeah.

[Laughs] Tomato sauce. Come on.

Rafe: Ahh.

Ava: It's pappardelle puttanesca. It's my signature dish.

Rafe: Mmm.

Ava: Mmm? Mm-hmm.

Rafe: Mmm. Mmm.

Ava: Yes. Yes. It is named after the working girls of naples.

Rafe: Oh. Okay.

Ava: Mm-hmm.

Rafe: Well, that definitely beats a tuna sandwich at my desk, for sure, although it does seem like a lot of work for lunch.

Ava: Yeah, well, I'm trying to butter you up, which is why I asked you home for lunch.

Rafe: Really?

Ava: Yeah. I need to talk to you about something.

Rafe: Okay.

Ava: Charlie's murder.

[Laughter]

Chanel: So great hanging with you guys, but I gotta bounce.

Claire: Oh. What about the check?

Chanel: Could you just take care of it? I really have to run.

Claire: But you said it was your treat.

Chanel: When did I say that?

Tripp: Hey, it's okay. I'll cover it.

Claire: Uh, how? It's, like, $500. You don't have that kind of cash.

Chanel: If the gentleman wants to pay.

Claire: The gentleman shouldn't have to pay, because you said it was your treat, not to mention you kind of drank most of it. So how about you put your money where your mouth is? So how many times have you run this scam?

Chanel: What scam?

Claire: Oh, please. You totally planned this. Do you pick pockets too?

Chanel: No, but I could slap your face.

Tripp: Okay, guys, let's take it easy.

Claire: Chanel, like my bag? More like cheap knockoff.

Chanel: Say it again, bitch. I dare you.

Eli: Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. What's going on?

Claire: This con artist is trying to sick us with her tab.

Eli: Is that true?

Chanel: No, and how is it your business?

Claire: Because he's a cop.

Chanel: Officer. There's no need for you to get involved in this. It's just a little misunderstanding.

Claire: No, eli, it is not a misunderstanding. That check is for more than $500 worth of champagne. Chanel said she was buying, and now she's skipping out.

Eli: You know what happened?

Tripp: I don't know. Claire said that chanel was treating.

Chanel: But did you hear me offer?

Tripp: No.

Chanel: Because I didn'T.

Claire: She's lying.

Chanel: I don't have time for this nonsense; I'm out.

Eli: Hang on. We need to settle this.

Chanel: Get your hands off me!

Lani: Eli, what... chanel?

Eli: You know her?

Paulina: I certainly do. She's my daughter.

Eli: Your daughter?

Chanel: Hello, mother.

Male announcer: Like sands through the hourglass, so are the "days of our lives."

[Soft orchestration]

John: Abraham!

Abe: Hey, buddy. Hey, man. How's it going?

John: Well, it's going a lot better now that you're here. Why are you here? I thought your grandkids were being christened today.

Abe: Well, they were. The party's ended.

John: Nice. Congratulations. How'd it go?

Abe: It was a big, big success. I mean, once we straightened up the issue with who was going to be the godparent.

John: What does that mean?

Abe: Well, there was a bit of a mistake--it was embarrassing, actually--with lani's aunt paulina.

Eli: Your daughter?

Chanel: Hey, lani, want to ask your friend to move out of my way?

Lani: He's my husband.

Paulina: Well, could you explain why your husband was manhandling my daughter?

Eli: Claire and tripp said that she ordered really expensive champagne, three times, and then tried to skate out on the bill.

Claire: She clearly said she was gonna pay.

Chanel: Seems to me they're making a very big deal over nothing.

Tripp: $500 isn't nothing.

Lani: $500, chanel?

Tripp: 500 and change.

Claire: Look at the bill. Do you honestly think that me and tripp would order three bottles of champagne? She ordered them, and she said she was gonna pay for them.

Chanel: I don't recall saying any such thing.

Eli: Okay, you know, maybe we can handle this somewhere else besides the horton town square, in private. Pay the bill, and we can all go home and settle this.

Chanel: I'd be happy to. But I can'T.

Eli: Why?

Chanel: Because of her.

Allie: So my dad went to see her, and she said that she didn't do it.

Nicole: Right.

Allie: Okay, I know my mom's not known for her truth-telling, but she wouldn't lie about something like this. Not to my dad.

Nicole: Okay, then how does she explain the fingerprints and the gunshot residue?

Allie: She did fire the gun. But she found charlie already dead, and she shot him again.

Nicole: Oh, my god. That is so sami. Overkill, literally. Look, I get what charlie did to you, and I understand the impulse, but that is still a damn stupid thing to do.

Allie: No.

Nicole: Yes. Honey, how is she gonna prove that charlie was already dead, huh? That is a lot of risk for the pleasure of putting a bullet in him.

Allie: She didn't shoot him because she hated him so much. She did it to protect me.

Sami: You're saying that allie didn't shoot charlie dale? How do you know?

Lucas: Because she told me. I tracked her down as soon as I found out that it was my mom's gun that killed charlie.

Sami: Because you knew about the time that she took it before.

Lucas: Yeah, I knew about that time.

Sami: Okay. So then this is just some weird coincidence? No. I don't buy it. And of course I shouldn't buy it. It's your mother we're talking about here. She's lying. That gun wasn't stolen. She's just covering--

Lucas: She's not lying. She's not. Allie told me everything. She went in, she stole the gun, she went to charlie's apartment with the intent to kill him, but she couldn't go through with it.

Sami: So that's how the gun ended up in his apartment. Now, the question is, who did kill charlie dale?

Rafe: So you know that I can't talk to you about the investigation.

Ava: Yeah, no, I know. And I'm not prying. It's just that, you know, things have been so crazy since eli came and told us that charlie was dead.

Rafe: Yeah. Do you want to sit down?

Ava: No; you know, I gotta keep an eye on this, but...

Rafe: What?

Ava: Listen, you know, I should have told you about this earlier, but I just-- I didn't really know how.

Rafe: Told me about what?

Ava: So, I was in danger, right? Worried that charlie might hurt me again. And you were so great. You took me in. But now that he's dead, I'm not really in danger anymore, am I?

Rafe: No.

Ava: No. So you don't really need to protect me anymore. I mean, you've done so much and you've been so kind to me.

Rafe: Okay. Ava.

Ava: [Sighs] I have to make a confession.

John: [Laughs] Oh, that had to be pretty rough for lani, having to explain to paulina why they had chosen julie to be little jules' godmother.

Abe: Well, actually, lani didn't have the heart to disappoint paulina. So valerie ended up telling her. She took one for the team.

John: Oh, that's a fact.

[Both laugh] Well, I'm glad it all got straightened out.

Abe: Yeah. Yeah. Me too. You know, and in the end, paulina was very gracious about the whole thing. She made a grand gesture at the reception.

John: What do you mean, grand gesture?

Abe: She offered to pay for the twins' college education.

John: Whoa. That's pretty generous of her.

Abe: Yeah.

John: Yeah.

Abe: Yeah. I mean, she's made it clear that she's a wealthy woman, and she's not afraid to throw her money around.

Chanel: So there I was in miami, on my way home from brunch, when I saw the cutest pair of booties in the window of this adorable boutique. So what could I do? I had to go in.

Paulina: No, you didn't have to.

Chanel: Can you believe it? They only had one pair left in my size.

Claire: So you stole them?

Chanel: But when I went to pay, the saleslady told me my card had been canceled. So I tried another and another. But guess what. They'd all been canceled.

Claire: What a nightmare.

Chanel: Then she cut them up right there in front of me. She enjoyed doing it. It was humiliating.

Claire: I wish I could have been there.

Chanel: So I hightailed it over to star island, but when I got there, your housekeeper told me you had left on a trip to see two babies in some town I never heard of.

Claire: And she prides herself on her geography.

Chanel: And I couldn't even buy a plane ticket. I had to spend two days driving up to this frozen wasteland.

Paulina: Okay, okay, little miss match girl. Just, you know, move it along. Move it along.

Chanel: Fine. So when I got here, I went to your room, but you weren't there, so I've been waiting for you out here.

Claire: Ordering champagne when you knew your credit cards were canceled.

Chanel: I was depending on the kindness of strangers.

Paulina: [Chuckles] Where's the bill?

Claire: Right here.

Paulina: Oh. Okay. I'll take care of it, and I'm sorry for all this drama.

Claire: Thank you, paulina. And just for clarification, you were not depending on our kindness. You were working a con.

Chanel: Hey, all's well that ends well. So fun hanging with you.

Claire: Yeah? Well, treasure the memory, because it's never gonna happen again.

Sami: So when I heard that allie was talking to rafe, I knew I had to stop her from saying anything to him.

Lucas: Right, 'cause you thought she shot charlie. I understand.

Sami: Exactly. But rafe wasn't trying to railroad her. He was just trying to help. He was trying to get her to tell him the truth, but now she can. She can tell him the truth, and then we can all go home.

Lucas: Yeah, except for you confessed.

Sami: I only did it to protect allie.

Lucas: It's called perjury. So it's a problem.

Sami: Not really, though. I mean, rafe didn't believe me. He knew I was just trying to cover for her. He didn't take me seriously. Want. It's not a big deal.L: I was depending on the kindness of strangers.

Lucas: He made you spend the night in jail. Jail's terrible. I hate jail.

Sami: Yeah, well, I don't blame you; it sucks. But the bottom line is, he had to let me stay in jail. I mean, I had confessed to murder. What could he do? But now you can go find rafe, and I can un-confess, and then he can go find whoever really did kill charlie dale.

Rafe: You need to confess?

Ava: Rafe... I need to stay here a little longer.

Rafe: Really?

Ava: Yeah. I mean--and I don't mean to impose. Normally, I wouldn'T. It's just that I... I don't have anywhere to go.

Rafe: Oh. But you have a place.

Ava: That I can't afford anymore.

Rafe: Ah.

Ava: See, the money that i used to pay for that apartment, it wasn't-- how do I say this? Entirely legit.

Rafe: Mm-hmm.

Ava: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

Rafe: Mob money.

Ava: Yeah.

Rafe: Yeah.

Ava: Mm-hmm. And lots of it. Oh. And most of it tax-free. But I've put all of that, that life behind me, and all that lovely money too.

Rafe: Yeah.

Ava: But hey, now I'm squeaky-clean and broke.

Rafe: Yeah. Well, sadly, the two often go hand in hand.

Ava: Yeah, so it's unfortunate, but I promise I will get a job. I promise I will get a job, and I will start looking for one this afternoon, actually.

Rafe: How many times have I told you this?

Ava: And then as soon as I'm on my feet--

Rafe: I told you, no pressure. Okay? And I mean it. You stay here--you can stay here as long as you like.

Ava: Are you sure?

Rafe: I am sure.

Ava: I mean, really, I just-- I don't wanna put you out.

Rafe: No. You're not. I mean, gabi just moved out. There's plenty of room. And honestly, it's great having someone here who can cook--you know, that can cook...what?

Ava: [Laughs] Puttanesca?

Rafe: Yes. Puttanesca.

Ava: Yeah?

Rafe: Yeah. So yeah, just stay as long as you want. It's not a big deal. Love puttanesca.

Ava: Right.

Rafe: Yeah, it's--what?

[Both laugh]

Ava: You're a really great guy, do you know that? You really, really, really are. 'Cause I have not--

Rafe: Okay.

Ava: No, I just wanna tell you, I have not met that many good guys in my life, and you are one.

Rafe: Thank you.

Ava: And I just want you to know that--how you've made me feel welcome, and...

Rafe: That's great. Do you know what I like? I like the cooking, talking about the cooking, and the-- you know, the other stuff.

Ava: But feelings, not--

Rafe: Not so much.

Ava: No, not so much? Okay.

Rafe: Yeah.

Ava: I get it. It's understood.

Rafe: Okay.

Ava: So why don't you sit, and we'll eat. Come on. Mangia. Mangia.

[Phone ringing] Oh, okay.

Rafe: I'm sorry.

Ava: That's all right.

Rafe: I do have to take this. Sorry. Yeah. Hey, lucas. What's up? Right now? Yeah, what-- okay. All right. I'll be right there.

[Sighs] I'm sorry. I need to go back down to the station. So the puttanesca, can we have it for dinner?

Ava: Yeah, of course. But what about your lunch?

Rafe: That's all right. I'll grab something.

Ava: You sure?

Rafe: Yeah. Sorry.

Ava: Thanks, rafe.

Rafe: Yeah.

Ava: [Chuckles]

Allie: So my mom confessed because she thought I had killed charlie, and since I thought it was her, I didn't tell the cops the truth.

Nicole: What a mess.

Allie: Yeah. My dad's down at the station trying to straighten it all out.

Nicole: And in the meantime, the killer's still out there.

Ava: Charlie made a serious threat.

Nicole: Okay, but we need to let the police handle it.

Ava: No. No, I'm sorry, but I'm gonna handle it.

Nicole: Oh, god, what does that mean?

Ava: I brought charlie into this world. Maybe I need to take him out.

Nicole: You know what? I just remembered, I have something I have to do.

Allie: What's that?

Nicole: Just an errand. I'll see you later.

Allie: What was that all about?

Eli: All right. The restaurant just needs you to sign here.

Paulina: [Sighs]

Lani: Well, now that that drama is all out of the way, I guess I should properly introduce you two. Chanel, this is my husband, eli grant. Eli, this is my cousin, chanel dupree.

Chanel: You know, I always say, if you've got to be manhandled, it helps if he's hunky.

Lani: Okay, chanel. It's been a really long time since I've seen you.

Chanel: Well...

Lani: Almost didn't recognize you.

Chanel: I've been busy. Looks like you've been busy too. Are these the babies my mother was coming to see?

Lani: [Laughs] Jules and carver.

Chanel: Adorable. That's hardly a surprise, given how good-looking their daddy is.

Lani: [Scoffs] Excuse you?

Allie: Hey, guys.

Claire: Hey.

Allie: How's ciara?

Claire: Oh, that is a long story.

Tripp: That is the truth.

Allie: Okay. Well, it must be good news, 'cause it seems like you guys have been partying.

Tripp: No. No. Well, not--I mean, not about ciara. We saw the "spectator" headline.

Claire: Allie, I am so sorry that I accused you of killing charlie. We saw that your mom confessed.

Rafe: Yeah, lucas said that you needed to see me. So are you ready to make a statement about the night of the murder?

Sami: Not really. Because I don't know what actually happened with the actual murder.

Rafe: You don't know what actually happened with the murder that you confessed to?

Sami: Right.

Rafe: Uh-uh.

Sami: It's okay. You can go ahead and take your "I told you so" moment. You deserve it. You were right. I was covering for allie, just like you thought.

Rafe: Did she do it?

Sami: No.

Lucas: No. No. No. Rafe, she didn't do it. I mean, she told me everything. She really did. She did go to my mom's place and take the gun, and then she did go to charlie's apartment, but--

Rafe: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Right. So doesn't that imply, at the very least, that she intended to threaten him with it?

Lucas: Look, man, you want the truth?

Rafe: Yeah, that'd be great.

Lucas: The truth is she went over there with the intent to kill him.

Sami: Okay, okay, right, but she couldn't go through with it.

Lucas: Yeah.

Sami: She couldn'T.

Rafe: Uh-huh.

Sami: But that is how the gun ended up in charlie dale's apartment. So that's how I found it there on the ground. And I decided to shoot him myself, so that my fingerprints would be on the gun, and the gunshot residue would be on my hands and on my clothes, so that you would arrest me. But now that I know that allie didn't do it, I don't have to cover for her, and she doesn't have to cover for me, because neither of us did it.

Rafe: Wow.

Ava: Please tell me you haven't eaten lunch.

Nicole: No.

Ava: Oh, great. I have enough to feed an army.

Nicole: Well, it smells wonderful. Thank you.

Ava: Yeah. Well, sit down. I'll make you a plate.

Nicole: So I assume you heard the news about sami.

Ava: Yeah, well, it was kind of hard to miss, right? It was on the front page of the "spectator."

Nicole: Well, it's not the first time she's been on there.

Ava: Yeah. Well, it's not really a surprise, is it? I mean, considering what charlie did to her daughter. I mean, look, I know I'm his mom, but I'm just saying, I understand why she did it.

Nicole: Well, I'm sure any mother in her position would have at least thought about it. Wow. This looks amazing.

Ava: [Laughs]

Nicole: Thanks. Gosh, what was I saying? Oh. Right. Guess what else I found out?

Ava: What's that?

Nicole: Sami didn't do it.

Ava: She confessed.

Nicole: To protect her daughter, who was also in the apartment that night.

Ava: Allie was there?

Nicole: She left right before sami. And then afterward, they both assumed the other one did it.

Ava: Wait, so that means that--

Nicole: The killer's still out there. And who knows? I mean, maybe they're at home in their kitchen, having lunch right now.

Ava: What exactly are you accusing me of?

Claire: Allie, I can't believe that I ever thought you would have killed charlie. I mean, I should have known that you'd never do something like that. Your mom, though-- I mean, she always took the law into her-- oh my god, I am so sorry. I shouldn't have said that.

Allie: No. It's okay. It's the truth.

Tripp: Does she have a good lawyer?

Allie: Well, aunt belle quit, so actually, I don't know. But it doesn't matter, because what I was about to say is that my mom didn't do it.

Tripp: What do you mean?

Claire: I know I've been drinking, but I thought that when someone confessed, it pretty much meant that they were guilty.

Allie: Okay, have a seat, and I'll tell you the whole story.

Sami: So charlie dale had taken kate's gun away from allie. So after allie left, but before I got there, someone else had to have shown up. And that someone must have gotten kate's gun away from him and shot him with it. So all you have to do is find that person.

Rafe: And allie said that charlie took the gun away from her?

Sami: Right.

Lucas: Well, not by force.

Sami: Yeah.

Lucas: I mean, you know, she went over there to take care of him--

Sami: Confront him.

Lucas: But she couldn't go through with it. She just kind of gave up. And that's when he started on her. He was taunting her. He was telling her he was gonna get away with it. And he took the gun from her, and she just wanted to get away from him, right?

Sami: Exactly.

Lucas: Yeah.

Rafe: So that's her story?

Sami: You saying you don't believe her?

Rafe: Well, it doesn't really matter what I believe, but I can tell you right now that the da is gonna have a problem with it, considering that none of this ever came up in any of her interviews.

Sami: Well...

Lucas: Well, allie was trying to protect sami then.

Sami: Right, she was just trying to protect me.

Lucas: Yeah.

Rafe: And sami was trying to protect allie. What a mix-up. Can you believe it? That's--that is just crazy. And so now you wanna withdraw your confession.

Sami: Well, you didn't believe me when I told you it in the first place.

Rafe: Like I said, it doesn't matter what I believe. Come on, sami. You have got to admit that to the da, judge, jury, this all--I mean, it seems a little concocted.

Sami: What?

Rafe: Yeah. That one of you did it, and then you've created this elaborate scheme, you know, just so you could get your story straight. And then you.

Lucas: What?

Rafe: You're the courier, you know, who was working in between the both of them.

Lucas: What are you talking about? It's the truth.

Rafe: Oh, it's the truth? Is it the truth?

Lucas: Yeah.

Rafe: I wish I had the truth. I wish you would have let allie finish her story. But now--

Sami: But now what?

Rafe: Now, I mean, this case, it's out of my hands.

John: So not only does aunt paulina offer to pay for the kids' college education, but--

Abe: Yes, and she would like to snap up the gabi chic lease in the square.

John: I see. So what does that mean, that she's gonna be sticking around for a while?

Abe: Well, could be.

John: Yeah.

Abe: I mean, she seems determined to want to put her stamp on salem. Her very unique and distinctive stamp.

John: I gotta meet this woman.

[Both laugh]

Abe: I--believe me, I'm sure you will. I'm sure you will. Because she's going to be quite a presence here in town.

Chanel: How often do you work out?

Paulina: Look, chanel, I'm getting you out of here before you make a complete fool out of yourself.

Eli: Oh, a little late for that, don't you think?

Paulina: Eli, lani, it was a beautiful christening.

Chanel: Sorry I missed it.

Lani: Thanks for coming, auntie.

Eli: And thank you for the wonderful gift.

Lani: Which was a lovely gesture, but far too generous.

Chanel: What's far too generous?

Lani: Oh, your mom--

Paulina: Well, if you must know, I offered to pay the twins' college education.

Chanel: What? You cut me off without a dime, but you're paying for those babies to go to college?

Paulina: Not now. Let's talk about this later, when you're sober.

Chanel: But I did hear that right, didn't I? You're paying for two college educations?

Lani: That's not settled yet.

Paulina: Not here, not now, chanel.

Chanel: For two kids you barely know.

Paulina: Well, they were just born. I'm getting to know them.

Chanel: And you're leaving me high and dry.

Paulina: No, I'm turning off that hot and cold running money that you've come to expect. Now, come on, now. Let's just go to my room.

Chanel: Do you know how humiliating it was to stand there in that store and watch the sales clerk tear up my credit cards, smirking at me?

Paulina: Okay. You want to talk about this? You want to talk about this now, right out here in town square? Okay, then, let's talk about it right here in town square. From the second that you born, you have had the best of everything. The best of schools, from pre-school to college, not to mention all-- what all the sports cost, the skiing vacations, and all the designer clothes, which you don't even bother to hang up.

Chanel: A maid does that.

Paulina: And you resent me for trying to help them a little? Well, let me tell you something about them. They work. They have jobs. And you know what else about them? When I offered to pay the twin's college education...

[Scoffs] Even though lani had doubts--

Chanel: Well, she should have her doubts. You can't just buy--

Paulina: I am talking! Even though lani, she had doubts, you know what they said when I offered? They said thank you. They said thank you. Chanel, now you need to learn to do that sometime.

Chanel: Mother! Mommy!

Lani: [Sighs] Well, that was fun.

Eli: [Scoffs]

Lani: [Sighs]

Sami: How can this be out of your hands? You're the police commissioner. You're in charge of the case, rafe.

Rafe: Well, at the very least, you've obstructed justice. But that'll be up to the da.

Sami: She's gonna get all law and order on me now, after she let charlie dale skate on rape charges?

Rafe: It was out of her jurisdiction, sami.

Sami: Okay, well, she has no trouble bending the law for her own daughter, does she? And by the way, she should recuse herself. She hates me. Melinda trask has had it out for me from the--

Lucas: Slow down. Slow down. He's trying to help us, okay? Let's just stay focused.

Sami: Right. Sorry. Sorry. I'm listening.

Rafe: Good. Because I need you to understand that this is a very serious situation. I cannot just cover up your charges. And saying, "oh, I had a really good reason to break the law at the time" is not a good defense.

Sami: Can I ask you a question?

Rafe: What?

Sami: Do you believe that I'm telling the truth?

Rafe: Yes. But that doesn't mean anything.

Sami: Yes, it does. It means something to me. And I'm sorry that I put you in the middle of this.

Rafe: You should have trusted me.

Sami: I should have trusted you. So now what?

Rafe: So now, I get to go to the da and ask her to withdraw your confession. And to drop the charges against you.

Sami: Rafe, thank you. Thank you.

Rafe: Sami, just shut up.

Sami: Thank you.

[Groans]

Nicole: I'm not accusing you of anything.

Ava: Well, it sure sounds like you are.

Nicole: It's just that i remember something from the night before charlie was killed. I went to the apartment to get some of your things, and I had it out with charlie.

Ava: Yeah. I remember. And you said that he made threats against tripp.

Nicole: And that upset you.

Ava: Yeah, of course it did.

Nicole: And I told you that the police would handle it. And do you remember what you said to me? You said you brought charlie into this world, and maybe you should be the one who should take him out.

Ava: Yeah. I remember. Wasn't my finest moment.

Nicole: Ava, I'm your friend. And you can tell me anything. Did you kill charlie?

Lani: They are both out like a light after their big day.

Eli: [Sighs] After that scene in the square, I'm tired my damn self.

Lani: [Laughs] You know, I thought aunt paulina had a flare for drama, but, ooh, chanel? That girl is something else.

Eli: Yeah, she definitely knows how to make a first impression. And you know I don't scare easily.

Lani: Baby, you don't scare at all.

Eli: Yeah, I tell you, I wouldn't want your aunt paulina as mad at me as she was her own kid.

Lani: Yeah, well considering what chanel did to claire and tripp, I'd say she has it coming.

Eli: Yeah. You know, I think a lot about raising our twins on cops' salaries, and of course we want to give our kids the best, but, whew, after watching that girl, there can be such a thing as too much money.

Lani: Well, I don't worry about money or anything else with our babies. Because I know that I have already given them the best. And that's you.

Eli: Well, I don't know about all that yet, but let's do our best to not screw them up.

Lani: Amen.

[Laughs] And now, seeing how aunt paulina is reacting to how chanel turned out--entitled, shallow, disrespectful...

Eli: [Laughs] I think she's gonna set her straight.

Lani: Yeah, she's definitely gonna try. I don't know, eli. But what if it's too late?

[Knock at door]

Paulina: It's open.

Chanel: I don't think you should have talked to me like that in public.

Paulina: I kept saying, "let's speak privately," but you just kept on going.

Chanel: I just thought that--

Paulina: 'Cause you don't listen. Ever. And I finally got that in my thick skull, that you don't listen at all, to anyone or anything. No words can penetrate that overweening self-absorption.

Chanel: You hate me.

Paulina: No. I love you. More than anything in the world. But I failed you. By giving you the world, I've ended up crippling you.

Chanel: No.

Paulina: Yes. That stunt with the champagne, with trying to stiff those two kids who you don't even know with some ridiculous, self-indulgent, conspicuous consumption, well, that's so low rent, I can't even believe it.

Chanel: I'm sorry.

Paulina: Oh, now. Now that you got caught. Now that you realize that you're not gonna get away with it.

[Sighs] I'm sorry. I'm sorry I let this go on too long. I'm sorry I wasn't a good mother. But this is gonna change. This whole dynamic, this is gonna change.

Chanel: Okay. Just give me a budget, and I'll stick to it.

Paulina: Oh yeah, you gonna be on a budget, all right. But it's gonna be up to you. You're going to have to figure out how you're going to spend your paycheck.

Chanel: You're putting me on a salary?

Paulina: No. You're getting a job.

Chanel: But I don't need one. We're rich.

Paulina: I'm rich. And you know how I got this way? By working. So you need to trot your little behind back on down to miami, get yourself a job.

Chanel: How am i supposed to do that? I don't even have enough money for gas. I'm sorry, but if I'm getting cut off, I'm staying right here.

Sami: So you wanna tell me off? Pick up where rafe left off?

Lucas: No. I'm a lot of things, but I'm not hypocritical. So I would have done the same thing you did, if I saw charlie's body laying there.

Sami: Well, actually, you did. You went to prison to protect will. We may have screwed up a lot, but no one can say we don't love our kids.

Lucas: That's right.

Sami: What happened?

Rafe: I tried. To quote trask, "I have her uncoerced confession. I'm not about to give that up."

Sami: Oh, my god. So I'm still facing murder charges?

Rafe: Yeah.

Sami: [Sighs]

Claire: Wait, so this whole time, your mom thought that you did it?

Allie: Mm-hmm, and I thought that it was her.

Claire: But neither of you actually did?

Allie: No, so the killer is still out there.

Claire: But, I mean, given who charlie was and what he did, it's not like there's a lack of suspects.

Allie: Yeah. It's just, which one did it?

Nicole: Ava, whatever happened that night, you can tell me. Did you kill charlie?

[Dramatic music]

Ava: Of course not.
